he is an easy grader
He rules. He gave the only damn A of my entire college career.
great got b+
I was happy with him, reasonable ammount of work, fairly easy grader. If you are having difficulties, make an appointment and talk to him, it helped me.Got an A-
fair amount of work. know your stuff. i got an A-. not much work. but must do readings
Cool teacher, easy grader.
the regular class is easier from what i hear. seems to be an arbitrary grader.
Great professor....very funny...makes the class fun....remembered everyone's name (120 ppl in class)...one exam..tells you whats going to be on it well in advanced...i got an A from him..highly recommended
Highly recommended!! An awesome professor. He made anthropology very interesting. Final exam was easy. One major project that isn't too hard. You come out of the class smarter than when you started out.
He's really not an easy grader, he's just not hard either. You can't tell how he's going to grade so you do your best and cross your fingers. The class is not difficult, nor is it demanding.
Great Professor.Extremely nice, funny, and helpful.Dictates definitions, writes notes on board-clear and organized.Gives review sheets for each test and one big project(not hard).Class is very beneficial. TAKE HIM =)
Kenny Guest is an awesome teacher. He is a little hard grading on papers, but you end up with a good grade at the end of the class. He sits the class in a circle so its easier to have discussions. You must read for the class though because he does ask you
ONE OF THE BETTER PROFESSORS AT BARUCH. A GENUINLY NICE PERSON WHO DOES NOT BELITTLE STUDENTS. GOOD GRADER TOO.
one of the nicest, most genuine people around. Slightly arbitrary assignments (Will tell you to write 5 pages on the irish without giving you details, then grades harshly because it wasn't what he was looking for)
got A-. great professor. better than the others. must read stuff. if you dont read it, you need to know it anyway for the midterm and final. highlight important detail for his IDs. wish i had an A though but i am a horrible writer. fair grader.
great great prof. interesting class. good grader. i got an A. he respects students n is always clear about what will be on exams. if u write good n study little bit you'll get good grade.
One word: EASY
he's an excellent teacher. I had him for anthro and IDC Honors. I love him to the extreme, everything is easy, as long as u studies for his midterm and final, he's a nice grader, I got all A's on all his classes. Participate will help u!
Must be hiding something with that perpetually sunny disposition.
he is the best professor i've had so far at baruch. he doesn't give you alot of work except for the research project. his classes are very interesting and he prepares you very well for the midterm and final.
Very easy class... i had a lot of fun!
Great class! I took it in the summer and it was intense. Easy midterm and final. Although the research project was long, it was easy. Take this professor!
Very nice professor who is willing to take his time out for students and respects us. Very interactive class. Makes us think outside the box.
Best prof! he is very nice and funny, as well as an easy grader. i took him during the summer for soc 3085. the class was very interesting, and interactive. i learnt alot. if i had to take another ant or soc class i would take him. I recommend him to all.
Participation goes a long way. I had him in the summer and it was an easy class. We took two tests, both were easy, based on a few chapters and did a project where we interviewed people from another culture and witnessed one of their rituals.
This guy is maaad good. So far, the best professor I've had (excluding Prof. Sitt for psychology). Guy is funny, easy to deal with, and very helpful. Easy test...easy A.
GREAT
Nice guy and a good professor. Easy class and interesting.
Prof Guest is a great. He explains everything in great detail and makes things fun. If you take notes on the chapter, do his work on time, and listen to his lectures you are almost garunteed an A.
He is the best prof in Baruch. The class is very interesting and he is very VERY funny. One midterm, one final, two museum papers, and an ethnography paper. Overall, everything was just GRRRRRReAT, a very enjoyable experience!
great and interesting teacher
THIS GUY IS A GOD! + he even wrote his own book called "God in Chinatown". newayz, he is a great teacher, great class, and he has a great sense of humor. besides that, he teaches well, a lot of notes, & u have to work hard for the assignments, but this class is def worth it, i <3 u prof guest! lolz
He is a nice and funny professor. The class is easy. He is a great professor.
not so much of notes, but intersting class. review sheet always given before any test. tat was great. nice teacher, way cool.
