DON'T TAKE HIM! All semester he would just teach himself and not the class. Changes due dates around.
He's a nice man who's willing to stay however long after class to help you understand course material. All he asks for is effort, some people like this other one don't like to put in effort. Its a tough class but he makes it as simple as he can...He's always understanding & trying to help students. Granted I took calc in HS, but he is a good man
He is the worst math professor. He barely knows whats going on and you can tell he isnt interested in math at all. He comes to class oriented and unprepared. Assigns homework pages, a midterm, and a final. But he has no clue what's on them. He is just lost completely.
IDK wat anyone has to say but he is a good teacher. the class is hard and you have to take mandatory dept test which is the worst part. all in all an easy class hardly any homework. if u dont understand something ask or go to the math tutor.
Math Perspective with this man is ridiculous. he doesn't even know his own material. His tests had stuff on it we never even saw before. You're going to teach yourself ALL the material. DO NOT TAKE HIM.
Does not care about the well being of your GPA. His teaching style consists of him making mistakes and being incomprehensible. Then his tests end up being the hardest things in the world.. even though it's just Pre-Calculus. Dellusional.
He was the worst professor I have ever had in my life... avoid him at every cost... or your GPA wil drop quick...
Ganning is an interesting character. Don't get me wrong, his class is extremely hard, but not if you actually go home everyday and study what he teaches. The questions that he gives on the test are easy, they're just hard to decode. If you have to take his class, your best bet is to stay after class and get tutored by him.
Don't get me wrong he is a very nice guy, but he only covers the basic in class then expects you to adapt for the exam. He gives basic study guides and then makes the exam very challenging. He is willing to help you, but he only will cover the basics so it's not to much help. He perfers to use maple for all of his teaching, not by hand. Good luck
Funny guy, real goofy. Does not explain what is on the tests too well and makes it real challenging. Not a great speaking voice, real sloppy and makes a lot of mistakes.
Look more unorganized than he is.Sends a study guide for each 5-6 quizzes. Assigns HW about 2 per lesson based on excel or stat crunch and a powerpoint presentation.Easy grader gives extra points wherever he can.I went to him for HW help and quiz review EVERYTIME and he will re-teach you the lesson if you need it.If you try you will pass.
This class is okay, only take it if it's a good time slot. No classwork; everyone on their cell phones/laptops. The tests on the other hand, Jesus Christ. If it weren't for the fact that 99% of my class already took Calculus in highschool, we'd be royally fuc... Anyway, if you have to, take it. If not, don't. Simple.
He is not very organized and didnt know a single person's name in his class of less than 30. His teaching is very confusing so even if you pay attention it is tough. He gives review sheets for each test which make them a lot easier. Only 6 hws each semester. The information is simple so you can teach yourself. He is a pretty funny guy if you listen
He comes to class unprepared, confused. We never used the book he assigned. He teaches as he goes. there was no syllabus. We still don't know how our grade is determined.he makes the review sheet during the class before the test and review it the same day.Horrible lecturer,it's so difficult to review the notes later. He is AWFUL. Stay away from him!
I don't know why people say he is hard. I never had to crack open the textbook ever. If you show up to class, take notes, and go over his review for tests, you should get an Easy A. He gives you extra credit on tests. For the stat crunch hw he does it with you if you put the effort in to see him. He's very helpful as long as you ask for it.
Prof. Ganning is great. I don't like using the textbook ,and we never do. Online assignments- easy. Tests- easy if you understand his review sheet. He is so helpful in his office hours and you could literally finish your assignment with him and know you have it right. I recommend him but once again, everyone's learning style is different.
His lectures are so confusing and hard to understand. He will go off on tangents that have nothing to do with stats. He uses WebAssign for homework but has no idea how to solve the problems himself so good luck with asking him questions about it. He rarely uses applicable examples in class but uses flipping a coin for every kind of distribution.
There are much worse Math professors out there but he isn't very clear with his lectures and he often spends a large amount of time just putting formulae into Excel. There are only three or four tests throughout the semester and he doesn't give much homework outside of webassign. Make sure to read the textbook and do webassign each day.
