Dr. Dollar doesn't respect slackers. He is very helpful. The best thing is that his lectures are NOT boring...very important. You don't want to miss class though. He does essay tests, but will let you know (if you ask) what he expects.read your assignm
cool cool cool. makes history fun and interesting. if you go to class, study like he says to do so, you'll be good to go. read only occasionally incase of one of 3 pop quizzes.
i took him for both sections of american history and learned so much. he's clear and concise and very organized. it is imperative that you attend class and study for the tests, but it's ok, because he makes it interesting.
Made me appreciate the class. I've always hated history but his was one of my favorite classes. I learned alot and didn't work very hard. I just paid attention and took notes. I studied very little. Easy "A".
To be honest, it's the one class I won't skip. He has a passion for what he's teaching that keeps you from dozing off. Gives a page of notes each day. On tests, he loves you to ramble about the topic, EVERYTHING you can think of. Beware 3 pop quizzes!
WONDERFUL TEACHER. GIVE AS MUCH INFO ON TEST AS HE GIVES IN LECTURE. HE WILL APPRECIATE IT. DON'T BE AFRAID TO TALK TO HIM DURING OFFICE HOURS IF YOU NEED HELP. HE WON'T BE MEAN.
I think he is one of the best teachers I've ever had. His tests aren't hard if you study for them and he tells you exactly what to prepare for. His lectures are very interesting and not boring at all. He is an awesome teacher and a nice person.
Excellant speaker!!
Reverand Dollar <-- that is what I call him because he is firely at times like an old time preacher. Great class, he is a lot less liberal (at least in his teaching) then most of the history professors at TTU. He really lets you form your own opinio
He's a great teacher! i agree i don't skip his class one its interesting and two you miss to many notes. Tests are hard he expects you to know every detail but you really do remember a ton because his preaching style of teaching keeps you interested

Awsome...the best teacher I have ever had. Great! You will not regret taking his class.
He is a great teacher. One of the best teachers I have had. Does expect a lot on the tests, but if you go to class and take good notes you should be fine. His lectures were very interesting (and I don't like history very much).
Hard class. All tests are essay with short answer too. My most proud "A"!
He is really good at what he does. He explain everything very well and really makes history interesting. He doesn't just read from his notes, he actually know what he is talking about. Funny from time to time, most of the time. Never really serious.
He is a miracle for this history department. He isn't dull or boring. Very reverend-esque. A nice person. Pumps you up for the test but right before you take it he puts you at ease. Not monotone. The best prof on campus if you're willing to work.
Very interesting lectures; hard essay tests-make sure you know all the details! i dont regret taking this class because i learned a ton!
Very expectful, but if you show up to class and pay attention you will do just fine. Great speaker and keeps the histry entertaining!
He expects a lot from you. I'm usually an A student in every class and even though I busted my ass for this class I still came short with a B. So he's not easy at all. He's entertaining and very passionate. Overall best teacher I've had at Tech.
Dollar is a really respectful, nice guy. You have to pay attention to lectures and show up to class and read your book to make an A. He is into history and makes it pretty interesting!
There are 3 quizzes from reading, and his tests are an in class essay (70%) and 3 IDs from lecture(30%). PAY ATTENTION and try to get close to the front. He's very smart and dresses nice. Preach on Dollar, preach on.
If you are not a History person, find someone else. I took him because he was given a good rating on this site but apparently those people are History buffs. I HATE History but I really tried in this class but did it help? NO If you dont have EXACTLY what he wants on his essay exams you get an F.
I made a C, but learned SO much. He is a great teacher! Extremely organized, has AMAZING outlines for notes and doesn't get away from them. Expects a LOT on your tests, but go to class and they will all be there! Keep up with your readings(from your "reader", they will be valuable on tests.
Great teacher but study for exams and READ both books
His essay tests are very hard. To make an A you have to memorize every word of the lecture. He is Evil. You do learn alot but it's not worth it unless you're a History major.
Dollar enjoys torchering students. 3 Essay tests in which you memorize 4 entire lectures and 30 ids but only put 3 ids and 1 essay on the test.A lot of unrewarded study. He grades by taking off a point for EVERYTHING he said that you didn't write, including lots of dates and details. Dont take him!
