Very good instructor. Notes were problems out of the book so you could never get stumped on the hw. Definitely recommend her for pre-calc if she teaches it again.
She went way to fast for any student to comprehend. Our class asked her to slow it down and she said she would like to but she cannot. She knows what she is talking about but assumes we all do to and she is oblivious of that fact. I would not recomend having her as a precalc teacher if you struggle any bit at math.
Ms. Maurer was excellent, hands down. There were a ton of notes, and she writes fast, but there's a ton of material to cover. She shows genuine concern for her students, and was very accessible via review sessions and office hours. Homework wasn't too heavy or too light, and tests reflected the notes and homework. I would gladly take her again.
Great teacher, would love to have her for calc but I am taking calc with business and unfortunately she doesn't teach it. Lots of notes, her notes are perfect for helping you get through the homework though, therefore you have no problem with the homework. Excellent teacher!
Excellent teacher. She goes over everything thoroughly and goes quickly, but makes sure everyone understands
Pleasure to work with.
Very nice teacher. Teaches extremely fast however. Some stuff can be hard to understand because of the fast place of the class. Lots of notes. Very helpful if you ask her.
Class started off really fast and I thought about dropping it. I stuck with it and got an A. Great teacher and a merciful grader. I'm terrible at math so if I could do it so can you. Assigns a lot of homework but practice makes perfect.
She teaches at a very fast pass but is willing to answer questions and will explain questions very well. i would recomend her for anyone who has to take pre-calc.
Awesome teacher. She is always willing to help. Quiz every week was very straight forward. Assigns a lot of homework but thats how you learn the material. Overall she was a great teacher and the quizes/tests were easy as long as you put effort in.
Very fast but this is more due to the amount of material there is and she covers every facet of the problems so everything is very clear on the tests and quizes. A lot of homework but it's graded so it's easy points. Is very willing to help students outside of class.
Ms. Maurer is an excellent teacher that cares about her students. After one day she knew every students name in the class of about 20. She is very willing to help and all homework and quizzes are seen on tests. Only issue is that she flies through notes and you can only get them in class. However, if you have a question she's always willing to help
The best teacher I have had at the university. Willing to spend time with you outside of class. Responds fast to emails with a helpful manner. Pre calc is a hard class with anyone, but she will spend time to help you understand the material.
Ms. Maurer has been great so far. She makes it so that you understand, but writes a lot! Her exams are literally the same as the quiz problems except changes the numbers around. Would def take her again.
She is an amazing person. One of the best math teachers I've ever had. She flies through notes but her test have problems that are exactly like the ones on the homework and quizzes, just the numbers are changed. She is very willing to help you outside of class too. I recommend taking her.
Great teacher. Teaches very fast, but is willing to help you and responds quick to emails. Tests were the same as the quizzes.
Very Nice Professor that CARES about her students. One of the better Math Teachers (Had her for Calc 1). She is always willing to help and goes out of her way for the students. Gives alot of work though. Overall, just study the quizzes for the exams and you should get an A. Overall Highly Recommend her
Had her for Calc II. She teaches too fast for any student to comprehend. If you have her in class, expect to teach yourself the material. She is helpful though if you have any questions. Definitely not the worst teacher, but far from the best.
Great teacher.
Had her for discrete math. Super easy class, but I've already taken calc 2. She makes everything super easy to understand and really cares about her students. The homework is long and takes forever but if you do them the quizzes and tests are super easy. Has review sessions for exams. You can only get notes in class. She writes a LOT.
Ms. Maurer is a great teacher. She truly cares about the success of her students. She knew everyone's name in a class of 40+ in the first 2 or 3 days. She's always available for questions by office hours or email 247. Yes there's a lot of homework but if you do it you'll get 100 every week on the quiz. Exam problems are exactly like quiz problems.
