Eastern Religions- WOW. I was appalled at how much he knew about the subject. There was hardly a question we could throw at him that he didn't know about. An extremely cooperative, nice, knowledgeable, and helpful teacher. I did get bored sometimes, but that could be just me.
Ethics & Values- Great teacher! liked to start debates within the class sometimes with issues that weren't the most politically correct. He is TOTALLY addicted to Rambo (good distraction)
This class is so much fun! and i don't even like philosophy
Ken White is an awesome teacher. He refers to the textbook quite frequently, but he doesn't quiz you on them. His midterm and final was take home and some of the questions weren't related to the text at all. He requires a term paper, but like the 1 page midterm/final, the 7 page term paper is also double spaced. Super fun guy. Very funny.
One of the best teachers I've ever had. He is extremely knowledgeable and helpful. He is a wonderful teacher!
i loved prof whites class. he has such a dry sense of humor, which is right up my alley. bring him a diet mnt dew the first day of class and everything will be a breeze. wants all of his students to succeed. take a class from him and you will not regret it. very fair grader.
(Western Religions) Prof. White is so funny and laid back. He's a great teacher. I would highly recommend him. This has been my third class from him. You'll do super well if you just remember: global warming is false, mayonnaise is horrible, and Buddhism has all the answers.
Awesome guy! Very witty and smart. He loves his students and wants to help as much as possible. Contents of the test are completely covered in class and allows you to choose the topics you want to write on before hand so you are never surprised. I was a joy to take class from him. Take as many classes from him as possible!
This guy is good. Most other people don't like their teachers for this subject. He is a good teacher. He uses the book a lot, but i haven't read all the time. Go and participate in class and you'll be fine. Go with an open mind and you'll like it. i don't like ethics and values, but did enjoy his class.
Professor White was a great teacher. If you want to learn a lot about a Religions take one of his classes. He is very qualified to teach this class. I was taking another religions class at the same time and because of Professor White I was often able to answer questions that my other teacher (not a college course) could not.
SHOW UP WHENEVER YOU WANT AND WRITE AN 8 PAGE PAPER AT THE END. THREE OTHER 2-PAGE ASSIGNMENTS. GREAT CLASS
Long story short, TAKE HIS CLASS!!! Great teacher, fun class and easy enough that you will still learn something if you want to.
Easiest and funnest teacher ever! His class is a blast! Midterm and final consist of writing 3 one-page essays in class (which are mostly personal opinion) You'll get to pick what you want to write though! One paper on whatever you want to write. Easy A! He hates mayo and loves Rambo! You'll love this class! TAKE IT IF YOU WANT AN A!!
Ken White is very intrested in his subject! He is fun to listen to and has quiet a bit of background in the subject. Took both Western and Eastern religions and both are great classes.
Fantastic Teacher! He is so nice and always takes time to meet with struggling students, in a relaxed manner. Even waved a paper when I was way buried in homework;Makes funny puns in class, fantastic lecturer, and very interesting slide shows, and good discussions. Loved this class because of this teacher! Take him and you won't be sorry! He rocks!
Great Teacher! Don't bother buying all those books, just the main one. I would pick Eastern Rel. over this class, which he also teaches. Extremely flexible with paper subjects. Very Helpful outside class. Cares about u as a person. Take Him-anything he teaches is a fantastic experience!
Quizzes are tough, but he is pretty flexible on grading. Super witty, funny, and entertaining. Not your average boring lectures. DEFINITELY take him.
Best ethics class! Easy yet interesting. Very open to others opinions. Funny and keeps class discussions involved. Quizzes and tests are easy if you pay attention and participate in the discussions. Did not have the book, just listened during class.
BEST TEACHER EVER! I took this class Spring 2010 and stopped going after a week because it was the worst class ever. I heard about this teacher and signed up for his class in Fall 2010 and loved it! He was actually interesting and funny and made the material much easier to learn. Easy A! Great class!
