Gospel Choir director, best class and worth your time. Many students take course over multiple quarters. Teaches with passion, talent, humor. Phenomenal voice, always gives a good time!
Great guy! If you need a fine arts class or you want a class thats fun take gospel choir with this guy! It a great class, and he makes it fun. He has a lot of passion for what he does, he's just great.
Very fun class! Ken is funny and always makes it interesting.
Oh yes. This is my best class this quarter! I love it to death!
Gospel choir is an awesome class and you literally do make good music!!!!
doesn't matter if you have singing experience or not. ken makes singing easy and fun. definitely take it with friends!
i have never been in a choir before and i had a blast. take this class and ken will make you laugh every class guaranteed and time will go by soo damn fast.
The most fun I've had in a class in a looooong time. I'm taking it again next quarter just because it was so enjoyable, and the only class I look forward to every week!
BEST TEACHER EVER!! =) He is so passionate about singing and he is such a fun guy. I recommend everyone take this class, no singing experience involved =)
Gospel Choir with Ken Anderson was the most exciting choir class I have ever taken. It was fun learning the gospel/negro spiritual tradition. He made you feel so comfortable singing, even if you made a fool of yourself. I would consider him a friend now...more than a professor.
awesome teacher...he is the funnest guy, and he really is a gifted singer...take this class!!!!!!!!!!!!
One of the only classes at UCSD you can stay awake for with such a large sum of time required. I had a lot of fun and it is quite difficult to not pass. Get the two or three units and have a good time.
3rd time taking gospel choir w/ ken and will do so again next quarter - max is 6 quarters at ucsd for credit - that's 12 units of no-brainer sing-your-heart-out goodness and most people can't sing so don't be shy it's all in good fun
Take this class for your fine arts requirement, pass fail. Ken's funny, cool, and all you gotta do is stand there once a week for a couple hours and sing. You don't even have to be good. I enjoyed having him as a teacher.
This is by fair the best class at UCSD.
i love this professor. the best in UCSD. this class is the only class i actually look forward to going to.
this was seriously the best class i've taken so far. it's just singing!! ken makes the class great...it was the only class i looked forward to this quarter and i can't wait to take it again. :)

I attended UCSD 92-96 and took this class a total of 12 times.

OH MY GOD!!! Why can't all professors be like him?! I took Gospel Choir twice, yes twice! Ken is such a great guy, so fun to work with, and if you don't take his class you are seriously missing out!
Easy class and fun. Ken does a good job of turning 300+ kids into a choir. Even if you're not very good it's easy units and not a ton is required. you can have 2 absences and you have to go to 2-4 preformances and you'll get full credit. Plus Ken is very animated and loves what he does, so he's fun to learn from.
Wonderful class, great teacher. It was like a once a week stress reliever that was worth 3 units.
He lets you out of class early and is hilarious. He's great with the piano and the songs he teaches are so nice. You'll love gospel choir with him.
This is a very fun class that meets once a week with a great professor. He is fantastic on the piano and memorizes the music for all parts. A very easy class that gets let out very early and such a blast to attend.
he's by far the greatest teacher i've had at UCSD so far. classes are LOTS of fun. easy way to get credit.
He is coooooooooooooL~ Take his class. It will be a treasure of your memory. - from a graduate-
Amazing class and amazing teacher! Ken is the man and I had such a fun time! What a great way to sing, relieve stress, and enjoy praising God with good ol fashion fun! I would highly recommend this class even if you aren't the greatest singer! Trust me, you'll be glad you signed up for it!
HE WILL LEAVE YOU WITH SUCH AN IMPACT, THAT YOU WILL NEVER FORGET HIM!
The class is a lot of fun.I wondered why I was even getting credit for it because it didn't feel like a class. Teacher is great, fun, and very understanding. I recommend this class and teacher to everyone.
I love this class; all the songs are really nice and they are emotionally stimulating. This class left a great impression on me. Ken is a great, he adds fun to the class and he is really easy going. This class is really fun, I really recommend it.
Excellent professor. Nice guy. Funny, too. I definitely recommend taking his class to fulfill any art requirement at UCSD.
Ken provides a great environment for singing and priasing the lord, just a great teacher.
great teacher! fun, amiable. if youre serious about singing, join the enseble. ez to take for 3 units, since some concerts are only an hour on campus
great and funny teacher, easy course to satisfy fine arts requirement
AMAZING!!! one of the best music teachers on campus!
definitely the most amazing class i have taken at ucsd & ken is really fun & loves teaching this class
Ken is awesome, I love him and he makes music so fun. It's only once a week, but it's so interactive and you have so much fun :0)
Awesome class. You can go there just to relax. What better way than to go there, have fun, and get units for it? Ken is really awesome. This class is a definitely a must take! :)
Awesome Prof!!! Class is both chill and fun! Everyone should take this class at least once!
