my worst proff to date
Right or wrong his credentials make him right-good luck you'll need it!
Interesting, but expects a lot for a 100-level class.
Very nice, and a relaxed guy. Not afraid to joke around with us.
You will learn alot in this class, but he marks very very hard.
I describe something he said as Blah, blah, blah and he snapped on me after class and hated my from that point on, looks weird too.
This is a class where you have to work, and know your stuff! I liked his class, because he was just like my high school teacher, but marked a lot easier. Know your grammar and punctuation for this class, people!

What a great guy to take the class from. Big surprise: you have to try to get a good mark.
Extremely difficult class. He has a good sense of humour, and knows a plethera of information, but the class material doesnt accomidate for easyness. He is extremely picky with your writing, and marks difficut as well, not sure what he is looking for.
He marks really hard, you have to watch your grammar. He likes to swear alot, and he seems like he is laughing at us to himself alot. Maybe we are idiots. If you take his class, be prepared to work hard, there are a lot of essays.
Good teacher, a little stoked on himself but funnya nd intelligent if you write honestly and put in some effort you will do well, at least he cares enough to comment on the work and not just hand out a random mark
He's an alright teacher but he definitly has his favorites. He's flexible with deadlines thought and you are really not overloaded with work. Make sure to do you reading though or he can make an ass of u.
He lets you speak your opinion, but then kind of disregards them. For example, on our poetry assignments, our groups expressed what we thought the poet meant, and then Wilson basically said "No, you are wrong", and said what he thought was righ
I disliked this course, but I can't strenously complain about his teaching.
Highly reccomend him for english 100. We did peer reviews which alot of english 100 classes didnt do, and I think they help you alot. You have to earn your mark in this class.
would not recommend him if you are the creative type. He isnt the most open-minded prof, if you can conform yourself to what he thinks you will probably do fine
I also had him for 100. He's a bit odd, but a good prof overall, DEFINATELY MAKES YOU EARN YOUR MARKS...very hard on grading, but fair. Interesting sense of humour as well.
He is a intelligent prof. He's a hard marker, but he is fair. You know every English100 class is hard, so donot need complain 2 much. He is Ok!
He's very funny during lectures. But, give him your paper to mark and he is merciless. Lowest marked class I've ever had - several friends failed. Unless you KNOW your English and are prepared to study hard, for the love of God avoid Ken's film class.

Worthwhile prof, pretty good as far as english profs go. You'll have to work for your marks, but if you pay attention and think out what you write you'll be fine. He is a little closed-minded and tends to favour his own opinion though.
This class was the hardest class I have taken in University. He is a VERY hard marker on essays and is not very open minded. His class topics are interesting but some may find his discussions and personality creepy!!
never take this class. This is by far the hardest marking prof in the world. not very open minded, and makes you look small in front of the entire class. for the love of god if you have this prof drop all your other classes or change your prof if you want to take more then just one class.
this class sucks butt
Ken gives you two options, work hard or fail miserably. He teaches well though and is quite clear on what he expects of you Highly recommended if yopu want to actually LEARN something from this course
Unless you are a great writter who enjoys being made to feel one inch tall avoid Ken. Does not explain what he wants, answers questions with questions and spends all class time disecting actually having student disect other peoples sucsseful work not teaching you how to write
I have no idea who this class was for. You won't learn a thing about English. He is the most close-minded prof I have met. He is anti-creativity incarnate and extremely picky without being clear what he wants. You don't write papers; you guess how he would write them. Dont'take UNIV 110 with him.
This class was very interesting and I would take another from him again in a second. He was very helpful and let us revise our essays to improve our marks. Definetely a good choice for eng 110.
Amazing prof! Very clear/fair on expectations and workload. Work hard, though, because he doesn't put up with people who come unprepared and/or don't try.
If you work hard, you'll do well, if you slack off, you will do poor. He has interesting opinions about subjects and be sure to pay attention and attend every class or else you will be lost.
he expect too much and too picky, if you don't write something he likes, you are going to expect to fail his class. don't take any of the ken wilson's classes
WORST PROF EVER!!!! DROP OUT IF UR TAKING A CLASS FROM HIM... he honestly makes u feel like crap and is intimidating and you never know wat he's expecting!!!
