Girlzzzz take his class. he is the best)))He is going easy on his lectures.Nice to have a teacher like Kent. WOW
I took his class online this summer and I wish I would have taken a on campus class with him. He's really nice, helpful, and wants students to learn. The only frustrating thing about his class was the other students! Also, his literature selection for the class is really good and I enjoyed every piece we read. Definitely take his class!
Super class to take!! Very helpful in answering any questions you may have. Really encourages you to write and find your inner author. Also, picks great reading assignments. Would take any class taught by Kent Fortin ? RUSH ROCKS!!
Fortin is an AWESOME professor. I highly recommend his class. He's a good guy and his classes are usually pretty fun. Not too hard, about 3-5 essays. Very helpful if you need help. Workshops are next to worthless, but he's just trying to help. Journals are kinda interesting, easy enough. Essay prompts aren't great, but they work. Fun class take it.
One of the best teachers I have had for creative writing. He is helpful and listens to his students.
Awesome teacher!! Very helpful and makes class time enjoyable. Highly recommend. Wish he taught Eng1b!
Amazing teacher. Taking 1B next semester b/c he is so super. Takes advantage of Blackboard. VERY willing to help you. Truly wants you to succeed, and will help you. Very in-touch with reality. Understanding when it comes to absences. One of my favorite teachers at Sierra.
AMAZING teacher!Highly reccommend. He's funny, and easy. Wants everybody to succeed!
Awesome teacher have taken two of his classes and plan on taking him again for the next english, super funny, really is passionate about his job.Work load is never too much and you always get good feedback on your work.
Kent is by far one of the best English teachers i have ever had. He acts like a real person! He is super easy to get along with. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND HIM. I never thought I would understand our lessons but he makes it easy to learn.
Great teacher! Very lenient and understanding. Funny too
Great teacher! Very lenient and understanding. Funny too
Kent is by far the greatest teachers I've ever had at Sierra. He is genuinely kind and really wants every student to succeed. Plus he's hysterically funny. I was happy to be done with the subject, but it was depressing knowing I wouldn't be in his class anymore. Take his class! I saw him a year later and he was like HEY!! and gave me a bear hug!
AMAZING teacher!! His Creative Writing class was a blast. He's hilarious and gives great feedback. Take his class!
Mr. Fortin is a great teacher. He really cares about his student and wants to see them succeed. He is also very passionate about english and he has a great sense of humor. I love Mr. Fortin! :)
This is really a great teacher and a Great person. He's compelety passionate about writing and Literature. He picked a great Novel in "A Hero of Our Time" and really got the class into all the elements of the story in fun ways. The textbook he assigned was full of great work we went over. I would never sell it back.
Took the online class. Assignments weren't too hard, but he doesn't grade everything until the end of the semester. Makes it difficult to know what grade you end up with or how to improve to get a better grade. Not great at online communication, deffinatly leaves you to figure it out on your own.
LOVED IT!! I took him twice. English A and 1A. Fun Fun Fun. He made everything do-able. He make the class fly by. Home work was never too much. English 1A had 4 essays and that was the whole class. EASY and FUN!
Ok... Was really slow at handing back any work. It was often confusing on how to improve your essay when it took 3 weeks to get back. >.< Seemed laid back. Alot of what was on the syllabus we never ended up doing just not enough time in semester I suppose.
He's an amazing teacher and helps you out all the time. He will never give you an answer but he'll put you on the right path.
Best english teacher I have ever had. Lectures are very lively, so it's easy to pay attention. he uses great analogies that are very easy to understand. Definitely go to every class.
Hands down the greatest english teacher in history.
He is a very energetic teacher who is always trying to keep the class fun and interesting. You have to do a fair amount of writing but he is always willing to help and guides you through if you are having trouble. Hands down one of the best teachers i have ever had.
Take this class with this teacher! He doesn't believe in grading us too harsh because he doesn't want to judge our creativity. Very good teacher. Fun, humorous, and easy. Very helpful and gives good comments on papers. Warning: you will write quite a bit. He's very encouraging!
I'm an A+ student and I don't recommend him. He distinguish a lot between students which is not good. I got a B and I put 100% work in his class. He gave me a c on most of my essays. I will never take him again
He's great! A lot of fun as well (: he lets you freewrite && have fun as a writer.
He is a great teacher in that he will not restrict you on your creativity but, he has very high standards and you will noticed half way through the semester half of your class will disappear. Also don't use a lot of "You" in your essay.
