Really nice guy, and he's a real cultural anthropologist, so he can give his own fieldwork as examples on every subject. Tests are based mostly on lecture and readings, and if you study that you're good to go. A couple of papers that I found fun to write.
This is the most interactive classroom setting I've come across in the social sciences, and Kent does an excellent job of blending his personal experiences with the course material. His goal is student success, and he will make some accommodations to benefit individuals. Very interesting lectures and fair tests. Definitely take him!
Not a bad teacher, just not the right teacher for me. There are 2 credit/no credit 1 page papers you have to write. And 2 longer essays.Other than reading, there is no homework. Test are somewhat easy. But make sure you study everything. Be prepared to take 2-3 of notes every class
This class is not hard nor easy, You just have to really pay attention and you MOST DEF. gotta read the book otherwise u get a big fat F... so to succeed you just gotta Take notes, Read the whole book, pay attention in class, and thats pretty much it. He is really nice :)
pretty cool teacher. You just really need to pay attention and attend. You also need to take good notes... i mean GOOD notes. But over all really awesome class and a one of the better teachers at the JC
Mr. W is a great teacher. Crystal clear powerpoints. If u take good notes, and just study the notes, you dont need a book. I didnt buy any of the 3 books he said to, and passed with an A. He is really nice and will help when needed. I dnt recomend missing classes unless u can copy the powerpoints u missed. NO HOMEWORK... 3 or so papers. easy A
I think he is an excellent teacher. Worked in the field and has great stories about his experiences. Very passionate about anthropology. Haven't needed text book much, but do need other books for tests. 2 easy credit/non-credit reading responses, 1 museum report, and 1 paper. Tests are easy. Just take notes. I would definitely take him again.
Kent is an awesome professor. His lectures are really interesting and the books are pretty cool too. He always responds to emails and is easy to talk to. If you just attend class and read, you're good.
Mr. Wisniewski is a wonderful combination of kwirky and astute. Overall, he is an incredibly intelligent man that is much more suited for a serious, 4-year university environment. I felt that his teaching lacked "baby-ing" and demanded comprehension out of his students. You must earn your A.
Excellent professor - plan on signing up for all his class offerings.
I thought I would hate Anthro, but he's such a great teacher that now it's my favorite class. I'm actually considering pursuing anthropology because of how great he makes this class. He has great stories, clear lectures, and makes it entertaining. He's understanding and easy to approach, and genuinely cares about the class and his students.
I love Dr. Wisniewski!!! He is very friendly/approachable/easy-going, has great stories from his own experience working with different cultures, and the class is very straightforward. He doesn't mind putting the lecture on hold for the sake of a great class discussion. OVERALL FANTASTIC TEACHER. Can't wait to take more of his classes!
Wisniewski is one dang cool cat! He is very down to earth, and gives reasonable tests. He is always available to help you - be it for a project in a different class or assistance in deciding your major. I'd love to take cultural anthro from him, which was his primary schooling. Getting an A wasn't too difficult, but I've definitely learned a lot.
Amazing! Professor Wisniewski will help you learn a lot about relevant world issues in a short amount of time. He's a great professor, an interesting person, and a nice human being. I highly recommend taking any of his classes!
Amazing teacher! Interesting lectures, clear notes. You are well prepared for tests if you pay attention and study a little. Two essays are the only homework; not hard, but interesting! Easy to get an A because he teaches so well and it's so interesting. You learn a lot with no busy work. Kent is very kind and helpful, too! TAKE HIM!!!
Kent is an amazing teacher, lots of fun and easy to get along with. Take a class with him, his globalization class is really fun and kicked back with open lectures and lots of class participation.
This is the best antro teacher at the jc. Test are esay if you pay attention and take notes durning class. if you copy his powerpoints and study the terms you will have an A. he is also very nice and has you watch very cool videos!!
Globalization=easiest class I took at JC.Kent is nicest and most fun teacher I met at JC, will stop and chat for days if he sees you walking around campus. skim readings if you want, you will learn a ton regardless. Made me consider changing my major, tho it was the only anthro class i took. Well chosen, informative academic readings, but not req'd
Coming into this class i thought i was going to hate it. But Kent made this class so interesting. A lot of note taking so attending class is important. his study guide questions are all from his notes. Easy to study off of. his office hrs very helpful. nice man.