Very disorganized. Worse professor I've ever taken. Makes you buy a book you dont even use. Doesn't care about his students. I emailed him constantly since the beginning of the semester and I am still struggling with his class.
Very disorganized. Worse professor I've ever taken. Makes you buy a book you dont even use. Doesn't care about his students. I emailed him constantly since the beginning of the semester and I am still struggling with his class. Avoid this professor at all cost!
He was absolutely terrible. Avoid at all costs. All he does is talk and go into deep tangents of stuff that doesn't even relate to mathematics let alone Statistics
Its difficult to pay attention in his class because he's really boring, but if you keep up and do all the homework and study his review sheets before the tests you're guaranteed a good grade. Its really not hard to get a good grade in his class.
His homework makes no sense unless you specifically ask him what to do for each question. Sometimes he goes over questions in class, but not the whole thing. I only get half of what he says during class, and I took a stats course before. Pretty boring. Stat crunch is his life. It's $12.50 for 6 months. You don't need the text book. Try to avoid.
An uncecessary and excessive and amount of homework. There's not enough time in a year to complete his assignments, let alone a semester. 4 tests throughout the semester that are entirely non-passable without attending class. Spews random information on the board and blows through Excel without explaining a single second of it. Avoid at all costs.
He talks non-stop in class about non-related material, repeats himself, & is confusing. However, w/ the material itself, the hw (7 all semester) is easy & the class before a test (3 tests) he gives/goes over a study guide which is basically an exact copy of the test so just study it and pay attention during the review. He never used the textbook!!!
Although his class is an hour and 45 minutes his lectures feel so much longer. He talks A LOT. He gives review sheets for the tests which are very helpful (basically the test except different examples). Never used the textbook.
Great prof. V helpful and will go over things as many times as you need esp at office hours. He is very clear in class, and will answer Qs clearly too. Is willing to help with hw and they are good prep for tests and final. The study guides are also rlly helpful. Overall super nice and good for ppl who aren't super into the topic, but want to learn
i am not the best math student, but professor ganning is there to help. i went to him before and after class for questions and he would always gladly help. if you put in effort, he will notice and give you a decent grade.
DO NOT TAKE GANNING FOR ANYTHING. no matter the class, the material will be so hard and he will not teach you anything so you will struggle all on your own. he is available in his office all the time but that should not be the time that you learn, you pay for credits that are completed at a certain time and you should LEARN.
If you can, avoid this class. It's really boring and you won't learn much. The reviews for the test do help but you have to have some kind of idea about what youre doing. During his lectures, he starts talking about random things and when he is talking about the actual topic, it doesnt really make sense. Hes a nice person, just not a good professor
He jumps from topic to topic and goes on rants without explaining stuff. He makes everything difficult and is tests are hard to pass. He will fail you if you do bad on one thing even if you did great on everything else. He has bad hand writing which makes it hard to write notes. He is also boring. I wouldn't recommend him
Material isn't hard once you figure out how to do it, but figuring it out is a challenging process. He goes on tangents all the time about difficult out-of-our-reach math, then says "but you won't need to know that for this class" which leads to many people getting lost in all of the information.
During class, Prof Ganning does go on a lot of tangents and it can get confusing. However, before each test he does a review which usually clears everything up. He's VERY helpful during office hours and will basically do your homework with you if you go. There isn't a lot of homework, and it is usually easy. Prof Ganning is a good choice.
Taken this class TWICE, and failed both times. Lectures don't help with homework, and homework doesn't help with exams. ALL homework is on webassign, so I highly recommend a Chegg account. Taking the course a third time, only to try and get a better grade, and it wont be with Ganning this time. This class made me change my major from math. AVOID!!!
he is a nice man but not a great teacher..... i dont know how this school keeps him here because i know everyone who has taken his class as either failed or just barely passed. in class you are never, ever, given practice question. the homework is given without explanation so you will NEED to go to office hours in order to pass everything.
If you have him good luck
Awful teacher. Moves too quickly. Not a very nice man. Expects everyone to laugh at his awful jokes. All work is done online on Statcrunch or Excel which is very difficult for people who are better with formulas and he doesn't give the option of using formulas. Do not take his class if you can avoid it.
