very good professor.you will pass his class as long as you read the textbook and review the notes cause the test questions come straight from the review sheet he gives.he even gives you the essay qstions ahead of time so you can study
Very good guy but very hard at grading. Even if u know alot about the class already it is really hard to get a good grade with this guy.
He was a very helpful teacher. The textbook isn't needed for the class however it can be used to catch up on what you missed. He is in general one of the best teachers I have had so far and would retake him again. He gave out in depth study sheets a week in advance two for the final and midterms.
helpful professor but you have to read the nook and the notes in order to pass his tests.his review sheets are very helpful
He is a great professor, has slides but not with much notes so copy everything he says very important. His class is tough like the essay part of the test he wants everything very detailed but his review sheets helps. Didn't really go in depth with the textbook myself but he does want you to know the textbook info as well. Great guy and funny!!
I had Professor Pearl for HI-113 in the spring of 2012. He was the best history professor EVER!!! His review sheets are very helpful and they clarify EXACTLY what will be on the test! Highly recommend for anyone, even if history is their least favorite subject
Has a sense of humor, gives review sheets, tries to accomodate students in exams by giving essay and multiple choice portions. However he speaks quickly so be good about taking notes.
I do wish that Pearl put powerpoint of his slides up since he does talk rather fast and it can be hard to write good notes. However he is a pretty decent teacher. I love the fact that he give the essay question in advance. The study is pretty good as well.
Absolutely nice! Test for every four chapters consists of an essay and then mix & match. He grades a little off on the essay so write drafts and do confront him about your grade to learn what you were missing. Overall hes an excellent teacher & loves talking!
This is what a reall college class is at qcc. He is a great professor and learned a lot from the class. He does talk alot and very fast so be prepared to take notes quick. His test are straight forward, his grading is very difficult but over he's a great professor and would highly recommend him.
I will admit that if Pearl would have given easier access to the course materials such as the powerpoints and talked a little slower, I think it would be easier to pass his class. However I do agree that his exams are rather straightforward but tough.
Awesome prof. 2 tests, drops the lower grade of the two...but if u get above a 90 on both...he adds 8 points extra credit to ur final exam. Also a final exam..no hw, i would recommend reading the text but I barely did...all I did was review his notes and passed his class with an A :) also gives review sheets for all exams...and essay question too...overall, pretty easy class...just take good notes! :)
I will admit that taking notes in this class was not easy since the information was pretty much on powerpoint and he doesn't send them out. However on the positive, he is rather humorous and gives the essay question in advance which makes it easier to know what to expect. He does like a lot of detail in the writing.
Dr. Pearl is an excellent professor. He explains everything clearly and interacts very well with his students. Just come to class, listen to his lectures, and you'll do fine on the tests. I recommend him 100%!
One of the things that I loved about Pearl was how he seemed to charm the class with his comedic like jokes. However he does class the class rather well and is sure passionate about history. it can be a little overwhelming at times. However you do learn a lot.
It seems as though Pearl had the magic touch when teaching since he engages rather well with the students and the atmosphere is rather comfortable. The study guide for the essay questions is pretty much what will be on the exam which is rather helpful.
Really good professor! Has a passion for teaching. He opened my eyes up to history which I never really had an interest in prior to the class. I would highly recommend taking Dr. Pearl
great teacher, very enthusiastic about his teachings. keeps you til literally the LAST minute of class...
This teacher opened my eyes to history! I absolutely loved class. he brightens my day with his smile
One of the best professors I've had at Queensborough! He's extremely energetic, knowledgeable, funny and helpful. Above all he's passionate about what he teaches and there's a lot of classroom interaction. Time flies in his class, he makes everything so interesting! He helps with writing too! You will learn so much and have fun at the same time!
Great professor in general.
I will admit that having Pearl was a great experience since he was a really nice guy that was upbeat and energetic. His study good is rather helpful towards passing.
What I loved about Pearl was how he kept the class at ease with his humor and all around nice guy. the key to passing the exams is writing a lot of details in the essays. Overall a really interesting professor.
I never liked history, but Pearl wasn't so bad...I mean, he did crack a few jokes. Sometimes talked too much, though. I would lose track of what's important for the exam & what's not, which was really annoying. Tests were vocabulary matching & 1essay. Hard to get an A on the essays. Got a B avg with a lot of effort. Recording his class helped tons.
Do not take him, he will fail you for sure. He does not go easy on the exams, he takes off a lot of points in a minor mistake. Dont take him. Thats the only way to pass
this professor made me enjoy history! very clear but goes by things pretty quick. do the review sheets and make an OUTLINE for every exam. the key to passing is explaining as much as possible on the essays! if you fail, it's your own fault! easy A if your good at knowing terms and writing essays!
Very straight forward with his Lectures and Exams.