Mr. fortin is the best! The class was super fun and interesting. He is full of energy and understanding and classes fly by and are super fun. Only 5 essays and weekly reading responses. He also lets you rewrite one essay. People that say he is hard are just lazy and dont do any work. Great teacher!
Uses a lot of the book to teach basics. Show up, pay attention, do the work. He grades your participation in class. Not an easy A class.
Prof Fortin seemed to intuitively know when to push his students to be creative and when to back off to give them leave to interpret the creative assignments on our own. I really enjoyed this class and wish I could take it again. I recommend it to anyone who wants to explore thier creative abilities.
Very disorganized professor, takes forever to get grades back. Grades papers very hard, and does not do a good job of explaining what he wants on/from the papers. I would not recommend this professor.
Fortin is amazing!! By far my favorite teacher I've ever had at Sierra. If you're interested in expanding your writing portfolio, this is definitely the class for you. He makes every class period hilarious and fun, you won't regret taking him.
Super fun and helpful. I hated english until this class.
Creative Writing Online is SO DISORGANIZED. The announcement page will now show a due date and then when you try to turn it in there is a due date in tiny letters that you missed. Why put a due date where you're supposed to turn it in? Advice: Search every section of blackboard every single day to find minute details and dates you might have missed
Superb teacher. Prof. Fortin engages with students in a fun and interactive way. He brings humor to the classroom which is always nice. If you show up every day and complete the nit-picky assignments you'll be fine.
I had him as my first enish teacher in college. His class was layed back. He is strict on his essays, but he tries to teach essay's to fit everybody's writing style. I had him for English A and I have F-A-N-B-O-Y-S drilled into my head. He is defiently one for correct grammer and punctuation. Over all he is a great teacher.
Fantastic professor, dynamic style. Funny that others complained about the work, this is a composition course! He is willing to take the time and help you, but you need to ask, this is college now. He makes you think and requires a high amount of effort while keeping class fun and interesting. Highly recommend!
Hes cool.
Mr. Fortin is very straight forward and is usually always doing what he can help you individually and make the semester easier for his students. his strategies are extremely helpful. If you are someone like me that hates English classes then I would recommend Mr. Fortin.
Mr. Fortin was, in my mind, one of the best English teachers I have ever had. I feel that way because he brought a scene of humor to the class which helped me feel relaxed. I normally have a difficult time in English but the semester I had with Mr. Fortin was definitely not difficult. Keep it up professor!
The class is over and I still haven't revived the grades for my 3 out of 4 essays! How am I suppose to know what he likes? Spent the entire class period talking about stories yet when it came to writing he said we are in 1B we should know how to write. Gained nothing from this class except how to analyze every detail of a story which is useless.
Best English teacher I have ever had! Very helpful, and wants everyone to actually understand what he us teaching.
Worst teacher. Does not help at all or keeps to his word about assignments. has no interest in helping his students succeed. His assignments are useless and unhelpful to learning.
Prof. Fortin helps a lot. He gives examples and direct you to the right answer. Although he will not give you the answer but you will figure it out by yourself. He talks a lot but it helps especially at 7:00 am class. If given a chance to take a course under him, I will definitely choose him.
He was a good teacher but if you want to skate by in his class and only come when you feel like it you won't pass. Even though he missed a lot of class, he expects you to be there and grades you for it.
he is incredibly easy going and laid back, quick to help and he really wants you to succeed.
He never response to my emails.
He is a nice teacher and I enjoyed the class , but there is one thing students should know before going in. He grades assignments at the last minute so if you aren't doing something right, you wont know till it is too late. My grade dropped 10% because of this. Ask him to grade at least one assignment early, to make sure you are doing it right.
Awful. Perceived him to be a super relaxed teacher only to learn that he is superbly lazy. Showed up for 40% of the classes, which is cool until you realize you're wasting gas. We never did readings, felt like he couldn't even be bothered to pretend to have interest in his student's work. WAS TERRIBLE, do NOT take this professor!!!
My first online classes and let me tell you it was TOUGH!!! However, it took my writing to a new level, which he saw and even decided to use some of my writing for future classes. Some of the essays were a little unclear as to what he wanted and he is a little hard to get a hold of. If you're looking for an easy A this isn't the class you want.
i have a hard time when it comes to writing and reading, but when i took Kent, he straight up said " do exactly this" when writing the essays, so when i did the corrections he told me to do, he said that its wrong and do it again.
