Stratford is a great teacher!! His lectures are very clear and he's always willing to answer questions. He's really funny and tells some awesome stories!! His papers are straight forward and simple.
One of the better teachers I have ever had. He is very down to earth, and shares great professional experience. the class was not easy but he made it interesting.
One of the best teachers I have taken in CSUfresno! He is a nice instructor who is always willing to help out. His test and essays are easy to follow and straight to the point. He is a very professional instructor. A very Humble man who teaches you a lot of psychology.
Mr. Stratford was a very intresting and funny instructor. He was helpful at anytime even though he has another job during the day. He was willing to help us succeed.
Awesome teacher! I have had a class at least once a year for the last couple of years with him. Very relaxed class. Uses personal experiences to relate things. Very reasonable and more than willing to help out if something is up.
Wonderful instructor.
Stratford is rad! He is very interesting and his class isn't too difficult. I wish he would teach full time so i could take more of his classes.
very cool teacher, very clear, only writes what you need to have in the notes, talks alot and makes you laugh...
He is very relaxed. He explains things very well. He makes lots of jokes and does not usually teach for the entire period. His tests are a little hard, but you can still do well in the class.
We had no homeowrk! It was only two short essays during the year and three easy tests. Just review the notes and you'll do great. He cancels class alot too!
I don't enjoy this class much, but he is an okay instructor. I've had better and I've had worse. He's fairly straightforward, but not very good at grading in a timely manner. Keep track of your papers.
He was great he knows what he is teaching and from his knowledge he makes it fun as long as you take notes you will do fine on exams.
Nicest teacher ever and so funny. You'll learn a lot from his class because of his experience and his humor.
He's got this dry humor thing but is actually very funny. He does doe a lot of writing and what he writes and lectures on is what the exams are on. He does have this thing about grading papers in a timely fashion. Not good at responding to emails. His voice will make you extremely sleepy, he has this relaxing tone as if lying in his office .
He is a great teacher! Everything he talks about in lecture is exactly what is on the exams. He's funny and interesting. If you pay attention to his lectures and go to class, you will get an A.
A really unique teacher, Stratford is quite the character and loves to make his students laugh, while teaching what he knows, and what we should know. tests are simple, but require some effort..all around really great guy.
awesome teacher. enjoyed going to class everyday...his tests are very hard but he has 4 papers due for the class which are very easy and helped my grade.
Stratford is a cool guy. His lectures are very interesting. Since he also operates his own private practice, he offers a lot of examples and stories concerning the material presented in class through. I did not buy the book and still managed to get a A in the class. I found it best to study for his test in a group than alone. Take his classes!
Dr. Stratford is a wonderful professor. I loved going to his class. He has vignettes that he has the students due that relate to the disorders that are learned. They also help for the exams. The exams are tough but not impossible.
He is absolutely amazing and adorable. He dances whenever someone's cellphone comes on and it's hilarious. Love the stories he tells and he uses the name, "Susie" a lot as an example. It's all so silly and fun! One of the greatest professor I've had in years! :D
Stratford is such an amazing professor! He is funny, nice, and is very interesting. He makes class fun and he always takes the time to explain a concept if you need him to. I have taken 3 of his classes; PSYCH 166, PSYCH 175, and CFS 32. His tests are really easy. I have always gotten A's on all of mine. He allows 3-5 free abscences. Great guy!!
he's a really nice guy. as for teaching i had a hard time learning from him. his notes can be all over the place which i don't do well with. his voice is very soothing because he's a therapist so sometimes i wanted to sleep haha. a few tests and some vignettes. i had trouble learning the material but if you're good with all over notes take him.
Stratford is a very nice professor. His lectures can be boring sometimes and his exams are pretty difficult if you don't read the textbook. His notes are everywhere and his writings isn't the best. I wouldn't recommend taking him.
He was a good teacher you just have to class and do all the work and study for exams and you'll pass the class he was a good teacher not easy on grading but still a good teacher.
He is a really nice guy. He lectured straight from the book so you really need to read. The tests were also from the test bank from the book. He was okay. He used to be really good. He's really slow at grading. But he's like super nice and funny!
The class was interesting. This professor has a dark sense of humor.
He is an amazing professor! very clear, helpful, just overall the best!!
Stratford is hilarious. Lecture is worth going to!!! Make sure you at least skim the book if you're not certain about some topics. Gives you a list of vocab words for study guide. Just go through it and you'll be fine for the test. Not an easy A, but very doable. Oh and study in a group! It really helps!
