Great teacher, loves the subject. Good sense of humor. Expects you to put work, but very fair. I would take his class again. A+
Keaton=great music appr teacher. References book (don't buy it) but knows what he's talking about. He loves music, quite passionate about it. Can see him tapping his foot to all songs. If you don't like listening to classical music DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS, some people actually like it and you ruin when you walk out during class! Attendance=mandatory!
Good sense of humor. Helpful. Make sure you give tons of info in your reviews. Only take this class if you're into classical-type music. Walking out is looked down upon, but you can. Its interrupting to the people like us who stay in class though. His tests are based totally on lecture. Tests are open-note/internet.
Class is VERY boring. He constantly writes on the board, then stands in the way so you cant write it down, then erases before anyone can copy. All tests are online so thats easy :) He takes attendence but all you have to do is initial it so it's easy to get ppl to sign you in. 2 reports due each quarter not bad at all. Take notes, book not necessary
He was very passionate about his work. Its a boring class but if you pay attention and study for the tests you will do fine.
Such a great professor, tries to make the class interesting by using humor when he can. He takes attendance but you can leave after he does. Very nice teacher and always willing to help. I took him in the summer and he was one of the best teachers ever! I got an A
He is a very easy professor as long as you show up to class and take notes you'll do fine. His tests are online on blackboard, his tests comes from his notes in class. Attendance is not required but you do have to initial on sign in sheet. Book is really not necessary, and class is quite boring. But if you attend class, take notes you will get a A.
Good humored person. Knows alot about music. Hates when people talk during his lectures.
Dr. Keaton is a really nice guy that is really passionate about what he teaches. This class is really easy as the tests are all online and open note. All you have to do is attend class and take good notes. The test comes straight from the lectures so if you attend class you should have no problem getting a solid "A".
BRING TYLENOL. loud music every class. I found the class boring, but he's a pretty good teacher. He's nice and tries to be funny. The tests are LONG (at least 90 questions) but they are online and open note/book (though the book is not needed). Taking notes from his powerpoints is mandatory to do well.
Music is WAY too loud..bring ear plugs!Grading scale is harder than other classes. The tests are online and really long..A lot of the questions come from notes but you mainly have to look up answers online. He claims the tests are timed but there is no timer so IGNORE IT! Hes nice but takes attendance too seriously.
Professor Keaton loves what he teaches but classes are boring and mandatory. Easy A if you take his notes from the powerpoint but I'd suggest bringing a laptop so you have something to do rather than sleep.
He is really annoying, especially when he tries to play his guitar. Music is way too loud, avoid speakers at all costs. Take notes, test questions taken right from the notes. Don't buy book. Easy class as long as you take notes.
He is really annoying, especially when he tries to play his guitar. Music is way too loud, avoid speakers at all costs. Take notes, test questions taken right from the notes. Don't buy book. Easy class as long as you take notes!!!
Basically an easy A. You don't even have to go to class, have someone sign you in. The book is madatory because his lectures come from the book. I only showed up 7 times, and got an A on every test
This class is super boring. If it wasn't for the attendance I would never go and I stopped going towards the end and made a B because of it. It's easy though and tests are online. Book is exactly the same as his lecture.
Dr.Keaton is indeed passionate about music and that is noted in how he teaches it. I loved the class but if you don't like classical music you may find it boring and end up sleeping. I would say to buy the book because you need it for help on the online test. Overall a GREAT professor (just wished he played his guitar more lol)
This guy knows what he's talking about. It seems as if his biggest interest in life is music. Great professor, but it's not that interactive of a course so it may become dull sitting and listening (if you're that type). Tests aren't too challenging and you do learn a lot if you pay attention. Buy the book only if you want help on tests (open book)
His class is really easy. Just write notes in class or highlight his lectures in the book.
Easy but extremely boring class. No problems unless you have a grade dispute. Keaton is unable to deal with grading issues and makes up his own grading scale as to not make his class seem like a joke.
I was surprised I earned an A in his class, considering his grading scale is higher than others. His tests are all online, open note/book. He goes by the notes really quick and it's the same as in the book (he wrote the book). Takes attendance with iClicker 10 minutes into class, and like 2 minutes before class ends. But an easy A. And Extra credit
He loves what he does and has a lot of information. Great teacher! Take notes the tests are from his notes. Dr. Keaton is understanding and has an easy class. Who doesn't love music?
