His use of videos and images in his power point presentations keep your interest during his lectures. He tells history how it is and does not try to make the USA appear flawless. Fair and keeps you alerted about deadlines.

Fair and Balanced he is not. He is a lefty revisionist that can some times be nauseating and borderline anti-American. Continualy tries to push a liberal agenda that is in direct conflict with traditional American values.

he is great
I loved Faunce. I didn't have to go to class very often, but when I did I didn't have a problem with it. His TA was a ****, but I liked the class. I didn't take one of the tests, but managed an A- last semester. I highly recommend Faunce for Gen Ed.
Ugh! I'm kicking butt in this class. this guy is awesome!
Two Letters Sum up this teacher E - Z
great teacher that actually makes history somewhat interesting. Also very easy.
Faunce is a cool guy and makes class intersting to go to. Very easy to get a B without trying, and easy to get an A if you do well with in class essays.
Great teacher, explains things very well, best gened professor at WSU.
He's much better that my Gen Ed 110 professor.
He's a really good teacher and a nice guy. I stopped going to class half way through the semester and discovered that it didn't really matter if i was there or not. I just read the book for the essay exams, and I will be getting an A.
Makes history Relevant and interesting
His lectures are SO clear and interesting! It's true that you don't HAVE to go to class to get a good grade, but going to class isn't a chore -- it's actually kind of... *gasp* ...fun! Seriously. He makes history come alive. I really, really enjoy his class.
good class to take! only few papers to write, always clear. easy grading. dont have to go to class, but never have to open a book if you do. pretty interesting, he never dwells on a boring subject, just skiffs over a lot. not too bad for history class!!! get faunce if you can!
Tell me about the RENAISSANCE!! This guy made history interesting for me, and that had NEVER happened before... He is also very nice and willing to talk to you about any questions or problems. Try to get Dr. Faunce if you can; even if you don't think you like history, you will after his class.
Great teacher. Makes you enjoy history in a class that could be very boreing. Doesnt take attendance yet makes you want to come to class.
great
He is a very easy teacher, if you want to go to class you can, he can be interesting. He has periodical quizes that you have a week to prep for, they are very easy. The test were take-home that did not require going to class. Also he is very nice and knows what he is talking about.
Easy B. Few tests... lets you know what to expect on tests with the questions given to you.
Great teacher and you don't have to go to class!
Great teacher! Recommend him to anyone taking his class!!
He's an easy going guy who does a good job making the lectures intresting. Homework is very minimal and the quizzes/tests are pretty easy if you put forth some effort.
Very awsome teacher. His leactures, while not very important to go to, are completely awsome.
EZ!!!
Going into this class, I already hated GenEd since my 110 prof. sucked. So I assumed this one would be just as bad, but I was 103.7% incorrect, Dr. Faunce is the coolest prof. really enjoys teaching and wants you to excell. I would definetly take any class that he teaches he is an awesome person!!
Best professor I've ever had. I'm a Jr now, and looking back, I still love him to death. Funny and easy. He's also liberal, which is simply wonderful.
Good class, lectures aren't bad and u dont' have to go often to get an A,theres 4 map quizzes, 3 takehome tests, and a cultural event. It depends a lot on what TA you have for a good grade but overall there's very little work and its a easy class
This is the best Gened prof, he's funny, and he makes this class interesting. I hated Gened 110 and I thought this class would be just as bad, but it's not. It's awesome. 3 take-home tests total, 4 quizzes that you have a week to study for. Great class, I highly recommend this professor!
Great guy, makes history intresting. His class is really easy.
All take home exams. I got an A in all of them. Never attend. There is no point. He gives pretty good lectures though. Either way he's a great prof
I love this guy. If he weren't married, yeah... Anyways, his lectures were great, he definitely knows his history. I enjoyed his graham cracker lecture. :)

Graham cracker lecture was hilarious....hes kinda geeky...and my friend has a huge crush on him...so we went to class a lot...i just went to laugh at her...but it was worth it...if u want a good prof Faunce is it
Good guy, good class. I learned more from the take home tests than i would have from in class test.

He was awesome! I understood everything and he made the class and material interesting! He was funny and kept the class fun! Sounded like he knew the material very well, making things clear when it was fuzzy! Good flow with the time... makes it go by fast! I would greatly recommend him!
faunce or "socks" as nicknamed from my friends, is an amazing teacher! You'll be taking good notes, but all of it is very entertaining and useful. good professor
Great teacher, VERY easy class. I got an A+ in it, going about 50% of the time, and didn't have to take the last map test because I aced the first three. Take this guy for GENED.
Awesome teacher, i would highly recommend him for any incoming freshman taking Gened 111.
this guy is bomb. i love him. best prof i ever had. i want to be on him.
Great Professor.
AMAZING!!!! if oyu get the chance you HAVE to take him!!!
I absolutely despise history classes, but I actually enjoyed going to this class. I would recommend this professor above any and all other professors offering this course. There were around(can't remember how many) 4 take home test papers to write, and one other assignment, and only 3 in-class quizzes that are pretty easy(if you study a little).
