This class is soooo boring but the tests are not that bad but they are over a lot of material. He reads the powerpoint slides the whole class and usually gets to about page 30 of 90 on every chapter powerpoint and expects you to read the rest, tests usually over 5 or 6 chapters and they are very long chapters. No attendance required
The class is really interesting and he uses a ton of examples which makes it really easy to remember the material. I think this class was great and i would take this professor if you can
Mr. Murdock was a great prof!
He keeps class as interesting as he can, and the tests as straight forward as he can as well. He uses a lot of examples and they really help. He drops the lowest of the 4 regular test grades. Pay attention to what he discusses in class and print off the online slides. Do not come in late, it really annoys him.
This guy is a huge story teller. You do nothing but memorize vocab, you teach yourself. Him giving lectures does nothing for you. He is very adament about people that come in late. But, the material is common sense, so the class is easy. So...bad teacher, easy class
If you do the vocabulary or if he gives a review and you do it he should be an easy A.
I really did not get anything from lectures, it is very hard to keep up and understand what the main idea or any idea is for that matter. I just read the book. The professor, however, is very nice and he will help you if you need it. Sometimes lectures can even be funny. Tests are straight out the book and from online. If you go to class BE ON TIME
Really good prof. tests aren't hard comes straight from book and powerpoint
DO NOT COME IN LATE! He will flip! Overall it's not that bad of a class if you really study. There is a lot of material but he does the best he can to get through it all. He is all business though... do not waste his time or he will get mad.
He is easy! If you just read the book and do the vocab. His exams come straight from the book. Not tricky at all. Do NOT be late for his class or leave to go to the bathroom or anything. He will get really mad. He drops your lowest test grade out of 5 tests. They are not comprehensive. Oh and he is funny.
He is easy! If you just read the book and do the vocab. His exams come straight from the book. Not tricky at all. Do NOT be late for his class or leave to go to the bathroom or anything. Don't come to class late. He's nice but he can be mean if you come late. He won't let you come in. He will kick you out of class!! His teaching method is okay. Not that great but really nice professor.
Go to class if you think you might not do well. He recognizes faces. EVERYTHING is from the book, read & study to the book! He drops lowest regualr test grade. Will be an easy A if you read and do a study guide for the book, do that and you will get an A, Pretty interesting, get to know him, he can get you a job!
He is by far one of my favorite professors. Yes attendance is not mandatory but it will help because he started to use clicked this semester (Spring 09) and if you take the quizzes at the beginning of lecture and get them all right you get bonus points. He uses real life examples that really help. You should get an A if you study the vocab.
If you go to class he tells you everything that will show up on the tests. If you read ahead and go to class...easy A. He's a great instructor who teaches clearly. Don't be late, he won't let you in!
Pretty good overall, not the best teaching method, he pretty much just goes right out of the book BUT due to the nature of the course, thats all you really need. No tricky tests, no homework, but YOU DO HAVE TO READ to get an A. oh and his new attend. policy is u cant miss more than 4 classes
Boring.not worth it. do not take him. He never goes over the tests with you so you have no chance to review your answers, he rarely emails back, checks attendance and extra credit with faulty clickers so its very inadequate. he is RUDE, only puts half an effort into anything and is hard to work with. I had an 89.9 and he wouldnt round it to an A.
He checks attendance with clickers & also gives quizzes at the beginning of class. You have to get all the answers correct to receive 1 point. Gives reviews for the 1st two tests which really helped narrow what you need to focus on but not for the 3rd or 4th which is stupid b/c each test is over about 6 chapters and there's too much info to study.
This was his first semester not taking attendence so nobody ever came to class. He also started useing the internet for us to take quizzes. He would have the quizzes due right before class so there was no point on going to class because you just had read that whole chapter and taken a quiz over it. His tests are long and little tricky. If you read
Class is boring. He does not teach, he just reads off definitions from the book. He has now switched from in class tests to online tests and only gives you a minute per question. This usually means he cheats you out of 15-20 minutes from your class time to spend more time on the test. It's a ton of information on every test. Good Luck!
His lectures are kind of pointless because he gives online quizzes over the chapters before lectures so basically he is just reading notes you have already been quizzed on. Dont buy the book!! Buy the online book that comes with the online access key you have to have. Pretty easy class just tedious.
Murdock was a great professor! This is not a slack off class, though. You will have to attend, read the book, and study the material to make an A. Tests are online, but he lets you use notes; which if you have studied prior to the exam, you won't need at all. Take him, you will learn a lot!!!
Attendance is mandatory with quizzes every class but Murdock goes over everything that is on the tests and you get to take the tests online with your notes. If you can go to class you will be golden.
The class is TEDIOUS.2 quizzes per week.Attendance is basically mandatory. You have to BUY a CLICKER.& this class feels more like a Junior Achievement class from elementary than a college level course -pathetic.Nice guy. Straight forward.Easy going.NONSENSE- TEST given ONLINE.NOT easy, constrained time. Some study and still fail.BORING.NOT RECOMMENDED
Murdock is a great teacher and has a lot of experience in the business world. His advice is awesome, i highly recommend you listen to his lectures- they are mandatory. Tests are online, taken at home. DO NOT BE LATE. He hates tardiness. If you're gonna be late DON'T walk in front of him, trust me. He explains everything well and is a great teacher!
