Outstanding professor. Posesses a natural ability to understand the challenges his students face in and out of the classroom. Mr. Zontec goes the distance to ensure you leave his classroom with a solid understanding of the subject matter.
He was a really good teacher, and really clear on things. Interesting most days. Really nice guy!
I took the online version of the class and it was horrible. You didn't do anything interactive. You have to write four papers and take four tests. The test was over four chapters and there was no study guide. Needless to say I dropped the class and got a 30 on the first test. Not a good class for those of who can't do it ALL on our own.
Extremely knowledgeable. Very intelligent. Teaches the class very well. Gives good feedback. A lot of reading and homework though, but it does help. Recommended!
Great instructor. Fair and balanced politacally. Lot of work, but easy to get an A on.
Very good teacher. Pretty clear, but you must be in class to understand what he wants clearly. Very fair and knows what he is talking about. I would recommend him for a history class anyday.
great guy, Coursework is rigorous. Do dont take with other core classes. (math,english...)It will consume you. Not hard but intense.
Good, teacher, interesting class, and a hottie
Nice guy, gives a lot of readings and asks you to take notes on the readings, notes must be Britteny inside your book, then the next day he'll ask to open up to a specific page to see if you did the assignment. Very thick readings from the books. Extremely hard class and very time consuming.
professor ZonteK is great if you take the time to talk to him outside of class he will take the time to help you. Am history is hard but in 214 the reading isn't required which lightens the load- that is if you always show up to class
Overall, he's a pretty good teacher. This class was very interesting, unlike most history classes that I have taken in the past. And I personally learned a ton. Unfortunately, his grading system is strange and inconsistent. I feel that butt-kissing will get you much further with this teacher than actual quality work. Still, I'd recommend him.
Clas was TONS AND TONS AND TONS of reading. Tests are pretty straight forward but studying for them NEEDS to be done EARLY. I recommend answering the test question for each term as you go otherwise you will be overwhelmed and never remember everything for the tests. Good teacher, nice guy, can tell what hes really interested in. Passionate.
I took 3 classes from him and loved them all. PNWH was my favorite! He's a genuinely awesome guy and I'd highly recomment him for history! And yes, not bad on the eyes either. ;)
Mr. Zontek is one of the nicest men you will ever have the privilege of learning from. He is truly amazing, and very hot!!
Mr. Zontek is one of the nicest men you will ever have the privilege of learning from. I would highly recommend everyone taking one of his classes, you will be better for it:) He is truly amazing, and very hot!!
You have to read ALOT for this class. I'm talking about finishing about 400 pages of the textbook by the end of the 10 weeks. Very passionate towards what he teaches, and he tries to give both the conservative and liberal sides of history. Be prepared for hard finals and a few seminars, but overall a very satisfying class to take.
I really learned a lot from the class. He is a very good professor. Clear criteria and he is very enthusiastic about history. He is not to bad to look at!
Zontek is very helpful and easy to talk to. Ask questions if you don't understand something, he will help you until you get it.
He is incredibly clear from day one what he expects and wants. He gives you a syllabus with all the test and exam questions for the entire course. But to be able to handle the incredible amount he does give you, you have to study. He assigns some weeks between 100-200 pages of reading, which are pretty much necessary for it. You must annotate!
Professor Zontek is a very helpful teacher. I definitely would recommend him to anybody and everybody. There is weekly participation essays and every now and then a discussion, but they are not hard at all. If you have any questions he is very quick to respond.
Mr. Zontek was an awesome teacher, he was pretty funny and I learned a lot in this class. He dressed like a mailman, that was pretty great. 1010 would take a class with him again. He has a nice voice as well, he doesn't drone on and on. He tells some cool stories while he lectures too
Zontek is a great professor. If you show up everyday and follow the rubrics, you will pass.
Worst class ever. I took it online and you have to read 200+ pages a week from 3 different books and write an essay and contribute to a Canvas discussion. So much work with no shortcuts.
By far, one of my favorite teachers. I was never a big history fan, but he made it so interesting. I looked forward to class. The only thing about this class is that you have to be proactive. There are mandatory notes and annotations. He also says in class that the more he likes you, the better the grade you will most likely receive.
Personally, I would not take this professor again.
I took this course online. Lectures are longer than they need to be but must be watched to do the exams and pass the class. Helpful though if you ask
Mr. Zontek's assignments were simple in nature. But he is a harsh grader, biased, and at times inconsiderate, which makes him a difficult professor. If he only realized this, then perhaps so many students wouldn't be dropping his class.