Lectures can be boring at times, but not to worry, this class is ridiculously easy and a sure bet than anyone can achieve an A. Exams are take-home, two simple assignments early in the semester, and a few quizzes, the lowest score dropped. All in All, a very easy class to fufill the GE requirement.
He is a knowledgeable in his subject, and the class is easy, but he seems rather apathetic when it comes to teaching, and the only thing that matters is fufilling the GE requirements the university sets. In essence, it's all about the grade, he doesn't really care if you learn anything or come to class, for there are take home tests.
I would definately recommend Faunce for GenEd. His lectures were actually interesting and it didn't suck to come to class. Tests are take home which is good, and quizzes are known about in advance. Great teacher!
Good professor. Makes his lectures interesting and always adds fun facts. His take homes and quizzes are a bit tough.
Knows what he is talking about. Worked for the army as an archaeologist and also designed missiles in the 80's. Definitely a fun class and professor. He uses powerpoint slideshows and you take notes in class and watch the occasional video clip.
Hands down the best history teacher I have ever had.
This guy does not give out As
i love mr. faunce. "that kind of idea"
Every class is just a powerpoint presentation, which gets very boring, especially since Kenny isn't exactly Mr. Charisma. My TA graded hard, but with an easier TA the class wouldnt be hard at all. Overall, class is alright though pretty boring, that kind of idea.
Your grades depend on your level of writing and which TA you get. All the quizes, tests and assignments are written essays. All you do is read a book and write about it, almost like an english class.
Great Teacher very interesting. One of the best professors at WSU!!
Oh my gosh- Faunce is one of the best profs I've had at WSU. He is so fun to listen to at lecture and his quizzes are easy. Go to lecture. Read the three short articles before quizzes. Do the three exams! You'll be golden. He offers exc too. AWESOME teacher
Dr. Faunce is an awesome professor. He relies on a verbal crutch, which is a pet peeve of mine. He says "kinda idea/concept" a lot. Overall, a very wonderful professor and I enjoy his class. Gives three exams, three quizzes, and a newspaper assignment. Just take good notes and read the sections he tells you, and you've sealed an A. I recommend.
Incredible teacher. Knows his stuff, and is entertaining to listen to. Attendance is non existent, just get the prompt and be there for the quizes. Very funny and articulate guy. Might get a bad TA, other than that, amazing class.
AMAZING
Faunce is a great professor! His lectures are interesting. There are take home exams (essays) that aren't too hard. Just use the books and lecture notes and its easy. He doesn't take attendance but I thought going to class helps with the papers. The in-class quizzes are easy if you read the articles the night before.
Faunce is a great teahcer! He knows a lot and explains it in a way that is easy to understand. You don't have to go to class but it does help. He does 3 take home tests that are two papers each 3-4 pages. One will be based on a text book he assigns and the other you use class notes and outside sources. Overall easy class.
LOVE THIS GUY!! Take his class! Papers are pretty decent. He knows a lot about everything and tells stories about his experiences all the time. Always comes to class with a McDonalds large drink; without fail. Absolutely hilarious! He really makes you want to go to class. He tells you what you actually need to know. AWESOME PROFESSOR!!
Best teacher I have ever had. Very easy class. Funny guy with good stories. Take him and you will be happy.
I found this professor absolutely useless
Cool professor, had an 8AM class and went every day to hear the lectures. He knows everything he's talking about perfectly and his class is a fun trip through time. You don't really have to go if you don't want though, the tests are all take-home and quizzes are pretty simple. Why did I get a low grade? Cuz I'm dumb.
Great professor. Should take him for Gen Ed 111. Lectures were interesting and assignments and tests were not that hard.
Amazing professor, you can tell he loves History. Very funny, he jokes around and is a fun guy, and lectures are interesting. He has a very interesting past, too. Listen for hints about it.
i had him for anthro 130. the tests were pretty bad, 10 short answer questions that were nearly impossible to get full credit for. Papers are easy. The Class is useless to attend. his reviews are decent but only 10 of 60 show up on the test and not all of the questions pertain to lectures or the review. Not a big fan of him.
Great teacher, although taking notes in class is often useless. No tests, but a lot of written assignments. Definitely makes the subject interesting though, and I'd recommend him if you're willing to do work.
Useless!!
Faunce is a pretty reasonable teacher. There are no in class exams, which is nice; but he assigns 3-4 page take home essays throughout the semester as the "exams." Going to class isn't really necessary, although I did because he kept attendance. 20 points of extra credit is available over the course of the semester. He's interesting to listen to.
