Teacher goes really fast. I have not taken a tes yet , but i will let you know how it goes. Talks alot about his memory research. Even teaches about it. Sometimes he teaches on stuff that has nothing to do with methods.... 2 exams thats it.
I didn't like this professor very much. He did move fast, but to be fair I took his night class in research methods. He seems to be interesting enough but a bit full of himsefl. I tried to talk to him after class but never got anywhere. His grading system consisted of two multiple choice tests during the whole semester. Lots of reading and memori
full of himself, will refuse to talk to u if u need help he'll tell u to go to the TA... class consists of midterm and final, a paper on a topic that HE picks, and then a lab... very sucky, lots of memorization, i recomment J. Todd for this course!!! i took malmberg and got a C, my friend took Todd and barely studied and got an A!!!
Terrible professor. Doesn't seem to really care about students. Not clear on his expectations of students, nor in his approach to teaching. Unapproachable. Disrespectful and rude. Wish I had seen his ratings from Iowa State which are just as bad as the ones he has received since he's been at USF. Obvious he doesn't enjoy teaching, so why bother?
THE WORST TEACHER EVER!!! do NOT take him!!! not even if you have no other choice! HORRIBLE!!!
horrible teacher, recommend don't take. doesn't explain things and moves fast. doesn't help you AT ALL too.
Dont take this class! Book is vauge, professor is unavaliable and talks more about memory and his research than what is needed for the class and tests. Moves quickly through lectures, and wont post notes. without lab i would have failed,i think that 1/3 of the class did not pass.
Ok...so I had him for Research Methods and hated him, but took him for cognitive b/c he's the only one teaching it. Without his powerpoint and TA's, he's actually a great teacher. It's interesting and he knows insane amounts of information on it. He's approachable too. Huge change to a great prof!
though he is insanely smart, he is a terrible teacher. he cannot relay the information clearly, or even answer any questions clearly. he frankly goes off in to tangents, and never even finishes his lectures. his first exam was 70 ? and it was insanely detailed. do not take him. he is not usto teaching undergrads and has unrealistic expectations.
Ok so I had him also for research methods and was not to fond of him, but now I have found that he is very helpful if you just let him know that you need the help.
This was the worst professor I have had at any of the three colleges I attended. He does not care about teaching or helping students. His main priority is furthering his research at any cost.
This is the worst teacher i have ever had. i had him last semester for that class he's not helpful at all. He even tells you in class, if you have any questions don't e-mail him contact your TA which is insane to me. Exams are really hard. Cannot explain at all. Run away from that teacher. It was a night class 3hrs not 1 day he gave a break.
Really wish I wouldn't have taken this class. It was very hard, there were no reviews on the tests, he did give the questions to all tests, but they were so tricky, I don't feel like it helped. All this class did for me is lower my GPA and screw my chances of grad school.
Very good professor! This class is not MEANT to be easy. It is tough stuff, but if you do the work with effort, you'll do fine. Ken is really clear when he teaches and makes sure to answer all questions. He makes class fun with great/interesting examples. I reccomend!

Not really into teaching, but not a terrible professor. The tests are OK, but pretty hard to get an A on. Take this class if you don't mind getting a B or a C, an A is really hard to get.
Before i took this class i looked on here and was really nervous. But now that I am almost done with it-he really isn't that bad. You just have to read the book, and the website that comes with the book has sample quizzes, which are exactly the same as most of the test questions. Paper is easy, just follow directions and you'll be fine.
I liked him. He referred to very interesting studies and was easy to follow. The class wasn't as hard as everyone is letting on. When I went over the notes before the exam I got a B and when I actually read the book I got an A. The paper is easy if you turn it in in sections during lab for comments.
This class is basically worthless if he is teaching. I am a great student and I get decent grades. When I took this class I was totally lost. He can't complete any ideas without going off on some sort of crazy tangent! He will not talk to you even if you have questions about his lectures ...he is very vague.
boring lectures!!! TAs are cool. easy class, ut not a god professor at ALL.
I was scared to take him when I read the ratings but i think he's a very good teacher. His lectures aren't that bad and though the class is difficult, as long as you read and study you will be fine. I've learned a lot from this class.
Great prof.....highly recommend.
I don't know why everyone is giving him such a bad rating! Malmberg was awesome, the lectures were interesting, my TA was really helpful, and the paper is a piece of cake if you can follow directions. He even curves the final grade based on the highest score in the class. I didn't think i'd get an A based on the reviews...but I did! Take his class!
