Kent is great! He bends over backward to help his students.
Kent is the best prof, i've ever had. Best prof at Cap.

I thought I would get a B in his class but I got a C, not clear on what he wants
Kent despairs only over one thing - a silent class:)
Simply the best and he ACTUALLY cares!
really cares about his students. very intuitive.
I miss Kent!!!!!
The best English teacher I've had, fun, easygoing and very thought provoking!
layed back, hillarious, caring, makes the class atmosphere relaxed
VERY VERY NICE GUY!SO HELPFUL!!!!
soooooo nice, so helpful, and very understanding, one of the best!
Kent is probably my favorite professor. He's somewhat of a tough marker, but his classes can brighten your day.
Kent is such a nice teacher; he is exuberant in his teaching style and very passionate about what he teaches. He is not very demanding about due dates as well. He is a brutal marker though. Don't expect to write shoddy essays and get good marks.
Since it's said to "keep your comments clean...[b/c]...Anything libelous will be deleted" I can't really say anything, can I?
By far the best English teacher. Funny and insightful, not many essays to write! Gives lots of interpretations and helpful information with material.
OH MY! what an amazing teacher! learned so much and had a blast! who learns w/out fun? i dont! anyways he's great and always willing to lend a hand! Take his classe you wont be disappointed! i promise!
Kent is a very intelligent guy. he makes you want to look deeper into a story or character. he is tough in marking but extremely fair. i recommend this to people who hate reading because it makes you want to read and particpate in the discussions.
Invests time in the class content and interpretations. By making the class interesting he makes the work seem easy because one is more willing and into doing it. He is a touch of a pushover and gives dimwits a lil too much air time. Cheers!
I enjoyed his class so much I want to take another one of his classes.
very willing to help you out with whatever you need. keeps you interested in his topics - definitely one of the better teachers at Cap!!
Easy course to pass but hard to ace. Kent is laid back and casual. class was very enjoyable. Very interesting course content. kept my intrest all term. Hope to have him again in the future
Kent is a great teacher and he really tries hard to make everyone a better citizen by teaching the things that he teaches. I have learned a lot fo this guy and I had fun in his class. He is very passionate about his job and he really helps you out if you really need it.
worthless to come to the class, it helps you nothing, very very tough marker, never take his class.Other teacher is easier!!!
he is a good prof, but a tough marker. course was interesting.
Kent is hilarious... Very helpful, interesting classes. Suprises you with his insightful genius, and plays it off as totally random, like he suprised himself too. Definitely is passionate about lit. Compassionate teacher, understands and is lenient if you ask for extensions. Don't know how he snagged that job.. head of the english dept...
Kent is one of the best profs at Cap! Always helpful with lots of advice and flexibility about assignments. Classes are interesting (and nourishing); lots of discussion; very relaxed. Kent is a nice guy, fair marker, good prof, with great choices in readings and lots of interesting interpretations. I'd take any class of his again!
Now, I used to HATE English, but absolutely loved his class. He is really funny, and isn't afraid to dive into controversial subjects in debates. The papers we have to read are generally quite interesting and he is a fair marker. Participate and listen in class and you'll have an A, no problem. I definetly recommend him!
Kent is a really funny guy, has a good sense of humour! The Old English can be challenging to read though. Kent helps to bring seemingly unlively stories to life which is great. Although, be prepared for lots of double entandrees and sex! =P Kent is great! =)
AWESOME TEACHER!!!!! Take any of his courses!
Best Eng. prof i've ever had! He even makes his quizzes enjoyable. HOW DARE THEY CANCEL HIS 201! I now have no class to look farward to going to next semester.
Best prof ever, ever.
Was a pleasure to take Kents class. Not only is very excited about teaching and very helpful,he is funny and uses real world materials to talk about language use and analysis - all he seems to ask in return is that students actually try. Ask about his guarentee.
Kent's classes were great (took a continuous course in EngLit ancient-modern), although he's a little heavy on the Freudian analysis.
Kent is a great teacher and very funny. His syllabus was very good but he is not that easy.
this guy has great stuff inside his mind. also, his class discussion are very interesting and it sucks u right in. but for marking stuff, hes one tough marker. he relies too much on the bell-curve-distribution. also, if your essays dont have save view as him, good luck passing!