Class was very interesting and mandatory , no formal history tests; the entire class is graded on essays. 80% of my grade was based on Engl101 topics rather than history! Horrible reflection of my actual knowledge of histroy. Faunce needs to require Engl101 or take time to teach the finer points of writing. Skilled writers will enjoy the class
Ken Faunce is the best teacher I have had to date. He is articulate, organized, communicates well with students, and has a great sense of humor. He is not the traditional teacher in that he does not give memory tests. He assigns weekly reading and short answers (blackboard) as well as four papers (3 papers) throughout the semester. I attended all l
He is awesome. Attending is mandatory and worth the same as an exam. He keeps thing interesting and grades easily. The TA's are the ones that grade harder. All essays/writing responses and no in class tests or assignments. Definatly an excellent lecturer and makes the mandatory attendance not hard to keep up with at all.
Great teacher who grades pretty easy (on the things he grades). The TAs grade on a pretty high expectation scale, but as long as you can write a paper, you'll be fine. Passes out an attendance sheet every class, but you can leave after you sign it if you really need to go. Pretty straightforward class and glad I took it with Faunce.
Faunce is pretty cool, but your grade is determined on the TA you have. If you can't write essays, then you can't pass this class, or even get a B. You don't even have to pay attention lecture because what he talks about in class is never on the take-home exams (and all of them are take-home). You do need to buy all the books, but they're cheap.
I took both US history 418 and 419 from Dr. Faunce. He picks the best books! Both times I came away with books I now recommend strongly to others. I didn't get much feedback, just "Good job" on my papers. However the class is very well organized and the instructions are pretty clear. More feedback would be nice even on A papers.
This guy is pretty cool. He's animated when he teaches. His voice is anything but monotone. One thing I don't like is that his lectures aren't politically neutral, but that's just the college experience I guess. If you go to class and take notes, you're guaranteed to pass.
Professor Faunce was extremely knowledgeableand easy to learn from. I really enjoyed his classes. He helped make history very clear in a fun engaging way.
Explains the material very well and gives lectures via powerpoints making it very easy to take notes. Also, he goes at the pace students write so you dont miss anything. He makes the class funner with witty remarks. Overall, funny teacher and easy to learn material. And the tests I had we're all take-home exams!
moderate, not exams but papers, go to his class for attendance points only
count attendance. nice, friendly, somewhat funny, comfortable class. no cellphones and laptops are allowed. no exams but papers.
definitely recommend faunce for any class. hes down to earth, helpful, and knows a lot about what he teaches. solid class.
This is a good professor, but the class is based primarily on take-home essays. His TA grades them extremely hard, and I ended up withdrawing from the class because i suck at writing essays. Bottom line, if you can write you should do fine. If you can't take a different professor.
He was the best gened teacher, it sucks he take attendance via clicker everyday, but he makes lecture interesting and he is always enthusiastic.
Only bad thing about Faunce is attendance is mandatory but you get points. There are no tests there are all take home essays (3). Easy class to get a good grade in.
Dr. Faunce is extremely left wing, and he has no problem letting this show in his lecture. He is very knowledgeable about most of the material he covers, and provides a interesting lecture. His graders are much harder than he says the are, I received an 47% on my first midterm paper, and when I asked him about it he changed my score to a 80%!
So far, Faunce has been my favorite teacher here at wazzu and I would recommend him. No exams and only like 3 or 4 essays makes his class very stress free and easy
Faunce was pretty much my favorite teacher here. he is genuinely interested in what he lectures about and he "tries" to make class fun. i took him for both semesters and i actually enjoyed my time. weird!
good teacher, hella sexy
Good Teacher
Pretty funny, walks in like a boss, but still nice. if you dont like papers, i would not recommend him but overall he isnt so bad and if he has a strict TA, the class gets harder
He takes attendance which sucks but he is pretty funny and nice. good professor! i would recommend him, he is the best GenEd teacher
One of my favorite professors. He is a great speaker which makes lecture hour go by very quickly. Attendance is required with iClicker questions, which is a bummer. There are no tests, but 5 essays over the semester so if you don't like to write don't take this class.
He is definitely my most favorite teacher to date. He is very useful with his lectures. He outlines everything he says on his powerpoints and makes it easy to follow along. There are no exams, but a few essays to replace them. His teaching is very interesting and I truly recommend him.
He is really good at lecture! He explains subjects to us with enthusiasm. He doesn't have test, instead he has all research papers. It is a very interesting class and I would recommend this class to anyone that has to take GenEd 110!
GREAT TEACHER! Go to class, you will learn so much! You can tell he loves his job and that makes a difference in teaching college students.
Faunce is one of the better GenEd professors and I recommend one of his classes to everyone that has to take GenEd. He seems very enthusiastic about what he is teaching, and if you go to class and put effort in the essays (no tests just essays) then his class is pretty easy.
Great teacher and he is intrested in what he teaches as well. Makes lectures as intresting as he can and I would recommend him for anyone who likes an a well distributed work load and intresting lectures.
great teacher, easy class.
Easy, don't have to pay attention, write a good paper and impress the TA
Write good essays, go to class, don't even need to pay attention.
Very easy nd interesting to listen to.
By far the easiest gened teacher. Take him if you can. Go to class for clicker questions which are pretty easy to figure out. Write a few essays and activitiy assignments throughout the semester which aren't that tough. A very easy A and Faunce will work with you if you have any problems.