I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE this class. The music is great, the class is easy and the Teacher is AMAZING. Don't doubt it for a second. You;ll have soo much fun in this class! He has so much passion and energy for this music and it gets you totally enthusiastic and energized too! Don't worry if you can't sing... IT DOESN"T MATTER. Just have fun!
basically, you're a moron if you hate this guy.
The class is pass/no pass and is based on how often you go to class and the concerts. You can miss like 2 classes. I recommend taking it for 3 units instead of 2 since it is only 1 more concert which is like another hour or 2.
I love this class! Professor Anderson keeps rehearsals lively and entertaining. He's got a great sense of humor and you actually end up learning a lot about the origins of gospel music. The concerts are a lot of fun to participate in, especially while singing with the phenomenal vocalists he invites to solo for us.
Very fun, ive taken this class 4 times. even the guys like it. its nice after a stressful day
Amazing class. Fun Teacher, really helpful and considerate. Definitely teacher of the year!
Mr Anderson is a great teacher and Professor. His class is so much fun even if you do not know how to sing. The concerts are the best! Attend all the classes and learn the songs!
Great professor. KNows his stuff and keeps the attention of all the students.
Ken Anderson is great! Gospel Choir is the most enjoyable way you can get a couple of units under your belt. Ken is amazing (and has an awesome voice) & his class is a blast. :)
HE IS THE BEST. TAKE HIM NOW.
KEN ANDERSON IS SUCH A BEAUTIFUL PERSON. HE CARES ABOUT HIS STUDENTS TREMENDOUSLY! TAKE THIS CLASS IF YOU WANT A STRESS RELIEVER AND FUN CLASS. IT IS AMAZING. I GO IN UPSET AND LEAVE HAPPIER AND ENLIGHTENED THAN EVER! <3
This class is AMAZING! Almost everyone at UCSD recommends this class, and I just had to see if it was as AMAZING people say it and I have to say that is! Before graduating, you HAVE to take this class!
It's pass/no pass and they take attendance halfway through class. He always lets class out a bit early. You get one free absence, and you can do 2-4 concerts on campus for 2 or 3 units. Easy and entertaining way to get units.
There is no bad word to say about Ken. I went really intimidated by the fact that I can't sing, but then you realize everybody else can't sing either and we're in there for the same reason - to get rid of the fine arts req. He manages to get 300+ people to sing BEAUTIFULLY. It is so much fun in his class. How could I not reccommend it? 20 thumbs up
Gospel Choir is the perfect way to de-stress from the day and have fun singing. Ken is an amazing professor who encourages his students to train hard and take good physical care of themselves. The class requires complete attention since the material is 100% oral and audio. It's a great class with a large attendance. One of my favorite at UCSD!
Ken keeps the class moving all the time. His energy and easygoing manner make class a joy to attend. This is a great fine arts class even if you aren't particularly religious. Ken makes learning the lyrics easy by first speaking them, then writing them on the board and having the class sing the songs throughout the quarter.
If you have not taken this class yet you're a dumdum. Apologies BUT REALLY...TAKE IT NOW! Ken is the most amazing, loving, fun and caring professor you'll ever have at UCSD. You do not need to know how to sing to be in the class. Just come enthused and ready to leave happier than you came in :D A+++ for this class and A+++++++++ for Ken
Great guy
I highly recommend this class, and Ken as a professor. He always had me laughing every time I went to class. This is the best way to fulfill your Fine Arts requirement. Bottom line: KEN IS AWESOME. GOSPEL CHOIR IS AWESOME. PLEASE TAKE THIS CLASS BEFORE YOU GRADUATE. YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT.
I am a horrible singer, yet this class relieved me of so much stress. I loved coming to this class and going to the concerts. Even got free Subway at one of them! Ken is a great professor who is truly amazing at getting a group of students to sing and feel passionate about it!
Probably one of the best professors at UCSD. The class is super fun and easy especially if you take it with friends, and is perfect for clearing a fine arts GE. Attendance is mandatory, no final but you must perform in 2-4 concerts. Definitely a must take class!
The homie. His elegant voice, so massive, so commanding, so beautiful.
Fantastic singing teacher, he is funny and skilled. Everyone needs to take Gospel Choir at least once. If you don't like the idea of "Gospel" you can take the lyrics with a pinch of salt and if you can't sing well, you can easily hide in the sea of others. For good singers, there is a smaller ensemble within the class and the occasional solo.
