good teacher, laid back, easy to talk to.
He was a cool teacher but could be cruel when your opinion didn't agree with his. It was hard to approach him because we butted heads so much.
he aight
First of all, he was pretty cool but he was extremely hard...had harsh things to say if you didn't agree with him..He was always figeting lol but he's pretty hot but overall i didn't pass...i thought i did pretty good but i think he was just being ****...I did mostly all my work though.
he was blunt and straightforward which could offend some students ...but i thought it was an easy class.oh, idk if he does this every semester but he cancled class ALOT which i didn't mind at all because we really didn't much at all during class
Good teacher, and helped me out alot.
at first, i thought i was going to hate chacon's class. but it turned out to be fun. he is a very young teacher and pretty cute:) he helps you out when you need it and is understanding. the only thing i didn't like was that he was kind of unorganized.
prett good
He has his own oppinions and is not open minded for anyone.does not respect others opinions or beliefs.jokes around alot and is inappropriate at all times.
Constructive critisizm should be expected in any eng class however this teacher waits until after an assmnt to teach you what the assmnt was based on. If you disagree with ANY of his beliefs(trust me hes confused)expect a B at very best.DONT TAKE HIM IF YOU ARENT FAMILIAR WITH MLA FORMAT Do not tell him that he is unorganized, just get used to it!
Unorganized, but you just have to get used to it. Not the best English teacher, but it's a hate it or love it class. Inappropriate most of the time. Likes to waste time joking around. Has a short attention span when a student speaks to him. Always gets off topic when teaching. He has his good qualities some days though.
Definitely the worst instructor I have ever had. He talks about things that are not relative to the class and often times very inappropriate. The last straw for me was when he spoke about mexican women marrying white men and how it upsets him. Take any other instructor besides this guy he is very unprofessional and his teaching is scrambled.
UGH I couldnt stand this teacher! I've been a great writer, I always did well on my papers until I had this class- a lot of time wasted, not enough time on MLA FORMAT or how to even write a paper on the eng1a level, we were all so clueless the whole time, and if you disagree with his (confused) beliefs, have fun getting pointed docked!
if you agree with everything he says youll be fine if you dont then dont say it out loud.. he likes to joke around alot(wastes alot of time)he grades really hard, and gets off topic in class.. he is not a good teacher but he does give alot of extra credit..
he talks without thinking. he is really funny but he is really strict about showing up, homework, and participation. he was a good teacher though
He is a great teacher! Definitely the best i have had at city. Although he may act careless, he truly does care about his students and is willing to help if you ask. He is a pretty tough grader but you learn a lot. I enjoyed his class because he has great energy and I like the way he keeps class exciting. Don't take his comments too personal.
He's not easy, take his class if youre interested in working hard. He is funny & is good looking enough to get alot of the women in class to swoon & take him food & goodies.
this teacher is the worst i have ever had. he gets distracted easily and when you email him he does not respond ever. and then he says things really loud when you have something personal to say like he does it on purpose. he also gets distracted and off topic all the time. i regret taking him so bad. worst teacher ever. he only gives out essays...
Great teacher, its sad to see many students take him the wrong way. He will help any student as much as he can. I have taken him three times and is one of my best teachers at all times. Yes he does grade hard, remember we not in high school we in college. he does take attendance seriously and homework, and yes he does get off topic in class but tha
DOPE!! Very cool teacher he will explain how to do things well. Although you must be a good essay writer to take his class, if you are not you are going to have problems. Essays are your grade in the class he usually assigns 4 essays a semester if you do all of them well you will pass this class with no problem.
Is very capable & interesting. If you like challenges, take his class.I got A's everytimne I take him, but I ask for help & turn in everything required. Attendance is important to him. Books are required
prof chacon is passionate about writing. fun to listen to. not neccessarily well read (classics). my pet peeve? interrupts me when i speak in class. is sensitive to caffeine - becomes manic. loves to workshop stories - very fun and helpful process.
he is an awesome teacher, he may get distracted alot and get off topic but he teaches well and will help you learn the topic well
Use his last name correctly, don't giggle when asked to contribute to discussion, don't use cell, be punctual, accept that he has strong opinions on everything and do all assignments. If you do this you'll pass and it won't be boring.