Dope class. Didn't expect it would be fun. Kent uses real life examples which is great. Back in high school, I would skip it all the time cuz it was borin. Didn't skip this class at all, was looking forward to it all the time. Kent's teaching methods are dope, although he is a tough marker. Its ur choice, hard n fun or easy n boring.
Kent is a really great teacher. Although, the class was a little bit boring at times, it may have been caused by the fact that everyone was exhausted at 8:30 on monday mornings. He discusses real life issues which is really neat, but he definitely tries to sway people to his opinions, morals, and thinking. Kent however is a concise, fair, great gu
very nice teacher
Amazingly captivating and an all around great guy.
I LOVED HIM!! He is one of my favorite profs at cap! He's unbelievably helpful and nice! He's a pretty tough marker! fun class though, really interesting discussions!
I took his class a few years ago, but I can honestly say Kent Lewis sets the standard for what a good prof should be. My class would show up early and want to stay after to talk to him. Engaging discussions, really involves his class and makes boring material fun! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
took his class, but heard that he is a hard marker :) decided to drop after some time, but he really makes his classes fun and engaging, even first ones, even @ 8.30
Kent's English class makes school fun! He is so funny, and he loves bringing up the controvertial subjcts (they are his world). He always makes you think about something. I'd definitely take another class with him again :)

I found the class interesting, but not really relevant to writing. It felt more like a sociology class and I don't think my writing skills improved from it.
If he's hard on you, that's cuz he wants you to turn in better papers. Seriously, this is an AWESOME LECTURER and just that makes everything else wothwhile.
Kent is my favorite prof at Cap, without a doubt. He is a hard marker, but I'm a better writer because of him. His classes are so fun, especially if you're a vocal person and don't have issues with voicing your opinion. He likes it when you speak, it usually boosts your mark. READ THE TEXTBOOK...obviously since it's an english class. HE IS AWESOME!
Probably the best overall teacher I have encountered. Encourages diverse opinions and welcomes direct challenges as long as they are coherent and supported. Rewards contradictory arguments if they are substantive and well researched. He will make you a better student, or he will fail your ass. Work hard and have a blast!
Great prof, makes class interesting. Discussions are hilarious and so is he. He is a fair marker, and his tests are easy enough. I definately recommend Kent for any english course.
Great teacher! Great class! The first day is stressful, however, because he wants you to say a little introductory bit about yourself. That's scary and not something everyone is comfortable with. Still Kent rocks! He is animated and invested. He cares about his students and about the world.
alright teacher, very hard marker.
Kent is a bit of a hard marker, but in the sense that you'll not see an A+ unless you hand in a paper that's flawless. He makes the class very interesting and engaging, and is genuinely passionate about what he teaches.
Kent is an absolutely phenomenal professor, and I cannot recommend him enough. He does have high standards but he tells you exactly what he wants, is always there to help and he answers e-mails promptly. When you first meet him you probably wont get why he is ranked as hot on here, but give it 2 weeks and you'll be as in love with him as I am.
Have class with him now, lots of class discussion and idea-throwing-around. Didn't understand the big fuss with him until I talked to him one-on-one. Very interesting guy with very interesting ideas, one of my faouvrites now. Didn't mind that I kept him almost an hour after office hours, genuinely interested in helping. Great guy, hard-ish marker.
Kent is an interesting guy, however he can get a bit creepy at times with all his sexual jokes and the fact that all the literature we read this term has something to do with sex. As well, his choice of material is very masculine and not that engaging for women - Watchmen, Fight Club, etc. He's a good prof if you're a guy. His notes are vague, too.
Kent is very kind and clearly has a passion for the subject; however, his historical analysis is weak to say the least. His presentation of the Enlightenment is painful and he spends too much time on early Romanticism. His curriculum is also entirely British! One cannot appreciate English literature without looking at the American and Irish greats!
Kent is one of the most amazing people I have ever met. Heart. You must keep in mind that he tries to provoke his students with his course content and discussions, in order to endue a greater understanding of the overall (and sometimes ambiguous or contradictory) messages. He is kind hearted, so if you have a problem you should visit his office.
Awesome, lovely teacher. He is so inspiring, all the best to him!
Very nice guy and a very interesting class. I loved the choices of Watchmen and Fight Club. However, he does give off a vague feeling of creepiness due to his course content and a few offhand remarks.