I saw a lot of horrid reviews about this professor, but he really is not that bad. He is very odd, but if you go into office hours he will practically do your homework for you. He's extremely helpful in office hours. I know students hate asking questions, but if you do he is very helpful. This class requires studying and actually talking to him.
He is a very sweet professor, but very rough teacher. He's hard to follow and seems to forget no one else knows the material as well as he do, he is very willing to help tho. A lot of office hours. He made us truffles for halloween and hes very sweet just kind of awkward. if you really pay attention you should be fine, tests are pretty easy.
I don't understand why Dr. Ganning has such a low score . He was an excellent teacher and readily available if you ever needed help. I once sent him an email and he responded within a minute. His study guides were just like the tests and as long as you know how to use the computer programs required, you're golden. A genuinely nice guy!
He's a cool guy. He's just a terrible professor. If you have no prior experience with statistics, you definitely should NOT take this class with him. He forgets that we have other courses besides his. The amount of work he gives is absurd.
Prof. Ganning is super sweet and is available outside of class. There are 6 quizzes and the lowest is dropped. I have never taken stat before and was nervous, but if you go to his office hours he explicitly goes through every assignment and what to expect on each quiz. Final is easy and is exactly like all the quizzes with different numbers.
At first, I didn't mind Professor Ganning, but as time went on I slowly started to dislike him a lot. He doesn't go into detail when he is teaching, he also does the work so we can see but doesn't necessarily explain what he is doing and he sometimes brings up politics into the lesson which I don't see how that is helpful when learning statistics.
Prof Ganning is a genuine, nice guy. He is very reasonable when it comes to assignments, whereas other math professors are unapproachable. Stats with him will be hard if you've never taken it before (in high school or something) because he moves very fast and doesn't spend much time on core stuff. Lots of HW!!! Drops lowest test though :)
Buckle up for the most boring stats class ever. I took stats in high school and it was great, so the problem isn't the material. Also be ready to talk about the Jets all. the. time. Prof Ganning just sits there and lectures and does not engage with the class. Im sure he's a nice guy, just not a great teacher. You will need StatCrunch and patience.
Professor Ganning is genuinely a nice person, but his teaching style is very fast-paced and hard to follow. He doesn't give extra credit, but he's very lenient with grading on the quizzes and drops the lowest quiz grade. You will need to put in extra work. My advice: ace your quizzes (100+ is very doable) so you don't have to worry about the final.
hes a nice guy. easy quizzes. easy final. just do the homework and listen when he does quiz and exam reviews the class prior to the tests and you'll do well without even trying. he can be funny too, and he's obviously very intelligent
When enrolling in his course I was terrified due to the bad reviews on here, but I never had a better math professor. He was very clear with his directions and dedicated days to simply reviews and questions. His reviews are almost identical to the test and there is absolutely no curveballs. As long as you pay attention and take notes you'll pass.
Upon enrolling into his class I was scared due to the ratings, however he was the best math professor I have ever had. He was very understanding during office hours and broke down the material so well. You honestly only can fail in this class if you willingly do not pay attention/ try. The study guides were extremely similar to the exams.
Prof. Ganning is clear in explaining how to solve problems in the homework/exams. PowerPoints are based on textbook so we really didn't need to buy it. Sometimes the homework may be a bit confusing but he explains the steps during office hours (he literally does the homework for you). Everything in study guides are on tests so study those well.
Class is kinda boring but not that hard. He's a nice guy though. Go to office hours. It shows him you care. I honestly teach myself the content using his powerpoints because his lectures are kinda convoluted. Not that hard a class. Study for quizzes with the study guide and youll be fine.
Professor Ganning is a good man who is very sweet outside the classroom. He doesn't know how to teach this class. His instructions were always unclear, he would be super nitty picky with the grades when every grade matters in statistics. Also messed up my name all semester even after I corrected him various times. Don't take this class with him.
I think it is very easy to bash Professor Ganning, and some people do. But he is very approachable and his office hours are incredibly helpful. Sometimes he can be confusing, but if you go to him he will help any way he can to make sure you are learning the material. Definitely not an easy A, but if you put in the effort you should do really well.
