Really nice guy. Goes the extra mile for his students. Too bad he isn't teaching there after this semester.
He is one of the teacher that don't know how to do his job. He don't know how to teach and even have enough knowledge to even teach organic chem. You will Learn absolutely NOTHING in the class because he don;t know how to teach and He just copy other people note and don't know what he talk about
He is absolutely very nice and easy. In the lecture, he might not do very good job...i mean he doesnt really explain very clearly if you do not have clear sense in chem. But he is very willing to help if you go up to him. Mayb his english is not tat good but...well enough to understand =P thinks for students, postpone exam if students ask for.
DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER!!!!!!! he does not know what he is doing! he is very unorganized does not know how to imput right grades!!! does not understand anything you try to explain to him! DO NOT TAKE HIM!!!
after u get used to his accent u will like him for sure, flexible, easy, fun but learn a lot, just go to his office or email him whenever u need help, funny too sometimes, he might not tearch very deep in chem 50, but he tells u everything u NEED to know. THIS GUY ROCKS!
Really nice guy. Easy, fun class. Doesn't explain in depth, sometimes u get confused, but he'll always help u out. Not too much hw, plus he'll give extensions if you ask and even postpone the exams. Gives extra credit and labs are easy. Not the most organized guy though. Gives you a lot of candies and chocolates.
The class is very easy as long as you attend everyday. Easy A as long as you do as he says. Test are easy, if u get below 70% he lets you retake. Tries very hard to pass everyone, but people just don't want to be helped. Overall nice guy makes Chem fun and easy. Awesome teacher, always wants to help. TAKE HIM!! KENNY ROCKS
This professor provides assistance to the student who thrive to succeed in the classroom. Provides a reasonable and fair generosity to all the students' efforts. Funny thing is that the people who underrated this professor was in low/lowest division of chemistry. Can't expect much out of them =P
he is definitely an awesome teacher and tries EVERYTHING for you to understand and get a good grade. Organic chem is a really hard class but he will help you in any way he can. he also gives extra credit, curves, doesnt give homework (fr the book). Oh, and his analogies are the BEST!! definitely take him..
He is definitely the most helpful professor in the Chemistry Department. He tries everything you can think of to help you understand O'chem. Not only he is a great professor but he is also a wonderful person. very friendly and understanding.
Kenny is so awesome! Although his clarity isn't exactly top-notch, he tries his best to MAKE SURE that ALL of his students understands the material. Of course, his class isn't too much of an easy one 'cause it does require studying, but what I loved most was Kenny was willing to help and he makes you feel comfortable enough to ask! I got an A.
i have been often compared to someone with down syndrome and i was actually able to pass the class! he wants you to pass the class so he allows you to retake tests below 70 percent as many times as you want. excluding the final of course. great teacher, hard subject.
This teacher is selfish, and unaccomodating! I was trying to enroll in one of his classes, and even though he had the power to add me, he refused! What kind of educator does not want the best for his students?? Awful.
By far the worst professor I have ever taken! I don't know what all of these other raters are talking about! He must have gotten his PhD online because he has no idea what he is talking about. Picks favorites, doesn't have a syllabus, changes how much assignments are worth last minute, and doesn't tell you when things are due until the day before!
No definite schedule of when exams, quizzes and hw are due. Teaches you the basics but tests you on the details. Exam is not representative of lecture or textbook problems. Hardly ever wrote/explained on board. Lecture is useless unless there's a pop quiz-which there was sometimes. He's a nice guy, but beware of mood swings.
Lectures are useless. He doesn't prepare anything, simply reads the book aloud, so it's pretty much story time. Makes it clear he doesn't want to do any work outside of class. Final had some problems we never learned. Labs were just as unorganized as he spent most of the time grading. end of semester he panicked and dumped a bunch of work on us.
horrible teacher. takes out his bad days on his students. if you ask him a question, his answers make you more confused. cares too much about "covering everything" rather than "understanding everything". almost like we have no professor during lab cuz he just grades the whole lab section. you NEVER get out of class early. DO NOT take this TEACher!
BAD,wants u have prior knwldg, upset bec I never had chem in HS,mocked "where did u go 2 schl",very degrading & demeaning if u ask 4 help bothered by questions, uses lab 2 grade, forced fast students 2 help slow to finish office wk,used chem 80 prob on final, used to have a good rep,he said some class took advantage of him & now he is not nice anymore
If you speak English you should not take this class. The man speaks a hybrid of Chinese and English. Look just take it from me, your spending 27 dollars per unit at least spend your money on something you can understand. Take it from Kenny himself "If don't know friendly ask your friend"
Never draws out any mechanisms on the board. That's equivalent to a math teacher never walking over to the board and showing you how to work out problems. AVOID!
