i kind of like him but he's a strange character. sometimes i don't understand his motives for the things he does. i feel that he could treat his students with a little more respect. also, his instructions are unclear.
i hate him...hes to hard and complicated....he never explains anything that he wants on projects and when asked a question he never answers it.
Is only in his office by appointment and rarely there any other time. Classes are hurried. Won't finish working a problem unless asked 2 or 3 times. Non-approachable. Doesn't answer e-mail. You better be able to teach yourself.

He teaches like he always has someplace to go. Poorly structured classes. Relies more on you teaching yourself. Has a great personality, but is difficult to get ahold of. Makes slower students feel as though they are wasting his time.
Comes across as helpful yet does not have time for questions after class and very rarely in his office due to commitments. Recommend getting a tutor.
Explains things well. It all comes down to doing to homework and doing well on tests.
Great Teacher, very nice and cares for his students. Gives real world examples for using math. Gives overhead notes to get through math problems. Tests are good, Quizzes and extra credit are from homework.
He is a very good teacher. He gives out math problems that you can actually use in the real world. Imagine that! If you have a problem with copying work from the internet-plagarism- I definitely would not recommend taking him. He is very strict about that
i dropped his class because he was rude and disrespectful. his teaching style leaves a lot to be desired. the student body could do without him.
Excellent professor - Professional, prepared, organized and genuine. He's definitely the best math teacher I've ever had. He is *very* clear in explaining material. I highly recommend taking his class if you are dedicated, mature and respectful.

He is rude. Talks down to students. You have to teach yourself, he does not teach. He maybe goes over 1, 2 problems a class period. If you have a questions he says see him after class but he has no time. He's rarely in his office. Don't take him.
Gives good overhead notes, is clear on his examples, and tries to apply math to real life. So, if your like me I like to learn things on my own and I work at a fast pace and thats exactly what he makes his students do. If thats not for you, don't take him.
Mr. Chapman is THE BEST math teacher I have EVER had! He is really awesome:)
Great teacher. I took him for Stats and Trig. He can relate the problems to real-world because of his former jobs. Also is a very nice person. When I see him now he'll stop and talk to me for a minute or 2 on his way to class. He always seemed very concerned about the welfare of his students.
I took the honors Stat coarse because he recomended it to me. I thought I would fail, but recieved an A. NO TESTS. Only projects, not a walk in the park by any means. Def recomend!
He is disrespectful! Three semesters later, he still sticks his nose up when he walks by me. His class was (INDEED) challenging. I did well, but I worked for it. The good thing about him was that he gave a project instead of a cuml. final.

I think he's a really nice person and spends a lot of time on making sure everyone is on the same page.

i didnt like his class. there are two chapman listed, but either way, he really makes the class seem inferior. he might be helpful to some students, but it seemed like the majority of my class couldnt wait to get the final exam over, that is how much he sucked!

This teacher is rude, puts students on the spot. He is not helpful at all , in fact i think he needs to be taught statistics before he attempts to teach it to others! DO NOT TAKE! COURSE HIGLY NOT RECOMMENDED!!!!!
Statistics is difficult to understand no matter who your professor is, and halfway through the semester I wasn't passing the class. Mr. Chapman took the time to help me learn the subject mattter during his office hours, and I finished the class with an overall B. Mr. Chapman is a very good teacher,you have to be willing to work for your grade.
Great teacher good enthuiasm for the subject. I have no idea why others are calling him rude. the subject matter is tough, but he gives very forgiving grades and offers his office time if you want it. Just don't bring drinks into class and ask a bunch of stupid questions that keep everyone else from moving forward with the assignments.
Chapman is very unapproachable. His tests are extremely difficult, and he doesn't give you enough time to finish the test. If you are a slow note taker, he ridicules you. I do not recommend him at all.
I've always done bad in math classes. This guy is great at teaching. He was always there to help out and made time to help whenever I needed it. His class was hard but he gave great notes and examples.
I thought he was a bad teacher. Complained when he had to work out problems on the board! When he gave tests back - we had about 5 minutes to look at them and then he collected them. You then had to go to his office, if you wanted to see the test. Simply too lazy, must use the same tests every semester!
Seems like a nice enough guy, but I can understand how his tone/mannerisms come across to some as condescending. THis is not a class you can slide through without doing homework- grades on homework. No sodas! Heh. Can be intimidating to ask questions (I still do though) and you have to be very clear and specific.
he was an okay teacher , his test were hard and he was very anal about going to the bathroom he would chase you down the hall to make sure you were okay. I wouldnt reccomend him
Do your homeowrk if you need help go to him after class he is alwys there during office hours. His class is gard but only if you dont do your work.
This guy is a COMPLETE JERK. I'm afraid to bring a drink in his class! Marks u absent when you're really there. VERY RUDE TO STUDENTS. This is the absolute worst professor I have taken at SPC...DO NOT TAKE HIM
He talks about himself too much when he should be explaining the steps he skipped over. Really crazy about students being on time...in fact be early. Not helpful and tests are hard. Just a jerk.

