He is a wonderful teacher. When the class started he said that if he didn't teach us anything else he would teach us how to think differently. He has truly succeeded in showing me new ways to think. Expect to learn a lot in his class.

Arrogant as they come. Like the other students said, the class is his way or the highway. Flunks everyones first paper to weed the class #'s down so there is less grading. That's not education, thats corrupt.

He uses only negativity to teach his class. We sit and listen to him rip apart papers and tells us the bad. the same with grading papers. He goes through and rips apart everything. I had a 4.0 in 101 and I have a 2.0 in his class. It doesnt add up.

He is the worst teacher I have ever had. He is incorrect with a lot of his examples and teachings but believes that he is the only person who is right. It is impossible to get a decent grade on a paper.

I felt confident in my abilities until I met this teacher. He tore my papers apart and criticized them, yet when I made corrections he told me it was right the first time. Very frustrating.

He was rude and belittled students right in class. Our papers were never good enough and he said he looked on this website once or twice and was upset... Oh well, if he were a better teacher then he wouldn't have negative things said about him.

A man that wrotes a book with more spelling and other error teaches english yes.. The topics he wants ones to write about SUCK ASS.. and the only converstation he can hold with the class is about sex. He is self absorbed and only wants to talk himself.

Great professor. Very tough but fair. First English class I ever walked out of feeling that I learned a lot. Some of the papers we had to right were ridiculous but had some point behind them to better teach us the certain lesson.

Baab is a good professor. Sure, at times, he tends to interject his personal opinions. But just because he's a teacher doesn't mean he doesn't have the right. I think he was very fair and clear. He obviously knows his material and wants his students to walk away with more than just an easy A.

ALL of the information for tests and papers are discussed in lectures. Take good notes, and you'll do well. Reading the plays help. Teacher is enthusiastic about the subject matter, and does grade hard. Be carefull to answer essays with all points asked for. Do participate in class discussions.

Prof. Baab is a great teacher if you enjoy being challanged. Do not expect his class to be a peice of cake, he does require alot of effort, but in the end you will have definatly learned alot from him. His assignments are long and hard but he has very interesting topic for his papers. Do the reading on time and learn from your mistakes.

Well for a new freshman coming into Mott...I have to say he is not that bad, he does not like to give out A's but thats typical, he wants to challenge us. Anyways he does follow the syllabus, but really does not explain to the best of his ability then, he makes you feel really stupid because you did not look something up, and if you dont know the answer and dont talk much in class, even if you get good grades, he calls on you...doesnt really make me that comfortable lol

The lecture part of the class is good. It's the written quizes that he gives that stink. They are not clear what he wants.

I have learned to be a better writer from this class, but the way he teaches is horrible. He makes students feel bad for not knowing answers and he is very full of himself. I think much of the homework and assignments he gives out doesnt really help students to write better. His grading is also pretty hard.... and he swears A LOT :(

This is the worst class I have ever taken. He is very pompous and egotistical. If you ask him anything, he will belittle you. He enjoys feeling superior over everyone. The class was taught as if it were at a much higher level than 101. The topics he gave out for papers were terrible. Do not take any of his classes, unless you want to be miserable.

I think he wanted to teach at a university but they turned him down for whatever reason and now he takes it out on his students. Be prepared for a sex talk about a month into the class too, he sets it up just so he can talk about it.

I am in Mr. Baab's class and have never heard him talk about sex. He is demanding but fair and is willing to help if you ask him. Some irresponsible students are trying to degrade him because they are not willing to put in the effort or to accept responsibility for their failure.

I don't know why everyone is giving Mr. Baab bad ratings! I loved his class! He does have a very dry sense of humor, however, and some people might not have the sophistication to understand it. His grading procedures were very fair, and his course objectives were clear. Overall, he is a great teacher.

Very unfair grading,he didn't like any paper I did. I had help from a family friend who teaches at the masters level(Ferris), This friend tutored me with a paper and I still received a c-. Very full of himself makes you feel stupid when you ask questions. DON'T take this class. Mott has other very good instructors

He made me feel real stupid. He said I should take 099 instead of 101. Itested higher than 099. I dropped his class because on the second day he asured me I would fail his class. I am on the honor roll student in Jan Richards class. He is a real dick.

