Zirlott gets how Econ can be hard to understand, and really goes out of his way to help students make up for bad exam scores with a lot of extra credit from homework. Hes a great lecturer because he makes it funny and pretty relatable to everyday things. Tests are multiple choice but can be tough on concepts instead of just definitions.
Econ is generally a pretty hard class, but Kent makes it easier for you. Hes the best professor to have for an econ class, the way the homework is weighted means you can get 50+ extra credit points, which will be crucial towards the end of class. Homework and tests are fairly difficult, but complete all of the homework assignments and youll pass.
TAKE ZIRLOTT! You're graded on 4 tests and homework. Aplia gives you a ton of extra credit, and he gives a lot of hints during the lecture about test questions. If you go to class, reread the notes, and do your Aplia, you should get at least a B+ no matter what. I only needed a 40 on final for an A+. Also, buy his class notes in the store.
Kind of quirky dude, sometimes wastes class time going on about random things only he's interested in, but straightforward in what he expects you to know on tests. The hw is an average of your attempts so it can go south kind of quickly, but he offers lots of extra credit to make up for it:
If you go to class and do your homework youll do perfectly fine. He explains things well and adds other interesting/funny things into his lectures. He hands out a good bit of extra credit if you go to class. 10/10 recommend, hes a quality dude.
This was my first Econ class and Dr. Zirlott made me love my major! His lectures include a lot of real world examples. He gives a lot hints for upcoming tests during his lectures, so go to class! Buy the notes, so you can listen while he is explaining concepts on tables and graphs. You usually have a week or so notice on homework, so do it early!
He has a dry sense of humor, which I loved but I know some may not. Attendance isn't mandatory, but going to class is definitely important to know what's going on. Overall, he was a great teacher and made Econ fun. Definitely recommend! Also ends up being a lot of extra credit as long as you do your homework