I remember that the key to passing Pearl's class is writing a lot of details in the essays. The more you write the better you will do depending on the question asked. The best part is that the essay question is given in advance that way you know exactly what to expect.
This is not an easy class if you do not like a lot of reading, however he makes history extremely interesting! You will work hard for your grade but it is worth it! bc u will enjoy what he teaches! His exams are not so hard if you spend your time studying! And you will earn the grade or better you want at the end :) Thank you Dr. Pearl !!
I will admit that I took Pearl in my last semester of QCC back in Fall 2009 and I will admit that he was a really cool guy. He made history rather exciting and something worth learning about. It was quite an eye opener.
Dr. Pearl is the greatest! The most wonderful person ever! He is such a great teacher, and he's so nice. He's unintentionally funny and his laugh is contagious. You learn a lot and class is never boring.
Makes topics easily understandable and has a great sense of humor.
you study hard, you get a good grade, he is by far the best historian at QCC, i got A in the class. But it also safe to mention that i had previous knowledge about the course
Great professor!! He's very helpful, his tests aren't too hard and oh yeah he's hilarious!!
Very approachable and enjoyable.
He is a good professor, and he really knows what he is talking about.
One of the funniest teachers I have ever had. Very nice guy, very helpful, and his class was pretty easy. Do little work and get an easy B. Do average amount of work, easy A.
incredible teacher class was fun and interesting a must take professor for history majors
I will admit that this was one of the best history classes that I ever take since it was such a joy to learn about history from a different perspective.
Great professor. Speaks clearly and everything is outlined in the syllabus.
very cool guy
He is a good prof. Tries to be funny and sometimes succeeds. Take him easy class can sleep through and pass.
This was a harder class than I thought it would be and its nearly impossible to get full credit on his essays, but he is very helpful during office hours and his review sheets are very clear. Not an easy class but good professor
Great professor with great knowledge. Definitely want to take another class with him.
GREAT PROFESSOR! He taught me so much
This guy is the greatest, I want to be like Dr. Pearl when I grow up.
The class was easy. There are no surprises. His lectures correspond directly to the exams and his review sheets are very helpful
Knowledgeable and knows his stuff
Great professor, easy class. Participation is rewarded so make sure to be really involved.
Dr. Pearl is an excellent teacher. He's very good at explaining the material and gives great reviews for the exams. Just attend class, listen to his lectures, and you'll pass. I recommend him a million times over!
He is an amazing teacher. His classes are so much fun
nicest man ever, will help with anything you need help in
This professor was the best I ever had, he was the most helpful and dedicated professor I met and he makes it really easy for everyone to get an A....Highly recommend this class you will not be disappointed
This was a really great class since it was very thought provoking and engaging.
really cool teacher all you have to do is read the textbook and you should do fine. easy teacher AND GREAT PERSONALITY!
Awesome, Funny, Ridiculously Brilliant
Probably one of the best teachers I have ever had! I definitely recommend Dr. Pearl
Good at what he teaches. Structured lectures. Very helpful. Knowledgeable about the material and is well informed. Enjoyed his class. Learned a lot!
Sweet guy and good professor. He knows his stuff and is very helpful.
Great and easy professor. Just try to pay attention since he lectures the entire class time, though he makes it sound like a story in order to not make history boring. Tests are matching and an essay where you get to choose one out of the three. He even provides an excellent review sheet in advance.
Awesome and very passionate. Dr. Pearl is a great guy. As long as you do the readings from the textbook and study the review sheet, you have nothing to worry about
He's one of the best professors I've ever had. You'll learn so much about European history and if you study the review sheets, you'll get a good grade. The very best, you should rush to take his class!
He is a really good teacher and he knows what he is talking about. I like him and I hope he never stops teaching.
he has a good heart, but he was not meant to teach. there are no notes what's so ever and his tests are mix and match 40% and essay 60%. its impossible to get higher than a b on the test.
his class is terrible.almost 1/2 the class was gone after his fist test.avoid this class at all costs.he gives no notes.he cant teach worth a damn.AVOID THIS CLASS IF U CARE FOR YOUR GPA!HE GRADES YOUR ESSAYS LIKE THEY'RE GONNA GET PUBLISHED OR SOMETHING.AVOID HIM AT ALL COSTS.he'll give u 50+ words to study but will only give u 20 on the test.
Dr. Pearl is incredible. He explains everything so thoroughly. Attendance is a must (not really but..) because he doesn't upload his lectures online and textbook reading is boring. So if you attend and pay attention in his lectures, studying for the exams wouldn't be difficult because you'll have the answers in your notes. DEFINITELY TAKE HIM!!!!!
He's a great teacher, knows what he's talking about but he grades TOO hard. He asks for a lot on the exams. If you love history, go for it. If you hate history, don't take him. DON'T RISK YOUR GPA!