So easy. Super nice guy too. Take him if you can
Awesome professor. Makes me lol when he says "as part of it all" cuz he says it a lot. He's super friendly and nice, and grading is not hard!! Gonna take his 111 class next semester!
Awesome guy and an outstanding professor. My favorite class this semester!
He's basically amazing. Very easy to understand, and very few assignments to do. I highly suggest sitting in front if you have a good sense of humor, because he responds well to that.
The Faunce is one of the most intellectual professors ive ever had. He requires you to come to class but only assigns a small ammount of homework. I would definitely recommend taking him for any class. It's that kind of idea.
Questions comments on anything? Its that kind of idea!
The Faunce is the best GenEd professor you can get! He's interesting to listen to, and has a good sense of humor. You just have to write a couple essays and do some discussion questions, but that's it.
Questions, Comments? Good lets get started.
Faunce is a great teacher. He is very enthusiastic about his work and I love going to lectures (despite the fact that I had his 8:10 class). The only thing, is the essays never seem to correlate with the class lectures. BUT there are no tests :)
I absolutely hated history before taking his class, but he actually made me interested in what he was talking about...cause its that kind of concept.
easy a class do your hw
Great professor! Made history interesting and made jokes during class. Always smiling. Notes are not needed, essays are relatively easy. iclicker questions happen often. He made morning class fun and worth attending.
Faunce is an Awsome professor! This history class was by far the most interesting history class I have ever taken. Starting my day off with class was the best! It was a great way to start off the day!
Mr. Faunce is a great teacher!Make sure you go to class everyday--because it's required--but he is so engaging and knowledgeable that you won't have a problem doing so.
Faunce is the bomb. He is really chill funny and jus a total boss. If you don have faunce you trip out.
Faunce is a really nice gened teacher go to class so you can get points for attendance. DONT GET THE BOOK. All you do is write papers and disscussions really easy. Dont bother to take notes in his class you wont ever need them or use them.
Extreeeeemly easy and interesting class. You don't have to take notes or go to class really (but there are clicker questions) but he makes class so interesting you want to go. very little homework, 3 essays and the midterm and final are an essay. Take his class!!
Use a clicker to take attendance so either go or give it to someone else to mark you there. Lectures are so boring and really don't need notes. No exams, only papers and weekly posts which are easy especially if you work with friends. He always says "its that sort of thing/idea" which is annoying. Besides that he is easy. :)
Extremely nice and interesting professor. His lectures keep you focused and interested. Don't need to buy the textbook because it's not used, and notes aren't necessary unless you plan to use small portions for an essay. Extremely easy teacher; definitely take GenEd from him, great way to start my morning!
Great prof! Is really passionate about his classes and enjoys interacting with students during lecture. Lectures are all power points with a few clicker questions a day, and then two online posts a week. Great class for freshman to ease into college. Highly recommend his class! Easy A, no tests, only papers!
I was so lucky to have Mr. Faunce for GenEd 111. I loved the power points that were shown during class because they were easy to follow and understand. You need to go to class for clicker points, which does affect your grade. He knows a lot of stuff and he shares his knowledge with the rest of the class. Great Teacher!!!!
on-line class: Quick to answer questions. Not much on-line interaction required (hence non-mandatory attendance rating). Mostly lectures and reading. Must answer study guide questions thoroughly which takes a while. Space these assignments out and its not too hard. Fair grader when it comes to study guides and essays. Would take again
Ken is about the nicest prof out there. Cares about the class and material. No tests, just a final paper for 40% and some other weekly assignments. Summer class can be hectic, but we got Fridays off in exchange for 10 minutes of additional class time Monday through Thursday. EASY and interesting class, great prof, SCORE!
Faunce was the best teacher I had. He made class interesting and talked WITH us, not AT us. Great experience with Gened. Could not have asked for a better teacher :)
Very nice guy and knows what he is talking about. However, he clearly makes his political views EXTREMELY known and isn't really willing to accept that not everyone agrees.
Great teacher! Very interested in history and knows what he's talking about. All you have to do is keep up on the reading and you'll be fine!
Drug history- great class with a fantastic teacher. He was very into the topic and made the class interactive. I loved every lecture and would highly recommend it to anyone. It is a history class so there's quite a bit of writing, but that's pretty typical for upper division history. Lots of reading, but it was all very interesting! Would recommend
Great teacher, definitely the best history 105 teacher. Makes learning about the five contemporary issues interesting. Class is not that difficult as long as you do the weekly assignments and scan through the reading. attendance is not required but you get clicker question points for going to class, so you might as well
Definitely the best history 105 teacher. As long as you do the weekly assignments and scan through the reading you can easily get a B+/A-. Attendance isn't required but you get clicker question points for going so you might as well
Teacher is great, knows his stuff. Must attend class or else you'll get docked points, and there are clicker questions. Depending on your ta, grading can be a bit hard but there is extra credit, I got 40 points.
Great professor! Kept class interesting with music, videos, etc. Definitely a class worth taking.
