Keep track of your own grade. Regardless of how much you study he will hold your attendance against you. If he tells you what you need on the final, its all BS so just shoot for an A anyways.
be prepared to take notes that would impress jesus. you'll have to memorize them to perform well on his essay exams. he will challenge you to write about history from both an academic and insightful point of view. lectures can be tedious. bring your java.
Take lots of notes! Basically for his tests you are better off just memorizing the whole book because sometimes he pulls some crazy questions out of no where. If you miss more than 2 days of class be prepared for it to count against you.
easy... and his lecture interesting. His exam straight forward..just study from his lecture..u will pass the class easy !!
Easy class, mostly lecture but the test are straight foward no BS. Just show up, listen, take notes and you can get a good grade. The only ones in this class that fail are those who sleep through it.
The entire sem. he assigned 1 assignment, 3 major tests, and maybe 8 quizes. Obviously there aren't very many points here so show up every day! Bring extra pens, plenty of paper, & eat your wheaties b4 coming to class cause he lectures the whole session.
Took for hist 101 and 102. I liked how he taught he made history interesting and more understandable. He seems cold but really is understanding and very helpful. Frequent visits pay off in the long run. Suggested teacher!!!
very monotone...
Attendance counts in this class. The grade you want form this class determines how difficult it is. C – Easy B – Takes work A – Takes a lot of work He lectures all the time but he hands out a list of key terms, which is very helpful for the multiple-c
He lectures the whole entire time and his voice is very monotone. He does give you a list of terms to follow during lecture which is nice, but attendence is important to your grade. TRY TO STAY AWAKE!
Mr. White is a wonderful man. He is a gives great lectures and his class is relatively easy if you do your part such as attending class, studying, etc. He is a really great person once you get to know him. He makes history interesting and is not monotone!!
this guy is so awesome.. he gives u a copy of all of his notes for every lecture and a copy of the tests.. really easy... always willing to help too.. nice guy
Does great at explaining facts and lectures are unbiased towards any/all politics.
He is great at making history interesting and he ties everything together making it easier to remember. He gives great studie guides for exams and w/ a little prep an A isn't difficult.
I fell asleep in every class.. he speaks in monotone and doesn't even try to make it fun.. i would recommend Newell for history.
He talks the whole time. It get boring. There in not much work to do though. Quizes are O.K. Majority of test is essay form. If you study, it be alright
Very knowledgeable teacher who makes history interesting. Not an easy A, but if you study you can do it. I got 1 of 6 As in a class of 100 or so students. A teacher for people interested in their education and excited about learning.
I don't know what everyone is talking about with the study guides and terms. We got none of that. My class was just on its own. For tests he gave us a general idea of what to study, but no details other than that.
I enjoyed his teaching style. The class was hard, but I learned alot. Pay attention to details for your essays.
Dr. White is great teacher. He helps you with anything you need help with, but all you do is listen to his lectures and then take quizes and tests... thats it! No videos, no extra activites, no worksheets. 3 tests, couple of quizes, and absolutly nothing else.If that's your style, take this class.
He is a good teacher but he grades essay's on test very difficult i got A's on all my quizzess and B's on my test and was really involved in his lectures but he still gave me a B and forever one thinking ur gonna get an easy A be prepared to have to work really hard.
Prof White conducts monotone lectures, but I did pretty good for not showing up half the time and relying on my own wit!
I am an A student and I got a C in the class. He does not read your bluebooks on the midterm and final. He skims through them. He lost 4 of my assignments and admits to it but says there is nothing he can do. Don't sign up for this class if you would like to keep your GPA up. He is very monotone
I really like Dr.White's classes! His grading set-up is so easy. He gives you the outlines to study for! Only 2 or 3 exams and a handful of quizzes. In 102, one essay only! He practically tells you what to study for. Communicate with him and he gives hints during class to which essay Q he'll pick! Show up, pay attention and this class is a breeze.
I've taken a few history courses and he is definitely the best. He's a professor every MJC student should take at some point. The lectures are much more interesting than you would expect. He's not as difficult as others have said--If you put in the effort for an "A" you will get one.
This is the first history class that I enjoyed. Dr. White is very straight-forward. His class is not easy (the essay ques. on exams are worth 175pts.), but he does give an outline about what you need to know. If you show up everyday and pay attention, an A is possible. Good Luck!!
he is great!!! i learned alot and he keeps u interested...hes the best History teacher at MJC!!!

