Good teacher. Test is based on Reading, terms, and consepts. Not bad.
He's a nice and polite teacher. Overall a cool guy. As long as you attend class and read the book the tests should be pretty straightforward.
He is very unhelpful and very ****. Does not answer any question if you are a female student. Will not pay attention to any comments made by female students during the class time.
Very easy professor as long as you pay attention. If you do good on the quizes, midterm, and class project, u dont have to take the final:)
Horrible class!! He was very arrogant, not helpful, very boring, not fair, prejudice, a total jerk!!!!!!!! Find another teacher for this course!
his test are half multiple choice and half essay questions.MC are form textbook and essay question are from his lectures. you must read textbook before test. Easy to pass, not easy A(unless full points on his test)
Hardest thing was to make myself go to his class. He teaches straight out of the textbook and gets pissed off if you fall asleep in the class, which is very hard not to. But, his tests are pretty easy if you go to his classes and read the textbook.
I personally enjoyed his class. I agree that the lecture is boring, but if you read textbook well, you will do fine on the tests.
Less of strategies taught in class, most of the learning is through self-learning and simulation. Class is easy going, but simulation eats up lots of time and needs lot of team co-ordination
On of the worst teachers I have had. He was very boring and not understanding of anyone.
Excellent teacher. Do well on the first 2 exams & you don't have to take the final. Gives you oppurtunities for Xtra Credit points on quizzes. Funny guy. Definitely should take. EASY A.
Not the best, but not the worst.I'm not a good reader so it is difficult in that aspect.Self learners will do great, otherwise find someone else. Not a clear professor, always saying um...ahh... Like I said, easy for self learners.Oh yeah, he's obsessed with Japan and being short.
He is not that easy, I read the chapters more than once and still does poorly on his test coz its based on concepts and essays. Also, HE DOES NOT GIVE EXTRA CREDIT N WHEN ASKED FOR HELP..ALL HE SAYS IS STUDY MORE MORE MORE!
He is verry borring, but his Quiz are easy if you read ahead of time. His test are OK but read and make sure you get notes for his essay questions. He looks Like Radar from MASH.Always needs technical assitance with the projector.

He is boring during lectures; however, his exams are pretty easy. He also lets you drop one of the exam. If you read the book, then you should do fine. Easy A. Also, he might be unclear during lectures; however, if you go to his office hours, he will really help you. He cares about his students
He isn't the worst teacher; however, the class is HELLA BORNING! The class is based on 6 pop quizes and 3 exams. Drop either one exam or all of the quizes. It will be hard but show up to class. He is not lying when he says "quizes are your friend" you need them to pass. That's how I passed. Study.

MEAN, MEAN, MEAN!! Gehrt makes you feel stupid if you ask him a question. He is very monotone and hard to stay focused on. Avoid taking unless you are okay with having an unapproachable teacher.
Boring, Boring, Boring. His is the first and only class I have ever fallen asleep in. He talks in a completly flat monotone voice with no enthusiasm. Thats the bad news, the good news is, it's basically an easy class. Both quizes and tests include stuff from the lecture thats not in the book.
boring boring lectures; better to read out of book. wants students to pass by dropping lowest grade on tests and on quizes. can also skip final if you do well on first two exams. tests are tough if you dont pay attention to lectures which is tough to do. i would look for a diff teacher but hes a good back up option
ZZZZZZZZZZZZ...can we say boring! He is a quiet timid lookin thing who knows his stuff, but is not very good at teaching it. He gives 3 exams and pop quiz's. I hated his class. I failed the class and had to take it again because I couldnt listen to his boring lectures. BUS 138 is only useful if ther is a group project-which Ghert does NOT include
3Exams = 50 pts each. 6 Quizzes = 10 pts each. Can drop 1 quiz. Also, will base it out of 150 (dropping either 5 quizzes or 1 exam). Funny, gives real life situations, but hard to hear him. Exams are hard bc 1/4-1/5 is based on lectures & u gotta pay attention to them! Pop quizzes, but remember - quizzes are your friend.