Zirlott is the best. He offers very clear explanations of all the topics and offers a bunch of extra credit through homework assignments. There are 4 tests each worth 100 points and homework is worth 100 points as well. All the points that you get over the 100 that are counted for homework is extra credit which allowed me to get an A+ easily.
This class is very hard. I heard he was supposed to be the best Econ 110 prof at Bama. I struggled in this class and I am normally a straight A student. The tests are hard. He dosen't give many opportunities for extra credit as well. He does OK lectures but it feels like he just reads his notes instead of actually explaining things.
This class wasn't the worst I have taken but it definitely could've been better. Info isn't too hard to comprehend but the tests are insanely hard if you aren't a good test taker. Goes off on random tangents a lot. I had Walsh for 110 and enjoyed that class way more. He just reads pp to you even though you can buy his notes. Doable but not worth it
Attendance isnt mandatory, he only gives outlines for the tests. Tests are EXTREMELY hard. You have to really study in order to do well. He barely gives extra credit, he gave 1 opportunity this whole semester. Great guy, good humor but this class is no joke. Take the tests seriously or you wont pass. Hw he takes the average which can mess you up.
Dr. Zirlott was a great Econ professor! There is HW for the class but he sets you up for success. In the MANY homework assignment you have a few that are "bonus." He never really said whether or not they were, but they were definitely pretty easy if you paid attention in lecture! Great man, great professor!!!! Would definitely take him again.
Only showed up to about to 3 lectures the whole semester. As long as you study before the test you should be fine just make sure you understand the topics
This professor is relatively good. He does give extra credit and can be funny sometimes during lectures. I struggled but was able to pass the class. It sounds like the other EC110 professors are harder so I would recommend having this guy.
Zirlott is the BEST to take Econ with at bama. I recommend taking every class he teaches. He tends to go on lots of tangents during lecture but also gets his point across. My test average in this class was probably around 65-70 and I still managed to finish the class with an A due to the hw and extra credit. Definitely buy the optional notes too!
Zirlott is lit! Alot of people are saying he just reads of his power point. Which he does but if you LISTEN, he breaks it down. And another thing, ECON test are made by the department but i feel as if Zirlott does good preparing for it. I mean I failed the same class last semester and passed this time with flying colors. IM ROOTING FOR ZIRLOTT!
SHOW UP TO CLASS; he gives extra credit sometimes. He is hilarious, & makes the content easy to understand. Read the book & do all the homework on time (Really understand it). Go to office hours to understand mistakes on tests. Buy his slide notes, but take your own in class. Study the slides for specifics & your notes for hints he gives. Easy A
Best teacher I a have ever had hands down. If you truly want to understand economics, I would take him. It is not a 'walk in the park' but if the right approach is taken you will enjoy this class.
Dr. Zirlott is an amazing teacher. If you show up to class and actually try you're practicaly guarenteed to get an A. He offers extra credit just for doing your homework. Class is always interesting as he is very funny and likes to keep the class engaged.
I have learned more about Zirlott's interest in roller coasters, dispensaries and hiking than I learned actual Econ. His tests are impossible and extremely difficult. He reads directly off his slideshows and spends half the class time talking to his TA's about random stuff. Do not take him I spent a lot of money on tutors just to get a decent grade
Zirlott is the greatest... I've gotten Bs on all the tests but could have gotten higher if I had studied more than a day ahead, but he gives so much extra credit that I still made an A+ in the class. Take him, he's funny and he really wants to help.
Best econ professor at UA hands down. Go to his lectures and he will explain everything he wants you to know clearly. Before the tests read over the PowerPoints and you will be fine. Would take him again if I could.
I have taken Zirlott for Econ 110 and 113 (Regular Micro and Honors Macro). I made an A+ in 110 and need a 71 on my final to make an A+ for Honors Macro. He is awesome! Attendance is not required, but he is a phenomenal teacher and attending lectures will result in little studying before each test. Pro Tip: Buy his notes from the ferg!
If you are going to take EC110, make sure you take Zirlott. The grading criteria is straight forward and gives you the opportunity for a TON of extra credit (a whole letter.) There are hw assignments, but the hw is very easy, and you can use Orangetheory if you are having trouble with it. It's easy to get an A+ if you go to class and do your hw.
Dr. Zirlott is one of the best professors I've ever had. He manages to make class super interesting and does a really good job of explaining the material in the textbook using real world examples. He also offers lots of extra credit and his tests are pretty straightforward. Highly recommend taking him if you get the chance!
Econ can be difficult but Dr. Zirlott makes it pretty understandable. Generally entertaining in class and will usually let you out early. Do every single homework assignment and try to ace every one. they're pretty easy, help you prep for the test, and amount to so much extra credit. Also show up to class as he sometimes gives out extra credit.
Professor Zirlott is one of the best professors I've had at UA so far. While his class was tough, I learned a lot and he gives many pertinent examples of real life economics. If you show up to class, take good notes, and study VERY thoroughly, you will get a good grade and learn a lot.
