Great Math teacher! Very helpful & explains each concept wonderfully! just make sure u check mathxl constantly for homework!
He is a very helpful guy. He really wants you to understand the material and will do anything he can to help. His tests and quizzes aren't easy, he really makes you think sometimes. He wants you to actually understand things rather than just memorize formulas and such. In class I think he can go a little too slow but overall a great teacher!
He is a great teacher. If you ever need help he will help you out. Loved the way he taught us. Lots of examples. Overall geat teacher!
If you struggle understanding math, this guy is not for you. Math comes to him very easily, and he seems to have a hard time understanding why you don't get it as fast as him. He's real young, and can treat his students as if they're still in grade school. Good intentions, but if you need a teacher that can work on your level, look elsewhere.
He doesn't really say anything that you can't get just by reading the book. In fact, the book probably explains things even better than he does.It would be perfect if I could chill at a coffee shop and read the textbook instead of going to class, but he has moderately strict attendance policies...
He's okay. Isn't very helpful tho. If you have a question about the homework he won't answer it a lot of the time because there isn't time in class. He's very particular about everything
Awful teacher. Dont take his class. Not a single person in my class right now understands what the hell the guy is talking about half of the time. He literally will walk into class, hand out a worksheet, and then he tell us to, "use our minds." and figure it out on our own. Ridiculous teacher.
Not a very great teacher!I am not very good at math and when I am confused he isnt good at helping out. Class always runs late and he constantly just wants to keep pushing more and more onto us when we are already confused. Tests have a ridiculous amount of work on them for the time we are given and he wants english essays on them!!
Horrible teacher. He expects everyone to learn at a very fast pace. He also made Math Xl harder by taking away the view an example tool which Is UNIMAGINABLY valuably because he dosent help you learn much in class. His Tests and exams are hard, and his office hours suck. I recommend D. Kernler instead for any math class.
He was easy for me, but it's only because I already knew the material he taught me. But certain things that I didn't understand did not get cleared up very well. He'll help you to the best of his ability. He was an okay teacher, but I wouldn't recommend him.
I took this teacher for one class. Worst decision ever. His lectures are difficult to follow and his homework is way too much.
Mr. B's prides himself on how his students know why each formula works and where it came from. He drug us through so much theory, we got behind. And instead of learning how to solve differential equations, I was memorizing how to prove each formula. Lots of homework, too. I spent 10 hours a week on homework for a 3 cr class. But he knows his math.
Unhelpful, uncaring. Very disorganized, homework was extremely long. Spent so much time on theory and would get lost himself. Office hours were worthless as he told you to do it yourself. Very picky about little details. If you didn't staple homework he didn't accept it.
Treats the class like children and rushes through examples not explaining anything. Constantly puches more and more material on class that is obviously bewildered which he is somehow oblivious to. Went to office hours and was litterally told that he didn't have time for me right now. Assigns way too much hw that has nothing to do with the material.
I found him to be very helpful and clear when explaining problems, He wouldnt assign homework sections that were not practiced in class. Overall he was very clear and makes sure you understand the work!
If you go to class and pay attention, instead of texting, then you will get ready for college level math claes.
Very unhelpful, keeps adding more material to the already bulk of notes. Spends all class time on theory and barely any example problems, very precise on how homework is completed and turned in. Office hours are extensive but wants you to figure it out on your own and not help. Definitely wouldn't reccommend.
Good understanding of math. Makes you take a billion notes, quizzes and tests are impossible. Highest test score was a 78%.
Although he does treat the class like children at times, he is a nice person. With that said he is extremely picky about how to complete the homework, and tests are pretty hard. Goes over alot of theory in class and not many examples, an OK teacher but you have to be good at calc to survive
Very specific on how homework is done, even what paper and how to fill it all out. Goes over the theory of the concept for most of the class, and doesn't do many examples, very unhelpful even during his office hours, don't recommend.
The worst professor I've ever had. He doesn't explain anything and the tests have concepts we haven't learned yet. If you don't memorize every single theorem, you can fail a test made of all correct answers.
