He is a very easy teacher. He's funny and tries to make everyone laugh and have a good time and not be so stressed over the material that he's covering. Take this one if possible. Highly recommended by me!!

DONT BUY THE BOOK. Test are 100% from class notes. The teacher is hilarious.

Do not buy the book. $90 and never used it. Tests are just like the practice tests! I had him MWF missed like 6 days total; did fine in the class (B) b/c of the practice tests. Come to go over them day before test! Oh, he really does make class answer the questions. That sucks. Easy overall!

Was an enteresting class. Take notes and study practice test and you should do fine. NO BOOK NEEDED!

You definitely do NOT need the BOOK! Waste of $90. He's goes slow enough so that everyone can keep up! He writes EVERYTHING on the board--don't know how he has ink left in the markers. Tests are just like practice tests. Lots of material on 2nd & 3rd test--they require more study time. Gives pop quizes on low attendence days.

Mrs Somppi's class was always fun to go to cause he tries to make you laugh. I feel you have to come to his class to understand the stuff. Macro is alot easier then micro. Don't buy the book it is a waste of money. If you do try to read it it will only confuse you.

Good teacher. Explains things in great detail. Makes it easy to understand, after a while. I'm going to take his Micro course in the spring. Lots of extra credit opportunities. DO NOT MISS CLASS. if you miss one class you will become way behind. He moves at a pretty good pace.

Somppi does not lecture. Instead, he sits on his desk and asks the class questions until he drags it out of you.Very laid back and tests come from the notes. I made an A on all the tests. He gives you a practice test a week before each test. You only have four grades, all tests. He makes a very boring subject interesting. He trys to get the whole class involved. All you do in this class is graph data and work kindergarden math problems. You wont use any material in this class. Great Guy.

He isa great teacher in teaching you things you actually need. However you must be there everyday and actually study to get any of it.

Great teacher. He Gives you reviews for the test but you do need to show up for class to learn the graphs. I made 2 high d's on test but the final was easy enough to pull a B.

He is a very nice and down to earth man. You can tell that he knows what he's talking about. He doesn't mind going back over things until people understand it better. I recommend him to anyone!

he knows economics extremely well and makes class interesting. His tests are extremely hard though. I couldn't make higher than C's on all of them. your only grades in the class are tests. the class is overly hard in my opinion, espcially for community college.

Somppi ROCKS! I took his Micro, Marco, and Statistics class and each class he makes the subject extremely interesting, although his tests are challenging. I completely recommend this teacher to anyone that doesn't have a clue about Economics. You can tell he is defiantly not a math teacher but he does a great job teaching statistics.

Covers all material in lecture, repetitively. Tests are based on lecture and on practice given. Overall a decent informative class.

he is an interesting teacher however his test questions are pretty confusing especially his multiple choice questions you have to know read them very carefully and study ALOT to do good overall he is a good teacher but he could make his tests a little less confusing and ask a straight up question instead of beating around the bush about it

Excellent teacher and is very clear on expectations. Each subject for tests is clearly explained, several times. He is very fair in his grading and is open to questions at every class. Save money and buy the international version of the book, it is exactly the same!!!

Mr. Somppi is a great teacher he is very clear about the material. however his test questions can seem a little tricky but do not overthink the questions. he gives you a study guide for every test and goes over ALL of the material. an A might be difficult to get but a B is easily achievable

I've taken Mr. Sompii for Microeconics, Macroeconomics, and Statistics. He is a great teacher, and is very willing to expain things until you understand. I just wish he would teach MORE classes!!!

I took Mr. Somppi for BUS. Statistics & highly recommend him! I had no interest in this class at first, but he loves teaching on this topic, you can tell, and that really made a difference in what I learned in class! He is very easy to talk to one on one, goes over homework in class, & is more than happy to help with Q's during his office hours.

I was dreading econ, but I passed micro with a B, then macro with an A. order the WSJ on the 1st day. the practice test is almost identical to the real test. it would behoove you to sit in class. TAKE SOMPPI. he does not leave lingering questions, and will help you in any way he can.

I have taken Somppi for Micro/Macro/Stats, he was the reason I became a Econ Major at AU. EXTREMELY RECOMMENDED!! He teaches with clarity and encourages discussion. LOVED SOMPII! Bring a jacket to class, write what he writes, and the tests will never consist of any more material than that. He gives a practice test that is much like his regular tests. Attendance isn't mandatory, but i highly recommend it! You will not get a good grade in this class if you do not attend. Take him for EC231 EC232 and Stats!

Goes fast doing charts on the board, hard to learn and copy as fast as he writes but he goes over the same material for days on end. Bores me to death but does make lots of real world references to keep you interested. Study those graphs, they are the majority of your test grades! Don't need book, all from notes.

Mr. Sompii was my favorite teacher at Southern Union! His tests are based on the notes we take in class, and he gives study guides that are very good in preparing you for his tests. Don't even bother buying the book, because you won't need it. He is very helpful if you have questions and is hilarious. Take him for Econ231 and 232 and even Stats!

He has kind of a dry sense of humor but he was one of my favorite teachers at SUSCC. Show up to class and take notes and study and you'll do fine. No homework so the only grades are tests. Sign up for the wall street journal when he tells you about it. I recommend him for both micro and macro.

very good in giving examples while teaching his students. i took his classes twice and A's both of them. best advices i can give you is to attend classes every day and take good notes to study for the test. its simple as that.

Economics is either something that comes easily to you or it isn't. Mr. Somppi is a wonderful teacher. He keeps the class engaged and gives real life examples. You will get a study guide before each test and he goes over it the day before the test. His tests make you think but if you did the study guide and took notes you'll be fine!

Good instructor. He explains economics in a common sense, easy to understand way. Expectations are clear. You will read A LOT. If you don't study you won't pass. If you do, no problem.

Here's the thing, you're either good at economics or you're not. If you're good at Econ then you'll pass the class no problem. If you aren't, memorize the study guide he gives you. His class is very easy if you pay attention in class and take notes. He always gives out practice test before the test that are very similar to his real test. He DOES NOT use the text book. He tries to keep the class engaged and is kinda funny.

I thought I was going to hate Economics, but Mr. Somppi made it fun and very easy to understand. I will be taking him again in the spring and the following fall. He gives study guides and explains the study guide the next time you meet. His test are not hard if you study your notes and the study guide. Do NOT be on your phone during lecture.

Mr. Somppi is one of the coolest guys. He's a real wisecrack with a dry sense of humor. His entire class is a lecture, and there is no assignments or homework. There are about 3 or 4 tests in the semester, but Mr. Somppi is good at explaining the material. Overall, I just really like the guy.

Highly recommend attending each class in order to comprehend his test. The test questions can be worded very difficultly.

Somppi is a great professor, probably the best I've taken at Southern Union. Had him for eco and bus 271. As long as you come to class, pay attention, and take notes, you will have no problem passing the class. He makes the material very clear and easy to understand, and the tests are always so similar to the notes. Highly recommend taking him.