Although professor Zirlotts tests were difficult, the extra credit given REALLY boosts your grade at the end. I did not do well on a majority of the tests and still ended with a great grade in the class. I recommend!
While Zirlott does take a lot of unnecessary time to talk about roller coasters, weed, and musicals during lectures, he keeps the class interesting and related to economics. There is homework for each chapter, but it's not hard. He also gives a lot of homework extra credit which helps as his tests aren't the easiest. Overall, he is a great teacher!
Zirlot is considered to be the best econ professor at UA but honestly half of the time he was talking about something that was not necessary and I found his class to be pretty hard for something pretty simple.
Zirlott's extra credit is the BEST. He grades on a point system of 500 w/ 3 exams, 1 final exam, & HW. If you do all the HW you can get up to 40 EC pts & he gave 15 EC pts for being in class on his bday. Lectures are kinda boring/tangents but definitely BUY HIS CLASS NOTES and do the study guides and you're set. Easiest EC110/111 teacher.
You have to go to every lecture to get the notes for class. Homework is worth well over 100 points and everything is out of a total of 500 points (not percentage based) so grades don't hurt you. Optional final. Just make sure to take good notes and study the worksheets and you should do fine.
Zirlott is hilarious. If you have trouble paying attention in class, you wont here. Theres nearly 60 extra credit points in homework. On his point based grading scale that is actually A LOT. You dont need to do amazing on tests to pass or get an A for that matter. He does get off track but its usually funny. 10/10
Great professor, enjoyed every class. He is funny and only lectures about things that are important and relevant to tests. If you listen to what he says and do the homework this class is an easy A.
DO NOT TAKE ANY OTHER TEACHER! Zirlott is loved by everyone and he will be your favorite prof. at the U of A by the end of the semester. His grading system is exactly what you are looking for to boost your GPA and get an easy A. He has a great personality and continues to bless his students day by day. Please do not miss out, he is the best.
Zirlott is very knowledgeable and does an excellent job teaching material. He rambles way too much in class but you need the notes from the lectures to pass tests. Tests are MC and homework is super easy. Plus you can earn like 40+ extra credit points if you do all of the homework and do well. Easy A.
Very laidback and understanding person. Due to covid, he gave us the option to either come to class or watch his lectures which he posted on blackboard. Try to complete assignments early because sometimes it can be a lot of work. He gave us the opportunity to earn extra credit by completing activities that dont count towards your grade in Mindtap.
He's a great dude that has great lectures (they tend to go off track sometimes but it's really funny). His tests are tough but he gives at least 50 extra credit points for doing well on the homework, which you can complete with orange's website. It really helps. Just participate and you'll do fine. He emails back within 24 hours.
A good professor, Econ is just confusing to me as it is. He makes all of his test questions, but the tests are open book/note. The homework can be timely so I recommend starting it before the due date. Not a class to stress over for sure!
His tests are nothing like the homework. He reads from the slides when teaching. I learned nothing and I am struggling with this class and its very frustrating.
Took this class during COVID as a hybrid class. Although attendance wasn't mandatory, you were still allowed to go to class. However, he rarely even talked material and if he did all he did was read right off of slide. He writes all his own tests, so if you are not paying attention, they the tests will make zero sense.
Zirlott is an alright instructor. Micro Econ can get a bit confusing but you have the option to buy his lecture notes. BUY THEM. It will help you out a lot and prevent you from taking so many notes. He gives a lot of extra credit if you complete all the homework. There are 4 exams each 50 questions long and pretty tough.
I really enjoyed this class and Zirlott was a very funny lecturer. He could get off topic, but it generally had something to do with the topic he was teaching. With all the extra credit available it was pretty hard to do poorly. Zirlott always had so much material out to help. I really suggest taking him!!
Prof. Zirlott goes off topic in class a lot and I always feel his lectures could be a lot shorter if he stayed on topic. I had him for two classes though and both were changed due to Covid. This class was a hybrid class and his tests used lockdown browser but without camera and mic and he encouraged usage of notes. This class was pretty easy!
Great professor, but you definitely have to study a lot to understand material well. Do your homework and get good grades on it because you will get extra credit points from doing your homework well.
I took him for Microeconomics 110. I enjoyed his class and received an A. He gives homework that is just time consuming but not hard. Watching his lectures online and then attending the lectures helped me best. He is very easy to talk to and responds fast to emails.
This class was really easy for me. My lowest test grade was a 96 and I got a bunch of extra credit from the homework. The class was out of 500 points and I got well over 500 points. That being said, I had a really good econ background from high school (and I know a lot of people don't). Buy his notes at the supe store (I didn't take my own notes)
A decent teacher. I enjoyed his lectures and it was a decently easy class. His test were only hard because of the wording. But he is very chill and gives a good amount of extra credit. Hard to reach because he has a lot of students, but a very manageable class.