I absolutely adore writing. It's one of my passions and I plan on writing for my career. I was super excited to take this class. However, I felt we didn't use the time we had in class to do many writing exercises. Feedback wasn't helpful, mostly just straight up criticism. He graded 80% of my assignments after the class FINISHED. Take someone else.
Awesome
Very helpful
Kent was the first professor I had, and out of 4 classes he is the best by far. He is so passionate about writing and reading and I am never disdained, discouraged, confused, or stressed. He is fantastic. He inspires me and encourages me to reach my highest potential in writing, and even for students who don't excellove english, he is very helpful
He was an amazing english professor. I sat through an 8 am class and didn't want to fall asleep. The readings were actually interesting and there's only four essays.
Kent was by far the best english teacher I have ever had. So easy going and totally understandable. Make it to every class and get on his good side! He made me love english after absolutely hating it. I will former be back to take English A with him next semester. I recommend him as a teacher!
Kent is awesome, one of my favorite professors at Sierra. He does have a tendency to go off track during lectures and say more than is needed, but as a poetry teacher that is to be expected. He is always there to help and encourages you to change his mind about your grade if your u satisfied. I totally recommend taking his class.
Kent is an AWESOME teacher. I didn't mind waking up at eight every morning to go to class because he made it enjoyable. Not to mention, his good looks made it a little easier too. Yes, there is a lot of reading. It is an English so it is to be expected,so, get over it!
We would read but not discuss the material in class. I felt loss because of that.
I had Kent for English A IN CLASS and he was awesome. Super funny, knows what he is talking about and was super helpful. However, I had him for ONLINE English 1A and was thoroughly disappointed because I did not receive help when I asked for it or needed it. Still would recommend him for in class though, he was awesome.
Kent is an amazing professor and he's hot! He doesn't give extra credit but as long you do the homework assignments you'll just fine. Make sure when you type your paragraph to capitalize your "I" because Kent absolutely hates it when someone turns in a paper with a lower case "i". Say on top of the assignments/homework and you'll do great!
He is possibly the worst teacher I have ever had. He was absent many times throughout the semester. He didn't grade much of the work until very late into the semester (yet more of it remains ungraded even after the end of classes). He constantly goes off on tangents during class, which leaves his students in the lurch knowledge wise. He was lazy.
Don't take his class if you are not an English major. He says that he'll be an easier grader & just give lots of critique, but gave me a C- on a poem when I did everything he asked... He grades on how much he likes your work, not on if you followed the instructions. Expect to pay $60 for a textbook & be given only 3 day notice to write ten pages.
An awful professor, I would not take his class. I don't know if he had a lot going on during the summer but it was very disappointing to go from an A to a C in one day all because he had finally decided to grade, five weeks later. He gave little to no feedback on papers and by the time he did grade it was too late to fix trends that I had created.
Professor Fortin was ok! When I got back graded essays, it was with little to no feedback.
Honestly Kent is a great teacher and really enjoyed him for my English A class, he is easy to learn from and has a great sense of humor, one downside I noticed was he like to take his time on grading ! Although he has many other classes he teaches aswell! If you're looking for a English A teacher you found him
Has good examples doesn't make you read a lot .. Mostly grammar and writing
Kent is an amazing professor! He gives good feedback on homework and is very funny. If you want to pass the class participation does matter! Kent does get off track while lectering but he's also a Poet so that's to be expected! Overall, Kent will not only be there for his students if they need help but to also make sure they are successful.
He is a Great Professor
Kent is an awesome teacher. Make sure you show up to class and do all the homework and you will find yourself with a good grade. He also allows 1 late/re-write on your essays. Only downside is that he can take for ever to update canvas which made me nervous the whole semester.
He waited until long after class was over to grade multiple assignments(thanks Kent, very helpful), he missed multiple classes and only warned us once(you owe me gas) but if YOU miss class, he loses it. I think he enjoys embarrassing students sometimes but I can't confirm that. He's arrogant and I can't believe he has a job. His prompts are fine.
He hardly used the text book. We were tested on grammar and not enough assignments given to learn the material. He doesn't grade things on time so you don't know if your even doing the work correctly. I felt rushed and he called out sick a lot.
he doesn't give you back your work on time so you have no idea if work was even correct. school ended a week ago and I still don't know if i passed the class! so frustrating! he called out sick too much! didn't teach anything!!
He is an outstanding teacher! Yes he may grade tough at times, but if you meet up with him after class he will explain stuff better to you. He also sounds like the actor Seth Rogan. He is super funny.