Dr. Dollar is the best teacher I have had at Tech. Granted, the exams are very hard and you have to study a lot.I learned far much more in this class than any other class. Unless you plan on going to class everyday and studying hard for exams, I would find a different teacher.
The whole history department at Tech is very hard. But Dollar is probably the easiest out of all the teachers. He gives study guides and 3 pop quizes to help your grade. He grades very hard on the exams. The final is not cumulative. I would recommend taking him.
No. Don't take him. He is very passionate about history but not so much so with helping you. He expects you to have the same degree/desire for history as he does. Just. don't. do. it.
I really enjoy classes where the teachers actually lecture. . .he's really good. I worked really hard and I made an A. Don't read both books- just get the Binder and Reimer for the quizzes- he'll give you everything else you need to know. My advice- memorize the outlines, the extra info on your essay test will come from reading your notes over.
The best teacher I have had so far at Tech. His lectures are wonderful, if you study you will pass the tests, and he is so informative. If you are going to take history, take Dollar.
I hate history...and took him because he got such good ratings...hoping that MAYBE this History class wouldnt be so bad. WRONG! Horrible teacher!! Essay and Ids on the test are insane. If you dont write word for word what he said in the lectures....you FAIL!
He explains everythimg really good.
This is definately NOT an easy class. His lectures are interesting, but he talks too fast to get it ll down. You have to know EVERYTHING from his lectures on the test. He is a nice guy, but very hard. He grades like a banshee.
His grading is very inconsistent from person to person causing conflict between students and the teacher. He uses excuse words such as "more" to take off large amounts of points from a correct answer.
Dr.Dollar tells you that he grades very hard, and he does. But he makes the stuff interesting and he's very clear. He's also a really helpful and nice guy, Dr. Dollar is a great pick for History. He rocks.
Let me say this he is Awesome, for real though, he starts off every session with music. plus he kinda cute. When he teaches he sounds like he loves what he's talkin about, he is very interesting to listen to. His tests are on point if you study, and his grading isn't that hard.over all he's cool. (he gets two snaps and........ around the world)
He's mean and boring. All he does is teach the same U.S. History class we've already taken three times in grade school and secondary, and then grades very stiffly. Has a slanted view on many subject, such as slavery. Plus he let's his opinion of you effect your grade. Avoid at all costs.
Dr. Dollar is an excellent professor. I took him for 2010 and liked him so much I took 2020 from him too. His class is definitely challenging.. but you can do well if you take all the notes and study. He loves history and will help you if you ask him.
K.Dollar is an awesome teach. I'm not a big fan of listening to history lectures, but he made it interesting. Not to mention he is hot!!! You will have to study for the test, but he gives you everything you need in the lectures. 1 essay question and 2 id's. EASY!!!
He is AWSOME! Take him if you can. Not your average droning professor, but animated and interesting. Tests are extremley managable! Nice guy all around.
Dollar is an awesome professor. He will bust your backside without letting up, but it's worth it. As he says, you WILL learn something. For him, volume equals emphasis. It works. Take him for anything.
Not an easy class, but a great teacher! He gives you a study guide so study everything on it and take good notes in class. Its not impossible to get an A but you have to earn it. He keeps the lectures interesting and he is very clear and organized. Just study and you will do fine!
Awesome teacher. His lectures werent boring because he was very into what he was teaching. He gave study guides before the tests so you could prepare for the test. He graded very harsh. Basically you have to write down every little thing he said. It was a great class and i would recommend him.
Dollar is one of the best teachers I have ever had. I have already learned SO much and we're just half way through the semester. He is very clear and is obviously passionate about what he is talking about which makes the class really interesting. His tests are hard but you just have to study hard and go to class and you'll do fine!
Mr. Dollar is a great teacher. His class is very easy if you read the book i didnt and i still got a B i the class. He gives essay tests but they only have two questions on them. He is from the south and is very down toearth he is not a raving liberal that hates on Bush thankfully. Good Choice for a teacher if you can get him.
Dr. Dollar is an amazing teacher. I've always hated History until I took this class. Tests are not easy; I probably had to studied for 5 or more hours to make an A. That time is spread out other than 2 hours of cramming the night before the test. I don't think this is unreasonable considering the time required outside class for most classes.