If you have the chance to, take his class online. I took it in person, and all of the annotations the annotations he made us do killed the small remaining part of my spirit. He goes pretty fast during his lectures, and its hard to catch up if you fall behind. His tests expect a lot of memorization. But he's a great teacher and knows what he teaches
Waaayyyy to much homework, Like 4 hours a day of reading and you still get nowhere because the reading is usless for the class. His teaching method is really bad and outdated(annotations). He's lectures are vague and you don't know what he's talking about or where he is going. He focuses on the boring parts and not the important parts of history.
Worst teacher I ever had. I trusted the ratings and they let me down. I don't know how this guy got such a high rating. Nice guy, horrible teacher.
Fantastic teacher. Really explained things well and you could tell he was really passionate about history.
Zontek is the best instructor I have ever had. He will make you work for your grade but it will be worth it. You will learn a lot from his class if you take the time to participate.
Good teacher. Very passionate and tells you the answers to his mid term and final. Quite easy class if you attend class, take notes, and do the reading.
All you have to do in Zontek's class is try. If you do the readings and go to class you'll get an A. The readings were soul crushing, but it's only a 10 week class. He's a really cool guy who actually knows a lot about history.
One of the best history teachers I have ever had! Lots of reading & annotating. Overall I learned a lot from this class.
Coming from a student who loathes history classes take Zontek as a teacher if you can. He actually teaches with out forcing his views, so you get a balanced education. You have to read and annotate a lot but overall he made history class barable. If you can skim a txtbk the class is even easier. If you need help, he will sit down and explain it.
He is awesome! Be prepared to read and annotate. As long as you do that you'll be fine. He has tons of insight from personal experience and is enthusiastic about teaching. He even tells you what the final is and how to answer it from the begining of the class. I typically avoid history classes but took 2 from him and learned tons!
Loved the class even though there was a lot of reading. He made it easy for history challenged people like me to understand the material.
He requires a lot of reading (about 1,000 pages for the whole quarter). He has you do in-class 20 or 15 minute essays. The midterm and final are integral to your grade. Do not miss class; quickly take good notes! The workload is difficult, but if you do all of the reading and don't procrastinate, you can do it. He isn't a difficult grader, though.
Dr. Zontek is a really amazing professor. He assigns more homework than any other teacher I've had, but he cares so much you want to do it. As long as you don't procrastinate, you will be totally fine. His essay quizzes are very nerve racking, but very satisfying at the same time. I loved having Zontek and I look forward to having him again.
He's a sweetheart, great professor, I hated history but I loved it with him. Very handsome, I love the way he spoke. He is a kind professor, gave us the option whether we wanted to take the final exam or take the grade we had.
He has a very different and hard way of presenting material in class.
Ken zonteck is an amazing professor. He really wants you to do good in his class. His class is intense, heavy work load. But if you do the work you will be completely fine. His style of teaching is great and will help you with whatever you need.
Honestly, the greatest choice I ever made was taking this guy's class. Although it could be considered lecture heavy, Zontek is a great teacher that made my two hour night class feel like nothing. He'll talk about how there will be 5 nights, if you take his night class, where you'll 'have' sit through but it was a please to learn from him.
As a nursing student, I was not required to take history but rather chose to in order to satisfy my social science needs. I was told by the advising office not to take Dr. Zonteks class because it would apparently be too much work. I am so glad that I didnt listen. You will learn so much from Dr. Zontek! He has changed the way I view the world!
His a tough grader, doesnt matter if you put in alot of time. He expects you to know alot as he is a Dr. , but he needs to understand many taking his class are barely working on there first college degree. His assignments are time consuming reading a whole book and summarizing it in 2 paragraphs I wouldn't recommend this professor hard grader.
I loved Zontek. His class can be hard, but as long as you do the reading and take lecture notes, you can pass. The biggest thing is that his class is time consuming. If you're taking other difficult classes, save Zontek's class for later. But he's super smart, charismatic, and a great lecturer. I wish he was my dad.
Mr. Zontek class is hardest and the funniest one I've taken so far. He is clear with what he wants from you, you only need to do it. Is not hard, but it definitely takes time. He is a great guy always willing to answer questions. DON'T STAY BEHIND. READ THE BOOKS. He literally gives you the mid and final the first day. Just. do. your. part:).