He is a tough grader but his feedback is amazing. If you actually want to learn the subject, take his class.
Kent Fortin is a very nice teacher. I took English1B with him and learned a lot of new things in this class. He is very funny but very strict. Plagiarism is not tolerated in his class. He update the grades on time and he is very helpful.
I loved this class! Kent did a really good job and getting students to enjoy reading Shakespeare, he really cares about his students and wants them all to succeed. He does expect you to do all of the reading on time and if you do, the reading quizzes will be easy. Only had 3 essays, lots of time to work in class, and he was available to help too.
Kent's poetry class was one of the hardest classes I've ever taken. Writing poetry is hard. That said, Kent was really there for us, and I could tell that he wanted all of us to succeed and become better poets. As other reviewers have noted, he often takes a long time to grade things, and he is usually late for class, but his teaching was solid.
Fortin is definitely a teacher to take!!!
Kent is GREAT. He has a wonderful mind and you can see the enthusiasm within himself when discussing films with the class. He isn't the most knowledgeable when it comes to film, but even he says that himself. Regardless, he taught a fantastic course that I would recommend to anyone curious about film from a literary perspective.
Honestly, I think Kent is really funny, probably some cool guy to hang out with as a neighbor. But his teaching sucks. He has a do workshops for our essays, and someone who copied and pasted and comes up with 2 paragraphs gets the same full credit as I do who spent a week coming up with 3 paragraphs, all because he doesnt want to grade them.
Kent did a really good job working with me at the end of the semester so I could get an A. For every essay, you do workshops in which you receive credit for completion, not content. However it is good if you actually put some effort in it because they are helpful. I loved Kent and will take him again in the future.
Very funny and like-able guy and doesn't mind being himself or letting others do the same. He explains everything very well and always is willing to help out with any questions. Has reasonable office hours for any extra help you may need. Essays start small and week by week are worked into finals copies so there is feedback along the way.
Prof. Fortin is one of the most empathetic & just professors I have ever had! He is great about setting clear guidelines & gladly accepts feedback from the class. He is approachable and easy to communicate with about any aspect of the class & will happily help you earn the highest grade possible for you.
He is a fantastic human being. You should definitely show up to class because the class time is valuable. PARTICIPATE in the in-class discussions, they're easy points and he will call you out if you don't anyways. Is a super entertaining person, I think everyone should take him if they get the chance.
awful disposition and terrible teaching. he is probably the rudest person ive ever met
You can tell Professor Fortin is a great guy, and he's a teacher you would label as cool. Although if you're coming to college to learn he may bottle neck your learning experience workshops. If you are coming to college because you have to I'd take him, it's an easy A. Just come to class, and make sure your essay matches the rubric to a dot.
Kent is the best English teacher that I have ever had! I strongly recommend him to anyone. He is so good at making English interesting and he is here for us, the students!!!
I am a high school student who took one of Kent's online classes. Kent gives great feedback and his grading it not very harsh. I've seen some people on here say that he is tough; however, if you did the workshops, you could see why some students didn't do well. Even after doing assignments on bibliographies, MLA format seemed difficult to some.
Kent is very approachable and funny.
Doesnt use support class well
I would take Kent's class again. Sometimes he would talk a lot but he was always very funny and loud which I liked. The class was only tiring when there was no participation. 4 essays during the semester and an in class essay for the final. There are lots of opportunities to beef up your grade. He is a genuine guy & cares about his students
He's just really awesome as a person and as a professor.
Does not care about your personal life or any specific needs you have
Kent is a good guy, class itself is easy but there was quite a bit of busywork, there is a mandatory attendance class but it's under the English S if taken online. just be prepared to spend 3ish hours a week on assignments outside of class. kinda a weird guy too and talks way too much during class and gets annoying, but really not bad.
Professor Fortin is a cool dude, but this class wasn't easy for me. The only reason I got an A in this class was because of tutor's (the writing center), and even with help, there were still assignments that didn't meet up to Kent's standards. That being said, Kent still gives good/decent feedback, but just keep in mind he's somewhat hard to please
Pros: -Great feedback -Manageable workload -No textbook -Well-laid-out, easy-to-follow, modular, multi-modal content (e.g. Vidoes, presentations, essays). -Activity-based learning (read, research, analyze, try-it, almost no rote memorization). -No busywork Con: -Grading takes a couple of weeks, not bad for Eng! I only wish I could take him again!