This is the worst math class i have ever taken. The teacher makes up his own math problems and does not teach the class at all. Most students are lost and when they are he tells them to look to their classmates for help. Which is no help. If this class is taken with him, please beware you will regret it. You will not learn anything at all. Pray!!!!
Horrible teacher. You will have to do projects where finding the right answer is based on math you haven't learned yet. Your grade depends on getting the right answer using math you don't know. Then he forces you to meet with him outside of class to check your rough draft. If he detects that you are at all confused you only get HALF CREDIT.
Mr. Beynon is not a good teacher. He gets a thrill out of watching students fail and he likes to see them struggle. He will not help and assigns work before you get a chance to go over it. Please do not take him ever. You will regret it. He does not teach and he makes up work from his head or with his brother. (real life situations.) dont take him
Terrible teacher. We had to correct his mistakes on examples he was trying to explain to us. Not a fair grader either. Do not take him!
He gave up at the end of the year and went so fast through the "teaching" of the material that everyone struggled to write down all the symbols and numbers he wrote, then erased for no reason immediately after. He doesn't explain ANYTHING anymore. Do not take him if you value your education.
I don't get all the hate. I'm not a math person per se and I got an A. He is big on concepts and being able to write about those concepts. He's a nice guy and was always helpful to. Always offers ext-ra credit for exam corrections. Look - if you've been in a calc class for 2 months and you can't use the chain rule that's on you, not the teacher.
I don't see why they don't like him. i was in his class, and got a B. I suck at math, but he helped me out a ton. just work hard and you will pass.
If you want to regurgitate information like a little robot, do not take this class. He makes you use your head and actually tries to connect math to the real world. He's a great teacher and if you actually ask him for help, he will help you.
MR. Beynon is an excellent teacher. One of the best I've ever had. He cares about what we actually understand and focuses on concepts. Not just memorization. His tests are hard but he is a fair grader and gives extra credit.
Mr. Beynon is the only math teacher I've ever had that actually cares about what I learn and wants me to remember and use it. He was tough but I feel like I'm better prepared for my next math class.
Hands down, he is the best math teacher I've ever had. He actually made math interesting for the first time. His tests can be hard, but he let us correct them for extra credit.
Mr B is great! He's funny and and keeps class interesting. I would recomend him. Gives extra credit.
Mr.B was AMAZING! I loved coming to class everyday. He explains things very well, made it very easy for me to catch on to the material. I struggled with math until I took his class, he makes sure you understand the chapter/section before moving on. GREAT TEACHER!! If I could I would take him for every math class!! (:
Beynon is a great dude, he explains everything very clearly and at the end of every topic he asks if we have any questions. He only wants us to succeed and if I got a C, that was my own fault.
Mr. Beynon moves way too fast and doesn't accurately teach the information needed for his quizzes, projects, and homework. Mr. Beynon gives out a lot of homework. He expects way too much for the little bit of information he teaches us in class. Overall he's a nice guy, but a terrible teacher.
Mr. B is a great teacher! He is super understanding! He makes the class interesting and he's corky and funny! Calc is a hard subject but he knows exactly how to explain it. Would definitely take another class with him!
He's good at explaining the concepts and will help if you see him during office hours. He prints the notes out for everyone, no notebook needed. You need the textbook for homework (lots of hw). Quizzes are just examples from the notes. Test corrections for extra credit. He treats everyone like kids, but I guess that just makes it easier to learn.
Lectures are very well organized. Was my favorite class. His projects are hard, but he helps a lot in understanding and finishing them.
Tests you over concepts all the time, so you must understand what you are doing. He gives his own notes to you in class which are very helpful. Quizzes weekly. Gave 2 group projects during the semester, first one was doable. The second was just a massacre. You must understand all the concepts to do well. As a teacher though, very helpful and clear
tough and specific grader. willing to help but is usually busy so you need to go to his office hours. lots of homework that can be very different from lecture so make the work look good and he'll give completion grades basically after the first few weeks. assigns really intricate PAPERS (in a math class -_-). no online homework which is good
I took a basic college algebra course with him but it felt like advanced calculus. A years worth of material is crammed into one semester. Classes were rushed. Problems worked on in class sometimes weren't fully explained to save time. If you get stuck on a section, catching up is difficult. Some quizzes did not accurately reflect what was covered.