Good teacher, interesting. Makes you come to class have quizzes everyday, he does hate if your LATE and being interrupted. Pretty easy though, chapter quizzes and tests are all online, open book, notes, etc. Even the final is online.
Great prof- knows his stuff. You can't fall behind though; Connect and in-class quizzes every class. You need a clicker. Tests/final are online via Connect; get the assignment/textbook combo- it makes it easy to search terms for the quizzes and tests. Read the chapter summaries on TRACS. Fast-paced: 1 min per question on quiz/exams. Don't be late.
You should take this teacher for marketing. His exams are online and you can google most of the answers. His class is basically mandatory because he has a clicker quiz every day, but if you do the online quiz and read the chapters you are set. Take notes on his summaries, but also make outlines for exams. Overall I would recommend this teacher.
Very good class. He uses an McGraw Hill for online homework, quizzes, and tests. Homework is pretty lengthy. Don't miss the in-class quizzes! I would have gotten a B if I didn't miss half of the quizzes. But I still didn't have to work that hard, and I learned a lot and enjoyed his class.
Murdock gives the materials you need to succeed. You must attend class b/c he gives mandatory quizzes the beginning of each lecture but they're super easy and worth a large chunk of your grade. But the notes/power points are very helpful. All the tests are online and open note/book but are TIMED, only the final is in class. OVERALL, EASY CLASS
Daily attendance quizzes. Homework was online quizzes with connect. Tests are open book and online (except for the final). Murdock's a good teacher, and usually lets you out pretty early. He even provides notes for all the chapters.
I recommend him but just a caution, he has daily clicker quizzes in class AND quizzes online due right before each class also. I made good grades on the tests but the points will add up if you miss quizzes or don't do too well on a lot of them. He DOES drop the lowest test score and a bunch of the lower quiz grades tho! :) go to class & try!!
I learned a lot from him, he's a great professor and has a lot of experience to back up his lectures. However, don't show up to class late, and don't forget about the HW assignments and the in class quizzes. Stay on top of those and do well on the tests and you should get a solid B or an A.
Everyday there is a clicker quiz which is extremely helpful towards your grade at the end of the semester. It can boost it if you are lagging in the test department. The text book is a must have. There are online quiz's which each chapter and the main tests are timed.
Clicker quizzes in class everyday and a online quiz due everyday before class. Test are all online as well as the answers. Class is very boring and you can't leave after the clicker quiz or he will embarrass youtake your points away. Easy A if you show up. That's all you have to do.
Professor Murdock is an awesome professor here at Texas State. He is there for his students whenever you need the help and class is EASY! Just take notes. He has 4 online exams and also quizzes online and clicker quizzes so attend class. I highly recommend him and the final is in class so study hard for that and it is cumulative.
Murdock is a cool professor, but his tests are kinda hard. He gives 0.8% of EC on the Final Grade, which SUCKS. Just do his assignments and you will get a high C or a B. MKT 3343 is just a heavy concepts class, can't expect much from it more than what it is. You HAVE to go to class for his clicker questions. Also about $160 for clicker and Connect.
Dr. Murdock is an amazing lecturer. There are 4 exams (drop 1 lowest) and 1 comprehensive final. About 22 connect quizzes and in-class quizzes (drop 2 lowest for both). No book necessary but only a mini clicker. Exams can be tough and long but their online so open notes. Final is not online. Easy B but not A. It's achievable if you really try tho.
Requires Connect and a Clicker. Quiz in class and before class. Teacher doesn't explain well enough for the tests. Normally 70-75 questions, all conceptual, with an 85 minute time limit. I studied on average 15-20 hours per week, did chapter summaries reviews and couldn't make an A on a test. Knowingunderstanding concepts is nowhere near enough.
HW quizzes can be difficult if you don't read the chapters. Just read class notes for clicker quizzes - easy points. Mostly application questions on exams - even open books and notes don't help much; you have to really understand the materials. Final is quite easy; review is helpful but not all all topics on exam are covered in the review.
In my opinion, Professor Murdock is.. Unique. His lectures are great, but his grading criteria and old school thought process is not fitting for a class such as Marketing. He made it very clear he "does not grade on effort", which I think is counter productive. Sent rude emails. Online tests except the final. Most likely won't round your 89.8. :-)
Online testsquizzes can be very tough. Leads to finding answers via outside sources, which makes you learn nothing in this class. The final is cumulative but easy because it only covers major topics. He is a boring lecturer and forces you to come to class to answer clicker quizzes. Very average. But some Marketing majors like him.
Tests are all online except the final. There are clicker quizzes every class and online quizzes due before every class. Try to show up because the clicker grades add up quick. He is a nice guy and his lectures can be interesting. He puts all the notes online. If you show up and study a little for each test you will do fine.