I've taken two classes with Ken. He is awesome! Fair, witty, flexible, INTERESTING, knowledgeable... There is no homework, quizzes are relatively easy, and his lectures are entertaining. He does count attendance but if you go to class it is extremely beneficial. I never read a single page of the textbooks because it's covered in class. Amazing guy.
Probably the best teacher I've had at UVU! He is awesome!
Very nice and easy going guy, and somewhat entertaining. The Ethics and Values class i took was extremely easy. It was one of those classes you rarely go to and still pass with an A.
Great teacher. was fun to be in his class.
He is a facinating teacher. I had him this semester for Eastern Religions...he is funny and incredibly learned. He knows more unique languages than you can shake a stick at! But don't be fooled by some postings...at least in Eastern Religions...if you don't study the lecture notes (especially definitions), you won't pass quizzes!
Professor White is the BEST teacher at UVU! Is very willing to help students, very knowledgable. Love the fact that he likes to teach!
Ken is the best teacher that I've had at UVU. He's extremely intelligent, hilarious, and very approachable in and out of class. I wish all my teachers were more like Ken! I didn't feel like the books were very necessary. The tests are almost entirely from the lecture notes. Go to class (it's fun), take and study the notes, and you'll get an A.
Very sarcastic, fun guy that knows his stuff. He brings up a lot of flawed beliefs in today's society. Participation isn't mandatory.
Ken White is an amazing professor. I loved coming to class to hear his lectures because I learned a lot and they were highly entertaining. If you want a conservative ethics and values professor, he is the guy to have!
Eastern Religion: Great teacher and extremely funny. Very sarcastic which students love. I want to take a ethics class from him. well worth the money
The professor gave engaging lectures that covered all of the material that he tested on. Extremely knowledgeable about the topic and was willing to answer any questions that students had. Prof. White treated all of the students with respect. I will be taking another class from him in the future.
He comes to class everyday with his powerpoint all set up. He like others when they give their opinions or tell stories. He responds really well when others speak. He treats everyone fairly. He has a great attitude and is really funny! He is very knowledgeable about the subject and you can tell he has a passion for what he is teaching.
I arranged my schedule to take Ethics from Prof. White after having him for Eastern Religions. Be sure to know the definitions for quizzes...they can be tough. But he's an amazing teacher...I only wish he taught more course!
Ken white is the BEST! For reals, if you ever have a chance to take his class, do it. I do wish that he taught more classes! I went to his first class not knowing what to expect, but had a great time. He would be like the coolest dad ever, but he is your professor! If you have any questions, just ask. He knows so much. Thanks for a great semester!
He is a very easy teacher. He responds well to the emotionally charged opinions of students. He is good at making you think. Course work is not hard. He is fair and he is a very interesting person.
Amazing! Loves to talk about Oprah Winfrey and Obama! His two favorite people ever!
This class is very discussion based, and the professor notices who is participating or not and will grade you on that. He doesn't care what your opinions are, as long as you have put some thought into your answer. Tests are much the same way. Do the readings, and know the vocabulary words he gives every week, because they will be on the quizzes.
Easy tests as long as you actually tried to do it. It is a philosophy class and its hard to give someone a wrong answer.
I was really surprised after reading everyone's comments. I found Dr. White to be extremely knowledgeable but took a demeaning tone when talking about other religions. He also tries to tie the religions he's teaching about to Mormonism. He comes across as being "above" the religions he's teaching about. Tough to know what to focus study time on too
Kenneth was fantastic! He loved to let the class participate in discussions and most of the classes he let us talk about our thoughts on ethics and values. It was refreshing to have a class where you're allowed to have an opinion.
He's very knowledgeable on religion, so his powerpoint lectures were interesting. Other than two papers due at the end of the semester, there was no final. Readings are assigned, but not essential. He helps you understand various religious perspectives. He likes to get on a soapbox and make commentaries on society, which is a little annoying.