EXCELLENT Professor. Attendance is important cuz the two tests are really based on lectures. If you wanna bring up your GPA take this class.
He is a nice professor. His class is a pleasant experience.
he's the best. makes the class were interesting. Easy A if you put some time into it.
Prof. Guest is the man very very interesting class no notes mid. final and a museum proj. very easy A on all 3 no notes only review sheets and he tells u essays the day b4 the test. A class i really got to relax in sleep, watch movies, and discuss. r interesting time passes really quick in thisclass
DO NOT TAKE HIM. HE sucks.
He is a bit unorganized, which makes takeing notes very hard. His tests are very dtrail oriented, so be sure to ask questions. He knows his material, but not how to convey it that well.

he was so uncompromising during the midterm, he could have at least postponed the take home essay that was due the day of the test, i could not get laid during the week of the midterm
He's the best! his class is interesting plus he tells us what to study for on the tests
i do not like how he makes us go to places outside of class
No Comments
The whole thing about his study sheets is wrong. He tells us the essay topic only one day before class. The topics require more than one day of preparation.

He makes you work but you learn something too. He tries to make the immigration interesting when it really isn't but he's still a fun professor.
I HAVE NO CLUE WHAT THESE CRACKHEADS HAVE BEEN SMOKING! Prof. Guest is the MAN!! he is one of the best professors at Baruch. Made the class very fun, interesting, and i actually learned a lot. His book "God In Chinatown" is really good too. Just study the review sheets, read his book, take some notes, nd u'll do fine, no stressing so much! take him
seriously...ppl, two words: TAKE HIM
this professor was THE best!!! class was interesting. u learn and the grade comes easy.
Take him! He made us go to 1 or 2 museums but whoever didnt like that, Learn about the culture around you + STOP COMPLAINING! His exams require memorization of notes, so take REALLY good ones. He's FUN in class + you virtually cant go to sleep unless u took a pill b4 class. He repeats stuff u dont understand. I loved this class + recommend it 101%.
Great Professor, awsome lectures and dont even bore me!!!! You really learn something about the different cultures the only thing is that the test are mostly based on notes. His still great!!!!
His leture is alright, it did bored me, but an awesome teacher! has all these weird joke. tests are easy but u need to take GOOD notes in his class. projects ar fun to do
He tries to make the class as interesting as possible. I personally don't find him funny but he's alright. You have to take notes and attend as frequently as possible or better idea: borrow someone else's notebook before the tests and you'll do find. Gives very helpful review sheet.
If you want to learn, laugh, and walk away with a new perspective on the world, do yourself a favor and take him!
best anthropology professor ever!!!!!!!!11
Very good professor, interesting, funny, easy, take him if you can.
amazing prof!!!
amazing- one of the best prof at baruch
Very biased opinions when it comes to race relations. He thinks the Chinese are the best culture and that they're the next white civilization. Oh and according to him Indians from India are not Asian and they are not smart therefore are at the bottom of social stratification in the US! Simply put he favors the chinese students over anyone else!
Very nice man. Too nice in fact. Students walked all over him a bit, which was annoying. I wish I had met him under different circumstances so we could be friends though. As long as you pay attention in class, and do the reading, you will get an A.
Great Teacher! Gives out review sheets before exams. TAKE NOTES because the exam comes from your notes. Basically you gotta do 2 exams, attendance, ethnography (project, and a museum project. Piece of cake!
He asks little much for his class. ethnography report, museum project, midterm, final, and attendace are factored in. the tests are IDs and essay. Waiting for final, but so far he's an awesome professor whos ALWAYS there for you to talk about your problems in and out of class. hes very laid back and knows exactly a students perception in the world.
Hands down, if you take Anthropology, TAKE HIM! He's great. It might seem like he asks for a lot, but he DOESNT. He's an easy grader & as long as you TAKE NOTES its a piece of cake. I got a much deserved B+. Highly recommended. TAKE HIM!