CUURRRRVVVVEEE!!!! He curves every test. Just go home and study and this class is not that hard. Cool guy, good teacher. He is hard to understand at times but ehh deal with it. Good professor.
please aviod this professor... he never explains the mechanisms.. and exams are really hard..
he simply cannot teach and cannot explain the material. He never prepares for the class and underestimate the students. totally de-motivates pre-med, chem, science majors if they don't do well. NEVER EVER take his class even if his class is the only chem class in the world!
He has an accent that takes getting used to and he tends to be confusing in his lectures. If you're no chem genius, plan on reading the txtbook and doing the hw to do well on exams. He offers exam retakes if you have trouble. Also maintains a website where you can check your grade. Seems genuinely interested in his students succeeding in the class.
learned on my own the entire semester...recieved help outside of class but still wished i would have recieved more help in class..lectures were pointless shuffled back and forth thru chapters..prepare to study..its doable!!! kenny wants u to succeed...but wish he had a better way of teaching chem...read the chapters and u'll do ok
kenny is a genuinely good person. I learned a lot in the class but it was mostly on my own reading the textbook. I got an A in the class by reading the textbook, but i also had some outside knowledge so idk. Try hard and youll get a decent grade.
Nice Professor. Read the chapter before he lectures and it'll be really easy. Made me love chem. He is willing to help you whenever you ask for help. He gives out a lot of worksheets which really help, and he gives out candy! Other than that be sure to do your homework and read, and the class should be easy
He's a very nice and friendly professor. However, his accent takes getting use to. If you're confused you might need to teach yourself from the book or ask a classmate.
Excellent professor! We all love Kenny, coolest professor on campus. He grades fairly easy and his accent is funny. If you don't understand, ask your friend! He system of teaching and grading is kind of like the UC system which is cool because his class will prepare you. Awesome guy!
Kenny isn't the best teacher but this class isn't hard & he wants you to succeed! He's very nice & patient. If you're not good at Chem you'll have to study hard but that's life. Clear about his expectations, gives study guides for each test & drops one. Attendance is mandatory, he gives quizzes in class. HW is from the book, get the right edition!
Kenny is not THAT hard to understand and I think some people are being a bit unfair. He is a really nice professor and he REALLY wants you to succeed. He will give you every opportunity to do well in his class. OChem isn't easy but Kenny can help you do well in his class. Everyone loves him. I did have to re-learn a lot when I got to Chem 81 though
learning done almost entirely on ur own. chem dpt came after him since his passing students understood so little of the intro material. tests curved like crazy. no direction/consistency at all. "would u friendly ask ur friend, 'do u understand?'" take him if u just need the credit. avoid if u need to actually learn the material for higher divs.
could be a tough professor, but really tries his hardest to help. knows his stuff, but really thick accent. however, if he sees you making the effort then he will try his best to help you. gives study guides for each exam, goes by majority rule for when homework is due or when to take tests.
Of all the talented applicants who desperately fight for a college level teaching position, why did they hire this guy? He is very disorganized, delivers vague lectures, and can't speak English! If you think you can wing by via studying off the book, you are wrong. Some of his test materials came straight out of the internet that he never covered!
horrible professor, just walk out of the class and find a different professor
Absolutely horrible experience! Cannot teach at all! All the test are online and not from the book. He has a really thick accents, while the textbook does not help at all. Definitely not a learning experience to succeed.
Since all the classes are filled, To those who enrolled Wessinger, you got trolled. Ignore the comments in the bottom, for one that took him last semester and Wessinger in previous semesters, Kenny is by far not only better but best professor to help you. Good luck haters. LOVE YOU KENNY!
Woops. Forgot to post earlier. I love this guy. He knows his stuff, does everything he can to make sure people know the material & really helps during office hours. Ask questions & read the text! Omg..the text? YES! READ IT! It's not high school, you haters. Smile, enjoy the class and do your work. I hate how people complain about having to study.
He had a CHAPTER QUIZ EVERYDAY! He moved the exam a week AHEAD!!! HE doesn't explain the materials and tell us to go home and study. WHY CAN'T HE GO EASIER ON US?! We don't deserve this. NO one cheated or say anything mean to anyone else.
He's a nice guy but he is the worst professor I have ever had. He knows his stuff but his knowledge just does not translate into teaching. He never explains the stuff he's doing, and when you ask a question he tells you to "ask your friend" instead of explaining it himself (it's like he can't. If you actually want to learn, don't take this class.
Some people like him because he gives out ridiculous points. He is very good at pretending to be nice. In fact, i think he just want you not complaining about him to other people. You will not learn much from him. JUST READ THE BOOK. The 4th exam is from the UCS practice. Just go over the practice and you will get 100 cause its exactly the same
He goes off on tangents a lot. His lectures are long but he tries to make jokes to keep students interested. He tries to make analogies to real life applications. His study guides are basically his exams but with different numbers. He just doesn't give the answers. Extra credit after basically every exam.