This man could care less if his students pass of fail. He called our class "the slow class". Most of the class failed his tests and he refuses to change. We are the ones not getting not him. Be prepared to be insulted.
attendance wasnt manditory, but he gave pop quizzes like once a week. His test were tough, alot of memorization. Study hard if you take him
Each class starts off with an outline and music relating to the day's topic. He hits the important info and tells you exactly what you need to know about that era of history. Tests are hard, but remember that this is history--it's going to be a lot of information. Luckily, he doesn't test over tons of dates and years. EXCELLENT PROF!!
Really great teacher. Attendance not mandatory, but there are reading quizzes. Tests are hard so you have to study. Explains the material perfectly.
Tech's history dept. is tough but I made an A by coming to class every day and taking good notes, studying a lot for the tests, and reading the assignments in the reader-he gives 3 pop quizzes through the semester over that. Don't bother with the Nation of Nations book--never picked it up, but read the reader-easy quizzes if you read. he=great prof
Doctor Dollar is a wonderful professor. He presents material in an incredibly clear and organized manner, which I like. He starts class off every day with an outline of the day's lecture and music pertaining it. Tests are not hard but require that you know EVERYTHING he has said and that you study your notes. 2010 and 2020 were fantastic courses.
Great teacher. Topic is hard to keep on top of. Must study everyday, but everything from the lectures was on the tests. Not bad on the eyes either.
This guy is great I encourage everyone who is even mildly interested in history to take him. He gives all sorts of insights into research and paper writing. I would almost say take him even if you don't have any history classes he is that good.
Great teacher. Tests are hard. Need to study everynight. Pop quizzes over B&R readings. Make sure to read everything he tells you to.
I must admit, I underestimated how easy I thought this course would be. Dr. Dollar grades very matter-of-factly, but he is fair. If you make a grade, chances are that you earned it. You definitely learn how to do efficient research in this course and he is one of the most helpful professors one can find. A challenge: yes...worth it: yes.
It is worth taking his class. I learned a lot. Dr. Dollar is a great professor. He is also a tough, but fair grader.
For those of you who hate history (or think you do) TAKE THIS CLASS! wonderful professor, very caring and passionate! almost considered history as a major bc of him. go to class, take good notes, AND STUDY! like said before, the grade you get in there is one you deserved but worth fighting for!
He is an awesome teacher, very passionate about what he does. class is very interesting. All you have to do is pay attention and take notes. The only down fall is that there are only three tests and you have to study all of your notes to be prepared. Its not too terrible, just start studying the week before. I recommend him.
Dr. Dollar is insulting and pompous. he sees everything in black and white and insists his narrow view is the only view. He smashes any creative thoughts, but he will teach you how to do research, and when i say teach i mean he will yell lectures at you as if he is preaching fire and brimstone.
super hard teacher! extremely hard tests and no extra credit. too much info to study for and the tests are all fill in the blank and short answers.
ok, i see some people do not take very kindly to Dr. Dollar. It is understandable that he is hard, but only because he has high standards. He gives you information and expects you to know it, that's all. If you know your notes, you will do fine, you don't even have to buy the main textbook (just the small reader; which the quizzes are over)
Great teacher especially if you are intrested in history tests could be hard if you dont like the subject few quizes about reading very little reading But overall i would recommend
This professor was awesome. He doesn't take attendance, but you have to be there in order to pass. His entire test is from his lecture. No need for the textbook unless missing about two questions on any test is going to kill you, but you do need the extra reader for quizzes and tests questions. This was an awesome class.
The only problem with this class is I think there is too much information given. It's a lot to study and when you have so many other classes, it is hard to study for. He's ok for a teacher. His tests I thought were hard, but it is true that most all the questions come from the lecture notes. Quizzes...read the small book!
Dr. Dollar was a great teacher. As long as you studied your lecture notes you will do fine. Also make sure to have the little reader. Gives extra credit to make up for your lowest quiz grade as well. Very helpful.
great teacher, kept my attention... pop quiz ever once in a while they are unofficially announced... he was pretty cute for his age... take notes because they become ur study guide so dont miss class
If you can take notes, and effectively study them a couple days before the test, you should make an A. End of discussion.
Best history teacher I ever had
Dr. Dollar is a very interesting teacher even though sometimes he can sound like a preacher. As long as you go to class and take notes you should be alright. Make sure to read the little book because the quizzes are from it.
