He's a cool teacher.
if you like class discussions, this is the class for u. He's easy in general, about 4-5 essays per quarter. He likes group discussions and has a lot of time on his hands.
A very nice and helpful teacher. If you go find him in his office hours he's more than willing to help. Very clear marking policies, and a lot of bonus chances (e.g. short report for an outside-class lecture).
hes a witty man and likes to have oral discussions. although he may go off topic, hes an easy teacher. always makes u do rough drafts before he gives u a FINAL essay grade. 4-5 essays that are pretty easy. lets ur turn in things online aswell
This class was boring and the Ken Weisner was unhelpful.
He is a great instuctor,he loves lit.and does alot of discussing about assigned topics. The only down side is there is alot of reading, but it is a lit class. there are a few papers to write however he is very liberal with due dates. I highly recomend him
I could tell he likes literature but he needs to teach it differently also he wan't to to write an essay like a middle school book report he did not help my writing skills at all
GREAT INSTRUCTOR, MUCH WORK, LEARN MUCH, HELPFUL, TALKS A LOT

Extremely easy class. Lots of group discussions, and easy reading. He's a pretty leniant guy, and easy to talk to. Class is kinda boring because he loves to talk. Also gives extra credit opportunities.
totally chilled dude. Nice and just loves literature. A bit too easy...
nice guy. he's more of a critical thinking teacher. lots of debates in his class. couple of papers and do your hw! they're worth alot. he's very picky about grading papers and expects everyone to be at a "college" level. so if you suck at wr
Great teacher! Lets you re-write papers. Fun class with interesting debates. Always do you hw and redo papers.
this class is soooooooooooooo damn boring and the teacher is also boring. He always makes dumb jokes and expects everyone to laugh. I do not recommend this class or the teacher unless ur hella into poetry & shakespeare. U'LL GET LOST
very helpful, let you redo essay to get better grade. Make you come to office hour and help you improve your essay and writing skill.
he kinda wanders around and loses the class. assigns homework in bunches and is unaware of it. lots of reading. sorta hard to understand, but he loves traching, I would only recogmend him if you want to take the class, not if you need the credits
He's the right man at right post! He teaches with energy and rhythm and there are lot of digressions. He's hot and his handouts and poetic! He's really helpful and comapssionate. Just wait for nobel prize >>
THICK BOOK, lots of reading for this class. mr weisner...nice person, passionate about literature, may get boring, only take this class if you're REALLLLY into literature/english major... or else take an easier class!
Pretty cool teacher .. he teaches with such enthustiasm , it helps a lot ^^.
mr. weisner is very passionate about his work and his students, as far as easy, not so much! you have to work very hard to get a good grade on your essays and there is a lot of reading. a lot of reading, he's a better teacher then most teachers are. i recommend him but good luck.
Mr. Weisner puts off a good first impression. He grabs your attention and makes you really like him, but he quickly changes. He is passionate about literature but he is a hard grader and there is a lot of reading and writing. Class discussions are boring.
Probably the most helpful teacher I've ever had. Bends over backwards to do anything you need him to do, and really wants to encourage his students to do the best they can, while still understanding when they've done all they can, and grading accordingly.
There was a lot of reading for this class. I did not enjoy the readings that he assigned. To pass his class you must be able to keep up with the work because extra credit is limited. His assignments were not interesting to me and there were many group activities. Take him if you like to read.
There is a lot of work in this class. Still, Mr. Weisner allows some rewriting of essays, and he gives lots of opportunities for extra-credit.His quizes are easy if you come prepared to class. He is a pleasant teacher, and the atmosphere in his classroom is relaxed.
Um. if you have seen the movie "Terms of Endearment" this guy is exactly like Jeff Daniels character.
there is a quiz every single class, 30 pages of reading a night, he never turns back any work, and the class is hella boring. i highly DONT recommend it.
He is a really bad teacher. He gave me a low grade on a paper because he did not agree with my opinion. He is extremely sloppy and unorganized. He also is unable to express himself clearly, he just blabs for 20 min and goes on so many tangents that you have no idea what he is saying. The man is a mess and I do not recomend this class!!
really great teacher.. made the class fun and interesting! allows freedom to write, yet imparts some structure along the way... really loved his class!
Thanks for so much dedication and a great experience
Very passionate instructor--he obviously loves what he's teaching.