TAKE HIS CLASS! One of the best teachers I've had! He cares for his students so much and is passionate about what he does! His class his a stress reliever too haha
he's very passionate about music, and makes class super fun.
Funniest man and most fun class I have taken at UCSD so far. No prior singing experience required, though there is a short audition in the beginning so he can place you in a vocal group (alto, soprano, bass, tenor, etc.). It was a fun class, though sometimes felt long since it was three hours.
Great class.......
Under no circumstance should you go to UCSD and never take him! You don't have to be religious to enjoy this class. This man is pure entertainment. There is nothing else to say.
Ken is by far the coolest teacher on this campus. And Gospel Choir is a necessity if you are at UCSD. Nobody should come through here without taking his class. Its a stress reliever and its absolutely amazing.
KEN IS THE BOMB
I LOVE KEN ANDERSON.
Professor Ken is the best college professor in UCSD. His passion and humor is the great motivation for almost all of the students to attend the class! The class is so relaxing and fun. If you are in UCSD, you should at least take this class once!
No one should say they graduated UCSD without taking Gospel Choir with Professor Anderson.
I love this professor so much. He's amazing, genuine, gives huge hugs .is the most lovable professor on earth, probably.
Not only is he fun to be around, but he has a command of the class that allows him to direct with ease.
Cant sing but had the best time ever at the final performance. definitely one of my highlights in college, esp that one time we sang in the rain. Anderson is like the father you never had. Besides one freebie, you have to attend class each week. Get ready to sing your heart out, groove, and clap to the music!
Dude. Gospel Choir is love. Gospel Choir is life. Seriously this guy makes the 3 hour lecture(which doesn't usually go on for the full 3 hours) worth it. The songs were fun, and the concerts were more fun. I would highly recommend this class to anyone who goes to UCSD - it is kinda like a rite of passage.
Amazing man with the voice of an angel teaching an amazing class. 1010 would recommend.
Lots of fun even if you have no talent whatsoever.
Great
Super good teacher super fun class. Great side to all my cs courses, made school a lot more fun.
This professor brings the enjoyment into school. Not only does he understand melodies, harmonies, and lyrics, he makes it fun with his amusing character. I always look forward to coming to class, because it didn't require any readings, exams, or notes. Just attendance (and memorizing a few lyrics). One of the most enjoyable classes I've ever done.
About 300 students are taking this class this term. Really fun class. The only reason I give 2.0 on difficulty is that the class is about 2.5 hours long.
Great guy, makes you really love the music. He's also hilarious. Just don't mess around too much, and keep your phone away, and you'll be fine.
Best professor in the world!
A very very good professor!
Amazing person
Really nice teacher and Ken is really passionate about his teachings.
Professor Anderson is hands down the best professor I have come across on campus. If you're taking MUS95G (Gospel Choir) with him I say go for it! You literally show up and remember one number (your seat number) and you pass. He has an awesome personality and will have you laughing and smiling throughout the 3 hour lectures. Trust me ... take him!
If you're looking to fulfill an art GE, I highly recommend taking him for Gospel Choir. One of the easiest, yet enjoyable, classes I've taken here. 3 hour lecture. I thought I would be bored to death in class, but I actually find myself enjoying it. He's a funny guy. You can either opt for 2 units (2 concerts) or 3 units (4 concerts).
Honestly, he looks like an older version of Russel Westbrook. More importantly, when he sings, he has more passion and excitement than Russel plays basketball on the court.
AMAZING!!!!! This guy is hilarious, and one of the greatest professors ever. He just wants people to have fun and participate. As long as you want to have a good time and sing, this is an amazing class.
He's a musical genius in San Diego gospel music and education communities. Totally cares, seeks quality and evokes a good time. Clearly skilled and has a very organized system. Just need to show up, participate in rehearsal every week and perform in some concerts. Going to take this class on repeat. Feel lucky to have access to his talent.
A true pillar of the UCSD community, I have never had a teacher as passionate about both his students and his course. Really enjoyable to sing with, all around amazing guy. I will take again even thought I am not required to.
The only thing that would mess up one's experience is the possible inability to keep your hands off your cell phone - he's not too fond of cell phone use during class. At all. But even so, that class is absolutely amazing. I've taken it multiple times and it still hasn't gotten old. Definitely recommend taking it.
Absolute favorite professor here so far at UCSD! So funny and passionate about his class. All you have to do is show up Tuesday or Thursday nights and he always lets you out early. Concerts are not a big deal and the class is always huge so no singing alone. Easy pass and a super fun class that I looked forward to every week!