Professor Fortin has been one of my favorite instructors. His online class is so clear to navigate. He's available and eager to help with anything. Instruction is very clear. So many professors don't engage at all in OL courses. He makes you want to show up and learn. Refreshing after the last 4 semesters of mostly the opposite.
Lets you pick your topics
Extremely easy class in the first half but after the novels were introduced he became an extremely rude individual. Would constantly get accused of using cliff notes, and would get publicly criticized in the rudest way. He grades and acts like he works at harvard. would not recommend
Fun and modern choices for the reading material. Choices for critical thinking prompts and multiple peer review partners before paper writing. Uses VoiceThread, which allows students to respond to prompts using written, voice, or video responses. Read the books, engage in the process, pay attention to his writing tips, and you'll rock this class!
Would sit down for 2 hours just for him to tell random stories for 90% of it to then just go home and watch 2 hours of videos that have to explain to me what to do.
He is very rude and not respectful for students. A lot for homework and tough grader. Even in feedbacks he write things that he shouldn't write like (Again - careless) ( disappointing) and things that makes you feel bad. But if you are ready to have a stressful semester and want to be insulted. my friend drop his class because he was rude to her.
What in the world is with this guy? If you want posts for an assignment due Friday, don't make the due date Sunday! Unnecessarily harsh in grading and feedback.
Feedback is extraneous and hardly helpful. He seems to give commentary like a parent talking down to a child instead of a professor helping their student achieve the best possible grade
Kent is super fun! I highly suggest his class. He does weekly check-ins with his students and you can write about anything in your life and he will respond to you. He gives good feedback on your essays and clearly sets what is required. He truly wants his students to succeed and have a fun time in college. Love him a lot!!
I appreciated that you can tell this professor wants his students to succeed as he was typically pretty helpful and would allow you to resubmit assignments if you did them wrong. However, he was a tough grader and would mark you down for little things. This class also involved a lot of work.
Professor Kent was a great teacher overall, and if possible, you should take his class. There is a bit of hw, but it's explained thoroughly and you can get help in multiple ways. Most of the assignments are helpful to your writing. The only reason he didn't get a 5 was that the final essay was confusing and difficult for no reason. Still recommend!
Really cool prof that pushes you to become a better writer. This was challenging, but so are most English classes for me. He gives amazing feedback, and even though I never got 100% on a paper, I learned more this way. He's not the type to dock you for no reason, and you should end up with the grade you want if you put the work in.
Gives A+ feedback & is really involved in class even tho it's online. Workload is a bit heavy, but it's completely doable; most of the work is small writing assignments (ex; practicing in-text quotes) or annotation. The actual essay writing is spaced out over several weeks so you can gradually prepare and improve on it. Taking his 1B class in fall!
Kent is a good professor and I would recommend him to people who are a bit anxious about their writing ability because he is available outside of class and gives great feedback on papers. He creates a video for each essay describing exactly why he graded the way he did. As long as you participate and pay attention in class, you are will do great.
Very tough grader. You need to be interested and knowledgeable in the topics, and a great writer. The professor was in Europe for the entirety of the online class, therefore unreachable during the daytime. Do not expect any personal help. I sent him my thesis to clarify the direction of my essay and he stated that "the prompt is clear enough."
so many random and weird assignments
Decent professor but the class seemed poorly structured. Grading seemed like it was based on a personal bias towards a very specific writing style.
I am usually an A+ student, but this professor was not flexible at all and very demanding. You can't turn in ANYTHING past 11:59pm due date with the exception of 3 passes. There was one extra credit opportunity offered at the end. Numerous snarky comments were made, and I highly recommend finding another professor- this one isn't worth it. Avoid!!!
This professor is one of the worst teachers I have come across in my academic career. The whole class was based on unnecessary peer reviews that were a waste of time. We barely covered actual curriculum; instead, this professor believed it was a good idea to glaze over our classmates' essays instead of working on our own strategy and abilities.
Worst English teacher I have ever had. when the instructions were confusing he did not clarify, or allow me to make a simple edit. Class is full of irrelevant peer reviews that are beyond useless and just a waste of time which he grades like the gestapo. Overall terrible teacher. do not take any of his classes, it is just a waste of time and effort
He barely tells you how to fix your work to show what he wants. He is snarky but then claims the student has an attitude. Overall, he is the least helpful "professor," and he does not deserve this title. I will be seeing Dean to talk about his poor teaching skills and false accusations of students using AI to fail them.
Very tough on grading essays and won't respond to emails. Don't take this class or have anything to do with this professor. horrible teacher.
