Would recommend avoiding this prof. if possible. I've had him three times and it's been miserable every time. He's rude, doesn't teach the same material the homework is on, and has a horrible grading system that either is only posted on his website or emailed to you. Expect to learn everything on your own, he clearly doesn't know/want to teach.

Professor Hunt is a fine professor he will just make you know a million things for each quiz. There is no point in knowing every single CS styling rule when you can either google them or just look at your notes.

A class that should be easy is made harder than it needs to be. You'll want to memorize every single little thing in this class if you want to do well. Seems like Hunt makes you feel bad or stupid for asking questions. Or acts like he has no idea what you're talking about when you ask a simple question.

You can learn more from free online services than you can from Hunt. Hunt laughs at every question asked his way, over complicates every topic, and prioritizes himself over his students. I walked into a lecture the day after a major assignment was due at midnight the night before to find out when the exam was only to find out it was that same day.

During covid, Hunt created an individual personalized exam for every one of his students. Hunt shares all grades online and students that were getting A's got F's and those getting F's got A's on the exam. He gave us our exam through email and I got mine late. With all the steps he required I only had 35mins for an exam designed to be 55 mins

Professor Hunt does a great job relaying information through his lectures and demonstrates a clear understanding of the topics. He understands that students are there to learn and gives plenty of examples of the information being learned. Most people that don't enjoy his class do not ask questions, so don't be afraid to go to his office hours!

My #1 complaint with this class is the tests. Over half the class never had time to complete a test. If you spend more than 20 seconds thinking about the problem you should move on as you won't have time to answer it. Overall he is an ok teacher but those tests are completely unreasonable.

Dr. Hunt's style of teaching did not work for me at all. His lectures are a general overview of the content, but if you want to pass you need to ask a lot of questions and be very good at researching stuff on your own, because he holds you to professional standards on homework and exams. It's good life experience but it can feel unfair at times.

Lectures are dense. He made multiple corrections on assignments right up to the due date. Do not except him to know what he is asking in his assignments. He will need to read his own documentation to get up to speed in class. Tests cannot be finished in a class period. Enjoys making things difficult.

Really bad experience. Hunt is easily one of the toughest graders, with sometimes half the class getting below a C, along with being disrespectful to his students. If you want to even get a decent grade, expect to work long hours over many weeks. Assignments are often confusing and may not even be relevant to class material.

Dr. Hunt has not taught this class in nearly 10 years and I understand why. He is aloof. Often presents bugged code in slides or assignments. Class website is not up-to-date. The syllabus lacks detail clarity. Seems to not enjoy teaching. Content is respectfully difficult, however he makes it more so. The man is clearly smart, he just doesn't care.

HONEST: Dr hunt is a funny guy if you get to know him, but him as a professor wasn't the best. Quizzes were difficult, and for a starter class was discouraging. I know many people dropped/failed the class and sometimes he would laugh at students if they would ask questions.

This professor just doesn't seem to care about what they are teaching. He is stuck in his ways and refused to make a canvas page which makes it so much worse for both parties. Multiple times when asked a question during class he just responds I don't know and then doesn't seem to care to learn. Maybe its just this class but holy it is unbearable.

My specific FYS section was all about religion. We primarily went over Christianity, as you could tell he was the most educated on that. Each week we would have a short fairly easy 10 question quiz. The class itself as long as you show up is fairly easy, however, honestly his responses to students who arent correct would often feel extremely rude

The topic Dr. Hunt decided to teach for FYS is religions and philosophies of the world. He is not very understanding for those that were not raised with religion and so they don't know simple christian terms or stories. This course has a 10 point quiz every week and there is a lot of outside reading of sacred religious books. Good luck

The FYS was specifically on religion, heavily Christianity and reading the bible EVERY class. We had a 10 point quiz weekly on what we read and definitions. Taking quizzes on the bible feels very subjective, I struggled every week as he is a tough grader and felt he took off points for things I was doing correctly. FYS should not be this difficult.

Class was all about the Bible and would just do readings from it every class. Quizzes every week which I thought were challenging even though I took notes in class and did the readings. Easily the worst FYS professor. Class is structured to read from the bible, and then have weekly in-class 10 point quizzes. The quizzes are extremely specific and VERY hard. Not a nice professor either. The class is structured almost to where you already need to know the material beforehand. No other FYS professor is nearly this hard, DO NOT TAKE!!

If you don't know the bible, you won't do good in this class. For a first year seminar class, it was so unnecessarily difficult. Quizzes every single week about the bible. If you aren't taking a quiz, he's talking about the bible and makes his opinions very clear. You can tell who he likes and doesn't. Would not take again.

He only lectures and gives no labs. Weekly tests are a very good chunk of your grade and tough unless you study a lot outside class. From what i've read, dont take him for FYS. But as a CS major? He's a perfectly fine teacher and he explains things very well. If you participate do the work and try in his class he appreciates that and will show it. Homework load for a entry level class is kinda nuts 7 - 8 hours on 1 assignment but you get a week to do them though. 8 / 10.

FYS-100 is supposed to be an easy A for students but he did not make it an easy A. 10 point quizzes weekly, all open-ended and graded precisely.