Mr. Baab has very high standards but he is devoted to his subject matter. It is obvious that students who do badly want to blame someone other then themselves. I like the way Mr. Baab dresses.

For those students who choose to think as a high school student instead of an adult in college will more than likely fail this class. I have learned a lot from Mr. Baab and will be taking him for 102 next semester. As an individual grade goes, the STUDENT makes their grade NOT the professor. If you want to pass YOU have to do the work.

I recommend him for 101 and 102. In 101 he teaches the fundamentals such as awkward sentence structure, active/passive voice,tense shift. Copy all of your papers 2 let him look them over to give advice and I guarantee you will get passing grades. He is committed to teaching and expects the same commitment from students.

if you are interested in literature and do not have any other classes to take, then okay, take this class. however, if you are the average student, and you have several other classes, you will not have time for this class. this is one of the hardest classes i've had at mott and i would not recommend it unless you can give it 100% of your attention.

If you show up and do the assignments, you will get a good grade. Very smart teacher, I learned a lot more in his class than I do in most classes.

This class is not hard for someone that tries. I would not recommend taking him if you have very strong opinions. He thinks his opinions are all that mattered and i got fired up in that class alot. His grading seems like it varies and he thinks he works at harvard instead of mcc.

Instructor very thorough but if you participate in class and give an honest effort in class and homework, you will do well in the class. His level of confidence rides the line of arrogance. I liked the challenge I got in the class.

Baab is very opinionated at times and can come off as arrogance, but overall a fair teacher if you participate, do your work, and write papers based on what was taught. Not biased or mean, just honest. Class can seem rough, but if you are a hard worker than you should do fine.

Had prof for 101 and 102. Now that I am at UM Flint he def prepared me for a university setting. Profs at universities expect ALOT more from students. Currently I get all A's on written papers because of his passion for teaching English. I would suggest him for 101 so u can learn about sentence structure and 102 for persuasive techniques.

Baab is one of the few teachers I have had who works hard to make an interesting, worthwhile class. My writing and thinking have improved tremendously. What's that accusation of his talking about sex? I have heard no mention of it except when he explained that sex is often referred to in ads. That critic obviously has an axe to grind.

If you are looking for an "Easy A" then you should look elsewhere. This was one of the hardest classes I have taken and I'm in Calculus III! Daily journal entries and stories to read are in store for whomever takes this class. I learned more from Prof. Baab then from all my other English professors.

I was so scared @ the beg. of his class. He is very sharp,witty,intimidating. So helpful if u take time to meet w/him. One of the best profs at Mott. I learned alot from him. He likes to talk in German. Is lil wacky at times but always will take time to make sure we were all together in class.Engages w/students equally.At 1st scary but worth it.

Prof. Baab is not a nice man.I would ask him to explain the papers he had us write and he would reply, "Read the directions very carefully" he would not explain them more in detail.He belittles you.I competed in essay writing compitions and won and still could not receive a gade over a C on any of my papers.Lets just say i dropped his class!

Not an easy teacher, but by no means a bad teacher. If you're willing to do the work and follow his directions, it's not difficult to pass the class. Was helpful when clarifying assignments, and always went over homework.

There is a lot of work with this class. You have to come to every class so you do not get lost. He did not mind reading over papers b4 turning them in so you can make revisions before your final grade. I was nervous with every paper I wrote but he would look it over and revise it and I got A's on all the paper's with his help.

I have learned more in his class than in all of the other English classes. He makes you work, but so does he, resulting in great depth and clarity. He is a dedicated, wonderful teacher. I just wish others were as good as he is.

Very arrogant. I do not recommend him if you have even one other class, you won't have time for your other studies. Piles on the homework like you are in high school. Rude and self-absorbed. Worst class I ever had. I love English and everything about it. I was miserable in his class. Stay away.

He knows his stuff and cares about students learning as well as possible. Some call that arrogant--he does not tolerate laziness--but most that I know praise him as one of the best as Mott. Sign up for his class, any class, if you want to learn. You will thank him.

When I took this class in 2009, it was challenging. This was refreshing. This man is a wonderful teacher. He makes you think and put forth effort, and in return you actually learn. He will penalize you for poor attendance. I believe he fails you after six absences. Do not let this discourage you from taking his class. It's worth showing up.
