I took Eternal Family from Brother Brooks and he is the best religion professor I have had so far. 4 tests, you know exactly what's on them, 4 papers 1 page each and he tells you exactly what to write and easy grader. He really really wants his students to be edified by the spirit and look to form righteous relationships! PLEASE TAKE 200 FROM HIM!
Professor Brooks is my favorite professor so far. He is so nice and he genuinely cares about all of his students. His tests are very similar to the study guides, but you need to attend class to get all of the information for the study guides as he doesn't post his powerpoints online. Despite that, it's an easy class and very interesting.
Brother Brooks is a PHENOMENAL teacher who really cares about his students, and is super funny and understanding. Make sure you go to class - ALL test answers are given in lecture. Fill out the study questions in class and glance over them before the test and you'll get an A! There are 3 easy papers, 2 midterms, and a final. Best religion teacher.
This was my favorite class I've taken at BYU! Brother Brooks is an exceptional teacher and his class is very spiritually enhancing. Tests are easy and taken straight from the study guide. Powerpoints aren't posted, so make sure to come to class. Lectures are amazing! All talks in the textbook can be found online. Best class I've ever taken!
Bro. Brooks was awesome! I loved our class discussions. The test is exactly like the study guide, but he doesn't post his powerpoints so you do have to go to class. Easiest class I will probably ever have, and it was spiritually enriching as well!
I love Professor Brooks! He is the happiest and sweetest guy. I would take a class from him again. He is passionate about what he teaches and makes the doctrine easy to understand.
Very easy religion class. He gives you the study guides before the class even starts. Tests are only off of those study guide questions. Valuable discussions in class. He was an MFT, so he is really knowledgeable in this area. Almost all the readings from the packet can be found by googling the talks.
Awesome, humorous, inspiring lectures. Easy material. Spiritually edifying without the frustrating elements of some religion courses. A solid choice for The Eternal Family GE. You won't stress over the class at all.
Prof. Brooks is the best religion teacher I've had. Tests are easy, and he doesn't just throw his interpretations of the scriptures at you like they are doctrine. The other teachers I've had seemed to share either abstract insights that did not increase my faith at all or obvious insights that made me feel like I was wasting my time in class.
Dr. Brooks changed my life for the better. I'd take this class every semester if I could.
He is confident in what he teaches and never shies away from a controversial topic. I appreciate his candor. WARNING: don't take this course as a seventeen year old. I wish that I could be taught these things when I am closer to marriage and family phase of life.
Brother Brooks is a very experienced professor and professional in marriage counseling. If you actually want to learn about family and marriage, Brother Brooks is a great teacher to learn from.
This is what a BYU religion class should be. It doesn't kill you with papers due every week. You study the guide for the 4 exams and a 1-page essay due each month
Easiest religion class I've every had. While attendance isn't mandatory you will do very well if you go to class. His lectures are inspirational and he knows what he's teaching. If you don't go to class the tests are still passable but you have to do some deep reading. Would recommend to anybody.
I liked him a lot. His tests were a bit hard because some things he didn't go over int class, but he'd change the grade after if you told him.
Eternal families was awesome with Dr. Brooks. His background in marriage and family counselling really gives him authority on the subject. If you show up to class and have a pulse, you're almost guaranteed an A in the class. But, if that's all you're there for then you missed the mark of the class. Plenty of time for self-reflection and improvement
This is the best religion class I have taken at BYU. It's the perfect balance of intellectual and spiritual learning. Brother Brooks is a great teacher and you leave the class feeling spiritually uplifted every time. The class is incredibly easy and you don't need to stress about it, which is the way religion classes should be. Highly recommended.
He's probably the nicest professor ever. I loved his class. It was easy to understand what he expected. He's a humble guy too, if there's something wrong with the test, he'll accept it and adjust grades.
I LOVED THIS CLASS! He is the best religion professor at BYU. Go to class, fill out the study guide, spend one hour (tops) studying for the midterm/final and you'll ace the class. I will never take religion from anyone else again. His classes are easy AND inspiring. Felt the spirit every single class. LOVED the lectures. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!
Prof. Brooks definitely is a caring and spiritual guy. This class just wasn't my favorite. While it was an easy A, I didn't always love his perspectives and content. He does have a good background in family counseling but with some of the doctrinal content, it felt like we had to memorize the doctrine of Brother Soper to succeed on tests.
I took Eternal Families from Professor Brooks and I wish I could take a class from him every semester!! He is such a sweet man and really knows what he is talking about and truly knows how to bring the spirit to the class- I found my self in tears on more than one occasion!
Brother Brooks was a good religion professor. He had a very clear syllabus so I knew exactly what to expect for the whole course. He also had good insights and the material we covered was worth while and useful. The tests are based on the reading and the lectures. They were very easy if you read and went to class. I recommend him for the class.
He really cares about the students. Very easy A. Got 100% on all papers and I cranked them out in 30 minutes. To ace the tests, just go over the quizlets. Honestly, it's kind of silly how easy the class is. But the more you put into it, the more you get out. He counted a paper I turned in an hour late. He really wants you to do well.
Brother Brooks is THEE BEST. Seriously. Clear grading, tells you what to study and answers all questions in class. Tests are easy. His class was always packed and so many came that weren't even in the class but just wanted to hear his lessons and advice. TAKE THIS CLASS.
I've never had a professor quite like Brother Brooks. He's one of the most caring men I've ever met! He truly loves his class as individuals and is willing to help out as best as he can when one has a problem whether it be personal or a doctrinal question. He will never make you feel dumb for stating your opinion. He's true to the doctrine!
If you want to memorize scriptures, write a bunch of papers, or stress about test, this is not the class for you. If you want to go to a religion class that is inspirational, spiritual, and stress free, then take a class from Brooks. He gives a list of study questions that will be on the test, then goes over each question in class.
I adore Professor Brooks. His Eternal Families class changed my life, and I mean that sincerely. Attendance isn't mandatory, but you should go, because it will benefit you so much in the long run. Easy A.
If you go to class and fill out the study questions (which are essentially the test) you'll do great. I learned a lot from Brother Brooks about the topic. He is a former marriage counselor so he knows his stuff. Would recommend to anyone looking for a religion class that isn't out to kill you.
Best religion professor at BYU. Take any class you can from him. This is how religion courses should be taught.
I love Brother Brooks. Take any religion class you can from him. He really knows how to teach religion so that you learn and grow, but you're not swamped with unnecessary projects that don't have anything to do with actually living the Gospel. Take his class! You won't regret it!
Honestly, I was super disappointed by this course. The material was simple and while brother Brooks doesn't shy away from difficult issues like homosexuality and gender equality, he glosses over them without appreciating the full depth and difficulty of those issues. He didn't understand my questions and responded as if I had asked something else.
Dr. Brooks' class is nothing special. I did not like the way that he went about teaching sensitive topics. His tests are vaguely worded.
This class was mostly busy work. Lectures were occasionally interesting and/or inspiring. Some of the questions on the tests were stupid and not relevant to anything, but he gives you a study guide so they're easy. Four 1.5-page papers. I never did the readings. All things considered this class is an easy "A".
I love Brother Brooks!!!! His class is how a religion class should be - very inspirational, not a lot of work. He uses a study guide which you fill out in class, and the test is straight from the guide. Show up, and study. There are also four 2-page papers, but they take maybe 30 minutes to write. I'm taking him for eternal families in the fall!!!
It was an okay class. He often claimed "science" backed his opinions but most of it was just popularized science backing one religious point of view
Brother Brooks is very knowledgable and his lectures were interesting, practical, and even funny. He's a sweetheart of a person and his tests were the exact study guide. Papers were graded super easily as long as you did them and he never checks on the readings or takes roll. A spiritual, but easy class -- just the way a religion class should be.
Very organized and if you fill out the study guides you'll do really well. He's a great and knowledgeable professor and appreciates each student's comments. It's easy to feel the Spirit and learn and not too hard to do well in the class. I would love to take all my religion classes from Brother Brooks!