Dr. Zontek was one of the best professors I've ever had. He makes it really easy to pass the class, but beware, if you don't read, do your annotations, and take notes in class, you won't do well. He gives around 1,000 pages to read for the quarter and gives you the mid-term and final on the first day of class so you know exactly what you're doing.
Everything able this class stressed me to the max! The homework amount can be ridiculous, depending on how you spread it out. But I dont like how the class is ONLY lectures. Maybe if he switched up his teaching style every once a while, things might not be so bad.
He talks a lot! But I guess its a good thing. His lectures contain lots of information so you have to come to class everyday. Theres a reading assignment from 3 books every few days so you never have a break of reading! That was the most difficult part. But Ken is an amazing guy and even though he gives us some heavy lifting, it was a fun class!
Get ready to read. Examples of everything and directions for literally everything are in the syllabus and he WILL reference it. You can definitely procrastinate in his class, just get ready to stay up because all his assignments are due at 10:30 am as opposed to 11:59 pm. He's a really nice guy and does everything he can to help you pass.
Best prof I have ever had, difficult class but he is the most passionate teacher I have had in my life. He makes you care and want to learn. His endless stories of the Peace Corps and military, life, etc make you love the guy. He quite honestly gave me a new outlook on life and particularly the history of the United States.
I have never been a big fan of History but taking this class was so rewarding and fun. I looked forward to his lectures. This course is very heavy, with lots of lectures, readings, essays, and discussions but you will truly learn so much. I really appreciated the fact that he would show us what our midterm and final would look like to prepare us.
Overall, Mr. Zontek was a good teacher, but his class is very difficult. You read about 100 pages of textbook per week, and have about 2 (maybe 3) hours of lectures per week (the lectures are from 2009 so it isn't easy to hear what he says). He does tell you exactly what is on the midterm and final, but there is a lot of course material to cover.
This class is very confusing. When using canvas he does not use assignments or modules to organize the syllabus (which happens to be 40 pages long) or any of week one's information. Instead he put everything in announcements which make it incredible difficult to find information and leads to wayyy too many announcements.
Zontek is a great professor, you really do learn a lot from his class. That being said, it is a very heavy course with lots of reading, discussions, and essays. I wouldn't reccommend this class to those that are not very interested in history. He provides the midterm and final questions at the beginning of the quarter which I really liked.
This class was way too much work. We had to write two 500 word essays a week, each based on about 100 pages of reading... Over 200 pages of reading a WEEK. Online he doesn't make you annotate, but he does in person. Hated this class with a flaming passion. DO NOT TAKE.
This is the hardest class I've taken here. It's a lot of reading, it's a lot of work, and it's just a lot of pain. I've had family members take him in person, they loved him, and in his lectures, he seems like a cool guy. But I really didn't enjoy his online course. His grading criteria is misleading and you can lose a lot of points really easily.
I like learning about history. But the reading and assignments were too much with little time to complete them. I feel like I learned nothing.
As a 16 year old doing running start at YVCC who loves history, this was both the most rewarding and difficult class I have ever taken. Zontek gives tons of reading and papers to write, but IT IS ALL DOABLE. There is not a single time where I felt the class was impossible. I've learned more than I have up to now and am happy I took his class
It was a difficult class as there was so much reading to do , youll have the mid term and final test questions and will need to work on finding answers through your reading. The lectures are very long and needed lots of time. Its not impossible and if you spend lots of time on lectures and note taking.
Anyone who said this class is amazing is the biggest liar I've ever met. It's not that he assigns a lot of work, but it's the midterm and the final that kill you. For each, you are expected to memorize 60 ID terms which is more like 80 because some of those "terms" can have up to 5 subject. The class is very lecture heavy and over not worth it.
Lots of reading and essays, and online videos are old (2008-ish). Gave me good grades, think his bark is worse than his bite. For everything I turned in, he will give a lot of feedback (positive and negative, mostly negative) but solid grades. I did my best work in his class. Very knowledgable. but low-quality lectures killed it for me.
He's a pretty good professor but there's a whole lot of work. It's not exactly hard, it's just a lot. Also, watch the lectures and prepare notes ahead of time.