This class is not a hard course if you read the book. But Gehrt is a terrible teacher. He doesn't even go over tests or quizzes and no study guides. Generous curve 85%, 75%, 65% for A,B,C respectively. Easy to get an A or B in this class.

(ROFL @ Piglet comment b/c it's true.) He is quite timid and tends to mumble. If you are accustomed to sitting in the back, you better have great hearing. The class isn't hard. If you read the book and focus on the vocabulary in the book, then you're good. Also, one of the essay questions in the exam will likely come from lecture or readings.

He sucks... do NOT take him!
Everyday quiz, reading, and a little overhead. No extra credit assignment at all.
Fun interactive exercise. Presentation blows, but over all class isn't too bad if you keep up with the reading.
Don't take him! Getting a B in his class isn't that hard but it is frustrating because he asks questions from lecture on the exam but he speaks in monotone and does not emphasize anything in particular. Basically if you want an A write every single thing he says down and then you have a shot at his stupid questions from class. TAKE SOMEONE ELSE!
The worst professor ever in my entire life. Weird guy. I was unclear about something and went to his office hour for better explanation but he didn't want to help me. He told me to pay more attention in the class. Didn't even bother to ask to sit. I was 15 minutes standing arguing with him about how prof should help their students. He's a real jerk
BOOOOOOO this guy SUCKS. He's too smart to teach well, and he makes this interesting subject BORING. Quizes/tests are HARD, and hes very unapproachable. Thinks he is so funny, but no one laughs at his jokes, everyone just falls asleep. AVOID this guy, unless you like struggling for a good grade.
What is wrong with him?! Lectures… boring, slides...boring, he himself…boring, tests are very hard, don't care about students, he think he is smart and everybody else is stupid. Not worth it to take his class, believe me, don't waste your time
Worst teacher at SJSU, will make u hate marketing, do not take him!!
Intro to Marketing is suppose to be somewhat interesting, but IT'S NOT!! He's BORING. Just lecture..lecture...exam...that's all. If you want a good nap..take his class!
Gehrt is the worst teacher. I can discribe him with a single word: JERK!!!! He only helps people he likes $%^&*#. Avoid him.
he would be better suited to each higher level marketing classes. However is VERY smart. can get political but unlike other teachers, he catches himself. He taught at Waseda University in Japan. It is japan's version of UC Berkely. Therefore he does know what he is taking about. I will take him again.

Contrary to earlier worst comments on him, the professor is not that bad. His textbook is easy reading, gave 3 exams and surprise quizzes but allowed to drop the lowest exams or total quiz scores. Depending on circumstances, he gave 5 bonus point for filling in certain survey. This helps though. Hard to get an A but shud be easy to get a B.
this guyz suckz, freekin hard
Very, very nerdy and geeky! And he's BORING too...YAWN. Is there anything more to say? A definite avoid.
This was the hardest class I have taken at SJSU. This class sucks regarless of the teacher! but he makes this class just that much harder. I have heard that I am not the only one that feels this way
Good Guy
He thinks this place is Stanford...So why doesn't he go there?
I think his lectures are very interesting. He gives good examples. His exams are multiple choices. He gives in an extra problem so there are 51 questions but he only counts 50 of them. No essays. Just pay attention to lecture. Possible to pass the class without taking the final!
he is the worst teacher i ever had in sjsu.i went to class every day and studied hard for the tests but still couldnt pass. the book is easy but his tests are super hard ,its 5o mc and 10 the other half essay only from lecture which is really unclear.its impossible to get an A grade. do not take him.
Takes away the motivation to learn. The class should be interesting and fun; however, he made it boring and stressful. NOT RECOMMENDED!!!! HORRIBLE PROFESSOR!!!!
