Scatterbrained. Will teach material for 3 wks, then the day(s) before the test will tell you he's realized he's been teaching it wrong. Therefore, you have 48 hrs. to "relearn." DO NOT take this man unless you LOVE math and can teach yourelf. HE's nice, just a horrible instructor.
Not that bad. Yes, he's scatter-brained and he doesn't teach that well but he gives you a sample test that is almost identical to the real test and just study that the day before the test and you should be alright. He also scales the test alot and gives crdit for attendance.
he zips through everything making it way too hard to follow. he's not always willing to answer questions. he's VERY scatterbrained which also makes it hard to follow. only take him if you already know your stuff and aren't really worried about any guidance at all.
Calculus is no problem for me, but stats is more difficult for me to understand. I think his tests are very straightforward. However, you will WORK for your grade. I used his web site and Stats for dummies and another book for Probability. He does assume that you have a good math background (at least pre-Cal).
Scatterbrained. Good guy though. You have to pay attention to him to understand. make sure you do study though. he does curve and thats very good.
Real good teacher. Do your homework and pass with an A. Sample test are very close to real test.
I was never good at math but I have an A in this class. I dont study except for right before the test and I always get a good grade. The day before the test he gives a really good sample test. Basically, he takes roll so go and ull get a good grade..
Class is very necessary - you can't afford to miss ANY. Material can be confusing but if you attend class and DO THE HOMEWORK you will be fine. Sample tests are almost exactly like the actual tests, which consist of only about 5 problems and you can get lots of partial credit. He cuts down like half of the material you talk about before the test.
The good thing is that he gives sample tests that are very similar to the actual test & he gives partial credit, which helps out A LOT! On the other hand, he tends to leave people cOnFuSeD... Don't miss a class or you'll be totally >>LOST<<!
Very very nice and helpful. Lots of resources and time for students. He gives sample tests, but his tests are tricky.
he is kind of dopey and goofy but he is nice and cares about people passing his class. he pretty much hands your grade to you on a silver platter so all you have to do is show up and do the assignments. he goes over everything before the test and you get a sample test which is almost exactly the actual test. try not to miss a class.
He gives pop quizes all the time. He also gives a sample test but I wouldn't just study the sample test make sure you know how to do the problems. He can be rude sometimes and has a tendency to run off into space once in a while but is very helpful. Don't be afraid to ask questions!!!!
He loves to give pop quizzes. Attendance is highly recommended. The class wasn't extremely hard, but you do need to know your stuff. He gives sample tests days before the actual tests and he goes over them. I just studied the sample tests and made an A in the class, but I recommend that you study. Also, he scales his grades which helps alot!
I don't know WHAT people are talking about but this man is an IDIOT! I'd feel more comfortable by learning Calculus from a child than from him! Where the heck are these "practice tests" that everyone keeps talking about?!?!?! We haven't got one YET and I got a D on my first test! Mrs. Crumb is a savior compared to this fruitcake!
This Instructor has a very good knowlege of calculas, but is not good at all when it comes to teaching it. He is constantly confusing people in class be making mistakes while working a problem. He also expects you to just get the information right away. He needs to go back and take courses on how to teach something. He is horrable.
Does thousands of examples, DO THE HOMEWORK and you will learn Calculus! Don't do it and you will not know what is going on. Doesn't collect HW Tests are easy if you have done the homework and reworked problems gone over in class. Easy to understand. Reviews prior maths before each section.
AWESOME TEACH! He teaches calc where I can understand and quickly learn the material. DO THE HOMEWORK AND REWORK THE EXAMPLES HE GIVES AND YOU WILL MAKE AN A!
I love Mur****! He hands out these little guides that help so much! He sometimes strays with crazy stories, but they are very entertaining. If you do the practice tests he gives on the internet, it's makes the test easy, maybe even easier than the practice tests.
Great teacher!Yes he does get confused a bit but that is because he is super smart. He tends to over analyze things, that's all. Can teach the concepts of 1 chapter in 1 day and leave you understanding the content. Test should be no suprise if you just do the non mandatory HW and class examples. If you want to actually LEARN, you will take him.

Gives the wrong formulas for you to learn... then corrects them the week after. More than fair in his grading system. Attendance is mandatory.
I'm just about done taking this course, and I have a solid A. He is great at explaining! Test are not unpredictable nor tricky. He has a weird sense of humor but all and all a funny guy who makes class go by fast! Definitely taking him for MA 125!