Brother Brooks was great! He was always kind and thoughtful. He tried to be down to Earth with everyone even though it was a huge lecture class. The tests were all based on the lectures so make sure you take notes on every slide. He gives you fair warning for that though. Study your notes for the tests and you'll do great.
Dr. Brooks is the BEST! His class is inspiring, and it's also such an easy A. It's exactly what a religion class should be.
I went to class for the first three weeks and then quit attending. I got an A-. Had I tried, I might have gotten an A. Super easy, and the professor seems cool.
Brother Brooks is a PHENOMENAL teacher. He gives you the study guide, answers your questions, and then makes his test the study guide. There are never any surprises. I wish I could take every religion class from Brother Brooks!
Professor Brooks is AMAZING! I absolutely LOVED his class and I learned so much. If you go to class, pay attention, and follow along with the study guide he gives you, you are guaranteed to get a good grade in the class. I would highly recommend making friends that will share what was covered in class though- that will help if you miss class
He goes a bit out of canonized doctrine in his lectures, and he lectures in a voice that is patronizing and uninspiring. I would recommend getting religion credit from institute classes if you can. His was my fourth and last religion class taken at BYU. Institute offers more inspiring, less time consuming classes for the same credits.
Brother Brooks is probably the best religion professor I have ever had. His class is very organized and straight forward. There are attendance quizzes but there are super easy as long as you go to class. Honestly the easiest religion class I have taken, but also the one I have gotten the most out of. Highly recommend Brother Brooks!
Awesome, doesn't try and blast through material but takes his time and makes sure that the lecture is done right and you can pay attention. Uses a study guide to follow along with his lecture, he answers them in class and if you aren't in class you won't have the answer but they are really similar to the tests, so if you have the answers you pass.
He does these attendance quiz's where even if you go to class you can still fail pretty easy. The study guide is basically the test so technically if you go to class you know the answers.. but you can also just go on quizlet and look up the "byu brooks D&C exam #" and find it so you don't really need to go to class.
Brother Brooks is, by far, my favorite religion professor at BYU. He cares about his students, he has done in-depth research on every lecture, and his class is EASY. Go to class and there's no way you won't get an A. He gives you EVERY test answer, and his papers are graded incredibly easily. Best class for ease + testimony builder.
He is such a humble, intelligent, and caring teacher. His class was the best part of this semester.
The only reason you need to go to class is to take the daily quiz. He gives you the test questions before every test and you fill out the answers in class. Inspirational lecturer, I only fell asleep once in class.
He is a pretty solid teacher. You can definitely tell that he really cares about his students. And even though the class was kind of easy, he teaches a lot of things that are really applicable to real life. I might not take it again, but would totally audit it to hear some of the lectures again.
Prof. Brooks is the easiest religion professor ever. You have about 4 papers but they're basically for completion. There's a 2 question quiz after each lecture about what we talked about in lecture, but it's possible to pass them without going to class. His study guides are exactly the test, you just need to go to class to fill out the answer.
If you read through the reviews, the only students that grade him poorly are those that don't agree with what he teaches. The class covers controversial topics including gay marriage, dating practices, etc. Very inspirational if you pay attention. Test come with study guide that include every question on it.
I LOVED THIS CLASS. Brother Brooks is such a caring and funny individual. He is so knowledgeable about the family and how it relates to the gospel. I would take all religion classes from him if I could. You have to go to class to take the attendance quiz. As long as you put some effort into the assignments you will do well.
I love Brother Brooks! His lectures are so full of good advice, I loved going to his class. I don't like it when students blame the teacher for not building their testimony, don't ever expect to come into a religion class for a free testimony, it's about learning the doctrine. Build your testimony outside of class. Brother Brooks knows the doctrine
Brother Brooks is great! His class is very easy. The exam is the study guide, however, study harder for the final because you really need to know the details of the study guide. Just do the assignments ahead of time to not forget and it's an easy A!
Hands down Brother Brooks was the best religion professor I've ever had. He was inspiring and focused on the spiritual aspect of the class, but there was still a good mix of academics too. Fill out the study guide in class - ALL test questions are from that. Easy papers every 2 weeks. Overall, you get to just enjoy the gospel rather than stressing.
Brother Brooks is the one of the best professors I have ever had. His lectures are amazing--always interesting. He gives a study guide that is very easy to fill out if you do the reading and attend class and the tests are taken directly from the study guides. He is hilarious and always open for questions from students.
Just go to class and take good notes. His study guides are literally the exam, just rearranged. I loved going to lecture because he kept discussions interesting and engaging. You could tell that he was a really loving and caring guy and he always made the effort to try and get to know people, despite having massive classes
Great funny teacher. Spiritual, has great stories. Grading is very clear from the beginning and if you follow the study guide it's an easy A. Sometimes I would say his presentations seems a little rote but the material is wonderful and classes are fun and easy. Would strongly recommend, learned a ton.
Brother Brooks is such a cool guy. It's pretty important you go because he takes attendance through a 2 question quiz. Tests are a BREEZE: he has a document that you download of like 10 questions a day that you answer in reading and in lecture and then those are the questions given on tests. A few writing assignments but they're pretty easy.
Professor Brooks is amazing! It is easy to get an A. There are 4 exams including the final. The "final" is not comprehensive. A reflection assignment is due every two weeks but super easy and not graded hard at all. He gives you a study guide for every exam that basically has all the questions. Do those and you will do fine on the exams.
Bro. Brooks gives great lectures! I was always excited to go to class. There are small attendance quizzes, the assignments actually build you, and tests come straight from the study guide. I always felt the spirit and learned a lot that was actually applicable to my life. I would 100 percent take again. This class DE-stressed me.
Great professor, great lectures. He is very easy; you need to show up to class because that's where you'll get the information to fill out the study guide (he doesn't post powerpoints), but the study guide is very specific and completely comprehensive. There are four small papers and some other assignments but he is an easy grader so no worries.
He is amazing, this is my second semester with him. You really don't need to do anything to get an A, the class is super easy from him. I wouldn't take him again though because I get less out of classes I don't have to work for, and you REALLY don't have to work for this class. But I am so thankful for him to help boost my GPA when I needed it.
Easiest class I've taken. He gives you the study guides for each exam. He answers every question during class so you just fill it out. Then the exams only have questions from the study guides. The papers were graded really easy. I think I spent 17 minutes on the final exam. So chill.
As long as you fill out the study guide and memorize it, you will get a good grade on the tests. Lectures are kind of boring. Daily quizzes are kind of hard... even when I payed attention (the quizzes aren't worth much though). He's a very kind teacher. Doesn't accept late work.
I only went to class twice and still would have gotten an A had I not forgotten to turn one of the papers in.
Not sure why so many people recommend this guy. He has a very monotone voice which makes it easy to fall asleep or be distracted. Not really different that my other Religion professors. You have to write several papers which are pretty pointless and you have daily quizzes on LS. As far as exams, you can find all the study guide answers online.
Brooks was an incredible professor. He worked so hard to make his class interesting and spiritual. His testimony and stories just make you smile. I loved this class so much and highly recommend!!!!
I can't say enough about Brother Brooks. This was my second class with him and I wish I could take every class from him. Definitely more spiritual focused than academic. There are papers and essays but you'll get 100% if you attempt them at all. Tests are based 100% off of the study guide. Structure of class is so you can focus on the spirit.
Professor Brooks is fantastic! His class is designed to be really easy so you can focus on receiving personal revelation, which is awesome. You have to write several papers but they are for completion and don't take more than an hour to complete. All exam Q's are from a study guide you fill out in class.
Prof Brooks is a super safe choice for a religion class. It's incredibly easy, the essays are basically just for completion, and he gives you the study guide (aka the test itself) at the beginning of the semester. It can be spiritual if you want it to be, but also pretty boring at times. Fortunately he is really funny, and that keeps it bearable.