Listening to him describe how to calculate the mean for over 30 minutes was nearly as horrifying as his outlandish mandatory attendance policy. However, he made it easy to get a good grade on the paper. Exams questions were baffling. I was motivated to get an A just to spite him! All in all, I highly recomend his class.
i dont know why people are giving him bad ratings! i think he was an awesome professor that made an uninteresting class interesting and made it as easy as possible. if you read the text you will ace the tests and the textbook is not so bad to read either. the TA'a are awesome and make the lab a piece of cake. i highly recommend taking him if possib

Really good professor. He was available anytime I needed help and gave good advice about how to get into grad school. Class was often boring but sometimes interesting. Mandatory attendance was a pain but helps boost your grade. I recommend him.
Almost didn't take class because of ratemyprof. I'm glad I did. I WORKED MY BUTT OFF. He gives you an opportunity through attendance to bring up your grade. I would've had a C..got a B. Drop your lowest test grade of 5. Do good on the regular ones so you don't have to take the cumm final. There is a ton of material. You need to know...everything
His class is very interesting!!! you will want to come to class everytime! he does take attendance and it is part of your grade. He has 5 test but 1 is optional. His test are kind of hard but as long as you go to class and read the book you'll be ok. Definitely study for test!! The consolation here is that he curves the grades so an A is possible
I almost didn't take him because of these comments. Yes, he takes attendence, but the score can help boost your grade. The tests are tough, but you only need to take 4 of the 5. Online lab assignments with each test help grades as well, and they're really easy. He is interesting and funny in lectures. Made an early morning class pretty fun!
Ken is a awesome person. I've taken him for two semesters Research Methods and Cog. Psychology, and I adore this professor. His exams are kinda tough and he doesn't give reviews, but a lot of the question come directly from the book and on the book website. DEFINITELY DO ONLINE BOOK QUIZZES! He does an overall curve at the end. STUDY THE BOOK!
Ken Malberg is a great prof. I had him for only Cog. not reserach methods, and I wish he tought more courses. He tests were only difficult if you didn't study. What do you all expect...its a upper level undegrad psy course...get over it. Hes awsome and I would reccomend him to anyone.
I really liked Dr. M. Tests were easy as long as you studied. I thought he was a hottie to!!!!
I would have no idea how anyone could say anything bad about this professor. His lectures are very clear, he answers all questions in class. His lectures are on test but if you read the book you are guaranteed an A+. Tests are over main concepts and terms. I have taken him twice and made A+ both classes.
This professor LOVES to talk about his own research. . . over and over again. So be ready for it. It is a pretty easy class but be ready to fully know the info. This is a psychology course and what I don't understand is why he puts down clinical psychologists. The only ones he shows respect for are the cognitive psychologists.
Boring class but its mandatory & he does a pretty good job teaching. Attendance is mandatory or you will lose attendance points. Tests aren't extremely difficult but it takes more than just memorizing vocab words.
Malmberg is one of my favorite professors. He's brilliant. And he helps you if you ask. If you're interested in psych and ambitious, take his class!
Fantastic teacher! makes things interesting even though the subject is so boring. Gotta read the text book, but it's mostly memorization
Exams are based on the book so you MUST read and understand the book. Online website for the book helps tremendously. Classes are boring but attendance is mandatory- he reads off his power point. His TAs do all the work and grading. He doesn't seem helpful or interesting in your progress in class..There's also a 20 page paper due so beware!
Dr.Malmberg is a really cool person but his lectures really dont relate to his tests at all! attendance is mandatory for a big portion of your grade! Trust me you'll want to study for the class before you take the class! Its very tidious and stressful! GOODLUCK!
Dr. Malmberg is great! He tries his hardest to make a completely boring subject just a tad bit exciting(research methods). Attendance is mandatory(although I think you can miss 3 classes without penalty). Pay attention, read the book(its a must), and keep up with your paper! Tests are a bit hard, but overall its a good class.
This class wasn't too bad. The teacher knows what he's teaching, and is very clear on what he expects from the class. Attendance isn't mandatory, but you'll receive an extra 75 points if you don't miss more than 3 classes and 1 lab. Tests aren't made to get 100 but if you read the text, and pay attention/take notes you'll do fine. I got a B.
Dr. Malmberg is a nice guy and a good teacher..but his class is HARD! I would say this was the hardest class in my whole college career. The TAs do all the grading and he has no idea about anything other than his lectures. His lectures really don't help prepare you for the test..you have to study the book..but the tests are very hard.
Dr. Malmberg is great. He's very clear about his expectations, and is really fair when he grades. You definitely need to read the book and study for tests, but Dr. Malmberg makes the material easy to understand. There is an attendance grade, but class goes by pretty quickly. Dr. Malmberg is really helpful and a good lecturer.
Difficult class. But he is a great teacher. He makes the lectures interesting and keeps you up at 8:30 in the morning. But you really need to read, study, highlight, paraphrase, ANYTHING YOU CAN THINK OF in the book. Try to read the book BEFORE the lectures so you can understand better. And study hard for the tests.