Good about this class, you did not have to buy the book. He gave us bookletts to study, and the notes, and sample test were on line. THE THIRD TEST WAS VERY TRICKY SO STUDY the sample test a lot. over all he was good I got a "B".
failed every test and got a passing D, you get the point
If you are great at Math then you will do fine, but if you are not STAY AWAY. I took him during the summer and I had to drop his class. It was awful. He confuses himself. By the middle of the semester over half of the class was gone because they were failing his class.
He really cares about your understanding of the material. This man has spent hours making online videos for people who are struggling. He's a really good teacher and a benefit to South. I take him any chance I get.
I made an A!- I did so due to Mr. Mur****'s old tests which he posts online and resemble tested material in class! Furthermore, Mr. Mur**** does have an attitude. He yelled students when they would ask questions. However, he does post youtube videos which do help. If you can look past Mur****'s attitude, he is very easy instructor examwise!
Terrible at his jobs. No excitement in teaching. Sloppy with his way of dressing. Uses profanity, and complains a lot about things unrelated to Math. Understand that you are going to pretty much just teach yourself through the class. He is no help at all. He also hates people that rudely leave class early. The worst math teacher I have ever had!
Get's confused easily and has trouble copying problems from book to board... often makes up problems making it difficult to solve and impossible to check... :(
Mr. Mur**** is an awesome teacher! One thing I love about his class is that he really starts with the basics. I felt like i totally forgot how to do math, but he just reviews everything you need starting with Algebra you learned in Middle School. He is a hundred times easier to understand than my high school teacher. I recommend him!
confuses himself and he is the only one that laughs at his "jokes." only gives you 3-5 min for a 5 question quiz EVERY day! his tests are fairly easy and the sample test are awesome. his movies on his website are extremely helpful if you miss a lesson. i will def use it even when he is not my professor! overall not a hard teacher compared to others
Mr. Mur**** is a great math instructor. Instead of just telling you about a math problem he really showes the origin and why we use these skills. That information is very helpful to engineering majors.
HE IS TERRIBLE!!!!!!! DO NO TAKE HIM!!! all these comments on here saying he is an awesome teacher are lies. he is a bad choice!!!!
Got a B. Could have got an A if i tried harder. You can make an A in MA 112. He's a fair guy, gives partial credit, just doesn't teach that well, you have to teach yourself somewhat. He never looks at students, always looks at the back wall. Kind of weird, acted better than the students. Forgets what problems/numbers he's using. you can make an A
He's definitely one of the most... how can I put this... interesting professors I've had at South. I made a 55,52 and 68 on his 3 tests, but passed the final. I luckily ended up with a C. I would suggest looking at his calculus and algebra videos if you can't understand him in class, along with reading the book. That pretty much saved me.
I took mur**** for ma113 and did not go to class very often-made a B-and didn't like him. I then took statistics during the summer and turned out he was my teacher-so i was nervous. went to class when i was supposed to, understood everything perfectly because he is amazing. made 100's on every test, incredibly easy. go to class-he's a good one.
I am a A/B student at this school and I can not pass this man's class. He is a horrible teacher, if you are not great at math you will most likely fail and He gives daily quizzes which half the class fail each time. When he is there he makes a million confusing mistakes while working out examples and he ridicules the class. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS!!!
You must attend class to understand what you are learning, but if you do, you should pass easily. You work the same kind of problem the whole semester. Hes not a quality teacher, but if you dont care much for math and need to take this class, Id take him just cuz its fairly easy. He goes off topic alot though....
Did not like his way of teaching and did not like asking questions because he thinks you should already know what he is teaching. I made a C.
Does a daily quiz for a hw check. Always late to class and wants to make you stay later because of it. Had no idea what he was talking about most of the time and was very hard to follow. Goes over something new everyday so if you get behind you will stay behind. Goes off topic and admits out loud he has no idea what he is talking about.
Good professor, knows his stuff though hes a bit forgetful in class. You have to know your basics to be able to build upon them in his class. No calculators allowed on the test. Absurdly easy tests, final covered EVERYTHING though but its only 30% of grade. DO the hw. Only people who don't know math to begin with won't get an A. Highly recommended.