I loved Brother Brooks! He is an amazing educator and I learned so much from this class. I felt the spirit in every class and many of the lectures were very touching and applicable to my life. The assignments are simple if you follow the instructions and the tests are easy if you fill out the study guide! I couldn't recommend this class more!!
I really liked Professor Brooks because he really cares about his students. His tests are really easy because he gives you the study guide and that is basically what's on the test. I would totally take another one of his classes. Make sure you do they daily quizzes & do the reading, and you'll be fine.
FYI this is basically marriage prep. It was a good class and extremely easy as far as religion classes go. He's a nice guy and the material was good. If you want to make sure you get an A in a religion class go with Brooks.
Professor Brooks is a kind man, but his class was a disappointment. The organization of his class is meaningless. It seems like most of the time he just throws his personal opinions together and then tests you on it. It's a course where you do mindless assignments, memorize non-sensical information for a test, and then immediately forget it all.
Professor Brooks is a nice person. However this was not the class I was expecting. It involved a lot of memorization that I found difficult applying to real life. I am not taking what I wanted to get from this class. It is easy to get an A but this class does not have a positive lasting impact on life.
He is a good guy. I took the class to learn about doctrine and principles concerning the family. However, the class was a lot of memorization of facts from talks in General Conference. He mingled his personal views with the standard class material.
Okay guys, Brother Brooks is THE BEST! This was by far my favorite religion class here at BYU. Brooks is so inspirational and the Spirit is so strong in his classroom. He is super easy with grading the papers you have due every couple weeks. Also, there are daily attendance quizzes, but they are easy if you go to class!
I loved taking D&C from Brother Brooks. This was one of my favorite classes!
Brooks is WONDERFUL! Highly recommend taking EF from him. He provides all the information needed for the tests. I looked forward to his lectures. Best religion class and teacher I have taken from at BYU. Take EF from him. (Class is easy, so his A is a 96 and A- is 92. You can't forget an assignment or slip up on a test, but it's easy to get an A-
Brooks is exactly the kind of religion professor BYU needs more of. Feel the Spirit, get a good grade, peace. You read the scriptures outside class for part of test questions, and very basic gospel principles discussed in class for test material as well. I enjoyed the case study assignments that got me thinking of how to solve marital problems.
Dr. Brooks really knows his stuff. He has great insights into marriage with his background in counseling. He gives you a study guide to help for tests and has attendance quizzes. I loved his lectures. The only down side is a 96% is an A which is tough to get if you don't focus the whole semester. I missed the cut off by .5%, but he's a great person
Dr. Brooks is awesome! It's very hard not to respect him because you can tell that he is so passionate and knowledgeable about the family. His class is a breeze and as long as you don't forget to do any of the assignments, you'll easily get an A. My only gripe are the his lectures could be a little dry at times, but overall a great choice!
Prof Brooks is an awesome Eternal Families teacher! His lectures are mandatory because you fill out a study guide that becomes your test study guide. Everything on the study guide is on the test so if you study it well, you will do great! His lectures are uplifting with such great information!
Loved his lectures! He cares and loves what he is teaching. There are 4 essays and 4 application activities, but you can easily write them in 1 hour. Every class has a participation quiz - which usually makes 100% anyways. 4 non-accumulative exams. He has study questions for every class that are the exact same questions on the exam. Super easy!
Absolutely terrible. The least constructive class I've had a BYU. Yes his class is easy, but he takes an ultra conservative approach to controversial issues, and can't seem to give up on the 1950s nuclear family structure.
Brother Brooks is super nice! His class was an easy A if you pay attention in class. He is honestly a genuine caring person who wants the absolute best for his students. Overall he's just such a good human being and is a good example and person to talk to.
This class was pretty easy. The only notes that we had to take were off the study guide and then small notes for the attendance quizzes. There are a few papers but those are mainly participation based. The tests are harder than I thought but just study and youll do fine. His grading curve is weird because below a 96% is an A- and below 94% is a B.
Brother Brooks is the man! Really interesting class and easy assignments that teach you a lot. His tests are really similar to the study guide and are mostly memorization so as long as you review those you'll do really well on the exams. I'd definitely recommend to anyone.
He's a great lecturer and I get why so many students love him, but I felt like there was so much busy work for a religion class. The readings were fine, but there were a bunch of tedious essays and stuff. If you don't mind doing that, you'll love him. He gives a study guide you fill out each class, and that's got all the questions on the tests.
Everyone needs to take a class from Professor Brooks!!! He is SO amazing and brings the spirit into his lectures every class. His exams are word for word the study guide he gives you so they are easy if you memorize them. Seriously, the best professor I have had at BYU!!!
He is one of the best religion professor on campus. He is sooooo funny and really relates well to his students. He grades on completion, so if you go to class and just turn something in you will get full credit. Tests are a breeze because he gives you all the questions before hand. By far my favorite prof. at BYU so far.
Brother Brooks is very caring and brings the Spirit for every lecture. He was always prepared and helped me learn things I never knew before. There are quite a bit or readings and a paper due every week, but he is a very easy grader. He also provides a study guide with questions that are exactly like the exams, so if you do it, the exams are easy.
His study guides are weirdly specific or VERY vague. Therefore, you don't know what he's looking for and can't prepare for the test as well as you hope to. If you get 100% on all of your assignments and get 89%s on the tests, you won't get an A. I had a 95.8% in the class and it was an A-. It's ridiculous.
Pretty easy class! Professor Brooks is very knowledgeable and shares cool info. The first 1/3 of the semester is pretty boring, but the topics get more applicable and interesting as the semester goes on. He's also pretty funny sometimes! Pretty easy class, but an A ends at 96% so don't miss turning in any assignments! (He's not a tough grader.)
Dr Brooks was an incredible religion professor! His class structure is very organized, so you know exactly what you are getting. If you prepare for class, show up, pay attention, and answer the test questions that he gives you, you will do well in this class and benefit greatly from his perspective!
Brother Brookss study guide for Mission Prep was basically the test, so DO THE STUDY GUIDES! He is so kind and considerate, he even let me submit a couple things a day late when I forgot they were due. He truly demonstrates what it means to be a disciple of Christ. I cant wait to have him again next semester for Eternal Families.
Professor Brooks is so great, I am taking more religion classes from him next semester. The study guide is word for word the test. He is so understanding for late work and is so kind. Genuinely loves his students. An easy class and really uplifiting
Brother Brooks is the best. His lectures are so interesting. His tests are fair. I could listen to him all day. I learned so much from his class.
Brother Brooks is amazing! I took his class for mission prep and left everyday feeling excited for my mission! I love him so much, I'm taking enteral families from him next semester. His tests come straight from the study guide, so it is not too difficult. If you are ever confused, he is more than happy to talk with you about it.
I loved Professor Brooks! I had him for Eternal Families and loved the way he taught it. He is so kind and caring and actually really funny! He does give a 2 question quiz on the material lectured on that day so going to class is pretty mandatory.
Brother Brooks cares a lot about everyone in his class and goes over the material very thoroughly. At the beginning of the semester, he gives you all his test questions and you just have to pay attention to his lectures and he makes the answers very clear. Lectures are a bit dry at times, but tests, papers, and assignments are an easy 100.
Brother Brooks' class is an easy A. It is also a really uplifting class. Basically just do some attendance quizzes, write a few easy essays (he almost always gives full credit), and take the unit tests. The tests are exactly what is on the study guide and the final is not comprehensive.
Professor Brooks class was a great way to feel the spirit and not stress too much. It was an easy A, tests were fair and study guides were created to model the test. I 10/10 recommend taking this class from him, there are daily attendance quizzes that end up cushioning your grade if you go to class and assignments are based off completion.
Nice enough guy, kind of boring class. Not terribly inspirational, seemed pretty opinion based. 96% is an A, so there's not a whole lot of wiggle room, but the tests are verbatim from the study questions.
Tests are memorizing study guides very closely. Essays and case studies throughout semester with daily quizzes from class lecture so you can't skip.
Lots of assignments but I'm pretty sure he grades on completion. You need a 96% in the class to get an A so if you miss even one assignment you're down to an A-.