Do not take a class from him!Doesn't cover anything important in class. All essays are about dull topics, like restating others' thesis. Makes you write papers about your opinion, and then marks your opinion wrong! Not open-minded! Not nice! Beware!
Ken Wilson is a fantastic teacher. Some of the comments above pertaining to him "asking questions rather than giving answers" lead me to the point that he is trying to teach eng110 students how to ASK EFFECTIVE questions and keep pushing on WHY things are certain ways. He doesn't have much patience for mental lepers, though. Not that I blame him.
He is the hardest marker. If you state your opinion he marks it wrong, no matter what. You never know what he is looking for.
worst prof I have ever had. I had to get my marks look at by the dean because they were so bad in his class. once they were looked at by another eng teacher my mark went up 15%. Since I have taken his class i went from being a 50% student to an 85% in all my other english classes. That tells you something. DO NOT TAKE ANY CLASS FROM HIM!
WORST PROFESSOR I HAVE EVER HAD IN MY ENTIRE LIFE-- He is very inconsiderate towards his students--he enjoys failing people--NEVER TAKE A CLASS FROM HIM-- Nothing is ever good enough for him, he marks way to hard!!!
prof puts students down and has no care for babying them, which is life and university students need to get over that. he is not a bad prof but he is tough, he only grades you down on your opinions if you do not have the evidence to back them up, i am a horrible writer and did every last minute and lazily and still got a 70.
I took ENGL 100 from Ken in 2002, and his class inspired me to continue taking English. He has an evident appreciation for literature and language, and anyone who shares this appreciation should take his classes.
He is a bit of a tough marker but seems to sincerely enjoy teaching. DO NOT talk in his class as it pisses him off bad. If you can do that you should get along fine. Definitely worth taking a class with him.
He is by far the worst prof on the face of this earth. He is rude to students, and harsh.I recall almost everyone in the class hating him. I would rather quit university, before taking another class from this mean guy!!
This guy is an awesome teacher. He is a dick but so what he can be. He just doesnt put up with people with no common sense. Other then that HE IS A GREAT prof. So what if he doesnt allow u to talk in his class and spazzes if ur phone rings, once again its common sense, you dont have it, he doesnt like you. He is passionate about the material he use
I had Ken as my ENGL100 prof as well,i enjoyed him so much and was happy with the workload and fair marking so I went out of my way to take a night class from him for ENGL110. For everyone who is saying that you cant state you opinion in his class, you definately can, you just cant be an idiot about it, you need to have clear support. TAKE HIS CLAS
great
he is my favorite prof, you have to work hard but it IS university, so suck it up. he is very smart and interesting, which makes the class fun
For some reason, this English prof is teaching us History of Film, which is a bad start already. The class has potential, but he just dries everything up and talks the entire time, without giving reference to where we can find the information. Unhelpful, often unfair, and just generally a bad teacher. Impossible to learn anything with him.
Ken is awesome. His sarcasm and wit kill me. Do the reading, do the work, and you'll be fine. If you don't display a desire to do well, he'll see it and treat you accordingly. PS: He mentioned that 60% of his film class didn't know how to properly cite their work. Doesn't surprise me that film students don't like him. lol
Really helpful outside class, and informative inside class. Uses webct and Returns emails.
Tough marker but does let you submit revised essays for a new mark & will meet with you to give advice on how to improve your essay. Challenging class, but really effective in teaching you how to be a better writer. Can be harsh on students w/ his comments in class, but is very animated and engaging. You can do well if you work hard, read & attend.
Brutal prof. Just brutal.
Don't take this class, it's horrible. Completely killed my love of film, the weekly journal entries are horrible. The midterms are impossible and the films are dull and YOU MUST KNOW EVERYTHING ABOUT THEM. You really don't want to get on his bad side, he'll ridicule you in front of the entire class. Wish I could dropped it while I could have.
horrible prfessor, because he is master of english and he will english 100 student with publishable essays or he will fail your class. His class is not easy at all!
When he was teaching film, i really think it was not for the amusement of it. I am not sure what he's like as an english teacher, but I would not take a course from him again!!
Marks tough! He is a good teacher but doesnt use a marking scale just marks on whether or not he notices that everything is in order which is kind of hard to understand! He is very funny and an interesting prof! English 100 is a tough class but overall he is a good teacher just takes some getting used too!