Lectures were great but we also watched movies and slideshows. What can I say, Prof. Guest is awesome. Very interesting class.
Great professor, although has communist leanings.
Great guy- agree with statement about wishing we'd met under different circumstances. Super funny and sarcastic, great wit and sensibility. Sometimes tries too hard, though. Easy class, but fascinating too. Interesting discussions. Comments about political leanings or favoritism probably have some merit. He has opinions, why shouldn't he?
great professor. his reviews are all you need for the exams. don't buy the book. fun lectures. great experience. cares about students. easy museum project and research paper. got an A. def recommended to anyone taking ANT 1001.
He is not bad but not easy grader.
Great ands funny teacher have to do a big project about an immigrant institution which is due at the end of the year. You start it bit by bit so you won't have to do it all in one day. 2 exams were EZ just study;gives out study guides. Read 2 books, one is his, the other is pretty boring. Watch some documentaries about Fouzhounese immigration.
Very good professor. Knows his stuff and knows how to communicate well. Classes are fun and easy going. Not too demanding - Midterm, Final, 2 projects.
A Professor who will teach you how to think! Can't ask more than that from the college!
I agree with most of the people, he is a great professor. His class is interesting too. =) Two exams; one midterm and one final. Gives you a "review sheet" for each exam. And one ethnography report. Everything is pretty straightforward if you pay attention in class. Definitely recommend him.
besttttt professor ever! take him if you're ever lucky enough to get a spot in his class. definitely worth waiting an extra semester. interesting discussions-1 paper, 1 midterm, 1 final (or option to do paper instead) extremely helpful and understanding-- just respect him and dont take advantage cause he's an awesome person =)
Prof. Guest's class is definitely one of the best classes I took in Baruch. Very interesting lecture and discussion! He's a very passionate guy and he has a great sense of humor...so TAKE HIM! I GUARANTEE YOU WILL DO GOOD!
BEST PROFESSOR EVERRR!! He's soo funny and random that he actually keeps u awake. He's writing his own txtbook so u wont have to buy one, just 2 small books, one is written by him. Just pay attention in class and take good notes n u'll ACE this class
amazing professor and a great person all around! he is definitely qualified to teach anthropology- what a resume of experience! oh and chili peppers for you! =D lol
i was surprised that he speak chinese.. he is nice easy going. Not a lot of work , but u have to do the immigrantion organization thinggy.. which i didnt like. there is two exams, midterm and final. Some hws too not alot. U can lay back during the class =)
Great teacher, lay back class its easy to pay attention because class discussions are very interesting, copy good notes and your set, rarely hw 1 paper 1 midterm 1 final paper no final exam, final paper 7-8 pages about an immigrant organiztion that you involve yourself with during the semester, but this class is the the top of best classes
He's an awesome professor. He really gets the material across and he wants you to pass. He has deadlines but they're rough, nothing strict. He has a midterm and ten page paper on pretty much the topic of your choosing as long as it is an immigrant affiliated business... Irish Pub-Ellis Island... Really Fun Class
This guy sucks. You'll never be able to order Chinese food or buy anything made in China ever again if you take his class.
Hes great, u dnt have to worry about falling asleep in his class because his lectures are interesting theres 1 midterm a short paper and a 6-7 page final paper on an immigrant organization which can be a pain in the neck because u have to visit it, draw the block its in and interview the people there but its not bad i really recomend this class
Lenient w/ attendance & deadlines. Shows fun movies. Rarely takes attendance. Rarely gives back work. Gave tests back pretty late. Overall an ejoyable class though b/c he's interesting 2 listen 2 & u dont have 2 worry about ur grade; u'll do fine. U can get the book if u want, but u dont actually need 2. I recommend taking notes for test/paper.
THIS IS PROF IS TOTALLY AWSOME!. TAKE HIM !! the midterm is soooo easy , but u have to do the 7 page ... we can actually lay back and get ur notebook out and write sth . he likes students that write notes. i got an A.