Dollar demands your attendance because he teaches through lectures. First test is kinda tough, but after that its easy to pass as long as you show up to class
Dr. Dollar is by far the best History teacher I have ever had. He probably is the best teacher overall. He is exciting, loves the material, and makes it very interesting. He incorporates pictures, music & movies to bring the material to life. Take notes, go to class and learn a lot (and get a good grade). Makes me want to major in History. HOT TOO!
GREAT teacher. Makes the class interesting. As long as you study, you'll do fine. TAKE THIS TEACHER.
Dr. Dollar is a great professor. You just need to study for his tests and you'll be find. He gives out random quizzes but it is just to check if you're reading the material or not. He makes the class interesting. I recommend him to everyone.
Great teacher overall, very clear and easy to follow. But you can get behind very easily, just make sure you go to every class and take good notes and you'll be fine. Exams are the lectures' notes, so take them serious.
Dr. Dollar is a great teacher. He is a great speaker and he's easy on the eyes as well! I would encouage anyone to take him.
BEST LECTURE AT TECH..very passionate about history.. 3 tests made mid 80s on all and studied for 5-10 hours.. 3 unnanounced quizes from the B&R book. attendance is necessary to make a decent grade. not the easiest but you will learn alot. also gave some extra credit and helped students out quite a bit, i made a B..BUT HE IS HOTT SO ITS WORTH IT!!
I enjoyed lectures quite a bit - engaging with the occasional dash of unexpected levity. Uses a lot of audio and visual aids - pictures, music and movies. There was an awful lot of material covered in the tests, so start studying early. It required a TON of work, but if you do the work you'll be okay. An A's not impossible but pretty hard. Very he
As I was saying - very helpful if you're having difficulties.
I had him for 2010 and 2020. His lectures are amazing. I looked forward to his 9 am lecture every mwf, and I was not a history person before his class. His tests are not easy, but if you take really good notes and study those over and over you will do fine. 20-25 hours of study time per test and you will make an A. plus he is a silver fox.
Pros: Great class, Dr. Dollar is an excellent professor. He truly cares about his students. He wants you to improve and learn. Cons: He can be too critical at times when grading papers. You will feel like you don't know what he wants, but just do your best and improve! He is an educator! Class is tough, but worth it! Great Lecturer!
Great professor. Very passionate about history. Excepts you to try hard. He will help as much as possible but you have to make the effort. I highly recommend taking his courses.
I absolutely loved this guy. He is an amazing teacher. I was told history at tech was virtually impossible to do well in, but this class was wonderful. While, shockingly, you do have to work a little bit for an A, it's not hard. Go to class, take notes, read when you're suppose to and there's no reason you shouldn't do well. Loved this class!
Loved him, class size was around 50. sit as close as you can to him take good notes, and read and you can't go wrong! he is very passionate
He is a wonderful teacher. I was never a big history fan, but his lectures are so intense that you cannot help but learn. Come to class daily to get the notes and read the book. I liked 2010 so much that I am taking Dollar again for 2020. It also helps that he is pretty good looking....nothing like a little eye candy during the day.
Great professor. Do the reading assignments every night (it helps if you take notes on them). In class, try your best to write down everything he says, word-for-word. Test are a little tricky but not too bad overall. I wish I could take him again for 2020, but his class filled up before I got the chance to register.
By far the best professor I have had in my college career. Dollar is very passionate about his subject, and presents the information very well. His exams are hard and challanging, eventhough they are multiple choice. Unless you love history, and already know alot about it, you will need to study. I wish I had him for 2020.
So far this is my favorite professor I've had in college. He gets so into what he's teaching that you can't help but get into it too. Take good notes and fill out his study guides and you'll be fine. Attendance isn't required but I would recommend not missing if you can help it because if you miss one class you're way behind.
Dollar is the best History teacher I've ever had. He makes you want to listen. He gives 3 tests, including the final, and 3 unannounced quizzes over the required readings, so try to stay up on your homework and make it to every class. But this class is not boring at all. I like to think of it as a break from the rest of my classes.
Bah, I just barely passed. He is very boring and monotone. It's hard not to fall asleep.