Extremely helpful and a fun class. You do need the text book to study. He is an easy grader in writing assignments. His test are challenging if you dont study. His study guides are lengthy but if you study whats on it and go to class you will do great in this class.
Great Professor! His lectures are never boring and are always very interesting! He is very helpful and is lenient. Very few assignments that were all easy. Exams are easy. They are directly from his lectures. If you attend class you will pass for sure and there is no book required. He also has a great sense of humor!
By far one of my favorite professors. Class was never boring since he made the material fun by encouraging participation and adding humor. He doesnt lecture on Power Points so you do need to be in class to get good notes to study for the exam. No group presentations, just one paper and a few case study "vignettes." Not a hard class, just show up.
Best teacher I have had at Fresno state. I took two classes of him and only wish more classes were taught by him. Very nice and understanding.
Interesting lectures! The professor was hilarious. The exams were not hard, although I doubted myself many times on the exams. Be in class to take good notes. It is not hard to get an A. Do the vignettes and do good on the exams. Also, he will give some extra credit so take the advantage. He also let us out early most of the times which I loved.
I really like this professor. He was just good at teaching your the material and give lots of life examples. Tests are basic on lectures so go to class and you'll pass.
He is a great professor! you can ask him a million questions and he never gets tired of it or at least never acts like it. he is always willing to help. the tests are really easy if you study. study his notes and go over the book on whatever you talked about in class and you should pass! i would definitely take him again!
Stratford is a great professor. If you take good notes and do the 10 vignettes you are almost guaranteed an A. The vignettes are not hard and he gives you at least a week for each one. There is one paper and it is straightforward and simple. He is funny and I would recommend him to anyone!
He's a great instructor. He has lots of experience in the field of Psychology so he is very knowledgable. His lectures are pretty straight forward. I tried to write down everything he said because he teaches what is relevant and will be on tests. He skips over parts of the book that he doesn't think we need to know, which I appreciate!
Great teacher! He is a bit distracted during lecture. Reading is a good idea if you want an A. Tests have specific questions about people, so be sure to write the names down And what thier theories were.
Awesome teacher! Very clear in lecture & relates material to outside events. Not much hw but should read the book for exams.
Cool guy, kind of unorganized but not in an annoying sort of way. He's very understanding and easy to talk to. His lectures are fun. I would take him again, couple of vignettes in the semester but they are ridiculously easy. If you don't get a good grade it's because you didn't put in any effort.
He's super cute! When someone's phone comes on, instead of giving that student the stare, he dances to the music! Take him if you can!
Great Professor. Easy A class if you study+textbook, but if you just go to lecture everyday without textbook it'd be a A/B depending the notes you take. Interesting. 4 tests in total 1 paper. Easy to talk to and his lectures are super easy to understand. 8-10 small vignettes/situations using the information you learned in class. Easy.
Easy Class. I didnt buy the textbook. Lecture is mandatory and you can use/buy any edition online for super cheap price compared to the bookstore. 1 paper summary of an article, pretty easy if you dont mind writing. A few vignettes cases everything learned from lecture. Tests are easy, he covers it in lecture.
Tests are based on lectures. He gives a study guide of terms to know; one 3-4 page article summary on psych topic of choice; lectures will give you a clearer understanding of concepts and applications. He also throws in some humor here and there to keep people awake. Extra credit for attendance and a movie analysis. Overall an easy & enjoyable.
Great teacher. Makes it easy to understand the materials. Kinda quirky at times and makes jokes which help liven up the class. Speaks sort of monotone, but I think it comes from years of having to keep a poker face with clients. Very interesting class.. By the end of class, you will be able to diagnose everyone with whom you come into contact!
very INSPERATIONAL. Exteremely funny. Clear speaker. Case studies. study hard.
Professor Statford led a very enjoyable class. The material was definitely easy to understand and he explained it very clearly, the book is not really needed, you should be fine just on lecture notes. He often references money which makes me feel like that is his main purpose for pursuing therapy, but he knows his stuff. Would definitely take again
Stratford is simply wonderful! He's very approachable and easy to understand when he lectures. There are only three exams and a final, some extra credit opportunities, and some reading. He gives out study guides and doesn't call you out if you're late.