Great Guy! 1 extremely easy midterm and a final 7-page paper but he is a very generous grader! Class discussions were very interesting and he almost never takes attendance. No textbook, no HW... I loved his class and I learned a lot from him!
amazing. i really enjoyed his class, he is so funny and inteligent. really cares about giving off knowledge. love himmm midterm not hard at all just study his notes
Greatest professor ever!!! smart, knowledgeable and extremely funny. easy midterm=1 essay+8 identifications; final paper=7 pages. Take him if you can!
This class was definitely interesting. Even as a frequent visitor to Chinatown, I've learned a lot more about it. Know that he takes forever graded material because he's extremely busy! You won't know how you're doing in his class either because there is nothing to grade until the midterm. Regardless, his class should be a top choice for IDC!
I LOVE GUEST!!! One of the best profs at Baruch. Def worth taking his class.Very down to Earth, enthusiastic, funny. No HW Just reading mostly. Won't regret taking his class. Advise: take good notes in class bcuz things he says are going to come up on the midterm. Only problem was the Ethnography. But it wasn't so bad!!! Plus he's not lenient grader.
he's onr of the greatest profs I ever met in my freshmen year, he can keep you weak up even you are so tired, class is so intereting
never have a met a man so interested in the Chinese culture. For this class, he is a great professor. Do ALL his little projects, follow directions, on time. READ his material. Midterm was a little ruff. but his final is a term paper. Work hard on that and should be an easy A. Take him!!
A very fun professor that kept the learning environment very pleasant and laid back. the lectures are crystal clear and always a joy to participate in. The workload is not that too bad, and the professor is a relatively fair grader. Highly recommended!
Great Professor one of the best at Baruch. He takes the class very seriously and expects you to do the same. Great class knows how to keep your attention. However, you have to pay attention, take diligent notes, and do good on the project. He is very approachable and very nice and sincere. Top Notch Professor.
Overall he is a great professor. Just sometimes lecture is kinda boring. A lot of work to do, go to the museum, write a paper. Then do the fieldwork proposal, mapping project,description,7 pages essay. And one midterm cover a lot of stuff..just exhausted!! However, those are quite easy. As long as you take good notes, participant and pay attention.
Very friendly and funny professor. He knows the materials well and likes class discussions. The class is very laid back because theres only 1 midterm and an ethonography paper, no final, no HW. Recommended!
Superior.I truly got interested in ANT after the class.Funny&knowledgable.He writes his own material and it was lots of fun to read, enhancing my cultural literacy.Midterm was A LOT to prep to be honest.A bit too much work for an entry class but truly life-changing.Became a bit dull after MT cuz no more his writing was distributed.Take him!
Sat near the back surfing the web. Pretty slow internet since everyone does the same. Never took a single note, but listen to him or you will miss key points and hints for the exam. Just study the outline as you would study an English Vocabulary exam. One museum homework and on paper. I finished the final paper before midterm. Free class after MT.A
Decent at teaching, although biased in terms of being overly liberal. Pay attention to his class of course, but don't believe all his ethical views (and I'm more of a liberal than a conservative).
Great teacher, nice guy, very interesting, loves his stuff, easy class, wants to help, cares about his students! Go for his class, you won't regret it!
In all honesty, he's a great professor in terms of being passionate on what he teaches. However, I would not say he's an easy professor. He expects a lot out of his students (which wouldn't be such a bad thing if anthropology was your major) but it's an introduction course. Take him if you have time to put in for his class.
Great professor, seems like a guy you would see in Jurassic Park. Very enthusiastic and gets distracted sometimes. The workload is minimal and he clearly states what is expected of you. Pay attention in class and study for the midterm and you will be fine. Ethnography was annoying but can accomplish in one week. Great class, take him!
His class is very fun. There are a lot of readings and long chapters. We had to do a semester long project which was 50% of the final. It was fun. Overall a very good professor.
Amazing professor. Very passionate about anthropology and tries to get students interested by using examples we can understand. End of the semester project does take work but he understands students cannot write an anthropological paper like anthropologists, especially within a short range of time. Just go to class, take notes, and participate.
