great professor really good class easy to understand!!!
AWESOOMME!!!!!!! HE IS REALLY NICEEE AND DOWN TO EARTH
Excellent professor - one of the best I've had at SMU.
Not difficult at all. The papers are short and easy to do and the tests are also very short as easy to do. You'll learn a bit, it's just quite clear and simple, especially for a philosophy course.
He is great. really helpful and funny. you learn a lot of interesting stuff but its not hard. his tests are very straightforward and easy. we always get done with class early..and sometimes he even cancells class by a vote, usually on a friday. i loved his class and would take any class with him if i take another philosophy. easy A+
Very Good
This class is a boring class. Ken is a nice and funny guy but this is not the class to take from him. Test are not too hard. Very average class.
Excellent professor. Easiest class on the world. Guaranteed A. Tests ate super easy and there's only one three page paper which he grades leniently. Makes a rather boring class interesting.
If you can take a class with Kenneth Daley, TAKE IT. Not only is he extremely easy, he wants you to do well. His notes are exactly formatted for the test and he grades extremely leniantly.
He's my favorite prof this semester! Enthusiastic & knowledgeable about what he teaches, clear about what is on the exams, always willing to pause his lectures and clarify people's questions, & he's funny! Don't get caught talking/ interrupting his class though, or texting, he'll call you out & yell at you
As everyone else has said, he was super interesting and lays out exactly what you need to know. heads up though, he said he was going to try and make it more difficult in the future. I would definitely recommend him though!
First time taking him. Business Ethics. Was somewhat easy if you keep up with readings assigned. Readings usually short, sometimes dense. Pop quizzes during semester but usually just 4 or so questions about reading from night before. Your okay if you read it. Tests straight from notes. Funny guy. Great class. Said he may make class a bit harder LOL
BEST TEACHER! Explains things well and is very helpful. A little confusing and boring at times but still great class. Awesome guy to, funny and not arrogant like some professors
Great teacher! Take him if you can! I dreaded taking this class because I thought philosophy sounded so boring, but he made it VERY interesting and taught how it applied to understandable, real-life situations.
Ken Daley is an awesome professor and definitely know his stuff. The topics we talk about in class are kinda dull, but easy to understand. The tests require alot of memorization, but are overall pretty easy. He has a good sense of humor which kinda lightens the mood. I would definitely recommend taking him
Business Ethics with Daley was certainly not the most interesting class - being at 9 am MWF makes it hard to stay awake - but if you put in the effort, you will probably walk out with an average grade. He is very nitpicky on grading tests though. Definitely not an easy A
memorize your notes and you'll be fine
Tests are not too hard and he keeps you interested during class. I always find ethics boring but not in his class. Only two papers, and two tests. Sometimes there will be a pop quiz, but if you do the reading you will be fine. He will also drop the lowest ones. Always gives extra credit opportunities. And he is easy on the eyes too!
One of the best professors at SMU! Take him if you can
Keeps class very interesting, and relates things to real life. Fair grader and only 2 tests and 2 papers. He made ethics fun, if thats possible
Excellent Professor!! I would take him again. Unlike most teachers he makes the outside reading apply to what he is teaching in class. Doing the readings helps a lot. I do not like the reading quizzes though. They are random and are 4 questions, so if you get one wrong you already have 75.
Love him! Such a great professor!
Great Teacher. Test are difficult. Go to class. Meet with him for both short papers and after the midterm.
I really liked his class! He wanted his students to do well and always kept class entertaining.
Cool teacher. He makes the class bearable by being entertaining. Cool class
Great professor! I would recommend him. Just know whats on the board for the tests and you will be fine!
Easily the best professor at SMU!!
Professor Daley is the professor SMU needs but not the one it deserves. Seriously though. He does a great job explaining the material but he leaves it up to you to defend your views. I thoroughly enjoyed his class and his stories are always interesting and funny.
One of my favorite SMU professors for sure. Daley assigns difficult readings but explains the concepts in class in a very clear, entertaining, and organized way. His grading is fair and the tests aren't hard if you took good notes. The class discussions are good too, I'd highly recommend his classes.
Professor Daley is great. Because of his sarcastic and pragmatic personality, he may come off as rather aloof and blunt at times. However, he is truly a professor that cares about his students and their wellbeing. He is accepting of differing views and so helpful during office hours and reviews. I highly recommend his class.
Great class. He is a very smart, entertaining, and likable professor. Tests were straightforward. Dr. Daley teaches very well and incorporates class discussions. Take him.
Best professor ever!!!! This class was so interesting, and I really feel like the way he teaches makes the topics interesting no matter what your major, and the critical thinking skills will be something that I will take with me for the rest of my life!