Best teacher ever! If you do your part (read the assignments and come to class) then you will recieve a good grade. Lazy students will get what they have earned. All tests are over material covered in class and a study guide is provided.
LOVED this teacher, but his classes fill up fast! Definitely taking him again for Hist 1010.
Absolutely great professor. He's funny and very fair. Three tests and three pop quizzes. He gives you a list of the terms for the exams along with outlines for lectures. The quizzes are unannounced and over the reading you are supposed to do before class. Other than that I enjoyed it a lot. Will take hime again if I can.
One of the best professors I've had so far. He has a passion for what he teaches. If you want an A, understand you WILL work your butt off from day one. Always come to class and take good notes..I'd suggest by laptop because he has a lot of detailed info each lecture. Start the study guide a week or two before the test and you should be prepared.
Dollar is by far the best history teach I have ever had. He keeps my attention and he does a great job of not getting me lost. His tests are tricky and you will have to study. Three unannounced quizes that he seemed to always give a week before the test.
I absolutely love this man. I have never had a better teacher. If I could take him for every class I have, I would! He explains everything perfectly; he's not out to get you. It's either you know it or you don't. 3 tests, 3 random quizzes. If you make an effort in this class there is no reason you shouldn't get at least a B. Go to class, take notes
One of the best professors I've had at Tech. His tests are kinda hard, but he gives out outlines for his notes and study guides for his finals. He also gives one or two extra credit opportunities. If you want a hist. prof who will keep your attention, take him! His lectures are clear, concise, and easy to follow.
Dr. Dollar is awesome. He is the best lecturer I've ever had. He makes everything interesting. You will need to go to class and take notes to make an A. He gives 3 test over the lectures and 3 random quizzes over the readings. (the reading isn't bad).
Great Professor! He gives 3 pop quizzes and 3 exams. The material on the exams was really easy but you do need to study unless you just know history pretty well. I learned a lot and loved every minute of the class, he's a great lecturer and I have him next semester for 2010!
I recommend Dr. Dollar to everyone. He makes the lesson interesting and is not afraid to overstep "historical bounds."
GREAT HISTORY TEACHER. take him! there are 3 tests - 30% each and 3 pop quizzes that make up the other 10%. The pop quizzes are over the reading assignment for that day. I had horrible history teachers in high school and I understand him perfectly. He tells you what you need to know. Go to class. take good notes. study. and you will make an A!!
Dr. Kent Dollar is what every university student hopes to find in a professor. His class is incredibly structured and he will follow the structure exactly. Lectures are perfectly clear/fun to listen to. Dr. Dollar is always prepared and quick to grade assignments. On top of that, it's EASY!! Cannot stress enough how much I loved this class.
Take a laptop, download his lecture outlines, fill in the info as he goes along. Simple. He explains things crystal clear. Exams will be hard if you do not study, but if you use the outlines it isn't difficult. Take him.
Kent Dollar is an excellent history professor. He is succinct, clear and professional in his class. We covered the material he provided in a well structured manner. If you take notes and do your reading assignments you should be fine. He also give out a lot of extra credit. Those who enjoy history will love this class.
Dr. Kent Dollar is an excellent History Professor. He is very professional, and makes the topics very interesting- no matter what they are! His tests are a little difficult- but he gives you an excellent study guide with all of the terms you will need. Do not miss class- you will miss too many notes! I definitely recommend Dr. Dollar.
One of the best professors at Tech. Explains things crystal clear, and the tests reflect what he says in the lectures. Take your laptop if you have one and fill in the posted outlines and the class is a breeze! Makes history very captivating even if you don't like it that much.
This class was pretty difficult. I attended class every time took notes and studied, but you have three tests and they are pretty hard. The one thing I liked about the class was that there was no homework except for reading the book which actually helped. I would probably not take him again.
GREAT professor! I absolutely HATE history, but Dollar makes it so interesting that you learn more than you think in class. A lot of studying is required if you want to make an A. Quizzes come from the readings, and they're randomly given (1 per exam) which makes it hard to miss class. TAKE Dollar if you have to take history.
Dollar is an amazing professor. He uses an outline. Take notes off of the outline and listen and you will pass. He takes 3 quizzes from the readings and the 3rd one he tells you when it is. He makes history interesting!