great class...best history teacher ever had...easy class...never opened a book got a B
Class is ok but he's kinda boring. lol

White is sick. People say he's hard because he lectures, but thats the point of college. He is an awesome teacher, i have learned more history in half a semester than I did in all of high school. If your taking history 101/102, should for sure take it with White.
ok, this class was hard. there is no text, all lecture, few handouts. be prepared to take 5 pages of notes a day because that is what you will need to get all the vital info down. that being said, white is cool. he really knows his stuff, he lectures all from memory, dates names, details, and he will expect you to know all of them for the exam. he is not boring at all, he has a boring tone of voice, so when you first get their your gonna think you screwed up, but i learned alot from him, even if i got a C.
i thought that he was really cool and really fare
All lecture, but a good teacher. Very clear, not confusing at all. There are no surprises when it comes to the tests, everything is upfront. No research paper which is great.
Bring a pillow, omg this guy is soooooo boring. He grades too hard, and has his favorites. He also tends to laugh whenever someone asks a question.
Dr. White is a great teacher. He lectures as if he was there, within that time period watching the revolution, or WWI, or whatever he is talking about at that moment. Amazing teacher. He gives lectures as if it were a story. His test are easy b/c he gives an entire outline on what one should look at. Great class.
Dr. White is the best History instructor at MJC. His lecures are like story-time. He lectures completely from memory - dates and all. Very interesting. Great sense of humor. Doesn't trick you on exams. Gives you everything you need to know. I've learned more from in than any other history instructor. I HIGHLY recommend him.
This man is a genious! He lectures right off the top of his head and its like he's a living history book. He's truely a master at his profession. TAKE THIS CLASS ONLY IF YOU ARE WILLING TO CHALLENGE YOURSELF AND STUDY! If you dont study, your grade will reflect that. You recieve the grade you EARNED in this class!
I took both of his classes. History 102 was fine but you have to take tons of notes and if you don't know everything on the tests you won't do good. 101 was better and more clear as long as you study. The 102 I got a D and 101 I got a C..with studying. Other than that he is a pretty good teacher.
Took 5 week summer course; 3 hours long. People are right.. he DOES cite all info. off the top of his head. Its strangely amazing! Managed to get a 'B' even when I slept in class many, many, many times. Exams (3): Gives a study guide and its basically, all the stuff you've learned since the last exam. Fin. Exam: NOT cummulative! TIP: TAKE NOTES!
Great Teacher!
A really nice guy and qualified teacher but his teaching technique is hard. He lectures from his mind so it's hard to know what notes to take. Most of the time u try to write it all down. If u want to sleep in a class take his. His voice will either bore u to death or most likely make u sleep. A different history teacher would be easier! stay away
Old style lecture format, yes he does lecture from memory, never uses notes. Lectures are monotone and on the dry side. Little homework, tests are essay/terms format, material from lectures so TAKE NOTES.
AWESOME history teacher. He's Dr. White for a reason. Doesn't look at notes because he has everything memorized. He's a genius in history and ultimatley the most knowledgeable history teacher at MJC. Its entertainment to listen to him tell exact dates and events throughout history without a blink. Hes a walking history book. Great class!
White was my first college teacher I've had, and I found his class to be somewhat easy. He only grades on tests and quizes, No Homework!, and they usually consist of multiple choice/essay questions. I would recommend his 5 week summer class however because he's somewhat boring at times. Expect nothing less than a solid B in his class.
He is one of the few teachers still around that really cares about his students. He does everything but come to your house andd study with you to help you pass his class. He talks most of the class and you really have to take a lot of notes, but he will stop any time and answer your questions. I really enjoyed his class.
straight lecture formatted classes. not too many assignments but quizzes throughout the course along with 2 midterms and 1 final. I received an F on the first exam, but received A's/B's on the quizzes and B's on the second midterm and final and passed the class with a B. very helpful if needed. monotone but interesting. he's a walking history book
Dr. White is a great teacher, knows what he is talking about and seems to have a love of history. I would take his class again If I could.
He recites everything off the top his head. Amazing if you ask me. 2 Midterms and a final w/ quizzes in between. No homework nor projects everything on the test is solely from his lectures to text necessary don't wast your money. Grades on improvement so get an A on the final.