You have to actually make an attempt to learn how to write a proper academic essay in his class. If you do that, you'll get good marks and enjoy his class. He is a very good prof and is willing to help. As an aside, he mentioned a few times about Film students that aren't able to write essays -- it is no surprise then that they rate him poorly.
Definitely a very good prof. It wasn't dull, boring or useles. He gives you many chances to pass and is very helpful.
This professor swears throughtout class and does not value students opinion in their essays, so don't add them. He was late to class several times and was very moody. Marks very hard and his handwritting is hard to read.He requires 5 essays for his class as well as 2 exams.
Ken's class is not easy, but it is very beneficial. He does curse a bit, but I never had a problem with it. Ken has always made himself available after classes. Ken understands that repetition is important in anything, and writing is no exception. Ken is a difficult teacher to become adjusted to, but he is worth it.
Do not take a class from him. Rude to his students has a horrible attitude while teaching(like we don't know anything). You CAN redo your essay's, but when I correct every single one of his corrections my mark went up from a 5 to a 6.5 such a waste of time.Told me "maybe 50 is just the best you can do." Also taken to the board of harrasment.HORRIBLE
Overall good teacher. Has a good sense of humour. Will always help if you ask for it. The class was a lot of work, but worth it in the end.Compared to some other English teachers, he is not that bad.My friend had a prof that took marks off an incorrectly stapled paper. So thankfully,he is not as picky as that.I enjoyed him,he made class interesting!
He is RUDE and PRETENTIOUS. Said to the entire class that we are kidding ourselves because we are film students in Regina. Overall his teaching abilities are good, he knows what he's talking about and he doesn't mark too hard. He is incredibly picky about citations, so make sure they are PERFECT or he'll give you a zero.
To do well in Ken's class you really have to try hard. Take notes during his lectures and read the material before class. He gives 5 essays worth 10% each, before you hand them in go ask for help with them! It will definitely help. I really enjoyed this class, and he was always able to answer any questions that I had!
I had no problem being casual in this class. Ken does not pick boring material to cover. You need to write 4 essays, one mandatory, and the other 3 gave you freedom to choose. The subjects each had their own due dates, so you had control over those too. Hand your essays in on time and you get to revise for a better grade! No reason to fail.
he will fail you no matter how good your essay is as long as he dont see what he like. his class is boring and he treat us like stupid. i would not recommend anyone to take his classes
He is a very hard marker. Evidence is key when making arguments in essays. He was extremely interesting and entertaining in class. I found that the class and the reading was very enjoyable but when it came to marking it was extremely tough
Ken Wilson was an excellent prof. He's a bit hard on his students and the essays take effort. But if you can't keep up with his class, then frankly, you shouldn't be in university. It really wasn't that hard and Ken does require us to use evidence but it's good practice. He's always willing to help. Oh, and DON'T show up late to class... Trust me.
I would recommend Professor Wilson to anyone taking English 100. He is very helpful when you ask for assistance and gives you plenty of time to complete assignments and essays; however, his marking tends to be a bit hard. All in all, Professor Wilson is an amazing instructor. I am glad to have taken his class!
I would not recommend Ken Wilson at all. He is very inconsiderate and assigns way too many home work. If you want to have a life, then don't take him! He is also not a Dr. Therefore, don't call him one!
Prof knew his stuff, very good at delivering the material. Needed to be there to do well because class discussion was extensive. Expected the class to be respectful and treated you with the same.
I actually liked this prof! He is hard on students and is strict about things (no cell phones, be on time) but he taught me a lot and wants to see people succeed. Many students dropped the class because he is a bit intimidating but I'm glad I stuck it out. He was easy to approach after class. I would take his class again.
Terrible prof, do NOT take a class from this guy. Journals every week and a ton of work.
There are a lot of journals, but it's pass/fail, 2 pages and completely optional. He gets assignments back quickly and gives helpful comments. He's not the most approachable prof, but he gives strait forward answers. You have to show up for class and put actual research into the research essay in order to do well.
Pros are that he likes his job(hopefully), goofy guy on the inside, and tries to make class interesting. Cons are that class is disorganized. Talks about the readings and provides insightful comments, but lets the books teach the students. There is only one answer. If you get it wrong, good luck!!!