I took the Intro to Hist Methods course a few years ago. Dollar is a tough grader, especially when it comes to writing assignments. I got papers back with blotches of bloody red ink all the time, but I became a better writer. I made a "B" in the class where I got lazy on the end. I wish I'd kept that thin little Strunk book--great reference book.
Dr. Dollar is absolutely wonderful! You can tell he is passionate about his job and he makes history interesting! (coming from someone who hates history) He is so funny too! He gives you a VERY clear outline for each class. There are a few quizzes and 3 tests. They are challenging if you don't study, but if look over the outline you'll be good!
Dr. Dollar is a very good teacher, though somewhat monotonous at times and not very engaging. I like the fact that he lets you form your own opinion on the subject matter as opposed to forcing it. Prepare to study a lot for the tests, not easy! I am usually an A student, looks like I am getting B in this class. Not sure if I will take him for 2020
Professor Dollar is an awesome teacher! He explains everything in full detail, and he's funny too. You have 3 tests and 5 unannounced quizzes, so you have to do your readings. I'm definitely taking him for 1020!
Very enthusiastic about the course material, used a lot of visual aids (photos, videos, maps) as well as music to create the feel of the time period
I hate history and he keep my attention the whole time. 3 test and 5 quizes. NO FINAL! Tells you when you're going to have 2 of the quizes. You have to read what he assigns and check online everyday to see if you have a quiz. TEST are hard, you have to study for them! Take him!
Great teacher! He makes the class interesting . If you use his outlines and study guide the test will be easy.
Amazing, very clear and obviously knows his stuff. Great teacher.
I took this class over the summer and LOVED it. We had six pop quizzes, and three exams. You had to read every night with the book but it wasn't too bad. He's truly passionate about the subject and solo helpful before exams! Always had a positive attitude! If you pay attention and take good notes you will be fine.
Test are horrible I did the outlines and took good notes but the test suck. lectures are long, you never get out early never. I hate this classs
He is amazing and he is very clear about where he is in the lecture. If you don't attend, you better find a good friend to get the notes. Flash cards are your best bet to help study for a test. He is fantastic, best history teacher I have ever had!
I took Dollar for HIST 2010 and 2020. Big mistake! I consider myself an above average student and I made a B and a C. His tests are very tough, but he is a great speaker. His lectures were very good and made the subject interesting. You also have unannounced quizzes and reading assignments.
Dollar is a pretty clear cut History Professor. Pros: gives you basically the test on his study guides. Only homework is reading. Test are all multiple choice no essays. Cons: He requires you to check every morning before your scheduled class to see if there is a reading quiz. 9 out of 10 times it is a false quiz where there are no questions.
Dr. Dollar is an amazing teacher. He's a history teacher who is not boring and knows what he is talking about! You have 3 exams and 8 random online quizzes. Quizzes covered the book (3-10 pg max) and tests covered the study guide. Don't think you don't have to study for his tests. LOTS of "which of these is most accurate" & "not true" questions.
I love Dollar! His lectures are actually relevant and interesting. He's one of the few professors where I don't constantly check the clock. He has 3 exams that are covered on his study guides and 8 random quizzes that are from homework reading that he opens the morning before lecture. If you attend lecture, take good notes, and study alittle easy A
Great teacher, barely got an A but would take again
Dollar was my favorite professor as a first-semester freshman. Everything was crystal clear & straight to the point. Must attend lectures & take notes to get an A. Random, unannounced quizzes that you must check for each morning before class, only 3 exams (study guides provided), occasional extra credit opportunities. Amazing class and professor!
I always looked forward to going to lecture, and enjoyed how organized his lectures were because he provided us with outlines. If you have to take history, then Dr. Dollar is the best option! His tests are difficult even after studying a fair amount, and the quizzes are important but if you do the extra credit you will do fine.
I don't particularly like his quiz system. I have never been good at history and his class is no exception but his lectures are so interesting. Kent Dollar is a darling of a man and I like his class quite a bit. His lectures are kind of a story and sometimes he plays music that matches the time period we talk about. I've learned a lot.
Professor Dollar is awesome! He is by far my favorite history professor. He gives 8 random online quizzes over readings from the book and 3 tests. As long as you study the study guides he gives you, you should get an A.
I really didn't like this class.