Chapman is VERY anal about attendance. If you are looking for a teacher who teaches the material STEP BY STEP this is not the professor for you. Many times he will show you the first few steps and then tell you you should know how to finish it from there.Althoug he never collects HW, DO IT! You cannot pass the tests if you don't do the HW.
He is a pretty hard teacher. I am an A math student and I might get a B. But I he does care and you just need to respect him and work your butt off. Do all you homework, every single problem or you won't pass.
Professor Chapman really cares about his students passing. Yah there is a lot of work that goes along with his class, but if you pay attention to his lectures and DO ALL OF YOUR HOMEWORK, passing is easy. It is the homework grade that will kill you. So, I would take him again, and I am. Thumbs up for me.

VERY HARD TEACHER! You need to work your butt off all on your own, don't expect to learn much of the matierial in class- he will do 2 questions and then jump to the next chapter and then in no time your lost and hating calc
Hard to follow, questions need to be clear and exact. Do not be late because you will be locked out of the class (he might let you in). But does spend about a Half hour going over the homework and any questions that you might have. Also uses some strange examples
SEEMS a little disorganized in the beginning of the semester,but he got better. COMES PREPARED WITH NOTES All you have to do is show up, TAKE NOTES, DO YOUR HOMEWORK (tests are exactly like ur homework.). TESTS ARE m/C. ITS EASY. 100's ARE POSSIBLE. but he is kind of anal. about good, TARDINESS, and etc.
N THERE ARE ONLY FIVE GRADES. A TOTAL OF 4 TESTS, AND THE FINAL EXAM, WHICH IS CUMALITIVE. ALSO IF YOU DO GOOD ON THE FINAL EXAM, IT WILL REPLACE YOUR LOWEST SCORE OUT OF THE 4 TESTS U TOOK.
Best Math Teacher ever!! he made me actually enjoy going to class. Tests are easy, as long as you follow him in class. Don't miss a class or be late, you will get lost. Great Teacher!
Great math professor. Takes time to explain, uses lots of real life application, gives spplicable homework and great test reviews. Would take him for all my math requirements.

I took him for Elementary Statistics last summer and found his input and application to real life very interesting. Very funny and looks like bill murray. You must be on time and attend class! I really liked him
I hated this class. He was not helpful at all during class and I even stayed after and he didn't answer my questions. He told me to look in the book. But if you don't understand it, you're outta luck. Only take this class is you can teach yourself. Lots of homework.
He is a terrible teacher,he pretends like he knows how to teach, but he really doesn't know. I am so glad I dropped this class, after that, I took a different teacher and got A.
I am shocked by the comments. Prof Chapman was a great teacher. He really explained Elementary Statistics and was very fair. If you invested the time and came to class with the homework done, he would answer any questions you asked. He did not tolerate the 13th grade students that came in and expected an easy grade without putting in an effort.
I was not looking forward to this class at all, but this professor was AWESOME! He explains things clearly and was one of the best professors that I have ever had! Great class and an easy A if you go to class and do the homework questions. I would definitely recommend him if you need Statistics! He knows this stuff!!
I took him for stats and it was a hard class but in the end it wasn't terrible. I have him now for applied calculus and he doesnt do that great of a job teaching this subject. Take him for stats not calc
He is a good teacher. He likes to teach with examples so if you learn by examples then he is the teacher for you. He does not like people talking to each other at all he likes the attention on him otherwise you will get yelled at, even if your discussing math. Other then that he is helpful and explains problems well.
I'm shocked by the negative comments too. Professor Chapman is very friendly and puts in 110% in helping students understand the material. There's only so much a Professor can do to help a student; the rest is up to them to concentrate for as long as it takes to do well. If you're interested in math, you'll do beautifully. His classes are very fun!
He is the worst math teacher I have ever had! He rushes through every lesson. He'll go over two problems and then expect you to fully understand. He gets in his own little world when he solves a problem. Not a helpful teacher at all!
Teaches lecture fine but when you go home to do the work, it is not anything like what he went over. He doesn't follow the book for his lecture so when you try to read the book to make sense of it you are screwed. Gives no grade except the 4 tests so you get no buffer. Doesn't give any kind of review. Tests are cumulative but again no review.
prof chapman is nice. but stats is a hard class. hes willing to help, and i thought he did a great job teaching. you have to keep up with the homework, and pay attention in class. 4 tests and a final.