I liked Kent's classes, very engaging. Some comments have mentioned a creepiness factor, but I've never felt that around him. Perhaps some class discussions were a little too salacious for wet behind the ears cap students. I find he really, honestly cares about his students and goes out of his way to help them succeed.
Best prof I've ever had. Class discussions were engaging and interesting. He's kind and understanding. If it weren't for him and his class, I don't think I would have made it through this semester.
Interesting and funny, great at directing class discussion approaching issues integral to learning the concepts. Just nice, easy going guy. Won't provide much jaw dropping inspiration or anything but is totally reliable and steady.
Funny, nice and generally easy prof. Lectures are usually biased towards men though (for example his lecture for Fight Club dealt with how men are opressed and domesticated in our "feminist world." Oh please.) I would rec Reg as an eng prof who understands and utilizes social issues better in his lectures
Always entertaining; hands down, the ONLY class I've ever wished met more often. I can see how he might put off more conservative people, but I find him creative and interesting.
Kent is a wonderful teacher! he is super helpful, considerate and funny. i had a fantastic time in his class. if you're thinking about taking english literature i would highly recommend him. :)
He is an awesome prof. Funny and interesting. He keeps the class very engaged in his lectures.
Kent IS a hard teacher. Besides the fact that the class deals with alot of reading and literary analysis, you have to know how to write A worthy essays. If you cant write essays at an academic level, do not take him. He is very advanced when it comes to marking, and he usually gives students C's. On another note, he does have good notes
Kent is the BEST teacher ever!! If you want to be challenged and learn how think outside of the box, his classes are the one's to take. He's phenomenal! I learned so much from him.
BEST TEACHER EVER. HE IS SO UNDERSTANDING AND CLEAR. IVE NEVER BEEN GOOD AT ENGLISH AND I TOOK IT AGAIN- JUST TO HAVE ANOTHER CLASS WITH HIM. take it. you wont regret it. he makes the class fun, exciting and enjoyable even if you are like me and think thats impossible in a english class!
An amazing teacher, extremely well thought out course selection that challenges you to think outside the box. If you bothered by sexual humor, you might find his class slightly uncomfortable. This class is in no way an easy A, but as long and you put time, thought, and passion into your papers you'll come out with a decent mark.
Kent's class is entertaining because of the reading material. He on the other hand can be arrogant.
A very gd engl prof! gd book choices, entertaining classes; marking is not that easy though.
Kent is a great proff. Clear, passionate and keeps the material interesting and engaging. Would take his class again in a heartbeat.
I absolutely adore this professor. He makes you actually want to learn and has a really great way of finding ways to make the content relatable. You should keep a good attendance but that shouldn't be an issue because you wont want to miss a class!
BEST prof I've had so far. He's a hard marker but so fair - he'll work with you during office hours about what needs improvement or just to chill. AWESOME!
He is amazing, I took English 100 with him, and he was so wonderful that I took English 103 with him as well. He keeps the class exciting and fun. He is always available if you need help. Just keep up with the work. Definitely recommend him!!
Overall Kent is a great teacher. He is very approachable and helpful outside of class. However, he promotes misogynist jokes and goes along with ignorant rantings of his students.
Kent is really helpful and keeps the class interesting. Loved the reading list. Don't take his class if you don't have a sense of humor. Also no finals which is always a plus.
Kent's class was actually the worst English class I've ever participated in. Those who suck up are the ones who get good marks. He does not support opinions that don't match his and will dock you marks for it. DONT TAKE ANY OF HIS CLASSES
Kent's class is by far the most interesting and fun English class I have taken at Cap. His novel choices are awesome and he's a fair marker. Also there's no final!
Kent does not support opinions that don’t match his own. He does not like to bring new arguments and interpretations, and he will curtail your marks. If reading inspires you, don’t take this class, it will be a big disappointment.
Kent is an awesome prof!! I've taken several english courses and his has been by far the most enjoyable. He chooses novels I would never have selected myself but after interesting classroom discussion and disection I am always glad to have read them!!
Do not take Kent's class if you aren't strong in english, there is no point. His classes are super interesting and the subject material is brilliant but he is a hard marker so don't be fooled.