All tests are online except final. The final is the hardest. Must attend class to get points from clicker quizzes. Don't skip class and have your friend answer with your clicker. He will find out!
He's an exceptional professor. Keeps students entertained throughout the lecture with great topics. Homework online is easy. Uses top hat for quizzes and attendance, so don't skip. Overall great guy.
I took Murdock for US1100, a required course for freshman. He was confusing in his instructions and wasn't the friendliest person to be around when you needed clarification or help. The class itself was a breeze, but Murdock made it so unnecessarily difficult. If I could go back in time, I would've chosen another professor for this course.
I took him for my University Seminar class and he was not very helpful in a class that should have been an easy A for everyone. He required us to attend 3 Pace events and had a quiz due almost every Monday even though other Seminar classes weren't required to do this.
Murdock is a very good teacher but expects you to show up to class. Lectures are very boring but you must sit through all of it. Tests are online & therefore VERY easy. The final on the other hand is NOT online so NOT so easy. Sit in the back if you're planning on using your phone during class because he WILL kick you out if he catches you.
I never studied for the exams and still earned a B on every exam. I went to class, got an A on every in-class clicker quiz, and paid attention to his lectures. He's a very respectable professor and he expects students to respect his class, so DO NOT ever be late, talk, or be on your phone in class- he will stare at you or kick you out. Easy B+/A.
Murdock was not a good professor in my mind. He had interesting stories, but that's all. Required you to buy texbook and top hat and every single thing he teaches (all directly from the text) is online. He requires full attendence. Every test was very difficult in comparison to the actual difficulty of the course DON'T TAKE HIS CLASS.
This class is not too hard 4 test online.. USE YOUR RESOURCES. The Top hats really help your grade out so show up to class with the chapter summary to answer the quiz questions. The final is in class so study hard for it. great professor has great stories I would recommend
He is a very knowledgeable professor. Quizzes due every week but they are pretty easy. GO TO CLASS because the top hat questions will add up. Plus they're easy. The online tests aren't bad at all. Final is in class, so study hard for that! Overall fairly easy class & great professor.
Be ready to do hw, online quizzes and in class quizzes every week. The tests are application problems so make sure you know your stuff. Do not show up late because he will be mad. He is a straight forward guy, a little intimidating but deep down he is a nice guy. Gives you chapter summaries to go over in class, you barely have to take notes.
Be aware that you will actually have assignments to do, because he won't tell you about them. If he has a peer mentor, he/she will, but if not, keep your eye on TRACS. You'll almost never use the book outside of online assignments, and he's really rude to students if they're late (including the first day). Lectures are boring and he's not a fun guy
This was my first hybrid class, it was a lot of assignments due on the same day using different websites so it was a lot to keep up with. Tests were easy as long as you were prepared. Final is cumulative. I do not recommend this as a hybrid. Take it in person if possible!!!
Show up to lectures, do the learnsmart stuff and the in class quizzes. Pass with minimal effort, A with just a little more
Not clear with grading. Rude to everyone. Very conservative. Funny at times, but he's one of those cliche people that complains about millennials. Will not curve an 89.99 to an A.
Take the hybrid class for an easy A. He goes back on what he says and throws surprises about the grading system two days before the semester ends.
Professor Murdock made the class pretty simple. If you do the learnsmarts and online quizzes you'll be fine. In class, he just goes over chapter summaries and he tells a lot of stories but they're usually informative/relating to marketing. It was difficult to keep track of all the online assignments so make sure to pay attention. Overall good prof.
Murdock is an okay professor. This was the easiest class I've ever taken because it was freshman seminar. However, he never answered his emails and is super boring. Bottom line, take someone else if you can. If you can't, you'll be fine with him.
I would not take a class with this professor again. The class is textbook heavy--it's an online textbook, and you get graded on answering questions as you read the chapter online, plus there are chapter quizzes. Exams were pretty tough. Seemed to have trouble with the final grades at the end of the semester and refused to answer questions about it.
The hybrid class was described as a way to get a feel for online classes, however this class was an online class with a written final. He's a good professor but his tests are hard, his reviews are super long and complicated and the class is not structured well as a hybrid class. I'd take it in person if possible.
I would not take him for an in class lecture, he is extremely knowledgeable, but hey you can't make marketing too exciting. Its a common sense class, I didn't even have to read. Easy A when taken online.
I took the hybrid version of this class. There was a lot of homework but all the answers are online. The professor sends A LOT of emails. He is very RUDE if you send him an email asking him a question. It can be an easy A if you do all the homework, I only did half of Packback and ended up with a B even tho I made A's on all the tests. DO THE HW!!!
Overall terrible professor. Very easy class work and the way he grades is too harsh to make up for his lackluster way of teaching.
