The class has 3 exams and 1 optional cumulative final. He weighs the exams at 20% each and the HW at 35%. Don't forget to do the HW, it's very easy to do so. He gives the students notes that are partially filled and in order to get the rest you can either go to class or get them from a friend. Oh, and he is also dead sexy.
I have heard that Ken is a lot harder than he was last year. I definitely work a lot in his class. First exam was rough. Second exam I did pretty well because I knew what to expect. He gave a big curve on the second one too. I recommend going to lab and be sure to do your homework! Boring subject, but he's a good teacher if you have to take it.
Nice guy and made it enjoyable.
Go to the labs and do the extra credit experiments. Tests are hard, but if you study enough and go to the review sessions you should be ok.
Ken is a great econ teacher. Knows what he is talking about. However, the homework on Applia can be difficult at times and you have to take your time on it. Do the practice tests because they are very similiar to the actual test he gives. I highly recommend taking Ken. Great guy and very friendly!
Great teacher. Really easy considering all the test curves, dropped test/exam, lab extra points, and experiment extra points. Lab is optional and ex credit. Class is optional and sparsely attended. Book is online; quizzes are annoying and some are difficult but if you take some time they won't be any problem. Best econ teacher
Awesome teacher. Go to lecture and you'll be fine. Go to his office hours before the test, and he tell you what kinds of things to expect on the test.
Easy A if you do your homework.
This class is the easiest class at UT. It is a JOKE! You don't even have to go to class a single day (except for tests) to get an A.
Baker is the best professor I have had at UT! He is extremely knowledgeable about economics and knows how to effectively teach it. He makes the class fairly easy and attendance isn't mandatory but you must go to class if you want to understand econ. He is also very heplful and answers questions very clearly. UT needs more professors like Baker.
Baker seems like a cool guy with good intentions, but he really started to become annoying so I stopped coming to class. His tests are alright, I'm not very economic minded, but I ended up with a B without much effort. I probably would have gotten an A if I attended class. Probably the best Econ 201 teacher at UT though.
His class is more than fair. He gives you plenty of chances to bring your grade up if you make some mistakes. Plus, he's really, really sexy.
I've heard this was a difficult class with anyone else BUT Baker. He gives you plenty of extra credit, curves the tests, and is really nice. He explains things very well. Take Baker for Econ!
He is very fair when teaching his class, gives plenty of extra credit such as labs, and extra experiments. tests are very easy as long as you do all of the practice test questions. If you must take econ, you must take Baker!
If you are taking Econ get Baker! He really is a great teacher. Make sure you keep up with homework because it can make or break your grade! I rocked my homework and it helped my average so much! He doesn't take attendance and gives around 20 points extra credit.
his ratings on here say it all. his class layout is do HW that is assigned online (DO NOT MISS YOUR HOMEWORKS) and study his practice problems for the final. if you go to class... there is no reason other than completly lack of effort you should not get a B or higher. Best econ teacher around. if you got him, congrats!
The lectures are good but not necessary to do very well in the class. DO THE ONLINE HOMEWORK. Also, attending labs gives you extra credit points even though you aren't required to go. The tests aren't hard and he gives practice tests. Study the formulas...that's the keys to an A.
As other have said, make sure you do the online homework and know the material covered on the study guides/practice questions. The homework is a major part of your grade. For example, I did so well on my homework that I only needed a 51 or higher on the last exam to make an A for the class. And as others have said, Baker is a good guy.
Don't let anyone fool you. The class is difficult. In fact, the people on here that say they made 90's on the test HAD THE ANSWERS. It seems the Greek kids have the test in their files. It's no wonder their grades were so high. I know this because they discuss it in class. For the rest of us that have to actually study...this class can be hard.
If you are any ways mathematicaally challenged or math is not your strong point, this class is difficult. He's a good teacher, but he goes really fast and the material is hard to understand.
This class was easy, but the information that I learned is really interesting. The best advice I can give is go to class and do the homework and you will do fine in the class
Ken is a really good teacher. GO TO CLASS, he says you don't have to, but if you go you'll get a B. It's pretty easy, the 1st test is the hardest so don't panic if you do poorly on it.
If you are not strong mathematically, like me, you'll have a hard time in this class. But Ken DOES want you to learn, so DO THE HOMEWORK - it's a huge part of your grade & go to his office hours. Don't hesitate!! The first test sucks, but after that it's ok. Go to class and DO THE HOMEWORK, I can't stress that enough.
If you like theory you will like this class. Ken is a good teacher but this class is hard. He goes really fast and the tests are hard too because the material is so confusing. You have to do the online homework to get a decent grade.
Don't let some of these comments fool you. Ken in an AWESOME guy and a lot of fun, but the class is VERY HARD. I went to class every day and my test scores: 67 70 65. Go to the labs and do all of the experiments AND do all the HW. I still pulled out a B, thank goodness.
great teacher! fun class. he does a great job, plus he's hot!!!
Hard class, keep in mind you cover Macro and Micro Economics which can get confusing. It is not easy, but Baker does everything in his ability to help you get the grade you want. Ken pretty much lectures an outline of the book so... I had to use the book allot to clarify things, but despite this he is a good lecturer.
Great teacher. Crappy subject obviously but his lectures are super easy. Go to class cause his powerpoints make things crystal clear! Do the Aplias(hw) and go to lab. It's hard work but he gives you great opportunity to succeed. Tests suck so go to ReviewSessions! Awesome teacher, he was highly recommended to me and I pass it on!
Dr. Baker is probably the nicest proffesor at UT. He gives good notes in lecture. The exams aren't bad, as long as you do the study quesgions. Go to lab because you get extra credit. There are other extra credit experiments throughout the semester. The HW can be a little tricky, but if you have questions on it you can go to his office. Take him.
BAKER! BAKER! BAKER! The best teacher I had so far. He start the class by saying: "QUESTIONS? QUESTIONS? ANNNNNNYYYY QUESTIONS?" If u have to take this class y MUST get KEN BAKER! I got an A. I went 2 class and labs even though u dont have to. This is not a difficult class. this was my first econ course ever, I thought most stuf was common sense.
Good guy, good teacher. The class is easy if you are willing to work. It's not a "give me A."
He is so great!!! He explains everything so well! He uses examples in a college student's life to help relate the material to you. I had a friend who had a diff teacher and she would skip her class to come to mine cuz he explains it so much better!
GREAT professor! Very helpful and wants his students to do well! Take advantage of his office hours because it will really help your grade! His first exam is the hardest. Homeworks can be hard but he gives you a lot of opportunities for extra credit! TAKE BAKER if you take Econ 201!!
Ken Baker is one of the coolest professors at UT. He makes this class enjoyable and fun. Make sure to do HW, its a HUGE part of the grade. Also, if you want to do well on test, make sure you know everything on the study guides he gives you. Overall, with a little effort, you can get an A!
Real cool guy. Homework is must but labs and attendence are not. This class is not a 'gimme' however. I felt the test were hard, but overall a really good class.
Baker's class is really easy. I went 5 times--the first day and the 4 exams--and made an A-. Just do ALL of the online homework and study a little bit and this class isn't hard at all. I never went to lab, but if you go to all of those and do the online experiments, it raises you up pretty much half a letter grade. Definitely take this class.
Baker is a really cool teacher, and does his best to try to keep you interested in class. His class is not extremely hard, but it is not a cake walk either, but as long as you master the study guides you should do fine. All 130 problems of it. But the test are only about 38 problems. Overall good professor.