This class was really interesting to take. Dr. Pearl defiantly knows a lot but I feel like he grades to harshly on the essays. He drops the lowest grade. Textbook is not even necessary because he makes review sheets for you. So just study the words and you should do fine.
First: He does not take attendance. Second: He tries to be funny be he is not. Third: H is a hard grader. Fourth: No homework's Fifth: He's not very helpful. Sixth: No quizzes Seventh: Do not take him he does a poor job. GoodLuck!
Three exams including the final, he drops the lowest one from the first two. he doesnt take attendance, no quizzes, by the first month half of the class was gone. There is not point going to his class since you can search all the vocabulary oninternet and you can even cheat on the essay part .he gives you the topics in advance.i didnt open the book
One word: BRILLIANT!
Incredibly nice and helpful. My absolute favorite professor. Just don't expect the class to be all that easy.
Wonderful professor he is one of the best at the test omg the man is god
His lectures are amazing. He makes history to sound real to you.
His lectures are amazing. He makes history sound real to you.
Great teacher. Had no problem with him at all
This guy is the greatest, I want to be like Pearl when I grow up!
An easy professor. You will love history
Took him for winter session. The class was 5 hrs. for 2 weeks so it was a little overwhelming but Dr. Pearl made class time fly by!! He even gave us two 20 minute breaks which rarely professors do. Dr. Pearl is soo brilliant and he really makes history so interesting. Take him, you won't regret it! :)
One professor who really knows what he's doing. Listening to him will make you love history all over.
Amazing professor hands down. Cares about his students. Will do anything for you so you can get the grade you need. Makes the class fun and educational at the same time. All I can say is if you ever see his name for a class take him and you will not regret it. Best professor at QCC.
Great teacher. Happy to be in his class
Very nice teacher, go to class and you will get a good grade.
Loved his lectures because made history very interesting. His exams are not hard nor easy, but definitely have to study. The movies he showed were very good! If you need a history class, you want to get a seat in his class, because if you try you'll succeed in his class. Thank you Dr. Pearl
Extremely helpful professor. Very professional
Prof Pearl is a very good professor There really is no way of failing the class its all about your mindset 3 exams he drops the lowest excluding the final A lot of people complain that he's hard but if you show up and ask question and take notes and read the textbook You'll be fine Attendance is mandatory if you want to pass If you want learn
I enjoyed his class a lot. Don't be late, take good notes and you'll do fine.
Clever professor, excellent lecturer. Don't miss his class
The greatest professor Queensborough has to offer. He will truly make you love history
You won't find an easier class in Queensborough. Take this class!
You do not even need to look at the other comments. Take this class if you can. Best teacher in Queensborough. I would take him again if I had the choice.
Do not take him, he will fail you for sure. He does not go easy on the exams, he takes off a lot of points in a minor mistake. Don't take him. That's the only way to pass
Fantastic Teacher.
He is really the best professor that QCC's history department has to offer. I took him this winter and though the class as 5 hours long, he made the time fly. He is very knowledgeable and makes sure that everyone understands everything. His tests are not difficult at all. Just pay attention in class and study and you will have no trouble passing.
Great guy. His exams can be hard IF you don't study, just like any other class. But if you do, you should be fine. Gives you 20 terms and essays on the exam. Material was a bit dry at times but overall he tries to make it as interesting as possible.
Very powerful Lecture from him. You need to read the textbook by yourself. Textbook is not necessary if you hard to study the key word and prepare the essay. Exam is basic on 20 Mix and match, film questions, essays. Great professor and history course you need to remember the stuffs no express way. Also you can choose you essays topic.
Great professor. Glad to be in his class
Very Helpful professor, kind of easy grader. You got review sheet before exam.
Don't take him for history 178.. He's a really nice guy, but the lectures are really boring and long.. I would recommend taking him for another class.. NOT history 178, because i had to study my ass off for that B-
Good Professor I took him for 112 got an A now I took him for 178 an got an A in his class. His very kind professor, speak very clearly, his lectures weren't boring bc he made them interesting , its IMPORTA NT to take notes , gives review sheet with key terms and topics for you to pick and write your essay about in the test
Had the pleasure of having this prof last semester. He keeps the class intresting and is Always willing to answer any questions, he knows his stuff and gives clear information, the test are a little difficult but it well worth it.
Had the pleasure of having this prof last semester. He keeps the class intresting and is Always willing to answer any questions, he knows his stuff and gives clear information, the test are a little difficult but it well worth it. Gives review sheets for every test weeks pin advance, take advantage of that!
Every time I write a review on this professor somehow it never gets posted or mysteriously disappears. Taking his class significantly dropped my GPA. Not everyone loves History and the majority of us have other classes. It's an intense workload, even with a review sheet. 50 key terms (just the word) and only 20 are on the test!