Show up to class, review the vocabulary words he puts on the board before tests, and complete the 8 page paper and you will get an A. He says that reading the textbook is mandatory but I didn't read it at all and still got an A. Just listen to the discussions in class and you will be fine. Every class you just show up and talk. sometimes takes roll
He is a really great Professor! He knows how to teach! He doesn't attack students or their beliefs and respects everyone. He is an excellent educator and really knows his stuff. If you want to see the world in a more peaceful and hopeful way, take his class. He also knows a lot about other cultures (BONUS). I highly recommend taking his class!
The class was an easy A, but I wouldn't take from him again. There were many things he taught that were downright erroneous and it made me question everything I learned. *FIVE* books were listed as required for this class, but you really don't need any of them. His tests/quizzes were solely off class lectures and power points.
DON'T BUY ANY OF THE BOOKS! Show up to class, take notes, you won't need any of the textbooks. Ken's nice and funny, although class is boring sometimes. Two papers and a few quizzes. It's a pretty easy A as long as you show up. He worked with me when I missed quizzes, but I emailed him 3 times asking for my grade and he never got it to me.
Kenneth was great. You don't need the book. He covers topics from the book and you discuss them as a class. He keeps the discussions interesting. You take 3 tests, 1 final, and write an 8 page final paper and you're done. The tests are half Matching and Half essay but they are so easy. Takes roll occasionally.
I had a great time in his class. I read some of the book, but wasn't necessary for taking the quizzes, if you show up to class you'll learn all you need to know. Very laid back guy, I enjoyed listening to lectures. Has a lot of good perspectives. Doesn't update canvas with grades, but there is very little he grades on so you should figure it out.
Such an easy class! The only homework we had was reading but I never read, as long as you show up for the discussions you will be fine for his quizzes. He is very nonjudgemental when you share your opinions. Super interesting discussions. You have a long final paper, just write something your passionate about and the final is EASY. EASY A!!
Here's the thing--Prof. White was very funny, nice, and an easy grader. This was one of the easiest classes I have ever taken. BUT, he came to class with a very biased outlook that informed the way he taught in a big way. As a Phil class, I hoped I would learn a lot. Instead, I just felt that he was disrespectful of opinions different than his own.
Take good notes and study for the quizzes, you will do fine. Dry sense of humor you can't not laugh with.
He has a good sense of humor and is overall a good person. It is an easy class. Just show up and listen/take notes and you will be good for all the in class quizzes and tests. The only thing that was frustrating is that he didn't put any grades in till the day grades were due. So I was very stressed because I had no idea if I had a D or an A.
I freaking love Ken White and his class. The best part about his class what that not only was it low stress + an easy A, but I actually LEARNED things. He creates a very open environment for discussion and knows a ton of stuff about a ton of stuff. By far my favorite class. I wish he taught other classes/subjects. I would take him for everything.
He knows a lot about what he is teaching, to the point where he gives way too much unneeded information. He is real chill though only a couple of quizzes that were very easy, just answer the questions and you will do good. He claims you need a textbook but I did not use it the whole semester. The final is a paper on your choice of topic pretty easy
Super chill. Its a great class to just sit back and listen to some knowledge. Lectures are directly based on the book, so even if you fall behind in reading attending class can compensate. 3 easy quizzes just to make sure you're paying attention and a final paper that about whatever you want.
Professor White's class is very lecture heavy but I never purchased the book because he goes over every chapter in class and still got all A's on the tests. You only write one paper the entire semester, 3 quizzes, and a final. Wouldn't want to have taken the class from anyone else! He's very kind and wants everyone to succeed.
he is clear and to the point. he never has large classes so it's the perfect for discussions and questions. He will always stop and answer all your questions. My class had 0 homework, my grade was based on my test scores, so be prepared to come to class and study. He's so sweet and funny!
Easiest professor ever. He is very nice guy, and he makes himself very available to students. I don't feel like I learned a lot from him, but if you want to just take any easy class, he's the one to take it from. He gives out a few quizzes over the semester on his powerpoints & has you write 2 4-5 page papers. THAT'S IT!