Ken tries to make it fun, but he ends up just reading off a powerpoint. Don't be upset with your 1st test score. I got a 62.5, then got a 100 on the 2nd test with the same amount of effort. Classes and labs aren't mandatory, but he gives extra credit for labs and experiments. I'd recommend taking him because of the curve/extra credit.
Cool dude, attendance is not mandatory, 5 tests all together including the final and he drops the lowest test grade, curves tests, first test sucks but the rest are easy. just know practice test and you'll do fine. highly recommended
Economics 201 is a very difficult class but Baker is an AMAZING teacher! He's very good at explaining things and thorough in his lectures. Class was hard but he lightened things up with his examples. He also gives lots of extra credit. Very helpful if you go to his office hours. He's pretty attractive too. Definitely makes going to lecture easier
The first test is hard, but after that things get better. Aplia homework is a pain and hard sometimes, but it is a must! He is a great professor and makes something as difficult and boring as Econ somewhat enjoyable... if you know whats good for you, you'll take him. :)
The material is pretty hard, but if you actually go to class it's definitely worthwhile. Baker explains everything really well and gives plenty of opportunities for extra credit.
I attended nearly every class but rarely paid attention...I made a B easily. Do the homework--it has a huge impact on your grade. He gives four exams and only counts your three best. Highly recommended.
TAKE HIM!! I stopped going to lectures about 3 weeks into the class and I still got a 98% in the class. The study guides are a lot like the tests and he's cute. So, just do it.
Ken is really cool, I had a difficult time grasping the concept of Economics, but Ken worked with me weekly on his time as well as office hours. I felt like he graded very fairly and used APLIA for all of the homework. The lectures are boring, but after all it is ECON. I think Ken is a great teacher and he will work with you to make sure you suceed
Taking someone else for econ 201? You must be joking.
Seriously the best class I've ever had at UT! Attendance is not mandatory, but believe me, you'll enjoy going to it!
He's a really good guy and makes everyone laugh. His tests aren't that easy, but make sure you do ALL the online homework, it counts big time for your grade. Try to go to class if you can, it makes understanding the concepts easier. Plus, lab attendance is BONUS!
This class is entertaining. And Baker is easy on the eyes, plus he has a personality! Dont take anyone else for Econ, there isnt anyone else.
The class size was far too large for my taste. More than 300 students in an auditorium. The class moves very fast and material builds on itself. If you don't understand one concept, you are not likely to understand anything after it. Skipping class is not recommended!
The best professot I have had at UT, he really uses concepts the class can understand. You need to go to class or you will fall behind in a class like Economics. He gives you every chance to do well, lots of extra credit chances, like labs.
baker is a great teacher. He tries to make it fun. sometimes its painful to sit through class just taking notes but you need to go to fill in the blanks on the notes. attendance is not mandatory but it helps to be there. the labs are extra credit but they really boost your grade. just do what he asks and youll have fun and make a good grade.
Baker tries to make class entertaining, he makes it easy to get an A if you put in the effort.
i didn't think Baker was what he was cracked up to be. his tests were kinda hard. his notes are frustrating because he leaves so many things blank on each slide. you miss hearing what he's saying because you are trying to copy the missing notes. go to lab & do all the experiments..they help alot!
he's not easy as everybody makes him out to be! doesnt curve, but gives little extra credit. cool guy, but ppl who say its easy either have ppl take the test for them or frat files.
Very easy class. Do the homework and study the old exams before the test and you'll get an A. Put very little effort into this class and still didn't have to take the final. Highly recommend.
Not quite as easy as everyone says. Attendance is not mandatory, but it definitely helps. The online homework is kind of annoying because he doesn't explain how to do the economics in a problem-type scenario, but it is still not too difficult. Lab and experiments are easy extra credit. Exams are not too bad, but many people have not done well.
He is a great professor. His first test for fall 10 was a little hard but i think that's the TAs faults. Going to class helps but it's possible to do good without going so long as you do the homework and the practice exam. Do the experiments go to lab and definitely do your homework. and your test grades will come out just fine.
Baker is much better than the other professors from what I hear. Just keep up with stuff and study and you'll be fine. 4 exams and he takes the top 3, so that was nice. Overall, a really good class. Optional labs, too.
Probably the easiest class I've taken in my college career. He does a good job dumbing complex economic concepts to an understandable level. People should learn the concepts instead of trying to memorize the study guides for the tests! The tests aren't hard at all if you do this!
Ken is the man! I was worried about econ, but he made it really fun and interesting. You would be stupid to not take him. Probably my favorite professor at UT.
Awesome awesome teacher, very helpful. Breaks class down to elementary level. GREAT Availability. As long as you do the practice tests before looking at the answers you are golden!!!
He is a good teacher. For those of you who didn't know, ECON 201 is actually a math class, but he did a good job teaching it. He may need to drink decaf though. Really eccentric and quick winded at times.
Really interesting teacher. You can tell he really enjoys teaching and economics, which makes class more enjoyable.
Awesome teacher, gives tons of extra credit, going to class is not necessary
The most difficult part of this class was staying focused due to his enticing good looks. Mr. Baker is the best professor I have had at UT so far. If you have a hard time with the material go to the office hours! He will walk you through the hw & explain it to you. Also, go to the labs those extra points really help at the end.
This class was difficult for me but if you go to the labs and do the experiments, the extra credit will definitely help bad test grades. I ended up making a B without understanding very much about economics.
This class is an incredibly easy B. Labs are optional but extra credit is given each attendance. Also EC is given for doing the simple online experiments. Tests are almost exactly like the practice tests he gives. Homework is actually a pain in the butt though and takes the most time out of anything. Great class and teacher though!
Ken was a wonderful professor and the class overall wasn't bad. Labs aren't mandatory to attend, but they are worth extra credit points. When you complete more than one experiment, you get EC. He will help with your online homework if you go to his office hours. This class shouldn't be that hard if you put the time into it. I made an A!
Go to labs and do all the extra experiments, not alot of your time and it more than pays off. Get an A on one test and you basically cannot fail.
Very cool and enthusiastic guy! He's easy to understand and even though he says attendance isn't mandatory I recommend that you go. There's a lot of online hw that may be difficult but is usually nothing like the tests. Overall good class, and hot teacher.
such a great professor. i actually enjoy class because he's so entertaining. attendance is optional, labs are optional. homework is once a week and takes about an hour. 3 exams that are just like the study guides. easy.
Dr. Baker has an energetic teaching style which keeps lecture interesting. He's always asking if anyone has questions, and is very willing to help outside of class. Labs cover a lot of test material, so go to them! Tests are difficult, but not impossible. I went in with no interest in Econ, and came out with an A and a major in Economics.
Mr. Baker always starts class asking over and over again if anyone has any questions. He is very helpful and makes economics fun. Definitely take him for Econ 201. By far my favorite teacher this semester!
Funny guy, great personality, very clear while talking
One of the better teachers at the university. Class isn't hard and only need to study a little to get a good grade.
Best Econ class option. He's very good at explaining in lecture, and the labs help to reinforce it. Go to labs. The extra points add up and if you don't go to lecture, you can learn everything you need in lab. He also gives study guides for tests. Do homework, go to lab, use the study guide, and you should have an A.
He is the best teacher I have ever had! He makes Economics relatively easy to look at and he really cares about his students' success. Take him if possible!