Professor Faunce is an awesome teacher. I have taken two of his classes and it is obvious that he loves the subjects that he teaches. The class requirements are simple, but effective and he only assigns essays, not tests. I wish he taught more classes!!!
LOTS of reading and writing. No tests. Good feedback on the writing; timely responses to questions. A lot of online course materials are a mess(contradictory info on different pages, schedules not properly updated from last semester, busy backgrounds hampering readability, broken links) but his materials were well organized and accurate.
Dr. Faunce is a great professor. This class was extremely easy but still enjoyable under his teaching.
I took this class online. There's a lot of writing involved and a lot of reading, but if you follow his prompts you will get an A. He didn't interact with the class at all though - basically, he would help if asked.
Hands down one of the best history teachers I have ever had. His lectures have a good amount of music, pictures, and videos. He is also very interested in what he teaches which makes him so easy to learn from! Go to class because of clicker questions and because his lectures are awesome. He is a great professor! I also had him for HIST 105 too!
Dr. Faunce was my favorite teacher of my freshman year. He made waking up at 7:30 somewhat worth it. He knows what hes talking about and makes sure everyone understands. When a couple of papers were missing from my grade he helped me right away. Best History 105 teacher out there. P.S. Try to get a good TA.
Should be training all the Hist Professors at WSU the art of teaching and exam writing. No trickery involved, questions are direct and based in the syllabus. Comprehensive look at Hist. yet adequate amount of texts Syllabus perfectly balanced You will be able to read assignments and eagerly delve into topics if you want Does not grade your ideas
Professor Faunce made this class a breeze, I was dreading taking History 105 since all my friends had bad experiences with their teachers but I really enjoyed going to his class. He does require you to do writing assignments every week but they're not too bad considering what the other history teachers ask for. Just hope you get a good TA.
History 105 was surprisingly awesome because although you had to study the material to pass the course, the content was not overwhelming. Exams were also learning opportunities because there was no trickery.
Faunce is the best professor I have ever had. We don't have exams, just a response paper due after each unit. He makes class very entertaining and easy to follow along. Faunce is the homie.
He doesn't do quizzes. You'll never have to actually read the assigned readings. He does take attendance via clicker questions (which you don't have to get right). You have to write just as many papers in his class as you do in other History 105 classes (maybe less actually). He's also pretty funny and engaging.
As far as history 105 instructors go, he's probably the best you'll get. You have to write just as many papers as any instructor but he doesn't give tests or quizzes on anything.. including the readings. You also only have to go to 3 passport events and all you need is a stamp for proof (no essay)
Loved going to lectures, super easy to listen to. Very strict. Lots and lots of short (2-3) papers throughout the semester, but they're very easy to write about with all the info he provides during class! Cross your fingers for a good TA as they do all the grading!
Professor Faunce gave extremely interesting lectures the entire year. I thoroughly enjoyed every lecture of this class.
Dr. Faunce is really good professor. He understand situation, friendly, and funny. I often enjoyed his jokes Even thought i couldn't understand sometime due to my background. The class was pretty amazing in terms of assignments and research criteria. You'll get an A if you do all assignments and attein class. I would love to take again.
Professor Faunce is a great teacher - one of the best at WSU. If you attend class everyday, you will receive a good grade. How good of a grade depends on how much effort you put into the assignments. Ask him about his past with the FBI. He makes lectures enjoyable, so attend them!!
He was on time with grading, very fair rubric, responded prompt to email, professional
Ken's rave reviews must be from in-person classes. Online, I've had an horrible time communicating with him. Had to ask the same question 3 times before he answered. I've e-mailed him BEGGING for help and only received 1 or 2-sentence responses. There is one writing assignment worth 35% of the grade. I've gotten 95-110% in every class but this one.
Everyone I know (who didn't have Faunce teach them) hated HIST 105, but honestly, was my favorite class. This guy's great. Fun, easy-to-follow lectures, no quizzes (just 1 MCQ clicker question per class), and your standard (or even less) amount of papers to write (super easy, and i hate writing). Highly recommended. Don't pick anyone else. trust me
Really easy class if you stay on top of your work. A three paper is due after every unit and all semester a research paper is worked on and due around finals. Every class is just notes the entire time with lots of free clicker questions. He never gives quizzes or tests, only one clicker question a day based on assigned reading that is worth points.
Easy grader, minimal homework, and actually makes lectures interesting. Definitely recommend for History 105. Also, he gives a ton of Extra Credit!
Faunce is funny and a pretty cool guy. Show up to class and turn in your papers on time and you should get an A. Not a hard class and if you're required to take History 105 even though you're not a history person he makes it not miserable. Lots of extra credit opportunities.
Easy, interesting class. Faunce is funny and makes the subject interesting!
No tests, only papers. Pretty tough grader, but if you put in the work you will get an A. Always go to class because participation/attendance makes up a lot of your grade. Pretty funny guy.
Funny guy. Clear and interesting lectures. Was not bored of going to class. Depending on your TA, mine gets good reviews as well. No tests/exams. iClicker counts as daily participation. Multiple assignments/papers are given out and there is a final paper due at the end.