I don't know why Professor Ganning has such a low rating to be honest. He explains things in detail and will help you with any work you need, like he'll do the HW for you. His study guides are exactly the tests, and he grades out of 110 so 10 point curve. He also tries to crack jokes but I can't lie they're corny, but at least he tries. TAKE MY MAN
Literally can be a 5-point assignment and he will not give you the full credit, gave me a 4.5 when it was an easy assignment. His questions make no type of sense & the way he writes the problems for the homework assignments are hard af. I tried to meet with tutors & on apps and they weren't even able to figure it out. HE DOESNT TEACH SHIT
In the beginning of the year I thought I was not going to like Dr.Ganning but I was wrong. His lectures are a little boring but he will make sure you are prepared for exams with reviews that are literally THE EXAM. I love his class and he genuinely cares about his students doing good, from extra helps to extracredit. He brings Oreo truffles, SO GOOD.
Doctor Ganning is a great professor and an excellent man. Math has never been my strongest subject, however, I was able to get an A in the class. He makes it very clear how grading works, and has office hours that really help. If you study the study guides extensively before the test, you will get over a 100. Every test has a ten point curve!
I enjoyed Dr.Ganning's class. The class was very heavy with lectures, but as if you pay attention, you should do fine. Homework and assignments vary from easy to relatively difficult depending on what the material is. But, Dr. Ganning is available to help. He is very helpful during and even after office hours. Reviews exactly what is on the exams.

He is a very good professor. He can be confusing when explaining something but He is always available. He did office hours before quizzes, he did reviews that are EXACTLY the tests. He also tried his best to give students opportunities to keep their grade up
His homework is VAUGE. Go to him first and let him show you what to do. I spent six hours on one assignment and got a 55 on it, without going to him first. He is nice guy though. His tests are easy as he gives study guide. It is just the homework.
Go to the office hours, trust me they really help and are normalized as a student, he does the hw for you and gives you exactly what's on the test, you would be dumb to not take advantage of it I honestly don't pay attention in class and just go to the office hours and get 100s on the test and all the hw laugh at his jokes !
Screw the bad reviews, he's great! I SUCK at math but this class wasn't bad. The tests are almost the SAME as the written HW. Only bad thing is they're almost every other Friday and there's extra webassign HWs too (not helpful for tests). He's also pretty funny and kind if you get on his good side (not hard to do). Also, go to office hours!!
His homework is tough but it is only 15% of the grade. He gives you the answers to the homework after the fact which is helpful with studying for the quizzes. There are a good amount of quizzes but personally I like that better than huge exams. His reviews are exactly like hist tests and he gives extra credit. 5/6 quizzes I got over a 100 on.
One of my favorite professors this year and a very genuine guy. Taught the class really well and the contents are easy if you pay attention. He gives you literally everything you need to pass the midterms in his reviews. If you show him you care he will care too.
He's a very good professor. He always make sure that we understand the material. The quizzes are literally the homework (he went over with the class) Very organized professor and he makes statistics sound a lot more easier.
Honestly not sure why he has so many bad reviews. The beginning of the year was kinda rough but he got better very quickly. The tests were just the homework and he gave us study guides and went over them before the exams. His lectures weren't too boring, but the homework was kinda just busy work, though it did help a lot with the exams.
The people on here who rated him bad didn't even TRY. Nearly impossible to fail. Quizzes are using a computer and on paper. Quiz 2 is the hardest one. Fairly identical to the homework. Quiz reviews he does...GO TO THEM. You could miss the lecture and just attend the quiz review and pass. Funny guy. He'll review your homework questions on teams. -A
Something that I like about prof. Ganning is that he does quiz reviews beforehand which are basically the exact quiz. I didn't really use the textbook, but you do have to purchase it just for the webassign homeworks which is annoying. Take him though!
The professor is very lazy when it comes to explaining and responding to emails. He isn't clear when he is teaching or side tracking. His exams seem to be very strictly formatted if not followed he takes off points with more work given.