Tests are tough but A LOT of extra credit. Reading the textbook is necessary to understand lessons. He drops one quiz and lowest lab, uses mastering chemistry but very lenient on due dates. Just ask him to move the due date for mc and he will. Don't bother asking questions, he'll just say ask your friends but he's kind and respects his students.
It is true that his lectures are not very inspirational. Pay a lot of attention to his lectures, and do not lose focus (it is easy to do so, believe me.) Be ready to read textbook a lot, and purchase some other supplementary study guides. I found that Organic Chemistry as a Second Language by Klein was especially helpful, ACS study guide also.
Kenny is a great guy and is extremely funny. He taught the material but a lot of times I had to go to the book to get a better understanding. He does expect you to do a lot of the stuff on your own, so if you're looking for an easy class, this isn't the professor to take. Overall, the class was fun and it definitely challenged me.
This class is moderate in work load. Definitely do have to study for the material, but prof. Huang gives extra cred. to all tests. However, I suggest sitting in the front because he does have a thick accent. And when you have questions, would always say "ask your friend" first.
Read thoroughly on pre-lab to prepare his pre-lab quiz. His teaching style is a standard UC style, since he used to teach at UCSB, which means you really need to read textbook by yourself a LOT. His test is moderately challenging duo to time pressure. Not recommending him if you don't have what it takes.
Ochem is hard, and he makes it worse. Lectures are horrible, thick chinese accent, and CANNOT explain concepts well. I went home to take notes from outside sources (youtube, textbook). He gives outrageous extra credit to boost your grade. Makes awkward analogies and jokes in class, not worth taking. Seriously, take ochem with another prof.
the best professor
like him
If you want an Atake him
He will drop the lowest test and quiz grade
He gives a lot of extra credit
make sure do not miss any lab
Here's the Chem 80 breakdown: He does teach the class in a UC style, meaning that he will be very brief when explaining material in lecture. He has a thick accent and his exams aren't the worst and gives ridiculous amounts of extra credit for each exam. Lastly: almost no homework. Hardest thing about this class were the lab quizzes.
One of the worst professors I've ever had. Don't get me wrong, he's nice, but his teaching style is little to no way interesting. He has a very thick accent that makes it hard to understand and whenever you try to ask questions, he barely ever answers them. He sidetracks A LOT and his inspirational stories are almost repetitive and boring. 4/10.
Here's the thing with this professor. He is a kind man. He's well intentioned. However, his job is explaining things to people so they can understand. He does not have the English skill to clearly articulate concepts that are as advanced as Chemistry instruction at a university level requires. He can't teach because he can't use the language.
I cant warn you enough against taking this professor. His accent is so thick that he is unable to clearly convey his instructions, and then he gets mad at the class for not understanding him. Hes nice and all, but you should take literally any other teacher if you want to be able to understand a single word thats being said.
Overall he was a good teacher. He really cares about his students and Chemistry. Very nice person and easy to approach. To do well in this class read ahead before lecture, don't miss any days because you will lose out on a lot of points, and be supper detailed on the prelab.
KING of Extra Credit. If you just need to pass the class take him, you won't fail, I promise you. Accent is prevalent and difficult to understand at times. Lectures aren't clear. Mostly a self study class. For labs you're on your own, he just lets you do it. He's a cool guy, just not the best professor.
Tons of extra credits. Boost grade 10%. He won't fail you. He doesn't teach well but his exams are based on lecture. He will tell you what he gonna ask and exact same questions (30 to 40 points) from the powerpoints. He takes lab quiz (prelab or post-lab) every lab and that's the difficult part or else lab is super easy. No HW. No formal report.
Kenny is super funny and I would def take him again. Chem was a tough subject to learn, but he gave SO much extra point opportunities that you will pass this class. There is a language barrier at times but don't worry, he is a super cool guy that wants his students to pass. Also, he is super flexible with due dates, grading criteria, etc.
Show up and you will pass. He works with you and is understanding.
Professor Huang doesn't have the best English however through the course of the class, it becomes easier to understand him.. not in a bad way though. Do the assignment, get the credit. Overall, it is an easy A, if you want to learn, you can, if not, you can breeze by. Also he's very easygoing with late homework, just make sure you let him know.
Professor Huang takes pride in making things more difficult than they need to be. During the pandemic he made so much more difficult which was the worst idea ever. He knows organic chemistry but he doesnt know how to teach, if you can take another professor, go for it, if not, prepare to suffer.
I dont remember if I ever wrote a rating but I took Professor Huang about 1.5 years ago. I hadn't been back to school for almost 10years and I took this course during the summer. It was intense but he put in a lot of effort in making the class fun and interactive. I would definitely recommend taking his chem class. He really tries to help you
Professor Huang does not have the best English but he is easy to understand. Making sure you show up and follow him, you will pass and get an A.