His lectures are either him reading straight off a PowerPoint or showing videos that don't matter and wasting time. Your grade in the class consists of 4 tests only and your homework, which isn't easy. He gives out no extra credit and isn't lenient at all.
This was the first econ class I have ever taken and Zirlott makes it easy to succeed as long as you do your part. He gives a lot of extra credit as long as you complete the homework and you can buy his notes from the supe store which is helpful. I never went to class after the first test and was completely fine. As long as you do the homework and look through the powerpoints yourself, you really don't need to go except maybe the class before tests because he'll sometimes give away some answers. If you do all the HW you'll get a ton of extra credit. Would recommend.
Its an easy A but if I dont have to show up for class, that immediately rules out that the professor is actually good. I showed up to class once and very quickly realized I dont ever have to go.

Loved his class, but never went to his class. He would always get on rants and go off topic. I also figured out that he just reads off a powerpoint that is posted on blackboard, so I just taught myself. The homework was the biggest part that helped me, it was A LOT of homework but it helped. All of his test were open notes too so that helped too.
Goes off on tangents about random things a lot. Pretty much everyone stopped showing up to his class because of it. Class is pretty damn hard too. Homework and Exams both hard. Good luck
Mr. Zirlott was a really good professor. His lectures were helpful and he was always willing to answer questions. He does give a pretty heavy load of homework, but you have a month to do it. He was easily accessible outside of class, and his tests were open note. Just put in some effort and you'll be fine!
Super nice guy and a good professor. Class isn't mandatory and the tests are all online with a lockdown browser but no video. You have months to do the homework and it is easy to earn extra credit in homework. Should be an easy A, but the tests are hard and you have to study.
Zirlott is absolutely amazing. Loved going to his class and he will tell you a lot of hints about what's on the exam. Talks about his dad all the time and shows you random videos but it's just funny. Have about a month to do homework and you have to study for tests even if they're open notes because Econ is hard. Take Dr. Z if you can!!!
Zirlotts class is pretty straightforward. He does a good job providing real-world examples on many of the topics to help better understand the concepts. He can get off on some tangents and just talk about stuff unrelated to the class but he does a good job of reeling himself back in.
While attendance is not mandatory, not going to his lectures will only hurt you. Some of the tests were a tad difficult and I couldn't imagine not going to class. But, if you do well on the homework, he ends up giving you so much extra credit that it bumped my grade up 5 points. I would take him again as he really cares about his students!
This class isn't that hard if you keep up with the homework, take notes, and use the study guides to prepare for the exams. Zirlott can go off on tangents in class, so you don't always need to attend. Be sure to do all the homework since that's how you can get the extra credit.

If you do not have an economics background, Zirlott probably is not the best professor for you. He is a very funny professor; however, he explains things in the bare minimum way. Definitely read the textbook and do your homework PRIOR to the exams. Zirlott does offer a TON of extra credit, which is nice, since your grade is 4 exams and homework.
Easy A for EC110 and genuinely one of the nicest people on campus. Grades are 4 tests and online homework, but you have tons of time for homework and tests are open note! Take him if you can!!!
Exams are difficult, but there's SO MUCH EXTRA CREDIT. He is one of the most intelligent people I have ever come across, he knows everything about everything which is why I found his lectures so entertaining. 10/10 recommend his class

I took EC111 online with Zirlott. I always read the textbook, watched the lectures, took notes, did the homework, and scored pretty high on the tests. His video lectures were very helpful. He offers bonus points on the homework portion and his grading criteria was straight to the point. I really liked the class and the prof!
Such an amazing teacher. He did a great job explaining our grading policy. such an easy class to take as in incoming freshman. As long as you do a lot of the extra credit assignments in MindTap and make decent grades on his tests you will pass with a high A!

Super easy class. Complete all the homework well and you should get enough extra credit to bump your grade by almost a full letter grade. 10/10 would recommend buying his notes from the Supe Store for tests and then watching his course videos with them out, and then use the notes for tests. If you do all that, this class is easily an A to A+ class.