One of the best professors I've ever had at UT. I hate Econ, but he made it very interesting and easy to understand. Try to attend class, go to the labs and do the experiments (they're fun). You'll accumulate a lot of extra credit, which help you at the end. Thanks to his good looks and his teaching style it's very easy to pay attention. Take him!
Best guy for 201. Was really clear in what he was wanting on tests. Practice Tests/Study Guides are practically the same as the test. Don't take anyone else for 201. I made a 98 and the final is optional and he also drops your 3 lowest homework grades
Just do his study guides and read over the slides that you fill out when you go to class and you won't fail. Have to go to class and pay attention though.
One phrase: TAKE BAKER! He is fun. He is fairly easy. He is helpful. He is everything you could ask for in a professor!
Take him. Great teacher. Makes it easy to understand and he is a pretty funny guy. I've heard he is the best econ teacher and I don't doubt that.
Do not take anyone else. Baker is by far the best you can take for 201. He gives so much extra credit it's silly. His tests are not easy, but mirror the practice test.
Ken is the MAN! Extra credit opportunities are out of this world! Homework is straightforward. Exams are completely doable (I made 95 and 98 on first two). If you take economics 201 at the University of Tennessee, take it with Ken Baker!!!
He is a great teacher and knows his stuff. Very funny and likes to try and keep class enjoyable. Wold highly recommend him.
This class is great, but good luck getting into it. It fills up fast because Ken Baker's class is the best. Final exam is optional. Online homework site sucks, but there are so many opportunities for extra credit. Baker makes it fun and interesting, and you'd be silly to take any other professor.
BEST PROF EVER! Not a business person, but he made it so easy to understand! Clear expectations, gives extra credit like its going out of style, and tests are almost the study guide exactly.
AWESOME teacher. Take Ken!! Made everything super clear, and easy. Only have to attend half of the classes, the other half are extra credit for going. Same with experiments and labs. Just do the homeworks online and study a little for tests and you'll be fine.
Ken is an extremely fun, easy economics teacher. The homework load is almost 0, his exams are just like the study guides (which are so easy). You only have to go to 15 lectures for full attendance credit, and 5 labs, too. Makes it fun and simplifies economics to its most basic principals. Take Dr. Baker, you'll be glad you did.
Go to class! Do well in Baker's half because it gets harder. Use the study guide provided! Made an A, but only after making a 100 and 94 on Baker's tests. Don't need the textbook.
Awesome teacher. You do have to come to class to fill in your class. Just do your homework and the experiments and you will do fine.
By far my favorite teacher at Tennessee! I changed my major to econ after taking this class! He explains everything very well and holds your interest. His study guides and TA review sessions help a lot for the tests.
One of the best professors at UT. 201 still isn't a cakewalk, but Baker makes it pretty interesting and provides plenty of help if you need it.
AWESOME! AWESOME! AWESOME!
Dr. Baker is one of the best professors I've had so far at UT. He explains thing so thoroughly and so well until he knows that everyone understands it. Also, his work load isn't terrible either. All around a good class!
Great teacher. Easy course. Very easy to listen to because he is so animated. Lots of extra credit opportunities. Only teacher to take for Econ for sure
Definitely the teacher to take for econ! I was HORRIBLE at econ in high school, but will probably end up with an A in this class. He gives lots of chances for extra credit, so if you're worried about your grade, take the opportunities he gives! He tries to make the class interesting and is very friendly and approachable.
He explained everything very well. Multiple extra credit opportunities, but you shouldn't need them. The tests were very simple, but you do need to go to class for the notes. Definitely take Ken.
Completely ignore the comments that say its a cake walk. I consider myself a good student, studied the study guides for tests and am doing average. Baker is great, but you have to put in a lot of effort. Tons of extra credit if you're willing to go to the extra labs, classes, and do experiments. Aplia will bring you down. Be prepared for that.
Baker is COOL, but this class is not as easy as the below comments say. You have to STUDY. The tests ARE NOT like the study guides. I fell for that, and now I'm sorry. Focus on Aplia assignments, they will kill you.
Ditto on comments saying its a cake walk. I'm a good student, did study guides for tests = doing average. Baker is great professor, makes class relevant, but must put in the extra effort. Tons of extra credit if you're willing to do extra labs, classes, and do experiments. Aplia WILL bring you down. Get points on the assignments!Baker is my homeboy
His portion of the class was fairly easy. Know everything he puts on the study guides and you will do okay on his exams.. Anderson's Exams are harder... I made 96 and 94 on Bakers exams. 92 and 80 on Anderson's after really studying the material. All the material comes exactly off the powerpoint slides. Know how to do the PROBLEMS.
It is not the hardest class, but it does require a lot of effort. As said before, there are so many extra credit chances that there is really no need to worry, as long as you are willing to try.
EXCELLENT PROFESSOR! LOVE THIS GUY!
All around best teacher in Knoxville. Very passionate about what he teaches and goes out of his way to help his students understand the topic.
If you attend UTK you have to take this guy!
Ken Baker is a great teacher and made this class interesting and strengthened my knowledge of international business. This class can be dull at times but I found the information useful. The class is divided between two teachers and Anderson's part of the class was a bit of a struggle and nowhere near as good as Bakers. Baker should teach it all
The greatest. He brings economics to life, never dull, and keeps your focus. A student would be insane not to take his class.
An excellent professor all around.
Easiest class ever. He's a good econ teacher too, and a pretty silly guy so lectures aren't too boring. He gives Practice Exams EXACTLY like the exams. There's an optional Final. You only have to go to 5 labs, the rest are extra credit. He does take attendance with clicker questions. I ended up getting a 100 on the final and received an A.
Great guy! Super funny and energetic, and very easy to listen to. Would definitely take him over anyone else for Econ.
exactly like he looks in his photo. Very energetic and full of fun. I never get board in his class. And will definitely recommend him. I would say all UTK student should take his class even if not required by major. IF you want to learn, have fun, and eventually get good grades, He is the best option.
Ken is the man. He has a magnetic and engaging personality, and he made me want to go to an otherwise boring (in my opinion) class. His teaching and testing is all very straightforward, and he is very good about answering questions and helping you out. The class is set up for you to succeed; you merely have to put in the effort.
I don't really understand the hype..he goes extremely fast through the power points and they don't exactly make sense. He was okay at best.
Good teacher and does his best in a huge class. If you comfortable with econ his sections is easy. His study guides are exactly like his tests, so make sure you do good on his part because Anderson's section is brutal.
Baker's a cool guy. You either have to type out a lot of notes on powerpoint or printout the slides and write them. He has to go through the material fast to be able get through all of it. If you have questions from class, you can normally get them answered well in your lab. Overall, good class. If you have to take 201, go with Baker.
Good teacher! Do the study guides and know them inside and out and you will do good. Also, read the articles before the test and look over the slides a little because a few of the test questions are not on the study guides. I made high A's on both of his tests by doing this! Tests are very straight forward! Go to class to fill in powerpoints!
Great teacher of Economics! Clicker Questions daily. Straight forward with what you need to know. He will help you on the online HW (which can get confusing) in his office hours so go!! One of my favorite gen ed classes. Recommended
This is a gen ed class, that's relatively easy. There are 4 exams, including an optional final. Clicker points can make or break an A, so try to go to class. He gives a lot of extra credit and he's interesting to listen to. He's also funny and really easy to talk to!
All around good professor. Just go to class and do basic studying and you should be good!
Clicker points are your key to success. Go to class, and go to lab and you should do fine. Study guides are very helpful going into the test, so use them. Baker is an outstanding professor.