Fortin is a very caring professor who wants you to succeed. Runs the classroom democratically with input from students on how they want the class to be. He gives a lot of freedom on the topics you can choose to write about for the class.
Professor Kent's class can be a mixed bag. The workload is heavy, but he's genuinely invested in helping students succeed. unstuckstudy and the free course materials were a lifesaver for me. Overall, a challenging yet rewarding experience.
Terrible. He doesn't know what he's teaching. He says one thing and tells you another. The whole course is a mess, hard to follow. Shouldn't even be a professor at all. Grades really hard for no reason and goes by his rules and not regular English rules. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!
Mr. Fortin is funny and easy to talk to, but his lectures can be a bit scattered. He sometimes goes off-topic when answering questions, so try asking again or checking with a classmate. He grades tough, but it's fair for college—and at least he doesn't require a $100 textbook!
Kent is a sympathetic professor who is always willing to help students concerned about their grades and performance. He makes you write essays about topics you feel confident in, which makes things easier if you struggle with words. He talks a lot, but he makes it fun. I'd take his class if you are an artistic person trying to improve your writing.
Tough grader, barely replies to emails, and assumes students are making excuses. Doesn't accept late work unless you use one of only 3 “late coupons” — even if you're just fixing something he told you to. Would not recommend to take this class with this professor.
Decent prof. Often says when grading that he's disappointed in you. Lectures can be a bit messy sometimes
One of the worst professors I have taken, he is often late to respond to questions emailed or asked during his weekly check-ins. His feedback is often shallow and does not provide anything meaningful to work with, mostly citing going to the writing center (which has a lovely staff and taught me 10x in our 4 sessions than he did the entire 16 weeks)
I love to read, I love to write...I *really* wanted to enjoy this class. His lectures are fun (albeit scattered at times), but he doesn't know how to phrase things politely and can be very condescending. You will dread reading his grading comments!! It's difficult to be treated with respect by him. I wish I could write more about my experience.
Ridiculous
He's quick to assume to worst of his students. Don't even think about correcting him or explaining yourself; he'll say you're making excuses and that you have an attitude. By far the worst professor I've had here. Not enjoyable whatsoever.
The outcome of this course is genuinely a shame. I had such high hopes and was genuinely excited to be a part of this class, but Kent Fortin has done nothing but kill my love for writing. I have nothing positive to say about this professor, and I urge all optimistic writers to take a different course instead. Take a class where your teacher cares!
The professor is rude and not helpful when grading papers. Will be a harsh critic towards you and often criticize your writing abilities. A lot of unnecessary homework and writing assignments. Don't recommend!! Totally sucked my love for writing out of me due to the personal bias from him that I was trying to impress.
To the person that googled his rate my professor page: please listen to all the negative reviews of him.
It was fine at first, but throughout this course I have grown to hate English, with all this ai stuff now if it comes back at all any use of ai I got a zero and couldn't fix it. Even tho I did NOT use ai I got a zero on multiple things. He pretty much just assumes the worst and does not care
Never gotten a grade as bad as this. Happy to retake English, but never again with this professor.
The beginning of the semester was fine, but now my love for english has been killed. Even if it had the SLIGHTEST Ai score it was marked as a zero. And things that were marked as AI were my QUOTES, my evidence from my essays. This guy essential assumes the worst and doesn't care at all. Worst grade ive gotten by far, and im a good student.
Kent is a great teacher! Very clear about expectations, just attend to his lectures and do the bare minimum, trust me you will do fine. Yes there is a lot of reading but that is an English class. Kind of a tough grader, but he is very approachable so do not feel discouraged to talk to him about it.
This class was absolutely amazing! Such a welcoming group, and professor Kent does a great job at making everyone feel included. This class is a contract grade, so participation is vital when trying to get an A. He LOVES poetry, and makes the class incredibly easy and interesting. High recommend!
I chose this professor over my other two options because the reviews written here seemed thoughtful. I was looking forward to being a part of this class but boy was I stupid! I don't think any students had a good experience with Fortin. He is 1. Difficult to contact 2. Difficult to talk to 3. Rude and disrespectful 4. High and Mighty. Be Careful!
The bare minimum will not give you a good grade. Effort will not get you anywhere in this class.
I think all the positive reviews on here are either people who took him in person or Kent Fortin himself tbh. If you are looking to sign up for his online classes, don't. Maybe it's different for his in person classes but he will accuse you of AI and grades harshly. I am disappointed in his abilities as a teacher (Iykyk)