I was dreading this class, but I soon found myself looking forward to it. Prof White gives lecture handouts and lectures all the events from his memory. Don't even bother using the book. All the tests and quizzes are based on the lecture handouts. He grades fairly and rewards improvement. Attend all lectures to do well! Highly recommend.
I loved the format of this class. Professor White lectures as though he's telling a story, and even though we didn't make it as far in the material as he had outlined, it was super interesting. Tests are not multiple choice, but essay form, and he rewards improvement. Super interesting. Recommend highly.
Good Prof. My last history teacher said he was going to be a drag, but he teaches as if he is telling a story and i enjoy that and it made it easier. He doesn't have a whole bunch of assignments but if you follow his guides he gives you, you should be fine.
Class was very interesting made me rethink my major. You can tell he has a passion for history. Has been the best professor I've had in MJC so far.
Took him for late start class, very easy! 2 mini quizzes every week and 3 mid terms, no final. You also do one discussion board assignment. Very easy teacher! Wish he taught history 101 I would definitely take again.
Will never take another class from this professor again. While his syllabus is fairly clear, during the course he provided no help whatsoever and would not answer my questions. Ignored emails consistently.
Boring lectures but grades generously.
Easy class. I never read one single assignment and passed with ease. Do be careful on the tests though, they are long and he is VERY specific on the wording he wants from the book. There CAN BE two correct answers, but he wants the one that is worded the way the book does it.
Prof. White knows his history! He recites all lectures from memory, no book, only a couple overhead slides! Quizzes often, two papers, three exams. You really need to study the essay choices on the study guide because the essays are worth the most on each exam. The exams are multiple choice but the wording is a bit tricky. He doesn't use blackboard
Ugh. Smart? absolutely. Helpful? Not in the least. He WOULD respond to my emails but with vague, almost sarcastic answers. He tests you not to see what you've learned, but to see how much he can trick you. He will play with words to confuse you on a test. Studied my butt off for a B, as an A average student. Would never take again.
The book is your best friend. Quiz every week. class discussion every week (easy) and three exam mulitple choice and an essay. Easy grader. study guide stuff is not really on the quiz so read know your stuff and you will be good. I Got a C because I Did not put much effort on the test/quiz bad on my part but good professor
Ken White seems like a reasonable professor from the syllabus he gives you. I had an online class with him, and that was not the case. In the tests, he manipulates the wording so the entire question is insane. I had several other classes, like a normal student, and his hw assignments were so heavy. He never responds to emails, and its hard to learn
BUY THE BOOK. Ignore all study guides. Read one chapter ahead because he will quiz you on it even if he says he won't. Pre-write your essays from the questions he gives. Quizzes are on nit-picky details and sometimes don't have the correct answer available. Riddled with typos. Easy grader on discussions. Very retired teacher. No communication.
He is almost nonexistent in his online class, even when he states that he will be participating in the discussions. He is EXTREMELY vague in his instructions and even more vague on his "study" materials. He literally makes spelling and grammar errors consistently, even on significant historical figures. Why is he even a teacher?!
Syllabus is clear about expectations. Wording of the multiple choice questions on both exams and quizzes can be tricky, but as long as you have the book you'll be fine. The lecture notes he provides help with the essay portion on exams. The final was not cumulative. There were a few assignments I submitted late yet he was nice enough to give credit
This professor is really sweet and he's definitely worth taking. He discusses the topics in the lecture without even reading anything. He knows history like the back of his hand. I also like how mutual he is when he discusses the events in history. No favoritism. Answers questions efficiently. Studying is key in his class for passing quizzes too!
As online classes go, it was very easy. One discussion and quiz once a week, with 3 exams. The discussions are "lengthy" to some but the word count is necessary to answer the questions. The quizzes were easy, never opened the book or looked at his lecture material once. Two words, APUSH quizlets! One issue he did not explain grading on written work
This teacher gives you a list of keywords from each chapter of the book with questions for an essay. If you do it every week, it will help you in the quizzes. His discussions were about your point of view about some historical event. For me, the time he gave in each quiz was very little and I could not finish and that's why I got a low grade.
Easy online class. A discussion and test once a week, more exams. The tests were easy, if you read the material or watch his videos. The discussions had to be long, but if you answer his question, you easily comply with the number of words. Gives good feedback and he responded quickly to my questions.