He is a no nonsense kind of teacher. He can come off very strong and even crass at times. He is a good instructor and Knows what he is talking about. Can be quick to judge, at the same time he can be very entertainin
easy class to pass. very funny teacher but he is unorganized and tends to go way off topic
He has very interesting personality, but his disorganzation really was annoying to me. He also gave back assignment late. However, he is willing to help you out, if you are willing to pass the class. Warning: He is straightforward and blunt and does not take any BS from anyone.
Seriously? In college- expect to attend regularly, read, and write papers. That's all this class is. Participation is easy. Just raise your hand and input your ideas and thoughts- no answer is wrong. Easy teacher, ask for help and you get it. Just do the few writing assignments, readings, and be ready to discuss. It's that easy!
Terrible for a once-a-week class. Disorganized, rants and rambles, and ODs on caffeine until manic. You only get 100 points in the entire semester - losing even one is a big deal. Hard grader, opinionated, and won't let you out early (with few exceptions). If you are willing to put up with it and have lots of free time, go for it, otherwise DON'T.
terrible instructor
He is a hard instructor, very blunt and straightforward but is always happy to help. He gives back assignments late but grades them fairly. You literally just read the textbook and attend class to know whats going on. Your grade is based on the essays you write. There are about 4 total and no final exam!Hard at first but youll get use to him :)
Professor Chacon, Is a wonderful instuctor. MAKE SURE to go to class, do all assignments, and their are 4 essays, and no final or tests. He is am instructor that will push you to do your best and if you have any questions don't be afraid to ask. Great class! (:
Phew! His class was difficult, but always interesting. He's super funny. you will end the class with a ton of knowledge and appreciative of all he has taught.
This isn't your average class. I don't take it unless you're serious about writing. Chacon will help you with your craft and will make you laugh along the way. DON'T TAKE HIS COMMENTS IN WORKSHOP PERSONALLY.
Not the most organized, but he puts his heart and soul into teaching. May be the best teacher you have at City.
Mr. Chacon is a very tough instructor. If you want to just breeze by college and learn nothing. Don't take him. If you want to be challenged and learn something, take his classes. Once you pass you will feel so good about it knowing you actually learned something. Don't take him too seriously, because he doesn't. If you do you might be offended.
He's a nice guy but he may not seem like it sometimes. I suggest talking to him after class or in his office for help if you're struggling. Go to class. It's a must to pass
Expect a lot of essays. He came to class in bad moods. Bad vibes in class. Must read book to pass, no exceptions!
He a really cool teacher but don't take him unless you're ready to work.
When you first meet Mr. Chacon, you may think that he's hard, but in reality he is just straight forward. He is willing to help you outside of class if you just ask. Also, participation is a must in his class because that's the only way you will learn.
I think he's a great teacher. He teaches stuff that no other teacher taught me before, but he dos grade hard. If you are struggling, talk to him during office hours or after class. He will help you a lot.
I just got my grade: B. I thought I was going to fail after Chacon gave back the first essay. I was going to drop because he graded so hard, but he told me everything I needed to fix and let me revise one of my essays. I'm glad I stayed.
This teacher will tell it like it is. Some won't like it. If you want to learn to write better he'll teach you. If you want to just chill and miss class he isn't the teacher for you. He takes his job seriously.
Chacon is super nice and funny. He makes a lot of jokes ad seems to care about you. Ive taken him for one class and Im taking him again.
