I thought this class was very interesting, and he did a great job teaching it. We only got graded on two papers and two exams, so you had to do well on those to pass the class, but he pretty much gave us everything on the test a week in advance. Will help you if you need help. take him

I think he is a sweetheart. He just wants you to learn. His papers are not that hard. Just dont get full of yourseld if you do good on the first paper because he starts grading harder as the course goes on. But overall it is still pretty easy. Real nice guy!

One of the best teachers and not to bad looking..willing ot help you at anytime..if you are a history major tell him upfront becuase he gives great advice and concentrates on your paper more. Easy class but al ot of tender subjects will be cover prepare to cry a little

A good prof! He is more interested in our learning than he is in his teaching. The papers and exams are a little challenging, but they're the only work you do out of class (2 papers, 2 exams) so you can't complain. If you want to expand your thinking, take the class! It's well worth your time!

He made history fun to learn about, wasn't boring. Attendance does count once in awhile and the exams can be challenging. I would highly recommend him. He always made sure that people were understanding the material being covered and would go out of his way to help someone. So far he is my favorite.

Whew! TONS of work in this class. 4 books to read, plus a big paper on each. Then, a paper on the news every week. I have never worked so hard for a class. However, he's very helpful and easy going. I still recommend him.

Great professor! very funny and helpful. Only 2 book reports and 2 exams. Put a little effort in the papers and you'll be fine exams have a 50% essay question 4 identification questions and 10 one point multiple choice questions. Take this class he makes it fun! Younger and cool professor also.

Any History Major should take this teacher, you learn so much! He is not real easy, but if you work real hard you can get an A. All essay exams pretty much so if you are not a good essay tester, I wouldn't take him. But, as said you will learn tons.

Excellent prof- extrememly willing to help you- he wants his students to do well. I would highly recommend him. 2 paperbacks- paper on each, no textbooks- 2 exams. You must try but he will do whatever he can for you.

Not a typcial history class. No text book, however, have to read two books and write an analysis about each. There are also a few quizzes over very little actual historical information presented. Most of your grade is based on in-class assignments. Would take again-easy to get at least B, possible A

Awesome class. two exams two book reports and he helps you with anything you bring him. He's a social historian so its from a different perspective than most. He makes it fun! And he's not to bad to look at for three hours a week!

Though I wasnt a history major, Jolly made this class painless and very entertaining. He also goes above and beyond the role of a teacher. He is an excellent professor and a nice guy. I wish many more professors were half as concerned for their students as Jolly. Take this class.

This Class is very interesting but there is alot of in class work and you hvae to go to class or you will miss out on major points. He is pretty flexible if you have to miss he will help you out butnotif you skip like everyday. Its also a bonus that he's not too bad to look at for an hour and a half

Really tough class. Grades really hard. I received a D in his class but...he was my favorite teacher by a landslide. I loved his course. He makes everything interesting and is the best lecturer I have ever seen. I, honestly, would take him again after I get my degree just to sit in on any one of his courses just to here what he has to say. Great.

The toughest class you'll ever love. No easy As handed out here and even with effort you might be lucky to get a B. Nice guy who really knows his stuff and makes lectures interesting. You'll be a stronger student later if you follow his guidelines. You thought you knew history? You might discover otherwise. This is real university level education!

This guy is white, but is insanely obsessed with black Issues. Begins a US history class that's supposed to start in 1877 in 1865 and spends half a semester talking about reconstruction and slaves and then races through the rest before the semester is over. Also was extremely rude to me over insignificant issues like turning in homework early.

Prof. Jolly paints a vivid picture of history through his lectures. He encourages student participation and in-class group work/discussions. Take good notes, study and you'll do fine. However, if you have yet to develop college level writing skills, you will be disappointed with your grade. Exam: multiple choice, fill-in-the-blank and essay.

He's a very understanding man. He understands that everyone has problems in their life so therfore he tries to make it easy on everyone. In class he is SUPER BORING HE WILL PUT YOU TO SLEEP but he tries to bring excitment into the classroom. His lectures are super long and I couldnt understand them but he will clarify them just get to know him.

This prof is awsome, if History isn't your thing and you need a HST class for a requirement take this one. He keeps it fairly interesting throughout. The textbooks were easy reads. The papers were a bit excessive but if your behind or having trouble he will help you get beack on track . Over all one of my favorite profs

Hes an alright guy and a pretty good lecturer, but hes a pretty hard paper grader. You will do well if you just repeat what he says in class in the papers, dont try to analyze the book yourself. Also: The extra credit is worthless....you will have to do at least ten EC assignments to raise your grade 1%....dont waste your time.

He is a natural teacher. He is very interesting and honestly cares about your thoughts. I learned so much in his class. Very respectful guy too, he always says hello in the halls and is always ready to help his students. Very enthusiastic about his subject. I can't say his class was easy because you do have to work, but hell it is college.

Professor jolly was awesome, he was always clear on what he wanted and was willing to help at anytime. although, his classes seemed long because he talked a lot he kept things moving and interesting. great teacher if i ever have to take history again i would definitively look to take him again. his exams are somewhat hard but a great teacher.