I took the hybrid version of this class and it was so easy. There are a bunch of connect assignments and quizzes but you can look up the answers to those and same with the tests. The only time he held class (which was optional) was for reviews the day the test opened online. I really liked him as a professor and I would definitely take him again
I was in the hybrid section but the class never really met & was fairly easy. Discussion questions are easy 100's - just meet the requirements. MindTap assignments were all easy A's. The 4 exams during the semester are fairly easy & you can look online for help. Final exam is online and proctored but only weighted 15%. Hardly any studying required
Make sure to take the hybrid class. There is tons of homework, but it is super easy along with test. You never have to go to class because he only holds in class lectures for reviews before the tests. Solid choice but get a little organized and you will make a good grade.
I contacted him 3 times regarding incorrect grades. Each time, he made excuses and made it out to be my fault (it wasn't). Once, he was very rude and condescending, apparently without looking at my problem and said if I "actually did the assignment" I would have gotten credit. After sending proof, he did not apologize but did correct my grade.
I would definitely take Professor Murdock again. If you complete assignments on time and correctly, it will be an easy A. The exams are online if you take the hybrid course and you can use notes/ quizlet. Lowest test grade of 4 is dropped and final is 15% of grade. If you do well on other assignments, final will not hurt you as bad.
There is tons of homework. Like LOTS. Those grades really do matter when it comes down to it so dont skip them. He drops one test and the final was the easiest of the test. I used the lecture videos to study for the final. Just put the effort in.
I took this prerequisite marketing class online, hoping to make things more convenient. Boy was I wrong. The amount of time and work required for this class is ridiculous. The most frustrating thing was that often the homework and quizzes were not representative of what was on the tests. Lots of obscure, random test questions, often with typos.
I took the online course and it's so easy if you stay on top of your work. I got A+'s on every single test and ended with a 98 in the course and did basically nothing. All quizzes and tests are online and you can find all answers on quizlet. Don't take this course if you're not responsible and need someone to remind you every day to do your HW lol.
There is very little room for error in this class. You basically have to know the chapters like the back of your hand if you want to get high grades on the quizzes. I've had to read about 3 chapters a week and wait for a quiz to open up in a very short time frame, just so I can answer questions vaguely talked about in the chapters themselves.
A LOT of work. Quizzes are weighted very heavily so don't ever miss one. I missed 2 at the beginning of school and it messed up my grade forever. Be prepared to have 4-5 plus assignments a week.
Does not give tests. You take a quiz after every chapter. Quiz ranges from 20-35 questions. Took 18 quizzes. Have Smartbooks due once or twice a week. PackBack every sunday. Two easy extra credit opportunities. Gave me a 0 on a PackBack one week because I "plagiarized", but it was my own opinion. Was not a bad class or professor. Would take again.
It was hard to follow along because there were so many quizzes/homeworks due sometimes twice a week so it didn't give much time to study. The quizzes used proctorio which did not personally give me any problems but did for several other students. No tests or final exam. PackBack due each week which was easy.
There are no lectures or zooms because it was made to be an online class. He emails every now and then but doesn't seem to like it when students email him. Lots of assignments every week that you need to do if you wanna pass. Quizzes are proctored and timed which is stressful. Easy class if you do the work. Professor did not contribute much.
IDK where to begin, this class is fully asynchronous so he does not bother to help, and when emailed he copy-pasted the syllabus ?? absolutely no organization, assignments, and quizzes due every 2 days and since there are no tests you have to know each chapter like the back of ur hand (proctored) and they're worth 70% of ur grade. AVOID HIM TRUSTT
Literally the worst professor. I was really looking forward to taking marketing, but he just ruined it for me. Hes boring and 70% of your grade is the quizzes. Half of the questions on the quizzes arent even found in the review or his lectures. All of them are proctored too. If you email him, he isnt much help at all. NEVER TAKE HIM
Quizzes are terrible and hard and unfortunately, they make up 70% of the grade. I have tried studying but feel like the questions are insanely hard even when studying the notes and learnsmart.
Do not take this class if you are taking 15 credits or more. I feel like he thinks that this is the only class students are taking. He LOADS us with assignments and quizzes. It's physically impossible to retain all of the information he gives us unless you spend like 4 hrs a day on it. Also don't even think about cheating bc its all proctored
Rude and unhelpful. If you ask him a question he will just quote the syllabus. I wasn't the only one confused on instructions but he showed no mercy regardless of this being 100% online and in the middle of a pandemic. He said he does not care about your other classes or jobs, there will be no extensions granted because of failure to schedule.
Mr. Murdock might just be one of the worst professors I have ever taken . I have never seen a professor who WANTS his students to fail until now. His quizzes are 70% of your grade and require you to memorize chapters of text. If you start doing well in the class, he intentionally makes the quizzes more difficult so you will struggle. STAY AWAY!!!!!
Murdock might be the most useless professor I've ever had. All the assignments are virtual and there's no daily lecture. Everytime you email him, he acts it's a total inconvenience. There is lecture videos, but they're recorded in 2017 and doesn't even recommend them. This class is slammed with work for no reason, definitely do not recommend.
While everything has transitioned to online, demonstrating that you care as a professor must take on a different appearance. It appears that Prof. Murdock either has not caught on or does not care about students. The quizzes have become quite difficult, the answers are not merely online on various study tools, but you have to really study.