Baker is an awesome teacher. He's good at taking a boring subject and making the class interesting. He's a funny guy as well. He gives clicker questions every single day that help, his tests are decent. Attend the class to get clicker points. Would take again if I had too.
I did well on the exams, but I skipped most of the online homework. Take into consideration that homework for this professor is 30% of the grade. That means that you would need a %100 on clickers, labs, and exams to get a C. You only have to go to half of the labs and 70% of classes to get full credit. He's very charismatic, great teacher.
He is chill.. Easy A
Econ as a subject is pretty boring but he's a funny guy and makes it interesting. overall a quality teacher would recommend.
I had Ken Baker for both Econ 201 and Business Admin 361. He has been a great teacher for both. For 361, he presents the content in a way that makes it as entertaining as possible. He makes jokes a lot of the time and has a laid back attitude. Print out his PPT's to complete easier because he uses a ton of graphs to get. his points across.
Ken is awesome!!! Wish I could take his course again. Although, you are required to go majority of class. You are only required to attend 6 out of 13 labs, if you attend more its extra credit. You are required online homework that's a little tough but if you go to lab then its easy. Test are straight forward from study guide.
Awesome instructor and an awesome class!! Tests are easy and almost exactly like the study guides!!
I loved this class on income inequality. He made class very interesting, and it seemed like he actually cared about what people thought.
Dr. Baker is a great teacher. He always responds to e-mail within a few hours, and really cares about his students. He teaches economics in a way that is very understandable to students. I would definitely take him again.
Baker's portion makes this class possible. Go to class, fill in the powerpoints, and spend time studying. He's super helpful in office hours and if you've studied all the slides and articles the exams will be easy.
He is an amazing teacher and I wish I could have taken him the whole semester instead of only half. He explains things very well in lectures and seems very laid back and funny.
Very cool dude. Drops one of the 3 tests. Expect a lot of online homework. Makes economics an interesting topic and discusses real life tie-ins.
Ken Baker has been my favorite teacher so far! He is awesome and very helpful. The tests are easy if you study the study guide. The only downside to his class is the homework. If you get the answers wrong the first time you get points off. You only have to go 6/12 labs and the rest are extra credit. Get as many clickers as possible! TAKE HIM!!
Ken is a really great professor, Econ is just a difficult subject. He is a super fair guy though. He gives 3 exams not including the final exam, but he drops the lowest of the 3 exam grades and he drops your 2 lowest homework grades. He puts up study guides and has study sessions before every exam (GO TO THEM). He also takes clicker points!
Get him! Lectures are not boring very often. He gives you extra credit if you get over a certain amount of 'clicker' points and go to more than 6 labs. His TAs are helpful in labs if you get Jessica. You have four tests including final but he takes your lowest off! Tests are 60 percent of grade, homework 30%, clickers and labs 10%.
Baker is a fantastic teacher who cares about his students and knows his materials. Teaches the first (or second) half of the class. Interesting topics and information about foreign countries. If you want help he will be there to explain things to you, although he is pretty good about explaining things in lecture that make sense.
Ken is an awesome teacher! He makes Econ pretty interesting. His test are very fair and straightforward--I never made below a 94, and I made over a 100 on the final. Plus one of your regular exams get dropped. If you put in just a little effort you'll make an A.
He gives good study guides before each of the first three exams. Just don't mess around with the online HW, it's worth 30% of your grade and can be pretty tricky at times.
if you're taking econ, TAKE BAKER. only 6 out of 12 labs are required, and the homeworks can be difficult if you don't read. all in all, his tests are straight forward if you study his practice exams. he even drops an exam.
Best professor in my career so far. Very straightforward; no tricks. Very enthusiastic and genuinely wants you to learn and cares about students. He is clear about what is to be expected at every point in the semester. You must come to class to finish filling out his powerpoints. They are all you need for exams. E-text is only for homework.
Professor Baker was great and he made learning Economics a lot easier to understand than I would have expected.
Ken is one of the best teachers I have had! He is really easy to understand, but sometimes his lectures are rather boring. Study guides are just like the tests. Definitely an easy A.
Clicker points and labs make up 10% of your grade. You only have to attend 6/12 labs and get 70/100+ clicker points to get full credit. Anything more is extra points. I studied for about 3 hours per exam and made an average of 92. He drops lowest of 3 exams prior to final. Online homework is tough, and is what kept me from getting an A.
Ken Baker is the best professor I have ever had, including all my teachers prior to coming to UT. He is hilarious and makes the class interesting, he makes all of the info relatable. Even if you don't like econ, Ken makes it bearable. I will take every class he teaches. AMAZING PROFESSOR. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
Ken Baker is what a professor should be. Very helpful and gives study guides that actually help. Homework can be a little tough but he drops a few. He gives a lot of extra points (clicker points, lab attendance, etc.) I recommend taking him because economics is dry and boring but he makes the class fun with his jokes.
Dr. Baker is the man. Enough said. I know many students who build their schedule around his so they can take him. If his class isn't already full, sign up for him.
Ken is a great professor who is somehow able to make dry economics material interesting. He makes lectures engaging and provides several grade boosting opportunities throughout the semester. If you study, exams are easy as they closely resemble the study guide. Overall, I would highly recommend over other Econ professors.
Ken is a great teacher!!! He makes boring business seem interesting. Tests are EXACTLY like the study guides. You only need a certain amount of clicker points, so you don't have to go to every class. Same with labs.
Definitely one of the best professors I've had. He knows how to make boring lessons interesting by always making funny references and cracking jokes. Labs and clicker points are very relaxed but he challenges you with the homework. Even if you don't like big classes you will really like this professor.
THE BEST. Make sure you go over the study guides for the tests, they are just like them. Aplia homework can be challenging, so make sure you fill in the powerpoints to help you later on. Attendance isn't mandatory, but he has clicker questions every class. I missed maybe 4 or 5 classes and I still got my 70 clicker points. Overall, amazing guy!!!
Kenneth is a perfect human being. SO funny and really knows his stuff. He wants you to succeed. The exams are just like the study guides, so there's no surprises. His humor and personality made a pretty boring subject well worth the class time.
Ken is the best professor I have had since I started school. He is hilarious. 3 exams and a mandatory final, he drops lowest exam grade. Homework can be kind of tricky but overall easy if you pay attention in class. Take it seriously, its worth 30% of grade. Study the study guides for exams and you should be fine. DEF would recommend.
Ken is awesome. You don't have to go to class, but there are clicker points and they help a lot. He puts the notes online but they are missing certain parts that you can only in class so if you miss, make sure you know someone else who has the notes. He is super funny, lots of memes. Great Professor.
I took this class in Summer 2016. Dr. Baker engages with students on his discussion modules. You HAVE to participate in the labs and discussions, and HAVE to read and do the homework. The material is NOT that hard.
LOVED this professor. He's very clear with his explanations and you can tell he really spends a lot of time on his lectures. If you can, take econ with this guy. He makes what could be an extremely difficult class a breeze.
The class isn't really mandatory but if you don't show up then you'll probably fail. It's a really difficult subject but Ken makes it so much fun. Also, he uses Game of Thrones references so you have to love him.
A lot of people say he's an easy professor, I disagree. I have done well in all of my classes that I've taken so far, but haven't struggled so much except in this class. His tests are incredibly hard, and the subject itself is boring. Homeworks are irrelevant to his lectures and are really hard.