Kent is such an awesome teacher! Very humorous and relaxed in the classroom. I wasn't a science fan coming into the class and he made it interesting enough to where I got a great grade in the class. Textbook is easy to read and homework isn't difficult at all! I definitely reccommend taking him!
Great teacher. INTERSTING. He's nice laid back &witty but above all hes very clear in his lectures &expectations. Most material on the indigenous of Brazil. The end of the class is learning from his case study. I didn't know what globalization was before this class &didnt know if i was prepared, but his great teaching style enabled me to get an A.
Not a huge fan of globalization but I love this teacher. He's so nice and helpful, and will always find time to talk to you if you need. 2 exams, which are really easy if you just read. Workload is not heavy at all, and you learn a lot of stuff. I'm definitely taking him again for Anthro 2.
I loved Professor Wisniewski! He made the lectures very clear and undestandable and really wanted you to succeed. Very knowledgable about his field and the tests and papers weren't too hard, as long as you spent a fair amount of time studying and doing your research! 3 tests including the final, 3 map quizzes, and 2 research papers.
I was dreading this class because I am horrible at any sort of science, but I ended up really enjoying it. Not to say this class isn't hard, the tests require a good deal of studying, however the 3 map quizzes and 2 essays are pretty easy and there are many options for extra credit.
His lectures are really packed full of information, and if you take good notes then you don't need to spend a lot of time studying the textbook. (although it never hurts) He also only requires one paper. So as long as you show up to class and do a little bit of studying, an A should be no problem
Knows a lot about the discipline. Great guy to just talk to even. Tests are very difficult, so study thoroughly! Lessons packed with info. Only teaches by powerpoint lecture.
Textbooks are not required. You can get by without them. If you do decide to buy, just buy the two texts about cultural groups. Exams are almost entirely off of lectures. At most a question or two from the texts. Exams are easy if you put an hour or two of studying.
Has a PhD, but absolutely zero ego! Extremely helpful and nice man. As long as you take notes in class you really only must read The Gebusi and The Spirit Catches You and You Fall Down along with studying said notes to pass the tests. The class thrives on discussion.
I had no idea what globalization was prior to this class and I have come out loving it! Kent is such an amazing teacher and has so many awesome stories to tell! He is so nice, understanding and laid back! Reading and taking notes is required but as long as you do both you'll get an easy A! I 100% recommend him!
amazing teacher, made the class very interesting/welcoming. His fieldwork was in the amazon which he incorporates a lot but in a good way. Accepts late work if needed and the exams are straight from the notes and two novels you read which are both great. Didnt use anthro text at all since it was all in his lecture. Take it even if not required
I don't like science but I thoroughly enjoyed this class. Everyday I learned something fascinating! Really intelligent, humble teacher. All the exams are exactly what he lectures on so you don't need the txtbk. I highly recommend this class!
This class was one of the most dull classes I took at the JC. It was easy but the professor cared more about his own travels than what the actual class was about. I didn't understand the material or where we were ever at in the book because he was so unclear. Until I took his class I had a 4.0 GPA. I was so disappointed.
Dr. Wisniewski is a really pleasant teacher. The material is interesting and the work load wasn't too hard. You do need to study for tests. I really enjoyed having him as my teacher.
Kent was an energetic, and happy professor. He lights up when talking about his experiences, and has a true passion for anthropology. Basically no hwk but the two books to read and write papers on. I didn't even read The Spirit Caches You and You Fall Down, but read book summaries and got an A+ on my paper. Do not buy the text book, just listen.
Kent is so nice! He is super energetic and an interesting lecturer! He has all sorts of personal experience to add reference to the points he teaches. His tests are easy if you use the study guide, same with the map quizzes. Make sure you show up to class! Everything you need is in the lecture, so you NEED those lecture notes for tests!Recommended!