This professor's dry jokes are too funny. He does not even have to try and you will find yourself laughing. I hate chemistry with a passion but he will help you after class. The Material is difficult but his extra credit made a letter grade difference. He is a good teacher. Just ask for help and he will help you. I passed the class this time!
Professor Huang is very caring and ensures that his students understand the course in order to pass. There is a bit of language barrier but its not too difficult to understand him. If you communicate your needs for the course he will do his best to accommodate. He is a real gem, i loved taking his course and would retake again if i could!
Please do not take Huang if you have another option. His lectures are not clear, sometimes just flips through slides, and assumes students have complete understanding of material from previous days already. He laughs if students ask "stupid" questions and he won't help you in lab at all. He's a funny guy but you will be on your own for this class.
Would be different from each students some will like his style but the humor and the side talks were bit hard to tolerate in my case. He might work for you however.
Sometimes you have to take risks and give people chances. I'll have to admit when I first registered for his class I was kind of nervous but I'm glad my OChem 1 experience was with Kenny. Sure he has a strong accent but you get used to it. The subject is hard and you have to be willing to study, that's a given! TAKE HIM!
TAKE HIM. U won't regret. Believe me! Chemistry is not easy but I have never been stressed in his class. He tries his best to help students. He really cares. Do ur part to utilize YouTube for topics u dont understand. Attend STEM tutorial. U will be fine. I will take him again and I highly recommend him. THANK YOU Professor Kenny. Mt. SAC loves us
I love organic chemistry thanks to Dr. Huang. He knows how to pace and what problems to emphasize during lecture and tests so you can be prepared for the ACS Practice Exam at the end of the semester. He gives very little homework so you can study at your own pace and have time to study deeply, topics that interest you. Studying is a must!
Wonderful lectures with useful material. Labs are interesting, exams and quizs are in lecture material. I would take further classes in chemistry.
Taking Chem 40 in winter, Professor Huang is amazing, he cares his students, if you have difficulty just talk to him, he's very understanding and will help you out. Exams are based on the study guid. Can't think of any flaws he has. Just follow the pace, finish all the assessments and lab reports and you will definitely get and A.
Took chem40 during the winter semester and Professor Huang is a sweet, caring professor. He does go on side tangents but they usually end up being very important for the exams. He's quite clear on his instructions for exams and the labs are normally easy, so it's not difficult to get an A in this class.
Chem 10 is not the easiest course, but honestly, if you participate and try, you will pass with a B or higher. He gives pop quizzes for attendance, so just show up to class. He gives you extra credit after exams to add to your final score. There is a language barrier, but it's not too bad. I would highly recommend taking this class.
don't take. confusing lectures and labs, lectures consist of random information that has nothing to do with the exam,"ask your friend", exams have material from future chapters that haven't been covered yet, his excuse for you not doing well will be because of yourself but in reality he's just a terrible professor
Organic chemistry is honestly a difficult subject, especially if you are majoring in the humanities or art. Read the lecture slides before lecture day. Read the textbook on the parts that you did not understand in class. While Professor Huang is kind, the science requires an effective studying method. Read and review theories. Practice mechanisms.
lots of extra credit, gives answers for labs, doesnt take points when prelabs are wrong, "pop quizzes" are mainly so people show up - he gives the answers, tests are based on study guides that are around 250 questions (he picks 50) and you can use a cheat sheet. he opens assignments for you after the deadline. just do all the work, show up to class
Took professor H for basic chemistry and oh my god, for such a lecture heavy class, he absolutely sucks at giving lectures, he has a very heavy accent almost to the point where i cant understand what he's saying, and he constantly goes off topic and talks about something completely different than what he is trying to convey. Do not take.
CHEM 9: taking this class was supposed to be an easy class according to Professor Huang. Currently needing to take our second mid term, and its on stuff not covered in the book and not in any of his lectures. There are chemistry problems that will appear that you will have no idea to solve.
He's not the best at teaching but very easy to pass if you put in the work and use outside resources. Long study guides that reflect the exam .
Don't take his class unless you want to teach yourself everything. Everyone in the reviews isn't being honest, he picks and chooses who he is nice too and who he is willing to help when they need it. If you're having technical difficulties during an exam he tells you its on you and to figure it out. Picks and chooses who he truly helps.
Do not take him. He often teaches incorrect infos and never admits mistakes. He constantly changes previously plan and doesn't seem to care at all — sometimes giving surprise quiz. frequently late, saying he “needs to rest.”, takes personal phone calls during class and eats while teaching. He treats himself like a cold grading machine.
I would want him as a professor for nursing, he often gave second chances to students who missed out on things if you just communicated it, but know that he isn't helpful with tech problems or missing exams, which he tells you upfront, He gives points back on exams if you take the time to correct your errors.
Do not recommend.