I have no idea how this guy can manage to keep me awake in a HISTORY class at 7 in the morning.. The class is in a lecture hall, so he doesn't take attendance, NEVER. There are 2 exams and a final. But technically one 1 exam counts because he drops the one with the lowest grade. Exams consists of voc words and an essay. Easy A
everything I put here was the truth. I'm telling you he is a tough grader and you have to read a lot. he's a good teacher but the tests are hard, trust me.
Dr. Pearl has all the qualities of a great teacher, he's very intelligent knows his stuff, very polite he is a good speaker and did I mention he's funny. he gives you a review sheet that's basically the exam You choose the essay you wanna do and he gives you 20 key terms that's all. It's a history class so you have to read .
Tough Grader. Nice guy though.
He is very knowledgeable and made the class interesting, however he is a tough grader and his tests are rather hard
Best Professor. Down to earth, funny, and also knows what he's talking about. Highly recommend taking his classes.
He is a good teacher, knows his stuff, and made a 3 hour class go by very quickly. My only complaint is that he is a rather tough grader and the tests are somewhat difficult and require a lot of studying.
By far the worst history class I have ever taken! He only helps the kids that understand every aspect of history. We had 2 test and a final. He drops the lowest grade on the test but counts the final. However, if you get both 90 on the test you get 8 point towards your final. This COURSE WILL DROP YOUR GPA IF YOU STRUGGLE IN HIS. NO EXTRA CREDIT.
HIS TEST ARE SO HARD !!!! DONT TAKE THE CLASS !! I AM 100% SURE YOU WILL FAIL OR HE WILL MAKE YOUR GPA DROP A LOT !!!
He gives you a review sheet with about 44-50 key terms that you will mix and match on his test. the topics for the "essays" aren't listed so you're supposed to study and get ready for a question he will come up with, and you are expected to know the information. overall his lectures aren't boring, he is a good teacher.
If you do your assignments each week you will be fine. Only one assignment per week, and he drops the lowest grade, and allows you to redo one assignment for a better grade. Super cool teacher. Would definitely take his class again; esp. if you like history.
He is a decent professor and he made the class interesting however he is a rather tough grader so be sure to STUDY A LOT for his exams. He gives out a study guide for the tests.
I had no problem doing decent in this course, The 3 hour class is rough however, I sat in the front and constantly engaged with the professor, His review sheets are really helpful! He drops the lowest grades from the first two exams, The final exam score does not get dropped! Good with extra credit! over the semester you can earn 23 points worth!
pros: he starts class on, gives a review sheet, and is willing to help students if they ask. cons: ppts notes are not very helpful or clear, and only one way to get a good grade and that's by passing all the test.
He's a really funny guy however he does grade tough, he's very big on grammar and will deduct points for it which can affect your grade, must read your textbook because the lectures aren't enough. If you read and write properly you should do fine. Only con is the tough grading.
He is a TOUGH GRADER. He will take points off if you have spelling errors and paragraphs are not long enough. He is helpful, but for some reason this was bit tough for me. Final you will have to choose 4 questions to answer out of 20 he gives you.
He does give you a review sheet, but he also don't give A if you write only base on the class note which you learn from the class. If you don't have a lot of knowledge on history, it will be so hard for you to get A or even a passing grade.
Professor Pearl is brilliant, the knowledge he has in History is shocking. Get ready to write as the tests are all essays.
TAKE HIM! Not only is he super nice and hilarious but he is an amazing professor. He knows his stuff, idk why everyone is saying he takes points of for grammar and spelling obviously if you make no sense he will take off points other than that his class was a breeze wish I could take him againHis class might seem hard at first but trustme it's not
He is a very good professor, he doesnt take attendance but you do need to be there because he is very heavy on taking notes from his lectures, which help you to study during the tests. You definitely need the book and you need to actually read in order to pass his tests, he is beyond fair cuz he gives you the review sheet for the exam a month ahead
After failing my first H112 class, taking professor pearl was the best choice I made. He's a really cool guy, very friendly. Gives great lectures didn't even feel like 3 hours. Time just flies by with him. Funny makes good jokes. I took him in the winter so all we did was watch movies & write about them for 2 weeks . Final was easy all MC. Take him
nice guy but very tough on grading
He is not a great professor. His grading is completely based on the exams. There are 2 exams and 1 final he also drops the lowest grade. In order to pass his class you should know history already. He gives you a review sheet consists of many terms that you have to take notes on in class and in exam explain the term and its importance.
He is a nice guy but if you don't know anything about history then don't take him because then you will be confused . He doesn't take attendance so its on you to come or not, but if you don't come then you will Fail.
I barely, passed the course. Nice guy, but don't let that fool you. You have to write at least 6 essays on each exam. The final had 7 essays to be written.
In my opinion he made this course one of the most interesting but boring courses. His charisma and personality makes the class fun and as an added bonus his review sheet is easy to follow.
Dont take him if you dont know anything in history. The bad professor I ever had in QCC. He will drop you GPA.