I'm trying to understand how writing a 20 page paper makes a class not bad and the professor great
Malmberg is great! He made this class so interesting! Attendance is not mandatory, but if you miss 2 classes or less, you get a free 50 points! Plus there is opportunity to get another 50 points too. Not only that, be he grades on a curve. Just make sure you attend class and read the book and you'll do fine.
The class is HARD! But he does make it interesting.
I loved Dr. Malmberg! He is funny and tries to keep a really dry curriculum interesting. There is a 20 page paper, but it's broken down into sections so it isn't bad. He really cares about his students and will help you if you ask for it. I got an A. Make sure to read before class and to go to class. Highly recommend taking him!
Dr. Malmberg is a very good professor. The 20 page paper that everyone is talking about is not mandatory for it to be 20 pages, actually the T.A.'s prefer it to be less seeing as they are the ones grading it. Like everyone prior has said though, read the book or fail the class.
I really disliked this teacher, he took random attendance so attendance was mandatory, yet the things he lectured on were never on the exams. 6 exams throughout the semester. And he made them tricky. I managed a B because of the curve and the lab. Take the other professor, not him.
For the love of God and all things that are holy, DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. I am a good student and I usually get A's or B's and even I thought this was HORRIBLE. This guy rambles doesn't really care about his students. If he hates teaching so much then he should find another profession. Heed my advice, take this with someone else.
Horrible. RUN!
He was an enjoyable teacher, I took this class over the summer at 8 am and still managed to make it to class everyday and pay attention. He's very interested in the material and has done research in the field as well. I would recommend this class for a moderately easy and interesting class in the psychology department.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR!! Most of his slides are pointless and his lectures often go off topic. The text book is definitely needed because this class is self taught. Work really hard on the research paper and lab assignments to get a good grade in the class.
Love this professor. Can't say enough good things about him. Highly recommend!
Love this professor! Malmberg is excellent. Can't say enough good things about him. Highly recommend.
Definitely need to read the textbook and attend class. Also if you keep up with the TA sessions the paper really is a breeze. Class curve helps a lot.
The quiz and test questions are EXTREMELY ambiguous. I would not recommend this online course to anyone. I am typically an A/B student and I am doing horribly in this class, I might get my first and only C in my college career thanks to this joker.
This is the worst professor I have ever experienced. His inability to properly read his own lecture notes contributes to the ambiguity of his lectures. Tests and quizzes have many trick questions and there are so many misspelled words, hyphens and unnecessary symbols intermixed with the text that the test itself is a distraction! AVOID!!!!!!
This was the worst professor that I have ever taken. DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER. I have gotten A on every psychology class and this class is horrible. This professor does not respond to emails and does not care about his students. I repeat do not take this teacher..
Gives one hour for everyone in the class to take exam. Lectures are ineffective & convoluted (stutters, doesn't properly convey message, lecture stops abruptly midsentence). Quizzes & exams are poorly written & edited. I really enjoy the subject & the textbook; wish I had a more competent instructor. By far the worst college experience I've had.
Terrible, awful, no good!! Do not take this class with this professor! The quiz questions are tricky and ambiguous and there is not enough time to complete exams! I am an A student and struggled with this class! He does not care that you are struggling and will do nothing to help you. Do not take!!!!!!!
I like the subject and I did learn however this class stressed me out. The quizes are all true/false and do not help when it comes to the exam. There is not enough time to take the exams, 60 questions in 45 minutes. Even with his grading curve I earned a C, my first at USF. Think long and hard before you sign up for this online class.
I took him for research methods and looked him up a couple semesters later to take cognitive psych with him! Highly intelligent, helpful, funny, wise, and clear. If you're the kind of person that enjoys a good lecture and like to be challenged with your thoughts, TAKE HIM!! He's great!
Malmberg is a good instructor to have for an online course. Unfortunately, so many online classes have easy look-it-up tests, so somebody that actually has challenging ones gets crucified for making you learn. No reason to get a bad grade in this course if you actually put effort into studying as if it were an on-campus course.
I was really scared of taking research methods with Malmberg after reading some of the other ratings, but he's a funny guy (he even joked about his bad reviews) who gives interesting lectures. If you go to class, read the book and study a little bit it's an extremely passable class and quite enjoyable. I would definitely recommend this professor!!
Great course to take. The tests are difficult but if you study you will pass with a high grade!! Professor grades on a curve.Class is interesting and enjoyable! I will definitely be taking this Professor again. He gets a bad rap because he expects you to know the material.