Kent is the best professor I have ever had, period. He has the ability to make me interested in whatever he teaches. He is very clear and passionate in his teaching. His classes are very exciting and fun, and you ll have lots of aha moments! … I'm definitely taking more courses with him.
Kent is the best English instructor I've had. He keeps the lectures interesting and he is very flexible with assignments. I highly recommend anyone to take his class.
Kent is by far the greatest professor I have ever had. He has influenced me to major in English and has broadened by outlook on so many wonderful topics. He was so amazing last semester when I was going through a hard time, and he scheduled meetings for me to catch up on work and talk about the readings. I will definitely take more of his classes!
Kent has been BY FAR my favorite teacher at Capilano. It was my first year and he helped me everything I needed. He is super understanding and hilarious. I loved showing up to his class and I actually wanted to participate in discussions. He tests what he teaches and there are no surprises. VERY GOOD
Absolutely loved the class and the teacher. You just have to make sure you read all the readings and be good at writing papers. If you have trouble writing papers this course is tough but Kent is always willing to help. I would take again. :)
Kent is by far one of the best professors I've had at Cap. His course material consisted with a lot of reading which had to be done before class. He is a tough grader and makes you work for a good grade. However, I have to say he is amazing and I'm glad to have had him, not a GPA booster but truly an amazing prof.
Claims he likes students to be bold, but really it's a trap. Don't say anything too controversial or else you'll be in for it. Messy and likes to repeat a lot of things that were said last class. Also don't be fooled by his teddy bear image, he's a very tough grader.
He is the best!!!
Best teacher I have had, don't usually enjoy english but he always related it to things students had an interest in. Always got the whole class involved made everything interesting. Very genuinely nice guy, would definitely want him as a prof again!!!
Kent is AWESOME. He is super clear on what he wants in an assignment, he gives great feedback and makes hilarious jokes in class. He makes a regular english class actually interesting by using controversial topics to teach his lessons. Would highly recommend taking one of his courses!!
Kent is a bad teacher and his classes are very boring. I would not recommend taking his course. He makes very demeaning jokes in class. He his very vague when it comes to explaining assignments; therefore causing you to constantly go to him and ask questions. Textbook is expensive, very boring and also confusing.
Took English 103 with him a few semesters ago, his reading List was really good, we covered the watchmen, and fight club to name a few, assignments/midterm and quizzes were fair as long as you do all the reading which you want to do anyways because the books are interesting
Best english prof at Cap by far! His lectures are super engaging and he constantly has the whole class laughing at the jokes he makes. The reading list for English 103 was amazing and he continually made everything interesting for the whole class. Recommend him highly!
Kent is a very picky marker. Other than Kent's heavy handed marking, everything was great -- Which is really the same with every English teacher. I read all the readings because I wanted to, not because I had to. The classes themselves were very interesting. No need to buy a textbook for this course either!
I have mixed feelings about Kent. Some classes he's great and funny, other times I find him disrespectful and pushing the boundaries a little too far.
Unsympathetic assclown who's lectures are primarily based around a narrow view and a habit of calling out queer students to objectify their stories to illustrate his own points. Hard to stand.
Unsympathetic prof who's lectures are primarily based around a narrow view and a habit of calling out queer students to objectify their stories to illustrate his own points. Hard to stand.
A bit of a tough marker but I loved his class! The pieces we studied were great classics such as Watchmen, Coraline, and Fight Club. Always kept students engaged and interested each class. He kinda picks on certain people but he's a funny guy, If you do the readings like you're supposed to and show up to class you'll breeze by. Great class.
Kent is quit a lenient marker, and he is always in a good mood. He jokes around all the time and I find him funny, but if you are sensitive, then you might find him going a bit overboard. I did learn a lot in his class
I enjoyed his progressive style of teaching and lectures. I'd already taken this course a year before and received a higher grade, so Kent is definitely a hard marker, but appreciates hard work.
I really enjoyed everything about him as a professor. He made english a class I actually really looked forward to going to. He prepares you well for future classes, and I learned a lot in his class. He gives good feedback, and tells you how to improve. Overall, really funny and just a great prof.
he is hilarious and is always easy going. great sense of humour makes him easy to talk too and he also gives great advice and helps on assignments. make sure you are engaged in class though because he likes to randomly pick on people during group discussions and if you say something dumb then it just gets awks.. but hes cool about everything.