Awful teacher. He gets mixed up in what he's saying and he messes up a lot. He's terrible at explaining things. Only take his class if you already know how to do what he's teaching. You don't use the book in class and he assigns homework but never checks it. He takes attendance but only to look back at for schoolarship reasons. Just don't take him
this man is horrible!!! he makes it seem easy at first but after the first test things change. he doesnt collect homework and there is no other grade besides test. i ended up dropping his class i had all A's except for his class
His only grades are tests which kind of stinks but he gives you homework for the whole term online along with sample tests. if you attend class and take notes his tests really aren't that hard. He'll answer any questions that a person has. Just make sure you do the homework so that you know which questions to ask.
I think he is a great teacher. He explains everything you need to know. If you do your homework and go to class ,it is an easy A. TAKE HIM
I am taking him now. He is a nice guy, but he can not teach for anything. there are only three test and a final. I have a lot of trouble understanding him in class. you basically have to teach yourself. It is not an easy A. I would never take this teacher again.
By far the BEST math teacher I have ever had! I think I learned more in his class than all my high school years of math combined. Don't listen to the other comments about him being unclear; those people just had no interest in learning the material. Tests are a piece of cake. :)
Great teacher. Gives hundreds of examples. No homework. Gives packets as outlines for notes with hundreds of different problems with answers. No calculators. Has YouTube videos of him reviewing difficult problems. Gives sample tests and also gives partial credit for answers on tets. He is kinda scatterbrained but is so smart he confuses himself sometimes. Great teacher, would definitly take him again.
Had him for Cal 1 in Fall 07. Daily quizzes were an annoyance, yet he later chose not to count them toward the final grade b/c most of the class failed them. While I only passed one of his three semester tests, I did really well the final exam. I luckily passed his class with a C. He's good, I guess.
This was the worst teacher i have ever had in my life. We did not use the book once in the class. He made so many mistakes over and over while trying to teach. You have to teach yourself. He was so awful. There were about 8 out of 25 students who dropped the class.
Hard subject, he makes alot of mistakes, if you pay attention and do the sample test its not that bad, very fair, curves test, no book needed.
He provides sample tests, do them. Youtube.com saved my grade. Need to be in class to know how he wants answers on tests. He gets very mixed up and has an attitude at times. Overall, I survived the class with a C and I really don't like math. I would not recommend him. Double check your tests because he sometimes makes mistakes in grading. : /
He is very hard to follow. He makes many mistakes and confuses the entire class often. He does curve the tests a lot, but it's because we all do terrible on his tests because most of us are lost. It's a hard subject and he's a pretty hard professor. I wouldn't recommend him at all.
Took course during summer and was alot of material to cover in short time. He gave a quiz every day, which kept you on your toes. I think he was a great instructor and wish there was more like him
Doesn'y thoroughly explain the information. We dont want to watch your videos on YouTube, we want you to teach us in class.
Not a bad teacher. But he is confusing. I wouldn't advise anybody to take him. It's 3 test and a Final. No extra credit, homework grade, no nothing. Bomb one test your pretty much done.
He teaches well, you just have to pay attention in class. I have noticed that the people in my class who dislike him tend to not study and pay attention.
Mr. Mur**** is a wonderful instructor. He teaches his classes well, however he is a bit too fast. His tests are the best part: on every test he gave us 10 bonus points for absolutely nothing. I really enjoyed his class and would recommend him for anyone taking MA 125 at USA.

Very unclear & rambles alot! Makes quite a few mistakes when working problems on the board & gets confused when corrected. Homework is not mandantory, did not use book, gives quizzes EVERY class, & u never get out early. Tests are not 2 bad-u get a sample 2 work & study b4. The class was horrible 2 sit through with him. Would NOT take him again!
Mr. Mur**** was a very nice man. He definitely knows what he is talking about, he is a bit confusing but very good. I would suggest taking him. He doesnt take homework but gives a RIDICULOUS amount of quizzes but they will really help you. Take him if you can :)
He is very helpful! he has a notebook thing that he gives you for free that is VERY helpful! i hate math and he made it very helpful! i recommend him to anyone! He has sample test that are practically the same thing as his real test!
Used youtube videos to explain caluculus better. Was very helpful by having us do homeowrk on the chalkbords around the class room. Excellent professor
If you're good at upper-level Algebra and Geometry, his class is pretty easy (I'm not, so I struggled). He does a lot of the in-class work in his head, so he is a little hard to follow, but he wants everyone to do well and will go back and explain everything if you ask. Really nice guy. He replaced my lowest test score with my final!
