Wow, I was dreading taking a statistics class. But Kent is wonderful. He understands the material well enough to actually explain it to me instead of just read from a power point slide or quote a textbook. I am so glad that I took Kent's class. Yes, there is a lot of work but he helped me out when it went over my head. I'd take him again!

This class was required for my major. Kent explained the subject matters clearly and if the majority of the group missed a question on a test he wouldn't dock points, stating it must have been something he didn't teach properly. Would take him for other classes.

Taking a statistics class during the summer is hard, but Kent actually made it doable. He explains topics very clearly and won't move on until the majority of the class understands. If you volunteer to write your homework answers on the board during class he gives you an automatic 100% on that assignment, which is pretty awesome.

I took this class in the summer, so it moved really fast. Kent did a great job making the class understandable and was very helpful and fair. The TA was just a former student and not very helpful at all (especially when the TA taught lecture). Overall, stats requires a fair amount of work

This class was very hard, not because of the professor, but because it was a hybrid behavioral statistics class, meaning we had to learn everything in six weeks that most people learn in four months. But I wouldn't have been able to do as well if it wasn't for Professor Hinkson, I knew he cared, and that was enough for me.

This class isn't easy, unless your a science major taking much higher level classes. As a communications major this wasn't easy, but Kent is an excellent teacher. His first priority is for you to pass the class. He can talk fast but refuses to move on until everyone in the class shows understanding. Great professor.

Kent is very passionate about what he does. He is extremely helpful and will answer any questions you have. He responds to emails and canvas quickly. The class is not easy but Kent will make sure you have what you need to get a good grade is you put int he work. He is a fair grader and wants you to understand the material.

Loved this class. Professor Hinkson is SUPER helpful. You can call or text him with questions and he is always willing to help. You have to read the book or the class can be harder for you. Watch Barton Poulson's videos on BESC 3010 and that saved my grade as well :)

I am a CJ major but this behavioral stats class is required for my degree. BESC3010 is a lot of definition and understanding and not as much "crunching the numbers" like in math. However, Kent made this VERY easy and understandable. He also gives you a lot of questions that will be on the final. If you have to take this class, take it from KENT!

Kent goes above and beyond most math professors, most likely because he specializes in behavioral science. I suck at math but when I am given instructions in clear cut steps i can succeed, and he does that. the entire semster's work is working out the hypothesis testing steps and the final is pure theory so understand it and you're good.

Kent is a great teacher! He will explain anything as many times as you need. My class was a summer semester, hybrid class. HARD! Kent isn't a tough teacher by any means. He has about 8 homework assignments, 5 quizzes (on canvas open notes), two take home exams (open notes), and the final. If you don't pass the final you don't pass the class!

This instructor is very knowledgeable about the subject, gave clear examples while teaching and went over things as many times as needed if there were any questions. It was a block class so we went fast, but he gave us all the necessary info to pass the final.

I was really nervous about this class! After statistics I thought for sure this would be the death of me... However, Kent did an awesome job! He was very clear with what he expected for each assignment. This was definitely not an easy A class. But it was worthwhile because you had to work for it.

The required text was free online. You just googled the book and downloaded the pdf. I never even read it but still did great in the class. Attendance is only required on specific days, and he lets you know when those are. He does take participation points for those days so be sure to ask questions on those required days. He makes the class fun.

This class isn't and easy A, however you are able to gain a lot of experience and understanding in regards to research. It was a different kind of writing than I wasn't used to but I felt like I really learned how to expand my writing abilities to different formats. I often find research boring, but I was never bored in Kent's class. He's hilarious and everything he talks about in class is relevant and helpful. And no busy work, every assignment had a purpose.

He was a phenominal professor. I am taking him again next semester for stats. He really cares about his students and wants you to succeed. You are going to have to work hard in his class, but I promise you that it will pay off. A good professor should make their clas as least somewhat difficult. No pain no gain. This class was one of the hardest classes I have taken, but I also learned the most in this class. You do have a lot of reading to do but the quizzes are basic so if you semi read you will pass the quiz. If you miss class it will be hard to understand how to do the papers and do them well. He does provide a lot of useful and great feedback.