Professor Kenneth is by far one of my favorite professors. His exams consist of approximately 20 m.c and 6 short essay responses, but honestly if you take good notes and study you should be able to pass his class. He has a great personality too, really funny guy. Attendance is not mandatory either, it's a fun class.
He has a great sense of humor. But he is a tough grader.
It was my best decision to take Dr. Pearl for this history course. Im not a big fan of history and when it comes to reading from primary sources I get lazy!!!! He was actually pretty straight forward in his lectures, just take good notes basically try to jot down what he mentions in class and this will pop up on the exam...!
VERY difficult professor. All his notes are verbal and he doesn't allow recordings. He tests were difficult, but he gave the review sheet over a month in month in advance. Study A LOT, show up every day, and attend his office hours, and you'll pass.
I came to rate my professor and decided to take his class. I regret his class so much. He gives no PowerPoint, does not let you record. Makes you memorize about 60 words for each exam. Your only grade depend on two exams and one final. You must study a lot and he deducts points if you don't write everything that he says in lecture he is very picky
I'll start by saying he does give verbal notes so you have to listen and write down as much as possible. Graded by two tests and the final drops the lowest of the two tests. If you listen and take good notes the class will be easy for you. If you're not a good note taker then I wouldn't recommend him. If you do however take him you'll learn alot.
Horrible professor. I took him because of the reviews on here. The way he grades the tests are not clear at all. His class seems easy at first but it isn't. One of the worst professors at QCC.
READ REVIEWS FIRST TO THOSE WHO ARE CHECKING HIS GRADE. DO NOT RELY ON THE 4.0. As others said, he is. Lecture. Heavy. If you have good attention span and ability to note as he goes, then you may have hope. But, if you have trouble having complete undivided attention and taking notes, then Do Not Take Him.
Dr. Pearl is the best professor I had in QCC. I had him at 7:40 in the morning and he really keeps you awake, not a boring class at all. He is lecture heavy but I promise his lectures are so detailed and actually interesting... You can tell he has a passion for history. His class is just him talking, so get ready to write!
Pro Pearl lectures heavy so get ready to take notes. He made me interested in history when ive hated it since day one. Gives 2 test and a final. Even though he lectures heavy they arent boring at all. Do your reading and take really good notes and you will pass with at least a B. Powerpoints in class but only does grades on Blackboard nothing else
OMG! He is super tough grader professor, if you study very very hard, the highest grade that you can get is C! Taking class with him was my biggest mistak in my life.
I didnt like the way he lectured and he didnt take attendance so i only showed up for the test days and read the chapters in the textbook. only graded on 2 tests.
Honestly all history professors in qcc suck but hes good. Not effortless but its easy. Especially in the winter. Attendance isnt required, easy class.
Hes amazing, very understandable and teaches you a lot!
GREAT professor, he knows what he's talking. Write a lot of notes, and you should be able to pass. I HATE history but it was a great class. Drops one lowest grade test, and gives review sheets two week prior to the test.
I enjoyed this class, he made it interesting for me!
If you are bad in history, prepare to stress out. The class is lecture heavy but he makes it interesting. He only gives 2 exams and a final. He will drop the lowest grade of the two (doesnt drop final). You MUST read the textbook which is VEEERY time consuming. I wouldn't recommend his class but he is a chill guy.
Very Lecture heavy and its better to understand his lectures by looking at the textbook, you don't have to buy the book but it is very recommended to read it after and/or before his class to understand whats going on.
Dr. Pearl is really great. His classes are very interesting, and he is very clear about what will be on exams. There are 2 exams and a non cumulative final. He sends out a review sheet with the terms/events you need to know, and 4 essay questions, you choose one. If you do not show up to class, or read the textbook you wont pass.
If you are bad in history- this class WILL be challenging. You have to read the textbook and show up for the lectures even though its not mandatory. Only gives 2 exams and a final. He will drop the lowest grade from the 2 exams. He is a cool person but I just hate how he grades off of students. Also, very lecture heavy and you have to write fast
He is fantastic, best professor at QCC!
Be ready to read the textbook. If you study the key terms you will be fine.
Dr. Pearl is a great professor. He makes class very interesting, and tells jokes. Though attendance is not mandatory, you really should be in class because a lot of material is covered. Textbook is needed for studying. The tests consist of one essay question and 25 multiple choice. He is always available if students need help or have questions.
I took Dr. Kenneth Pearl because he had the best reviews out of everyone for HIS112 and I dont regret taking him at all. He's so nice and so passionate about history. Tests are about 20 multiple choice worth 50 points and then an essay worth 50 points, studying terms are extremely important but also you have to know how everything connects
I really enjoyed History 222. Dr. Pearl is awesome. Really wanted everyone to do well and always encouraged students to ask questions. Two tests and then the final. Non-Cumulative. If you receive 90's on both tests, you receive an extra 10 points on the final exam. I will miss this class! Textbook should be read patiently, it will really help you.
he did teach will but exact us to read everything from the book before going to class. only 2 exams and final, tests are very hard and no extra credits. if you like history then take, you will learn a lot but if you are taking for electives then do not take him.