I got an A in this class, but to do so you NEED to go to class and READ before. The material is clear and easy to digest. This is not a hard class if you keep up with the reading early on. Many think he is a little dry, but just as many liked him out of a class of 120. Good teacher.
If you pay attention to the lectures and read the tests, you will pass by with an A+. Had him over the summer and he gave so many chances to get a good grade, dropping the lowest test and quizzes, but the big thing: NO GROUP PROJECT!! He is great. A+ teacher
This guy is a real condescending jerk. He thinks he is better than you and tries to explain his policial views instead of making marketing interesting. Thankfully I had this guy in my last semester or else I would have changed my major.
The guy gives three versions of the exam (he thinks he's really clever by using small fonts and all same color paper). D'uh. The lectures are really boring...YAAAAAAWWWWWWN! He also likes to dress up, maybe he thinks the clothes makes him more interesting. NOT! I agree w/other comments. He's a real nerd and his teaching style is bad. Horrible.
BORING yet easy class..use the online textbook companion to study for tests and memorize definitions. Unfortunately, you have to show up for this class because of those pop quizzes (they will help raise your grade) and occasional questions on test about class discussions.
He is sooooo boring... and unfair. His pop quizzes were extremely easy, yet the tests were really unfair. He would mention something during the class, and that tiny thing would be one of the questions on the test. I guess it's possible to still get an A if you record his lectures, write everything down, and memorize it word for word. good luck
No Comments
Extremely hard..Never tells you what's on the tests..even if you study the text and lecture, they're not helpful at all..
Okay I'm not a great student by any means but this class was not bad at all. I am getting a b+.BREAK DOWN: 3 Midterms 50 points each drop one 30-40mc from book, 1-2 short essays from lecture. 7 quizzes drop 2. Up to 8% more easy ec. Take this class and read the book. It should be an easy A. I never knew about the ec because i left during the break.
hated him. he was always rude. gave inappropriate examples. DO NOT TAKE HIM!
Boring teacher but the tests ain't that hard. Need to read the text and pay a little attention on class lecture. pop quizs, but they are yr fd. he gives extra credit up to 9 for attendence of guest speaker and the very end of class so you need to stay. Overall I rate this guy b-
Be prepared to bring a pillow, laptop, magazine cuz this fella will bore your ace to sleep. Must attend most classes, 6 quizzes and tests are mostly book partial lecture. Ken has decent curve and allows you to drop lowest quiz and test. Better than most of the terrible marketing teachers there.
Don't take him, did u hear me don't take him. he has 3 mid-terms, 6 quizes, u think it's easy even though u read a book, but if u miss one day, u gonna miss a lot of stuff, he says that all of his quizes and mid-terms come from his lecture, that is so true, if u have so much knowledge about world then u can do good , people with English as a secon
don't take him. unfair mid-terms and surprise quizes, no curve, english as a second language people dont take him, that is true u need more knowledge about world around u, so u can pass this class.
Big mistake taking his class. Mr.Mumble. difficult to hear. During the entire semester, he actually taught for just 10 hrs total. VERY lazy - didnt update website at all. got all students using the simulation said he'll be a consultant to all teams. gave useless/wrong info on the game. 180 deg opposite of a how you'd expect a mktg prof to be.
Boring. 5 Pop quizzes. 3 Exams. Exams are relatively easy provided you read everything and study. Must pay attention in class as essays are derived from lecture. My opinion...he should be a consultant rather than a teacher. He could careless if you seek clarification.
This class require a lot of reading and study. Most of his Midterm and Final questions come straight out from the TEXTBOOK.
Summer session is short. quizzes and 3 exams. 85% is an A-. Read the book, take notes on lectures because it will be on the exam in essay format. Not a very interesting class.
Very interesting class. Great professor, gives lots of examples, is very helpful. All content comes from readings and lectures, but everything is pretty straightforward.
took him during the summer. super boring. offers extra credit (read some ww2 book, i recommend u read it). overall he isnt hard (pause), the class is just boring as hell. take it if u want. hot girls in class during the summer =)
He uses real life examples, but the lectures tend to be dry. Go to class because he may or may not have a quiz each period.