Mr. B is a good teacher, he is very easy to understand an explains the material well. Don't miss any test because you wont be able to make them up even if your dying. He's not flexible on any rules what so ever but if you do whats asked and study you will get a high grade.
Okay, never have I ever had the urge to "rate a professor" but people need to know that he is not a good teacher. He moves way too fast in class. He rushes lectures. He doesn't even grade projects he assigns. If you struggle in math and need help outside of class. Don't bother, he'll just make you feel stupid and watch you fail. Don't take him!
DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS!! He rushed through material and said we don't have time. Doesn't help, makes you ask your surroundings classmates or gives you a clue on how to do it but your still confused. The tests are hard and you only get one or two example problems from each lesson which makes you have to teach yourself. Don't waste your money!
Gives very hard projects that make it hard to study for the test because they are all due around the same time. I would not take another math course with him. Test are very hard.
Good teacher, demanding but fair and always willing to help. Good sense of humor, tries to make class engaging but YMMV. Tests are tough but gives plenty of quizzes and a few projects so your grade won't be entirely dependent on the test. Likes to go DEEP into math topics. Great teacher if you like math.
He tries to squeeze in a lot of material in a short amount of time. But he is an overall great teacher. Picky and demanding, but fair and helpful. I only recommend him if you already have a good amount of understanding for math.
Mr. B is a great teacher! His tests were tough, but he gives extra credit. He always made an extra effort to help me whenever I needed it.
Worst math teacher at ECC. DO NOT TAKE MATH WITH THIS TEACHER! His notes are awful, he will annoy you with his "i want everything to be perfect" style and his exams are completely different than what he goes over in class.
Mr. B is an awesome teacher. He is very tough, but I feel like I learned more in his class than any other math class I've ever taken. Tries to be funny but fails.
I never knew my grade in class and he would never have a clear answer when questioned on a problem. If you needed help, you had to ask the person next to you which was pointless. He made me hate math due to his pointless projects (which he graded on the last day of class) and the way he would knock off points from everyone if they had a phone out.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS! He's one of the worst math teachers I've ever had in my schooling career. I understand the class I took was alittle sped up but he crams 3 sections of work a day, not only that but teaches it and moves on then every Thursday u have a quiz that you don't know crap about and end up failing. Pick a better teacher!
I had never felt the need to rate a professor before, until now. He is the WORST Math teacher I have ever had in my entire school career. He doesn't teach the class anything, ever. He expects us to work together and figure out the problems amongst ourselves. He does not give any sort of lectures. DO DONT TAKE THIS TEACHER! YOU WILL NOT LEARN!
Doesn't know how to teach the information to the students, there were a lot of outside learning. Projects are extremely hard, he gives a lot of time to finish them, but you can't even start till two week before it's due because we haven't learn the material yet. Quizzes and Exams are directly from the review, but are hard questions.
If you want a teacher that doesn't actually teach then choose him for your math class. All work done in class is group work, he refuses to help you if you don't ask your group first. He never teaches the class he will very rarely go up to the board to help. He'll walk up behind you tell you your wrong and then he'll leave, wont help you.
Professor Beynon is very clear in his lectures. He gives you a packet and then works on it on the Promethean, so you follow along. He always asks if anyone has any questions so everyone can be on the same page. If you want to talk to him for extra help, make sure you let him know and he will definitely assist you. Would definitely take him again!
DO NOT TAKE HIM! I am person who loves math but his lectures were extremely confusing, he gives a lot of information in just one class and he does not explain anything. He always asks you to ask your classmates first once again... DO NOT TAKE HIM.