I enjoyed this class and it wasn't hard to get an A. He's very respectful, intelligent, and always open to hear what the class has to say. We were graded on a few quizzes and a 7-10 page paper at the end of the semester. My only issue was that he seemed pretty politically biased and doesn't use Canvas at all, except to post announcements and files.
So I took this class when the pandemic had just started, this class was originally supposed to be face to face but it ended up to be an online course. I am a procrastinator and I don't like reading, but this class is very simple. There are only 3 quizzes and 1 final exam and 1 final (10 pages) paper. And the paper is on any subject you chose.
I hate Philosophy this was my 2nd time taking it but very easy! If you wanna learn more take someone else, if you want a brief overview of it, he's the man! Very smart, good lectures. You don't need a textbook but he recommends it, he'll share everything in class anyway about the readings. 3 Quizzes and 1 final -answer basic Q's, 8pg paper ur topic
Great professor, easy class, just sit back and learn. Couple assignments but they arent too bad and they help you to learn. I recommend taking this class from prof white.
Professor White is awesome. He is soft spoken and uses a lot of dry humor. I thought his classes were always really interesting and he always gives some good nuggets of wisdom. Not the most easy to get a hold of outside of class, but seriously is so laid back and really a good guy with a really cool background. I'd take another class from him.
Wonderful teacher! Loved the class. Very doable work and expectations. Kenneth White is hilarious. Class is always better when people do the readings and come to class prepared to have a wonderful discussion. 3 quizzes, a final exam and final paper. All pretty easy!
I loved Professor white, the classes are very lecture heavy but if the students interact it is pretty fun. There are no homework assignments, just quizzes every unit and a 10 page final paper and a final test. All tests are very easy because its subjective. If you make sure you know the vocab you will be fine on tests.
Prof White incredibly entertaining while giving lectures. He knows a lot about the subject, and understands that not everyone is as passionate about it. So his lectures are full of great information, but he adds a bit of clever humor to keep you engaged. He will also discuss opposing views, or answer any question you may have in class.
i LOVED this class. its fairly easy if you show up to each lecture, which are entertaining and include discussions with the class. Theres no homework, just quizzes after each unit (7 in all) and a final paper with a topic of your choosing ( 8 pages ). He isn't the easiest to reach outside of class but most of the time you don't need to.
Professor White was a great teacher! His classes were super lecture heavy, and although he did not take attendance, you would really suffer on the quizzes if you were to miss only one.
Student to student, if you have the option to take a class from Professor White, just do it. You will not regret it, he is one of the best professors I have ever had, and I learned so much from him! However, if you don't go to class you will not learn as much as when you're in class, which will make the quizzes harder. all in all, take his class!
If you can take a class from Ken, DO IT. He's so entertaining and the most laidback teacher I've ever had. He's so funny and he understands that you're in a required class and you're probably not into philosophy. Honestly, you don't even have to get the textbook, I never did and ended up with a 99.7%. He's my favorite teacher I've had at UVU by far
If you attend the lectures, take notes, and study before tests, this class should not be a very hard class. That being said, the lectures tended to be a lot of information only on power points which made class very boring. I would take this class again for a GE, but not for anything else.
Take a chance on Professor White. He's easily the most laidback and enjoyable professor I've had. His lectures and discussions are inspiring and amazing! He had us take quizzes, write a paper, and give a presentation, which I learned a lot from and also enjoyed. He's the best, evidently caring and enjoyable.
He doesn't do ANYTHING online, but I honestly liked that! Just come to class every day and listen to his lectures and funny jokes! Such a fun professor, and I felt at ease in his class. Very nice, and very light on the homework (other than reading a book throughout the class). Only gives 4 tests throughout the semester, and they're quite simple.
Literally the best teacher, his classes are interesting and he's kind and funny. Take his class you won't regret it. He'll help you too when you need it.