He is a great professor. He gives you up to five chances to be absent from his class and get participation points. He's really nice and SUPER understanding. :)
Just wanted to take the time to say this is a great professor. Actually teaches in lectures and gives you pretty much all the info you need for the test, so i would attend class and take good notes. Pretty funny too.
He is one of the best professors I have ever had. He is very hilarious, so class goes by super quick. (Unfortunately!) Whatever he lectures about will be on the tests, so you'll be left surprised-- you know what to expect. Only bad thing is that it's sometimes hard to listen to him, so sit towards the front or tell the person next to you to shush!
He is fun & has interesting lectures. He does offer extra credit. 4 exams( not too hard) but do study & read. Vignette's are fairly easy if you listen to his lectures. Watch a movie during semester. Attending his class is important cause he will give some exam questions.
I really enjoyed taking Stratford. I felt like the concepts were very useful outside of class and it helped me understand my own family better! Show up for class and take GOOD notes. I used the book off and on throughout the semester for the vignettes and the study guides. Put in effort, study, and you will do great!
Mr. Stratford is definitely one of the few teachers I would love to take again, the only reason I'm not pursuing other courses with him is he focuses on a topic I'm not interested in: Family counseling/Marriage Therapy. He is hilarious, very "down to earth" and connects with his students on a very unreal level. It's like looking at a student prof.
I took Psych 66 with Stratford last semester and I knew I wanted to take his Psych 175 class as well. His lectures are really interesting because he has a lot of experience in the field. You have to make sure to complete every assignment because there are so few of them. He does however give two extra credit assignments.
Prof. Stratford was a great professor. He lectured well, was prepared for class, made sufficient notes on the board to highlight his key points. Followed the syllabus. Offered one or two things for extra credit. Funny, and makes abnormal psych relatable. Definitely recommend. One 2,000 word research paper. 4 exams. Multiple vignettes.
One of my absolute favorite professor's. He makes jokes during lectures to keep you awake, but speaks very softly so you should consider sitting near the front of the lecture hall. He talks about his experiences as an MFT which are very interesting. 3 exams & 1 final. Easy vignettes and a 5 page paper. Posts study guides 1 week before exams.
I learned a lot of things that actually stuck. He's a good lecturer and keeps you interested. His class was easy and he gives you study guides before every test. He mentions a lot of his patients which helps you get a better understanding of disorders. There's 4 exams, vignettes and an article summary. No homework.
Great class. Also great professor. Not a lot of work, but you do have to show up to class because what he lectures on is on the tests and he doesn't post power points. He gives good study guides that make it easier to study. Also the tests are straightforward. Overall interesting and easy class.
prof Stratford is a funny guy and you can tell that he is really passionate about psych. his lectures are hilarious and very interesting. he gives out a SG weeks before the exam, but some topics he won't cover, so read the book. 4 tests, couple papers, and final (ø cumulative) def recommend taking him, tons of ppl got A's in the class :)
Prof Stratford has a great way of teaching, his lectures are very interesting as he knows a lot through experience. His way of teaching really helps you understand and remember what you learned. The class is not hard if you show up to his lectures and read the book. Very little homework. Great professor.
Stratford is a great professor! He doesnt do PowerPoints so make sure to show up to class and write quickly. Definitely learned a lot from him! Study because he give very few extra credit.
Great Lecturer, and funny. However horrible writing, so if try to get up close seats. 6-7 lab 2 page reports, 2 article summary, and 2 extra credit opp. 4 Exams all 40 questions. Test are hard, although he does goes by the book, he only summarizes, and test are more in depth. Better off reading the books to understand material. He moves on fast.
Sarcastically funny professor. My advice is go to class and pay attention to his lecture then you'll pass with flying colors. His tests are mostly from his lecture so don't miss a class. Everything is straight forward. He's a great teach and explain his material clearly and also use real life situation to help you understand. You won't regret it.
Amazing teacher. Great lectures. He is also very funny. 2 Black Board Essay Questions (usually 2pgs long or 3) 3 Exams and 1 Final. Gives Study Guide. DO IT and STUDY IT. Helps A LOT on the exam. Some of his lectures notes are in the exam too. Make sure to take good notes. 6 Extra Credits. Worth 2pts ea
He is a fun professor, but his exams are mostly based off the book and some from his lectures. He expects you to read the book because he does not lecture on many of the concepts that will be on his exams. You will really need to work for your grade. He gives extra credit but he also does not give out many points so there are no room for mistakes.