I took him for my winter semester and he only assigned us two written assignments, one mid term, and one final. I want to note that I have never been good at history but he was so clear and concise with his lectures that I understood everything. It's a lot of terms to remember though in 3 weeks, for mid term was 65 terms and finals 46 to remember.
Worst decision I made to take this prof. Afew persons I know took him and complained about him but I really needed this class and the time matched my schedule. Has our first exam and the entire class did so poorly. Hes a extremely hard grader and expect so much details on his essay which is unreasonable because of the time we have for the exam
Worst prof ever!! Dont take him! Doesnt care about his students and their grades. I think he enjoys failing student his class did terribly and has nothing to say about it. Just that you can do better on the next exam. Safe yourself time and your gpa and find someone else
He's a good prof. Didn't expect my spring 20 classes to be online due to the pandemic but he made it easy for his students to get their assignments done. We had 1 in class exam, this was counted towards our final grade still. However, he did not give any online exams instead we had assignments to watch videos and answered 3-4 questions.
Cont'd, just do the assignments online and do them on time, he does not accept late work nor does he like cheating. I was so happy to get an A in his class. This was my 1st his class and I was so worried I wouldn't do well. I was able to learn so much about WW1,2 and so much more. I would take him again!
Honestly if youre not good in history, dont take him. If it wasnt for the Pandemic and classes going online, i would have failed. Hes a tough grader and he teaches as if you already know or assumes you know the background to whatever he is teaching about. Hes lecture heavy and doesnt know how to shutup..
Would not recommend this professor.
WORSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE Professor @QCC. Don't ever take this course cause he will fail you.
He drops your lowest test grade. Lowkey thank god it was online. It made it easier
Don't take this professor. He wants you to listen to his lectures online and answer the questions from that. I recommend not taking him.
I loved his lectures. He is very passionate, but I gotta say his tests are kinda hard. I had him during the pandemic. We just had to watch the YouTube videos and answers the question. No exams during the online session. The people who are complaining most likely failed due to cheating. The online assignments were so easy.
I took him in the summer. Full online class. 5 weeks. 5 essays each week, 25 total. 15 lecture videos. No extra credit, no resubmission, or late work. I didn't use google or textbook, just watched his videos and the answers were there. Tried to Make my essays thorough & with detail cause he is a tough grader. Don't copy from google, he'll fail u.
It was intense.
DON'T TAKE HIM!!!!! I'M TRYING TO SAVE YOU. The worst class I've taken in my college.
Never choose this professor! The professor he taught was very complicated, and his questions were not clear at all,And then answer must be in accordance with his meaning back. And the funny thing is that he did not clearly indicate his meaning on the questions.
I warn you dont even think of taking him. Im taking him online and he expects pages of writing from his lectures every week and harshly grades the responses. You only can use his lecture for the responses.
Terrible professor in Qcc. During this pandemic time his behavior is not expected. He only upload videos and expect the answer from that video and the answer has to be multiple page which still not enough for him and you cant use outside source. I wish i could give him the terrible rude grade.
This professor has been so confusing for the entire fall semester so far. He wants you to watch his boring lectures and write pages upon pages based ONLY from his lectures. Then grades you a 7.6. I would not recommend him at all
This professor gives you 1 question assignments but wants it to be 100 pages long FOR 1 QUESTION! He makes us listen to his long drawn out lectures and then says BUT you cannot use any outside sources, only what I said in my lecture! Like what?? Smh. This is a ridiculous class. Do not take him! Thank me later!!
Dr. Pearl's lectures are some of the best. I honestly wish our lectures were in-person because he explains the material in such a way that is clear and easy to understand. Best of all, he makes history fun. He's devoted to teaching the subject to his students. He assigns 12 papers and your final grade is based on 10 of them.
Dr. Pearl is a tough grader so remember to be very thorough with the details you provide. The lectures were very interesting. I am glad I took this class, but don't be discouraged if you get a bad grade. He will drop your two lowest grades. However, try to do all of them to the best of your ability for a good grade. Good luck this semester.
I've had 2 history classes and the amount that I learned from this professor has surpassed those two classes. You have to put the time to listen to his lectures, just as you would sit to have in class, I asked for additional materials to do his assignments but he told me I don't need any and that his lecture would be enough and he was right.
This person would have been a great in-person teacher, but he is horrible for a 3-week winter schedule. He gives a vague instruction for the assignments and then bickers about every little thing. 4 the 1st assign, a 10- page well detailed essay that completely answers the question got me a C. Why? I did not include one thing. make that make sense.