He does take attendance, so go! He assigns readings every week however I rarely read them. Journal entries for marks as well which are insanely easy (your own opinion). He can be funny, but be on his good side. IF you use a secondary source (which he strictly says not to) he will get upset with you. Plays are table read in front of the class.
Even though he is really tough on his students, he does this because he cares and he wants you to work for it and improve. One on one time with him to discuss your writing is extremely helpful! He does require journal entries every week, which can be a bit of a pain. If you come unprepared to class he gets a bit peeved.
Prof. Wilson cares about his students learning and becoming a better writer. He gives good feedback on essays and journals. Doing 10 journals and 4 essays last semester improved my writing skills. It made me aware of the words, punctuation, etc. I use. The class is boring though. He's grumpy outside, funny inside. The giant globe is his big enemy!
Absolute beauty
Would not take again.....
Bad experience
quizzes are regular with new content, read the syllabus as he goes by it almost ritualistically. His criteria for essays is confusing so be sure to understand fully how it operates.
Dr. Wilson very obviously cares about his students, but he goes about it the wrong ways. He comes across as very harsh and can be offensive at times. Pop quizzes occur weekly- he does not tolerate lates and will start disliking you if you have absences. He will write long and helpful (sometimes rude) comments on any assignment you turn in
Professor Wilson is the worst prof I have had. He comes off extremely rude and very unprofessional. Such a tough marker and his feedback left on all of my essays were very mean. He will call you out in class and make you look stupid for the littlest things. Also if you dont show up with the textbook then he will make you leave. Also no laptops.
Do a favour on yourself. Don't take his class.
get ready to spend some cash, he asks for over 5 textbooks to be boughten. prof. Wilson is not clear on what he is looking for in assignments and is very harsh when commenting on essays. I would not recommend taking his class and I will never take another one of his classes.
If you dont like Ken Wilson, you either suck at english or are a snowflake. He is the best.
Since Mr. Wilson spent the last 4 months leaving rude comments on my writing, it's time I leave some rude comments about him. His zoom lectures are useless, marks our papers like we're professional writers, and writes comments on our work that isn't helpful at all (disrespectful too) Unless you love Eng. and you are good at it, AVOID THIS CLASS
Pro. Wilson gives a lot of homework during the semester. And, it does not guide the student properly. Moreover, he wants the student to become a professional writer. And, he makes some serious comments about his journal writing and essays. And, he wants 4 and 5 books from the store. He gives some difficult tasks throughout the semester.
Course load was as expected for a University level english class. Due dates and assignments were fair. I'm not a fan of english and I still enjoyed this class. He lets you do extra assignments for extra marks. Not the kindest prof, but once he knew who you were after meeting with him he was better. Lots of criticism, not always constructive.
He is the worst prof! He is rude and a hard marker.
Kenneth is one of the worst professors/educators I have ever come across in my entire life. He hardly gives any feedback, and won't help you. When you do ask questions, his response will be rude and confusing. He will make you feel like you're an idiot. His essay prompts are extremely hard to write about and often do not make very much sense. AVOID
Professor Wilson is extremely disrespectful and is quite frankly the worst person I have ever met. He likes to tear down his students and leaves useless, rude comments on essays. Avoid this class at all costs. not worth the money. also be prepared to be called out after one mistake.
One of the most disrespectful individuals I have met. His demander in class was appalling and he continuously was rude to students for the most simple mistakes. His essays were difficult and he provided little help for improvement. IMO it was not worth the money. But If you want pay to be belittled and disrespected go ahead and take this course.
This professor literally scarred me for any type of writing that I have done in the since taking this class. Took this class about a year ago and was the worst experience. Marks very hard and if you aren't a "pro" writer like him, good luck. Feedback is also tough and rude. Professor Wilson would call me out in class for no reason and then blame me
Taking class has improved my writing significantly. Some may consider his attention to detail to be "nit-picky", but that was exactly what allowed me to identify my bad writing habits that others ignored. I'm guessing the bad reviews are not from students who wanted to improve their writing. If I take another CW class, I hope to take it from Ken.
Worst prof ever. Took this class in Winter 2021, I have never had so much anxiety handing in an assignment in my entire life. His comments arent helpful, they are just rude and make you feel terrible about yourself. They go far beyond constructive criticism. If you struggle in writing or have problems with self esteem do not take his class.