I had Professor Gehrt for Winter 2010. Despite what previous reviews have said, this professor is not that bad at all. Yes he's slightly monotonous, but he's a pretty nice guy and approachable for assistance. In our class we also got to play a online simulation that counted for half our overall grade... which was awesome.
Don't listen to other reviews. I just had him during summer 2011 and his class was the best I ever had! Play well on the simulation game, easy quizzes, easy presentation, exam was alright (just read the book n review his lecture notes). Most importantly: get a good group! pay attention in class and you will do well. He curves the grade in the end.
While Prof Gehrt is actually a nice guy, his teaching style is such that if you DON'T go out of your way to read the book, then you will be completely lost and flunk. Period.
I would not recommend by any means.
Professor Gehrt has alot of real life experiences to use with the course material. His Bus2 139 course consists of 4 quizes, 2 exams and a simulation game. He cares for his students to do well & returns your emails promptly. If students take gd notes during his lectures, & reads assigned chapters they can expect to do well on the quizes and exams.
I swear this guy is real nice. He is helpful and teaches in a concise matter. Talking and asking questions is encouraged because the examples are off the wall. Grading is fair. If you prefer to take early classes. He is your guy!
Professor Gehrt is a great professor. Really kind and approachable. Make sure you pay close attention to the cases during class because he uses them for his exams. He provides topics for what will be on the exams. Grading is fair. I would take another course with him.
Professor Gehrt is a really nice guy but not the best lecturer. It is really easy to tune him out since he is not engaging with the class even though he is a smart guy. I go to class, open the textbook, and take my own notes instead of listening to him cause I get way more info from the book. He does have a really nice grading structure though.
Honestly not the easiest material and not the most exciting, but he's a nice guy and is really generous with grading. Takes off lowest homework, test, and quiz grades respectively. Legit got decent scores on 2/3 tests and failed one and ended the class with a solid B.
Caring and knowledgable professor. Grading structure is very generous. Lectures can be a bit dry sometimes, but he does know his stuff and wants you to succeed. Ask him questions! No surprises on tests/quizzes, loved that. Homework/in-class assignments help out a lot with studying so be sure to pay attention and do those! Highly recommend
He is by far one of the worst professors Ive taken. His notes are all chicken scratch on the board and doesnt help in the final or big tests. I would take anyone else besides him.
we did not learn anything except we did the game simulation. As long you have a good group then you are fine. the game was about establish a business and compete each other group in the class. The first 4 group will get an A/A-. There were 3 quizzes from the simulation, group papers, and also final presentation. prof graded a little bit harsh.
His class is designed where you can't fail. Just do all of the work and put some effort into it. He's really forgiving and the simulation was fun/interesting (given you have a good group). Drops the lowest exam.
He is actually really nice, and explains as many times you ask. There is a game you play, which teaches you many marketing concepts. As long as you have a good group you will pass. Take him.
He's a good teacher. The study guides can seem easy but ask him questions about it. It helps. The simulation group project is fun though act like a real business.
He is easy-going and replied to emails very fast. You can learn a lot from the group project Simulation if you spent time on it. He is fair to all students no matter whether you are minority or majority students. 6 quizzes will be dropped 2 lowest quizzes. 2 exams and 4 added-up highest quizzes will be dropped the lowest one. Highly recommended!
Avoid him for a live Zoom class. Class was 2 days a week & he'd meet us 1 day every few weeks. When we pointed out we signed up for a LIVE class, he told us to deal with it or drop. Was vague on what to study (& made fun of those who wanted clarification). Exams and quizzes are from test banks aside from mini essay questions. Didn't learn much. :/
He does not teach. Self-taught class, he does not know how the simulation works and gives advice that will often make you fail. He is rude, snarky and does not like to be interrupted. Unclear grading criteria. Testing literally gave me anxiety the entire class. Questions were not important to Marketing. Do not take him.