Intro to phil isn't easy at all, but Daley is absolutely a great professor. Explains everything clearly and is pretty funny. Tests are very straightforward. Super helpful in office hours and will work with you if your grades aren't what you want them to be. Take him.
Great teacher. The material is kinda boring but he's so awesome at teaching it that you won't get too bored
The man is a great guy, but not a great professor. Daley makes the class interesting, but there is no discussion in class. He will talk about his problems and tell you his life story while trying to make jokes. If I'm paying $50,000 dollars for an education I would at least like to learn something and have a decent debate amongst the students.
Daley is clear and concise in his instruction, and a super funny guy. As for the comment complaining about him "talking about his life", its actually much appreciated comedic relief. This is the kind of class that actually mattersteaches you real & useful concepts, and has the potential to cure some of the campus-wide bigotryignorance.
Professor Daley is one of the best professors at SMU and if you have the chance to take him I would definitely recommend it. He is hilarious, his lectures are always interesting, and homework is only a couple pages of reading which you honestly don't even have to read to understand what's going on since his lectures are great. 100% take this class.
Hard and quite inappropriate and vulgar, doesn't help much in his office hours either. Lots of reading and long lectures that leave you with questions.
Definitely only take Daley if you are actually interested in learning something, not just looking for an easy A. He's very fair, open-minded, AND hilarious. This is one of those professors you always remember because they challenged your world view and taught you stuff that actually matters in life.
Daley is the best! Wish i could take another class with him. Definitely requires work, but you get out what you put in. Tests are very straightforward and he doesn't try to trick you. Super cool guy too.
Daley is a funny lecturer and tells good stories about his life, but it is pretty much impossible to get an actual A. On the tests, I literally wrote exactly what he says in class yet he finds ways to count off points. Also, he is hard on participation and expect about a pop quiz every 2 weeks. I wouldn't take him again
I guess I echo the person who rated him below me. He's a funny guy and all and his lectures can be pretty interesting but his tests were pretty tough- you have to memorize your notes basically word for word. He also grades you on participation. I also thought he was a bit disorganized and took forever to put in grades.
Took Intro to Philosophy over the summer for credit. Class got really off-topic a lot of the times and he got really condescending towards some people if they tried to argue their opinions too much. Do your reading and take really good notes, he covers the material on the tests, you just repeat what he says in class.
Daley is a great professor! His lectures are engaging and interesting and he is very good at making material that can at times be drab, interesting with his energetic and hilarious personality. He is clear with what material will be on the tests and is a fair grader. If you need a philosophy credit this course is a great option!
He is such a great professor! If you pay attention in class and study the material, you can easily make an A in this class. The reading may be a bit difficult to get through, but he explains it very well. There is a paper due at the end of the semester, but he's so laid back that he just exempted it from the grade book.
If you get a chance to take professor Daley don't hesitate to enroll in his class. He makes the lectures fun with his personal perspective and makes you think about some real life problems. Best class this semester!
Best professor at SMU! Extremely passionate about teaching and makes lectures fun. Tests are a little harder than I expected, be prepared to memorize. Oh and he's nice to look at too
This class was an easy A. The test weren't hard as long as you read and paid attention during the lectures. The pop quizzes are super easy and the critical paper wasn't difficult either.
I had him for JanTerm this year and he was a super cool guy and also a great teacher. Make sure to review your material and be deliberate with your vocab because he's pretty specific with what he wants to see on tests.
I've taken his class twice, got two A's in both classes. It's extremely easy if you're willing to pay attention and he's super helpful and always open for office hours. He's funny and makes class entertaining. He won't change your grade after you get it but he'll help you to improve and has really flexible office hours. Readings aren't necessary.
Professor Daley has a lot of enthusiasm and energy when teaching this subject matter and you can tell that he really cares that his students should be able to think for themselves and encourages in-class participation. His teaching style is very easy to follow and the information that he writes on the board truly enhances your overall comprehension
Such a funny guy. The class was interesting, and he gave great lectures and structured the notes well. Assignments/grading were very straightforward and the tests were not bad at all. Would highly recommend taking a class with him.
Quite simply, if you have the ability to take Dr. Daley, you ought to take Dr. Daley. I came into the class with a bad experience with Philosophy from high school, but because of him, I decided to pick up a double major in it! The lectures in class were always interesting, but at the same time, I felt like I understood the concepts
Great lectures and even better material, this stuff matters in life. Dr. Daley is funny and fair but a little full of himself. Show up to class and pay attention and you'll do fine. He is always willing to help if you have questions.