Attendance to his class is not necessary if you do all the extra credit and homework assignments in the textbook as they'll teach you anything you need to know. Super easy class.
Zirlott is a fun professor and he is very accessible. Sometimes class drags on a little bit because he adds a lot of extra content in order to make class more interesting, which is nice but sometimes it feels a little unnecessary. Overall, I liked Zirlott and class was very manageable.
I think I'm going to fail this class actually. His tests were open notes but almost impossible, especially bc they were 50 questions including math in an hour 15 mins. No quizzes, only tests, and a few homework assignments. If you are not a good test taker DO NOT take this class. I have a 3.8 GPA and will fail this class.
I hate this little man. He is filled with contempt and spite in ways that words can not even begin to address. If I was a wizard I would turn him into a toad. If I traveled a thousand days and a thousand nights I don't think I could find someone as irritating as him. If I was a poet I would write a hundred sonnets about my hatred for him.
I would definitely recommend him for EC 110. He gives you a month to do homework and there is so much extra credit. I made in the 80 range on all the tests, even the final, and still ended up with an A+ bc of extra credit. You don't need to go to class but sometimes he gives extra credit just for going. All tests open notes btw. Nice guy.
Professor Zirlott is a great guy. I took EC111 online over the summer and it was a breeze. Just write notes from the powerpoints and do the practice worksheets. About half the exam questions are just practice problems reworded or with different numbers. Open book/note exams. Do your homework so you get a massive grade boost (had a 104 pre-final).
He is the BEST there is for ECON. You do have to study but test are open note which help some. Tests started as online and not proctored then the University gave the all clear and we had to go back to testing in person. Not my favorite subject but he is who you need to take!
I thought that this class was going to be a breeze but it wasn't. I have tried talking to Zirlott and he is not a very nice person if you ask him any question at al he will tell you to look at the syllabus even whenever you are trying to clarify something. Other than that he is a good teacher with alot of knowledge and tests are open note.
Dr. Zirlott is awesome! I really loved his class- sometimes he would get off topic (a LOT) but it was always interesting and funny. He gives good extra credit opportunities and was super fun to be around in class but also in office hours. He tells you exactly what you need to do if you're struggling or anything like that! Take him!
Would recommend. Open note tests and attendance not required. Pay attention to in class examples because those will be on the tests in addition to the PowerPoints. Odd guy but pretty good teacher, he gives extra credit for homework at the end of the semester.
Professor Zirlott is great and gives so many examples during his lectures. He is very knowledgeable of the course material and very fair and helpful. Attendance is not mandatory but I would recommend not taking advantage of that since his lectures and the notes you can take are the only things you can refer to for exams.
THE BEST PROFESSOR FOR ECON. The first test i got a 52%; Dr. Zirlott guided me to use his quizlets, powerpoints, and study guides. After that i got a 96% and 92%. He gave SO much bonus. All test are open note. Overall, the class is so manageable and rewarding.
I enjoyed attending the lectures of Dr. Zirlott because of his sense of humor. The fairly difficult homework and tests will force you to learn all of the material and remember it until the cumulative final. This class is not designed to be difficult to pass but instead to prepare you for macroeconomics.
A very good teacher who understands the concepts he teaches very well, has open notes tests (at least for my class, don't rely on it), although there is a risk he will go on a tangent on an example he brings up to help explain a concept in a relatable/understandable way
His lectures were engaging and funny. Although participation is not mandory, it's HIGHLY recommended since he gives so many good examples. Not to mention, there is so much extra credit. If you have the chance, take him.

Great guy, understands there are people with multiple majors taking the course. Lectures attendance is not required but he is a very funny and down to earth guy. Offers open note tests and gives you a month to do your homework. He is very strict regarding phones in lectures tho so watch that.

I didn't enjoy EC110, I found the lectures to be boring and hard to listen to. He expects you to know what he is talking about and from someone who has never taken a econ class this was really annoying. He has very strong opinions and talks to the class like were dumb. Your grades came from his 4 test which were hard. He does give extra credit.
Profesor Zirlott has one of the easiest classes to take known to man in either micro or macroeconomics, but he is so painful to listen to. Going to just one of his lectures is pure torture. The class is so easy but it is not worth coming to class!