He makes an interesting topic boring and stressful. Exams are expected to be taken in 45 minutes with 60 questions so if you are a slow reader, prepare to fail. Also, you may get answers wrong due to the spelling and punctuation errors on the exams. Oh yeah and don't bother emailing him because he won't respond. A+ student, I'm telling you to run!
The course material itself is fairly straightforward and his humor makes time passes quickly in lectures.exams are absolutely horrible, though. All multiple choice would seem easy or at least reasonable, but the ambiguity in his wording and the fact that there are only about 40Q's make getting an A nearly impossible.A+ student struggled immensely!
Malmberg is a really good teacher, his powerpoints are very clear and he makes his lectures interesting by not just reading off the slide. I'd recommend taping him or writing down what he's saying. Also, read the book. His tests are hard but if you readreadread everything over and over you should be okay! I'd recommend him, for sure.
This class ia absolutely terrible. What he says in the lectures and what is in the book are two different things. When you ask what to study, he says to know everything. IMPOSSIBLE to get an email response, the only way to talk to him is corner him after class. Find a different professor if youre going to take this class.
(Online class) DO NOT take this professor. His tests are nothing like the any of the material. I would read all my chapters, make notes, and study previous quizzes and still failed ALL my tests and I am an A/B student and like to keep my standards for studying high. I am more than disappointed with this class.
Took online course for his Cog psych class, most impossible course ive taken! Im a senior and 3.5 gpa student and did horrible in this class! Only help offered was "study study study" & never replied to my concerns after that. Dont take it if you want to save your GPA!
Just study the book really hard before each exam...most questions are straight out of the textbook's question bank. Dr. Malmberg knows his stuff, but he obviously cares way more about research than teaching or being a mentor. I was shocked that he wouldn't give me a letter of rec even though my final grade was 100% in the class, with the curve.
Best advice I can give is read and re-read the book. Many questions on tests are from practice questions in the book. PPT only cover what he thinks we may have trouble understanding...STUDY AND READ!!! 5 exams (lowest can be replaced by final exam grade if higher than another score). No help outside of class though...will refer you to your lab TA.
Overall a good prof., just make sure you keep up attendance.
refuses to answer questions in a helpful manner. for a psych prof, creates too much anxiety with tests, would think he would understand how to create a low stress environment.
Attendance mandatory, but since you just need to give a card with name, date and section you can just wait till class is over to avoid lecture if u find it boring. Lab fairly easy, though tedious at times. Exam materials largely technical in nature. Curve helps. My C-B became an A.
Took him for his cognitive online class(6 week class). The highest test score someone got was a 90 on our smallest test, the rest were in the low 80s. The only way you can get a good grade in this class, is if everyone else does bad too. A lot of homework plus you have to know everything from the book. Really hard class to take during summer.
Quizzes and Labs are easy points. There were many times where he seemed to lose his focus during lectures. Tests were extremely hard and had nothing to do with the lectures. Very difficult to determine exactly what to study for the tests. On the up-side, he curves. I am an honor student and I got the lowest grade that I have ever received.
Had him for 2 classes. 98% in both. Just read the book and you will be golden. Does ramble in lecture, but it's amusing most of the time. Not a difficult class at all. His online class (Cog Psych) has strictly timed tests, so you must be a fast reader (50 questions in 40 minutes).
Took Cog Psych online. Pretty tricky class cause of Malmberg. Mini quizzes for every voice lecture. LOTSSS of quizzes! Not many Qs per quiz. Quiz Qs come from lecture but are worded weird, tricky Qs which isn't fair. Exams are from the BOOK, pretty hard and wordy with not much time. (40 Qs 45 min). Also CogLab online experiments (EASY points).
Boy do I regret taking this class over the summer and for my last class before graduation. I have to say, one of the most difficult classes I have taken in psychology. The exams barely give you any time, and the material is dense. Probably would not tell anyone to take this class if you are not interested in physiological psychology.
for a summer 6 week course there is A LOT of work. 46 quizes. The quizes are based off lecture, the exams off of the book. The exams give LITTLE time to complete. 60Q in 60min. If you are not a fast test taker it will be difficult to finish in time. He did respond to an emailed question and i admit i was surprised. Be prepared to WORK in this class
The most impossible class ever. Aren't professors suppose to want to see you succeed? Not this guy, he words questions funny and tricks you. Would not take this class again.
Im going to be honest here, im an average student and i got a B in this class while taking 5 other classes. He is fair, and this is all that you have to do: REA THE BOOK! WORTH IT! especially for the exams. Know the concepts, the people who did the studies , and vocal. Best advice, write it all on word. for quizes, use the doc format of the lecture
Class was very interesting and his lectures seemed ridiculously EASY but the tests were completely unfair and difficult. I average a 3.5 and this class (with him) was not a class id suggest. super tricky
I took this course online and found it to be quite possible to get an A if you know what to expect. So here it is: His quiz questions can be tricky so read them carefully. Also, in his exams he includes a lot of questions about random studies in the chapters. As long as you read and keep up, and A is attainable.