Your basic filler Religion class. Wasn't super inspiring by any means, but the class is easy and the teacher is kind. Easy A
Brother Brooks is so amazing! There are attendance quizzes after every class, 4 case studies, I think like 3-4 papers (they are so easy and im pretty sure you get an automatic 100), and 4 exams including the final. you can literally find the same exam questions from the study questions he gives you on quilt. As long as you study that you'll be fine
Brother Brooks cares about his students and wants to make sure his class is enjoyable and uplifting rather than stressful and overwhelming. There is a lot of reading but it's cool stuff from church leaders. He provides a great study guide to help with the tests. There are a few papers but the outlines are clear.
He will not changed grades if you slack off (as described in the syllabus). If you go to class and do the readings (I would just fill out the test study guide as it was answered in class), the tests are pretty easy, pretty much exactly the study guide. Hes a super nice professor and very very caring.
Brother Brooks really cares about his students. The study guide is basically whats on the test. The tests were really easy and just listen in class and fill out the study guide. Overall great class and he's really nice.
Brooks is a sweet man, but this class is the gospel interpreted by Brother Brooks. Overall, his class was an extremely uncomfortable experience. He often made off-handed comments that seemed sexist, ill-informed, or apathetic. I tried to stay receptive to the spirit in his class, but the environment he created made it hard to stay open-minded.
Brother Brooks was a great teacher. My only beef was that I took his Mission Prep class, attended every class period, but I don't really feel like it prepped me for a mission. It was basically just a doctrine class - very few role plays, no companionship activities, etc. Most of the assignments felt like busy work.
If you're wanting an easy religion class, this is your guy. I enjoyed his class, but sometimes it was a little boring. Still, Brother Brooks is a really nice person and he doesn't make this class hard at all.
His Eternal Family class is really easy to get an A in. His tests are straight off the study guide so just memorize that. He can be a little boring at times, but he cares about his students and I'm glad I took his class.
Took it in the fall. Went to class once after mid October and made an A. Only bad thing is an A is a 96 or above.
Easy A. Not incredibly enlightening & uncomfortable at times.
Brother Brooks is so nice. I went on vacation for a week and he was just happy for me. Gave me all the lecture material and told me to go have fun. Tests are based exactly on the study guides that he gives and he goes through the study guide each day in class. Easiest A on campus, but he is a great teacher.
I would not recommend taking this class for mission prep. although his tests are based on the study guides, he does not give appropriate information in class to help. If you are looking for an easy A and good lessons I would find a different professor. To be honest I do not feel more prepared for a mission.
By far the best religion professor that I have had at BYU. This is the second class I have taken from brother Brooks and I promise that you will love it. You will learn a lot, feel the spirit, and get an A if you meet the basic requirements. Take this class from bother Brooks!!
Good class but kind of boring. Easy to get an A if you do all of the assignment, although if you miss even one you're already down to a B+ (speaking from experience here). Daily online attendance quizzes assure that everyone attends class. Papers and essays are easy, just get them done and you'll get a perfect grade.
Dr. Brooks knows what he is talking about and the class is not too difficult. For an A you need to get a 96, but don't let that scare you. For all the papers almost everyone gets a 100 and the study guide tells you what you need for the tests. Because it was easier, it helped me focus on learning and developing spiritually
Brother Brooks really cares about his students and wants our classes to be spiritual experiences. His assignments are really easy. Make sure to go to the lectures so that you can get the answers to his daily attendance quizzes. Pay attention and take notes because he won't post slides that we covered in class. I had a great time in his class!
Brother Brooks is a good teacher, but I don't really like the grading structure. An A is 96, so you pretty much have to get 100% on all the assignments, which you can get as long as you do them. You need to read the Book of Mormon for 30 minutes a day, which is hard. Make sure you do it consistently from the beginning or it will hurt your grade.
I was not super excited about this class when I signed up, but I needed the credit. I actually ended up learning a lot and enjoying the class. You're pretty much guaranteed to get 100% on the assignments if you follow the rubric and the tests are exactly like the study guides (just make sure you are filling out the study guide in class) Easy A.
Professor Brooks is a very caring professor who really cares about his students. His class, however, was not my favorite. Most of the work felt like busy work and we were required to read 30 minutes of the Book of Mormon every day in addition to other class readings with a 96% is an A. He is an easy grader though and tests are extremely manageable.
Easiest class Ive taken at BYU. He gives you a study guide with all possible questions on each test, and the answers come from class. Lectures were slow and hard to pay attention sometimes, but good other times. He definitely cares and hes a great guy. Would definitely take again.
Love thsi man and his classes! Kind & loving guy who doesn't care about grades as much as his students. Learned great tips for marriage! To get an A: fill out study guide from lecture & memorize those for tests. Just do the assignments according to rubric and you'll get 100%. The cut off for an A i high-- 96 or 97 usually, but it's way manageable.
Brother Brooks is a great teacher. He gives really spiritual lessons. His class is really structured. The exams are basically the questions on the study guide he gives you. You MUST go to class to get answers on the study guide. Assignments are easy A's. 96% for an A, so you don't have that much room for error. Need to memorize study guide for exam
Brooks is super super kind and will help you out if you're struggling. I literally missed a deadline for a test and he let me come take it at his office and then graded it by hand. Show up for his lectures which he prepares well because attendance is mandatory. Tests aren't hard.
Extremely nice and helpful
Brother Brooks is incredible. He makes this class so easy but rewarding. Don't take it from anyone else! You have to show up to class and fill in the blanks for the study guide, but it's smooth sailing from there. Easiest class ever. Most spiritual class ever.
Not a hard class - literally just show up and fill out the study guide and memorize it for the tests. The cutoff for an A is high, but as long as you turn in all the essays/case studies and do decent on the tests you will be fine. The content is very old-school and can be narrow-minded, but it's a required class so you don't have much of a choice
Tests were super easy if you do the study questions. Never studied for more than an hour for a test because they are just super straight forward and you are given exactly what you need to know
Professor Brooks is a great teacher; he cares about his students, he clearly and effectively teaches course material, and his lessons invite the Spirit. I enjoyed his class. Part of this class includes reading the Book of Mormon each day, which is fantastic mission prep. The tests follow the study guide-- assigned talks contain study guide answers.
Loved Professor Brooks, I would take his class again in a heartbeat. Without a doubt the most kind and understanding professor I've had.
Bro. Brooks is super sweet and caring. Lectures are boring and a little old-fashioned, but the class is an easy A (tests are exactly like the study guide). Attendance is mandatory as you can only get the attendance quiz answers from the lecture. Overall a great professor who I would definitely take another class from.
Good professor, daily attendance quizzes make up a solid portion of grade.
Very understanding with accommodations. If you want to truly feel the Spirit do the reading, answer questions from your reading before class, then finish last unanswered questions during class, bring a comfortable laptop, write quickly and short answers. Say a personal prayer before class, sit in front of class, avoid distraction. Follow his eyes.
Tons of tests. Requires 96% for an A. Only class I've ever had that requires that percentage. He also disables messaging between students during the semester. Ridiculous. Assignments are easy, and if you do them, you pass. However, tests are long and bait you into wrong answers. Attendance quizzes are required everyday, no exception.
Professor Brooks has good lectures, and there are daily quizzes given about the lecture material that you can't really take without being present in lecture. He says that all of the exams are based on a study guide, but I still miss around 10 points per exam after memorizing everything on the study guide, so beware.
Professor Brooks is outstanding, by far one of the best religion teachers I've ever had. The study guides are the exact questions on the test, and he literally highlights quiz answers on his slides so that you don't miss them. Super fair and all he cares about is that his students feel the Spirit.
I took professor Brooks' missionary preparation class. I was regularly finding myself, inspired to be a better man, motivated to do what is right, and uplifted from the stress and anxiety that college usually creates. One of my favorite professors for sure.