Lots of homework but you know about it months in advance so you have a lot of time to do it as long as you dont put it off. Attendance wasn't mandatory but recommended because the material is hard.
Zirlott gives loads of extra credit and the homework deadlines are pretty spaced out so u have ample amount of time to do it
While I think he's a good teacher, Dr. Zirlott's lectures got off-topic pretty often and lectures felt slow-paced, like I'd rather read the slides at home. The grading criteria are very clear, and he provides lots of additional resources to help with tests. So much extra credit from homework, which helped my average so much.
Dr. Zirlott was a pretty average professor, however probably the best option for EC 110. There is a lot of homework but you have over a month to complete it for each module. He offered so much extra credit and sometimes bonus for attendance. Tests were open note, but you still need to study for them because they are not exactly easy.
This class was extremely difficult and Dr. Zirlott was not at all helpful or accommodating. We did have over a month to complete homework, but the homework is very hard to understand. He would often make fun of students who did not do well and lecture us on why we should do better. His lectures were not engaging at all and he moved really fast.
I liked taking William Walsh better (I took him for 110). I just don't feel like Zirlott actually teaches like a good teacher should. He is also going back to no open note tests next semester (he told us). I wouldn't have made a good grade if it wasn't open note tests.
Quite literally far easier than all of my high school AP classes. There was so much extra credit that was really easy to get, the tests were very easy and open note. His lectures were sometimes a little boring, but he provided many very interesting real-life examples and is an interesting dude all around. Easy A for sure.
Biggest liberal on campus. He'll get his political views across to the class before he begins teaching anything. Very hard to not develop a migraine in his lectures when he's actually there, most of the time you'll just get a TA to read off the slides for you. The only introductory economics teacher on campus and one of the worst I've ever had.
One of the worst professors I have ever had a class with on this campus. Will state his own personal political opinions about economics and literally prove them wrong as class goes on. Kent was never present to give lectures, that was his TA's job, and he was only present for tests. Mr. Zirlott would rather state political opinions than teach econ.
Kent Zirlott is without a doubt one the most Zesty people I have ever met. His class is lecture heavy, and you don't need to attend class, but it is worth it because he gives hints for the tests. Econ is a somewhat difficult class in general,so his class is by no means easy,but if you do the work it is reasonable. He is most definitely always high.
He seems to really like spending most of the lectures talking about random nonsense and speeds through the material you actually need to know for the test. If you haven't ever taken an econ class you will struggle. Your grade depends on the exams (which are not open note anymore) and there is extra credit, but it won't save you if you fail the test

EC 110 is a difficult course. There are only 3 tests the entire semester and they are no longer open note. Although the homework is helpful, it takes so long. I studied for a week plus prior to the exams and still never scored above an 80. Zirlott reads right off the powerpoint.

Disregard all the past good reviews. I went to class everyday, took detailed notes, did all of the homework and studied for hours on end (including tutoring) just to fail 2/3 tests I took. Practically impossible to pass this class.
I have always been an A+ student, but had to drop the class due to almost failing. There is no longer open note tests. I am honestly surprised anyone passed this class. The homework is hard and tests are nearly impossible. If you want to pass this class, take literally anyone else.