Professor Malmberg seemed stand-offish at the beginning and his ratings made me skeptical about this class. However once the semester took off, this professor was very help and the material was also concise with the book and quizzes. A word of advice do the work and you will pass the class with a high grade!
The class is not tricky. An A in the class is very obtainable. I did not read the book extensively and was able to pass with A. He will replace your lowest test grade with the cumulative final. Reading the book was not hard, lectures are brief and quizzes aren't bad either. Exams were fair. Do the work and you'll get an A.
Really awesome professor, very passionate about his subject and explains the material well. The quizzes are a tad tricky but I got 100s on most. The exams do pull from the book, not just from the slides like the quizzes. Make sure you do the labs online, they are free points and often entertaining.
There are spelling errors throughout quizzes, tests, lectures and dates are from last semester in syllabus. 60 mins for 60 questions is unattainable, especially when each question is a paragraph long. Questions are ambiguous. I am an A student and this course destroyed my GPA. You would need to already know the answers to each question to get an A.
Professor is unhelpful when it comes to pertinent issues. Will not even lift a finger to try and asset with anything that you need help with. My best advice is to take another professor that will give you same credit, because this professor is cares absolutely nothing for his students.
I took Cog. Psych with him online, and DEF TAKE HIM. His quizzes all come from his lectures, and exams are not hard! Do the work, and you'll def get an A!
You need to come to class. He gives you a free 50 points for attending at the end of the semester and every point helps. Also, his lectures are random and off topic and his lecture slides are irrelevant. It will benefit you to read the chapters before coming to class so you're not lost. Do all that and you'll survive the class.
I'll admit he's hysterical, and I'm sure he's smart. The biggest thing was never knowing what was going to be on the test. P.s. prepare to be called crazy EVERYDAY class.
His lectures last 30 minutes, but he will test you on everything covered in the book -EVERYTHING. His lecture slides are worthless, looks like he put them together in 5 minutes, and his lectures barely scrape the surface of the material. I am a straight A student and this class landed me my first B.
This is by far the laziest professor I have ever seen. He waited to the last minute to open up the online class. The book he listed was the wrong book. The online lectures where 5 years old and did not match the current book or test given. There where no study guides for the exams. If you care about your GPA don't take him.
I took Cog psych with him and it was seriously an easy A for me. Do the labs and the quizzes even tho they are kinda tedious i would get them knocked out in about 3 hours every couple weeks. The test are easy if you know where to find the answers. No papers, I didn't even buy the book.
He's a fine guy. Do the work, and do the cog labs, and you'll do fine.
I would recommend taking it online. The quizzes are word for word from his lectures and the tests aren't too bad since they aren't proctored. The lectures and the cog labs are actually pretty interesting, so I didn't mind doing them. Just do all of the quizzes, labs, and the tests and you'll do fine! He also drops an exam :)
This professor is awesome. I did have him online and his lectures did seem a little dated but you could still feel like he truly cared about what he was teaching. I think he's kinda dorky too, he had a solid 20 second slide of just intro music for every lecture. Easy though because every lecture has a 4-5 q quiz that is all T/F he also emails quick
I liked his labs but they are worth nothing 2.5 pts. and then you have to write a discussion about the labs another 5 pts. So his tests are extremely hard. I took notes and listened to his lectures which did not help. The class average was a 62% almost an F. His tests are worth 100 pts. If you care about your grade do not take him.
Everything but his exams are tolerable. He states in his syllabus that you don't need the textbook, and only need his lectures, however the content that he tests on is not always from the lecture. He does not try to address these issues of class averages on exams being below 70%.
Listen. Don't take his online course. Just don't. He tells you not to get the textbook, that his lectures (which are like 5 min each) will be enough to pass the exam. His review questions are so easy & the test is so hard & literally has nothing to do with what was said in his lectures. Idk how you're supposed to get an A.
I'm a straight A senior and this class ruined my perfect GPA right at the end of college. His exams have nothing to do with his lectures and they're proctored. This isn't even my first cognitive class, so I know that I understand the material. He also groups assignments to all be due on the same day so if you miss one deadline, you miss three. Run.
I will just continue the past comments regarding how terribly hard this class was. 4 exams, lowest dropped, labs and discussions, final paper, and an optional final exam. I have always loved online classes but this has been by far the hardest online class I have ever taken. I highly regret taking this class as it seems impossible to get an A.