Lectures are pointless. He asked everyone to buy a game he made for $45 and play it in groups. 500 total score for the class, 90 points graded based on the game. The important thing is you are assigned to a good group. Participation rating based on how much time you play the game. He doesn't care your effort on the actual content. Ridiculous.
Don't take this course. guy assigns vague assignments and projects with no rubrics. When he does get around to grading it is late, I had an A then when finals were over that grade was downgraded to a C and not because I did bad on the final. His way of teaching is ineffective and equally is a bad grader. Was not very tech savvy I might add.
Course is almost entirely dependent on a group project so pray that you have a good group. Quizzes are lockdown browser with camera but aren't too hard. He was very understanding with helping me extend a final due date which was a plus point. Overall, I'd say - he's not bad but he isn't great if you want to learn. Put in work and you'll do okay!
Take him for summer school if you want to pass this class as fast as possible. I would avoid him for Fall/Spring classes because his directions are vague, lectures are not helpful because he goes on to a tangent, and he requires you to purchase a simulation program that will contribute as your group project and he provides unhelpful feedback.
This professor does NOT teach/lecture. Instead, he talks about other things going on in the world. He tells you to read the textbook but then never talks about it and contradicts it. There are never clear grading criteria or a schedule. Quizzes and exams are tough, and everyone does badly. Do not take this professor. It's ruining my GPA.
You will not learn anything from this class. The professor expects you to read the textbook but never teaches it. He doesn't teach anything, but all he does is rant about what's going on in the world. Almost all students fail the tests and exams; most grades are D's and C's. Does not care about student's grades and has students work on a simulation
I'm so done with these guys who barely know how to work online classes and expect you to pick up the slack. The worst was shoehorning the concept of pop quizzes: must start at class time, be proctored, 12 mins/12 questions (setting up Respondus eats nearly 5!) and asked for such specific details that it's not even worth it.
Attend class every day even though he hardly teaches what is given on quizzes. Read and studied with the book just to get tested on specific details that do not relate to the class. Asked for help or assignments to make quizzes, that everyone fails, but was met with attitude. He does not want us to succeed.
Your grade is heavily determines by your group's ability to succeed in an online simulation where you own a company that sells bikes. It's pretty easy as long as you read the requirements. Take feedback prof gives on simulation and you'll do fine. Exams and quizzes are pretty simple. As long as you can read directions, you will do fine.
uh no, do not take..
Easiest class I've ever taken but it took a lot of willpower to get through the lectures. He is boring, monotone, and off-topic. Quizzes and tests are based on the textbook. He lets you drop your lowest test and quizzes. You do an online simulation, your grade depends on how lucky you get with your group. He is not very online savvy I might add.
You buy a game to play called Marketplace Simulation, the game is great and you'll learn from it, but the only way you'll get a good grade is by getting good group members. If you do good on the simulation, he will answer your questions, but otherwise, he won't like it when you ask him anything. Terrible teacher and terrible attitude, not worth it
He is definitely fair, although there are rarely classes and bad group members will be your worst enemy, but if you work hard he will notice and help out in situations like that. Overall easy class.
Do not take this class. You are graded based only on the few tests and quizzes in the class, along with a virtual simulation group project. The simulation is clunky, outdated, difficult to use, and complicated. You will meet with the professor every two weeks to discuss your group's progress in the simulation, and he gives unhelpful advice.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS! This professor is not good one. He talks in class about unrelated topics, so you are on your own for your learning process. The quizzes and exams are based on the book chapters (which he NEVER explains ). If you need him, he will NEVER answer back your emails. There is no study guide for the exams.
I was really scared to take this class due to the low ratings. It was fine and not too difficult. Most of your time will be spent on the simulation. Lectures are important because FRQ's are based on the lectures. He drops your lowest two quizzes, and lowest of either the midterm or final, or the cumulative quiz score.