His Eternal Families class was so easy. Didn't try on any writing assignments but got all 100s, didn't pay attention in class except for when he showed the answer to the attendance quiz and got 100s on all of those, then used quizlet to study for tests. I don't know how someone would say its hard, just put minimal effort and youll get an A
I took Bro Brooks for Mission Prep. It was the easiest class ever. A 96 percent is an A but everything is graded super generously and the tests are exactly like the study guide. That being said, the class wasn't very interactive and I wish we got some practice teaching or something. He is nice but I didn't learn anything. Super easy A though.
Dr. Brooks is the best teacher. He is really spiritual and cares about all of his students. His class is also super easy. He has an online quiz you have to take everyday for attendance but as long as you go to class he'll show you the answer. I got a lot out of his lessons and would take this class again.
It's a 96% A. If you can memorize things easily than this is an easy class for you. You have 4 exams, and each has a 7-page study guide that you fill out during the lectures. Not hard but definitely not through provoking. There are 6-9 short essays and I did them all in about 4 hours. Not a hard class but not a good one either
Tests and essays are extremely easy, as long as you show up and fill out notes. Good lectures and an overall nice guy!
Grades consist of syllabus quiz, attendance quiz, 2 essays, application activities, 4 case studies, 4 exams, and student rating at the end. An A is a 95 so that can be frustrating but I did the minimum and still got an A. Tests questions come from study guide, finals not comprehensive, and he stars the answers to attendance quizzes on his slides
Amazing teacher and a great lecturer! Brings the Spirit to every lesson. The tests are literally just the study guide questions so do those. Don't forget to read the assigned talks and scriptures because questions from those (which are on the study guide) are on the tests. Easy A! 10 out of 10 would recommend!
Professor Brooks runs his class kind of like a professional relationship advice forum. He's a licensed therapist, and it shows (in a positive way). He is always available to help students with personal problems, too. He tests straight off of learning objectives (find the quizlets!!). IF YOU'RE A NONMEMBER TELL HIM AND HE'LL HELP WITH YOUR GRADES!!
Brother Brooks taught my very favorite class this semester. He always brings the spirit and leaves you feeling inspired. There is a daily attendance quiz that he gives you the answers to if you go to class. He has a study guide that you can fill out for each exam and it has almost identical answers as the actual test. Highly recommend his class!
I didn't get as much out of this class as I wanted to because I didn't pay attention to most lectures. However this class was incredibly easy (quizlet is your friend).
Great class! He is also super available to help students on a personal level. He has great assignments, but it's up to you to apply what you learn. I think the tests exist just because they have to. Just memorize the study guide. The class is set up to learn, not just pass.
Everything except tests was literally a completion grade. I went to class four times and studied lazily on Quizlet the reviews that he provides. He's a great guy. I had a busy semester and forgot to turn something in, emailed him in a class of 1000, and he was totally understanding. I had issues with some test questions about gender, but it's BYU.
Brother Brooks' class is easy, but enjoyable. It's a nice break from your other stressful classes where you can be entertained and feel the spirit.
He makes the class sound a lot harder than it actually is. All of his "big" assignments were ones I could easily do the day before it was due. His lectures are great, and I almost always walked away feeling uplifted--not something I expected from an Eternal Families class.
Brother Brooks explained at the very beginning of the class that he doesn't want his class to be hard. He provided a study guide that had all the questions that would be on the exam. We had about 8 assignment but as long as you meet length requirements you will get full credit. This class was spiritually enlightening and easy enough to appreciate.
Professor Brooks is very funny and nice. In his class, there are daily quizzes to take attendance that are very hard to nail unless you have attended class. He is very clear about what he wants the assignments to look like and he is not a tough grader. The exams are easy if you memorize the study questions.
He isnt the greatest teacher but his class was inspirational. Kind of boring to sit there every day and listen to a PowerPoint. But a very easy class and doable.
Bro. Brooks is a fantastic Professor. He has a ton of experience and knows what he is talking about. The information is interesting and really applicable to real life. There is a quiz each day that he gives you the answer to if you attend the lecture but I never wanted to skip because I liked the class so much. Take Bro. Brooks!
Took mission prep from him. Super easy class, you just need to pay attention and do the attendance quizzes. For the tests his study guides are almost word for word what's gonna be on the test. Lots of people have made quizlets for them.
Bro Brooks is the man! Teaches clearly and wants to help his students. I feel like I got more out of this class than I got out of Sunday church services lol. Easy professor, not trying to stress students out. Always a good atmosphere in his lectures. Engaged with the students. Would take again!
This is a celestial religion class! Easy to get an A, and very inspirational!
This class was super easy, but a 96 is an A so be sure to do every assignment. This was not a stressful class and Brother Brooks provides clear grading criteria. The tests are pretty simple (quizlet is your friend). I wish I got more out of his class, but he was still pretty good.
The first few classes I thought Brother Brooks was a little boring, however that changed throughout the semester. Brother Brooks is really caring and genuine, and it shows through his lectures. The class is easy to get an A, but you do need a 96% so make sure to stay on top of it. If you give him a chance I think you'll really like his class.
Brother Brooks is a great teacher! He is very genuine and the Spirit is very strong in his classes. He teaches a lot from power points, but don't skip because he has the answers to daily attendance quizzes on the slides. He clearly teaches the material and has clear study guides that guarantee you an A if you fill them out.
Professor Brooks was a great teacher and his lectures were excellent. He knows what he is talking about (30+ years experience as a marriage/family therapist) and is caring and respectful of students. Even when students may make remarks that are off topic, he is kind enough to recognize the comment and yet get back into the material we need to be on
This class was an easy A, all assignments besides tests were participation grades. His tests match his study guide. Lectures weren't interesting but he had attendance quizzes so I went. He gives you the answer to the attendance quizzes in class so as long as you go to class you'll ace the quiz.
lectures were a little boring, but he taught good info. Kind of felt like he didn't try to get to know the students at all or that we didnt get to know him but thats ok. Class is an easy A and the tests follow the study guide pretty much word for word so they weren't hard as long as you study the study guide. A few papers but he grades easy.
Dr. Brook's lectures were insightful and pretty engaging. His assignments were basically completion grades, and as long as you memorize the study guide, you'll do perfectly fine on his tests. Great professor and very manageable class.
Easiest class I've ever taken, but legitimately spiritually uplifting. One of my favorite classes of the semester, and a nice way to take stress out of my schedule and just enjoy the gospel.
I don't know if my semester was a fluke, but we didn't have class for two weeks in the beginning due to some other obligation he had. Kind of just went MIA. However, I loved Brother Brooks' class for his lecture and content. He didn't shy away from my tough questions and his background in therapy made his real-world advice invaluable.
He's really, really awesome. Very clear and direct class organization. Interesting assignments, very interesting lectures. I always looked forward to his class! I wish I could take more classes from him again!!!
Answers to a daily attendance quiz are given on the powerpoints. He is a very spiritual teacher and addresses sensitive topics with respect. He does provide a study guide that is exactly like the exams. I would highly recommend him and would take a class from him again.
Professor Brooks is a good teacher. I found that hes pretty hard to get ahold of outside of class. There is a lot of reading, maybe it was because this was a term-length class or just in general. Professor Brooks recorded the lectures and uploaded them but the att. Quizzes were only answerable if you attended class/watched the video.
Professor Brooks has engineered his class so if you pay attention and take notes, you will pass. The study guide follows the test so there's no surprises, and each topic is organized by day. He does like to talk a lot, but I thought it was a good thing. You can tell he cares for each student in his class.
Such an amazing teacher!! He makes class interesting but also very spiritual and tells lots of personal stories to help you understand concepts. Assignments are easy, mostly just a weekly insight journal on what you read that week. Such a great guy. I never talked to him face to face but I could feel his love for me and all his students!!
He's really good guy who is a good teacher. Definitely a good choice.
Cares about his students and about being a good teacher. It's not a hard class but if you put in the effort you'll learn a ton of important things.
Brother Brooks is awesome. He is such a knowledgeable and experienced guy and loves what he teaches. He wants to make sure his students succeed and is more concerned with the subject matter than being a tough grader.