Beware! Only 3 days to take the proctored online exams. Modules are split in 2, you have 3 discussions and 3 online labs for each. The discussions are only open for 3 days. No book, you "only need the lectures" then puts material on the tests you've never seen before. Vague questions with confusing answers. Same setup as previous comment.
Test questions are extremely vague and have nothing to do with the actual exams. I thought I was the only one who thought so until I came across his rate my teacher. When I tried to contact him about the issue his response seemed very condescending. Thinking about emailing him his ratemyteacher profile once the semester ends.
Test questions don't match the exams. Its hard to "think deeply" about the material when it was never covered in the first place. We can't be expected to create new connections about material on exams when exams contain terms and thing that we never saw in lecture.
The tests are what makes this course excruciating. Tests have nothing to do with the lectures, which means they must come from the textbook. He states that the textbook is not required but I am sure it would improve your outcome. The tests are nothing like the practice questions during the video lectures. Wish I didn't take this class online.
Absolutely the worst Proffesor Ive ever had. The exams in the class make it almost impossible to get a good grade. The exams have absolutely nothing to do with the lectures. DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFFESOR. As a psychology major I can firmly say that this course will ruin your GPA. Never got anything below a B until this course. Awful just awful class
This is by far the worst class i have ever taken. I have taken many online classes but he is the absolute worst professor. None of the material on the exams are in the lecture and there is no study guide. I emailed him for advice to get a better grade on the exams and all he said was study. I emailed him again and he did not reply at all.
The labs are very easy and he grades them easy as well. The tests are impossible. I would practically memorize every lecture and that information is useless for the test. He says the textbook is not mandatory. If I were to take this class again I would buy the textbook to see if it made a difference.
Kenneth is a knowledgeable professor, and gives many lectures to listen to. His lectures are very monotone and you cannot pass the class just with the lectures. He does not require a book, nor list a book so you have to rely on outside sources. Do all discussions and activities.
Overall is not that hard. There are 3 labs and lab discussions due every week but theyre not hard. I got As in most of them. You can get away with not watching the videos and still get As in labs. Exams are really hard. There are 4 before the final, he drops 1. Theyre proctored but a 74.22 is a B and above an 83 is A. Your GPA will flop, dont take.
This professor is probably the worst you could have at USF. Download the textbook!!! He does not put it in the syllabus because he would rather you learn from his 6-minute lectures that provide no help. It is called cog psych by E. Bruce Goldstein. It will save you in this class.
I highly recommend that NO ONE take this professor. He provides very short lectures that does not cover a huge portion of the exams.I am highly upset with this professor because his teaching style is not based on helping a student pass. There are four exams and if you do not pass the exams YOU WILL FAIL the class. DO NOT take this professor.
pulls tests from optional material, used slurs against people with disabilities in class, takes forever to respond to emails, would not offer or suggest which material to focus on for test during office hours, rude
Just dont do it. You WILL regret it!!!!
Horrible professor, if you need a good grade do NOT take him
Dont do it. just dont. absolutely horrible class, super hard, doesn't provide any study material and not helpful. This was my first C and only class ive ever had so much trouble with. not worth the stress, trust me on this one. avoid taking this class!
WORST PROFESSOR EVER!! His class doesn't have a textbook so u rely on his lectures. they're 3-10 mins long w NO info provided. Tests are EXTREMELY difficult & don't relate to the lectures. questions were confusing & difficult. They made no sense. Even called him out for testing us on material he didn't teach & he didn't care & was rude.
This professor is horrible. He does not take any of his classmates considerations and just assumes that were not studying enough. Do not take this class with him as your professor. He uses outdated lectures, and they are very vague. He does not require nor even recommend a book when there is material on the test that is not covered.
My classmates and I are getting Ds and Fs every test with the content that Malmberg provided. Tells us to study harder but we spend hours doing so. We are not the problem. Rude when you email him. Labs & discussions are easy, but this class with this professor isnt worth the headaches. Try taking someone else, trust me. Your GPA will thank you.
First two exams I had in this class I got a 50. Finally spent an entire week studying up for the third exam only to get an 75 on it. Everyone in the class is doing so bad he had to change the grading criteria for a C from the ranges of 70-79 to 65-77. I have a B in the class because everyone else is doing so bad. DON'T TAKE HIM.
Where do I start? DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS IF YOU WANT A GOOD GRADE. The exams are INSANE. We're provided lectures that cover the basics of the info and tested on every aspect of the topics in them. Class work was fine but the exams tanked the grades of myself & 40 other students. No textbook despite exam questions saying "in the text". Would not rec.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. I've never really believed the reviews until I had him. You will not be able to pull higher than a C. His exams don't test on the material he teaches. He doesn't give a book, then tests on the book. He doesn't let you form study groups. You will not do well. It isn't possible. Across 4 exams, the average is 65
The lectures he provides are extremely light in content, which is bad if you're in an online class. Any additional materials is in a textbook he doesn't require but won't tell you about, and you will fail the exams if you don't have it. He actively told me not to work with other students-- in the middle of a pandemic! Do not take this class.