I had her for discrete math and I'd say she is a pretty good teacher. She does write A TON but gives soo many examples its hard to not understand what is going on. When you get into proofs it gets tough, but pay attention to the problems on the quiz cause theyre exactly like the test, and all three tests combined the final. (Same EXACT questions)
I was never able to follow her lectures; I had to look over her notes + textbook + Khan Academy to teach myself the material. VERY wordy notes. (4-5 pages a day). Class starts early and runs late. Very helpful during office hours; she always replies to emails quickly. Tests are clear and easy if you've mastered the homework. Lots of homework.
She's pretty odd. Smiled maybe once. Not friendly, but not because she is rude. My advice would be to do all the homework, go to office hours, and study the quizzes for the tests. I would estimate maybe half of the test questions were exactly the same as the quiz questions. I got an A, but this was by far my heaviest class. Too much homework.
SO MUCH HOMEWORK. The week after Thanksgiving she gave us 97 problems. Way too many the week before finals. Also, be prepared to teach yourself everything. Lectures do not help. Pretty easy quizzes and tests. No tricks. Kind of a strange lady, but if you review your "notes" ( her word for her scribbles), homework and quizzes, you should get an A.
Great professor!!! She is so clear about the material and is very fair and reasonable about extensions for assignments. I love her teaching style. She made discrete math as easy to understand as possible. By far the best math teacher I've had so far.
Maurer is a great teacher. She uses the entirety of every class, but this is common for math teachers. She gives lots of examples so you know what to expect on every exam. There is always homework, and while it is quite a bit, it is relevant to what will be on exams and she grades certain problems on the assignments. she makes it easy to succeed.
She is so detailed it was the greatest instructor experience I had at UAkron.
Great teacher. Old-fashioned teaching style. Easy papers, but she makes sure you learn from the copious amounts of homework.
Really great. Her lectures can be long, but they are filled with many examples that prepare you and more for the upcoming tests and quizzes. Would take again.
A fine professor for Discrete Math. She writes everything on the board and assigns a lot of homework which is taken for a grade. Her tests aren't too bad. Take notes, do homework, and pay attention.
BEST MATH PROFESSOR ON CAMPUS. Worked so hard, pulled an A-! Went to office hours 2-3 times a week, so very helpful. Very talkative and friendly, and very smart. Literally sent problems to her at 11pm via email and she'd respond in 15 minutes, very helpful. Cs major here, hope to get her for calc 1 and 2! Seriously, change ur schedule to get her!!
She is the best math professor that I have ever had. She was very helpful and answered questions via email as late as 2 am. She never got frustrated at any question and gave TONS of fair examples for tests and homework. She was all about answering questions as efficiently as possible. I have her for calc II. Just don't be afraid to work hard!
Very formal teaching style. I loved how she presented her lectures, but her specific style didn't work for me at all. Assigned way too much homework. Very helpful professor but she's not easy. If you have questions, ask her! She cares a lot about her students!
Ms. Maurer is an excellent math professor, but there will be A LOT of work . I spent at least 10 hours per week on homework (roughly 800 problems assigned, not including review sheets for tests). Quizzes and tests were straightforward if you did the homework. Homework wasn't always collected and only select problems were graded when it was.
Maurer is probably the best math professor on campus. She gives a lot of homework but it's only because she wants you to understand the material. Tests were very easy, and a lot like the homework. She is very nice and easy to reach outside of class. Even if you email her at two in the morning she will respond within the hour. GREAT professor.
Pros: Lots of material. Easy to reach. Attentive. She really cares about her students and will always be willing to help you. Easy exams and quizzes. I feel like she es too intelligent to teach this stuff. Cons: Boring. monotonous classes. Lots of HW. Extremely fast lecture pace, if you don't work on your HW you won't ever pass a single quizz.
Dr. Maurer is the best math teacher or professor I've ever had. There is a lot of homework, but her lectures are exactly what every student has always wanted from a math teacher, lots of examples and less time on proofs. She will make sure you know how to do what you need to do. She is rather dry but I'll take that over a clown that can't teach.
Her hair is down to the floor, and she talks into the chalkboard all lecture. She over complicates easy material and then takes complex material easily. She's a really boring and bad professor. DO NOT SCHEDULE!
