i was almost a straight A student, and was advised to take him (easy A they said) after first 2tests (which i got D on), i told him i read everything,go to class, but obviously i was doing something wrong.he told me to "drop the class" - so much

a very enthusiastic professor who has an excellent grasp of the material, tests are pretty hard but the final is composed of the hardest questions on each test, word for word. so that is easy if you look up the ones you missed. i like him.

Very tough. If you do all the reading(sparknotes doesn't always cut it), and can answer all the study guide questions, you should be ok. Study group helps a lot. Be prepared for lots of out of class reading. He's very smart and enthusiastic.

If you're big into history then the class would probably be interesting to you, but if you don't like history, DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS!!! He lectures over practically everything he knows and only a fraction of it is on the test! Very difficult!

He's a REAL looker! ;) The lectures were always interesting and if you pay attention to those and get the study guide questions done, you'll do fine. There's a ton of reading, but skimming it and finding the answers to the ?'s worked for me!!!

Very passoniate about history. He is willing to help if you are willing to come to class. READ the material and answer study guide ?s. Tests are fairly hard, so your gonna have to study.

If you hate history go not learn it from someone else and be a worthless person. Lyftog is a great teacher. people who get D's after doing "everything" are too stupid to be in college. It's not Lyftog's fault if your grade is plundered

Great lecturer, but very difficult tests. Makes class interesting and is very passionate about his work. He does grade extremely hard on his tests . If have an A going into final, don't have to take it! Wears awesome Indian vests!!!!

If you actually do the work for the class, you will do okay. The tests are hard and make sure you know everything about the subjects and are very specific. If you go to class and answer all the study guide questions, you should do okay!

Subjective on his grading of essays. Not important if you know the material, he grades strictly on your ability to repeat back to him exactly what he says. He spent two days trying to justify slavery with the argument that everyone else was doing it.

He's rediculously particular on his tests answers. I've studied for the tests and attended every lecture and I still can't get above a C. He's well informed but makes the class obnoxious in that you don't enjoy it since there's a test every two weeks.

Hardest prof I have had in college so far (2nd sem soph). If you have the right answer, but not HIS answer, the ques is wrong. Tests are very difficult and do not test how well you know the material, they test if you know what answer he wants to hear

Lyftog was the best lecturer Ive had yet. His lectures are interesting and emotional, not just monotone bore. Read books-not in detail, do study guides-answers any ?'s you have, and go to class, and you will have no problem with this course.

Perhaps the best teacher I've had. Always objective, always entertaining. This course is basically one continuous story. You don't want to skip because you'll miss the next exciting installment. Also, if you do, you'll be the butt of his jokes.

Just pay attention!!! 6 test, no comprehensive. Buying books is pointless if you pay attention to when he is reading the book to you, you will be fine. Do your study guides and you will be ok on the tests. Study guides are the test. He is a fun guy.

Grade is based only on tests. The tests are multiple choice and short answer, but don't let that fool you... THE TEST ARE INSANELY HARD. Lecture is like a story, but is packed with info. There are plenty of OTHER profs to take for this class, my suggestion would be to take one of them.

His tests are ridiculous. I had missed points for putting specific names of people rather then their general label. Despite very hard tests, he's one of the best lecutrers on campus. Even though the class was hard I enjoyed hearing him talk about topics because he made them interesting.

I hated his class with a PASSION. He is a great lecturer, but the tests were insane, no amount of reading/studying can help you if you don't have exactly what he wants to hear. I would avoid him, there are MUCH better professors out there, and much easier classes.

Excellent teacher!!! He was probably my favorite teacher in the history department. Tests are very easy if you study your lecture notes and read the books. I didn't have to take the final test because if you do well on the first four you don't have to take the final! Great guy, tells it like a story and makes history fun! Take him for sure!

He's a good teacher when it comes to lecturing, but it's really hard to get an A on his tests, even if you do his study guide and read everything. You have to write exactly what he wants to hear on the essay quiestions or else it's too "vague". He likes to make rude comments next to the questions you get wrong. Next to Prof Roberts, Lyftogth (or whatever) is my favorite history prof at UNI. His lectures are fascinating and his tests are easy if you read and listen and show up. Just Do Not show up late or ask stupid questions and you will be fine. If you can ask him for help and he will love you. Take Him for sure. you will learn a great deal!!