His class was very helpful and the lessons were interesting. A lot of useful stuff you gonna get in his class. He helps you with any question you have. I enjoyed his EWRT 1 A and EWRT 2. Do your homework and attend the class, you should get A. If you really want to study English, he is the best.
I just happened to take a course under this professor, and am really fortunate to have done so. His love of the subject is infectious, as he not only takes joy in the material itself, but in helping his students to succeed with it. I recommend him completely.
He is really into the books that he teaches and tries to make the students interested in those books as well, but he also can be very single minded and a bit belittling. He is unforgiving in grading essays and getting 100 points on a 100 point essay is fairly impossible.
Genuinely passionate and knowledgeable about poetry and poetry writing. Very supportive of all creative efforts, but also capable of conveying, in his mild mannered way, where he sees areas of improvement. At times a bit disorganized, but otherwise a wonderful teacher.
Very good teacher. Always has something nice and constructive to say. Gives good encouragement. Also very laid-back, which I like.
He is the best professor you will encounter. He's very easy going and the class is fun.You will never feel let down and you will learn a lot of things together with poetry. He is a deep critic and his smiling nature is the best thing.I will recommend taking this class if you are really a poetry fan. He'll recognize your talent n constantly motivate u.
I wish I could ave taty in De Anza College and take the rest of my English Classes with you. you are the best English Professor that I have ever had.
Very laid-back teaching style. Almost too easy. Doesn't expect much from students in this class, people get away with not doing the homework on a daily basis. He's a great person and loves his subject.
Very enlightening class, learned a lot, enjoyable. Held my interest. Good balance betweeen teacher-directed and group/individual time. Good texts and logical flow of information building from beginning to end on foundation established in class. Teacher very compassionate and always prepared.
Cool class, . . . great teacher.
Ken is thoroughly a poet, from his wide, big-armed gestures to his delicate wordings when describing something. He's very smiley, encouraging, and enjoyable to be around. He definitely makes you feel like being in a better mood. He writes thorough, helpful comments, and you can tell he takes time on your paper. Highly recommended!
Poetry class? For non-native speaker? I decided to talk to a teacher. I’d never met Ken before, and my first thought was, “These are the eyes a poetry teacher should have.” He was very supportive and encouraging. He was objective and made clear and helpful comments. His criticism was very constructive and extremely polite. I’m really grateful...
Mr. Weisner is so much fun! He's really cool and extremely helpful if you email or visit him in his office hours. He can form strong bonds with his students in only a quarter, and you know you can talk about anything with him. Most of all, he's passionate about literature! Don't take his class if you want to slack off, though. It's hard work.
There are a few teachers out there that can make you want to learn. He does this well, he gets you excited about literature. He can go off on some crazy tangents from time to time and some people say he's long winded and boring, but if you enjoy intellectual converstaion about the stuff you read he is amazing. You won't regret taking his class.
Weisner is your typical poet. He's a dreamy intellectual. Weisner is also a doctor, and therefore has high standards. Homework assignments can require hard work; his grading can be tough; and he may shut you up if you talk to much. He normally ads something fun to class like a play in SF or an interview with a real poet. Lots of extra credit opps.
Ken, Ken, Ken... he's not that bad of a guy, but jeez... make absolutely sure you don't mention something that he'd like to "make a point" about, or you're going to be there a LONG time. He'll stare off with a distant look and just drone on about useless crap. That aside, however... he is a very constructive teacher with great criticism.
TAKE THIS CLASS!! I took 17 units this quarter, and this was by far the most rewarding, funnest class! It's a commitment, but you become friends with everyone on staff and it's so much fun. I looked forward to class every week. However, I gave Ken a 3 for clarity because we didn't have a schedule and class was very disorganized.
I am a very opinionated person and he wanted to dumb me down out of respect for the other students, which I understood very well, so I dealt with it. Lectures were fun, especially with guests from the New York Times and such, and the homework consisted of a packet. Tests were open book and you could make up tests out of the book.
amazing professor with such passion for what he does. class isn't easy but it's fun, especially if youre interested in poetry and if you have any questions hes not in the least intimidating. homework djs are time consuming and he grades pretty hard but hes such a great teacher and a nice guy.
Great teacher, I highly recommend taking his class !!
This was the EASIEST class I have ever taken. He give out so much extra credit for the most mundane things ( perfect attendance). There will be a poem recital, but he gives you the option of doing in front of the class, in front of him or an alt assignment. This is an easy A for anyone who knows anything about lit., history & poetry terms.