He gives one question quizzes so you either pass them or get a zero EVERY DAY! The tests are easy, but you cover the stuff WEEKS before the actual tests so you can move on to his "fun topics" I'm usually great at math and I hated the class. I DO NOT recommend taking him, noone in my class liked him at all. We all mocked him and were glad to finish.
He talks in circles and he has to ask us where he was every 5 minutes.
He really knows his stuff, but assumes that everyone else should know it too. He's a good teacher for anyone that's an ace in math but the average Joe is gonna struggle.
He does tend to rant and complain about people not going to the board during recesitation but other than that, I love him for the simple fact that he goes out of his way to help you and he dumbs down everything to make it so simple to understand. He teaches from his notes that he made but those notes ARE the test. Take him even if u hate math :)
He is an okay teacher. I had no problem making an A. He teaches right from his notes, and if you know the notes then you make an A. He makes a lot of mistakes, and it is hard to get his attention in class. Other than that, he is a pretty funny guy that is easy to pass.
If you don't do the homework( which is not required) you will struggle. Not very clear but hes a nice guy and pretty funny at times. The only time you use your text book is for homework, never need it for class. Get the online book for half the price, has his lessons on youtube to go back and watch
He is overall a good teacher. Sometimes he has a hard time getting his point across, and assumes that we know what he is talking about. Do the homework and go to class then you will be fine. He gives a daily homework quiz before class starts everyday, and then goes on with his lesson. It helps to break the class up and keeps us studying
Never had a teacher spend only ten minutes explaining the whole lesson and then tell the class if you don't understand this either visit my Youtube site or hire a tutor. I thought it was a teacher's job to teach, not send students to a website so he can make money. The whole semester average hinged on 4 tests including the midterm and final.
He must have changed since the other students had him. He no longer interacts with his students. He talks over you if you ask a question even. All the work except the midterm and final are online. He is unorganized. If you right down everything he writes down then go home and study it you will do fine. But do not expect him to teach you.
Will not teach or work with students. Expects you to already know this material and will remind you everyday. Talks down to students needing help.
HORRIBLE. Unless you enjoy teaching yourself everything, DO NOT take his class! Anyone else!! DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS!!!!
If you know this material class is OK, If not do not waste your money he will not help you. He keeps sending you to his videos or tutoring. I paid money to be taught, not sent down the road.
TERRIBLE. Can't teach. Talks to himself. Scatter-brained. If you pick up math easily you will be fine just annoyed, if not don't bother. Hated every second.
OH MY GOD. Worst teacher I have ever had in my life. His class was a struggle to sit through. He made mistakes in every sample problem, confusing me more than I already was. I have had A's in math up until this class. Do not take him. Nice guy, but horrible teacher.
DO NOT TAKE HIM. Class should have been a breeze for anyone who went as high or higher than Pre-Cal in high school. Instead, he made the class difficult to understand. He could not explain things clearly. If you don't understand, he tells you to watch his youtube. Attendance wise, he uses a sign-in sheet. Overall, poor quality. Never used textbook.
If you will do the work that he states up-front that you will need to do, you will succeed. He does talk a lot to himself about his drawings on the board and where the eraser is, but he is good at math! He is available during his office hours, and yes he does use his you tube channel as a crutch and may get paid per click, but he did the work!
This class is awful! Unfortunately he is the only professor that teacher MA113. If possible I would advise anyone to avoid his class. He is very scatterbrained and is not willing to help his students. If you ask for help, he will suggest you to go to a tudor or another teacher. Overall a bad teacher!
Not a good teacher. He is very scatterbrained and confusing.Do not take his class if you aren't good at math. He sometime has an attitude if someone asks a question and is not always willing to help.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. The teacher is terrible. Nice guy, but it is absolutely pointless to go to class. He does NOT teach from the book and insists on you watching his youtube videos (which are even worse than class). Overall bad idea. Avoid at all costs!!!
AWFUL class! I have always been a strong math student, but he has made math too complicated. He can barely finish a problem on the board without making mistakes. He is not helpful at all, and gets aggravated when a student asks questions. If you are not good at teaching yourself DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!!!!!
The worst teacher at South Alabama. He's very rude if you ask him for help, messes up on every single example problem he does, and will go off into stories that no one cares about and has nothing to do with you are learning. NEVER EVER TAKE HIS CLASS
Don't take him unless you have a very good background in trig/precal ! This is not a cakewalk class. He expects you know the material & yes, he does ramble. Don't try to leave class early because he will call you out. He skips steps when teaching so expect to go to tutoring if you don't understand the material.