Professor Jolly is amazing. He thanks the class after every session... he has a sort of way of making you feel good. He is extremly easy grader on the essay exams but you must attend class and study a lot to know the material for the exams. He is very helpful and wants you to come to his office hours! His tests are very hard but the papers are easy, and if you show up and care he's very fair. My only real complaint is that he's big on participation, but he doesn't reallygive anyone a chance to talk, and when he does he only accepts exactlyw hat he was thinking... nothing new.

Arguably the greatest professor ever

He's so pumped up for each class and passionate about history. His class is definitely not a boring one. It's very easy to be interested in history with his enthusiasm. Just have to make sure your in class for notes, you read what he assigns you to read, put a good effort into the two papers you have to write, and study material for the two exams.

Ive always read these things about profs but i have never rated one. I simply just dont take the time and i am tking the with Jolly because he is so freaking amazying!Take his class you'll love it!

If you have any opinions that don't completely line up with Jolly's, then just don't talk in this class. Bite your tongue until you leave because getting him rilled up about something (more than he already is) is pointless. I feel like I've learned a lot, but I also think that what I've learned is tilted and bias.

Took him more than once, and taking him again this upcoming semester. Made the material easy to understand and related to what's occurring now. Very energized and excited to teach. You get your bang for your buck...never expect to leave class early but always start on time.

All throughout high school, I struggled in History. I nearly failed half of the time so I was TERRIFIED to take a university level history. When I tell you that this man is AMAZING, I mean amazing. I aced his class first and foremost, but theres was never a day where I wanted to skip. Every lecture was amazing. His energy is unreal. LOVED his class

He believes in cheap books because we all work for our money. Expect to spend about $40 total on three to five books per class. Expect moments of dead silence during lecture when you can hear a pin drop, but don't expect to sleep. No one has ever fallen asleep in his class.

My one hesitation in recommending this class is that it is mostly writing based. The four grades you get in are two essays and two essay exams. Showing up to class and taking notes is a must!

He is pretty easy. 2 papers and 2 exams, but exam review already on canvas and it basically 90% whats will be in the exams. papers are ok. He does yell in class but not in bad way, like excitement and energetic. Take notes is important because not on canvas. Attendence is not mandatory but sometimes he take attendence randomly and notes help alot.

Dr. Jolly was hands down, the absolute best professor I have ever had. If I could take every college class that I have left with him, I would in a heartbeat. I always knew 100% what was expected of me on tests and paper assignments. Furthermore, he genuinely cares about his students. He replies quickly to emails and is always there for support.

I love Dr. Jolly. He always asks students how they are and he actually cares about their answer. He is super flexible with deadlines if you let him know you need extra time. You read 2 books and write 2 papers on them, with a Midterm and an Exam but he tells you majority of what is on them beforehand. His enthusiasm is contagious.

Took this is 2015, I still think about Professor Jolly. His lectures were amazing and he welcomed a debate. He knows he stuff and although politically he's slightly pushy, he's happy if you disagree him (just state your case). This man is well rounded and ALL material was interesting.

Best professor I've ever had! There is quite a bit of info during the lectures but he goes over the study guides and will tell you exactly what is on the exams. There are only 2 papers that you will need the books for but he lays out exactly what he wants and you can email your rough drafts to him and he will tell you if you're on track or not.

Dr. Jolly is amazing. He is so nice, engaging, and funny. His lectures are a little boring at times and he can get off topic a bit but that is my only complaint. He is so caring and wants you to get an A. I would love to take another class with him.

Professor Jolly is one of the most enthusiastic professors here. He truly cares about each and every one of his students. This class was very easy with very few assignments. Professor Jolly is able to help with problems that you may be having in other classes too!

Jolly is a great instructor. He's energetic and friendly, I really enjoyed his class. He lectures can turn into tangents but he is more than willingly to slow down and repeat or clarify something. There are only 4 assignments, two papers and two exams. They were really easy and Jolly was more than willing to help prepare you for the assignments

Dr. Jolly was always wiling to help. The lectures would sometimes go off into tangents but it kept me entertained and interested in the class. There are only 4 assignments the entire semester (2 papers and 2 exams). He had flexible deadlines which helped and gave amazing feedback on your papers. He went over the entire exam before we took it.

A wonderful prof. Big on self care and mental health. He always lets you know he's proud of you and really lets you know he cares. Quick to respond to emails. Very flexible. He can get a little loud but it's just because he's so passionate. 2 exams and 2 papers. He'll over the exam and check your papers prior to turning them in.

Dr. Jolly is amazing. He's the most understanding and caring professor I've ever had. He doesn't believe in due dates, allows for rewrites, and really works the class around what the students are most interested in. I would take every class he teaches if I could.

by far the best prof at svsu, i’ve taken 4 classes with him so far and i will say, his material is kinda repetitive so im bored now but the first 1 or 2 classes with him were awesome. he has rolling due dates, easiest exams, and is super chill about grading papers as long as we learn things. easy A and lots of laughs in class

Jolly is super nice and relaxed. He grants extensions on literally anything you do in the class. He is very understanding of any personal problems, and grades very easy. TAKE JOLLY.