I took him for his rating but trust me guys he is unforgiving professor and I took other professor who had 3 rating gave me a B- please don't take him
Worst History professor in QCC.
Dr. Pearl is one of the hardest professor in QCC. You have to write at least 10 pages and everything from his lecture to get good grade. Everything was an essay not a single test not everyone is good at writing essays all I can say is DO NOT TAKE.
If you love history and writing long essays (+20 pages) a week take him. I had Dr. Pearl during the winter session and I enjoyed his lessons so much. He is very passionate about history and makes the lessons entertaining. Just make sure to annotate as much as you can so that you have enough information to write a good paper and get a good grade.
After having a bad experience with another history class, I took him for the winter session, all we had to do was write about some videos. It was easy, but is a tough grader. Be ready to work for your grade ! I would take him again.
If you're ready to write a lot of papers and you like history then take him otherwise please please stay away
If you want to write 20+ pages every week, then you can take Dr. Pearl, otherwise don't take him. His lecture is not clear and tough grader. Overall bad experience.
non-clear direction, no academic value on this professor, I will never take again.
Took his class Fall 2020 HIST222 I personally think hes a great professor. He leaves you lectures to watch and then one-two question to answer per week. It is a writing intensive course so the workload is expected as much. He expects you to be thorough with your answer to show youve watched the lecture. Bit tough grader but good professor nonethe
I will not choose this professor again. If you meet this professor please stay away. He is really too paranoid.
His teaching material only has two hours of video. Very boring, only pictures and his voice. He does not allow students to use materials other than videos, he will use software to check every word of your essay and find did you copy form google. Once he finds that you are plagiarizing, he will fail you immediately.
He gives you a lecture video, you have to literally write down the important facts and figures (FROM HIS LECTURE ONLY) in your own words. The thing about this professor is, you dont have to think, you just need to set aside a few hours to type the long homework assignments every week.
I had a lot of details on my summer class but still received an F.
DOES NOT TRANSMIT INFORMATION SMOOTHLY, CORRECTION FROM PRIOR RATING IT IS VERY HARD TO LEARN FROM HIM STAY AWAY.
I'm taking this class online, his lectures are very very long, and he does transmit the information in a smooth manner to his students. extremely tough grader you can write 5-10 pages and will still receive a 70 or below on the paper. these papers are to be done weekly. stay away while you can
This professor is impossible to please by all means do yourself a huge favor and stay away. I am currently taking 2 history classes, at an A average in one of them and probably looking at a D or C- in Dr. Pearl's class. Please stay away he is lecture heavy and does not have a smooth way of passing on information
Worst professor I ever had in Qcc. He wants you to write essays for his weekly assignments as though we are writing a book and still will not be satisfied with your work for my first assignment I wrote ten pages and he give me a C- and didn't even say in the feedback where I lost the points please don't take him. Your GPA will be ruin
Many people seem to not read the comments when they choose a professor. I got an A in Dr. Pearl's class and even got complimented in one of my submissions, why? Because I followed the rules. Just write everything down. EVERYTHING!! Every date, every person, everything he talks about is important. Conclusion: 15-20 pages long + use your own words.
Basically, this is a writing-intensive class so be prepared to write AT LEAST 15-20 pages per week minimum. All you have to do is write what he's saying in his lectures. NO OUTSIDE SOURCES. ONLY HIS LECTURES. That's how you will pass. No participation is required. Pretty straightforward in my opinion. Gave him 4 stars only cause of the workload.
Extremely difficult professor.
Very fair no surprises
I will not choose this professor again. If you meet this professor please stay away. Don't use outside sources, he will fail you.
I don't recommend students to take Dr. Pearl's class if they have a disability. This professor is an extremely hard grader. You are lucky if you get to his standards and get a good grade on the homework assignments. His lectures are very hard to understand with a disability or out. This professor shouldn't be teaching at this university.
Worst Professor I ever had at QCC. I'm still taking him but his lectures are very boring, he basically wants you to write the answers from only what he says on his lectures and don't try to use outside information because he will fail you; He then even tell you that don't even try to use the same words that he uses in his lessons vids. Bad feedback
I took Dr. Pearl for a winter history class that i needed so i can graduate in spring. I was nervous about his reviews but i would honestly give him a 10/10. It was only three weeks and his assignments are very easy but takes a little time. Each week you would listen to four lectures and write a paper about 10 pages just giving a recap... Easy A
Winter online asynchronous class. Avg 8 pages of essays a week. ITS NOT BAD, ESPECIALLY IF YOU LIKE HISTORY. Dr. Pearl does an excellent job telling you stories of the past and if you really just listen and take notes the papers are a breeze. The only people who don't like Dr. pearl are lazy people or people who hate history. Dr. Pearl is FAIR.
WOULD NOT RECOMMEND!