This class is very passable, but he is kind of an annoying professor. He jumbles his quiz questions so you cannot find anything online. You can still find a majority of questions online but he times his quizzes and you only get one attempt. This is an easy class, but there are much easier online history professors at MJC.
Good professor, very clear with instruction and duue dtaes. Very test heavy class
Go ahead and skip his online class. Read these 8 essays about Abraham Lincoln, then write an essay about how you felt about the essays. After that write 2 responses to other student's essays. Every week you gotta do that. Would never take again, absolute waste of time. Everyone just writes messages that sound like notes from mommy in your lunchbox.
It's a ton of reading and a ton of discussion posts but it's doable if you fill out all of the study guides. Tests are open book.
During finals week suring the Covid-19 crisis, he made us write 6 possible essays, one of which would be used on the final exam. We had less than 6 days to write all these essays during all our other finals for other classes. We expressed how he felt, and he did not budge. He spoke a big talk of helping us anyway he could, but what he did was terri
Professor White is an outgoing person. In this course theres new lessons each week and discussions and quizzes that are due Saturdays and Mondays. Readings from the textbook counts because it helps for the quizzes and exams. If youre having trouble, he help you out in order to have a better understanding. He cares for his students to succeed.
Quizzes are based on very trivial facts and the correct answers are often very far-fetched, however, you are forced into selecting one answer. His communication is a bit lackluster in terms of both quality and speed. Getting an A in this class is a test like no other-as of the midway point of the course, the average grade in the class is a 76.9%.
Professor White's class was pretty easy. The assignment workload is very easy, as it is one discussion and one quiz week alongside the textbook reading. There are three exams. Professor White grades fairly if you put the effort in. One downside is that is it difficult to get your grade up with discussions, you must do well on the quizzes and exams.
This was a very hard class, I wish I would've looked here before taking. He is a very tough grader and while he does provide feedback after you turn in your homework there is very little clarification on what he wants in the assignment. Be prepared to spend hours reading for this class. The tests are meant to trick you
I would only take him if this was the last class offered. BE PREPARED TO READ. You will be expected to read an entire history book given the time frame of his class, along with module readings. There is no extra credit offered, and is two tests from multiple chapters due every week. You won't be able to search for outside information. Good luck
I took him for 101 years ago and got a B, but really enjoyed his lectures and grading style. Had 102 this summer and boy...all I did was read. Tests are weighted heavily so I made my own study guides. *Online book has searchable index :) and you will have a choice of essay questions--never just one. Be prepared to read is all I can say.
There will be a lot of reading in this class like any other history class. The professor is amazing he gives good feedback and also answers emails really fast. I really enjoyed this class it gave me a lot of good history information that i didn't even know.
I took his seven week class. It was mostly two quizzes and a discussion per week. We would have an exam every other week since it was a shorter class. I would recommend you watch the APUSH history videos if you are struggling with the lectures and the textbook. Most of his test questions were true or false.
Great professor and easy class. As long as you pay attention you will pass the class. Discussion posts with responses to classmates is a must or you will fail. The tests are easy and he responds to emails quickly, provides extra credit if you ask, and if you fall behind and do well in the class he will reopen posts and assignments. 10/10
I only say tough grader because in the exams, you have to write an essay and he wants long papers. He does give 4 possible essay questions in advance so you can prepare, test are timed. He will reply to discussions, I can't tell if he's being rude, nice, or petty. Do the work and you will be fine. History isn't my best subject and I passed!
For me, the professor is considerate with exam essay questions, because he gives sample questions and picks from them. But that means that if you want to pass well, you have to have written those essays and be ready to present any of them before the exam starts, as you may not have enough time within the exam. Be ready to write for good grades.
His class was very difficult to learn, and it was hard since I would get low scores on my discussion posts, but I would do well on the quizzes. He is a nice teacher, but he just grades tough. On the exams, there are multiple-choice and essay questions, and he'll give you two essay questions, but you only do one.
Quizzes were easy; but the thing was how I got lower scores on the discussion posts; definitely not recommend taking this professor
The exams are not fair. He makes you write a full essay and answer 50 multiple choice questions in 90 minutes. He gives 6 possible essay topics ahead of time but only chooses one on exam day, so you basically have to prepare 6 full essays or risk failing. This is the same for all 3 exams and final. Take this class at your own risk.
