The previous comments must have been written by NOT SO SMART people. Caswell is a GREAT teacher! Time flies in his class because he makes everything so easy and really cares about students' success. The course is not easy(and people tend to blame that on teachers) but Caswell is great and has a great sense of humor. Take him! :)

He's not helpful at all. If you ask him a question he just says go to his office hours. Don't really know if he knows what he's talking about. Spends too much time explaining easy stuff rather than hard stuff.

I took his, got an A. The material is extremely broad and it requires you to have a substantial understanding of the material. Dr. Caswell was extremely passionate about the subject and the students that cared about the material. He will spend time with students who want to learn. A word of advice study hard and study smart.

He tells you to concept map if you ask a question previously covered. Other than that, very helpful. STUDY! and you will pass. Knows what he is talking about in Chem for Today. If you are willing to put full effort into the class, i highly recommend him

Your grade will reflect the amount of effort you put into the class. It's definitely not an easy "A" but you can expect an "A" if you put in the time. He's very passionate about what he's teaching and is willing to help. He's a nice guy and good teacher- highly recommended.

He is a decent teacher but he does go off topic A LOT. Pretty easy if you show up and do homework, I did not study for one test and did just fine. BUT!!! he does use concept maps WAY TOO MUCH it is by far the most annoying thing I have done in any class.

Awesome teacher, took him for General Chem I and II and got A's in both. Go to class for clicker points but reading the book should suffice for passing the tests. He gives way more points for wrong clicker questions than other teachers. TAKE HIM!!

I absolutely hated his idea of concept mapping. I found it difficult and harder to learn material than just reading. I have mixed feelings about his teaching style because of that. If not for the curve, I wouldn't have passed his class. He's not a bad professor, but I had tons of trouble and thought he went too fast through material.

Caswell was a GREAT professor. I had virtually no knowledge of chemistry before his class but I managed to pass with an A. If you don't get an A in his class it's your own fault. He is constantly doing review sessions and he is so flexible with his office hours. Definitely recommend him!

IMO, Caswell feigns interest in wanting to help students. In class, he encourages you to succeed and to come to him with questions, but when you do he seems put off. He gets off topic a lot and is theatrical in a distracting way (shuffles & taps his feet to add emphasis). He spent 1 minute talking about REDOX REXNS b/c he got behind in material.

He is a VERY good teacher. Always stops to explain when anyone has trouble. He's very interesting to listen to, you can tell he has a passion for chemistry. Pretty laidback, unless your phone beeps during class, lol. HOWEVER his concepts maps will drive you nuts. Hope for a TA that doesn't use them and you'll be fine.

Dr. Caswell is funny and passionate about chemistry. Don't come to class late, talk while he's talking, or have your phone go off during class, he will give you an evil glare! Overall, it was an easy class. The lectures are mandatory because of the clicker questions but if you just read the book, you will most likely get an A on the tests.

His class isn't easy but going to class helps a lot since clicker points are worth 15% of your grade. Practice the homework problems over and over to prepare for the tests and you'll be fine. Some test questions are harder than what he'll have you study, but as long as you understand the concepts (this is the key) you'll be fine. Would recommend.

Get familiar with your text book because this will be your ONLY means of learning anything (why I rated the book a 5/5). Caswell is a firm believer in "concept mapping" which works ONLY if you teach yourself 99.99% of material before you attend class. Do NOT rely on him to teach you anything. His power point are not very helpful either.

Will NOT take him again. I took intro to Chem with someone else and got an A, took Chem 1 with Caswell and failed for the first time in my entire school career. He is passionate and approachable, but HW is long and unrelated, lectures barely cover the material. He rambles and confuses people. Wants to help, but can't properly relay the material.

Lectures are basic material, to pass must read the book (be book smart) & complete unrelated Mastering Chem. First day he instructed us he will be there if we need him; i emailed him multiple times never received any response & had to confront him many times. You have to beg for anything. Any questions, forget it, he changes the subject, no answer.

Dr. Caswell was a very kind person. He would go out of his way for a student, but he avoid every single question. Tests were ridiculous and the class averages were the lowest I've ever seen for a class. You must show up to class everyday and make sure you do all of your homework. Participation and online homework saved many students this semester.

Great Professor! Really impressed with how much out of class time Prof. Caswell is willing to give to help students understand chemistry. Need to read the material before his lectures or you will quickly fall behind. Four exams, heavy on conceptual questions which I found tricky. Hard class, so I felt lucky to pass.

I took both of Dr. Caswell's Gen classes and just finished Gen Chemistry 2 last Fall. The people who are complaining probably never opened their textbook which you NEED to do in a chemistry course. His tests are difficult, but if you study what you're supposed to they are a piece of cake. Wish I could take these classes again, loved being there.

Dr. Caswell is a great professor and knows a lot about chemistry. If you study the lectures and especially the exam review guides they will be easy. Read the book. This is college, read the chapter before the lecture and the lecture helps connect the dots giving you those "Ah-ha moments". The exams are conceptual, make sure you understand the concept and can apply them. Do not rush on the exams, read each answer and think about it, you have plenty of time. I would take him again, 100%