I'm not sure why he has such low ratings he's actually a very nice guy. He rambles a lot about unrelated things sometimes but he's a cool teacher. He drops 2 of your lowest quizzes and either your midterm or final or the cumulative quiz score. Most of the class is based on the stimulation with your group, hopefully, you get put into a good group.
Kenneth is a great professor with experience working in marketing around the globe. If you take the time to attend lectures you'll hear many valuable real-world examples and applications. The marketing simulation is a ton of fun and will teach you a lot. Attendance isn't mandatory but, you'll appreciate the insight if you take the time to come.
Dr. Gehrt is a respected marketer, teaching students around the world about his profession. That said, he is not the most knowledgeable in tech and his age is catching up with him. To get an A, read the simulation thoroughly and play it a little risky, it will pay off. STUDY KEY TERMS from each chapter for quizzes and tests. Good grading policy.
This professor did not teach. This was a class where any information I did learn, I only learned due to reading the text on my own. The lectures were ramblings and sometimes the Professor made statements which directly contradicted what was taught in the text. I do not recommend this Professor. Final grade is heavily based on a group simulation.
Might suffer from dementia. Does not look and review canvas quizes before posting. Just difficult to deal with, rude to students, unwilling to admit he is wrong. Lacks comprehension skills himself.
Please don't trust any good reviews he has. This guy made us study for Chapter 1 quiz and then he tested us on Chapter 4. I'm not joking I swear on my life. On top of that, he only gives 15 mins to take a quiz that uses lockdown browser with camera on which itself can take 5 mins to set up. AVOID AT ALL COSTS TRUST ME!
He's so awful. Will tell u a quiz is on 1 ch, but the quiz will have nothing abt that ch. Obsessed w lockdown browser. Can't hear and speaks quietly. Rambles abt random things and doesn't lecture. This teacher is like being taught by a newborn.
This professor well make you reconsider continuing university
Only take this class if it's your last option. Throughout the whole semester expect to be doing a simulation that he makes you buy the first day ($40). During meetings with the professor and your group, he won't even provide you with advice on how to improve as a group. The only advice he gives is: "Figure it out yourself". Also textbook learning
Should have listened to reviews. Class mostly graded off test and cant see your progress because he doesn't update the grades, all he says is "just go based of syllabus" like if we can calculate our grades off that? Also group simulation that again cant see grade for, so all you see in semester is test scores which is fully based off readings. BADD
tbh, prof was not it. but, the classwork is honestly lightwork.
Professor Gehrt has a specific teaching style that can be hit or miss. The simulation is a key part of the class, so getting a good group is crucial. unstuck ai helped me prepare for quizzes and tests. Overall, it's a manageable class if you stay engaged.
This guys lectures are so mundane and he says “uhhh” every few words. Simulation grade isn't available till end of semester and tests are closed book. Also, the paper prompts are confusing. This guy is just is not a good professor and seems like he doesn't care about his students.
took this guy last semester, and he still makes me mad to this day. Imagine studying for a quiz/exam and finding out it's on a chapter you guys haven't even covered yet. group project where you compete against other students for your grade. If you take him good luck
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. You're better off teaching intro to marketing yourself. He gives quizzes/exams about chapters he barely did lecture on. What a waste of time, money, and energy taking and going to his class. HE SHOULD NOT BE A PROFESSOR AT THIS UNIVERSITY. DO NOT TAKE HIM.
Terrible. Most of grade's dependent on an online simulation done in groups where you compete against others for a grade and quizes. The quizes are horrible. He makes you take the quiz on Respondus Lockdown browser with a time limit where many students encountered issues.Issues left little time for quiz leading to bad scores and blames it on students
Professor Gehrt is a fine choice if you have limited options for marketing professors. Expect to self-study to get a good grade in the class, lectures are boring and don't cover the concepts in much depth. Pray that you work with a group of competent students for the semester-long simulation project. On the plus side, he drops your lowest scores.