Seriously the sweetest guy ever. Just watched the zooms and he tells you what is on the attendance quizzes. Tests are open note and Quizlet has all the answers. Super easy religion credit.
Brother Brooks is seriously one of the best people I have ever met. I took Eternal Families from him and it changed my entire perspective on a lot of things. He is so willing to help and make things easier for us, but I still learned a lot. Tests are open book/open note and he basically gives you the test questions in advance
Professor Brooks is such a great guy. He isn't picky with grades. Cares about your class experience. There were a few times I forgot about a deadline and he was more than willing to work with me and allow me to still turn in assignments. 30 minutes of reading a day with weekly Book of Mormon journals. Exams are straight off study guide.
Prof. Brooks is the nicest man you will ever meet. His lectures are so spiritual and I've learned so much about the gospel in just a few months than I would have in a few years. He cares so much about his students. The assignments are very easy and straight forward. If you are looking for a religion teacher, choose him!!!! You will not regret it.
Brother Brooks is awesome. He gives a set of "study questions" that he answers in each class period. The open note tests are taken verbatim from that. The easiness of the class gives you time to really focus on his lectures. As a former marriage and family therapist, this guy knows his stuff. I learned so many life lessons.
Professor Brooks is awesome. The tests come straight from a guided notes sheet we got at the beginning of the semester. Loved his stories. Really easy A. I'm actually sad to see his class coming to an end. Definitely take mission prep (or any class really) from Professor Brooks!
He has a very specific study guide to fill out, but if you do the study guide, you are guaranteed an A on all his exams.
Brother Brooks is amazing! I would highly recommend taking his class(es). Fairly easy, but you learn a ton. He is a very kind and understanding guy, and clearly only wants the best for his students. He encouraged students ask any questions they had, didn't beat around the bush at all. I didn't expect it, but this was one of my favorite classes.
Easiest class ever. Prof. Brooks is the nicest guy and you can tell he really cares about his students and the class. He gives all of the answers to the quizzes and tests during the lectures.
Beware of pop quizes... what I mean by that is that with each lecture comes two quiz questions. Super easy IF you payed attention during the class. So many papers... Not really. But there are quite a few and they are quite easy. Not your typical three to four page essays.
Brother Brooks is amazing. He was a marriage and family therapist for years and really knows his stuff for the Eternal Families class. It was online live, but he always recorded it and posted it on learning suite. It was all lecture, but it wasn't terrible. He gave us a study guide that we filled out with lecture and the tests were all open note.
HE is an angel on earth. His class is not quite as fantastic as he is but it is still good. Honestly, if you are taking it online take screenshots of his slides so you can write his exact wording into your notes. You can use your notes for exams so as long as you do the above, you should do well. FYI you need a 96% for an A.
brooks' class was good. he had a tendency to overload us with info and not be 100% clear, but his class was really fun (he tells jokes lol) and I loved how actually use the info we learned was. It's a pretty normal amount of work and the tests are manageable if you prep. TAKE IN CLASS NOTES, use his review stuff in modules, dont skip review days
Brooks' class was great! He was super forgiving and understanding and made learning about religion interesting with his personal insights and case study assignments. He gives you a study guide which will be your LIFELINE for this class, so USE it. 100% would recommend to anyone
Brother Brooks is awesome! I learned a lot and it was a simple class. Test follow the study guide really closely, so make sure you complete the study guide correctly. As long as you complete all of the assignments you will do great! I would recommend taking this class from Brother Brooks because his mission prep class is probably the easiest:)
Super easy class. He provides a study guide that you will use for your tests, which are open note. If you just answer the questions he provides you get an easy A on all your tests. As long as you explain the principles in the papers it's also an easy A. Very spiritual and uplifting professor. P.S. I always fall asleep during his lectures
Easy religion class, but I learned so much! Professor Brooks genuinely cares for all his students.
Brother Brooks is one of the kindest people on this planet. Very clear expectations, questions are pulled directly from the study guide for the exam. His class is inspirational and never stressful. Loved him!
Brother Brooks is a great guy. His background as a marriage counselor gives him a great perspective on eternal families. He basically gives all of the answers for the tests during class, and you just have to make sure you memorize the study guide. This class was definitely more spiritually enlarging than intellectually engaging.
requires lots of reading/watching outside of class, but lists every assignment you will be required to do at the very beginning of the semester
Brother Brooks class is really simple. His class was spiritual and easy. As long as you do the study guide you be fine for the exams.
This man is a Saint in every sense of the word. Straight up the best individual on this earth. He is super humble and actually cares that you learn and become more like Jesus Christ. Every student at BYU should take his class.
Kent Brooks is a zaddy. The tests came straight from the study guide you work on throughout the semester, and he gives you the answers to the attendance quizzes during class. All the papers/other assignments are an easy A if you stay on topic and do the length requirements. The way to go if you need a religion credit
This class is really easy. Professor Brooks provides a study guide that you fill out during the lectures (that you can watch live or on demand), which you can use on the tests. It has all the answers. The essays and application activities are ones you could revisit throughout your life.
Brother Brooks is a fantastic professor and he had so many insights to share in his lectures. He is very caring and the class is an easy A as he has a study guide you fill out throughout the semester with questions that appear on the exams. Because of this, I was able to focus more on enjoying and learning from the class.
Taking Mission Prep from him wasn't bad. It sometimes felt more like a "basics of the gospel" class than preparing me for a mission, but it's hard over zoom and the class was still engaging and taught well. Overall, I enjoyed it.
There is a study guide you fill out as you read and attend his lectures. The exams come directly from them and are open-notes. The professor was very understanding and successfully invited the Spirit into his class. Very easy A, so take it from him!
I love Brother Brooks! He is one of the best Religion teachers I have had at BYU. He makes class stress free so you can spend the whole time actually learning and feeling the Spirit. He is an amazing man and has fantastic insights. Really a gem of BYU.
Brother Brooks is one of the sweetest professors at BYU. He's good at going over controversial or potentially offensive material in a respectful and thoughtful manner. You get to use your study guide on the test and the test is almost exactly the same as the study guide! You have to read a lot of conference talks, but it's is worth your time.
Super easy class. Show up, fill out the study guide and you will get an A. It is that simple.
Brother Brooks is the nicest professor I have ever had. He makes lectures fun by including interesting stories, funny power points, and videos from apostles and prophets. He appreciates you showing up and being present, and he shows it!
Brooks is one of the best teachers I have ever had. He made the class more about learning than grades. I loved his live lectures and the attendance quizzes are so easy. He gives you the answers to every question on his tests, which are open notes so write it down and you pass! I have learned so much from Brooks, take him if you can!!
Professor Brooks has to be one of my all-time favorite professors I've had during my college career. This class was informative, uplifting, and one of the most straightforward classes I've ever taken. The tests are open notes, and he gives out a study guide that is pretty much the exact same things as his tests. Great class.
Prof. Brooks is the best! He used to be a marriage counselor so he really knows what he is talking out. He throws down straight doctrine and principles that will help you have a happy life. He really is focused on the student and learning outcomes rather than making the grade hard. You can use the study guide on tests and they grade easy on others.
Brother Brooks is the kindest and most caring teacher. His class was live remote so we didnt get any interaction or teaching practice but his lectures were very inspirational and spiritual. Study guides are exactly like the test and they are all open note.
Prof Brooks is awesome! He teaches the Gospel so clearly and does it in such a respectful way. I would fill out multiple pages of notes each class because his lectures were full of useful and uplifting information. His knowledge and ability to teach has made a huge impact on my life. I highly recommend him as a prof and his class!!
dang such an easy class, and I actually learned things!!! Prof Brooks only teaches doctrine and he shares cool experiences. He also let the class participate/share their spiritual experiences which helped my testimony. Tests are open note and papers are graded very easy.
I absolutely loved taking this class from Brother Brooks! He gave really insightful, spiritual lectures and handled the more difficult topics with grace. The readings for this class were super interesting and there was a very light workload. The tests were also extremely easy and open note. I will definitely be taking more classes from him!