Just make sure to study a lot of the examples he provides since his tests are mainly focused around them rather than the usual term and definition type test. Really nice and understanding. Super easy blackboard days and essay questions. STUDY FOR EXAMS!! Otherwise youll be fine.
The exam questions are mostly scenarios. Make sure you actually understand the notes, not just memorize. He does 6 points of extra credit throughout the semester. Grades are literally based on exam scores.
Must have a textbook, answers to the study guide comes directly from there. Study guide isn't always clear on what's on the exam, READ the book. There are 6 assignments and 1 paper. There are EC opportunities. Exams make or break you. Lectures are interesting, he adds his own experiences to the lecture andmakes you relate to the lectures sometimes.
He is a hilarious professor and keeps class interesting. His test are hard if you don't study from his study guide and book. YOU HAVE TO READ THE BOOK. There are many short essays you have to write (vignettes) and a paper. All of then are easy if you know your stuff. There are 4 exams.
Tests are mostly scenarios. 3 Essays (really easy), offers extra credit. Need a textbook (but if you look hard you can find it free online). In order to get an A, id recommend to use the study guides with the textbook! Textbook is really interesting! Id also recommend to sit in front of the class as he speaks a bit quietly
The class consists of vignettes, 4 exams, and a 5 page paper. He only gives 5 points of extra credit. Overall, I liked his class for Abnormal Psychology because he would use examples from his therapist techniques to the lecture. I wish that he made a little more clear about his study guides because they were not very clear for the exams.
I really liked this class! Theres four exams total, three essays, & two extra credit assignments. It is important you go to lecture, he gives study guides two weeks before tests which prepare you. Be ready to read the book!
stratford's class was the only class that I'd look forward to because of how enjoyable he made it. his lectures are amazing and he's funny too! There's only one big paper you have to write based on an article of your choice, but there are weekly vignettes (3-page papers diagnosing characters) starting mid-semester. tests are kind of difficult too.
I would not take this professor again, it was suppose to be an easy course. Turn out to be the opposite the exams are from the readings and his lectures never seem to be on the exams. Not very understanding for his students or their problems. Only 4 exams and a couple vignettes which are 3-4 pages.
Lectures are interesting and he provides good examples in class. Assignments are easy, however, he does not provide lots of extra credit. Sometimes he does not reply back to emails and it seems like he does not really care about his students. His tests are kind of hard so make sure you read the textbook.
Really enjoyed Prof. Stratfords lectures. He managed to make them interesting even though they were pre-recorded which was nice. Just pay attention and take good notes. Theres always an assignment due each week whether its a quiz or a vignette. Neither are too bad, just stay on task with lectures. Downside is his outside of class communication.
Professor Stratford is one of the professors I have most disliked at Fresno State. He seemed very unorganized during this COVID-19 pandemic. Did not offer any support to his students. His prerecorded lectures were overwhelming as he would make multiple long videos to get across one topic. Did not enjoy class at all!
His lectures were pre-recorded, but I didnt mind; they were still informative and he uses his real life experience as a therapist. Grade in class revolves around quiz grades, but he basically gives you the answers to them if you pay attention to lectures & he gives us a study guide. Assignments are just a few vignettes aside from the quizzes.
Listen Listen this class should not have been this difficult - Not very encouraging -Too much info on study guides that don't show up on tests. - Doesn't communicate well -Gives little time to do quizzes - 3 page case studies only worth 5 points - No time to study for quizzes - Super dismissive of our problems - Goes back on his word
Even though it was online, I really enjoyed this class. Provides study guide two weeks before the quiz. I appreciated that the Professor had a virtual office hour each day and was accessible and supportive. Would definitely recommend.
Most frustrating professor. Super dismissive of students' concerns. He made the taking of the quizzes ridiculous complicated, 25 questions around 16 minutes to take it, lockdown with camera, can't skip questions and go back. Lots of writing. Puts stuff on study guide and when you ask about it says "Just skip that" Ignores emails and messages.
One paper, some essays, 8 quizzes. Professor is a therapist and is pretty knowledgeable. Pre recorded lectures. Funny. Willing to help. Very understanding during Covid
Lectures were pre-recorded and available to watch anytime. They only graded assignments for this class was an essay, 8 quizzes, and vignettes. The textbook is interesting and helps understand all the material covered in the semester. Professor is firm with grading scale, overall a solid professor.
Honestly, his lectures are not good, very broad. All he talks about is money. He does therapy on the side and talks about how money is his own motive. Does not answer emails.