I thin Kent is one of the best teachers at Capilano University. English is not my strongest stubject, however, he made the class enjoyable and he was great help during his office hours. He does like to call on people but you can sort of hide in the class. He's fair on testing and he normally gives you a heads up on what is on the test/quiz.
Engl103 was one of the more unorthodox courses I've taken in university, and that's mostly due to professor Lewis. There are polarizing opinions about his teaching style/reading selection, so let's get something straight; this class is just as much a Humanities course as it is an English course. Very insightful and redeeming. Take if you can.
Kent is an amazing professor who really cares about his students. i totally recommend taking his course, my favorite prof at Cap!
Kent is hands down my favourite teacher at Cap. I took his Comparative Lit course and it has been my favourite course Ive taken there. Yes there is a lot of reading, but if you are into that sort of thing, show up for class, and submit all the course material, I recommend this course!!
Kent Lewis is a great teacher that is straightforward in a good way. Highly reccomended.
Incredibly supportive, gives amazing feedback on written assignments and uses jokes, real-life-examples and anecdotes to help teach. Super fun guy.
Lots of material to cover including daily readings and biweekly essays. Tough grader
Kent is an ok teacher. He talks about topics that are subjects that we should have some knowledge about. But sometimes he goes over the comfortable limit. He is a teacher that likes politics. He starts off every class with a fact of the day. Just an FYI, the textbook is expensive.
Kind, encouraging, fun, generous with his time. Gem-KL cheerleads as long as you make an effort Stay off social media in class in order to get the best experience - be prepared to learn amazing ways of looking at your world. This is not just about writing skills-building - it's about learning to critically analyse resources. Use his office hours!
Kent is a great teacher! He definitely cares for his students more than other profs. I was having problems with my first essay and he let me do a rough draft to look over it before handing in the final copy. He makes the class fun! I would 100% take one of his courses again.
Kent is a really amazing teacher, you can tell he truly cares and wants you to do well. He gives good feedback with a clear grading criteria! The actual classes are always engaging and genuinely interesting. Definitely would recommend his class!!
You do need to read to get through the class, but Kent makes this class seamless and enjoyable. You can truly tell he cares about his students doing well and he tries to joke lots to make the class fun. A little tougher on the grading but hes always open to helping you and giving feedback on your drafts. Would 100% take one of his classes again.
English class is my absolute worst! I dislike it with a passion. But Lewis made it incredibly enjoyable. And he makes it easy to join in on the smclass discussion where normally I wouldn't ever do that .
amazing teacher
One of the best professors in CapU. The class is fun with interesting reading materials. Lewiss explanations are always clear, thorough, and insightful. He is very responsible, always gives detailed feedback on every assignment that helps to improve my writing skills. I learn a lot from him, and will definitely retake Lewis's classes again!
Kent was a really good prof! He took pride in his teaching and was really respected amongst my class.
I looked forward to going to class and he gave very valuable feedback to assignments that actually helped me feel more competent in my writing. He cares about what he teaches and is open to debate and encourages everyone to participate. Classes are generally more discussion based rather than lectures with lots of group work so it doesn't get boring
generally, i received 75-80% grade on assignments. I got anxious for the midterm and did something i shouldn't have. I was extremely tired for the midterm and forgot everything i prepared. I failed the midterm with 56% student. I still got a decent mark.
I absolutely loved his class! I was interested in reading more literature, and I'm so glad I took his class. Controversial topics that open your mind, great reads, and great discussions in class! He really wants to help his students succeed and learn, and always goes above and beyond in lectures! Kent is a GEM
I took his course a while back, and I still have such conflicting thoughts about the class. His feedback is great, his lectures can be fun, but the textbook is expensive and he is offensive (as a nonbinary student, he docked me marks for using singular they/them). If you're a cmns student, you'll find the same topics taught better elsewhere/cheaper
Professor Lewis is genuinely very good at his job, wanting every student to do well and improve throughout the semester. He is very considerate and will go the extra mile to help you improve your writing and/or understanding. He even takes the time to edit every paper so students understand what they need to work on. His feedback has really helped!
Kent's lectures are awesome! Loved the discussions. His course is organized (which is uncommon w everything online now), lots of helpful slides, and he's always sending extra versions of documents/ links if the original ones didn't work/weren't straight forward enough. It's clear he's putting in the effort to make this as easy as he can for us.