He's a really sweet guy, and is always open to listening to students' questions and concerns. 2 question attendance quizzes after class, but he gives you the answers in class. Everything you need to know for the tests is on the study guide, so as long as you fill that out you'll be fine.
He was amazing. I really felt uplifted after every one of his classes. The one catch is that an A is 96% in this class. It is very easy and doable to get, but DO NOT miss a journal submission. Just stay on top of it, and this will be a very easy class.
I enrolled in the class expecting to learn how to teach investigators and other skills to use in the mission field, but it ended up mostly focusing on the basic doctrines of the gospel. However, the lectures are usually uplifting. Not a very difficult class and it's worth taking if you need religion credit!
Easiest class yet so inspirational. I was struggling deciding whether to serve a mission, but partly because of this class I now have my call and am leaving to Brazil soon. That said, it was often hard to find motivation to attend because it's an easy A (as long as you do your 30 minute daily BoM reading!). Tests are straight from the study guide.
The class was really great, and he is an awesome instructor. He is very understanding, respectful, and open to student's comments and input. The few writing assignments were pretty much automatic A's (not sure he read them). Just watch out for daily attendance quizzes, and to get an A in the class you need 96%, which puts emphasis on tests.
This class was SO easy, but that is how I like my religion classes. I want to learn and feel the spirit which is what Brooks excels at (RIP to religion professors who think their 2 credit class should be harder than other classes). The study guide is the same as the test and the assignments are very simple and straightforward.
Brother Brooks is an absolute angel on Earth. He'll send you a question-by-question study guide at the beginning of the semester and cover most of them in class on a slide labeled with the question number (the other questions are from easy pre-class reading). He's sincere and does his best to lift others. He knows what he is talking about. TAKE HIM
Prof Brooks is an amazing teacher. Blank study guide on the first day: basically the answers to all the exams. All you have to do is show up, do the readings, turn stuff in, and fill out your guide! He is super understanding and made the class worth going to (on zoom). Doesn't accept late work. Expectations and due dates are clear and reasonable.
Prof. Brooks is an amazing teacher. Blank study guide on the first day: basically answers to all the exams. All you have to do is show up, do the readings, turn stuff in, and fill out your guide! He is understanding and made the class worth going to (on zoom). Doesn't accept late work. Expectations and due dates are clear and reasonable. 10/10!
I love this professor with my whole heart. AMAZING LECTURES. He is so kind and wants his students to do well. Goes through every question on the study guide, which you can use on the test.
EASY MONEY. Prof Brooks gave awesome lectures that were really interesting. If you missed them you could always look back at the recordings and fill out the study guide for the tests. He was really clear on what would be on tests.
Great low effort class that still helps you learn a lot. Took the class before my mission, and looking back now that I have returned home it really helped me be an effective missionary. Even if you don't want to go on a mission, a simple class where the gospel is taught very simply. Easy A, great experience.
Brother Brooks is the best. I love him. He's very inspiring and makes the class fairly easy. It's my favorite class I've taken at BYU!!
Make sure you show up to every single lecture. He has a study guide that you fill out every day. Make sure to be thorough with it and save it. You can use it on tests and quizzes. If you pay attention and show up, you will get an A. I am literally sitting in his class right now. Love this class, amazing lectures! Highly recommend Prof. Brooks.
I've taken two classes from Prof Brooks because I loved him and his class structure so much. The study guides are simple and easy to fill out, and the writing assignments are very straightforward. Simple and easy, and fun classes!
I loved professor Brooks, he basically gives you a study guide the first day and you fill it out as lectures happen. Tests are almost word for word what are on the study guide and easy to pass. I liked how easy the class was because then you could focus more on the spirit and not be stressed out. Super easy would recommend!
Great professor, makes the class easy to understand. He understands that religion classes should be the least of worries for students and sets them up how they are supposed to be which is easy. First religion class that I got something out of.
I love Brother Brooks! He is an amazing teacher and an even better person. His Mission Prep class was awesome and super helpful if you are preparing to serve an LDS mission. He tells adorably touching stories from his life and is wholeheartedly engaged with the class. Love this man and cannot recommend his class enough. :)
I loved this class and Brother Brooks. It was super helpful in terms of preparing for a mission. I loved the lectures. Super easy class
Kent Brooks teaches with the Spirit, and he is absolutely a gem. I will take as many religion classes from him as possible. He focuses on feeling the Spirit versus having to make you study, so he gives you a study guide to fill out that is exactly the test. He is so kind and understanding, and I love his Eternal Family lectures!! HE IS THE BEST.
Professor Brooks is a great teacher, and a pretty easy class. In order to get an A you absolutely have to attend all of the classes, and do pretty well on exams, because his A is at 96%. As long as you attend classes and stay on top of the study guide (which he helps you fill out in class, and with assigned reading) you'll be fine.
The class is stupidly easy, if you go to class. If you miss class, you are absolutely screwed. The tests are open note and word-for-word based on the study questions from the readings and lectures. The main issue is that he does not post slides if they were gone over in class and even threatened failure to students who made a shared google doc.
Brother Brooks is AMAZING! Such a sweet guy and a really chill class.
My favorite class at BYU by far. Lectures are so enlightening and good to listen to. Assignments and exams have clear expectations. Super kind and understanding with personal questions and circumstances as well.
Lectures discuss answers to the exams, which are open note. He makes classes engaging.
Super easy A! All tests are open note (even the final) He does have attendances quizzes but if you go to class, its an EASY A
He is very kind-hearted and sweet. Solid choice for the class.
I really love Brother Brooks. This is the second class I've taken from him, and he does such a good job teaching religion without making the class difficult. The tests are practically carbon copies of the study guides you fill out in class, which for me is how religion classes should be. There are a few papers, but very short and easy.
Brother Brooks very wisely, practically, and openly approached all topics in this class, including the potentially difficult ones. I loved how he brought in very practical applications of all principles taught so we could actually change the way we did things in our relationships, current or future. A fantastic, very well-informed professor!
I learned so much from this class and I would definitely recommend Brother Brooks. He is super gospel oriented, and it shows when he is teaching. His class is not difficult. His exams are online, and he has a study guide which is almost word for word what is on the test (and tests are open note). I'm taking another one of his classes next semester.
Professor Brooks is absolutely perfect!! I am taking Mission Prep with him next semester and I am so excited about it. He is so sweet and as long as you attend the class, take the attendance 2 question quizzes and do his super easy assignments, you will get an A. All tests are open note, so moral of the story: TAKE ETERNAL FAM FROM PROF. BROOKS!!
Prof Brooks is a great man. I wouldn't say his lectures are particularly riveting, he can be a bit monotone sometimes, but he is a good teacher and I learned a lot. You will have quizzes every day which you won't pass if you don't go to class, but they are super easy if you show up. Tests are super easy too. Make friends in case you do miss a day.
I learned so much applicable life knowledge in this class. Just fill out the study guide and you will ace every exam.
I mean he's my favorite professor. Super easy classes, papers, finals. Just do the work and you get an 100.
Easiest religion class at BYU hands down. Take it from him and get an A without getting tested on pointless details.
Such a nice professor. He is super easy to follow and super understanding. Youll definitely like him. Just take classes from him.
This class was great! Easy A as long as you show up and get your daily attendance points. You won't go wrong if you choose Brother Brooks; this class really strengthened my testimony!
Professor Brook's makes a religion class what it should be, inspiring and all about your thoughts and insights. I was never stressed about this class. If you show up and do the weekly insight journal you'll get an A. If you have a chance to take a class from him do it!
Prof. Brooks is amazing! All of the notes are from his lectures, and you can use notes on all the tests and quizzes. He has papers that you will need to write, but I did most of them on the day they were due. He is really caring and met with me outside class due to something in my personal life. If you can take his class, do it!!