Interesting class. Good lectures. Instructor was available during his office hour. Look forward to more classes with this Professor.
Felt like there wasn't support for us during COVID. Gave me and others 5 minutes during office hours and COMPLETELY ignored one other peer. Didn't respond to emails--not accessible. Dismissed concerns we voiced to him about the course and quiz structures (repeated/incomplete questions, etc.). Material isn't hard, but I taught myself everything.
I generally do not like online classes but I found this class incredibly interesting. Quizzes were challenging. Good lecturer. Very supportive instructor who wants you to succeed. Solid.
You definitely have to watch the lecture videos and read the book bc the homework and quizzes are based on both. Find the book online FREE! Total of 10 reflection papers (2pg each). 8 quizzes all on lockdown browser w/ video monitor. One 5-6 page article summary paper. One assignment for extra credit. He's a cool Professor! I sure studied alot!
Professor Stratford is amazing! Lectures are interesting and makes them easy to understand. Taking notes is super important, his tests are based on lectures and reading. You HAVE to read the book. 20 question quizzes about every 2 weeks and about 6 vignettes (mini papers) 3.5-5 pages. Psych 66 was easier but both are very interesting. Great prof!
There is a lot of writing in this class and your grade is based mostly on your quizzes. He does provide a study guide but it was very broad. You gotta know the material well in order to pass the quizzes. We had writing assignments almost every week which was difficult because we would have a quiz the next day.
Professor Stratford was a good professor. Many papers to write but they are doable. About 3-4 pages each. It was an educational course. Make sure to check the due dates because he changes them.
Stratford's structure compared to other prof's during this time was less than stellar. Lectures posted sporadically in an unorganized 'Files' tab. 8 reflection questions that have to be 2 pages where the prompt is just an objective from the textbook. Easy grader, put in minimal effort and got full credit. Provides study guides but just read book.
Awesome class! I really looked forward to the lectures. 6 short papers. Take lecture notes and read the text and you will do well on the exams.
Professor Stratford is great! He's one of those teachers that actually teach you things! I understand the material and i'm actually learning new things. You NEED to read the book in order to pass those proctored quizzes. I was only watching his lectures and they only got me so far. Vignette's are interesting, I enjoyed doing them (3-5 pages)
I would avoid this Professor if possible. He has a humorous personality but lacks with his teaching skills. He lectured for one class day and it wasnt enough. He never uploaded lecture vids even though he said he would. Felt like I was teaching myself. We were only graded on 4 tests & 6 vignettes(essays) so it made it harder to bring our grade up.
This is the first psychology class where I have witnessed so many students struggle to pass. This professor did not provide the students with enough preparation prior to each assignment or exam. He doesn't provide enough opportunities to improve your grade. Each exam and assignment has a big impact on your overall grade.
Awesome Professor. Has a great understanding of the material. Attend class lecture , watch the asynchronous lectures and you will do well. Very kind and empathic.
Hes very unorganized but his course was very interesting. There is 3 exams, and 1 final. He provides study guides with terms. His exams are mainly scenarios and some relate to the textbook. Try to study and do good because the only things being graded are 4 exams, 5 reflections, and 1 paper. He only provided 5pts ec. Online & in person. I got a B.
This professor is nice and all but his exams do not follow the study guide he gives us. He gives us what I call 'diagnosis papers' worth 10 points, exams are 40 questions and 1 extra credit assignment. I strongly recommend going to the lectures as much as you can, you need to read the textbook in order to get through the exams and take great notes.
RUN!!!!! DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR! save your time and money and go with someone else. study guide he provides does nothing. everyone struggled with passing the class.
Professor Stratford is amazing! Lectures are interesting and he makes the material easy to understand. Taking lecture notes is super important. You have to attend the lectures to do well on the exams. 6 mini papers and four multiple choice exams. Great Prof!
Don't take him if you are willing to fail! There's barely any work that needs to be done so he grades heavily on the exams which will hurt your grade badly! Study guides are provided but they are useless... 20% of the study guide is probably on the test? Talks a lot about personal experiences which throws everybody off. Extra credit is not given.
This Professor is a pretty good professor. Give an average amount of work & detailed lectures are compares them to patients he has had in the past. The only thing is that when he gives you a study guide all it is are terms to study & you need to asses a patient as if they had the diagnosis. Also has about 7 vignettes & few other assignments.