Caring, funny, clear, and made sure we understood even if he had to talk to you on the weekend (like he did me twice) to help me figure out my project. Great professor, really down to earth and funny. Hardest class I've ever taken and probably the most stressful semester I've ever had (because of this class). I read every page in the text book and got good scores on the quiz but if I wouldn't have read I wouldn't have passed the quizzes. Get ready to write and read A LOT. Oh and APA is a must.

Kent is a wonderful professor, he really knows his stuff. That being said, this class is rather difficult, but doable. You will write a lot, and most likely learn a new style of writing. You must read the textbook, but he provides an online version, so you don't need to buy it. There are several days you are required to be in class. Don't skip.

You will walk away knowing exactly how to write a research study. He wants you to be able to apply his class when you are reading research articles and if you go into research, and it works. Gives excellent feedback on the papers you write. They all end up adding up to your final paper which is nice. You also choose own topic

Really enjoyed taking this class. I had to work for the (A) that was received in this class, and at moments it was very overwhelming. I could see the things that I was learning manifest as stylistic and professional improvements in my writing. Most importantly, Kent does a good job at highlighting the importance of writing competently.

Kent has been extremely helpful. He is good at lecturing, presents the information in an easily digestible way, and is willing to answer any questions outside of class. If someone fails this class they simply did not try. Kent makes you learn the information in order to get an A, but does not assign busy work. Great professor.

He was really good at explaining. The only hard part of the course was that he taught how to complete the problems and that is not what the final was on. Even though I did great in all the homework and understood it I found myself playing catch up for the final to understand everything.

This is my second time taking a class from him. He really does want you to pass and will go over material with you until it's understood. Just show up, otherwise you may be screwed.

A great math teacher! He doesn't give a ton of homework but only gives what's necessary to learn the material. He does have quizzes but just to prep you for the department final as they aren't worth much. He will make you laugh a bunch each day keeping things interesting. If you want to understand stats, take Kent's class. He covers the material really well and will go over it until you understand it. He is always accessible outside of class and wants you to pass. He's also never had a student fail the department final. He assigns homework every week and a quiz about every two. There were only 2 exams and a final.

Kent's BESC 3010 class is Statistics for Dummies! He cares about his students and wants everyone to understand the material. There is a decent amount of homework and quizzes, but if you go to class every day, ask questions, and utilize him you will do great! His humor keeps the class interesting and he's very straight forward with what he wants.

Make sure you do all of the home work assignments because if you miss any of them it really affects your grade. He only gives 3 test. 1 in class, 1 take home and the final exam. I was terrified to take stats and I couldn't be more grateful that I took Kent's class. I ended up doing so much better than I thought I would because his lectures and grading criteria were so clear. This is a difficult topic so I can't imagine just getting any professor for it. Kent I have no doubt is probably the best for this difficult topic. He really does a great job at dumbing it down for a dummy. He also is so hilarious, very genuine and very charismatic. I appreciate how authentic and real he is and I can sense his care for my success

Kent is a great teacher. He really cares about helping his students, and makes himself available outside of class. I took the class live-streamed, and he makes it clear that you don't have to attend, but most students who do attend do better than those who don't. He tries to relate stats to everyday life, which ain't easy.

He treated all the students like adults that can handle their own lives, so he's pretty chill. Overall, he provided an in-depth understanding of stats and did a good job breaking down big problems to manageable tasks. Not very many assignments. Had 1 or 2 HW questions due every week then 2 take home open book tests. Then preps for the depart. final

I am not a person who loved statistics but his teaching style made the material easy to understand. He really cares about if you learn the material and understand it. He doesnt make you memorize formulas, and you dont necessarily need the book to pass the class. He also gives extra credit opportunities and gives review sessions. Would recommend.

Kent has been one of the best professors I've had the pleasure of working with as a student at UVU. Not only is he knowledgable and personable, but he is reasonable grader and he's absolutely hilarious. Recommend going to class to actually do well (I did the class Live Streaming over Zoom). In your favor to do all of the extra credit and work.