She is a good professor. She knows her stuff and majority of the time is able to further explain something if you do not understand it the first time. The lecture is a chalkboard full of notes, quiz every Friday, and homework is sometimes collected. Quizzes and tests are straightforward and look similar to, if not exact, homework problems.
I had Dr. Maurer for Calc 2. Her class has lots of homework but it prepares you well for the quizzes/exams and it helps your grade a bit. Her lectures are example heavy and she's VERY easy to reach outside of class, responds to emails very promptly and encourages office hours. I'm certain I would have gotten a better grade had I slacked on the HW.
Although she is very knowledgeable, i am assigned on average between 45-75 questions per week (this includes exam weeks). Gives many opportunities to see her at office hours but who wants to do that? Explains the easy stuff too detailed, and the hard stuff to quickly. Moves fast, be prepared to study.
She's very good and although it's kind of crazy how many notes I took and how much homework I did (a lot wasn't even graded) she knows the material and I really learned a lot from her class. I recommend her.
She's a solid teacher. She takes a LOT of notes, so be ready to buy a large notebook and not one of those small ones. Your hand will ache, but your brain will grow. Tough classes but teaches you study habits. Also, go to her office hours! I didn't do it much but when I did she really helped a lot. YOU MUST STUDY.
She gives anywhere from 50-75 homework problems a week and will only grade 2 problems if she collects the homework. There are quizzes every friday even if there is a test. She is a very tough grader. She writes really fast on the board so try to keep up. Calc 2 with her is very time consuming, kiss your weekends goodbye.
She's a great teacher for math. Quizzes every Thursday and then there are exams. Lots of homework, be sure you have time in the day to complete multiple assignments.
Literally the worst experience I've ever had with a teacher, do not take her for calc 2 unless you want 6 hours a day of homework only to fail the tests and be graded 75% on your homeworks because the one problem she decided to check you slightly messed up on. Very difficult class, and unprepared for the final.
This was my second time taking calc 1 and I honestly wish I had taken it with her the first. She is extremely clear on what you need to know for quizzes, gives plenty of examples that help you understand lecture notes while studying, and very accessible. It is definitely not the easiest course ever, but she helps you genuinely learn material.
Ms. Maurer has a very bland personality. You can expect 2 to 3 pages (front and back) of notes per class. She often times will spend the entire class giving notes but never takes a second to explain them or let you process the notes. Homework is usually close to 40 or 50 problems per assignment and you get about a week. 3 Tests, 6+ Quizzes, 10+ HW
Shes not the most interesting professor, but shes still very kind and would answer any question very well. I had some personal issues during the semester and my attendance dropped as a result, and she had noticed and emailed me to ask if I was okay. She was incredibly understanding and allowed me to turn in the homework Id missed late.
Professor Maurer is a very good math professor, she knows what she is talking about and teaches it very well. She is very caring about everyone and wants everyone to do their best. It is definitely time consuming because she gives a lot of work and goes very fast, but it is worth it. She is very monotone and her classes can get boring sometimes.
She is such an amazing teacher. If you attend class, take notes, and complete the homework, you will understand everything in the class. Her tests are also a complete reflection of everything you do in the homework and makes the tests very easy to study. She also will offer bonus points on some quizzes and tests. She does give lots of homework.
Ms. Maurer was my favorite professor this semester. The curriculum she gave us was detailed but also comprehendable at the same time. Honestly, one of the best math professors at Akron. Would 10/10 recommend taking her for a math course.
I had Prof. Maurer for Calculus 2 during Coronacation. She is very homework heavy and it is hard to stay on top of it. She is very caring and really wants to help you pass but it is up to you to ask for help. The tests and quizzes were not too bad. Shout out to her for helping me pass Calc 2 on the third try!
Professor Maurer is very knowledgeable about the material and she will make sure you know what you need to know, but good lord does she assign a lot of homework. Dont take that lightly, expect several hours a week. Lectures are also very fast-paced and often hard to keep up with. But if you do the homework, the tests and quizzes arent too hard.
Very good at teaching calc 2. Lots of homework, but you need it to pass and be prepared for calc down the road. She responds to emails very fast, and is very thorough in her explanations. Will never put you down for not knowing how to solve a problem if you bring it to her. Good office hours. Very good and gracious when covid happened.