Kent is the man. He is so kind, caring, and informative. He clearly shows what culture is about and unbiasedly explains different cultures. This class is important if your parents aren't Americans (natives). Easy Class, got A, just go to class, and take notes
I don't think we ever got through more than 3 slides in one class. Nothing got done because students would drone on about unrelated matters. He really needs to learn how to conduct a classroom setting. Great guy, bad teacher.
Genuinely one of the nicest people I have ever met. Super passionate about his topic and completely humble. Has a zest for life and loves to share it with people.
I DREADED taking this class (art student). But Kent is outstanding. It is a lecture so we take notes the entire time. But he does such a good job at making sure we write everything down, elaborates, double checks that everyone's questions are answered and really emphasizes what we need to know for the test. 4 multiple choice exams, study your notes
KW is an extremely genuinely nice person. Make sure to attend class and take notes. The only reading necessary was for the papers, which are 1500 words each and two smaller essays. If I wasn't transferring after this semester I would take his globalization class.
he's the nicest teacher you'll ever have in college. Tells cool and funny stories about his time in the amazon lol. I loved his class so much i'm going to take anthro2 with him. His midterm was super easy and has 2 short answer assignments with a topic report essay of your choosing. if you like learning about the world just take it, it's cool.
I am a child development major and I am not super interested in anthropology, so this class was a little boring for me. He is a very nice person and his lectures are interesting, but I was not excited to be in this class. I think that if you have an interest in anthropology this class is for you. He is a good teacher and has a clear grading rubric.
He's a great teacher and very knowledgeable. I had a 9:00 class and he was fine with people showing up late. Barely any Homework submissions. Tests are relatively easy - gives study guide. I barely studied and still got an A on the tests. Take notes in class. - Power points are used during lecture. Very nice guy, pretty easy going.
There is no homework. Four tests, a 3 page paper and two quizzes. If you don't do well on tests do not take this class. His lectures are ok but there is a ton of new vocabulary which makes it really hard to study. He does give out a study guide which is really helpful.
So Kent was a great teacher. He has traveled the world and really cares about what he teaches. Tests are easy if you take good notes. One paper that I got a 200/200 on, super easy. If you skip class, you don't get marked down, but you won't have the notes. Overall, great class!
Awesome class! Prof. Wisniewski creates clear, interesting lectures with powerpoints that are easy to take notes from. He is approachable and passionate about his subject, and eager to help students. Tests are easy to pass if you study, and he makes sure all content on them is covered in class. Great guy, can't wait to take him again
This class is terrible. The assignments are unclear, lectures are very dull and the slides shown don't pertain to the exams he gives you.
Only 2 homework assignments along with reading 2 books. Long lectures, teaches to the test, so if you study your notes tests will be easy. Would recommend to take notes on the descriptions he gives on the people in his lectures (they are often on the test but no notes on the powepoints).
Do the readings, engage in class, keep good notes, study hard for tests, and hand in papers on time and you are set for an A. There are minimal/no opprotunitites for extra credit so work hard for the 3-5 graded assignments. He is a super nice guy and really open to conversation outside of class.
Dr. Wisniewski is a great professor! You may not need the textbook but the other books he requires are a must. TAKE HIS CLASS, what he puts on his slides that's what will be on the test so make sure to take notes. Easy A if you do all the work. He helps students out too. Great teacher overall I would take another class with him if I needed to.
He is a very gracious professor, and a real anthropologist! He is doing his best to maximize his students' grades. Read the books assigned to you and take good notes you'll pass. He gives study guide before exams. The only problem about the class is, he taks fast, so you may miss some discussion when you take notes.
Kent is a very sweet person in general. He really cares about his students and cares a lot about what he is teaching. Only has three tests and then also the final along with one paper and a quiz or two. Overall, a very easy class. Textbook is not needed, his lectures cover nearly everything on the test. I'm retaking him now for Anthro 2!
This class was very engaging and Dr. Wisniewski is very well educated in Anthropology and has even done field work in other countries. The lectures are never boring and he has personal experiences to share to go along with the slides that are shown during class. General ed or major requirement-this class is a must because of how well it's taught.