Got the first B in my career with this guy. Not ashamed to say it. It was out of sheer boredom. He took something really interesting and got so caught up with himself that he forgot about the subject. He's a good person, not a very good teacher. Wants a transcript of definitions from class verbatim or he'll take points off. #TheDaleyShow
Lectures are great and so far he makes class interesting. Too early to tell about grading style. Solid choice but like others pointed out, he thinks way too high of himself.
He's really funny and relatable. Philosophy is obviously slightly boring, unless you are a philosophy major, but he does his best to make it better. He is kind of tough and his tests are worth a lot of points so don't mess up.
Best professor of my SMU experience. Makes you think about things that matter.
Good: A REAL person. Cares about students, lectures are energetic and usually interesting, lots of office hours, lets tangents happen to keep students awake and engaged. Bad: Some may find his cursing offensive (I didn't) and some may find his tangents self-centered or self-indulgent (I didn't). Overall: Highly recommended
Professor Daley is by far one of the best professors I have had at SMU. He is very down to earth and easy to talk to.
Chill and nice guy. VERY specific on wording, but memorize his phrasing and you're set. 3 short homeworks all semester, 1 three page paper on any subject, short midterm and final. Highly recommend
Professor Daley really cares about helping his students succeed. The lectures are relevant and entertaining and you leave class knowing that you learned about stuff that matters. Fair grader but the assignments/tests are not easy , take good notes and review them before the tests.
Daley is the actual best. You can get by without reading outside of class in his intro level courses, but participation is part of your grade and having that reading helps give you something insightful to say in class. Classes are always funny and interesting, would love to take him again.
Professor Daley is a great professor. He acts like a normal person which makes the subject more interesting. Wish I could take more classes taught by him. Cool dude, and you actually learn stuff in the class.
Hes alright
Cool guy but a little vulgar. Lectures are great but if you are easily offended he is probably not for you. Other than that he is good and fair.
He is very passionate about this course and it is demonstrated in his teaching. He is absolutely hilarious and one of the best teachers I have had at SMU so far.
He really makes you think and his style is very different from other professors which makes his class a lot more interesting and easy to follow.
First time ever I actually looked forward sitting in a class. His lectures are great and he is very helpful if you have questions about the material or the assignments.
I definitely enjoyed the class and found Prof Daley to be very engaging. He's a real funny guy, and the course hits on a number of different topics, so even if you aren't especially drawn in to one thing, you'll be sure to cover something else that interests you. This course increased my interest in subject. Study up on the tests/quizzes.
Professor Daley managed to make boring stuff super interesting. He is fair and willing to help you. He is also funny and very passionate about teaching.
Let me tell you something, This man looks like a Seth Rogan and Ryan Gosling combined. HIS BEARD AND HAIR ARE MESMERIZING. He is the best and funniest professor I have ever had. Take him. The concept is hard but he is so worth it. He makes you want to come to class and learn. HE IS ABSOLUTELY AMAZING.
I cant imagine SMU has a better professsor than Dr. Daley. He cares about the topic and the student and he is always ready to help.
Professor Daley's class has clear-cut expectations and is relatively easy, but not a blow-off by any means. Study the material well and you will excel in this class. Lectures were often unstructured but always interesting - it is evident that Professor Daley is passionate about the subject. Didn't use textbook.
Honestly, the best professor I've had at SMU. I took him for summer '18 and the class remained really interesting. I do have a bias since I am interested in the topic, but Dr. Daley's jokes/stories/etc. add a lot to the class. In terms of tests, he gives you a review, which is really dependent on your notes that you take in class. Have good notes!
Dr. Daleys class is one of those classes I will remember way after Im done with school. The topic is super interesting and his lectures make you stop and think. He is super smart and very relatable.
Ken was an amazing professor I would no doubt take him again. He is so funny and pretty left wing political at times, but I never cared because it always made me laugh and it was never imposing on my views. He grades on very few things so never slack off. We had a mid term a final two quizzes and two home-works for one semester. Overall great prof.
The class might be better if he didnt share so much about his life. He goes on tangents that are irrelevant to make himself look good. The use of fowl language is very disrespectful and disrupting to the class. He tries too hard to be cool and goes about to the wrong way.
He's a funny dude and a good lecturer who keeps it interesting and entertaining. It's an easy A if you pay attention in class and take minimal notes. If you're a social person who isn't awkward around other people it should be fun. The low ratings are misleading. I already know who rated him a 1/5. Snowflake-of-a-girl in our class LOL.
Professor Daley is a fantastic teacher. Very funny and is able to explain concepts that can be pretty confusing at times clearly so that you understand it. His random stories he tells during class are what make the class great. He really cares that you do well. Honestly one of the best professors I've had and will take him again.