The MOST understanding and caring professor I have ever had. Class is really fun and he has great stories and examples to help you understand the material. Only have 2 papers and 2 exams and he is super helpful for both and will review your work. He sets you up for success, I recommend taking his class!

Literally the best professor ever. He would help you with literally anything you needed, no matter what it was about. I made a comment in class saying that I felt like I was drowning and he had me stay back and we talked about ways to help me get through the professor. He really cares about his students.

I LOVED jolly! He is so understanding! Can't go to class? That's okay he understands! Need extra time on a paper? He's great on extensions! There are only two papers that are basically book reports and two exams! He posts the exam reviews early and will let you fix wrong answers while taking the exam! Take him!

This guy is the best professor ever. You won't learn anything other than woke BS, but you'll bang out a Gen Ed pretty easily, save your GPA, and have nap time during his class. You don't even need to go to his class and there are no deadlines. I was able to revise assignments a week after classes ended.

He is a very nice teacher who cares about your mental and ohysical health. He also gives great feedback on the two papers you have to do. Its an easy A class. The more you particapte in class, the better grade you get.

I did feel very uneducated coming into his class at first, I finished the class feeling more knowledgeable. The tough videos and books we read that were a tough read emotionally so those made me wanna cry but im a thug so I couldn't. He's very kind and understanding as well. He had me pumped for the day every time since he was a morning class.

I loved professor Jolly. He is a great teacher that really cares about his students and he has very flexible deadlines and is a very easy grader the only complaint is that he feels very guilty about his own race but overall a very positive person and very fun lectures!

Dr. Jolly is an extremely caring and understanding professor. He is willing to adapt to his students situation and do whatever he can to help them succeed. Attendance is not mandatory, but his lectures are very engaging. Workload is manageable and he gives study guides for the 2 exams in his class.

Dr. Jolly is a very caring and accommodating professor who is very clearly passionate about what he teaches. I would HIGHLY recommend taking this course with him. The only grades are some extra credit papers, two longer papers on the two books you are expected to read, and the midterm and final. He prepares you well for all of it!

Kenneth Jolly is one of the best history professors on campus. Very passionate about what he teaches, he wants you to succeed in everything you do. He will review your papers and exams before you even turn it in. He even goes around to every student just to see how they're doing. Highly recommend if you can get him for a professor!

Professor Jolly is an incredibly understanding and accommodating instructor. With a manageable workload, engaging lectures, and flexible policies, his class is an easy A. Unstuck AI and other study aids helped me prep for exams with ease.

Dr. Jolly is a great, energetic professor. I have never had more fun in class. He truly cares about his students. If you have the opportunity, definitely take a class with him! Not only will it be an easy A, but also he will teach you how to use his lessons in everyday life to make the world a much better place.

Prof Jolly is the best, funniest, most down-to-earth professor I've ever had. He makes his class not a priority to being a person outside of school, but you'll want to go to his class, half of the time is spent just talking and laughing about life. I somehow learned so much too. It's hard not to get an A.

Great professor, great human being. He is so kind and encourages students to make themselves a priority over the class. Very caring toward his students and is super funny, going off on tangents about random things, and then somehow connecting it to history. Very passionate about history! Gives very few assignments that he grades very easily

You already know it, Jolly is one of, if not the best, professors here at SVSU. I've taken his classes now, and I've never learned better than when I'm in a Jolly class. He's passionate about what he teaches, he wants students to succeed, and he's built for this job. If you're considering taking a class with him, do it.

Dr. Jolly is such an amazing professor. He cares so much about his students and the work load is not bad at all. Deadlines are extendable and he is happy to do so. I am diffidently going to be taking another class with him in the future!

Aside from assigning some pretty thick books and expecting paper reports on them, Jolly's classes are always phenomenal. He is kind, caring, understanding, and funny. My only complaint is that he spends a little too long on material during lecture, which can get boring/repetitive. Regardless, Jolly is an awesome professor and I'd take him again.

Jolly is, as usual, an amazing educator. He remains caring, understanding, engaging, and kind throughout all of his classes. This class follows a similar structure to his others - two exams and three papers, the papers based off of the assigned reading. Aside from Jolly's tendency to get repetitive during lecture, I'd take this class again any day.

Professor Jolly has to be one of the best teachers, in my opinion. Class isn't mandatory, but I would go just to listen to his stories! He teaches this history class very well and is very open to changing due dates and working with your schedule. He is the most easy-going teacher and really cares for his students.

He is absolutely amazing; he really cares about students and pushes all of us to enjoy college and not let the stress of classes take over. Amazing to talk to, responsive, kind, helpful, and overall, not just an amazing teacher, but an amazing person. If you have his class, you should feel extremely lucky!

THE SWEETEST MAN EVER! His class is so easy, and he makes it so fun; deadlines aren't set in stone, and he is very flexible. He is truly such a joy and cares about all his students. If you can take one of his classes, do it.

We had 2 papers and two exams during this course. Both papers were based off of books that I did not read, and I still got 100% on both of them.