Here's what you need to know: Come to class Don't use your phone Don't be rude Don't think he's mean-he just looks like it Ask questions if you need help Get ready to laugh
Protect your GPA and avoid Ken Chacon. He only gives out a few points and will readily deduct some of those few points from your essays. Don't expect any points for attendance either so do not miss days or assignments. Expect a heavy amount of reading. He expects a high amount of effort from his students and does'nt give back the same effort.
I don't think he explains things as well as he thinks he does, but he's definitely intelligent and can often be inspiring. He doesn't have a lot of patience for BS, but he's approachable. I learned a lot from him.
I loved the assignments, the class interaction and curriculum. Although it can get annoying to get picked on it always lead to deep discussion. He makes everyone take turns reading, and skipping class is a big no no. Oh and don't be late because he will make an example out of you. He is a really tough grader, good luck. In all I did learn.
I've always had good english teachers, and chacon is no exception. I learned alot, funny, and a tough grader. You can joke around with him but you gotta know when to turn it off. I recommend this class. He lowkey roasts you, dont let it get to you. Jus let it sink it and improve your writing. If teachers didnt roast you then you wouldnt improve.
Good instructor. High expectations. You'll learn a lot.
Good Professor. You will need to speak during class. Expect to do a lot of reading. Homework is simple, but time consuming. Offered extra credit twice. Worked in groups for a while, which sucks when group members dont want to cooperate.
Gives good encouragement but is rather difficult. Office hours and extra credit gave me a B.
Thank u, next.
Hes a tough grader and hes not gonna take any BS but I really liked the class overall even though theres a fair amount of work. Honestly if I had done one more assignment or an extra credit I probably could have gotten an A in this class. Hes really intense about MLA formatting, so for the non-English majors, that can be hard.
Tough grader, you really have to work for your grade in here. I recommend drafting a copy of your work and seeing him in his office hour to get feedback before submitting. The class I took was creative writing so you had to to get out of your standard way of writing and I think he helped a lot with teaching us how to do that, it was interesting.
Good Teacher but really really tough. If you have time for the work youll learn all kinds of things and class discussions wont be boring.
My Chacon is tough at first but is a real caring teacher. He knows what hes talking about and he doesnt give a lot of homework to keep you busy. Just enough so you learn.
He is very enthusiastic about poetry and about creative writing fiction. He cares very much about the craft and technique and helps you develop into a better writer. He may come off as rude or mean, but do not his this deter you from taking one of his classes. The work is somewhat hard but nothing that cannot be done. Give him a try.
A very interesting teacher from all the English high school teachers I have had, he is very different but a great enthusiastic teacher as well, he pushes you to where you need to be good at in English, he pushes you to be a greater version of yourself then what you were the day before.
Professor Chacon is a great teacher. He kept the lectures fun and engaging. As long as you put the time into the research with credible resources and have a tutor proof read your work, you'll earn your repectable grade. Pay attention to dead lines, and read assignments carefully. Many have struggled because they failed at reading instructions.
English-48A- Introl to American Lit. Avoid this class, go with an alternative route. A lot of my work didn't receive many points or attendance points. Assigned essays based on my point of view were simply not enough, he does not grade based on structure but more on your opinion. I did not like the way he approached students in zoom sessions.
grades essays harshly, view revisions as less optional more necessary if you want a high grade. discussion posts, replies, many word counts. annotated bibliography requires 200 words per source an absolute pain to do, half the essay document is anotbib if you want full credit for research. creative writing project at the end.
certainly no pushover. He grades essays harshly and requires research in addition to original texts. He always made himself available and answered my questions fully. You will have to work, but an A is possible. You may learn a bit about writing.
He assigns a lot of work in one big heap, often later than scheduled which messes up the deadlines for when the assignments are due. Very very very very specific on how work is structured and will take points off for the slightest things, even on first day assignments. Very disorganized modules that students have to hunt for the tools & resources.
Probably the most frustrating professor I've had at city. Definitely not tech savvy, modules are extremely disorganized on Canvas. Makes it very very confusing to keep track of where you are in the course. Assigns a ton of work at one time, doesn't provide lectures. Long article reads. Goes two weeks at a time with no communication with students.