Very nice professor. There was one midterm and 7-8paged ethnography. If you attend the class, follow lectures, and do the ethnography, an A is not difficult to get. I got an A. The class was sometimes a little boring, but most of the time, it was interesting to learn about Fuzhounese.
To those looking into a business major or studying fields relating to sociology, psychology, etc., this class is worth it. The teacher focuses a lot about his fieldwork in China, but it's a great class, overall. It's suggested that you do get and read the assigned books, it'll help out a lot more than without.
Guest makes it easy to understand the various topics he teaches, and really wants to make sure students understand the course. At times the class can be boring, but for the most part, it is fun.
Very little to no feedback. He tries to keep the class entertained and joke around but he does not grade easily. It was a requirement for me to take his class and I would not do it again if I could. Honestly I am surprised by his overall ratings
Fun to be in class because he is extremely entertaining and passionate. But he is not clear and expects students to write ethnography without much help. Not much clarity or help. Got an A- but it wasn't too easy. Harsh grader
such a great professor!!!!!! take him!!!!!!
Simply put, he's the man! And he makes class very, very interesting
Not the easiest class but he knows his stuff and will help you pass. You wont fail if you pay attention.
Good guy. Only a few projects that are worth a lot. So make sure you do them well. He is really not flexible with your grades. If you are 1 point away from the next grade up he will not give it to you. Only negative though
he is really funny guy. Classes are never boring. Concept and exam are hard, but he explains well and really help you understand the concept. Would definitely take him again. Very nice and respect students. Awesome prof ever.
He's funny and tries to engage the class. Lectures can get long and boring. He has an incredible laugh. Midterm wasn't to bad and the final is a 7 page paper.
- Expect long textbook readings - 1 midterm based on ALL class material & readings (all short answers; definitions w/examples, 1 essay) - No final exam - 7 page ethnography paper on an immigrant organization (plus research, interviews, mapping, fieldwork data collection) - Engaging lectures - Good notes are essential to passing midterm
Long lectures but he's entertaining and funny. I was scared at first because he did write the textbook himself so I thought he expected a lot out of us but as long as you study hard for the one test he gives (midterm) and actually put in work into the papers he assigns, you'll be fine!
He's a very nice man. Gives a few papers, but isn't 100% clear about what he wants, so don't get depressed if you get 80-90%. The only test is the midterm and it covers everything since the beginning, so reading the textbook is very important. Honestly, I didn't read one page and i busted an A-, but it was a struggle to get that grade. So read
Engaging in class but was not specific in what he wanted in assignments such as the midterm or the final paper. Be ready to read and take notes on his lecture as every little detail is important for the midterm. Also, you have to do the readings daily for the quizzes in the next lecture.
He's a quirky guy but his lectures are interesting most of the time. There are those days where you want to fall asleep. Tough grader on the midterm. You have to write an ethnography (6-7 pages) that counts as the final.
amazing personality. overall workload is a bit heavy.
DO NOT BE RECKLESS ABOUT THE MIDTERM!!! (tough grade). Anyway, he is an awesome professor. You would love the class. Then, when the semester over, you would miss his class so baddddd.
One midterm and a final paper. a quiz every 1-2 weeks but it's online so its not that hard. Midterm and final are very big parts of the grade. Personally, the midterm was easy but the final paper was difficult. Lots of fieldwork to do but its not too difficult. Interesting class overall
Really annoying professor, and class overall. When I met with him one on one he didn't really seem like he got what I was talking about - seems like he's in his own little world. Class had irrelevant information, easy material but really annoying to take.
Ken Guest is very passionate about his subject, but sometimes so passionate that he only sees his side of things. When people try to share their opinion that is opposite his, he dismisses the opinion or changes it to be what he wants to say. You have about 40 pages to read each week and take an online quiz on, and the midterm is CRAZY hard
Guest is a funny intelligent guy who really cares about his students. He walks around the campus with a grin on his face looking like a madman but he is really smart. Would deff take again
Incredible professor! He has the abilty and talent to enage a lecture hall with over 100 students. Makes the matireal exciting and doesnt feel like a boring lecture. His assignments are hands-on and fun like visiting a museam. He is funny and cool and truly passionate and knowledgable about anthropology! 10 out of 10 take!!