Gives tons of extra credit opportunities and always posts the lecture slides. I recommend printing them out so you can fill them in as he lectures. He also suggests this the first day of class. Gives practice material before each test and those questions are typically seen on the tests. Labs along with this are definitely helpful and super easy.
He really enjoyed what he was talking about and it made it interesting to listen. Attendance is not mandatory, but you will want to show up. Being there and hearing how he discussing things is key to studying such a long study guide later.
Professor Baker is a great guy! He's funny and always willing to help whenever you have a question. Economics is not the most exciting class, but he made it a lot of fun.
Seriously adore this man. I would take his class again and again if I could. He's funny and if you go to class it's relatively easy. He's funny and he's interesting to listen to teach. Attendance isn't mandatory, but clicker questions are part of your grade... but you can still get plenty and skip class every now and then.
This class was a joke. Attendance is mostly optional and it isn't very hard when you do attend. He gives excellent lectures and is one of the better professors I've had at UT. Take him if you get a chance.
Baker is awesome. His lectures are very straight-forward, and he makes his tests very similar to the practice questions he makes available to you. If you go to lecture consistently, you should easily retain the information. The online homework was kind of tough, but he offers many, many ways to fluff your grade.
Econ is boring, there is no getting around that. However, Professor Baker makes it at least slightly better. He's super funny and relatable, and he'll work with you on just about anything if you talk to him. Attendance isn't "mandatory," but you do clicker questions in class (need 70/100). Tests are nothing to worry about if you pay attention.
Although Econ is hard, Baker really helps you succeed in the class. There is so much extra credit! I didn't do very good on the tests, but because I went to all 12 labs( only 6 are mandatory) and went to every class( only need 70 clicker points) I got a B! The online homework is hard, but not terrible.
Baker is a really great professor, and has a high energy lecture style that easily holds your attention.
The most difficult about the class was the homework. The tests take a little critical thinking but nothing you cannot figure out if you paid attention in class. Ken Baker is probably one of my favorite teachers at UT.
Ken Baker is one of the best professors I have had so far. He adds in funny yet practical examples in his lectures to help the content stick with you. The content is pretty easy to grasp as long as you go to class. He uses clickers in every class.
Ken is amazing, really makes you want to major in Econ!
Ken is an amazing professor. He makes his lectures fun and interesting, with references to pop culture. If you took econ in high school, test 1 will be a breeze, but 2 and 3 are killer. Luckily, he drops one of the three. You must go to 6/12 labs, but you don't have to do anything in the labs. There's lots of extra credit opportunities as well.
Dr. Baker made Economics as enjoyable as one can make Economics. He always was upbeat and showed up to class with a smile. I loved hearing his lectures; they were engaging and interesting. You do have clicker questions, which make going to class somewhat mandatory, but other than that, this class was incredible. Take Dr. Baker for Econ!
Ken is a really cool guy and really tries to relate the day's lesson to you. He gives you a million chances for extra credit. I won't lie, econ is definitely not easy and not my favorite class by far, but he made it as fun as possible. Use his office hours and your TA!
Mr. Baker is one of the best professors I've had at UT so far. You must go to lectures because he does clicker points for attendance and extra credit. Also, he gives you half the lecture notes online and the other half you fill out during lecture. He makes class interesting and he is hilarious. Take advantage of office hours! Would do hw with me!
Attendance not mandatory except for clicker questions. I stopped paying attention after the 2nd exam and still made over a 100 in the class. Went to every lab and got more than enough clicker points and did all the experiments so I had a lot of extra credit. The material is difficult but he definitely makes it bearable. Homework was pretty hard.
Super easy class, stopped paying attention to lectures after the 2nd one and only attended for the clicker points. You only have to show up to half of the labs for full credit and anything after that is extra credit. Same goes for lectures. Overall, easy class and an awesome teacher.
Econ is like a foreign language to me. Ken made it a little less painful to have to sit through. He is a wonderful teacher, is HILARIOUS, and gives so many chances for extra points, that it's hard to fail. If you struggle with anything like this, I can't recommend taking him enough.
Ken is a great teacher for Econ 201. He is always smiling and making jokes but he still teaches economics really well. You don't use the book much as long as you come to class. The exams are not difficult as long as you have studied.
Ken is by far the best professor Ive ever had. He makes lectures entertaining and informative at the same time. I love how he gives you half the notes on his PowerPoint slides before class, and you have to fill in the rest during class. This helps so much with learning the material. Only real semi-difficult part of the class is the homeworks.
I love Ken. He is so excited about Econ and makes it fairly easy to learn. He is also super helpful and wants you to learn and understand the material.
Awesome Professor, go to the lectures to get clicker points and look over the Saplings and Flipit and Study Guides for Exams and youll make at least a B
TAKE HIM FOR ECON!!! He moves the homework deadline back all the time, his practice exams are exactly like the actual exam, and his lectures are entertaining plus he's so cute. Only thing is you actually need to go to class to get clicker points, and his powerpoints have blanks on them that you need to fill in if you want to have the lectures.
I LOVE KEN IF YOU CAN TAKE HIM DO IT!!!! He's so funny and easy on the eyes. His lectures are entertaining but you have to fill out the powerpoints because he doesn't post the full version after class.
Ken Baker is a dreamboat. He's pretty to look at, he's funny, and he's smart. He really knows his stuff about Economics. If you do all of the work you'll do really well in the class. He gives you plenty of chances to make mistakes and learn from them. I hated the class material but he's an amazing teacher. He loves his students.
I love Ken Baker. He understands the needs of students and does his best to help out everyone. Utilize exam study guides that he provides, and definitely fill out the notes that he gives in class. From the start, Ken will tell you attendance is semi-mandatory. DON'T LISTEN. DON'T SKIP CLASS. Its tempting, but its a big chunk of your grade.
I really like Mr. Baker. He's a great teacher. If you forget your calculator or scantron for the test, he will have extras and will just trade something of you for it. I never went to class, because clickers were involved, and you can usually have a friend take yours. The tests were like the practice exams, so this class was easy. I hate economics!
Some days can drag on so try to take in afternoon. Clicker points can catch up with you, so be careful. Averaged about 5 clicker points per day. Must go to 8/12 labs for full credit lab grade. 3 exams (drops lowest score) and a COMPREHENSIVE final. 1 online homework assignment per week. 4 "experiments" which are online games, no knowledge needed.
Professor Baker is a great economics professor. He really knows what hes talking about, and explains it in a way thats easy to understand. He has PowerPoints with blanks in them so you can fill them in during class. He also asks a lot of clickers, and gives extra points on almost every exam. I highly suggest taking Dr. Baker for econ!!
Cool guy who knows his stuff and how to effectively teach it. Practice exams are almost identical to exams. Homework is much more difficult that actual exams. Must attend because of clickers.
Requires roughly 70% attendance. Know the study guide material and exams will be a breeze. Sapling and flipit homework once a week.
Since UT decided to make upperclassmen take Econ AGAIN even after taking it freshman year, this is my second class with Kenneth, and I wouldn't take this class with anyone else. He is intelligent, hilarious, HE GIGGLES CONSTANTLY, and he is all around excited about Economics, the most boring subject ever. Take him. Have fun. Get your easy A.
Seriously UT? another ECON course? At least it's with Baker! This dude is awesome. What a boring subject to teach, but he makes a trip out of it. 10/10 don't take anyone else. STUDY THE STUDY GUIDE A
Ken was a great teacher! Econ is a boring subject, so don't expect it to be a very interesting class. This class is an easy A. Study the practice exams before the tests and you should ace every one. 70% of clickers get you a 100 for participation. Don't skip class because the clickers will kill your grade if you don't do well.