Hard and Boring
Nicest teacher I've encountered. He is very passionate about what he does, which helps engage you. Journal work is required, but only collects them twice in the quarter. Class discussions help interpretation of the text. Requires you to recite poem in front of the class, but never makes you feel incompetent if you make a mistake. Very fair.
Another one of those classes that if you do the work and show improvement, then you will do fine, and Mr. Weisner will help everyone as much as you need. He is very nice, but this causes him to lose control of the classroom some, or to stay on track. He is a published writer so he knows what he is talking about.
English 211, Professor is more concerned in publishing his book than teaching his class. Always late to class, never gives breaks and talks in circle about the same thing over and over. Also never returned feedback on essay for revisions so you could use to revise your paper besause he was always to busy to grade your papers.
Fun class to be involved in, helping to create a book of literature. Read, critique, and vote for various poetic, fiction, and non-fiction material submissions. I was pleasantly surprised with much of the work. The final includes helping to coordinate an event for the published writers with readings and food. Prizes are also involved.
Sign up! Weisner knows his subject and loves it. Great poetry and writing classes. He has a feel for literature, culture and above all, people. Warm, intelligent, compassionate, he allows for creativity because he is, after all, a poet. An easy "A", but if you attend class, work hard and participate, you can get an A+. Take Weisner! He's great!
Pretty cool teacher, I enjoyed taking his class. He's very understanding and considerate of his students.
Interesting and fun. loved it.
Took him for poetry writing, was a very fun and challenging class. He teaches you to think outside the box, analyzing poetry you would never think about. Love that he introduces new poems everyday, discusses our poems in class and in person, and love that he allows for creative writing you can share it in class or online. Take his poetry class!!!
Excellent intructor; however, he tends to lose control of class at times, and does not enforce constructive criticism. I heard students in the Student Edition labeling the poets who submitted and attacking character; instead of the positive and negatives of the poem or fiction itself. I felt this was very unprofessional and inconsiderate.
Weisner is an amazing poetry teacher!! I love the class discussions and the analysis. Pay close attention though or it'll hurt you on the tests; I definitely recommend this professor.
EWRT can get a bit challenging at times, but if you ask him for help during office hours, he's more than likely to give you input on your paper. In case you don't do so well on the paper, he also gives you an opportunity to rewrite and boost your grade. He's pretty friendly and is a very fair grader.
Awesome teacher ever! he is a must take!
Great friendly teacher. Assigned four books that we had to write essays on but books were short (he even assigned a comic book). Actually reads your essays and writes notes on advices and suggestions. Must take!
Great teacher. He has passion for what he teaches;even though, us, students sometimes ignore him. He is always passionate about helping students to learn. He understands when students get late to class because he knows we also got a separate life out of school... Best choice; take his class.
He's a nice guy, friendly and helpful. For this particular class the work itself isn't hard but you should dedicate the hours. The training isn't as helpful but he does provide time for discussion to ask questions.
Dr. Weisner is really an awesome person and smart teacher. Verrrry kind in person. Fair grader. He helps you so you can get the best grade possible and at the same time he also want you to learn. He is def. one of the best teacher at De Anza. Highly recommended.
Dr. Weisner is the best instructor at De Anza, I wish I had all my instructors like him.His class was fun, I learned a lot about critical thinking and writing. He is a fair grader. I highly recommend him.
This was the first time I've ever taken an online English course, so I didn't know what to expect. There was a lot to work to do each week, but each assignment is pretty easy. Granted, I am a native English speaker. Work is usually based on readings in the textbook. There were also 3 essays to do. He grades fairly and leaves helpful comments.
TOO HARD. he expects you to know and do everything perfectly like a writernovelist. you will hardly receive an A for trying hard. even if you do all of the homework correctly, he still mark things off if he doesn't like it. he is picking bones out of an egg. not recommended unless you are a professional writer.
One of the very best professors I have ever had. So passionate about his work and his students. Very organized and made each class interesting. Helpfully critical and kind at the same time. Above all inquisitive and thought provoking. A pro!
He is one of the most caring and insprirational English professor I have ever taken. For sure he is tough at grading, but you will definitely learn a lot from his feedback on your paper, and your writing skill will improve after taking class with him. Come to his workshop for every paper so that you can learn about writing as much as possible.
Decent amount of reading. Reasonable grader, super involved for an online instructor. Quick responder. He really cares about students. Three essays, 2-3 posts per week. very doable class. A is attainable if you put in some effort. Communication was frequent and very helpful. Glad to have taken him. Would recommend!