It's a content-heavy but manageable class --- homework is a bit tedious but you have a month to complete each module and it helps with the tests so much. There's a ton of extra credit too. Tests can be a bit tough but do all the homework (before the test) and go to every class you can and you'll end with a perfectly satisfactory grade.
Professor Zirlott Made the class fun, even though microeconomics is boring to me. However, in class, usually when students asked questions about the "why" of a topic, he would something along the Lines of "because I said so." Make sure you go to class at least most of the time, Watch videos, do practice sheets, do your homework, and study.
There is literally no reason to go to this class. He reads the slides word for word and refuses to answer questions beyond "Because I said so". However, the content is extremely easy, you never have to go, and he literally gives you 60 points of extra credit. He is not a good professor by any means, but the class is very managable.
Class is pretty easy as long as you put in some effort. Tests can be challenging but he gives out a lot of extra credit -- just doing all the homework past a certain point gives you extra points. One day he gave extra credit just for showing up to class. Idk what's gonna happen in the future but our final was cumulative but also open note.
Ok, Zirlott teaches nothing in this class. His lectures are garbage. Don't take this class if you care about Econ. Be prepared to have your whole grade rely be tests. Mr Zirlott bases his class out of points and 80% of your grade is from tests. He also does not teach Econ but reads a PowerPoint instead which isn't teaching so if you want to really learn Econ take someone else. The people who are saying bad things about Zirlott must have either 1. not applied themselves or 2. did not pay attention in class. He gives plenty of extra credit, genuinely cares about students, and gives many examples. Econ is boring and he makes it fun. He does go on rants, but unless you are sensitive and chronically online that won't matter!
Dr. Zirlott is an overall fun professor. However, his Econ 110 class is difficult. At the end of the semester, however, he did tell us that there were 70 bonus points in the class. The grading system is strange. Make sure you attend lectures, or you won't pass the class. His class is very difficult.
Mr. Zirlott is an amazing lecturer who absolutely knows what he's talking about. Go to class, take extensive notes, and pay attention to the homework because you can get extra credit points. Dr. Zirlott's lectures and worksheets have everything you need to do well on the exams, just take good notes. Much of the exams are application questions. Homework is worth a good amount of your grade, make sure to do it. The only cumulative exam was the final, which was open-note.
Wastes a lot of class time. Not my kind of personality. Really didn't enjoy class. That said, always got out early, clear grading policy, good sample tests, and TONS of extra credit. I got a 110% without much effort. Extra credit comes from HW, so DO IT (it's easy). Hindsight, could've been worse. Teacher meh, class is ok (easy at least).
Dr. Zirlott is one of the easiest professors I have ever taken. If you give minimal effort and have half a brain cell, this class should not be difficult. He gives detailed study guides that prepare you well for what's on the exams and gives test hint in class. Going to class isn't required, but he gives a lot of homework help after lectures.

Professor Zirlott was an amazing professor considering econ is one of the harder classes. This class honestly is not difficult if you attend the lectures and do the homework. He has very clear grading policies and the homework is only beneficial. I averaged C's on the tests but the homework carried my grade and I ended with an A+ overall.
He is just plain terrible. Zirlott goes off on tangents and talks a lot about random things like roller coasters... His exams are extremely difficult and very extensive. His exams vary in difficulty from challenging to just awful. Many people by November drop out and I would recommend doing so to save yourself the trouble unlike I did for myself.
Attendance isn't mandatory but he only uses like 30-40 mins of class so just go. Do all the homeworks, it will bring your grade up a whole letter grade at the end of the semester. Tests aren't super easy but if you do the homework you will get a good grade. Also the final is open notes.
Professor Zirlott is very knowledgeable about economics. His lectures are easy to follow, and he is very entertaining. Homework grades boost your average a lot. Zirlott makes a rather difficult subject easy to understand. 10/10 take him if you can.