Brother Brooks makes his assignments and study guides very clear. If you pay attention in class and do the assignments, you'll get an A. His classes aren't the most inspiring, but they are simple, and it's an easy religion class. Lots of good readings are recommended and he's pretty funny at times.
Brother Brooks' class was really interesting and easy to listen to. A lot of the information he made very applicable to his students. There was work out of class but it was very easy. If you come to class and fill in the study guide questions you will do well on the open book tests. Some out of class reading but it is easy to get the answers.
The tests are exactly what is on the study guide that you fill out in class. He gives great spiritual insight. He assigns a lot of reading, but all of it is straight fire. There are a few assignments but they are not hard.
Insanely easy and a really nice guy. I liked the class content, it was uplifting and everything was for completion. I don't know why you wouldn't take this class, there's no stress at all.
Prof Brooks is amazing. My testimony seriously deepened from his heartfelt lectures haha. You learn a ton about the gospel. Lots of assignments to do but they are all quick and easy, and he gives full credit if you do it and turn it in. Super caring, super understanding of students. Probs my fav professor of BYU
Easiest class ever. A 96% is an A though so messing up on tests can bring your grade to an A-.
Just a wonderful professor and person in general. If you have accommodations, I really recommend his class, he was very understanding.
Professor Brooks is an amazing teacher. He is very understanding and cares about his students. The tests and assignments are easy and the grading criteria is very clear.
This Professor was a marriage and family counselor for like 30 years before starting to teach so he knows the ins and outs of the Eternal Family. I would strongly recommend taking this class from him! I learned so many valuable tips from him in his lectures! He will not disappoint!
Brother Brooks is amazing. I took Eternal Families from him. Loved going to class and learning from him. Class period is him giving lectures. Takes attendance by asking two questions he gives the answer to. Has easy writing papers. Has a study guide and all the answers are on the slides. Tests are open-note and all answers are on the study guide.
I really enjoyed Brother Brooks' class. He's really genuine. He gives you a word for word study guide for the test that you fill out in class. It's really straight forward. There are some assigned readings and a few easy essays. His background in family psychology provides great insight for marriage.
Kent Brooks is super spiritual and gives great lessons. He always has the best stories. There are attendance quizzes every day, but as long as you show up, it's easy. There are 4 exams, but they are open study-guide and Brooks answers some of the questions in his lectures and you find the answers to the other ones through the readings.
This dude legit thinks that dino bones were put on the earth by satan to lead us away from god... wtf? How can this be taught at a modern university?
Dropped his class mid-way through the semester. He's not a bad professor, what he teaches is relevant, and it's not a hard A to get (though in REL C 130, you have to read the BoM 30 mins a day for credit which was a lot), but he wasn't for me. I didn't feel spiritually enlightened in his class which was my reason for taking it so I let it go.
Brother Brooks is the person I think of when I think about an angel on Earth. He is so kind and understanding, and I truly felt cared about in his class, rather than just a number. He is my favorite teacher at BYU and I have taken multiple classes from him.
Absolutely the best religion professor I have ever had
Great Professor. All exams were open note online and super easy. He literally gives you a study guide to fill out during class and lecture which has all of the test questions. The other assignments there are super chill and easy. He brings a really interesting insight to the class since he was a marriage counselor before becoming a professor.
Super great guy, class is pretty easy which is what a religion class should be. You have to show up to class in order to be able to do attendance quizzes, but other than that it is great.
He changed my life with the concepts he taught
Brother Brooks was amazing!!!!
This class was the straw that broke the camel's back for me. In a way, I'm grateful, because I needed the push, but this class is the reason that I'm leaving the church and transferring away from BYU. Pretty easy A if that's what you're looking for, but not a great choice if you are in the LGBTQ community or struggling with your testimony.
Prof. Brooks is a 10/10! If I could have him for every class I would. He is the best and treats all students with care. I think the negative reviews are based on the material, which he can't control. The class focuses on the family proclamation, which is a tough subject. He handles the material well and does his best with what he gets. Love him!
Here is a quote from a slide he shares every semester, "While women need to feel loved before they can become sexually aroused, men need to be sexually aroused before they can truly feel loved." Effectively teaching women need to put out if they ever want a man to love them. Don't let him confuse you about what marriage is or make your role lesser.
He's cool
Brother Brooks is a great teacher and runs a very well organized class. Getting an A is incredibly easy if you do the work. He also really knows his stuff and has taught me a lot through this class. Sometimes his lecture can be a little dry to me, and I dislike his reliance on his slides. However, he does a great job and I recommend him.
Brother Brooks used to be a marriage and family therapist and knows so much about building effective relationships. His lectures were always so spiritual and engaging. I can honestly say that I have been changed more by this religion class than any other class at BYU. As long as you show up to lecture, and do everything on time, you will get an A.
Professor Brooks was an amazing religion teacher who really knows his stuff! He also had evidence from divinely appointed sources to make up each principle we studied in class. The class was overall very easy with a few one-page papers that you would basically get credit for completing.
A couple easy one-page essays and semi-weekly readings, but he basically hands you the answers to all the exams if you come to lecture. Lecture is enjoyable. My least stressful rel class ever. Basically you fill out a study guide during lecture and with the readings, and the exams are right off the study guide, and the test is OPEN STUDY GUIDE.
Dr. Brooks is great! He is really funny and clearly cares about his students and what he teaches. Be sure to attend lectures and do the readings. The tests are open notes, so fill out your study guide. I highly recommend his class.
time wise you it is a normal amount of work for a 2 credit class, but all the assignments are easy. It is an easy A if you do everything. Kent Brooks is the most amazing person ever and I hope so bad he heals and can return to BYU. If you want a smaller less lecture based experience take a different professor
Dr. Brooks has super good expertise as a family/marriage counselor, so he teaches from real experience. He teaches the doctrine in a really applicable way, and I feel so much better equipped after his class. If you do the work you will get full points, so the only way not to get an A is to not do the homework (which is pretty manageable).
Professor Brooks is awesome. Aside from the midterms and finals, as long as you turned your stuff in on time you got 100%. Literally the only way to not get an A is if you don't try at all. He gives you the answers to every question on the tests, so if you fill out the study guide you will do fine. He had some great insights and taught me a lot.
The study guide is word-for-word with the exams. Answers for the study guide come from your ow reading and the lectures, so make sure you attend or can get the answers from someone else. He's a great teacher and I loved the class.
Professor Brooks was a very inspiring teacher. This class is easy; test questions are verbatim from the study guide, which is allowed on exams. The real challenge are the other assignments, but Brooks is very understanding and helpful. Helped me through some tough personal challenges.
The exams are word for word the study guide, and the readings are plentiful, but easy and informative. He is SUCH a kind man and you can definitely tell how much he loves his students and the gospel. I would recommend everyone take Mission Prep from him. This man is so kind and the class is an easy A if you put in the work.
If you sit at the front of the class and listen, you can learn so much. He has so much love and care for his students. his PowerPoints are cringe, but it adds to his charm. The only problem I had is that his tests had questions that we couldn't get the answers for which was frustrating. this class was focused on learning rather than tests/grades
Professor Brooks is a great man and a decent teacher. The course is extremely easy, if you show up you will pass. The class is easy enough that I didn't get much out of it since I didn't have to engage. Despite this I learned a lot of great things in this class and Professor Brooks taught them well.
Amazing professor. You can tell how caring and passionate he is, and he wants all of his students to succeed. There are attendance quizzes for each lecture. He gives a study guide and provides the answers during his lecture, so the class isn't too difficult if you pay attention and attend class. A+ professor!!
Definitely my favorite class I've taken at BYU. The study guide makes it incredibly clear what's going to be on the test, and having access to your notes makes it extremely easy. At the same time, at the end of every lecture I felt that I had learned something that would help me to be a better spouse and parent. I recommend Brooks to everyone.
This class was incredibly easy. He gives you a study guide that you fill out during class that is basically just the test. You then get to use this study guide on the test. Brother Brooks was also interesting and was respectful of the LGBT community during the lectures on marriage and gender.