He is a tough prof. However I think the biggest problem is that he does not know how to handle an intro level class. I took his class after a few English classes and he helped me improve my writing. He expects 2nd or 3rd year level essays from 1st year students and it is not fair.
Despite all the negative comments, Ken Wilson is a pretty decent professor! Sure, he does say some harsh things to you if you come unprepared or hand in poor work, but overall he is a pretty nice guy. His feedback is reasonable and fair. He definitely doesn't deserve the hate he gets from his student's reviews.
Professor Wilson was a blast. My favorite class this semester. There is a decent amount of work load, especially at the start and having to analyze the books/poems. He's funny, makes jokes w the class often. Hard marker, but he really wants u to succeed. He gives feedback after each essay, and offers for you to rewrite and hand in within 3 weeks
He is the top G
Great Class! Workload: Hand in 10 journals, 4 essays, and a final - could ask for extension. Have to buy materials. He can be harsh if you haven't done an assignment, but that's expected. Very accessible outside of class and you could go to him for feedback. His expectations and feedback are very clear. Overall, I learnt a lot from his class!
He refused to answer any questions about assignments. All he would say is, "Just look over the damn syllabus." Several times a class he would make fun of students for studdering or having difficulties talking. You can tell he is just here for a paycheck. Will never take another class with him again.
You will have lots of reading to do every week and if you don't do it he will be mad. Make sure you have access to a printer cause he will bully you in front of everyone if you don't print out everything in the class.
This class has an insane workload. He is a very mean marker. On one essay I changed only my thesis and a few grammar errors, and my paper went to a 65 to a 85, obviously telling me he marks that way just to do it. Made me hate myself and my writing abilities at many, many points. Just please do no take this class.
At first, I thought Kenneth Wilson was a great professor, but he was extremely rude and seemed to bully everyone in the class. The class had a rule that everything was a physical copy, so be ready to have a printer available, or he would shame you into leaving the class. He marks harshly and will argue with you about your paper.
Very strict professor. Mandatory attendance and if you are late he will shame you in front of everyone. Have to have physical copies of books and readings. No devices. He was not compassionate to English learners so beware. Talks and acts like he is superior to everyone. However, I learned a lot and was able to achieve good marks with effort.
i don't recommend this instructor for new students, and other students who are thinking of re-taking English 100 course with this instructor. Very awful and a heartless instructor. "To be forewarned is to be forearmed"
He was very knowledgeable in what he was teaching. He comes off with a better than you attitude and is a very harsh marker. There are weekly journal entries and two papers. I learned a lot from this class, but was not a fan of him.
If you genuinely are interested in getting stressed for fun, and receiving feedback that isn't helpful but rather downright disrespectful, condescending, and rude I highly recommend this class! His attitude towards his students makes it seem like he is working against them rather than wanting them to succeed. good luck :)
This professor didn't seem to care much about what he was teaching and was often unprepared. He's a tough marker, which isn't so bad, but his comments came across as rude and condescending. Worse, I did not learn anything from this professor that I didn't already know. What a waste of time!!!
Ken Wilson was the worst prof I've ever had. He was so rude to everyone in the classroom and would legit degrade you in front of the other students. If you have the option to take this class do not do it, nothing could possible be worse for your self esteem. Also the school won't do anything about him despite the many many complaints to the dean.
Professor Wilson runs a tight ship - mandatory attendance, physical textbooks only, and no leniency for late work. While his grading can be harsh, the feedback is valuable. unstuck ai was a lifesaver for prep, alongside the free course materials. With effort, you can succeed in this challenging but rewarding class.
Not inspiring at all. Boring lectures. Too many assignments and little feedback on assignments. Very long final exams with material not covered in class. Old enough to be retired. Will not be advising anyone else to take his classes.
Professor Wilson has inspired a passion for reading and writing in me that I hadn't experienced for quite some time. I've heard he can be a tough marker, but for me, I've only had good experiences. He's always given great feedback, is available to chat, and can offer plenty of advice on how to improve your work so long as you're willing to listen.
For a first-year course, he demands a level of professional writing that most students have never seen. We are expected to forget the writing methods taught throughout Canadian schooling, while receiving little guidance for the standards he wants. The grading is excessively strict, and the feedback provides no real explanation for the deductions.

Hard grader, don't take this class.