Kent is a great professor! Highly recommend. He is really good at simplifying the concepts so that they are easy to understand, and he has no problem and in fact, encourages going over things multiple times to make sure everyone understands. If you've taken stats before this class will be an easy one. Make sure to come to class or you will be lost.

Kent cares about you and wants you to succeed! He was always happy to answer questions in and out of class, he even gave us his personal number so we could contact him easily if we had a question. He gives tons of extra credit opportunities, you will get a good grade if you are willing to do the work. Kent was amazing, I highly recommend him.

As long as you go to class you will learn the material, he is a great teacher who cares about students success more than grades! 10/10 would recommend him to anyone. I had a family emergency come up in the middle of the semester and he was super willing to work with me.

As long as you go to class and participate, you will pass the class. Kent was very understanding and understands that everyone learns differently. He doesn't make you feel dumb when you get answers wrong and will help you better understand the material.

Kent is an amazing professor who will do all he can to help. He really goes out of his way to make sure all of his students do well and understand the material. This was the kind of class where you actually learn the material instead of just passing the class.

Dr. Hinkson is a professor that will do everything in his power to make you succeed in his class as long as you are able and willing to ask for his help. I didn't do very well in his class and that is absolutely due to my performance in his class. He offers plenty of extra credit opportunities and his expectation are more than reasonable.

Kent is incredibly understanding and does so much to ensure your success. Showing up and participating is a must, but you will enjoy his class! He is the best math teacher I have ever had - he will explain the concept as many times as you need if it will help you succeed, and there are no stupid questions. Wish I could take another class from him!

Professor Hinkson always made class very fun and made jokes and what not. He always answered anyones questions whether they were already asked or not. He made sure we all understood the concepts and took the time to review them if someone did not. He prepared us well for the department final and wanted us all to succeed.

The way Kent sets up his class and lectures is perfect. While I don't really like online/remote classes, he makes it well worth it. If you don't understand something, the lectures are recorded to watch back later while doing assignments. Put in the work and you'll definitely come out with a good grade and understanding of stats!

I'm so glad I took stats from Kent. I'm not a math person AT ALL and on the first day of class, he specifically said that he would teach in a way that even people who sucked at math could understand. He's hilarious and encourages questions and is so patient! Great professor!

Kent is seriously an amazing professor! He is very clear about what he expects of his students but is willing to work with you if you are not understanding a concept. Know this class is not an easy A, sometimes the homework will take hours to complete but it will be worth it. Rewatch the recorded lecture while doing homework if you can!

Never been very good at math, but Kent explains different math concepts very well. Not a big equation guy, which i really liked. He looks out for his students and does his best to help them succeed.

I was scared at first, because there is a lot of work. But I learned a crazy amount in this class! Really fun, chill guy, with a crazy past and amazing stories from his time in the Marines. UVU really needs to hire more professors like him, but he is probably one of a kind. Wish I had taken him sooner, learned to write sooner.

I really loved this class and it was not too hard online. reading about 50 pages a week with a quiz and discussion at the end of every week. Quizzes were hard and 30 questions long. the textbook however was easy to understand and very interesting

Professor Hinkerson cares a lot about your success in the class. He also cares a lot about your future careers and inspires others to achieve their dream careers. I have learned a lot and was inspired when taking his class. I'm at awe there was such a teacher in our schools that cares and guides students to success in the class in your career.

Focused on writing a research paper throughout the semester. As long as you meet the criteria for each section & turn it in on time you'll do great. He gives feedback on each section of your paper & most of your final paper/grade is based on applying the feedback. Ask a lot of questions. Best professor ever, helpful, kind and great sense of humor.

Enjoyed this class, super interesting content. Coursework is consistent every single week, except for one research paper. He gives good feedback and is pretty willing to work with you if life gets in the way and you need help. I'd say it's an easy A and you can get by without buying the textbook, I did not open it once this semester.

Very well organized curriculum. Cares deeply. Very involved and seems to genuinely want to help students. The quizzes are difficult but extra credit in the discussions made up the difference for me.