Do not take this class AT ALL COSTS. His test are excrutiatingly HARD. No matter how much you study you will still get a bad grade. He is a jerk outside of class and if you are 30 seconds late you will hear from him and you will lose points on tests. If you participate in class, it will help you. He knows his stuff and is very helpful, even for history papers. Tests are very hard, but if you study and repeat what he wants to hear, you're good. Don't get easy questions wrong, he will make an example out of them.

Increadible lecturer. Very easy to pay attention to. Yes he's got some hot buttons like being late, but he'll give you plenty of warning about them. His tests are hard, he's very particular about essay answers. But his class is the best class I've ever taken. History comes alive when he tells it.

If you do exactly his will then things will go well for you. He says you can miss class and not be penalized, but he ridicules people who don't, even to their faces (that's punishment enough). Tests are hard; if you don't write enough he takes off points, but even if you write TOO MUCH he takes off points. Take at your own risk.

Easy to get a B if you listen and read. Just relax and listen to his lectures, you'll learn more that way. If you take his class you might become a morning person. Don't be afraid to visit his office. He is one of my best friends at UNI.

Excellent lecturer. Class is very interesting, but make sure to take plenty of notes. Tests are extremely hard, but are managable with lots of studying. Pop quizzes given, but are extra points given to the test scores. Grade comprised of only test scores.

Amazing lecturer, but incredibly difficult test giver. If you take him, get used to the words "too vague". You can write everything he tells you in the lecture, but that may not be enough for the short answer! If you want a challenging class, take him, otherwise I would steer clear of Lyftogt.

I highly recommend this professor. His lectures are very interesting and he is quite a character. His tests are among the easiest I have ever taken. All the multiple choice questions are basically free points. I hardly read anything assigned and I never missed more than two points on a test.

he really is very knowledgable, and asks if you have any questions a lot during his lecture, but will make you feel like an idiot if your question is stupid! attendance is not madatory, but if you skip classes a lot, don't take this class. he covers a lot during a lecture. take notes, READ and study and you'll do fine. go to his office for help too

if you can't do well in this class, you're not trying. if you go to class and pay attention and study for the test (basically if you act like a college student) you will be just fine. he pretends to be a hard ass but he is really a good guy, and he is helpful. don't be late to class it's disrespectful and he will point that out. i learned lots!

Pretty easy if you show up, take good notes and read the textbook. You do have to try in his class. Attendance is not mandatory but if you don't go you are missing out on material that isn't in the text and will show up on his tests.

He's enthusiastic in lectures which is cool but his tests are annoying. The short answer parts I lose many points in every time just because to him the answers are too vague, which is frustrating because I believe I'm pretty thorough in my answers...just study REALLY well and be very thorough in your answers and you should be okay at least.

Everything you need to know for the tests are on the study guides he gives you. i slept during a lot of classes but knew what to study for tests. attendance not mandatory. i decided to make my break a day longer and missed a test but he didn't care and let me take the test when the break was over, a cool guy and a great teacher

Lyftogt is awesome! He is very passionate with his lectures, and puts a lot of emotion into his voice. Never boring. Very helpful, LOVES to answer questions. Tests can be hard if you don't put enough in the short answer questions. Once you think you've put enough, put a little bit more. He's a stickler about those. Otherwise, easy A.

Take Lygtogt if you want to know the material and still get a bad grade. I've missed 3 M.C. questions all year but still have a B because he is so hard on short answer. Lectures and study guide are good, but still if you don't put exactly, and I mean exactly, what he wants on short answers, the best you can get is a B.

Gives good, passionate speeches. Nearly impossible to get any short answer questions right unless you have EXACTLY, to the word, what he is looking for. Not very helpful outside of class. Recomend taking class with someone else!

Very passionate with his lectures, never boring. Very strict on showing up on time. Incredibly picky on short answer essays. Don't be "too vague." You get a study guide which will at least help you ace the multiple choice. Not too bad just do some work and you'll be ok.

Hard tets, requires outside studying a LOT! WAYYY easy to talk to though during office hours. Nice that he gives 2 "make-up" tests. Knows his stuff. GO TO CLASS it helps so much! it really cuts down your studying outside of class & he uses all of what he says on the test. GREAT STUDY GUIDE! makes the test so much better to study for!!