Never take his classes. He relies on you to teach yoursell. He bumbles through lectures then tests you on info from text book he tells you not to buy. He had to change his gradeing scale because over half the class was failing. He also refuses to actualy help students if thay need it.
This professor gets an undue amount of complaints on this platform and I'd like to say that he's not hard at all. You literally just have to read and watch his lectures. I took him for research methods in psych and got an A as well. You just have to do the work. Some people expect an A to fall in the lap like some miracle.
Malmberg's class only had weekly lectures, 6 exams, and 2 papers. There was no homework or anything else to help you actually learn the material or apply it. His lectures didn't seem to cover most of what was on the exams. He does drop the lowest test grade, which is the only good thing about the class in my opinion.
I have never taken a worse professor. His only grades are 4 exams with an optional final that replaces your lowest grade. He says you do not need the textbook but asks you questions on the exam from one specific sentence from the textbook. He loves to ramble. Does not clearly answer questions. Does not reply to emails in a timely manner.
The class is strictly Lecture & Exam based, your only grades are exams throughout the semester that are online and proctored; however, people cheat and ruin the curve so you have to study in order to combat that. If you dont go to class and do the lectures good luck passing
Your grade is based only on exams and it's almost impossible to do well on them. The questions are confusing and he picks random facts from the textbook to ask the questions on. The only reason I got an A is because he curves the exams and drops the lowest at the end of the class.
If you value your education and want your professor to value it too, avoid this one. The lectures are dreadful to get through. Class is based off 5 exams so there are no assignments to help teach you. The exams will have random questions that do not relate to the material just so he can tell you are watching lectures. Just. don't do it.
I don't know why this professor has such a low rating but he is great! He's one of the best psychology professors I've had at USF. His lectures are easy to follow, and they're not too long. The only grade in his class is exams, but if you study for exams you will be fine because of his grading scale. Use the textbook! It helped a lot when studying.
I wouldn't take this class again if my life depended on it. This was the only Research Methods course available online, so I took it. Dr.Malmberg teaches solely using lectures. In total, there are 5 exams and 2 writing assignments. Dr.Malmberg puts conflicting information on Canvas assignments and is completely unwilling to work with students.
I took him for cognitive psych this semester. The ratings on here are a bit harsh I would say. He's not a terrible professor, but his teaching style didn't really work for me. If you're a good test taker, he'll be fine for you. The only grades for class are tests and extra credit was only given if you gave him a test question and he used it.
Grade was based off of 5 exams and 2 writing assignments. Lectures are an hour long and reviews can be longer. This course was like sand paper directly to my brain. Since it ended, I have not had a single coherent thought. I cried in the Walmart parking lot over this class. Taught myself how to do the worm to cope with it though so it's ok
terrible professor. doesn't care if you understand the material and doesn't want you to do well. I flunked this class and if I had to take it again with him id rather drop and spend the rest of my life as a dropout.
This professor did a great job during lectures and was super interesting. There were many discussions on the material which made it very easy to get engaged in the material. However, the entire class grade is made up of 4 tests and an optional cumulative final which can replace your lowest test score. Attendance also gives a free 100 points.
In-person class was comprised of four exams (20 multiple choice questions per), each being 20%. There is a cumulative final offered that would replace lowest exam. Attendance is 20% of final grade and VERY strict (no more than 2 absences). Material is easy to follow and he's passionate about his work, but reading textbook is important.
He would tell random stories/jokes during lecture and I was just like uhhh ok. Tends to ramble a lot. 2 writing assignments - 1 was making graphs which we finished together in lab, 1 was an review on a study. 5 exams, 1 optional final. Lowest exam dropped. He makes the scale himself based on the highest grade in class (A: 84-93 B:75-84)
He had one of the most engaging classes I have ever taken at USF He is really willing to aid with course information, you can tell he really enjoys the subject. The information covered was great and never got boring, seeing as he explained everything in a great manner which aided in retaining information.
The course only consists of 4 exams and an optional final. If you take the final the lowest grade drops. He doesn't make study guides and you have to study the book, any extra materials he provides and his lectures. It is not an easy class so pass if your looking for an easy A.
This professor only lets you miss 2 classes no matter what. If you miss more than 2 you lose all of the 100 attendance points that go toward your grade. I thought this class would be interesting but it was very boring material and lectures. 4 tests with 20 questions and so much material to study. This was my most stressful class.
made MANY racist comments about middle eastern/north african countries and people. attendance is mandatory and has a sign in sheet every class. impossible to reach outside of class. HE LOST STUDENTS EXAM PAPERS. he is COMPLTELY inflexible, if you miss an exam for ANY reason, even if you tell him in advance, he still fails you.