Pretty much what the previous poster said. He treats his classes like a high school class and talks down to the students. His no food, drink or chewing gum policy is laughable. if your an older student, you may find it tough not to punch him.
Style: Moves fast but provides in-class examples of the homework he assigns (he doesn't collect). His door is always open which is nice but he doesn't do a review or catchup in-class. Copy all notes in class, don't talk to classmates, don't eat or drink - what is so difficult about that. generally well mannered. all tests are cumulative.
DO NOT take this teacher. threatened to kick me out of a 8am class for being one minute late the third class. wouldnt even let me go to the bathroom and when i did always had something to say about it. he treats you like your kids and doesnt teach very well. teaches way to fast and test are extremely hard. please do not take him
Taken two classes with him now. From a teaching standpoint I think he does a great job. If you study hard, take notes, ask questions and pay attention the tests are passable. He's a little odd about people leaving class and strict about no food/gum, but you're there to learn and he doesn't want people goofing off or distracting others.
He's funny at times but he isn't a great teacher...he's kind of all over the place. and he purposely skips over the more difficult problems in class so you won't have a clue how to do those hw problems. he also purposely drags his explanation on easier problems out to avoid the harder problems. good luck taking him!
If you happen to get this teacher, work ahead! you have to in order to understand and to question him. hw is due every week.

Horrible teacher. Rushes thru explaining the chapter then throw problems at u in class. If u dont attempt the problems he calls u out. If u do the problem and get it wrong he tells u good job but when u get it right he doesnt say anything. only explains easy sections then assigns the hard for hwk and expects u to teach urself or get tutoring.
Worst teacher ive ever had. all the horrible reviews on here are 100% TRUE. i dropped him in the first week. i cant imagine staying in his class for a whole semester. DO NOT TAKE HIM.
As you can obviously see Professor Chapman is difficult. When you ask questions sometimes he'll answer with an attitude as if to say "you're stupid for asking." Needless to say if you are not good at math don't take him.
HE moves through the sections very quickly and spends all class on one section and the 15 minutes on last section. He expects you to do a lot at home and learn a lot on your own or learn from tutoring. He can be mean at times and I did not like him that much
I've been a straight A student all my life until this guy. He's got an attitude when he has to explain something that we don't get. He's rude, sarcastic and unclear. His tests are really difficult and I don't recommend taking this class at all. Not everyone is good at math, and he's not good at teaching.
Despite the bad reviews about him, he isn't that bad and either is his class! Yes there is homework every night and he does typically do 2 lessons per class but he teaches very well. He also schedules his classes so he has an hour and 15 minutes or longer in between each one and tells us regularly that we can go to his office for help anytime.
Don't take him for statistics. His notes are short and teaching isn't that great. You have to teach yourself a lot of material. The exams aren't too bad as long as you go through the homework and figure everything out. I would recommend taking another professor for stats.
DO NOT TAKE HIM! He says since the tests are cumulative, that the last texts is almost identical to the final...i Aced the last test and failed the final even when i studied. He gives you nothing to study the final with while other teachers prepare worksheets that help you. I passed the class, but of my own accord. Hes a nice guy, but too bad
Professor Chapman knows his stuff but not sure if he goes about teaching it the best way. It is not an easy class and there is a lot of studying and homework time that must be spent. He will work with you and is willing to help if he sees you are willing to try. Lots of notes and several quizzes. Homework may be collected as a pop quizzes.
Do not make my mistake! Please, do not take his class. He is awful teacher and he really not care to help to students. He has interests only for strong students, who already good in math. If you are weak in math, after his class you need take extra semester with different teacher.
I took Chapman for stats. He always tells us we can see him after class pr during his office hours. Very strict when it comes to attendance and being on time. Other than that great teacher. Collects random homework samples to see if you're doing the work for 5pts each and offers easy extra credit assignments.
Great teacher. Failed College Algebra 3 times before I took his class and ended with an A. VERY strict about tardiness and class policies. Will make you feel embarrassed if you interrupt class. Besides that excellent teacher. Very helpful. Great notes, doesn't make you do more homework then is needed, in his office when he says he will be.
Seriously save yourself the trouble and money and DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. The worst, most belittling teacher. Such an attitude towards his students, and super fake friendly. He resists questions and his notes are more like outlines of what you should teach yourself. He claims that 3-4 minutes before class starts is late…. so inconsiderate. :/
Best college algebra teacher at SPC. Must attend classes and the tests are cumulative each time, so the third test would be on chapters 1,2 and 3. This helps, because the last test is very similar to the final. Easy A, only thing is that he only collects homework sometimes and you never know when that will be. Other than this, I highly recommend!
Not recommended! I took 2 classes with statistics thinking I should be able to get the class with the same professor. Both of them I took a D -___- 5 tests and a couple of homeworks. Hard class if you ask me.