He is a great professor! Do the readings, work hard, and study for tests. He is great about meeting up with you during office hours if something in the material is unclear.
Excellent teacher, very organized. Very clear on assignments, repeats what is required and is coming up. Always willing to answer questions or clarify assignments. PowerPoints are not given so must take notes. Do the readings.
Kent is a great professor... one of the best Ive had! His lectures are very detailed and he makes everything clear and understandable. The assignments that are assigned are fairly easy and straightforward. Must attend class to get all of the info, because he does not give out the PowerPoints.
Kent is a really awesome person and that is reflected in his classroom. lecture heavy, bring a laptop if you are a slow writer. accessible outside of class and during class he welcomes questions. class is mostly lecture and tests but he gives you really clear study guides. make quizlets to study for tests and you will do just fine! highly recomm.
Great class!!!! If Anthropology isn't interesting to you the lectures may seem boring but for anthropology students Kent is great teacher. Kent's format is nice, not too many assignments focusing more on discussion
Amazing class and amazing professor. The most informative and inspirational class I've taken at the SRJC. Wish I was here longer so that I could take more of his courses. Highly suggest!
Dr Wis is really really nice. His class is almost exclusively lectures, he gives a few easy tests, his final project is very flexible. I would recommend him, easy A.
Anthro 30: midterm in class w/note card, multiple choice w/essay question part (gives out study guide).Final take home. 1 book the rest of the readings are online. Come to class b/c notes aren't available online. Write 2 papers that are 2 pages each graded on p/np and a 3rd that is around 4 pages on a topic u pick. Very easy and very nice teacher!
Absolutely loved this class. Very lecture heavy, but that worked for me. No homework, only 4 exams and 1 paper. He's very knowledgable and although the lectures can get dry, his passion for anthropology made me more inclined to learn the material. I'm taking anthro2 next semester with him because I loved his class so much!
About 1/2 way into the semester Kent began cancelling class at least once a week. He sent video lectures with the notes, but they were nothing like real class time. He even cancelled the entire week before our final. Ended up with a total 10+ classes canceled. He was a great prof when he actually showed up- fair tests, interesting lectures, no hw.
I loved Kent, he was such nice and intelligent teacher. He did have some medicial issues throughtout the semester, but even the video lectures were interesting. It's a clear A if you show up and take notes.
I took him online. Great professor. Every lecture was interesting.
Kind man great teacher but I personally was bored. LOTS to read but most was interesting. He gives a GREAT study guide for all his quizzes. For the course, he gives two big (but easy) writing assignments and two small ones with super helpful specific prompts so you know exactly what he wants you to write about. Plus EXTRA CREDIT opportunities.
His online class was very boring. I never read the textbook once and we had to do weekly discussion posts, as well as weekly timed quizzes. I wish he gave more time on the quizzes and to make them unlimited on canvas. I hate taking online classes but this one, his videos were very outdated and so were his lectures. I heard in class is much better.
Professor Wisniewski is kind, well-organized great storyteller; his lectures are interesting and easy to follow. I took this during the covid transition and he adapted smoothly to the online form. He's a generous grader and cares deeply about anthropology, and about his students. I learned a lot from his class and appreciated his easy-going style.
Professor Wisniewski is amazing!! He made me fall even more in love with Anthro! His tests are easy and fun. His lectures are very insightful and easy to understand. Discussion posts are always easy and fun to do. The readings are very interesting. If you like Anthro, be prepared to love it after this class. I highly, highly recommend Wisniewski!
Very easy grader and you can learn a lot from Kent. Gives out a lot of extra credit, flexible with some due dates, and no big tests. One downside for me personally was the cost of the required textbooks, especially when one was kinda unnecessary, and that the quizzes were timed.
You would have to actively try to not do well in this class. He is organized, clear and concise. Great teacher.
Wisniewski's class has been informative, interesting, and fun! Everything in the class is easily accessible and easy to learn fromhe makes his online assignments as understandable as possible. An easy and fair grader, there's lots to read but no huge tests so make sure you participate! I'd love to take his class again.