Ken Weisner is an great english teacher and poet. He gets the whole class engaged and it is one of the most rewarding classes you can take. As long as you come to class and do the homework, it is a very easy class to pass as well.
Taking the online EWRT 2 class right now... With less than two weeks left in the course, he has yet to grade the first two essays and over ten short assignments. He expects you to submit work on time but does not respond to e-mails or grade. He even offered an option to re-write papers #1 & #2 by the end of the quarter without giving us grades!?
Absolutely terrible. I took this class based off of so many positive reviews. It seemed like he was a very engaging and organized teacher but this quarter has been the complete opposite. Hasn't graded anything. Terrible with responding to emails. There are 3 major essays, about 3 weekly writing assignments. Assignments based out of book, boring.
He is very fiendly, encauraging, and inspiring teacher. I took this class without any motivation or pre knowledge of writing poetries, but the teacher inspierd me and now I only eager to write more and more poetries. He never will say to a student he did a bad works or mistakes. He always will work woth you that you will learn from your mistakes a
Ken Weisner is probably one of the best professors I have had in a very long time, and he probably ranks within my top 5-10. His amazing guidance, support and deep knowledge base of the material made this class experience no less than magical. I would recommend him to no end. He was very thoughtful and really cared about student's success.
This is the class for you if you don't care about the low grade you will receive from Weisner who requires many assignments but doesn't grade ANY of them for the entire quarter. After not returning any graded work, he gave us the option of submitting rewrites to raise our grades! You won't learn much about writing in this class. He ignores emails
Honestly the best professor I've had. So caring, so friendly, honestly such a great professor. There's no pressure when you're in class to participate, as long as you show up at least once a week to write and present you're solid. Such a good Professor. I'm taking him again.
Do not take for EWRT 2. He does not grade any of your essays or assignments until the last week of the quarter. He won't respond to emails. He is basically a ghost. You won't get any feedback or interaction, and then at the end of the quarter you just have a grade. Didn't learn anything. Wish I had taken Hearn. Heard she was better.
Want to transfer? Want to improve your writing? Then, do not take Weisner. Does not respond to emails. Does not grade papers. Will ruin your GPA. Will not help you. Sad.
Not very responsive. Just beware that Mr. Weisner takes a long time to respond (several weeks) and often does not respond at all. If you have questions about essays, you are left to your own to figure it out. Very little guidance on assignments and no feedback. Online students need teachers to be available.
A very generous professor. Really wants you to succeed and always has an open door to his office even after hours. Ken really loves helping his students and goes above and beyond.
Weisner's online EWRT 2 class and it was a great experience! Overall, the workload wasn't too bad - typically around 1000 to 1500 words per week. Essay feedback and grading were thorough and thoughtful. I saw a lot of improvement in my writing by the end of the quarter. The teacher is very caring and respectful towards students.
one of the best teachers i've ever had! please do yourself a favor and take one of his classes.
Ken Weisner is one of the best English professor one could ask for at a community college. While Weisner is not without his faults, he works with student on a personal level. He is one of those professors that is an "old soul" in his intellect of poetry and writing. He is a wonderful professor who clearly loves his job.
Pretty easy class, but really hard to get any help. Feels like you are teaching yourself. Expectations are unclear, so it's hard to figure out what he wants from you.
I LOVED this class, it was an amazing experience. It's extremely easy to get an A. Prof. Ken just wants you to do your best. Write 4-5 pieces of poetry/fictional writing per week. Reply to 3 ppl. If you like writing or just need a good boost in GPA. This is it. He's great at feedback but slow to grade. Which is okay bc there's a lot of material.
This is the most enjoyable online class I've ever taken. No textbook- he provides all the reading assignments online. Great poem and story prompts, terrific feedback and support from fellow classmates AND Dr. Weisner, and a totally manageable workload so you can focus on quality, not quantity. I'd take him again if I could. Really fantastic.
He was beyond patient with me during 1 of my roughest quarters thus far. He never gave up on me and constantly encouraged me to keep going. At the end of the quarter I had all but given up on myself but he's the reason I didnt. let me hand in late work and gave me amazing feedback that validated me as a student, person and writer. Forever grateful
I've never taken an online class before, and this professor made it easy. The readings were interesting and the essays had me engaged. He accepts late work but only for those who truly need it. Super caring for his students
Prof Weisner is in a word, kind. He cares about his students. Is engaging, encourages & gives chances. He does take a while to grade, but do the reading, participate, and you will get an A. Highly recommend.