Great professor. Very kind, makes time for all your questions. 4 tests, all are online and get longer as the class progresses. All notes come from the textbook (which he wrote). You can Google most of the answers; I did. Attendance is mandatory. I passed with an A and slept through most of the classes because they did get pretty boring.
Great professor! He knew what he was talking about, and you can tell that he really loved what he was teaching. Showed us some great operas and I found through his class a new love for Russian classical music. Take him if you have a chance, you won't regret it!
Keaton is no help at all!!! Berades students when they ask a question and talks down to them if they dont understand what he says infront of the class. His gutair playing sucks...there is a reason classical gutair is not listened to, bc its not ment to be played on gutair and you cant hear it!!!!
boring class. can earn a B just by using his book while sleepin thru every class. enough said
Good teacher. Knows what he's talking about & has an interesting sense of humor. Tries his best to make things interesting. The class was easy. All you need is the book - all exams are online & open book. The only major thing was a 10-pg paper, which he grades w/ mercy. :D For reg. Music Appreciation, it's the same thing... just no 10-pg paper. (:
Extremely easy, don't need to pay attention in class since you can use your books on all the tests. Has a great sense of humor.
This class is so boring but an easy A. You don't even have to go to class all tests are online but extra credit given in class and a lot more extra cred opportunities outside class. If you're really into music don't take this class he's very boring and into opera but if u want the grade go for it.
Loves music, that's obvious, At first i enjoyed the class but it got more boring as the semester went on. Easy A, all test online, doesn't give homework, gives extra credit, the only reason i didn't get an A is because i missed 2 weeks and he lost my make up exam...tkae for an easy grade
At first the class seemed interesting, then the semester continued and OH MY GOD, I SWEAR I FELL ASLEEP EVERY CLASS PERIOD. Other than that, the class is very easy, all tests are online, there is no need to pay attention to him, just make sure to have the book near you when you take the test. EASY A!!!
Class is boring, but he's a good teacher. This is and EASY A. Tests are open book, and attendance is mandatory, but it's iclickr. Recommend taking him ! :) I received an A
easy class, but very boring. teacher is easy, no homework, online open book tests. but he does use iclicker and he WILL fail you if you dont do the iclicker. i got all a's on the tests (his only grades) and wound up getting a low grade because of attendance.
Super easy class. Easy A, you will need the text book for his online open book tests. His class is boring buy bearable
Keaton did not teach my class, his TA did, Tennison. Either way he is easy. As long as you buy the book you are good. The only thing your graded on is the tests and they are open book online. EASY A! You just have to sit through the boring lecture, that's if your not interested in the subject of course.
Easiest class I have ever taken. I took it during the summer- 4 online exams and mandatory attendance. Just copy the notes, buy the book and you're all set. I never listened to anything he said and I got an A+
professor keatons class is the most boring class ive ever taken in my life. I took it over the summer and it was so long and dragged out and boring. however, it was an easy a. i reccomend taking over the summer. its painless, just takes a lot of patience.
Easy A! You have to go to class for iclicker attendance though.
Nice guy who is passionate about what he teaches. Very easy class.
He is very passionate about what he teaches. the class is very boring. all you do is view power point slides and listen to mainly classical music. attendance is required with iclickers. you don't have to pay attention, there are 4 test that comes straight from skimming the book. easy A
Easy A. You dont need to pay attention in class because his tests are based off the textbook. He is very passionate about teaching and music
iClicker quizzes to earn attendance credit. Very easy class, but can get boring. All tests are online. I would recommend taking this.
iClicker for attendance beginning and end of class. All tests are online and he gives you an opportunity to retake at the end. Only buy that online rapsody thing if you plan on doing extra credit. You need the book to pass the exams. Takes about 2.5 hrs he gives you 4 hrs to complete
Don't buy the new textbook, having the access code won't necessarily help you get an A. The textbook and Google had all the answers to the online tests.