Professor Zontek will challenge you and help you grow as a student! This class is centered around 2 main textbooks with a lot of reading include. There are serval discussions that aren't too bad. You learn so much in this class its very useful especially if you're going to be a teacher. Do not take this class if you can't handle 100+ pg a week.
two textbooks required that you will have to read but his assignments are clear and doable. two exams total with minor but equally important participation essays (around 8) and annotations. 60 terms go with each exam (60 midterm and 60 final), as long as you interact with the material and pay attention you CAN get an A. overall amazing teacher
Everyone that has said anything bad about this teacher does not do their work. He is the most caring and amazing teacher at YVC. Honestly, such an amazing human being in general. He is not a tough grader and he has everything laid out for you on the first day of class. He tells you what he expects of you and knows you can achieve it. TAKE ZONTEK.
I accidentally signed up for the wrong history but decided to stick with it. It is a lot of work, but you just have too make sure you are on top of it. He gives the study guide for both the final and midterm at the beginning is also very understanding. Would take his class again.
He was a great professor! Honestly one of my favorite professors, you just have to do your work and work hard. He is very understanding and is there whenever you need help.
Instructor Zontek has been one of my favorite instructors! I took his class in the spring and really enjoyed his lessons, they were incredibly informational. Though he assigns many assignments, he is always available and can be flexible.
You have to read two textbooks, he gives you which pages to read for that week. The lectures were very informational and detailed. I had to sign up for the more difficult US History class but his teaching made it very easy.
One of the best history professor experiences I've had. There is a lot of reading and annotations. A lot of assignments but manageable. Grading is simple, its hard to fail the class.
Zontek was the best teacher I've ever had. Everyone gave him bad ratings I had hope and stuck through with taking the class. One of the most easiest classes to take as long as you attend and he's funny too! One of the nicest most sincere history teachers on earth probably. We love you Zontek
Running Start Students: Take Professor Zontek's US History Class! No matter what rumors you may have heard (many of them misguided), Professor Zontek is an excellent instructor. The HIST&137 course provides students with a varied understanding of US History through the lens of historiography. Zontek is passionate about history and it shows.
I absolutely loved being in Professor Zontek's PNW History Class. I wish I was still going to YVC so I can take more of his history classes. Fenomenal Professor.
He was very clear on due dates and explained how to do each assignment well. He also gave lots of preparation for the midterm and final exams. I would take a class with him again!
Honestly I'm not going to lie this class is one of the hardest classes I've taken. I had tried taking it with 2 other full time classes but that ultimately did not work out and i had to withdraw. I had then taken his online course in the summer and I would say it was somewhat easier to do.
Honestly despite the criticisms, this wasn't too hard of a course! You have to read a lot and write about 1-2 papers a week, but they're only 500 words. As long as you get your work in on time, you'll be okay. He isn't a tough grader by any means. You only have a midterm and a final.
Very heavy workload, but not impossible. Isn't too tough of a grader, lenient on the final. Expect hours of reading. Passionate about history and you can tell he knows what he's talking about. Would definitely recommend zontek, especially if you're a running start student. Very skibidi
If you don't like him, you're probably just lazy. There is a lot of assignments but they're not hard if you actually read the book. Mid term and final are not hard at all. As long as you're willing to put in the effort you'll easily pass.
Zontek's class was amazing! I'm not a big history person, but he made things interesting. He was upfront about all of the expectations from the beginning, so no surprises! And he gives the big tests far in advance, giving you lots of time to study and prepare. Great class, I recommend it to anyone who needs to take history anyway!
Don't take this class unless you absolutely have to. Very work heavy
Overall great class! Not a big history person, but the environment history class he teaches is extremely informative and genuinely interesting. Heavy on papers and essay work but completely manageable. He's a straight forward grader and fair. As long as you stay up to pace with the readings and essays their is no reason you can't perform well.
I honestly really liked Zontek. The only problems I had was that there is a lot of reading and a lot of essays that you had to do. There were at least 2 essays due every week. Other than that and the reading I really enjoyed going to his class. He had great lectures and he communicated with students really well. I would take this class again.
this is the hardest and worst class i have ever taken. he is a very tough grader and would blow up my inbox whenever he was grading, though i feel like there wasn't any valuable feedback. assignments were due at noon almost daily. midterm and final were the most stressful assignments of my life. if you want to keep your peace do NOT TAKE THIS CLASS
Mr. Zontek as a person is great, he's sympathetic, understanding and funny. As a teacher, he goes deep into the lecture and expects you to memorize everything for the mid-term and final. He won't sugar coat things for you, you have the mid term and final at the beginning of the semester. ALOTTT of reading (3 different books.) Grading isn't tuff.