Easily the best professor that I have had at WSU. He makes class so interesting- you will want to go to class, not just because you have to. He is very clear and makes topics easy to understand. You know what the schedule is like for the entire year, and when the due dates are etc. Highly recommend.
Makes lectures somewhat enjoyable for a history class. No tests. You have to write a response paper after each unit and complete a final research paper for the final. Assigns a lot of before class readings that you should read but you really will only use them for your response paper sources. You can only have 3 unexcused absences.
All he does is show a powerpoint from years ago and makes his TA do everything and grade everything. He does nothing as a teacher and his papers make no sense. He is no help. Also DO NOT buy all the "mandatory" books thats just a gimmic for your money
He is very helpful.
I am not a fan of history and I hate writing essays, this class is about doing both of those things. That being said, Faunce is a great professor and even though parts of his lecture are pretty bias, there is still good information. I took the summer class which is definitely the way to go to get the HIST 105 class out of the way.
Wish I could take more classes with him! He is an awesome professor and will remeber him for a while! Super chill and always cracking jokes that are actually funny!
Super easy!
Ken Faunce is the best teacher I have had. Granted, I just finished my first semester of freshman year at WSU, but Ken is a real homie. You have weekly essays due but I started them the day they were do and I did fine. There is HELLA assigned reading but as long as you skim you're fine. I 100% recommend this professor for your freshman focus class!
Faunce's classes are the best. Keep in mind you will have a few papers to write and a big research essay at the end but no exams or quizzes. If you're not a strong writer i would skip his classes.
Fen Faunce was my favorite teacher this semester. He is fun and loves teaching this subject. There are a lot of papers but they are easy to write. As long as you go to class and pay attention there is no way you can't pass it. If you don't like history like I do, then this class is perfect for you. He makes learning fun.
Awesome guy Papers due every Sunday(some easier than others) 10% of grade is showing up Funny guy
He was probably my favorite professor, wasn't the easiest class, but I enjoyed it a lot. It was an 8am and I struggle to get up early, but his lectures were so good, that I only missed his class once. Essays are a huge portion of his class and in class participation. Don't forget your iClicker.
Loved Faunce as a teacher. Looking forward to taking him again in spring 2018! Does require you to buy the 2 books, not too expensive, about $75 for both if you hunt for good prices.
Took this as a freshman and it was a fun class . Papers are due very often and attendance counts for a good portion of your grade. The lectures are fun because he talks about interesting subjects and is a very funny guy. Great professor, but beware of all the papers you'll write.
Took the Online HIST 305 class. Overall not too bad, better than most online classes. His grading is inconsistent and doesn't give you good feedback on how to improve. Trying to get in contact with him through email is a struggle because he will not reply in a timely matter, he even replied after a due date of one of the assignments.
Prof. Faunce is a great Hist. 105 professor! His lectures are cool and interesting and cover a lot of topics. He will really like you if you participate by answering or asking questions and participating in the reading discussions. There are a lot of papers that were graded by a TA when I took the class, but none of them were very difficult.
Faunce is a great 105 teacher, he's hilarious and relatable. He is always open to questions and is easy to talk to and very helpful. He gives points for participation and attendance, and will take away points if you miss too much. A paper or project every couple weeks but they're not hard to get a good grade on. GIVES EXTRA CREDIT
Really great Professor. His lectures are informative and interesting, and he really understands well what he is teaching. Lot of cool examples and cool stories in class.
Fantastic at lecturing. Makes history interesting.
Overall a great person and a very respected professor. ive taken 3 of his classes because he is one of my favorites. if you ever have a chance take his history 130 class (history of organized crime) IT WAS A BLAST and he made it funny and interesting. definitely the best way to get a diversity credit.
Ken Faunce is the best history teacher I've ever had. He is very understanding and wants you to succeed. There are multiple chances for extra credit opportunities and he wants you to succeed. You do have to write a lot of papers but if you try hard and take all the notes from his lecture you will pass no doubt.
This guy is awesome. I definitely recommend taking any of his topics in history classes. If you like or don't like history it doesn't matter because he teaches classes that aren't your normal boring Roman snooze fests. He's really nice and engaging and if you're interested in the material (theres a good chance you will be) you'll have good talks.
This dude is BANGING, can barely focus in class when i see them hips wiggle. God bless Pilates and God Bless Kenneth Faunce. Also he's a spicy lil boi. Difficult class, but it's made worth it for that man and his personality.
Looks like this professor has stellar reviews when it comes to his on-campus classes, but I have to say that his online course left much to be desired. It was as if he wasn't present. It would have been nice to see some video lectures. I was really disappointed with this class.
Faunce is the best teacher I've ever had. He's accommodating to his students and truly wants you to succeed. You can tell he really cares about his students and always tries to make lecture interesting. If you go to class, pay attention, & do your work you will get an A. He also gives so many extra credit opportunities and has lots of office hours
A lot of writing
I had a really great experience in this class, and I heard complaints from students who were taking the same class with other professors, but I had no issue in this one. He's really engaging and if you do your work you'll pass!