I have a 4.0 and got a B in this class, if that tells you anything. His lectures are from YEARS ago, his quizzes do not reflect the assignments and lectures and are extremely hard (they're proctored). Don't ask for help because he either talks to you like you are stupid or won't respond at all. Stay away from him.
only had connect proctored quizzes and smartbooks, no tests, super easy to pass
This was a pretty easy class, that seems hard to fail if you put at least minimal effort. Each week we had one smartbook homework assignment, and one quiz that was very similar to the homework. If you pay attention to the hw then you barely need to see lecture. He gave us three extra credit opportunities.
At first I though I was going to fail because of how many things were due each week; BUT they were really easy plus I would do them before the due date so it did not stress me plus it was also a cool class. I recommend him because he actually makes this class interesting plus we got so much extra credit.
Lots of assignments and zero tests. As long as you can find the quizlets for the assignments you'll mostly be fine, but the assignments are proctored. He doesn't really care if you pass or fail and passes most problems on to his teaching assistant. Teaching assistant was no help either. He gives some extra credit that helps, but not much.
I took his class online and it was pretty easy. He gave multiple extra credit opportunities and the connect assignments are super easy. He took away tests because of covid so we only had to take chapter quizzes. The quizzes werent that hard if you did the connect assignments.
What ever you do. Do not take him in the summer. There is assignments that takes hours a piece due daily (even Saturday and Sunday.) He may be fine taking during the semester, but in the summer. Do not work or take another class, this Intro class is your new job.
DO NOT TAKE HIM IN THE SUMMER. He takes his regular semester course work and compresses it into 5 weeks without cutting ANY of it out. 46 assignments not including lectures and sup. videos. If you are ONLY taking his class in a summer session it might be manageable. I'm sure he's great in fall/spring semester but STAY AWAY IN THE SUMMER.
HORRIBLE. rude. I never had a course calendar be this disorganized and all over the place. I do not recommend him, in one of his class announcements he stated, If anyone makes less than a B in this course, its because one of two possibilities: The admissions office made an error in thinking that the student was capable of success in college
THIS IS THE WORST AND RUDEST PROFESSOR AT TXST DO NOT TAKE HIM!!!!! I hope this guy gets fired hes so rude to his students, he makes the quizzes super hard and asks about concepts that are no where to be found in the textbook, he makes his quizzes PROCTORED and have short time limit when one question is a whole paragraph.
I don't recommend taking him!! The way he schedules the test/ quizzes are ridiculous. He does not space out quizzes/tests correctly and remind you they are proctored so we have to memorize the material. I do not enjoy taking his class because he expects us to memorize all of this information in such a short amount of time
All of his lectures are from years ago, super rude, does not care for your schedule or how you are doing in his class. He literally collects a salary and lets the online delivery do the rest.
With TXSTs MKT department he is your best bet for any MKT class. If you never need to contact him & can teach yourself, you will do good in his class. Less than a B "The admissions office made an error in thinking that the student was capable of success in college or poor preparation". But he hardly gives you anything to prepare with.
Absolutely worse professor I've ever had in my college career and that's coming from someone who's about to graduate and has been in school for 6 years (I transferred). I emailed him so many times well in advance just trying to be on top of things but he never cared and just threw me under the bus. He isn't fair or consistent with his grading.
He is the worst professor that I have had at Texas State so far. He does not care about his students, gets annoyed by my emails which he would not get if he just did his job in the first place. He is completely remote and just happy to let his online class run its course. I have a 3.9 GPA so I know how to work hard, and good luck getting an A
He is a HORRIBLE professor. He doesn't communicate with his students and barely responds to emails. He makes us read boring and non-engaging chapters and makes up do proctored quizzes. I don't like his attitude and he really seems like he doesn't want to help his students unless he wants to look good for the dean. RECOMMEND ANYONE ELSE BUT HIM!!
Quizzes, Discussions, hmws, and exams. There are 3/4 things due a week. At first it may seem like a lot but truthfully it is not. As long as you complete all of the assignments and try on the exams you will pass. The quiz and exams are recorded. This class just takes a lot of time but the material is easy. Responds to email quick as well.
I would take this class in person rather than online.
You have to read a ton in the textbook to pass. He is nice but strict, he gives 1 or 2 bonus point opportunities.
Had tons of HW all on connect. Every chapter had a HW and quiz and we did like 18 chapters. Tons of content to cover as it is upper level. Super nice though. Will work with you if you are an adult and communicate. Read your syllabus he does not like when people ask him questions he has already answered. Every quiz you get 2 takes.
Laziest professor at Texas State, weekly quizzes that are ridiculously hard and ask questions about the least important parts of each chapter. Dude does literally nothing because the class is pretty much all McGraw Hill. Exams are also HUGE, dude is low key rude, does though optimize grades at the end for the highest average for each student
Everything is on McGraw Hill and the rest is graded by his teaching assistant, not him. He is not lenient, he will not respond to your emails if you need clarification on something that is in the syllabus, he will actually deduct points from you if you do this. This is a self taught course so be ready.