This Prof is very passionate and I never get bored in his class. The first test is hard because you don't know what to study but if you go to class and study the guide he gives you it's not hard at all. I do the study guide after class and stay caught up then study hard for a couple days before the test. Not easy but not hard.

Very nice guy. Very passionate about his subject and knows what he's talking about. He's very expressive when he talks so easy to listen to. Hard tests if you don't do the study guide, but really easy if you do. Answers study guide questions for you in class if you ask.

Love this professor! Do yourself a favor and GO TO CLASS! His lectures are always interesting and his explanations are usually a lot clearer than the text so if you go to class, you probably won't have to do much reading. DO THE STUDY GUIDES!!! If you do the study guide, you will do well on the exam.

Class is very difficult at the beginning. He isn't helpful towards the beginning of the class and tries to weed out the less studious students right away. Tests get easier throught the course. Would not take him again.

Lyftogt is a good professor; he will answer any of your questions. Class is fairly easy if you go and take notes; do the study guides to help you study. Tests aren't too bad; multiple choice, short answer, and fill in the blank. I just took notes in class and got A's on all my tests w/o extensive studying or reading. Overall,I enjoyed this class.

He is a very good teacher and he makes the material interesting. The text book is not needed if you take notes in class (he tells you exactly what you need to know) but the documents book is needed (he asks some questions about quotes on the tests). The study is very useful and it is basically your test.

One of the harder classes I have taken at UNI! Must attend class if you want to do good on test. Tests are very challenging and he is a very strict grader when it comes to his essays. He writes "too vague" alot when you can't get any more detailed. Received a very bad grade!!! Do not take this class with him!

Lyftogt isn't very interesting and does not know how to pronounce Catholic right. His tests are impossible to do well on, all short answers are "too vague" and the only things graded are the tests. Attendance not required but you must go to class andtake intricate notes to have any hope of doing remotely well on the test.

Professor Lyftogt is a great teacher! His lectures are very interesting and I come out of every class feeling like I learned something new about people and humanity. He does a fabulous job of teaching, and is always willing to meet with you 1 on 1 to go over what you don't understand. Not a good class if you're a slacker. Great teacher! Recommend!!

I really liked this prof. It's not a class for people who aren't willing to put in the effort. Make sure you fill out the study guides which are really close to the actual test, and take REALLY good notes. Also make sure you read the texts. He is always willing to help you though, and lectures are always interesting.

Lyftogt is super easy and really nice as long as you go to class. Attendance isn't mandatory but he definately notices if you come regularly and is more willing to help you too. The only thing graded in this class is 6 tests and you get 1/2 the answers from lecture and 1/2 from the book.

Mr. Lyftogt understand his material, however, even though he explains it fairly well, he is very particular with his tests and essay questions. He rarely gives A's on the tests and he even told us this at the beginning of the year. I would suggest somebody else unless you want a challenge.

This class is not a walk in the park, but anybody can do good if they just put in the work. Half of the test questions are from the book and half are from the lecture. Attendance is not mandatory, but if you miss class, you will get behind. Lecture sounds dull & boring, especially humanities, but he is easy and fun to listen to. Very good prof!

Professor emphasizes material not covered in lecture on tests. Not even general knowledge questions over material but quotes from Aristotle and other historical figures. Says test are mutiple choice but lots of fill in the blank that is always "too vague" of an answer.

Did not like the professor very well, he knows his stuff about the class but talks quickly which makes it hard to take notes. All you are graded on are tests nothing else and the tests are pretty difficult. There are short answer questions and it seems that the answers are always too vague no matter how you answer them.

I'm a history major. I have gotten an A in every humanities and history class I have taken prior to this, but I will be getting a C in this class, even though I study 20+ hours for each test. That says something about his tests...I never miss a multiple choice, but it's impossible to answer the short answer. there always 'too vague'.

I really liked this professor. He really likes students that show up to class and ask questions. He doesn't make class mandatory but he goes over everything that will be on the exams in class, so go! There were 6 exams that included multiple choice and short answer. His study guides are also really helpful, almost exactly what will be on the exams.