A very caring professor. Answers for the quiz are in the lecture notes. Go to class because he will exempt you from the final if you don't have a lot of absences (marks attendance through iClicker). The quizzes are online and very easy. Overall the class is an easy A and he is very passionate about music. I enjoyed the class.
Go to class for attendance bc he exempts you from the final if you have under 4 absences. the class was painful though, hated going. seriously one of the most boring professors I've ever had! the exams are easy if you have the txb but really long (100qs). Take him for an easy A!
Class is super easy take this class for an easy "A". DO NOT BUY A NEW TEXTBOOK!! all you need is a used textbook you don't need an access code! However you will need the book to pass the class. He grades your attendance so you have t come to class unless you find a friend that will click you in for attendance. The class is very boring but VERY EASY
easiest class in the world. Take it easy a. just buy the textbook you don't need him.
Super easy! All tests are online right from the book and you just need to go to class for iclicker attendence
The easiest class to sit in. Every day is a lecture where you hear him talk and listen to music. He gives tests on blackboard, which are very easy with the book (I've heard), or you can just google the answers. The problem with that is that he sometimes gives obscure questions that you will not find online. The book also has an online code.
EASY A!!! attendance is mandatory and exams are open book. he is very passionate about music and you will learn many things if you pay attention!
This class was an easy A. Attendance is mandatory and exams are open book. I never paid attention in class so I had to use the textbook for the exams and I still got A's. If you want an easy A take this class.
Great teacher, it shows that he knows and loves what he teaches. The test come directly from the book so it is worth buying.
EASY A! The only bad part is that attendance is mandatory but he exempts you from the final if you have less than 4 absences. He's actually really passionate about his class but it's reallyyy boring so just use it as study time because he doesn't mind you having your books and laptop out.
Dr. Keaton is the man!!! He's a very understanding person if you ever need to speak with him about a situation. He's passionate about the music and teaching. His class is definitely an Easy A, I recommend this class to everyone.
Super easy A & I never paid attention. Buy the textbook & go to class and you're fine. Exams are online & you're exempted from the final if you get A's on first three exams and miss less than 4 classes. Attendance mandatory thru iclicker. Nice guy, tends to ramble and is pretty boring, but music samples were nice. Spend the class time studying.
If u need an easy A take this class. I got an A without buying the book but it did take longer to finish the tests. Although you really don't have to pay attention please don't be obnoxious and rude and constantly talk during his lectures; it's annoying and he will throw you out if he has to tell you more than once to be quiet.
SUPER EASY. Attendance is a must via iClicker and he does it twice- at the beginning and the end of class. DO NOT BUY A NEW TEXTBOOK. It comes with an access code that you don't need! All the tests are online but you need the book so buy it used. Keaton is very informative and knows his stuff.
SO EASY. Literally gives you all answers in class. He writes his own book so yes you have to buy it to have the access code. The tests are online at home, open book open notes. He goes in order in the book. All the notes are useful, take them all down. Notes are the answers to the tests. Attend class for a few quizzes, super easy. Easiest A.
Professor Keaton is the best. He's an expert about music, and he also wrote the book so he knows what he's talking about. The lectures are a little boring, but the tests are online and open book. Easy A, plus he's very nice and approachable.
Dr. Keaton is very informative and passionate about music. Since taking his class, I have became much more knowledgable and insightful regarding music and composers throughout different time periods. This class is relatively easy, and if you pay attention, the material you learn can be very fascinating.
OMG! He is so easy, idk how to say it much simpler! Just show up in class, take notes and you're good. He does take attendances both in the beginning and end of class. The 4 exams are online and open booked. You will need the book for the extra credit, which I recommended for you to take.
very easy class...
Don't get a new book, go to class, take notes , tests are online. Extremely easy class.
His lectures are long and boring but it's an easy A. Don't sit in the front and text he'll kick you out.
Easy A. All the tests are online and as long as you get an A in the class the final is optional. A new book isn't necessary.
Professor Keaton is awesome! His lectures are really long and will probably bore you to death, but nonetheless is a very easy class. The first day of class he told all of us that only a small percentage will make below a C and that the school already complains that he gives too many A's. All answers to test are in lecture notes and in textbook.