I cannot say enough good about this guy. The final project is worked on throughout the whole semester so when finals come you have already done the challenging part of the course. Always willing to help after class hours and spends a lot of his personal time giving clear and specific feedback to help you learn how to write. Thank you Dr. H!!

I learned so much in this class. Hinkson is very passionate about research and made this class fun too. Do not take this class from any other Professor. We worked on our research paper all semester so it was much easier and we had the time to really dig in and learn all the step. Kent also had a great sense of humor. Class was fun to attend.

The most accessible professor i've ever had! He sent out routine announcements encouraging us or reminding us, and he spent the time to give individual feedback to almost every assignment and discussion. The discussions were hard, because they were broad prompts, but were absolutely the best online experience I've had. I loved this class and him!

Dr. Hinkson made this class enjoyable and made research interesting. The paper is worked on throughout the entire semester which took away stress during finals. His feedback is detailed and specific, showing how much he cares about each student. I always enjoyed coming to class and would definitely recommend taking this class from Dr. Hinkson!

Took Psy2300. Good professor who cares for his student's wellbeing. Super chill. Very opinionated and doesn't have a filter sometimes. Classwork was disorganized and could've been done online. Class time was just answering questions about homework. Needs more structure. Easy grader and has really fascinating background and stories. Take his class.

Dr. Hinkson was passionate about the subject which helped me learn better. He gave personal examples that related to the modules, which allowed me to understand/remember the material more effectively. Although he does take a long time grading, his feedback is helpful and transparent.

I took this class expecting to be bored to tears, but he was funny, informative, and really inspired me as a researcher and therapist! Dr. Hinkson was amazingly kind and considerate. He used an online textbook that is free, and the class is very well organized. Two papers, three exams, weekly quizzes. I learned a lot, so worth it!

Professor Hinkson is someone who takes his job seriously and really cares about the success of his students. He is always sending out updates and making sure people know that he is there if they need help. Of all the online classes I've taken, this was one of the best.

I have loved taking his abnormal psychology class! He is very qualified to be teaching this class. There are two papers that are easy, attendance is not required but class is fun, and he gives you many opportunities to get the grade you want/need.

I took this class because it was a requirement for me, and I have zero regrets. He is by far the best professor I have had in my college career. He is motivated and very knowledgable when it not only comes to abnormal psychology, by any other psychology related questions. He is also a very funny guy.

He was very kind, and provided lots of feedback to questions. he made the class o manegable and it was honestly a pretty easy . He uses a free online textbook, there are 2 papers, 3 exams, and weekly quizzes throughout the semester. He also offers quite a bit of extra credit! I would deffinitelty recommend taking a class from him!

Dr. Hinkson is a seriously fantastic & funny person. He is generous with his time and genuinely wants students to succeed. If you communicate with him early on he is lenient on most due dates. He grades based on submission (not quality) because he wants students to learn. If you are looking for a super rad and chill professor, you've found him! :)

By far the best teacher. He is there for YOU as a student, and truly wants you to succeed. He gives great feedback on papers, and grades his students on creativity and effort more than on APA nit-picky bs. He's hilarious and will always make class a fun, open discussion for everyone to get help with their projects. Definitely recommended!

Kent does such a great job at teaching this class. I was not looking forward to learning statistics, but he made the class enjoyable and made learning every day actually fun. His grading is super easy and he makes sure every person in the class understands everything before a test. If he didn't just have classes M and W I would def take him again!!

OMG! Dr. Hinkson is aMaZiNg! Ive never met a man who is the whole professor package that every student wants. He is fun, so smart, incredibly interesting with the best stories, passionate about what he does and helping people! I honestly think you should not take a class from him as you'll be disappointed with every professor you ever take again

I have never enjoyed a class more. I actually had him for Forensic Psychology, but it wasn't available as a course. I have never had a professor more concerned with how well the students are learning and always being prepared with engaging topics for lectures. I would recommend this professor to anyone. He is fantastic!

Professor Hinkson was an amazing teacher who teaches in a way that anyone can understand (even if you are a slow learner) and takes the time to make sure no one is left behind and struggling. He is super funny and deeply cares about the success of his students. There also isn't a ton of homework in this class which is a huge plus!