ONLINE: Some professors are just here for the paycheck, and some are here for the students to learn. I'm not even sure he's excited about the paycheck. Condescending & terse. Was (somehow) rude in the syllabus, and then essentially called me an idiot via email for asking a question that wasn't covered. As uninvolved as possible. Avoid at all costs.
This man does not care at all about his student. Don't bother asking him for help on anything because if you do and you're not doing extremely well he will be extremely harsh on what he has to say to you. Find yourself a different teacher who actually cares about you. Do not take him!!!
If you're a lazy student, look for a different prof. Murdock is a nice guy if you can act like an adult and do your work - there is a lot to do that requires a lot of reading/planning your time around his class. He does give extra credit towards the end of the semester. His video lectures and PDF notes help a lot. Tests and quizzes are proctored.
Honestly, his class isn't "hard" unless you're lazy and want a good grade to float in your hand. You have to actually read the textbook/study for the exams if you want a decent grade. I advise not to really email him if you have questions because he most likely will not reply. He does give out extra credit towards the end of the semester. Good luck
He gives clear instructions in his syllabus on how to succeed in the class and that time management is huge when it comes to the assignments, because there are a lot. Each quiz is two attempts. He gives some extra credit opportunities. If you read each chapter and study, you will do good!
You get 2 attempts on the quizzes, most of the answers are from his PDF's and lecture videos that you must go over if you want to pass. He does give extra credit throughout the semester that are from the marketing department. His class isn't hard, you just have to be on top of everything because assignments are weekly. This isn't an easy course.
RUN: Work overload! This course is just basically learning from the textbook on your own. You literally will have to read and memorize the chapters if you want to pass the test and quizzes. If he gives out extra credit, DO IT! Whatever points will help you!
It is VERY easy to fall behind since he goes through EVERY chapter in the textbook and has assignments due weekly, on top of the homework due every 3 days. This is my second time taking the course and I'm still struggling to get through it. He doesn't really post any study guides for tests and his lectures are really boring.
DO NOT take Ken! He is rude and unprofessional, he doesn't help you if you email him. Took his summer MKT class it was time consuming and overwhelming. He expects you to know every little detail from his lectures and notes. Quizzes & exams are proctored, be prepared to finish them in little time. Take another prof don't even think about taking him.
This professor blatantly does not care about you, or your odds of success in the class, one of the first assignments posted is basically how well you read the syllabus and some of the questions in there aren't even in the syllabus. If you're hit by a car he said don't contact him, contact the dean, he does not care about his you one bit.
This is the worst professor I have ever had. He does not care about his students in the slightest and lacks basic communication skills. Don't even bother emailing him because you won't get a response and you also run the risk of getting points taken off your final grade. His quizzes contain material found nowhere in the textbook or lectures.
This class is a joke. I did not find any useful tips or information on marketing. I was force fed useless jargon and tested on pointless vocabulary. I learned nothing about marketing.
Terrible, try to avoid if possible!
AWFUL. avoid this class. too much work over subjects that teach you nothing about marketing. He is not even a teacher, all the lectures are pre-recorded from 2018! Thats right, nothing to change this class since COVID! He specifically states NOT TO EMAIL HIM over subjects his TA could help you with or he will LOWER YOUR GRADE. He does not care
This class is worthless, if you take Ken Murdock you are wasting your money! You will see this professor once the first day and never hear from him again while he sits pretty collecting University paychecks while doing 0 work and teaching nothing. Proctored everything and worthless busy work twice a week. This class unnecessarily tanks your GPA
The professor started off the semester by going through a list of his student's complaints and basically said he wasn't going to do anything about it. Great start. The course is not about learning the material, its about cramming as many terms as possible in your brain for the quizzes and tests. This course is fundamentally dysfunctional.
He may be a genius for this, but Murdock has found a way to host a class and do no work at all. Everything is graded automatically, lectures are from 2017, and the TA does all administrative work. The only explanation for how he is able to get away with this must be tenure. If you value education for more than obtaining credits, take anyone else.
Not sure about all the negative reviews. Yes there's a lot of busy work stuff and he doesn't really do anything, but it isn't a hard course. Honestly if you failed, you really didn't do anything. The work was dreadful but very manageable. You get 2 attempts on quizzes, and the McGraw Hill work is fast paced. The one thing I didn't like was PackBack
This class requires a lot of reading and has many assignments per topic. The amount of time between topic due dates seemed random. You'd be required to read a chapter, complete 3 assignments, and take a quiz, and then 2 days later the same amount of work was due. With assignments being locked, there's no way to actually stay ahead in this class.
This class had lots of homework, reading, and quizzes due during the week, and it could have been more helpful if the professor had uploaded video lectures that covered everything in the chapter and NOT just the main topics for that week.
The class itself isn't all that hard, however there was a bunch of busy work. Like the tests covered 4-6 chapters at a time and were 80 questions. He didn't do anything for students except send passive aggressive emails about how we should be embarrassed of our discussion posts. Take another professor, this one is not good.