He is a very charismatic professor. Trig can be a bit tricky, but he explains the material in a way that makes it understandable. If you don't get it, he is more than willing to help. He doesn't baby his students, so you have to be independent and disciplined. It definitely is a course that requires effort. If you study and work hard, you WILL pass
I'm not sure why there is so many negative reviews for Mr. Beynon. If you hate math maybe put in some effort and you'll see that there is a lot to appreciate, and he has a lot of interesting knowledge to share! If you enjoy math then you are in luck because he knows how to explain the concepts at a very deep level. I wish more professors were...
Professor B is a great teacher. He knows his stuff and is really helpful. He assigns projects which are difficult, but you can work in a group so that makes it a little easier. He's funny in a nerdy way and passionate about math which made math class a bit better for me. I definitely recommend him.
Don't get me wrong, Professor Beynon is a nice guy and all, but has insanely unrealistic expectations for his students. He doesn't answer questions, and assigns extremely difficult projects that would even challenge current engineers. Do yourself a favor and don't take Calculus with him.
Lectures are well prepared. Guided notes are given and very well layed out. He gives 2 projects throughout the semester that are extremely rigorous, but if you get help from the tutoring center they are manageable. Biggest complaint would be asking for obscure proofs on exams/quizzes. Overall, a good professor who cares about his job and students.
the curriculum is laid out in advance and updated regularly so it is clear what is expected to get the grade you want. he was extremely helpful, always had a positive attitude. does a lot of group/projects, so be ready for that. im not huge on group work but it was a good experience. very nice guy, great at teaching and loves what he does.
The group projects involved concepts we hadnt learned and he will fail you on a test or quiz if your explanation on what you were doing didnt have a rigorous mathematical terminology that only he uses. I went to the math lab at one point and they told me they couldnt help me with the definitions and explanations because only he does that.
He is the most stuck up teacher I have ever had, do yourself a favor and don't take this class because god forbid you get sick and use up your absences. He is repeatedly mean and sets unrealistic expectations for students. He assigns hard projects and claims that it's ok because he gives a lot of time but he doesnt show us how to do it till its due
Professor Beynon gives guided notes for lectures but only covered 1/2 during his lectures. He focuses on math definitions not examples. He assigns group projects but, doesnt cover the information the lecture. Prepare to meet with him outside of class to be successful and use khan academy. More then anything dont take his class.
Do not take this professor for math. Lectures are partially explained and teach contrary to the textbook. Math projects are highly important, you must see him almost everyday to get some vague feedback, that doesn't help explain the project. Even the tutoring center could not help with problems. Save yourself from unnecessary anxiety.
He gives projects and doesn't explain the concepts on it. And god forbid you don't write a whole essay along with your answer because he will doc multiple points. You also have to use his math terminology or else the answer isn't good enough. For those who need a little extra help in math, do yourself a favor and get a better teacher.
Professor Beynon is a VERY intelligent professor. I have nothing bad to say about his teaching; however, the group projects were not my favorite. I felt I had to teach my less-motivated partner much of the content, which shouldn't have been my responsibility. Otherwise, great teacher and great class. Work hard in his class and you'll succeed.
The teacher himself is a nice guy, but as a professor his class is very difficult. His tests aren't too difficult as you can get extra credit.. The problem is his group projects. They are extremely difficult and I have no idea how anyone completed them. I asked other ECC teachers, students in higher math classes, and no one could help me.
Kenneth provided very few actual lectures for students which means he rarely covered the notes in full. It is expected that you know the material for Thursdays quiz. As far as seeking outside help, don't even bother. If your work is not done by his method, you will receive no credit. Don't take his class if you expect to be taught any material.
I took calculus with this professor and received a B. He was by far the worst professor I have ever had. His notes have many blanks and make zero sense. There are 3 group projects and he grades very heavily and his grading makes no sense. His teaching does not prepare you for the quizzes and the tests. Avoid this professor at all costs!
Nice guy, horrible teacher. You will learn more watching 1 khan academy video than you will in 5 lectures with Beynon. He assigns group projects that are worth 20% of your grade and gives no guidance on how to approach them. Monkeys will enter the industrial age before Beynon learns how to lecture.
Honestly one of the worst professors I have ever had. He unrealistic with his grading. He gives projects that are extremely difficult and no matter how much effort is put into them, you are most likely going to be given a low grade. The lectures make no sense. DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS.