Omg. Do not take this class. This is supposed to be an LAC class but he acts like his material is all you have to learn in a semester. It is not worth the damage to your GPA. I am an excellent student but will be lucky to pull a "C" out of this one.

Mixed feeling about this guy. Everything on his tests are covered in lectures, but they can be boring. Sometimes he would randomly get mad at a random student in the class. If you are going to be late don't show up. Puts too vague on test answers a lot. Used books only to study for the tests. Also used Sparknotes.

He is a great professor, I am not a history guy at all and usually they put me to sleep but not with Lyftogt, I really like going to the lectures, because he tells it like he was there. His tests are all about what he covers in the lectures, multiple choice are fairly easy but his short answer questions are pretty tough. Highly recommend this class

This class was very hard. I studied over 20 hours for each test and still didn't do well on them. He was rude when I tried to talk to him and at times he tried to be helpful but wasn't. I would not take this class from him. His tests were primarily short answer and he would never give the full points for the questions. Tests every 2 weeks.

This guy knows how to teach. Everything in his lecture is on the test. If you don't show up for class you're not going to do well. I REALLY like this guy and want to continue in his classes. He is strict if you are late or like to talk. As long as you show up you're going to learn something for the test. Never read text, except for specific books.

He will kick your ass. He is great at lecture and knows what he's talking about and he definitely expects a lot of effort in his class. I had to study for 14 hours for a test to get an A. You have to write him a long ass story with every detail that has even the slightest relevance to the question on tests, which there are 6 of and it's your only grade. If you're looking for an ready prof, keep looking; over 1/3 of my class is failing-as he likes to point out constantly.

Best history lecturer I have experienced. Knows the material up & down, but the only downfall were his demand for highly detailed short answers on the tests. I would get all the multiple choice correct & miss 6-8 points on the short answers. Learned a lot. Gives 5 tests overall including final. Going to class and studying will get you a B or an A.

Very knowledgable and enthusiastic. He's a stickler on punctuality, respect, which are good qualities. Tests are challenging - you have to know the material inside and out, and provide specific detail, so there's no BS-ing his tests. He has no sympathy for lack of effort, but is very helpful for the student who tries hard. Worth the work!

Easiest class I may have ever taken. He practically gives you the answers to the test far in advance. You have two options, either show up to class and take notes, or study the book. But there is no need to do both. Would definitely recommend.

The class itself is fairly difficult because of the large amount of material it covers. He is extremely clear with all of the details and is more than happy to help if you don't understand something. Lyftogt is an amazing professor. His tests generally aren't too bad. As long as you fill out the study guide, you are pretty much prepared for the test. But if you have a question, ask. He will tell you what you need to know. If you go into his office hours and make an effort in his class, you will realize that he is a great professor!

He has specific answers that he expects for each and no one ever gets ALL of them right. I don't think anyone has ever gotten 100% in his class.

Lyftogt is easily the hardest professor I've ever had. Attendance is crucial. The study guides he hands out are pretty similar to the tests. There are 5 tests with 10 short answers and 30 multiple choice questions. He is a very difficult grader on the short answer questions. If you can, take this class with a different professor.

attendence is optional, took the first two tests based off lecture notes and bombed them both. he hands out a study guide for each test at the first lecture of 5 for each test. my advice is only go to class on test days, fill out the study guide well using the book(most answers are in it). went to zero lectures the last half of semester

Expect jam-packed lectures for each class. There was no homework assigned for this class, meaning that your grade will completely rely on your tests. Lyftogt urges students, even begs them, to ask question, so have some ready for each class. If you take excellent notes, write more than what is on the board, and do the reading, you will be fine.

If you like a teacher that paints a picture, he is a teacher you would want. If one wants to not only pass but get a good grade you need to read the book, take good lecture notes, and study hard. He lectures like he's reading a storybook. He presents an outline of each lecture and If you take notes inbetween and read the textbook (not the little books he also assigns), you should do well. Knowing (or Youtubing) Bible stories prior will help you a lot. He HATES tardiness and isn't afraid to call you out but he's an excellent teacher!

As boring as humanities classes can be, Lyftogt manages to make them interesting. I truly enjoy his lectures, and he somehow makes them memorable and easy to learn from. Tests can be difficult, but if you attend class and do the readings, you won't have a problem passing.