This professor is very rude and passive aggressive and lacks any kind of sympathy. He's very egotistical for hosting a class where he does basically nothing. The lectures are old pre-recorded videos and McGrawHill grades your work. The course content itself is not very difficult, but the professor is unpleasant. You're better off with anyone else.
This class would not be nowhere near as bad if he cut out a few needless chapter that really are just a reiteration of another or are totally covered in another course. Packback teaches you nothing at all, you have a few days to take care of an entire chapter, which you will do every chapter in the book. Too fast paced to really learn anything.
This professor demonstrates zero time management skills. He does practically no work for the class, but demands that we complete each chapter's work in the textbook, and half of that material is on the test. If this professor cared about the amount of time his class wastes, he'd limit the monumental amount of homework to the necessary stuff.
DON'T TAKE THIS PROFESSOR! He makes it very clear at the beginning of class to not email him with problems, and that he won't have sympathy. His syllabus was never updated, due dates were confusing and he doesn't care. He uploads material and then has nothing to do with the students. I have a 4.0 and have never had this bad of an experience.
The overall course wasn't bad- the online textbook through McGraw Hill was actually pretty interesting. I hardly interacted with the professor, which seems like his goal based on his passive-aggressive syllabus and "need to know" document. The TA was in charge of Packback and was very nice. Hated using Proctorio for every! single! chapter! quiz!
Do not take this professor if you can avoid it. He is so incredibly rude and the assignments are tedious, there is at least three assignments a week which includes a proctored test. Professor Murdock will be mad if you email him, he literally says to not contact him. This had been the worst class and professor I have taken in my four years.
My boyfriend had a extreme medical emergency and I asked Kenneth Murdock can I recieve a incomplete for the course and he said "I am not going to be put in the position of needing to act only after the circumstances have done their damage at the end of the semester. The consequences of your decisions are yours to deal with and not mine to solve."
Insane amount of work and reading every week, the information from the chapter quizzes, smartbook assignments and click and drag is different from each assignment and. focuses on useless vocabulary rather than explaining general concepts of marketing, which is what an INTRO to marketing should be. Overall DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS.
Honestly this class was easy only thing is you have to stay on top of the assignments. He records every quiz and test so if you are not okay with that do not take him. He HATES emails so only email the TA.
The class itself was pretty easy, pretty much all through McGraw Hill except for the weekly discussions. Basically the whole class was busy work, an easy A if you stay caught up. The professor is lazy, McGraw Hill generates and grades all of the assignments. Professor will take points off grade for emailing him with "redundant" questions.
The material is not hard but when you have 80-85 question tests its hard to remember everything. Every week you have Mcgraw hill due but its due on random days so it can be very tough to remember. The quizzes are long too. Up to 40 questions. Just all around a pain for a class that did not have to be difficult.
assignments due every 3-5 days. 4 tests and a final but he drops your lowest grade out of all 5. i wasn't a fan of this way of online learning but its not too bad. i wouldn't want to take him again just because of how strict he is. he has a chapter summary and video for each chapter but they aren't that helpful. just read the textbook.
LAZY. Did not care about his students, everything went through the TA or McGraw hill. He states to not contact him in the syllabus and if you do he will ignore your email. Easy A if you take him online, just get ready for a lot of homework, Weekly discussion boards, I would take again just for an easy A. THAT'S IT. NO MORE. NO LESS.
easy if u can set up a virtual machine lol
This class requires an excessive amount of work and reading every week. The chapter quizzes, Smartbook assignments, and click-and-drag activities due every week. Do not email him, he will not answer you!
If you're a business minor I would avoid this class and take one of the other subjects. He is the only professor that teaches this course. Every quiz and exam is proctored, so you will have to download Proctorio. Quizzes range from 30-50+ questions depending on the chapter and exams are about 80 questions. As many as two chapters due per week.
I already read the awful reviews but this was the only class that fit in my schedule. I would rather have graduated late than take this class. Multiple people tried to report him to no avail. This guy couldn't care less about this course and its quite obvious since his material lacks continuity and clarity. and he docks points for contacting him:))
This class requires a lot of weekly work, but with Unstuck ai, quizzes and assignments became much more manageable. The professor isn't very accessible, but staying on top of the material leads to a decent grade.
Every assignment is proctored. 6+ assignments per week. Quizzes are timed and take 40+ minutes to complete. If you reach out to him directly for anything instead of his TA, he takes points off of your overall grade. Material on tests has nothing to do with the textbook. Overall, he's a terrible professor. Just don't do it!
Insane amounts of work. I'm good with time management and dont procrastinate whatsoever. He gives insane amounts of reading and quizzes and tests are insane and unnecessarily hard. As the class goes on you'll start having to do double the work every week. Everything proctored and this class will take up a good chunk of your time.
This class has immense amounts of works. Everything is proctored and every assignment is on McGraw besides packbacks. It starts off as one chapter per week then later on in the course its double the work every week. I don't procrastinate assignments whatsoever and still struggled keeping up. Test and quizzes take forever and are unnecessarily hard.