Super easy to do good. His lectures are useless but you do still have to attend which sucks. The key to doing good is going to his office hours or make teams meetings with him. He will do your homework for you and the test is IDENTICAL to homework. Like same wording and everything. He's also pretty understanding and answers emails very quick.
He is very unclear and will never explain things fully. He dosen't like you coming to him for anything and is overall unhelpful. Don't take stats with him.
Very boring lecturer, went into this class with no prior knowledge of stats and I feel that set me behind. He's very stingy when grading homework assignments, and will not hesitate to take off points for the tiniest mistake. However, he does provide good review opportunities before tests, but otherwise the class is very difficult.
Dr. Ganning was probably the hardest professor that I have taken during my time at Seton Hall. He provides little to no feedback on tests. He spends most of class ranting about sports, himself, or simply reading off of slides. Then what is on the slides is NOT on the exams. Even my roommate has him right now and she hates him... DO NOT TAKE!!!
i don't understand why he has so many bad ratings. The professor is very helpful and accessible after class. If he sees you putting effort in your work he will make a teams meeting with you that day or the next day to discuss any confusion you have on the homework or exams. Your lowest exam gets dropped and the study guide are LITERALLY the exam !
TAKE HIM !! trust me he is a very understanding professor. If you ever need help on the homework/ exam he is more than willingly to help. He is a very sweet and approachable guy and will help you out if he sees you working hard. i suck at math and he has helped me so much. so if ur like me math not your strongest suit def take him !!
Overall Good Professor. PAY ATTENTION in lecture and do all homework it adds up. Very hard grader but is very caring and will go out of his way to help. The work you put in is the grade you will receive.
This man is the least likeable professor I had in college (I'm a junior). He makes it a point to provide useless feedback on homeworks (which essentially make up each test). A THIRD of the final exam was based off one homework assignment regarding the movie 12 Angry Men. No tie in to stats. Just the film. Don't pick this guy if you dont have to.
Professor Ganning is definitely a tough grader, but I feel like i definitely could have done better in his class if i put in a lot of extra work. Thats the thing about his class, if you dont put in A LOT of extra work you will not do good. Great guy and super sweet, but i think he talks more about non math related things.
Unclear on a lot of instructions, such as how he wants you to do things. Make sure to follow instructions exactly because he will take points off (like for not adding a works cited page for one sentence).
I took Professor Ganning for Stats and he is an okay teacher...it's just that he starts teaching before class starts, doesn't introduce the topic before he teaches, and he's just so disorganized! He's not bad like he'll drop your lowest test grade and give extra credit questions. Also, he gives study guides before every exam and hosts office hours!
Prof Ganning is a caring, supportive instructor who even meets weekends to help. His syllabus lacked clarity, so we learned concepts week-by-week. 6 quizzes + heavy homework—WebAssign was barely used, but extra credit on quizzes and drops the lowest. Put in the effort and you'll be fine.
homework is helpful, quizzes are exactly like the homework and the reviews basically tell u what the quizzes will ask about. i hate the software they make u use (mathematica) as it would constantly give errors, but overall the class isnt bad. gives extra credit on quizzes.
Three exams and he goes over the study guide the day before. That study guide is an exact copy of exam. Most of the math can be done on Statcrunch which is easy to use, you have to do minimal math. Some homework are multiple part questions. They are easy to do since he goes over them during class. Needs improvement on canvas organization.
Lectures are kind of boring and not too clear, but the material is not math and is easy to understand once you do the homework. He is a very sweet and funny man, go to his office hours and he will help you do all of the homework! Helps review for tests very well.
best at giving help. lots of hw but go to his office hours bc he basically tells u the answers to hw. 6 quizzes but he drops the lowest and quizzes are rlly easy since he doesnt put too many topics in one quiz. review hw + study guides cuz quizzes are exactly those. easy A if u put in effort and are not afraid to ask for help.
He a really great teacher. His class was really easy. Sometimes the assignments where hard to follow but he goes over them so you can catch up. His review days are the best because even if you didn't pay attention during class, these will help you know what you need to for the tests. His tests are written and online and he gives extra credit.