I liked professor Chapman. He stayed on schedule and the syllabus clearly defines how he will grade. Some things in statistics are confusing and you do have to go back over it in homework but its not an easy class, there is no way he teach everything in class so you are 100% clear. That's why he tells you the homework is so important.
If anyone in class asks a question he will make that student look stupid. I am a good student, did all homework didn't miss a single day of class. I went to him for help because I was 1 point shy of a B and he said better luck next time.
He honestly scared me.. Every time a question was asked he'd pretty much talk down to you half the time. You'd have to be a math wizard to pass his class.. If youre someone who needs help with math often, find someone else who will be more patient. 5 mins BEFORE class is considered late. Really?
Professor Chapman likes things done a certain way-respect and showing up early. The homework is tedious, but is necessary to understanding the material along w attending lectures. If you understand the homework, you will get an A on every test. The material applies to real situations, so it is much more interesting than your average math class.

Nice at first. Got 100's on every homework assignment, and even on pre-test. Got my first test and directions are changed, problems are different, and 100 percent different then what he has taught. Teaches the easy parts then leaves you with the hard. Talks down to students, and is intimidating. Still in the class but im going to need a miracle.

Statistics was such an easy class with prof Chapman. Expect daily homework on mystat lab. very doable though &short. 4 tests, I got 96, 90, 100, 97. Final replaces lowest grade. Don't skip class. Bring text and graphing calculator to class daily. He likes to call on students.
I went into this class knowing it was going to be somewhat challenging. Do not listen to all these tools saying Chapman is a horrible guy. Yeah his class is hard but never did he talk down to anyone or try to make anyone feel stupid... tests are not that hard either. Please judge this man based off your own experience and not someones elses. work.

Professor Chapman very great teacher! He helps as much as he can & as much as you want him to. Easy class if you pay attention and ask questions! Textbook everyday along with Calculator. Exam is all the information from the test also all tests are multiply choice! Any problem with your personal life he'll take that into consideration! Good luck :)
Despite the reviews, I took this professor and regretted it. First time I have ever withdrawled from having a 4.0 and straight A's in all my semesters. He is super fast with the math material and makes things very difficult with the termology. Gives you an example and expects you to know how to do it without being taught first. Good luck!
For those students not strong suited in math, Professor Chapman is not for you. Bearing an attitude of "this is super easy" within lectures, it becomes daunting to ask questions (although, he will become upset if you are quiet in the class). There's no winning here.
If you struggle in math I would not take Chapman. He is very strict, makes you take a pre-test online via mymathlab, and if you do not get a 100% on the pre-test you don't qualify to take the in class test which is of course the graded test. He moves very quickly through subjects, has notes he has pre-written so he barely even explains everything.