He is not a good professor at all. He provides blank notes and his lectures do not prepare you for the tests and quizzes. There are 3 group projects and there is no possible way of getting an A on them. His grading is unbelievably horrible. No logic at all. I REALLY MEAN IT WHEN I SAY DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. TOXIC CLASS.
Professor Beynon is one of the worst professors you will ever have. He does not explain topics in lectures and most of the time his lectures will be done in 5 minutes. If you ask him to meet for office hours, he will either waste your time or will say that he "isn't available", this happened to me twice. Overall, a very unprofessional teacher.
Prof Beynon didn't even teach the class, he assigned us to watch someone else's videos in order to learn the subject matter. There were several group projects. I was lucky enough to get competent partners to do the projects, but I still ended up doing most of the work.
This man does not TEACH!!!! Yes, he does not give any lectures at all! He doesn't even give you the resources to PASS his quizzes or exams. His group projects are incredibly difficult too! During class, most of the time he ends class early and barely responds to your questions. His lack of faith in our education shows--badly! Please avoid this man.
He is a nice guy, but he is not a good teacher. Some people are naturally born to teach and he is not. If you don't set aside time for his class and get external people to help you, this class will be difficult. Group projects are heavily graded but if you go to office hours and start early it can be done. Take advantage of extra credit!!
He is a terrible teacher do not take if you do not want to be spending extra time on noncalculus topics and irreverent group projects
Great teacher and easy to learn as long as you pay attention during class.
Great professor, just be prepared to have lot's of work which is expected in Calculus but he goes in-depth with topics. Quizzes - easy, not a lot of work, manageable if you're in class, exams - hard, similar to quizzes, & similar to quizzes, Projects - very hard, you'll be in groups with people who are different schedules. Don't miss a day of class
Professor Beynon is a very professional and organized teacher. His schedule always remains consistent throughout the semester. I took him for two semesters so far and I would honestly take him for a third if I could. You can tell he really cares about his students but beware of the projects because they can be very difficult.
Calculus is hard, but Prof. Beynon makes it easier to understand. Math classes are fast paced at ECC, and you will have to study outside of class. Every calc prof in this school will be like that though. prof Beynon is very passionate about the class and he wants you to succeed, but you'll still need to put in effort.
Professor Beynon is an instructor with high expectations. To sum it up, pros: great person, good at teaching, interesting take on math as a whole (he tells you specifically how and why we learn math a certain way); cons: very tough tests and assignments, tough grader
Overall, a very good professor. Tell students exactly what is expected on quizzes and tests. Not the biggest fan of group projects, but if you communicate well with peers you'll get through them. As long as you review notes, quizzes, and exams, this class should not be too difficult.
Go to office hours. Theory heavy lectures. Textbook not used, but you will need it. The projects will feel difficult, obscure, and you will feel a terrible time crunch to do them. AKA, if you're going into engineering, where working on hard, poorly defined problems in a group setting with a deadline is the norm: take Beynon, learn to love it now.
Great Professor. Do the homework problems! Solutions aren't given, but you can go to office hours or work with a group. You need a group for this class that's how you pass. Group projects were tedious; one was easy tho, it depends on your group. Participate please. Super nice prof intimidating by looking at RMP, but it was my favorite class.
Only lets you miss 4 classes/sem. If more missed you will be kicked OR have grade docked 10% per extra class missed after withdrawal deadline. He says this is to treat all absence reasons equally despite being inequitable for those w/ health issues like me. I asked if it'd still count if I was in the ER since I've had that happen and he said yes.
Good instructor, bad teacher - too impartial, no exceptions. Content was great, he graded generously. He wouldn't teach material we needed for the projects until 2 weeks before the due date. Few office hours, very crowded if any. Won't fully answer questions during lectures, crams a lot of content into lectures and got mad if it didn't fit in time
The class is easy, lectures are clear, exams are exact copies of the practice problems given in class. Absolutely horrible man. He told me before a quiz that he had no faith in me and that he expected me to fail. Refused to help people during office hours because he thought they didn't deserve it. Does not care about his students at all.