Took this professor Fall17 for ANT3035. One midterm, a play review and a final project. The final project has two components; video and paper. Professor Guest has a lot of interesting stories from studying chinese culture both in Chinatown and in China. Lectures are really interest. Participation is encouraged. He is a fairly easy grader as well.
He is an amazing lecturer. He really cares about what he teaches as he wrote the textbook. If you read it and keep up you will do well. 50% of the grade is a cumulative midterm which is given before the withdrawal deadline. If you do well on it you will do good in the class. At the end you need to write an ethnography on research, listen in class.
Lectures feel really long, most of the time his students are on their phones and dont really care, a harsh grader unless he likes you. Required quizzes and field projects. Midterm was graded harshly and it makes up 30% of your grade at least.
Guest is very passionate about what he teaches, and he tries to engage his students the best way he can. There's a lot of reading in his class, and he didn't give us any quizzes or a midterm (I guess because of covid??) Your biggest grade is that final ethnography project.
Prof. Guest is one of the nicest professors I've had. He is an anthropologist so he has a lot to add to class discussions and values student feedback. There is a lot of reading and homework assignments, but there's no final on the material, just a paper that checks your understanding of the main anthropological topics.
He's a great guy. Cares about what he teachers and really explains concepts well. Get on his good side and he will really help you. He isn't a push over so dont be dumb in his class and cheat. Not a hard class at all. Weekly homeworks, final project/ essay which you start working on from the beginning of the course. Show you learned smth, ur fine.
Despite the pandemic the professor was kind and understanding and showed he cared about his students. He meshed well with the online class and gave plenty of time for assignments, along with clear instructions for assignments. He does use his own textbook though it is pretty well written so it's a 10/10 for me
He is a very sweet and caring professor. He gives extensions if you ask him, even on the final paper. The homework is very simple and easy to do. Pay attention when he talks about ethnographies since you'll have to write one for the final essay. He knows Chinese/Fuzhou and lived in China for years so his research is on China/Chinatown.
Guest seemed frustrated that ppl didn't open their cameras (despite CUNY's policy). He gave us pop quizzes when some obv didn't read. The midterm was based on class discussions and a rlly close reading of heavy texts & citations were necessary Final assignment is a 12-15 pg research paper. Most demanding IDC I've ever taken. Maybe bc its capstone?
Prof Guest is very enthusiastic about his teaching. I love attending his class bc I learn so much! It's very demanding tho and he makes u work for ur grade. His readings are heavy and the tests are difficult but not impossible. The paper is divided into segments. Just do your work and attend his class you'll be fine.
This class was unnecessarily annoying. He assigned long boring readings the night before class and expected us to have time to do them. Got mad because people didn't turn on their cameras. He's a nice guy but this class was more work than it had to be. 25% of the grade is a 15-page paper. Barely gave us any grading criteria until a week before due
Don't take him unless you're very passionate about and enjoy anthropology. He's a nice person but completely overloads us with work. We get assigned to read 30 pages from the textbook per class.
Professor Guest was very knowledgeable on this topic and is kind to his students. However, the synchronous format made this a challenging class for both him and the class. The course wasn't as structured when it came to topics, assignments, and deadlines. Communication could have definitely been improved.
The ethnography is so difficult LOL and his lectures are so long he's so talkative and he's really passionate about anthropology + the textbook costs money
Very tough grader. The assignments are very long and there are many assignments. Would not take again. Did not feel I got the grades I deserved
All the information you need about the class is in the syllabus. The lecture is long and filled with a lot of information but he tries to keep his students engaged and jokes around a lot. There were a lot of assignments but only the ethnography project assignments were difficult, so put in the effort cause he strictly grades that part.
Class was really interesting even though it was online the whole semester. Professor made the lectures interesting and engaging. Class is a lot of work and definitely better suited for someone who is interested in anthropology. Final paper was difficult, roughly graded.