Grades papers hard, but is very friendly and happy to help with any questions you have. Funny, interesting, and loves what he does. Very fun class.
He made history interesting to me for the first time in my academic career. He is very funny and engaging. You have to put thought into the assignments. I get good grades for the most part but was shocked by the low grades on assignments for small errors graded by the TA. However, I realized it only helps you to do very well on the final paper.
The best professor that i have ever had at WSU. I have taken over 4 classes with Professor Faunce and let me tell you. It was amazing. Faunce does not just make history interesting, he makes it fun and challenging. I would recommend Faunce to anyone that may be shy of history. dont worry, he will make it the most fun class possible.
Solid professor overall, heavy on lectures but he gives plenty of time for notes and goes over everything, if you forgot to do the homework he usually goes over it in class so you have time to fill it in before handing it over. Assignments are pretty clear, can 100% get by for the class without doing hardly any required readings. Textbook heavy!!
History 105: This prof is genuinely one of my favorites ive had in a while. One of the best professors at WSU in my opinion. Really shows he cares about his students and gives a lot of information for the papers for this class. Overall a very articulate and intelligent man and would take another class of his again without a doubt.
Dr. Faunce is a captivating lecturer, its hard not to pay attention. Dr. Faunce is extremely understanding and super approachable, he is really cool and willing to work with students if you come and talk to him. I would take him as a professor again and again.
Professor Faunce was by far one my favorite for the Fall 2019 semester. While his class is lecture heavy, attendance oriented, and there are about 5 papers in total throughout the semester, his enthusiasm and teaching style matched those of a high school teacher. Don't fret about the 5-page research paper, you work on it throughout the semester.
I took HIST 105 and 322 with Dr. Faunce. Overall a great professor with enthusiasm and so much better than the rest of the department's professor. Pros: So many extra credit opportunities, as long as you come to class its hard to not get an A. A group project so pick a good table, but its one less paper. He does make you buy his book. Attendance!!!
He is easily one of my favorite professors. He's super engaging and gives out so many extra credit opportunities. He makes his students read and write a lot, but even if you aren't the best at writing papers, you'll be fine as long as you do the extra credit and participate in class. If you put the time and effort in, you'll get an A.
Amazing professor! It was a struggle managing online classes but professor Faunce has been incredible at understanding our stress. He also sometimes relates what we are learning to real-life events which is so helpful. Gives fast responses to questions and genuinely cares for his students.
Dr. Faunce is a passionate professor and obviously knows and cares what he is talking about. I struggled with the required readings (30 pages every other night) along with the 4 essays and final paper (5th essay was optional). Even though the essays were tough, the extra credit brought my grade to over 100% at the end of the semester.
If you need your UCORE credit and like essays, this is your class. There's about 5 total essays, one you work on throughout the semester and the other 4 are after each unit. There is a lot of extra credit given and if you do them, you would have enough to pass with an A. Mr. Faunce is a great teacher and the TA grades really easily.
I freaking love this guy!! taking two of his classes next semester after taking this one. Very funny and interesting to listen to during lectures!
he was amazing and the lectures were always funny. a very easy class and fairly straightforward. definitely one of the best for history 105!
Awesome teacher but SO MANY papers and assignments. Go to class, turn stuff in and youll pass
He gives lectures that are fun to listen to and puts slides up while he talks. He does have big assignments, put you can do well on them if you do what is required. He and his TA have lots of student hours, and you have to visit them at least once. He offers a little extra credit. All around good teacher
Dr. Faunce is a great professor. His lectures are entertaining and engaging. The workload was fine, but I wish there was less busywork.
Do not take a class with this man. Professor Faunce is awful, and you won't learn any history. You will only learn about his opinions. He actually hates people with differing viewpoints, and will actively try to make you feel awful if you hold an opinion not found in the spectrum between Bernie Sanders and Fidel Castro, if that tells you anything.
Dr. Faunce is a fun and engaging teacher who occasionally uses his sense of humor to make some heavy topics more entertaining to learn about. The work that was assigned felt worthwhile and I feel like at least 1% better at writing after it. His homework wasn't hard but it did get tedious and boring after a while.
Very solid professor. This class was definitely not light on the workload, but I would really say that i've become a better writer because of it. As long as you stay on top of the work and don't fall behind you will be fine. Very nice guy who is always accessible outside of class.
Awesome teacher! No tests just essays and group projects. Lectures were interesting however, attendance is mandatory.
Professor Faunce is a very good professor, all his lectures were very interesting and always grabbed your attention. He can be funny too which always made class fun. There were discussions every week with occasion essays and a final paper. Trust me when I say this class is super interesting, easy and would make a great easy elective.
Such a great lecturer, adds humor to lectures. Makes the information interesting and clearly knows what he's talking about. Teaches information that's actually interesting. No tests in this class. A few writing assignments, but they're not very hard. Do all of the assignments and you'll be fine. Takes participation attendance through iClicker.