Very demanding to his students. Tough grader and would rather fluff up instructions with unnecessary info than get straight to the point. Changes instructions and information, forcing the students to hunt through all of the mess to find what they need. The work is very heavy and stressful. Do not recommend this class, find another route or class.
Teacher is very hard. Doesn't really allow make up work. He excepts his students to understand the assignments when they are very confusing. I know have to figure out this class and my grade as I am failing and having trouble understanding the assignments even after talking to him.
One of the most insane classes I have taken to date. He grades very harshly and you will have to fight with him to get a better grade. He asks for things to be turned in timely but does not grade with the same urgency. As for essays good luck. He makes tons of notes on rough drafts the makes you do a revision with an explanation of the revision.
Assigns work that is due during holiday break and has a lot of requirements for one assignment. Will have to scroll through a lot of unneeded info before you can see the assignment. This one class is more work heavy than the 4 Eng. classes I took back to back in one semester combined. Due date for work is not the actual due date 95% of the time.
Gives zeros on assignments if even one thing is wrong. Very unfair for all the work put in, just to end up with a zero. His instructions are very extensive in length that it is easy to miss one thing and that would be the deciding factor for the fate of your grade. I do not recommend this professor.
He's great. It was so slow-paced that he rushed everything towards finals week: a final project and final essay. Very passionate about poetry. He invites other poets to class as well. Has a certain way he wants poetry to be written, but as long as you do it to the rubric, you'll get credit. Attendance goes towards grade, so don't miss class often.
The class is out of 100 points and the last two essays are worth 20 points each. I was sick once and I emailed him about what we were going to do that week he emailed me back saying along the lines "Its not my responsibility to tell you what's going on, ask a classmate instead".
I honestly would never recommend this professor or class to anyone. Be prepared to read a lot and I mean A LOT! It is a lot of unnecessary reading and information that you don't need. I was confused the entire time I took this class and his grading is super weird, for example, an essay was only worth 20 points but it was a big chunk of your grade.
I took 15B - Creative Writing...So basically you will have to print out 20 copies of every short story you write and be expected to get the stories of the classmates who don't on your own. Very unorganized, the canvas is incredibly difficult to read. Took an entire two classes just to yell at the entire class about being too harsh with critiques??
Honestly, he was a good guy just not a good professor, the way you have to write essays and the subjects are just wierd so it's hard to do more than 3 pages. The very first essay we had to write was on eudonomia and it had to be 5 pages which was very hard to do it based on just one word.
If this is your first online class BE AWARE of due dates. Many discussion boards have two due dates and if you miss the first you won't receive credit. Even though its just an online class there is a heavy amount of reading however most things are only 7-10 pages so its manageable. He is very nice and gives a lot of feedback.
I went through a tough time my first semester of college and had to deal with being sick the latter half and experiencing extreme fatigue from my medication. This professor was not understanding and gave me no certainty that he would grade my last essay because it was late. I got A's in all my previous essays but failed the class because of this.
Great professor and also inspiring because of how far he has came. Although there are a few assignments, they are a BIG part of your grade. If you show up and show you care, he is understanding. Over good and gives good feedback.
I wouldn't recommend him!
Unreasonable, tough grader. First big grade was a 750+ word paper on what being American means to us. Worth 5 points but 60% of our grade? My thesis statement clearly stated that being American was complicated to me - I got a 0/5 because he "still doesn't know what it means" to me. Based on the reviews, I dropped instead. Not worth MY money or gpa
I took this professor for 2 classes and dropped 1. He is a cool dude, passionate even. He's old school and you can tell he takes his subjects and work very seriously. But he can be a bit difficult in many ways and easy to lose temper. Even if you're up front with him, he still tends to play enforcer instead of teacher. I wouldn't recommend him.
easy to understand