Dr. Dollar is very clear about what is on the test and offers a study guide. You will have to study but it is not hard to achieve an A. He does have pop quizzes but the reading is not excessive and their is a couple extra credit opportunities if you do horribly on one or two of the ten quizzes.
He is very knowledgeable in the content but his test are so hard! I studied the study guide items, took detailed notes, and still did not get an A on a test. Very hard test. Pop Quizzes over readings; never know when there is going to be one. Only 3 exams and 8 pop quizzes.
This professor is not ideal for anyone other than the auditory learner. His lectures are long, and the test are ambiguous. He is not very willing to help, either.
Be sure to take good notes and study before hand and you should be good in the class. His lectures are really interesting and not boring at all.
Professor Dollar kept History interesting. You have to get up before every class and see if you have to take a quiz, so make sure you are reading. I would recommend going to class because he does not put the lectures on iLearn. His test are hard but he gives you a study outline. Its hard to get an A if you don't make really high B's on test.
Dollar is a good professor. If you skip class you could miss critical information needed to pass the class. His tests are very ambiguous so you need to know pretty much every little detail. His lectures are mainly for auditory learners, although if you listen he is very passionate and knows what he is talking about. There are a few pop q from book
Dollar is a great professor with engaging lectures and clear layouts for tests and papers. He gives study guides for exams, offers good feedback, and is not a tough grader. No book but reading of articles is required because he gives quizzes on them. Tests are all comprised of essays but they're not impossible to pass, just have to include details.
Go to the lectures, read the book, Go to the study groups, and you will be pass with a B and above. Great teacher , very informative, test are easy if you do what he say and study. 3 test , 8 pop quizzes . Attendance is not taken but you should still go to learn. Make note cards and study.
3 exams, the last exam is your final. Great lecturer! Puts an outline online for the notes and actually follows the outline in class. 8 quizzes online that you have to check for before each class. Tests are easy!
Hands down the best professor Ive had! This guy is clear and concise. A heavy workload but a very doable workload. He does well to keep you interested and engaged. Even with him being a tough grader/professor I wish that I could have him for every history class!
I'm not usually interested in history but Dr. Dollar makes the class entertaining and keeps you interested. As long as you take notes on the lecture you'll do fine on the tests. Your grade comes from the 3 tests and some reading quizzes.
He is a nice teacher, fair and generous is all aspectsm you will do well as long as you study and do the morning quizzes.
Funny, interesting lectures. Chance of a quiz over the reading before every class. Gave opportunity for some extra credit. Tests aren't too difficult. 2 tests, 8 quizzes, and the final. No papers, which is always a plus! Just go to class, take notes, and study for the test and you will be fine.
Kent Dollar is an awesome professor! I have yet to have my first exam, but he explains everything so well and makes class enjoyable. I never want his class to end, I really enjoy Dr. Dollar. Would recommend him to anyone!
Hes a very interesting teacher. Unfortunately, he only has 3 exams and 8 pop quizzes all semster. Each exam is worth 30% of your grade. Each pop quiz is worth 1.25% of your grade. So 90% of your final grade is determined by 3 exams and the other 10% is POP quizzes that you do online 30 minutes before class starts over the homework reading.
Dr. Dollar is tied as one of my favs in the dept. He is a brutal grader, but in a way its rewarding. His lectures are amazing and time flies by. He is clear as to what he expects on exams/papers. He gives a study guide prior to the exam and even crosses off terms prior. Two exams, weekly papers over readings, and a research paper. Amazing course!
Dr. Dollar is a great professor, and is very knowledgable on the criteria he is teaching. The downside to this class is your grade consists of 3 test grades and 8 quizzes. Every class period you are assigned readings and may or may not have a pop quiz, but you have to read because if you do have a quiz you do not have time to flip through the book.
Show up to class and pay attention and you will do fine on the exams. The questions are fair and he is reasonable.
Dr. Kent Dollar is an amazing professor. His lectures are interesting and he gets excited when lecturing . Dr. Dollar presents the matrial in a way that is easy to understand. He gives 2 exams and weekly readings as well as a research paper. Wish I could have him for all my history classes.