Easy A. Tests are online and you are exempt from the fourth if you got A's on the previous 3 exams and did not miss more than 4 classes. Lectures are boring, but one of the easiest classes in my entire life.
All the quizzestests are online. The book is written by the Professor and he knows it all by heart. He makes it interesting because he is so enthusiastic about the subject.
You don't need to take the fourth exam if you score higher than 93% on the first 3. You need the book for the exams and they're super easy.
Keaton was the easiest A EVER. I did not learn anything not a single thing and passed with an A. If you actually want to learn, this isn't the best class cuz he talks as if he is reading a boring book. Also be CAREFUL if you have your headphones in or you are constantly talking he will not hesitate to kick you out. HOWEVER, EASIEST A+ EVER!
Super easy class, there were four tests and each was over 100 questions. So be prepared to sit around a couple days completing them. However, all the info was on his course website that came with the book, or on his powerpoint which he sent out. His lectures were so boring, I had to bring something else to do.
The class is super easy... I used it to catch up on homework for other classes. I think he's mosty up there talkin to himself and there is absolutely no class whatsoever. Just don't wear head phones or talk too loud. Or he will make a scene.
Dr. Keaton is a very good professor. Lectures can be a bit long, but he gives you four hours to complete each exam (about 100 questions each). Be sure to look at each exam study guide because it is exactly what he will ask on the exam. He takes iClicker twice during class, so I don't recommend skipping. It was an easy A.
This is the easiest class I've ever taken! He makes the tests exactly from the book, which you take online at home. You do not have to pay attention in class ever, but you do have to come because attendance is mandatory & taken with iclickers. He's also very nice! Easy A. If you got 93%+ on the first 3 exams you do not have to take the final.
While Dr. Keaton is very passionate about the subject of music, his class was overall pretty boring. Attendence is unfortunately mandatory, so you will have to show up. Tests are extremely easy, all online. Surprised by anyone who gets anything bellow an A in this class
You have to do the iclicker, just go to class and buy the book and you will pass. Test go along with book and all you have to do is find the answers. If you get a 93% or higher on the first 3 you don't have to take the 4th. His class is easy, but I don't like him...
Professor Keaton's class is really easy. You don't need to take notes because the exams are online and can use the book on the test. I-clicker is taken in this class at the beginning and end. This class is an easy A!
Professor Keaton is awesome. His class is boring and I wish I could've skipped it but attendance was mandatory. Although I didn't skip it, I literally never paid a lick of attention and still got an A. The test were online and open book so they were easy to pass. He also gives EC
I would go just to do the i-clicker (1 at beg, 1 at end), I would just sit in the back with my hair covering my earbuds, watching Netflix the entire time. 4 online tests which are open book and he gives you like 7 hours to complete it once you open it through blackboard. He's kinda funny but will flip out if you talk or he sees your earbuds.
Only grades are tests which are open note/open book and at home. He also gives in class extra credit. He will fail you if you miss more than 16 classes though.
Attendance with I-Clicker. No earbuds or talking but electronics are allowed. Funny guy but can be boring sometimes. 4 open/online exams and having the textbook makes it easier to find the answers.
Very simple class. Show up, check in with the i-clicker, appreciate the music he puts on, take the tests. All tests are open book, notes, and internet (powerpoints help). Very nice guy, really passionate.
EASY EASY EASY EASY ! MUST I SAY AGAIN ? EASY ! Everyone who got at least a B on the first three exams were excused from the final and given a A for the course. There is no homework, only exams and listening quizzes which are both fairly EASY!
Music Appreciation is the easiest class you can take. You don't have to take notes you just have to show up to sign in with your iclicker at the beginning and end of class.
Super boring teacher, you'll want to fall asleep every class but if you're looking for an easy A this class is right for you. No homework or anything, tests are all online.. The book is only useful for the tests.
He takes iClicker, so make sure you go to class. Although the syllabus says you can miss up to 16 classes(?). All his tests are online and if you get an A on the first four, you don't have to take the final. Don't get the book or just rent an older version of his online for way cheap. No access code necessary. Class is boring, so bring laptop.