He is cool and all but he is definitely not for everyone. His lectures are entertaining but not everyone takes his class to be entertained and some people want to learn more but he goes on rabbit holes that are not relevant or are too distracting.
Great professor. Take his class if you get the chance. Really passionate and hilarious. Best part of my MWF classes. If you're hurt by "cursing" then be ready. He likes to curse and quite frankly its awesome. I've learned a lot of important things about our future as human in terms of enhancement/AI/right to privacy.
I love Professor Daley, and I have learned so much from his class. He keeps everyone engaged even at 8 am, and he has a great sense of humor. This very well may end up being my first B in a college class, but not because he's not an excellent teacher. I just struggle with the material, even though I attend class and do the readings. Ken rocks.
There are a lot of positive things about Dr. Daleys class but jus language and insistence on being cool makes class hard to follow. I wish he would just stick to teaching material and not performing his funny routine.
Ken is so awesome! I took a philosophy class on technology and society and had my eyes opened to so much about the future I never thought about before. His mid-term was a bit tricky but he is always open for office hours and gives out an opportunity for extra credit. He wants to see his students succeed. He cusses a lot which I found funny.
Professor Daley is a great person, but I'm not too sure if teaching is his gig. He has mentioned in class that teaching is a feat for an introvert like him and I'm starting to believe him. His erratic teaching is fun, but when it impacts your grade, the joke's not so funny. However, he is clear in what he wants (at least on exams).
Prof. D is intelligent and knowledgable- his class was interesting. However, he is extremely intimidating, which sometimes led me to keep my mouth shut when I had something to say in fear that he would disagree with me and make a scene. He believes what he believes and makes sure everyone knows it. Make sure you know definitions word for word.
I really like Ken Daley, I've had some interesting discussions with him, and he seems like he genuinely cares about what he does. His Mid Term was incredibly difficult due to his grading, but he makes it possible to redeem yourself for the final. I would recommend him.
Really enjoyed Ken and his ethics class, he honestly inspired me to pursue a minor. I honestly don't see the big deal of people saying he's "unorthodox." He's very clear about what you need to know and is passionate about every subject. Personally, I was always on his good side because I participated but doing so was never hard. Take his class.
Ken Daley is the best! Took him over may term for business ethics. Definitely opinionated (and he will tell you that), and overall a great experience. Genuinely cares about students!! Take him!!
Professor Daley is an awesome professor, I had him over this weird COVID-19 time, and he was very lenient and understanding that this is new and hard for everyone. The logic questions were the only hard thing that I did in his class, but you will fly through the class once you get the hang.
Dr. Daley does care about his subject, but the lectures can be mediocre. He loves to bring up politics in class and will spend a few minutes at a time going on about things that are totally irrelevant to philosophy, which bothered me even though I actually agree with most of his views. Also lots of discussion boards, but overall not too bad.
He seems like a really nice guy and like he really just wants people to participate but something about his personality just annoys me. The class is a lot of reading and a lot of reading quizzes. His class is MWF but he only made us meet on WF so that was nice.
Professor Daley is an incredible professor. He does bring up his political opinions at times, but he is very respectful towards both sides. The class has a reading quiz due every Monday and occasionally has reflections due on Fridays, quizzes, and homework, but overall it's not a bad workload. Also his sense of humor makes the class fun to attend.
Your friends dad that everyone loves cuz hes chill and funny kinda vibe. A little scatter brained but class discussions are pretty enjoyable. Reading and a quiz every week + 5 reflections + random quizzes and homework.
Want to learn? Want to get an easy A? Want to take a fun class and not be bored? If you answered yes to any of the above, don't take this class with Ken. He goes off-topic for more than half the class, makes poor jokes, and can't explain logic for the life of him. His powerpoints are pretty but lectures are either completely off-topic or dry.
I think that this man should not be a teacher. I think that he is in the wrong profession, do I know what else he should do? No, but it should be something else. He "teaches" logic the first three weeks but includes it in every quiz and test afterward. I don't hate the guy but there is no reason why he spends 20 minutes of the class on a tangent.
Would rather this man have a mediocre Netflix special instead of a philosophy class.
Mr. Daley is an amazing professor. He is very funny and makes sure that you understand what type of professor he is. He almost encourages you to drop his class if you do not like an outgoing teacher who strays off-topic from time to time. Yes, he does lecture a lot but it is all very interesting subjects and I highly recommend this class.
Mr. Daley is a really amazing professor. He uses his humor to make class enjoyable for students with many out of pocket dad jokes. If you cant take humor or are easily offended then dont take his class. He too will encourage you not too. Logic has been hard for me to understand but Mr. Daley is available to meet on zoom and wants you to succeed.