TERRIBLE OMG. SO many assignments every single week, exams were 80-84 questions long FRYING YOUR BRAIN. So many quizzes with proctorio lock down, and the exams were proctored as well. I think of myself as a good student but DANG was this class hard to keep up with please dont take him if possible.
There is so much work in this course. He will take points off your overall grade if you email him! The exams and quizzes are protected online. There were about 2 smartbooks, 2 drag and drop assignments, 2 quizzes, and a packback due every single week. He does offer extra credit at the end of the semester, but I would avoid taking him if I could.
Professor Murdock was ok. I agree with all the reviews—there's at least 10 assignments a week, but honestly, it's not too taxing because it's all McGraw-Hill stuff. He's a bit rude and kinda difficult to work with sometimes, but I still passed, so meh. Also, Proctorio was used for every test, which was horrible having to show a 360 view of my desk.
As soon as the semester started, the professor informed us that the material would come at a fast pace and that because there were so many students, we shouldn't bother emailing him. If we emailed him asking questions about something he had previously discussed, he would take points off of our exam grade. Very unaccommodating and do not recommend.
7 assignments due a week that are very time-consuming if you plan on retaining any information while completing them. Chapter quizzes 35 questions long and impossible to prepare for. Tests: 80 questions. The professor is incapable of managing the link between Canvas, McGraw, & PB. No consistency in the info needed to complete each assignment.
He's okay. LOTS of assignments and felt the quizzes and test were a little too hard. Very meh experience and didn't retain much.
Would not recommend. Takes off points if you try to contact him. The TA takes care of almost everything. Test reviews are not helpful, they have nothing to do with the tests. Also, tests are very long. There are more than 3 assignments including quizzes weekly.
Honestly, it was not that bad. Yes, it was A LOT of workload; it kept me extremely busy. However, the content was not too difficult and he does take steps to warn you about the extra heavy workload. For tests and quizzes make sure you read the terms in the book. There is also a lot of extra credit to boost your grade if needed.
Please choose another professor. This class is a LOT of work. I paid $ to take a class that I was not allowed to contact the professor in and got points taken off because I email him. I honestly don't understand how these policies are allowed at TXST. DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. I honestly don't understand how he has a job still.
He was not a good professor whatsoever, said you could not email him or he'd take points off & everything is proctored. The class itself is A LOT of work. You have to read 1-2 chapters a week & do 3-4 assignments for each chapter. The material isn't the worst however, but the questions on quizzes are very specific. I would not recommend this class.
I completed over 80 assignments for his class alone last semester. Emailed for help and he told me I wasn't putting enough effort into the course so I figured it out on my own. Emailed at the end of semester because grading was wrong and I had to fight to have our extra credit applied to our grades because he claimed it already was. Rude professor.
Get ready to do proctored tests/quizzes every single week. Sometimes you have to cram 2-3 chapters of knowledge in within a few days and that was for spring semester. The work takes away the joy of learning the material, even for a fundamentals class, it was way too much. The study guides of 80+ questions were a huge waste of time. Expect A LOT!
took this for summer. would not recommend it. there was homework everyday.
highest amount of homework I have ever had for a single class. Do not take unless you are ready to spend 90% of your semester taking quizzes and doing homework for this class.
I have spent the past 10 years of my life in upper education, hands down one of the worst professors. This guy is the literal stereotypical gatekeeper of education& is collecting a check at our own expense, do society a favor and let his seats go empty. I feel cheated out of my money & education, this guy needs a negative star button.
he is not a good professor by any means. you need to get in a rhythm of doing multiple assignments a week. his TA does everything. there is no communication through him so im not sure why he even teaches it. the class is not bad, its proctored but not bad at all. you may as well take it if ur not a marketing major. if not take someone else.
The tests and a few assignments, are proctored, but the site works half the time. When contacting the professor he wouldn't solely get back to you, he'd send an ENTIRE class message saying to figure it out on our own & that he had too many students that somehow conflicted with those of us who had issues & needed help with a site that was required?
Would recommend for non-mgt majors, but DEF not for mgt majors. Just for the credit, would def take class again. Being an online course, there was a good amount of hw: 4 weekly assignments, with one being a writing assignment. Tests, quizzes, and C&D assignments heavily proctored (Proctorio). Material pretty intuitive and easy. Prof NOT reachable.
Not a hard class at all. But there is a lot of homework. And the quizzes are proctored. Also doesn't like to be contacted if there is issues. Would take again but make sure to not fall behind. Also has extra credit if needed.
I am so disappointed I was looking forward to taking this class because I thought it was going to be fun. I bet you can guess I was wrong. About 4 homework assignments a week 3 of them proctored. Around 80-100 exam questions on each exam. Such a wast of time. Not a single assignment I did was enjoyable or helpful.
Not a hard class. 3 assignments (click and drag, smart book, quiz) due every 3-4 days and some of them are proctored but have multiple attempts. If you have good time management skills, I'd recommend taking this class but if you don't, you'll absolutely struggle. Final exam is optional and replaces a missed or lowest exam grade.