Professor Dollar is super caring and gives surprisingly engaging lectures you can see he's interested in. He even gives lecture outlines so he's always on track. Though tests are a bit tough and you definitely need to study for them (flashcards!), and the daily quizzes can be annoying if you're like me and hate getting up early, he is worth taking.
An amazing teacher overall.
My biggest problem wasn't his instructing or lecturing. It's his grading. Only 4 grades total so if you do poorly on the first exam like most people do, you'll spend the rest of the semester attempting to recover.
He is very knowledgeable about what he does. I didn't enjoy the lectures because of how they are presented. I had a hybrid class which made learning the material harder. The online lectures were a voice recording, and personally, I have to have physical reading in front of me. I wish there was more homework, and not only tests and quiz grades.
I have had some of the hardest History professors at Tech but none of them match up to Dollar. He has the most ridiculous way to grade tests, and no matter how hard you study, or how much detail you write if you don't include 1 thing he wants he will take off like 15 points. I have never felt as discouraged as I did with his grading on tests.
He is an amazing Professor. He teaches like he enjoys his job and he always answers questions. There are few grades though. There are 6 random quizzes online throughout the semester. BUT, there are 3 exams that you know when on the first day. Pay attention and you will pass for sure!
First, I think Dollar is a good professor he makes learning history sort of fun in a way but the test are really difficult for no reason and makes me feel like I'm in High School again with the Scan Tron format. Unfortunately, there is zero extra credit or curves so pray you do well on exams because if you don't there is no hope.
amazing professor! one of my favorite classes. i love the way he lectures. you do have to try and study for the exams of you wont do well. the only downfall was the surprise quizzes but he did tell you 50% of the time when you had them. gave us 3 extra credit opportunities
Online quizzes open from 5:30 am and close at 9:30 am (or before your class). I found this class to be pretty boring and wish I would've taken another professor.
I hate history classes, but this one was actually one of my most interesting classes this semester! He made the class very fun to listen in on, it was like telling a story. Sadly, I realized too late into the semester the best way to get a good grade in the class. Take notes based on the study guides and be sure to study them for the tests!!
Professor Dollar makes history interesting. The exams are tough, but the pop quizzes and attendance help a lot. unstuck AI was a lifesaver for test prep - highly recommend it along with the textbook.
I absolutely adore Professor Dollar. When he gives lectures, it's like listening to a story. It's very engaging and the need to take notes keeps you alive during the lesson. I also appreciate just how dramatic he is. Beware though, his quizzes for a 10 am were up from 4:30 to 9:30. They are incredibly easy though and he's very forgiving if u miss 1
Best history class I've ever had, one of the best professors I've ever had. Truthful coverage of history, extremely engaging lectures. Rarely have I been disappointed to get out of class until I had Dollar! Got a D due to missing the before class quizzes too many times, ha.
My first experience with Mr. Dollar was when I missed the first two quizzes on accident and then a third. He was very understanding and counted the grade I made on the fourth quiz for the rest of them that I had already missed. His lectures are amazing and engaging and I looked forward to every class.
He is very passionate about his teaching. However, there are certain things that I implore him to consider. He only grades over pop quizzes and exams; if he assigns other homework, this will not only help our grades, but will prove that his students are learning interactively. He does not grant extra credit.
Easily one of my favorite professors so far at Tech. His lectures are enjoyable and class is VERY structured (makes note taking incredibly easy). My only real complaint is the grading. I wish there was more than just the 6 quizzes (5 questions) & 3 exams ... if you miss one quiz question, you get an 80. :( Absolutely would still recommend, however.
He's passionate about the topic, incredibly well-organized, keeps things within a reasonable grasp of the group, and genuinely cares about students. If you need this for Gen. Ed. or degree path, take Dr. Dollar, he'll be a bright spot in your semester.
Dr. Dollar loves to teach history. He makes gen. ed. courses more than gen. ed. and you'll be glad he did. He brings depth and enthusiasm to every topic he introduces and has an entirely realistic understanding about why most students are in his class...doesn't dampen his enthusiasm one bit and you'll find yourself quoting him in conversations.
Easily one of the best professors I've had at Tech. He makes it easy to understand and explains everything in a way you can remember. Attendance is important as it counts for 10% of your grade, but it is very beneficial coming to every lecture. He even hosts exam study sessions! If you don't know a lot about history, this is the course for you.