Reading is typically homework with an essay on each. He is open to you expanding past the things the essay prompt tells you. He encourages creativity and has a good sense of humor. He cares about the students and is willing to help you out after class. He is not a huge fan of tech so be aware of that. Books are interesting.
Prof. Weisner is very kind, knowledgeable, and super passionate about teaching. Each student could sign up for TWO conferences to get his valuable feedback on paper assignments. Great teaching, interesting books, this class is simply wonderful beyond my expectation.
The majority of the quarter was spent writing poems. The final week weeks were spent writing short stories. He gave us 3-4 prompts a week; in order to earn full credit, you need to submit 2 pieces a week. The final is a portfolio consisting of 15-20 pages of our work from the quarter. He gives good feedback, kinda slow, but very detailed.
I had professor Weisner for all my english classes honestly ! He is a tough essay grader but he will give you one on one feed back ! It will really help you try better on your next essay ! I think he motivates people to pass ! He is pretty chill and so caring ! He wont let you fail !
Prof. Weisner is one of the best teachers I've had in a while! He is so sweet and cares about his students a lot. I had a very heavy quarter so I turned in some assignments late and he still gave me the opportunity to get credit! The book you read in class is now one of my favorites! Amazing teacher, highly recommend!
Ken is such a caring teacher. He leaves detailed and supportive feedback on every thing he grades, and he truly strives for his students to benefit from the material aside from just getting a grade. He's a quality over quantity guy for sure, and you'll go far in the class if you put your heart into your writing. One of the few genuine teachers.
This class was okay. Mr. Weisner cares for his students but is very boring during his lectures. I wanted to pass out everytime he talked. I love writing so this class is a easy A. Even if you suck at writing, this class is an easy A because he is a easy grader and will help you on stuff.
Ken Weisner is a very caring and good professor as he always shows good spirit/attitude in class. He always gives supportive feedbacks on essays to help you improve, and he also offers to help students at his office. In class, there will be some readings and discussions. He also wants students to participate and open up their confidence.
hate this guy. worst english professor and grades unnecessarily difficult on essays meanwhile giving no help or specific description on what he wants. its always do it his way or he docks off points. try not to take him
Lengthy discussion posts and assignments. Tough essay grader who asks for a lot but gives plenty of feedback (some of which I don't find very useful). Assignment instructions/criteria are unnecessarily long and it would've been better if he was more straightforward. Nice as a person but wouldn't recommend if you have a heavy quarter.
Very kind and caring, but I would avoid taking this class if you struggle with writing. 3 difficult essays with confusing criteria/rubric but he does offer one essay revision. Quizzes are based off the textbook, not difficult. Grades and gives feedback pretty late. The last essay is on a book you read which was pretty interesting.
Easy grader, pretty easy class if you can write well and can adapt to weisner's grading style. a lot of textbook use but you could honestly just google these poems instead of getting the textbook.
Mainly writing poems, switches to short stories halfway through. When he gives feedback it is usually specific, but it takes a long time for him to grade and give feedback. Sometimes he takes off points here and there with no explanation. But he does want us to improve and did check-ins with all of us. Also had us submit to Red Wheelbarrel. 5 Stars
This is a GE requirement and that would be the reason to take the class. I was not taught how to be a better writer. And, I would have gotten an easy A had I not dared to disagree with him. I thought my opinions would add to discourse. Write what he wants and you should do fine. Again, just keep this in mind. Otherwise, good professor.
Not the most clear when it comes to asking for help and tough when grading essays
I think because I particularly enjoy writing and english, this class was very fun for me. If you do all the work and the essays, you should do well in the class. Its not very hard. The quizzes were open note and were very easy, the discussions were super easy. Just participate and actually try and you get credit. On essays-show effort.
Though sometimes he may wildly misinterpret your poems Ken was an amazing teacher, made me regret not being an English major. I used the class as a way to practice writing poetry and it was really accessible no matter how you approach it. Expect to write a lot of replies tho.
Weisner has long in-class lectures and monologues that are mandatory, and if you miss more than two classes, then your grade is affected. Even though you would think that poetry would be an easy A since its only a general ed class, you definitely need to put some effort into the writing assignments he has since he is a harsh grader.
Weisner's lectures can be long, but engaging if you participate. Though a gen ed, the writing assignments need effort. For study prep, Unstuck study and the textbook proved helpful.