I took this class with prior knowledge from high school, so I did okay. But if you have never taken precalculus before, avoid this class!! He is unhelpful, unpleasant, and very confusing.
He not for everyone, I will agree, but if you go to class, take notes and ask questions you will find that he can be very helpful. He was also incredibly understanding after I was hospitalized the week before finals and had to make up his final the next semester. Attendance is not mandatory but it definitely counts if you are borderline on grades.
Rambles. Doesn't present the material in a way that students can understand easily. Doesn't make much of an effort to help, just tells you to go to a tutor. Messes up on every example problem he works and students have to correct him. Doesn't use the textbook. Told us calculators are like al quaeda & people from don't know what they're doing.
A lot of people do not like him for a professor, but I think he is pretty easy. He explains topics very well and even gives you a practice test that you spend a whole class period going over before the real test.
Doesn't give more than one example for any type of problem. Examples usually wrong. Nice guy but is very boring. Class is pretty easy but a lot of teaching yourself.
A lot of people dont like him, but I dont seem how! If you do all the homework he assigns you will have an A. Hard copy of text book is not needed, just buy the mymathlab part. He also gives practice test you work in class that are VERY similar to the test. If you have a question on the homework, he is more than willing to help during office hours.
DO THE TRIG NOTEBOOK!!! If that is the only advice I can give, that would be it. He is not a horrible teacher nor does he mess up EVERY example he does. He makes minor mistakes and I did have to teach myself a lot but the trig notebook helped a lot as well.
He is very repetitive, so I don't necessarily like him. He is a really easy teacher though. If you go to class, take notes, and do the homework, you will pass for sure. He also rambles on and on about stuff that has nothing to do what we have been learning. Nice guy though.
Would never take this man again. Rambles. Does not teach. Gets sassy towards students. Save yourself the misery, worst teacher ever. If you ask for help, he tells you to ask a classmate.
Get ready to teach yourself and I hope you love graphing because that is all you'll be doing. His notes are all over the place and math has never been more difficult. The class if fairly easy, just really confusing. I would recommend someone else.
I find him to be a very big mistake for a teacher. He tries to be helpful but he cannot fulfill that purpose. You may as well just try to teach yourself math. Others say he is okay but I'm not believing in that statement.
I took pre-cal and calculus in high school, and he still manages to confuse me. He skips steps when he's teaching, can rarely work a problem right on the first try, and is rude when students ask questions. My advice is to only take this class if you are able to teach yourself the material.
He's an easy grader, you just need to show your work. I made some minor mistakes in my tests but he still gave me full credit. Everything he gives in the test is from his study guide, no surprise. You should do well if you pay sometime on the study guide.
He'll give full credit on your test if you show your work, minor mistakes will be okay. The test is from his study guide, no surprise, you should do well if you spend sometime on it. He also let you sign in the attendance sheet every day but I skip many classes, it was still fine.
This class was awful. He will make you feel stupid for asking questions in class and then ask why you are in the class if you don't know the answer to the question. When explaining or teaching he skips steps and does them in his head so if you are a visual or step by step learner he completely loses you. would never recommend to anyone.
His lectures were hard for me because in the middle of teaching he will break into a bunch of nonsense and then lose his place. He sometimes messes up while he is explaining a problem. You will have to teach yourself. He does offer study sessions where you go over test questions which can be helpful.
I took him for ma113. I made a 100 on the first exam, a 100 on the second exam, a 97 on the third exam, and a 99 on the fiinal exam, which is of the entire semester. He makes learning trig easy. To be honost with you if you fail this class, try. If you didn't make an a you didn't study. Its pretty easy.
He is very confusing when lecturing. He goes over problems and most of the times has to go back over because he makes many mistakes. I would not recommend him for anyone that stuggles with math. He is terrible.
His classes are boring and he doesn't know what he is talking about half the time.
He can't teach because he makes so many mistakes that he has to go back over the problem again and makes it confusing by not working the problem out right, or goes off topic and likes to talk a lot and most of it won't be on the topic we are learning in class. We're basically teaching ourselves math and I have a really hard time trying to pass.
He is very off track about his work and does not teach very well
He is a very sweet man who will open up any test or quiz as long as he sees you trying. He can get very off target though quite often. He makes class a daily grade, so I would go to every class. He gives bonus work, but you have to be at least trying and he has to see effort.