He will help you if you apply yourself, but he doesn't go over all the material in class, which makes it difficult to prepare for the quizzes and tests he gives. Then, the projects he gives out I feel are unnecessary for the class and are just extra work. What's annoying is that he puts project problems on the test, which are very confusing.
Overall, Beynon is a good teacher for Calc 1. He has an apparent teaching philosophy: He wants you to understand the principles and theories of calculus, and he doesn't rely on tedious algebra to teach you. Also, he lectures clearly. The downside to his class is the projects, they can be quite time-consuming. He's Better than RMF shows.
Honestly one of the hardest teachers you'll have. Projects are unnecessarily hard and all work is super tedious. I wouldn't recommend this teacher to anyone who is taking a full course load. Quizzes every week, 2 get dropped but if you miss the quiz you automatically get a zero.
Good lectures that force you to think mid class but he conveys the concepts well and goes at a great pace. He is also a nice guy with tons of personality. He often gives hints to what will be on the quiz/test and does group quizzes. The diff eq content is quite difficult but he is a generous grader. The group projects are long but interesting.
Prof Beynon does care about teaching his students. However, his group projects are very frustrating. There is little direction on the first two projects, and they will involve material that you haven't learned in class yet. You may have to ask him during office hours. If you consistently go to his office hours, you should be in the A to B range.
I thoroughly enjoyed Professor Beynon. The project materials are taught a little close to the due date, and they are certainly difficult, but they genuinely contributed to how comfortable I was with the course's material. Amazing guided notes, little to no homework, and assessment questions weren't surprising whatsoever. Proof, not theory-heavy.
I just think it is ridiculous how we have to take tests every Monday that is worth 25% of our final grade. If you're absent then no retakes as well. Take this class if you absolutely hate yourself. He reduces marks if we don't do things his way. He overcomplicates Maths. You'll teach yourself better than he ever could. Don't waste your time.
He makes the class much more complicated than it needs to be, he also takes the hardest material and throws you into groups to learn together instead of lecture. the group projects are rough considering he tells you to start working on them weeks in advance however you will not cover the material needed to start the project untill the week its due.
Please don't take this professor if possible. I had the worst time in this class. There is a quiz every single Monday. if you miss 4 classes, he WILL drop you. Projects are excessive, and he will put them on the tests; before every class, I would drive without a seatbelt in hopes I would crash. Please don't take him.
You either love or hate Professor Beynon. If you just want to get your credit and be done, you'll probably hate his class. His teaching will seem excessively rigorous and his projects will seem like pointless extra work. However, if you have a genuine interest in learning math, you'll appreciate his teaching style and come out a stronger student.
if u have an idea of anyone smart, sit next to them, he pairs alot. Come early; do not miss any day, even if you just had a heart attack. his office hours are somewhat helpful, but you actually gotta understand exactly what you don't understand. he mostly gives clues as to what will come out in the quizzes, so you have to listen attentively
Beynon is a decent teacher in my opinion, but there are a lot of weird quirks in his syllabus and material. For one, group projects are a LOT of your grade, and required materials like binder and stuff are part of like 10% of your grade. Quizzes for me were every week, and you could not retake them at all. However, there's no homework, so...
Refused to excuse absences even for good reasons. I have medical issues and he said I couldn't miss more than 3 classes. Grading was absurd. I had an A all semester and needed a 60 on the final to keep it. The final brought me down to a B. Everyone did bad on final because it was hard but refused to take accountability and didn't curve. Avoid him.
Group projects done out of class can your grade. Quized every week(no chapter test), you learn the material the day before every time which is hard to study up on. He hints at things that may be on the test. Hard grader, avoid him unless you are good self teaching. Notes not done in order so it's confusing. You cannot miss class or makeup anything.
Really organized with his way of teaching. Notes are great. Projects can make you understand the topics and their real world application. Great if you really enjoy to learn maths. You need to have a clear understanding of the foundations of maths (properties, factorization, trigonometry). Tough in terms of grading, but it pushes you to work hard.