His lectures online are very lengthy and doesn't use powerpoints but I found that I never really needed to write down notes. Theres no tests but there is a final paper that you have to write that includes one of the topics throughout the course. Easy A even if you hand in all the assignments late
Don't be fooled by the high rating! He is a terrible professor! Professor Guest's class might seem fun in the beginning, but as the semester goes on, you will start dreading going to his class. Very lecture heavy, and does not mention the homework or final at all. HE MENTIONED THE FINAL PAPER TWICE AT MOST AND GIVES US NO RUBRIC OR INSTRUCTIONS
Took him for spring 22 and never posted a review. Worst professor ever. Never answered emails and was so unclear about what was expected of us. I understand it's a capstone class but we focused on what he enjoyed talking about (Chinatown), not anything to do with NYC in the 21st century as the course description reads.
The class was straightforward. The homework consisted of journals and Inquizitive. Readings can take an hour but you can skim. There are no exams or quizzes and the material is not difficult. Prof. Guest's lectures are basically just summaries of the chapters. For the final ethnography he clearly states what he is looking for.
Hw was tedious, and he rarely replied to emails. Also wasn't that clear and helpful with the final paper, but is doable as long as you show a basic understanding of the class. Despite this I very much enjoyed his lectures, as he was passionate and funny. Just put in the effort on the final paper and online quizzes ands you'll be fine.
I took him for Fall semester, his class is lecture heavy and he tries to share his real life experiences and also tries to make the lectures interesting. There are hws every week. He had Covid during the end of the semester which made it difficult to contact with him regarding any course related issues but overall he was a great teacher.
Professor Guest is an utter disgrace to teaching. The final ethnography was far too difficult, and he is not open to extensions. Furthermore, he is extremely irritable. When I asked him about the due date for a homework assignment, he became visibly frustrated and threw his racial research papers at me. However, he is a knicks fan so he's cool.
He's amazing and funny. I loved listening about his experiences around the world.
Not so bad. Just do the homeworks and you'll be fine. Final paper not really hard, the rubric helps.
Professor Guest was a very engaging professor, his lectures were always very amusing and entertaining. The only downside I would say is that the homework seems a little tedious, and it's very hard to get an A on the final. Overall, very kind and fun professor, my favorite class of the semester, would take again
he reminds me of doofenshmirtz. he is a good teacher tho
His lectures where fun and engaging however he gives a lot of work and rarely answers email. But after all everything is pretty straight forward.
He gives 3 major projects and small assignments throughout the course. Professor Guest is very flexible and will allow extra time for assignments. The class is lecture oriented. Overall and easy and interesting class.
Funny stories, and his lectures are just basically a discussion about the textbook he gives you to read for homework. Though he is not too clear sometimes abt his assignments. Also he reminds me of gene wilder Willy wonka 1971 but a chad
Grading criteria isnt very clear so grades are very 'subjective.' You can submit stuff late which as was plus. There is A LOT of weekly assignments- more than my OPM class lol. We had no tests just a bunch of assignments and one 7 pg paper at the end.
I enjoyed the class and the laid-back atmosphere. The professor is engaging and funny, often repeating what we read in the book. He allows late submissions without penalty. The coursework is well-distributed: Ethnography Paper (25%), Fieldwork Journal (25%), Participation (20%), and assignments (30%). Overall, the class is chill and enjoyable.
The class is pretty chill with a laid-back professor who often references the textbook in his engaging lectures. Assignments are manageable - I found unstuck ai super helpful for study prep.
Professor Guest is an amazing professor. He is an Anthropologist with decades of experience on his hands, making him a credible lecturer. The course is seminar based, (course thrives on collaboration and participation from students). He really gets you out of your comfort zone, and the classroom is a welcoming environment to all. Has trips too!!
Amazing professor, very inspirational. I suggest all students take his classes. You will thank me.
An amazing and compelling professor if you're looking for a class that'll make you think. I agree with the person who says he's kinda like Gene Wilder's Willy Wonka.