Dr. White is passionate about religious teachings, & makes good dad jokes. But lectures are long, sometimes too detailed and sometimes too bare, but he posts them online (if he remembers) so you can take notes without going. BEWARE, some slides don't have notes and it's Bc he discusses imp. test stuff. Tests and final were easy af. not tech savvy.
Professor White's course consists of him presenting slideshows on the topics he presents for the vast majority, followed by quizzes sprinkled throughout and two major papers (8-10 pages long). His lectures are both informative and funny as he will go on side tangents. However, it is up to you to remember the due dates for the papers so set alarms.
Super easy class. Only have to worry about quizzes and one paper. Everything is on paper though, the only thing on Canvas is the syllabus. Even attendance is on paper. Really chill teacher, goes on some weird tangents sometimes though.
Prof. White has been my favorite professor at UVU. I am sad to be graduating, I want to take another class from him. He knows so much & has personal experiences with different religions. He loves what he teaches. He's hilarious. I looked forward to every class. We had 7 quizzes that were simple and 2 papers. No final or midterm. Just pay attention.
My first time taking a philosophy class was a miserable experience, but the second time I had a different teacher. Dr. White's class was phenomenal. Lectures were awesome! You don't actually need the book. He summarizes things in class and provides context. The quizzes are easy if you listened in class. He wants you to do well. One of my favorites!
Really liked professor White's class, I was warned by my friends ethics and values would be boring but Kenneth really made it so interesting. He isn't the type of teacher to read paragraphs off of slides, he'll have a sentence or two and then explain more in depth himself, so coming to class is important. 3 quizzes, a final paper, and final exam.
He would take attendance via passing around a paper to write your name on it, but it was never graded in canvas, like attendance wasnt graded. He passed the paper around every day, lol idek it was so funny.
I thought in new ways of analyzing the topics and had wonderful insights from other students by their experiences that correlated with the class. I appreciated the teachers messages about the given object lessons that created a open space environment to participate in handling uncomfortable questions that critically think on my own to consider life
Amazing teacher! Comprehensive for the class. Professor Kenneth White demonstrated his experience as an expert in different types of philosophies. He influence my decision to major in philosophy because there's so much to know with such little information from the semester. Overall, the class will provide essential skills in all areas of academia
Mind-blowing dialogs that creates healthy challenges and puzzle coding conclusions. Approaching one's own social constructive behavior to re-evaluate the choices that are made in day-to-day activities. Observes the biases and preconceived notions of what is absolutely important as well as what is not. I was renewed by experiences that involved me.
A great professor. The texbook we used was The Moral Life 6e, which gave around 50 pages to read per week, though he covered everything we would be tested on in the lectures. Definitely very old-school, as he kept attendance by passing around a paper and had almost nothing on Canvas. Good teaching style and quite funny.
Kenneth is a great guy
Kenneth had great lectures and was a funny guy. No homework and although the textbook reading was technically required, all the content was posted on canvas so you could just quickly study it before the quiz and pass
Ken White is one of the best professors I've ever had! It's clear he genuinely cares about his students and wants everyone to succeed. He's always willing to answer questions both during and outside of class. The course doesn't involve much work on Canvas or the computer—you mainly listen to his lectures and take quizzes in class.
His class is incredibly easy to pass, but it's kind of a drag. I used it like a study period and my grade is currently around 90% classes are over. He doesn't actually read your papers, could have used AI and passed even easier than I did, but I think if you use AI to pass a course this easy you won't make it much further in college.
Super lecture heavy. I missed a lot of classes and my grade never went down when he said he graded participation in class. He explains the topic super well and uses super informational slides, but overally is still pretty boring to sit through. He requires you to get a textbook, we've never used it once all semester, but he reads it to us.
Professor White is one of the greatest professors I have ever had the privilege to learn under. He is so engaged and dedicated to not only his teaching, but also the success of his students. He is incredibly wise, caring, and especially hilarious. His classes always put me into a great mood. I will look back on this class fondly.