He is the best teacher I have had since 2 years at capilano, he is super helpful and caring. He grades the assignments according to the work done and is slightly specific in checking but gives you a great feedback so you can use in next assignments. He inspired me and helped me through the semester and I cant be more thankful to him.
- is the best English instructor I've had in university so far - has excellent literary tastes - literary works assigned for analysis are interpretively challenging yet accessible & very enjoyable - lectures are engaging & fun - I'm not sure if the class felt so easy because it was actually easy or because it was such a joy to attend
He is very nice and calm person. Helped me in my assignments. He also postponed the deadline date for assignment if your reason is genuine.
This has been one of the best prof's Ive ever had. Kent is incredibly funny and personable. The books you read have substance and are enjoyable to read. the lectures are always upbeat and enjoyable. i wouldn't miss this class for anything. Highly recommend Kent if you want a really enjoyable English credit or just a fun course! (Grammar matters)
Kent is genuinely one of the best professors in any field of study I've ever taken part in. Always willing to help out, always goes the extra mile with feedback, always puts in effort to make his classes more than worth attending. If you've got the privilege of being in one of his classes, prepare for provocative reading and energetic discussion.
Kent is a nice person and cares about his students. His class was very interesting as the books he chooses for the class to read are very eye opening and relate to real world issues. You read a lot in this class. Kent is a fair marker, however; more challenging leaning. Lectures are always fun.
I am a science student and English has never been something I enjoyed, however, Dr. Kent Lewis made me fall in love with literature! I thoroughly enjoyed going to lecture and the discussions in class were so much fun. You will definitely get a good grade as long as you work hard enough. If you are thinking about taking this class then DO IT!!
At the beginning of the term Kent bragged about being a good guy cuz he wasn’t going to give us a final exam but then gave us a difficult midterm exam worth 35% of our grade, it was an essay midterm we had to write in our class time which was only an hour and a half and we had to write it by hand and he didn’t even over any rewrites!
Love Professor Lewis. Single-handedly helped me overcome dysgraphia. teaches you exactly what hes looking for while making you smile. grading is incredibly clear, and you will truly understand how to avoid pesky writing errors by the end of this course. highly recommend you read the power points!
If you want your GPA to drop, then go ahead.
Kent is a very friendly professor. He obviously cares about education; his lectures, his attention to detail, and his straightforward assignments show that he's working for the students, not against them. Aside from when it impedes with the flow of a lecture, he's always ready to open a dialogue with his students. Great professor.
Great prof. Super engaging and makes lectures fun. Really chill class but at the same time teaches you valuable information. Very caring and understanding of students. Marks kinda hard so if you really really struggle with English maybe don't take him.
Great teacher. Great guy. His power levels are off the chart. I could train in a hyperbolic time chamber for years, and still not be as big of a Chad as Kent.
I have taken ENGL 103, 200, and 218 with Kent and he is BY FAR the best professor I have had in my two years at Cap. He creates a really comfortable environment for students to share their ideas and is always ready for a little debate! A caring, understanding, and funny guy, but be prepared to work for your grade. Gives awesome feedback!
Great and funny prof who cares about his students. Just put in the work and you'll do fine.
Kent is a great professor. He kept the class interesting, while still teaching us everything needed to succeed. There was one group oral presentation. Everything else was individual work. The readings are important to help understand the material. However, if you miss one, you wont be lost during the lecture
Kent is one of the most exciting and passionate profs I've ever had. I have taken every single one of his classes offered, and wish I could take more. He is extremely helpful outside of class hours and genuinely wants students to succeed. Each lecture is funny and energetic, and he opens up new and exciting perspectives into interpreting literature
great teacher funny and engaging and makes understanding the content easy just be prepared for 2 in class comparison and contrast essays and 1 group project he is retiring in one term so get him before he is gone
His words and actions conflicted as he claimed my last essay had been the best version and he promised me in email that he will grade it with a bonus, yet he gave the same grade as my second essay, he had promised to my class to give a bonus question in the last quiz as he had made a mistake before, yet in the final quiz he gave no bonus question.
Professor Lewis keeps things engaging while ensuring you learn the essentials. The lectures are valuable, but reading the course materials is key. unstuck AI was a game-changer for my study prep. Overall, a rewarding class if you put in the effort.