She made calculus 2 easy as long as you did the homework the exams felt simple. If you didn't understand anything she walked through the concepts. Though I may not have understood a lot of the homework sometimes, she offered a lot of open office hours to help students understand concepts crucial to calculus. She never left a question unanswered.
One of the best professors I've had. There is a lot of homework assigned but it is very similar to quizzes and tests. She is always available to help you and really wants her students to succeed. Also, very kind and knowledgeable. I would definitely recommend taking her class.
Ms. Maurer was an absolute pleasure to have as a professor. She explains everything you need to know in her lectures and none of the problems come as a surprise on homeworks, quizzes, or tests. Her lectures are thorough and full of examples, which does make them lengthy sometimes, but that's a small price to pay for understanding the topic fully.
I had Dr. Maurer for Clac 1 and Calc 2 and I recieved A's in both and I still understand the material (which never happens). Her lectures are very fast and hard to comprehend but as long as you write down the notes, as she writes them on the board, they will make sense as you use them for the homework. She assigns so much hw so start it early.
She is extremely homework heavy and there were quizzes once a week on Fridays. I would have 80 question hw assignments and would be up all night doing them. But she is a good professor and I did learn a lot from her lectures. She is very kind and is easy to get a hold of outside of the classroom and reaches out to students just to check up on you.
Professor Maurer is a wonderful teacher. She really cares about her students and wants you to understand the material. One homework a week with a quiz every Friday. BEWARE: the homework has SO MANY problems (60) and you should expect to work on it for AT LEAST 10 hours each week. If you struggle with time management, I would suggest another prof.
She's an amazing teacher and explains things extremely well. If you do the work, you will pass the class. Even if you see yourself falling behind, she can help get you back on track. You can tell she really cares about her students and wants everyone to succeed.
You'll write between 20 and 30 pages for homework every week, but it's worth it. I took this course 10 years ago at another university and didn't learn half as much as I learned in her class.
Ms. Maurer was a very nice and caring professor but the class was pretty hard. There is a lot of content that she expects you to memorize for quizzes and tests which are monitored. She was always kind reaching out to me and is very quick at responding to emails. There were only 3 times all semester we did zoom (optional), the rest is asynchronous.
Lots of homework but it makes you better at Calculus and prepares you for the final, tests, and quizzes. You will not only understand the process to solve the problem but the why behind certain things.
There is a lot of homework in this class. Although, as long as you have an understanding of the material, the homework is not difficult. Since her notes are hand written, they are sometimes difficult to read Professor Maurer's strongest point is that no matter what time of the day or night, she always seems to respond to emails in a timely manner.
I had Professor Maurer for Calc 1 and 2. She is the best! Assigns a lot of hw, but it really does help you learn the material. She has weekly quizzes (3-4 questions each), and as long as you did the hw you will do fine on the quizzes. You get bonus points on the quizzes if you do well. Very easy to reach, and she really cares about her students.
Super nice professor who cares about each and every student. I must say though, be prepared to spend a stupid amount of time on homework each week. If you are someone looking to breeze through a math class this is not the professor. Treat her courses like they worth 6 credit hours when scheduling because the workload is unreal.
I loved this teacher, she delivers material well and if you do not understand something you can easily contact her about something and she will help. Beware, there is a lot of homework, so if you are willing to invest the time in that you will 100% be set for an A. The tests and quizzes resemble the homework she gives out. Best calc2 teacher so far
Ms. Maurer genuinely cares about her students and their success. If you do well on a test or quiz, she will email you and congratulate you and on the contrary if you miss turning in an assignment or haven't started the lecture materials, she will ask how you are doing. Be prepared to spend lots of time on her class, but its worth it!
LOTS of homework but helps you learn content well. Took in Spring 21. Quiz every Friday, HW and quizzes prepared well for exams. Could email her at 3AM and she would respond. Very caring and very willing to help. Extremely knowledgeable and wants students to succeed.