This class is easy and basically just a recap of Econ 201. Really boring to sit through, but an easy A and Ken tries to make it as entertaining as possible.
Ken Baker is the king of Economics. Best there is. Go to class, review his practice exams, that's all there is to it. He's straight to the point; just do what is asked and you'll be fine.
Professor Baker is great! I honestly have no interest in economics but he made it way more exciting and tolerable. I took this as an online course and he was the most involved online professor I've ever had with recorded interactive lectures and zoom conferences. Also lots of extra credit opportunities so that's nice! Really glad I had Dr. Baker!
Ken is a great guy; however, his lectures are often dreadfully boring. He (usually) "adjusts" grades at the end of the semester (i.e. I received a 95 on a final in which I probably deserved a 75 at best). Easy A if you show up and give an ounce of effort.
Ken is all around a really good professor. I dont find his class the easiest but thats bc of the content not his teaching abilities. Hes very good at explaining things and is willing to help outside of class. Homework is very consistent & not overwhelming but its important to do well on it!! Tests are a lot of info, but he gives a lot of help!
Attendance based off clicker questions, you only need 70% of clicker questions correct to get 100% in the participation category. Really easy if you show up and take notes.
Awesome, such a great professor so clear on what he expects!! Took this class over the summer online and it was SO easy and straightforward, highly recommend
Ken Baker is a dream boat. Guy cares about his students and their success, and will do anything in his power to help you succeed. Dorky guy who loves Econ and makes the class understandable and digestable! Also, he keeps having kids, so if you have him, always check in to see if he has another on the way!
Ken is a super stand up guy! Teaches really well! If you go to class & pay attention, do the clickers, and try hard on the homeworks then you've got an easy A. I slacked off on the homeworks and it cost me.
This class is super easy. Test are like the practice exam and everything missed in the notes can be found in the textbook.
Mr. Baker is such a great teacher. i dont understand econ that well so it is a little harder for me. You dont technically have to go to class but the clickers really help and once you received all your points the rest is basically just extra to help your grade. definitely do the homework and the pct bc those impact your grade as well!
One of the nicest people you'll meet. He does his best to be unbiased in a class that references the current economy frequently. The study guides are exactly like the exam, so the tests are easy. However, you can actually learn a lot in this course if you are interested in learning.
Baker was amazing! Probably one of the best instructors I've had at UT. He's super laid back and he makes the matierial so easy to understand. He is also very easy to approach and wants to help students.
I absolutely loved Ken! His lectures were interesting and you could tell he was passionate about what he was teaching. He is hilarious and very approachable. He wants to make sure you actually understand the material and are not just trying to memorize information. 10/10 professor. Definitely wish I would've taken him for 211 and 213!
Dr. Baker is a great lecturer. Attendance is not mandatory to pass, but I recommend going to class, as he does do clickers every lecture. If you pay attention, take good notes, and review the study guide before exams, you should be able to pass fine.
Great lecturer. He is one of the few professors who actually teaches rather than regurgitate information from a powerpoint. The class has a lot of content and hard concepts, but he does a great job at explaining things and will do anything to help you succeed.
He's a really good guy. Makes Econ as exciting as possible. Econ is just econ so it is going to be hard. But Ken is a really good professor. Gives you study guides with the key before each exam.
Ken is a great guy who really cares about teaching the class. I thought he was pretty funny sometimes too. The class isn't exactly easy, but he tries his best to make it interesting. Just do the work and study a little and you'll be fine. Definitely recommend him if you have to take econ.
Baker is a great professor. He is so funny and caring, and he REALLY wants his students to succeed. The class kinda sucks, but that is expected of an ECON class. His tests are almost identical to the study guides, and he takes clicker attendance daily. When I met with him outside of class, he was always so excited to help me understand material.
Mr. Baker is an awesome professor, it's just that Economics is a tough class in general. Tests are very similar to practice problems, and clicker questions are each class. The online homework can be frustrating, but doable. He really tries to help each student that comes to him needing help. Also drops a lowest test, which is really nice. Great guy
Baker gives notes via the PowerPoint format. Usually you can print and fill in the blank; however, I just took paper notes. The different parts of the class that were graded make it so if you put in the effort you can make an A. Most exam questions are on the study guide. I reviewed the study guide material posted and made a 93, 95, and a 98.
Ken is a genuinely good guy who looks out for his students even though he has hundreds unlike a lot of people (Latonya Jordan). He does his best to try and help everyone succeed and I am so glad I took his class. Fantastic guy all around.
So funny, charming, helpful and enthusiastic. If youre having a bad day, hes there to keep you laughing! Such a great person and cares about students; will explain any confusion. His tests are a bit hard but if you study youll do great!
I took Sims for econ 211 and then Baker for econ213 and I prefer him over Sims. I went to every class and made sure to print out the powerpoint notes so I could fill them in as he went through them. He is hilarious and keeps your attention making it easier to show up. His tests are VERY similar to his study guides/practice tests that he posts.
Ken is a super great lecturer and is hilarious but the class was more difficult than I had anticipated. Having a chegg account will definitely help you with the difficult Homeworks though.
Dr. Baker will do everything he can to help you succeed. He also made the class very entertaining. Overall, a great professor.
How I wish every professor was. Goes above and beyond to help his students succeed and gives a ton of resources to study for exams. Make sure to understand the practice exams and you'll be fine on the real ones. The class itself is pretty relevant and interesting, but some of the concepts are complex. Overall kind and caring professor.
Dr. Baker is super cool and so nice! You can tell her really cares about his students. Lots of dad jokes too lol.
Loved taking Baker so far for econ 213. His lectures are good and understandable, he doesnt ramble on. He lets us use 1 side page of notes on exams too. Done well with the class being all online- posts lecture videos and has a clear structure to the class and what we need to be doing weekly. Which has been nice. Tests really arent bad either!
This class was mostly prerecorded lectures because of COVID so idk what he's like in a class room, but his lectures were interesting (a bit long), but it is clear he enjoys the material he teaches. Allows a notes page on exams which is super helpful and you exams are weighted differently based on how well you do on them.
Dr. Baker is a great professor. Truly cared about us learning stuff in this class and is pretty funny. Lectures and the book can be boring at times, but the material is pretty easy. If you put in the effort to finish assignments on time and study a bit for the exams, you'll do good.
Honestly one of the best professors at UTK. He is really fast answering and a really nice person. He teaches really good and is one of the sweetest people ever. If you listen to his lectures and do the homework and study, you will do fine in this class, if you're a more lazier person though, you wont pass.
Dr. Baker is honestly one of the sweetest professors you will ever meet. He genuinely cares about the success of his students & does a great job of preparing us for exams. If you take notes during the lecture videos & review the practice exams this class will be an easy A. He also allows a page of notes during exams!
Ken is a great choice if you are considering taking this class. He created a learning environment that is flexible and manageable. Lectures can run a bit long on occasion, but they are interesting. Go to the review sessions and do the practice test and you will be set for the exams. Great understanding of econ and is willing to help you out.
Kenneth Baker is one of the nicest teachers I've ever had. He is super understanding, gives extra credit here and then, and clearly cares about his students. There are clicker points in each class, and his class is super lecture heavy. The only part of his class that I don't like is the amount of notes. Take him! I'm so glad I did.