Our God is an awesome God!
The Professor does not show up several times of the course, disappointed
Kenneth is so kind and passionate about what he does. One of the easiest and most fun classes at UCSD that you can take over and over for multiple quarters but it feels like you actually get something out of it. He also cancels lectures sometimes and you get 3 hours back in your week. Concerts are fun. I took his class twice for credit. He's great
One of my most transformative experiences in life was becoming a part of the UCSD gospel choir, and the mentorship and friendship that resulted from my time with Rev. Kenneth Anderson. Truly a transformative teacher and the gospel choir class was unbelievably fun. I took it as many times as allowed and then became his TA so I could keep showing up!
Professor Anderson is incredible. This course was life changing. He has such leadership and you take so much from this class that is beyond a letter grade. My experience here is something I wish all UCSD students could take with them before they graduate. It is worthwhile, believe me.
Professor Kenneth is amazing. The class is also fun. Just for reminder, this class can only be taken in P/NP form :)
The best course at UCSD. YYDS.
super easy and fun - will definitely take again!!
Literally one of the best and easiest music classes I've taken. The class is P/NP and depending on if you take it for 2 or 3 units you only have to do so many performances. The performances are how you get graded so just show up to the set number of performances and the final performance which is mandatory and you have an immediate pass.
"God"- Tier professor. Easily accessible outside of class and was very passionate about gospel. Highly recommend this class if your looking to remove your fine arts GE. Funny guy as well.
The best class and the best professor I have ever had at UCSD. Truly inspiring, funny, and caring. I love this class.
This was the best professor I've ever had. He was so funny, caring, and dedicated to students. His class was one of my favorites I've ever taken. He was very understanding with late work and absences, and never failed to make his class smile.
Taking MUS 95G with Professor Anderson was one of the most interesting experiences I've had at UCSD, but overall fun. He is very passionate and makes the class fun. The class is very easy overall, and is a very easy way to clear your social sciences GE.
Greatest prof ever, best experience for me at UCSD
Songs are low-key bangers! Attendance is mandatory. Recommend taking with friends to make it more fun, can be boring alone. Reverend Ken is awesome! Easy way to fulfill your music GE if you are in Revelle. Very easy and enjoyable class!
Really W proff should be promoted to be chancellor or president of USA
One of the best professors I have ever had, such a caring and nice guy. He really helps out if there are any issues. Also, the dude that gave a 3/5 is a real hater
Anderson is a hilarious professor! It was always such a joy to go to his choir course. Even though it's a long rehearsal of singing, he still made it fun and worth going! I definitely recommend taking his course!!
Prof Ken is a funny and cool guy. Just go for his course if you like music, need more easy credit or just want some relaxation and make friends out of it.
professor anderson is easily one of my top 3 favorite professors, he's caring and understanding. meets you halfway, i was going to have brain surgery and he took the time to plan out how to finish the course and supported me throughout, very kind genuine man. would take again !
Definitely one of the best classes I've taken at UCSD. Professor Anderson makes it super engaging and easy. unstuck ai was super helpful for studying and boosting my performance.
i've learned so much from this man while also having the best laughs! don't worry about grades if you did all your work and met the guidelines. he grades extremely late, but you're guaranteed an A as long as you do the work. he's extremely understanding and chill.
Genuinely the easiest class I've had here. Prof Anderson is one of the nicest dudes you'll ever meet and is always quick to have a laugh in class. You don't even need to be religious to enjoy the class. Just be there, sing, and have a good time.
He's so much fun to work with. Loved his class so much. He's hilarious and so sweet. The class was so enjoyable I didn't care it was a late class. He never goes the full amount of time and lets us out early. He's incredible. If you're curious about music, take his class! So much fun. Ken is the best.
i absolutely ADORE mr. Anderson. He fills his classroom with love and care and a lot of laughs too. It's like you know for sure that he would be there for you if you called him in the middle of the night. And he actually said that that has happened before. He's so amazing. He's an amazing singer too.
Took his Black Music class at City College—loved it. He's knowledgeable, funny, and caring. Lecture-heavy, so take good notes. Make a shared notes doc with classmates at the start of the year in case of absences. You'll learn a lot—more white students should take his classes. I gained insight and perspective that stuck with me. Highly recommend!
Knowing that many take this course for GE requirement and a P/NP, he was strict on phone usage and attendance, intentionally making the 3 hours on a Tuesday/Thursday night the worse nightmare in the whole week. Additionally, the comments that said 'he often ends lesson early' is definitely a myth.
Kenneth Anderson my goat