This is one of the worst courses I have ever taken. There was about 50-70+ long homework problems a week, and she would only grade like one or two. There is so much to do that it is difficult to learn instead of just getting work done. It seems like this class was not made with students in mind.
Ms. Maurer is an amazing professor. Yes, there is a lot of homework. However, the hw is so well designed and gives you enough practice that if you do it, you will really know this material. She is SO easy to reach as well and responds to emails quicker than any other prof ive had. And, the tests/quizzes are SO easy after doing the hw.
I was hesitant to take an online math course. However, this class was awesome, and it was structured very well. Yes, the homework is long, but by the time you're done, you'll never find a question on a quiz or test that you don't know. Also, Ms. Maurer will email you no matter what time of day. She is very understanding and wants you to succeed.
A ridiculous amount of homework. Literally 10 hours a week on homework alone. She's very kind and accommodating, but you will be so busy with the homework that it's barely possible to even watch the lectures. It's a very difficult and time consuming course, but if you have the time and mental capability to be always working, maybe.
LISTEN TO THIS REVIEW! She is super nice, and she is very helpful, but this class is so time-consuming it's crazy! She assigns at least 40 problems a week along with a quiz every week. And you already know them calc2 problems take a lot of work. She's also a tough grader too! She thinks we don't get any other classes' homework to worry about.
This professor is very caring and responsive. Her lectures are very clear and easy to follow. When you ask her a question, her explanations are articulate and helpful. If watch the lectures, take good notes, do your homework (Not last minute cramming, but take your time with it), then you are very likely to do well in this class! Good Luck!
Ms. Maurer seems to be under the impression that her students don't have other homework, and she assigns a ton. I fell behind in other classes trying to keep up. Tons of homework problems and quizzes or tests pretty much almost every week, encompassing a lot of material very quickly. So overwhelming. Also, she thinks the end of the week is Friday.
I focused a lot of my time on Calc II with Professor Maurer, so much that the rest of my classes that semester suffered. I still struggled, it seems with the way the course is structured to put students through pain to pass despite her wants for the students to succeed. Roughly 12 video lectures that vary in time with 60+ homework questions a week.
Calc II is unfortunately a class with a ton of memorization, so it makes sense that every week there would be a ~70 question assignment and a quiz. Has great lectures and hwk / quizzes help a lot for exams. I would not recommend taking this prof. if you have more than 12 credit hours, but if you can take it, you will learn the material well.
Ms. Maurer is a super kind professor and answered my emails at literally any time of the day (always in a timely manner too). However the really tough part of this class was the HW load. I spent double (felt like triple) the amount of time on this class compared to any others this semester. Be prepared. You have been warned.
If you take this online, be prepared to watch hundreds of lecture videos and dedicate several hours a day to the homework. Although she is very kind, understanding, and fair with due dates and other commitments, I think she forgets that students are taking other equally demanding classes. Good professor, horrible class. Do not fall behind.
This was one of the more challenging classes I've taken. If you dislike proofs, then good luck. She is a very nice person and will always be there if you need help. However, the amount of material we were expected to learn and memorize verbatim was absurd. Overall, though, she is a really nice person but an extremely strict professor.
hate her never take this class
Ms. Maurer is a kind professor who will get back to your emails in incredibly low amounts of time, however that is about where the good ends. She is extremely lecture heavy and even heavier on the homework. For reference, I put about the same amount of time into this class as I do all other classes combined. Would not recommend.
She was my favorite professor during my fall semester. She was always willing to help and gave more time if needed.
Prof. Maurer is a fantastic teacher, caring, and super flexible. She had good office hours (early and late) and made calc 2 as close to a breeze as humanly possible. 10/10. Except for ONE thing: HW. I am not exaggerating when I say you will be spending between 20-35 hours a week on assignments. This is a 7 credit hour class. You have been warned.
be ready to spend 5 hours doing homework every week and 3 hours watching lectures every week. The amount of homework given is insane. She thinks we have no outside if out of her class. Even if you use chat on the homework you will still spend 5+ hours doing it. is very leanent on due dates tho. test every week