Coursework is weekly writing assignments with pre-recorded lectures averaging 1 hour and 30 minutes. No word minimum and lectures are incredibly boring. A harsh grader most definitely, will call out any and all mistakes or missed information. Would not recommend this professor if you don't have to but for a writing-intensive class he is okay.
Dr. Pearl wasn't that bad even though I expected a B+. You will have three exams for this course so take down notes and read through the textbook to get an idea of what the exams will cover. If you need help please see him during his office hours which helped me a lot and did better in the 2nd and final exams.
You don't have to think & his thoughts are the ones he wants to see in all assignments. For an online course, compared to other professors in the department, I thought he was an unnecessarily harsh grader. Other professors provide extensions, drop lowest grades, provide extra credit or give actionable feedback for future assignments, not Pearl.
just dont.
History not supposed to be this stressful, professor only wants to use material provided in the lecture but he cannot explain history really. make it confusing but we cannot look at the internet to clarify the main point. come on this is just ridiculous at this point.
I liked him as a person because he's respectful and chill but I didn't appreciate his method of teaching. You're not allowed to record his lectures but he switches topics or goes off-topic and doesn't mention when he's back on track. Could never tell what he's talking about.
He is the harshest most unreasonable grader. His Lectures are truly extremely boring. For him to be able to talk about nonsense and go on and off track the day he does is mesmerizing to witness. He thinks he was there throughout history, he truly believes that the way he portrays history is the only correct way. Unreasonable with grading & homework
He grades unreasonably Harsh. Only lets you write based off of his lecture, and trust me he'll know. Twists history into his own sense gives an ungodly amount of homework. My friends at Ivy leagues aren't getting assignments like his. Wouldn't recommend
Currently on my 11 week with Dr. Pearl and dread it. Though it's an online class Dr Pearl's lectures bring the struggles of school to you! His online lectures are 1-2 hours long. His lectures are interesting but he's such a HARSH grader on the assignments he gives. Also if he notices just a bit of online info on your answers he'll give a zero.
Every week it's a 1-2 hour lecture with an assignment. About 5-7 questions with paragraph answers. He's very harsh and specific about what he wants to see in an answer. Provide all the relevant context as stated in the lecture to get full credit. Drops lowest 2 assignments and grade is averaged out of remaining 10. Overall a lot of work but easy A.
Be prepared for a 3 hour class. Be ready to take a lot of notes. And also be prepared to get harsh grades after you literally use HIS lectures as an essay source for the tests. Wouldn't recommend and I probably would not take again.
Tough class with a harsh grader. Professor Pearl's lectures can be long and confusing, and he's strict about only allowing content from his own materials. However, using resources like unstuckstudy alongside the textbook can help make the class more manageable. Not recommended if you're looking for an easy A.
I had him for History 205. I attended every lecture even though attendance isn't mandatory. He does't allow you to record his lectures so be prepared to write almost everything he says. Three exams in total. Go to office hours, he is very caring and helpful.
Personally i loved listening to his lectures, his lectures can be long but he makes a few jokes within the lectures. He's very understanding and clear about what he wants in the essays and gives great feedback on what you should work on.
Drop whatever class you have with him immediately. Harsh grading, does not care what you have to say, wants to fail you instead of passing you. You have to write word for word his lectures or you get an F.
He does not give any homework. He grades you for 3 exams only. All in person, in the blue book, each of them consisting of an essay on 3 different topics you could choose from and also has a mix and match; 20 of them match and 5 don't. A lot of reading from the textbook, and being there for the lectures is important or the exam will be hard to do.
I don't know why these history professors are on some power trip but history should never be this hard I only took this class but I have to in order to meet my requirements but he makes it so hard to pass he is a very harsh grader even A&P wasn't this hard this is crazy I'm writing this to warn others don't pick him for an easy A it's not happening
Attendance matters only because he doesnt post anything online so if you miss the class you miss the material and he won't post it. He's a tough grader but my grades got better as the tests went on. Theres only tests, no homework, and he'll give a study guide before each exam which basically tells you whats going to be on it.
Overall, pretty good professor but make sure you review your key terms. These are basically words in the exam study guide he gives. Half of your grade is based on that and an essay for each exam; you get 3 in total. He does not give any homework; just be there for the lectures. The class is 3 hours but there's a 20-minute break in between.
I'm usually very adaptive to professors, but this professor is very tough. Assignments must be word for word and only based off his lectures and when you do the assignment exactly how he wants it you still receive a failing grade because of something silly. I promise, i'm never biased or lazy, trust me when i say find another professor.
He's very simple. I took his World War 1 class. 3 exams, one of which is the final. He gives you a review, which is the exam questions. No homeworks, so you gotta do good on the tests. He does drop the lowest score, but he never drops the grade on finals (only the first two). Gotta go to the lectures, or you'll fall behind. Take good notes.