Wisniewski lectures are the most interesting Ive ever seen because he talks about his field work. There wasnt too much homework and he had a variety of different types of assignments which helped with grading. This class confirmed my love for anthropology and exposed me to readings which I researched further after class ended.
I started watching the lectures in the beginning but they were quite boring. I stopped and passed the class with an A because I decided to read the textbook instead.
Awesome class! super knowledgeable as he has experience doing fieldwork as an anthropologist. Really inspiring and interesting lectures. Very clear and organized in what you need to do. Gives lots of extra credit options
One week into his summer online Cultural Anthro class and I switched majors. Each week consisted of 2-3units which broke down to roughly 2, 50min lectures, a chapter reading from each of the 2books assigned, 2discussion posts, and a quiz. I copy and pasted his study guide into a word doc and filled it out while watching the lectures. Great teacher!
Time-consuming in a summer session but not challenging. Prof seems nice from recorded lectures and gives you all the info to do well. Lots of reading that is sometimes dull but manageable. Prof makes lectures interesting and you can make it through 6 weeks and get an A with a little bit of effort and some time.
Took online Anthro2, clear outline of class and fun, engaging lectures, informative quizzes, and overall exciting class. Professor makes it easy to learn anthro. The books that we read were very interesting too.
Mr. Wisniewski is one of the best professor I have had! He is very passionate about what he is teaching and he really cares about his students. I highly recommend taking his classes.
This is the third class I have taken with Professor Wisniewski as he provides the most interesting and worthwhile material in each course he teaches. He cares about what he is teaching and that is conveyed through the detailed lectures and intriguing readings he provides as well as his personal stories of his fieldwork.
Biological Anthropology. Prof. Wisniewski is a delightful instructor with a good sense of humor. Holds office hours & passionate about his subject matter. Lectures are engaging and interesting. Textbook was easy to read + colorful. The online option was helpful with videos and quizzes to study. Exams with mini essays and two papers + map quizzes.
Professor Wisniewski is a wonderful professor. He's clearly passionate about the topic he teaches, and seems like a really cool dude in general as well. He also has several extra credit assignments throughout the semester.
Absolutely love him he is the sweetest! He loves what he teaches and it shows. He offers extra credit and extended deadlines. He uses lots of examples and allows a sheet of printer paper notes for quizes front and back. Do the work. He gives so much oportunity to compleet assignments and takes into account how busy everyone is with other classes.
I've taken Kent's for ANTHRO 2 & 30, really enjoyed his lectures and assigned readings. He assigned reading as well as a few videos to watch and respond to. Better in person if you can get him.
Professor Wisniewski is a super knowledgeable teacher. Although there is a bit of an agenda each week, he gives thoughtful assignments. There is a discussion post and quiz weekly but they are super straightforward if you review the reading and lecture assignments. He is a fair grader who wants his students to succeed.
Dr. Wisniewski is truly an inspiring character. I loved how he presented very real information in a way that kept storytelling in mind. In the terms put forth by Daniel Quinn's 1992 novel "Ishmael," Dr. Wisniewski is truly able to show the "leaver" and "taker" mentalities of the world, and how the lines between them can be blurred. Take his class.
Dr. Wisniewski is truly an amazing professor. If you are interested in anthropology or just need GED credits, I highly recommend him. Very engaged in lectures, using his own experiences to elevate the content presented. There is a lot of reading outside of class, but it is engaging. Exams are easy and you're allowed to bring two sides of notes.
He's okay. I took his online class. Lots of reading. Main issue that he would take forever to grade things and he was hard to reach by email. Weekly quizes and discussion boards. There's about 2 essays. You have to get a few books to read for this class.
I took his online self regulated class. He is very straight forward, his tests and assignments are very straight forward. He makes his expectations clear in the beginning. The assignments are easy, a little time consuming, but it's college, what do you expect. I would totally recommend for those who want an self regulated class.
His expectations are pretty straight forward and the assignments are easy but there is a lot of reading . He has two extra credit essays with each exam and lots of discussion. Pretty easy class in general.