Baker is an AMAZING instructor and my favorite so far at UTK. He breaks down the content and uses comical examples that are easy to recall come exam time. He also goes out of his way to meet with you if you are unable to make it to office hours. You MUST go to class, but it can help you because if you get over 70% participation you get extra credit
Prof. Baker is great. His lectures are both interesting and helpful. You definitely need to go to class, especially for the graded clicker questions, but those are also a great opportunity for extra credit. His tests aren't terrible, but not super easy either. He responds to emails pretty quickly.
Professor Baker was an amazing instructor. I took him in the winter mini-term this year. It went fast, but he was very responsive and helpful despite our time crunch. I bet the class is even better in a regular semester. He isn't a tough grader at all. There are quite a bit of assignments, but if you study at least a little you will be fine.
baker is a really great professor. he's good at contextualizing the concepts in economics to modern-day events, especially with all the covid stuff. he's really understanding and flexible and is very accessible outside of class.
I would definitely take Sims over Baker. He is a great guy, but Sims' class is a lot easier. It won't be too hard to get an A in the class, but as someone who finds no interest in econ, I didn't enjoy the class. Bakers' exams are 50 questions in person at AMB meanwhile Sims' exams are online and have 35 questions. She also curves twice the amount.
Dr. Baker gives great lectures and drops so many quizzes, plus a test. I highly recommend taking Dr. Baker.
Lecture is so boring but Professor Baker knows what he is talking about and his tests are passable
Easy class but his lectures are so boring and he talks too much/ over explains. weekly reading quizzes from textbook. manageable workload and tests are not too difficult. drops alot of your lowest grades so its easy to get an A.
Dr. baker is such a good Econ professor!!! His lectures are engaging because he is funny and genuinely wants us to learn about Economics. Lowest exam is dropped, multiple lowest quizzes dropped, and some extra credit as well. I have loved his class and done way better than I expected to do!
Ken Baker is a great professor. I encourage all to take him if they get the chance.
I honestly do not understand the hype behind Professor Baker. His lectures are extremely long and boring. He is one of those professors that makes the practice tests 10x easier than the real tests, so you are not prepared. You have GRL quizzes due every week that are very very hard. The exams are very challenging, even after studying for hours.
Dr Baker is Easily the BEST Econ Professor Ive ever ever had. Hes so hilarious at times in class and such a goofy personality that makes my day a whole lot better plus laughing at it all the time. Hes so easy to get along with and super accessible outside of class. Definitely a must take. Going to miss him as my professor.
Baker is hilarious, amazing, and helpful. Lectures are great, and exams are fairly easy. I mean I do not need to complement him a lot. he already got a 5 in rate my professor out of more than 300 students. This shows his successful job. The only issue I would mention about him is that he spends the first 10 mins of class going through announcements
Professor Baker is all you can ask for in a professor. He is able to teach course material in ways that make it easily understandable. He is always so quick to reply to emails, help out in office hours and more. Baker is a great teacher, he makes class funny and possible for anyone. Show up to class, take notes and you will receive a good grade.
The class is not that bad. If you half way pay attention you will get a good grade. He lets you use cheat sheets for exams so those help a lot. I ended up with an A and did not feel like I had to try that hard. The labs are helpful too, and the lab instructors were nice and willing to work through harder concepts.
I loved Dr. Baker! He was awesome- really. His lectures are not boring even though his classes are huge. Super accommodating, does review sessions before tests, and is overall hilarious. Please consider his class. Even though I'm in STEM, he made me consider switching to Haslam!
This class kind of sucked to sit through, but was fairly easy to pass and get a good grade. He was fairly boring and kind of hard to follow, but if you did studying the night before and made a decent cheat sheet you were fine, especially with the curve he gives. Overall he is a nice guy and pretty easy to pass, even in a large setting.
I took Econ201 over the summer and Dr. Baker was always helpful. He sent out notification messages to keep us on track and had workshops to discuss the material live. The exams were super easy as long as you do the study guide. 10/10 nice professor who cares about teaching.
Dr. Baker was great, he made the course content very digestible and interesting. He was always willing to answer questions mid-lecture as well as after class. I couldn't recommend him more.
Dr. Baker is great at making this class understandable for non-business/econ majors. This material was difficult for me but his lecture videos, reading, and lab classes made it a lot easier. The exams were online proctored and you had a one-sided sheet. The reading quizzes were quite difficult but 4 were dropped.
He was super funny in class and gave very relatable and enjoyable examples. All the exams were curved and he made this class very enjoyable.
Ken is awesome. He is very understanding and willing to work with you. He is passionate and funny during class. He doesn't assign much work, but will sometimes have easy pop quizzes for attendance.
Professor Baker was a super nice guy and he enjoys what he teaches. He provided lots of Canvas reminders and announcements. The exam review sessions were helpful. However, the auditorium classroom setting was not helpful at all and it was difficult to ask questions in class.
love him! really funny and you can tell he likes teaching the class. do all of the homework and pre-class assignments!!! exams are tough but if you show up to class and take notes you should be fine.
He is a great person and great professor. He really cares about his students and posts recorded lectures on canvas. His exams aren't too difficult, especially since we are allowed to have a cheat sheet. Highly recommend.
Kenneth is a fantastic teacher who obviously puts his students over everything. He goes out of his way to ensure you understand the material, scheduling out-of-class Zooms and meeting one-on-one with students. He is incredibly funny and will try his best to help you succeed no matter how you're doing in the class. Take him if you can.
Awesome econ professor. He provides clear notes pages, records his lectures, and reviews for each exam. Most exams are curved, and you can get extra credit from the clicker questions. Highly recommend!
I found macroeconomics to be more difficult for me than micro, but anyone should be able to get a good grade in this class if you show up to class, complete the PCTs and HWs, and study the review material before exams. Professor Baker is a really nice guy, and gives LOTS of extra credit through clicker participation points and he curves exams.
Ken was a great professor for an asynchronous class! Lecture videos were given for each module and were about 1 hour long. The homework's were pretty straight forward, and the tests were very similar. On the exam, you can have a sheet of notes, a piece of scratch paper, and any calculator that doesn't use the internet.
Professor Baker is the best! His online lectures took some time, but he was great at explaining things and completely willing to help out. He also drops a lot of your lowest grades in various classes which is so nice. Would 10/10 take again.
This class was relatively tricky for me simply because I struggle with Economics, but it was not tricky per se to get an A and Dr. Baker was super helpful and understanding. Everything was online except a mandatory attendance Friday discussion where a TA gave you all of the answers to the Friday assignment.
Professor Baker is a very kind person, and he really cares about his students. The only negative I have is that he goes pretty slow during his lectures and gets behind in material. Besides that aspect, there is only one homework per chapter, so the workload is very light. His exams can be tough, but he provides excellent review material.
A great professor and real easy to be around. He explains the material well and it's not hard to comprehend. The lectures can be boring and a little repetitive but the class is not hard. If you take notes as he's going along and put forth some effort you'll do just fine.
Dr. Baker makes Econ so easy to understand and is very understanding with his students. He cares about their success and is very easy to reach for extra help, and his TA-instructed labs are always helpful. He is an amazing professor and I encourage you to enroll in his class
Professor Baker was an amazing Econ professor! He made the class very easy to follow and always provided extra help. All of his lectures are posted, lab recordings, and even review zooms are readily available throughout the year. He is welcoming and provides students more than enough resources to succeed. I would 100% recommend this class to anyone
Loved this class! Ken made the class so enjoyable with his lectures. Everything is recorded and posted. I recommend attending the class as much as possible because, at the end of the day, the clickers boost your grade so much which is so nice. Homework is easy, exams are difficult but manageable.