I would take his class again in a heartbeat. If you do all of the reading and start on your assignments at the appropriate time, you are for sure going to pass. He allows you to learn by yourself initially, then he teaches you afterwards during lecture. He's easy to communicate issues with, extremely understanding, and accessible outside of class.
Dr. Faunce made lectures extremely enjoyable through humor and interesting topics. The historical areas he covered were more specific than a general course, which actually made them more engaging. He was very nice when I visited his office to ask a couple questions about assignments. My biggest regret was not attending every lecture.
Pros: The reading material he selects is interesting and he seems to be a lenient grader. Not a lot of homework. Cons: Sadly, no recorded lectures. I really wish there was. I feel disconnected from this online class without it and sometimes I would really like to hear what he has to say about the course material. There is a lot of reading involved.
Professor Faunce is wonderful! He responds promptly to emails and is clear in his expectations. You have to do the readings and the work, though. If not, you probably won't fair well in his class. Luckily, the books required are interesting reads. There are a few papers in this class, but overall, the workload is light for a 300 level class.
There is a LOT of weekly assignments, and if you procrastinate they will rack up. But overall he's super nice and really well educated in his field of work. Highly recommend
There were discussion posts, several books to read, and a few big papers for the midterm and final. For the papers, you'll have to have the books read to do well. Overall, I learned so much; lots of knowledge that transferred over into my future anthropology classes. He was caring about my life circumstances and willing to be flexible.
There is a good amount of reading for discussions but nothing too bad. Dr. Faunce was an amazing professor and was very engaging in class. Class attendance is mandatory. He is extremely helpful with feedback and wants to teach valuable skills outside of class.
He was an awesome professor and really made lectures entertaining, he was always super helpful for questions, lots of work but nothing that crazy, aside from 3 papers over the semester nothing took more than 30 minutes, lots of extra credit opportunities as well, only annoying thing is we had to get a app with a 24$ subscription just for attendance
Good at teaching. He's so nice.
Prof. Faunce was a fun and lively teacher in the early mornings. You can tell that he loves what he does and his teaching style is simple: show up to the lectures, take good notes (they will come in handy for the papers you'll write), write two of the three papers you need (drops lowest one), go home. Would 100% take again.
Faunce is a wonderful man with a clear passion for history. 281 is filled with first-hand gangster stories and so much information you'll be dying to go to class every day. I had a very hard beginning of the year, and his helpfulness and care toward me was enough to see that I could pass the class. Can't recommend him enough.
Professor Faunce makes lectures fun and engaging. The workload is manageable, with essays and group projects instead of tests. Attendance is mandatory, but it's worth it to learn from this knowledgeable and helpful instructor. unstuck study was a great study tool alongside the textbook.
Dr. Faunce's lectures are awesome. He is super knowledgable and likes to throw in jokes once and a while. While I wasn't a fan of the group project (and did most the work), discussing the history surrounding the global drug trade was really interesting. The final is super easy as long as you did well on your previous source analysis assignments.
My favorite professor in my three and a half years at WSU. He truly cares about his students and wants them to succeed. His class remains interesting throughout the semester.
I took his HIST105 class last semester during the fall. Loved Dr. Faunce's lectures, couldn't help but feel engaged the entire semester. There's a good amount of coursework in the class but it isn't unmanageable. We used two books, not including the common reading book.
Very amazing professor, lectures are interesting best professor i have had so far. he gives so many extra credit opportunities
Dr. Faunce is a very educated individual. His lectures are very fun and he makes them engaging by his teaching style. Dr. Faunce usually only grades in class work while the TA grades work submitted outside of class, the TA this semester (Mark) is great but he can be a tough grader.
I loved Dr. Faunce class, I enjoyed the material, and he is extremely enthusiastic about what he teaches. The discussion section is sometimes hard because of the small groups, but it's worth it because the TA will give you more insight on the topics you are learning.
Ken Faunce was a goat. Always available and willing to help. So much extra credit options as well, 10 points for even visiting his office hours. Got an F (58%) on an essay by a TA, went to his office hours and asked him if he thought it was a worthy grade and he said the TA was way to harsh and raised that essay to a B (83%). Great guy!
Good guy. Very educated man. Always willing to help. However, very biased. I feel I didn't learn much of what I should've gotten from the class, especially since we are reading a book that Faunce himself wrote. Most professors are clearly left-leaning when teaching, but this guy belongs at UW.
took attendance in the form of a quiz everyday but otherwise pretty good.
Great lecturer and professor as a whole! Very educated on history and is great with the witty jokes. Plenty of extra credit opportunities for this class. No complaints!
Had no tests or group projects. Dr. Faunce is very passionate about history and knows A LOT about it. Every class is lecture heavy, with him speaking the entire time and potentially showing a video. Homework load was honestly lighter than I expected. DO NOT DO THE ICLICKER FROM ANYWHERE BESIDES IN CLASS. HE WILL CATCH YOU AND FAIL YOU I PROMISE.