He is a very personable and funny teacher which helps keep some of the drier topics entertaining. I greatly appreciate his jokes, his casualness, and the fact that he is very much a person. His passion and extensive knowledge helps me stay focused. I also LOVE that this class has take-home exams since he understands how stressful in-class can be.
I think Professor Daley is amazing. He sometimes strays off topic and isnt the most prompt at responding to emails, however he is worth it. He genuinely cares about his students and the material he teaches and is quite funny. 10/10 recommend!
Professor Daley is by far my favorite professor this semester. He's has a hilarious sense of humor which makes lectures LESS boring and more fun. The work load is light and he gives so many opportunities to make an A and gives great feedback. Sure logic can be difficult, but he does a great job explaining and if you don't get it just practice more
Ken Daley is really really funny and I actually look forward to going to class. We only have a mid term and a final which are both take home which really helps with the stress. When it comes to logic, it is pretty tough but hes always available to help outside of class. I took his class for a CC Breadth. Take him!
He is the best! By far one of my favorite classes. The topics are relevant and you will leave class looking forward to learning more about the topic. Prof. Daley is super funny and you can tell he has interest in what he is teaching about. He also cares about his students and takes all the steps he can so that we will succeed. Love this class!!
Ken's class is super interesting! Be ready for discussions that might make your head spin though- I was worried to make a rate my professors account and click that I had read the terms of service after our last class I would recommend this class, especially if you are looking for an interesting class to fill CC credit! Super funny too!
This is a fantastic course to get your PHIL requirement out of the way. It's interesting, much more applicable to daily life, and overall not super challenging. His tangents are almost always related to the lecture, but also provides some lightheartedness during some of the more emotionally-tough lectures (i.e., animal rights, abortion, etc.).
Ken is a great guy who really does care about his students. Hes a very blunt yet funny character who cares more about your learning than your grade. This being said, the quizzes and homework in this class were very manageable and the content was quite interesting. Anyone who left a bad review on here most likely did not put in enough effort
Guy's super engaging. Continue to use his lessons on logic in my other classes. Funny as heck. Stickler for grammar, which was surprising. Do the homework and read then you'll be fine.
This guy is such a good lecturer and will teach you how to think critically. He tends to get off topic but nothing unbearable, just do the readings and you will succeed.
Just avoid him. He is proud when the class average is 78. If you want to take this for a breadth class, I wouldn't. I would take it if you want to be a philosophy major. He is a very nice guy, but he gets off-topic and it makes learning very difficult. He's a hard grader and doesn't give you enough preparation for the midterm or final.
At first he was chill, but he is very opinionated and quite blunt in stating those opinions to the point of being crude. He tries his best to show respect but he doesn't do a good job at that. I did well in his class but it was through a lot of effort and agitation. In my 13 years of schools, I have never disliked a teacher but he is the first.
The class was great and Dr. Daley was super helpful throughout the semester. He is always willing to give you feedback and was very flexible with office hours. Honestly, the class and the material are not meant to be easy but he made the class fun. I truly learned a lot even if my grade is not super high.
Daley is a fun prof who's good at creating a energetic environment. Make sure to participate, either on discussion boards or in person. Tests are two part, writing and multiple choice. The writing requires you to be pretty detailed, but you get a lot of time for the essays.
Thought it would be a good class; the quizzes and tests have "trick" questions. He DOES NOT test over what is taught in class. This is a business ethics class, but be prepared to just be doing logic the whole semester.
This is a great class! Dr. Daley, makes you think about real world problems but makes the class fun. He is not an easy greaser but gives chances to ask questions. He is super funny too. Great professor all around!
This is by far the best professor at SMU. Or at least was... I don't know what happened but the chair said that he is no longer teaching I guess? Its a shame because he was actually one of the few professors here that seemed to enjoy their job. #1 in the class, #1 in our hearts. WE LOVE YOU KEN
Ken was really passionate about what he did. I don't know what happened to him but he is gone now:( One day he was telling us about the importance of your online footprint and how to get your name off of the internet and the next he just up and disappears. I wish some of my other professors at SMU cared as much about our learning as much as Ken.
Ken will be one of the most memorable professors I have had. I disagree with him politically but am thankful to have learned from the perspective of someone who sees the world with a different lens. He wouldn't judge students who disagreed with him. He made an effort to teach us in the eyes of some major philosophers. A very fair and kind guy.
Really great guy and an interesting class. Hope he comes back and continues teaching at SMU.
what happened to him?
Totally disappeared and never responded back to my emails of concern.
Shouldn't be a teacher