Dr. Baker is an amazing professor! I am going to be honest did not like this type of material and the work was boring. But, if you enjoy Econ and are majoring in it I do not see you having a problem with this class. I recommend taking him as a professor if this class is necessary. He is always there for you if you need him!
I loved this class! There was a lot of material, but he did a great job explaining it! The in person labs were mandatory, but they were very helpful. Dr. Baker's expectations are very clear and he really does want all his students to do well.
This class is simple. All homework can be completed by using the information from the textbook and the exams were very easy. On top of that, a bunch of homeworks are dropped and the exams are curved an unnecessary amount.
Amazing professor! Bit of course work but manageable and he drops quite a bit at the end and curves. Always replied to emails fast and cares for his students!
He was so awesome and broke a tough concept down into very digestable lectures! Economics is not my best area, but he was always willing to help me outside of class and give me extra resources. He truly cares for his students and is a great professor! Definitely recommend him, however, prepare of lots of homework assignments and very long tests
Ken's the best! It's an easy class but he makes great lectures and it's not too stressful with how it's set up as an online class. He breaks the units down and the TA I had was great with clarifying material too. The exams don't have anything unexpected and Ken wrote the textbook so you don't really have to read it if you watch the lectures.
One of the most laid back professors I've ever had. Breaks down the content really well and his exams and quizzes are super fair. Definitely made Econ a lot easier!
Professor Baker was wonderful! He made class entertaining and really cares about his students. Definitely take him!!
Greatest Professor of all time. Better than any I have had in University. Always willing to work with you, completely and fully teaches the material. Try to take him in a smaller class because he is a great person. Genuinely cares about his students. One hundred percent would take him again.
Ken is one of my favorite professors at this university. He engages the class and is very personable. I looked forward to going to his class and he records all of his lectures incase you have to miss class. Attendance is required because his exams are based solely off the class content and not the textbook or homework.
I loved him so so much he was funny and recorded every lecture so if you miss class it would be fine. He does a lot of clickers each class with the app and if you get 70% of them then you get full credit for the attendance category.
I loved this class! Professor Baker was so kind and helpful throughout the course. This is a great class for those interested in Econ beyond high school material.
Professor Baker makes ECON213 engaging with recorded lectures and clicker questions. While exams are challenging, unstuckstudy ai helped me prepare effectively. Highly recommend this class!
If you want to ponder if Snuggies are blankets or robes, then Ken is your guy! Does he have a quirky sense of humor? Yes. Is he an excellent teacher? Yes. Are his review sessions two hours long? Yes, watch on 2x speed. Should you take Ken? Yes, yes you should. Can you feel the Kenergy? He's just Ken, and for me, he's a 10.
He is very caring and an easy grader.
Not a bad teacher, very flexible online class. Explained things very well and gave a good amount of extra credit. He also dropped the lowest exam grade, which helped my grade a lot. Very nice guy as well. Highly recommend
This class is super easy but is a pretty large work load. Baker drops a lot of grades act the end of the semester though so it's okay to slip on a couple of assignments. You get a cheat sheet on all of the exams which is very helpful. I 100% recommend him for this class especially if you have no econ background/interest.
Prof. Baker was great! I had to take this course for a vol core, but I actually ended up learning a lot from it. The lectures and quizzes were pretty manageable, and the exams were not difficult. He provided practice questions for each test, which was always helpful. He is very nice and from what I could tell, genuinely cares about his students.
The best professor I've had at UTK! Super knowledgeable and caring. I did poorly on all of the tests except the last one and still ended with an A as he provides buffer grades such as homework, clickers, and learning labs. He allows a cheat sheet for each exam, but exams are on Proctorio.
Ken Baker is an absolute chiller. Savvy use of technology, examples, and brings a positive attitude that I looked forward to every class. If the US economy was managed by him, we would probably never have inflation or recession again. My world was transformed by this class and so should yours. Take this class for a great professor and easy A.
The nature of this class is very boring because of its simplicity. Baker adds his own style into teaching keeping me engaged and uses a lot of pop culture references. He offers so much grade padding, dropping 4 of the lowest quizzes, and lowest exam. He records all of his lectures with the notes & all exams are online, even the final. GPA booster!
Loved this professor! Lectures were clear and engaging, and he was always easy to reach. He knew every student by name and truly cared about us. There were pop quizzes but they weren't too difficult and the 3 exams were fair with cheat sheets allowed. One of the best I've had!
I absolutely love Ken. Great lectures, and he truly cares about teaching us a sometimes boring topic. The class isn't very hard, but the topics are worth understanding. I would absolutely take him if you have the chance.
First off, he wrote the textbook for the class (he couldn't find one he liked), and it was a fun presentation of the material. There are a lot of readings and notes. The content was fairly simple to understand, and Ken did a great job explaining it all to everyone. Just set reminders, and you'll easily pass with a B or higher. Exams are open note
Ken was a great professor and actually made economics interesting. The class was very straight forward. He does a few drops for homework quizzes too so that was helpful. He's funny and makes the lectures not so boring.
Not a huge economics guy so I'll try to take my bias out of this review, with that said, Baker was pretty awesome. Super easy to reach out, grading criteria was clear, and the lectures were decent. Unless you had an iPad or were doing notes on paper, note taking in lectures was difficult with the way the slides were formatted.
Ken was such a great professor. Each class was mostly just a lecture but as long as you take notes you'll do fine on the exams. Throughout the semester there are 3 exams but you get a one sided sheet typed or handwritten sheet of notes. His exams are only from what he teaches not from the textbook. Would highly recommend!!
I loved Prof Baker. I took his online Econ 201 classes over the summer term. He is very organized and flexible with his students schedule when it comes to exams. There is work due every day for the summer course, but it is very manageable if you put the work into it. His lectures are good, and he makes examples understandable and fun.
He is the best! Made honors econ pretty easy. So kind and wants you to succeed. Tests are worth a lot but his review sessions are super helpful. You have weekly achieve homework that is kind of annoying but not hard at all. Would def recommend, especially for an honors econ course if you need that! I would def take him again.
He was honestly so great and such a burst of energy on days when i needed it the most. He's very understanding when it comes to late assignments and opening things back up for you. Overall great professor and it's refreshing to see that teachers like him still exist.
Great professor! He made lectures interesting and due to class structure, you have the option to just be online and watch his zoom classes every time and get the clicker points. Need 70% of attendance points to pass (about 7 absences). Quizzes can be difficult but just study the study material and you're good. Would take this course with him again.
Easy online class that's mostly busy work. Zoom sessions were every few weeks so you didn't see Dr. Baker much.
He is an amazing professor and actually cares that you understand the material and wrote the textbook himself. The class is a pretty easy A online and the content is very easy to understand.
Dr. Baker is a great professor! Even though this class is all through videos and textbook outside the labs, Dr. Baker still made an effort to make sure he was accessible and involved. Lectures were easy to understand (he wrote the textbook), and exams were fair and easy to ace if you do the review. Definitely your best bet for Econ 201!
ECON207: Always answered emails soon, great lectures (no notes posted online), nothing really bad to say about him at all, straightforward exams (more context than calculation focused), lots of online homework but they are pretty easy.