Takes attendance with iclicker at the beginning and end of class. 4 online tests make up your grade. Bring something to do, don't talk or have headphones in, and you'll be fine. Takes more effort to get a B than an A in this class.
Dr. Keaton is a great professor and is extremely knowledgable. He's always cracking jokes that goes way over everyone's head. But, he's a great guy and is a great professor. Music Appreciation with him is a simple A, so I would definitely take it with him.
This was a very easy class. The professor is a very nice person, but honestly you can sit in the back and not pay attention and still get an A. He records attendance via I-clicker, and it is part of your grade. I do like the class though, I did learn quite a bit about music. If you want an easy A, this is the class for you.
I never bought the book and just went to the lectures and took notes which got me an A on every test since tests are open-book, open-note, and open-computer. Attendance is mandatory, lectures are very boring, cool guy.
easy A. will learn a lot about music. tests are open book and attendance is mandatory.
4 100-question online tests make up the class. 7 hour time limit, open book, open notes, etc. Super super easy class, buy the e-book so you can search the test questions in the book instead of having to find it yourself. So far passing with a 96%
Dr. Keaton is pretty boring, but this is one of the easiest classes I've taken. All four tests are online and are open book and open notes. He also offers listening extra credit in class after each test. I didn't use the mandatory textbook or Rhapsody account once this entire semester.
SUPER BORING. Such an easy A though. Just show up and you'll be fine. 4 exams and 5 extra credit listening. Try to stay quiet in his class. The "body guard" checks in the back for talking and for white people with potential weapons. Keaton calls out on talkers too.
an easy A since all four test are all online. show up to class and you'll pass. The lectures are so boring but make sure to never talk when the music is on because he will kick you out even for headphones. the body guard scans the room for talker and bomb threats and possible intruders!
This was by far my easiest class of the semester. It was quite boring, but I still showed up because it was mandatory. Attendance is taken with i-clicker so make sure to have that. Don't miss over 3 classes cause it'll come to bite at the end. Only 4 tests, pass the first 3 with a 93% or higher and you won't have to take the last one. Book useful.
Book useful
DON'T SKIP he lowers your final grade if you do. I would have gotten an A+ sadly I rarely went to class. only 3 exams ALL online and the quizzes are really extra credit. he hates headphones so don't wear them in his class. he says get an iclicker, but you don't need to he has a sign in sheet at the end of class. best of luck !
Don't skip class, he takes one point from your final grade per absence if you miss more than 3. I got a B because of this. I don't find the professor to be a likeable person, he takes himself too seriously, never responds to emails, and has no office hours listed in the syllabus. Easy A if you show up. 4 online exams each worth 25% of your grade.
Easy class. Show up get A,
Dr. Keaton is an older, funny dude with a comically large walking stick and a love of western music throughout the ages. His class is very easy-- only four grades, all exams that are "open book, open notes, open internet", as he describes it. Lots of extra credit is available. Lots of music played for examples, so it's quite relaxing.
Sitting in this class for 80 minutes twice a week was very painful but mostly I just did other homework, texted, and went on my computer. The class is made up of 4 at home, open note exams which are SO EASY. At the end of the semester if you have an A you are exempt from the last exam. The lectures are a lot of listening examples and movies
Dr. Keaton is obviously passionate about music.. sometimes overly passionate. He would often drone on about topics that could have easily been summarized. The 80 minute lecture usually dragged and attendance is MANDATORY! More than 3 absences results in 1 point per absence taken from your final grade. 16+ means failing. All exams open book, online.
The length of this class sucks (80 minutes twice a week) & attendancy is mandatory (iClicker), but you can go on your phone, laptop, do work for another class etc, so just bring something to do. Dont use headphones. 4 online, open book & open note exams (youre exempt from the 4th exam if you get As on first 3) so use the book & internet!! Easy A
Could really appreciate how personally he takes this class. He really does care about what he teaches so the least we could do is sit there and soak-up the information. Great teacher and will reciprocate the respect you give him.
He literally reads his powerpoint for his lectures. He recycles 100% of his material, down to the slide presentation and format of the lecture. The timing of all of his off-color jokes are in the same places, and his uncanny ability to not only disengage with the class but also make music history the most boring subject in the world abounds.