Attendance, 4 exams and an optional final were our only grades. He says his tests are easy if you really understand the material, however I disagree. Many of the questions seemed to have more than one right answer, and there were a few times where I put the answer that I studied and still got the question wrong. 20 question tests so its stressful.
Caring and passionate professor. He does drone one a lot and although he tries to be funny sometimes the jokes can be a bit much. Extremely lecture and book heavy. Only 4 exams plus optional final and attendance. Curves grades but still annoying. Content can be interesting but textbooks can be a little difficult to digest.
I overall liked the class, just not exactly the tests. Each test is only 20 questions so the room for error is small. He will go over them with you tho and drops the lowest score. The lectures were fine and he likes to tell stories which I usually found pretty funny. He also gave some great examples of concepts that made them very easy to remember.
I did not have a easy time with this guy. His attendance is the worst thing I have see, you are only allowed to miss 2 lectures, and 1 lab with him. If you miss it, your done, like whole ass F for the semester no excuses. A lot of the students were yelled at when they gave like proper excuses for their absences.
Had a really hard time in this class and understanding the material. Well I wouldnt say this is the worst professor I had, he definitely wasn't the best, really strict attendance policy with lectures and labs even though the labs were really only used as like a study hall. Also found his exams difficult even though they were only 20 questions.
5 exams, 2 (writing) assignments, optional final. honestly not a really hard class. if you're good with understanding concepts + have a science background the exams are cake. his attendance policy is ridiculous though especially for an 8am. curve ended up being 81-91 = A. i actually sat in my car and studied for 30 mins before each test and got a A
I loved Ken + this class; he doesn't deserve all the bad ratings on here. As long as you put in the work and go to class you'll be fine, especially if you're passionate about cognitive psych. He's a little wacky and goes on tangents but is always willing to talk to you and answer questions. Grade is based on 4 out of 5 exams (one gets dropped).
Tough class with strict attendance policy and challenging exams. Lectures can be dry, but using Unstuck AI and the textbook helped me grasp the concepts. Overall, a solid class if you're willing to put in the work.
While you can pretty much get a good grade as long as you show up and pay attention, his attitude and attendance policy are a nightmare. I was always on time to class & lecture, but one time I had a personal issue, & showed up two minutes late, and he pretty much told me that I needed to forget my personal life and only worry about his class.
Openly rude and self-inflated. Ridiculous workload because he genuinely believed his class was the most important thing in the world. Once got upset because class was cancelled due to a literal tornado siren. He told the TAs that it wasn't necessary to cancel classes in a glass building. This also wasn't a class he had to attend. TAs are great
This class was pretty difficult and the textbook is a little hard to read. However, the material is interesting and Ken actually makes the lectures bearable. This professor answers any question during class super thoughtfully. There aren't many assignments to worry about, but grades based on only four exams (+optional final) was a little stressful.
5 exams 1 exam dropped & exams are 20 questions cover lots of info. Hard to study bc have to study everything & gives no study guide or idea to what you should study. doesn't always cover all the lecture material so could be on textbook, lecture whether it was covered or not in class. attendance is worth 100pts but CANNOT miss more than 2 classes.
Malmberg is a cool professor, but he goes off on tangents a lot. You have to sift through the lecture sometimes to grasp what he is saying. Much of your grade is contingent upon the work you put in. Attendance is mandatory, you can only miss two classes and one lab; but if you study and show up to class, you'll manage a least a B.
A lot of people didnt like him but for some reason i do, i think he is funny and really interesting and compassionate about the topics. Class could be boring at times but still good. However the tests were really difficult and short but other than that it was a good class
Exams were only 20 questions, and a lot of information was squeezed into them. Didn't just read off PPs, but often goes on tangents. Mandatory attendance. He puts the grading up to the TAs, and some TAs submit grades quickly, and some don't, so many students are waiting for grades. Overall, unfortunately, the class is annoying but necessary.
Make sure to listen what he says in class and powerpoints and take notes on it. Goes off on tangents but make notes on what he says about experiments and their concepts.Only grades on tests. This is my second class with him and he tests on concepts and experiments/ researchers. Book is not really needed. Love this guy tho hes a great professor
Your grade is made up of 4 exams and attendance points. If you miss more than 2 lectures you get 0/100 for attendance and are basically capped at a C. He doesn't allow for excused absences. He can be captivating as a lecturer but it gets squandered by ego. Not to mention his lectures are often long tangents that don't prepare you for the tests.
