Strange man, he likes to look up at everyone and stare for a good 30 seconds before he says anything. Attendence is taken every class but you can skip up to 7 times. We had 2 group presentations in which we prepared extensively for just to get B's. Not a hard class but it seems like he just gives you the grade he feels like giving you.

Professor Hopkinson is a fine professor. He doesn't lecture a whole lot and instead tries to have the class discuss the content of the chapter we were instructed to read. We had 2 large group presentations assigned for the entire semester, the groups are randomly selected. I recommend taking individual presentations, groups can be frustrating.

The entire class is group work, so make sure you interact well and positively with your group. His grading is very tedious and he will go out of his way to find something wrong with very basic assignments. The class is not hard, but he grades way harsher than he needs to. There are two big presentations, but they are not hard if you practice.

Kenny is a decent guy but he grade pretty harshly for a gen ed. The assignments seem easy at first but he will mark you down for very small things that he never made clear. The whole class is group work so you have to make sure everyone in the group is working at a good level or it will drag your grade down.

SCOM 123 is ALL group work, so if you get stuck with a group that you don't like it can be tough. His lectures aren't bad and his assignments are pretty redundant so you can figure out how to do them the way he wants you to, but he's a harsh grader on most assignments (including the 2 big presentations that your group has to give).

Tries to push his political beliefs on you constantly, if you don't agree he won't like you and will try to ridicule you in front of the whole class. Makes everyone feel dumb and if you get stuck in a group that doesn't do anything... good luck. Doesn't matter how much you do or don't do in the group, everyone gets graded the same. 0/ 10

This class is all group work, so if you have a good group, then that helps. Kenny is a tough grader for a gened and doesn't give much feedback. Each week there was a lecture, then a group meeting. For every chapter each group prepares part of a class study guide, which I personally never used. There were 2 speeches, 2 exams, and a final.

Professor Hopkinson is a nice guy, but for a basic GenEd this class was unnecessarily hard. There are two speeches for the entire semester with other small grades in between. I'm surprised by these reviews because my experience with Dr. Hopkinson was very good. Anything 90 or above is an A, no +/- system. This was one of the worst classes I have ever taken. The expectations are way too high for a (supposed to be) easy gen-ed. Everyone I know loved SCOM and got an easy A. Not in this class. Grading is way too harsh and he is not accessible nor does he respond to emails when there are genuine issues. DO NOT TAKE.

Professor Hopkinson is awful. He gives too many assignments, with not enough time to complete them, especially if you are in group SCOM. He did not give any feedback on grading and waited until the last day to release them. He goes on such random tangents and stories instead of teaching notes. He does not emphasize reading the textbook at all.

If you want a good grade, you have to grind for it. Overall, nice class, but a lot of work. If you get stuck with a bad group, be ready to do all the work and spend hours on it

Mr. H is a great professor. How much you like the class will depend on your group, but if you get lucky with a great one, the class will be so fun. You need to meet outside of class with them a lot to do the slideshows and the two speeches, but they don't take long once you have a system. Mr. H is funny and will teach you a lot about the world.