i loved him and was def my favorite prof during my first semester at ua. he teaches you basic material and I would use the book to fill in the rest of the gaps. a lot of my friends struggled tho. tests and exams are easy. final was open note and so easy. so much extra credit i ended with a over a 100%. taking him again for macro
He is good at keeping the lectures interesting and the workload is minimal to ensure he gets his point across. I had a huge screw up once and he heard me out and immediately started problem solving with me. Eventually, we came to an agreement that essentially saved my GPA. I cannot express my gratitude towards this man enough.
I would not take him again - he will spend an entire hour and 15 minute class rambling about nothing involving Econ. He NEVER stays on topic so going to class feels pointless because you learn nothing. And then tests are really hard.
Professor Zirlott couldn't be more recommended. Pay attention during lectures, and complete homework a B in the class is achievable w/o trouble. Studying is sometimes necessary, but tests are fair, and he provides good study resources. 4 exams (400pts) and HW (100pts), but the HW spills over as extra credit (Up to 45pts if 100 on all assignments)
Kent is the bane of my existence. From a student with a good understanding of macro this class was awful. He yaps the entire class about things entirely irrelevant to the lectures. I did not leave class a single time where I felt I had learned something. He skims through powerpoints & talks about roller coasters. Tests are very hard!! DO NOT TAKE!!
I honestly loved taking this course. Yes, the mindtap homework can be difficult but Zirlott made class managable while also being a great teacher. Before I took his class everyone gave him a bad rating which had me nervous but I'm glad to see he has the rating he deserves

I recommend taking a different professor for economics. His lectures aren't cohesive. He rambles on about the most random topics that don't always relate to the unit and just take up class time. As someone that went to nearly every class, this is the toughest class I have taken especially if you aren't the best at grasping econ topics.

Zirlott goes on tangents about stuff which makes lectures unbearable. decent amount of extra credit on homeworks but i studied for hours and was unable to make above a B on a test. I think its 50/50 but I would recommend taking Hasan over Zirlott. Lectures are bad, but attendance isnt mandatory and he posts lecture videos which are more concise

The GOAT of economics. Homework is really hard but you can get ungodly amounts of extra credit from it. Go to lectures, study, do practice worksheets and you'll do fine. Zirlott takes the full class time just to go on about topics that do not even relate to the course. His tests are very hard and the homeworks take forever to do. The homework does end up pulling your final grade up A LOT but the tests pull it down.

Zirlott def get's a bad rap when it comes to Econ 110 but honestly it's mostly the material that makes this class hard. Lectures aren't mandatory but just go.100% do the homework it will save you. I had a 57% in the class and the homework brought me up to a 78%. I ended with a 75% in the class after the final exam which is open note.
The bad rates are from people who put no effort in. Kent has interesting lectures that always end early, good TA's, and is a good guy. He does not lie when he says he will remember your face when he grades. It is not an easy class in nature, so when I almost ended with a B, he asked for my last name after the final and pulled me up to an A.
I did NOT do well on the tests. I think it was C, then D, then F, then C final. Before the main big homework grade went in at the end of the semester before the final I had a D and then after I had a B. Lectures are ok, tests are not easy, and the homework takes a while and is not easy either, but the homework helps your grade so much.
Zirlott is definitely a yapper, but his class has so much extra credit that a bad test score isn't the end of the world. Even though he can go off topic, lectures are incredibly helpful and I appreciated the breaks between trying to write everything.
I overall liked Zirlott as a professor. The class was hard for me, but I spent 2 days a week with the TA and went to tutoring at the capstone center once a week and pulled through with a B. The Homework is a big deal so try your best and do it all, anything over a certain amount of points is Bonus straight to your grade.

Zirlott's EC110 class is challenging, but the homework and resources like unstuckstudy ai can really boost your grade. Attend lectures, utilize the TA, and stay on top of the assignments - it's worth the effort.

Can be a nice person, but a HORRIBLE professor. Tests are extremely difficult and will bring your grade far down no matter how much you study (He even said on syllabus week that having a C+ in the class is "very good"). There are no in class review days. He goes off topic very often. Homework is very time consuming and is graded somewhat harsh.
Zirlott doesn't actually teach at all. The only way I am doing as well as I am is because I've taught the whole course to myself. His lectures are full of random tangents that don't have anything to do with the material. I recommend reading all of the textbook chapters very well and study as much as you can with the powerpoints and homeworks.

The HW is hard but it helpful for the tests and if you do it all, you will get a lot of extra credit. Yikes... The test are VERY difficult. I would study for days and days and get a 70. Class average on a chapter 1 test was 52% and he didn't curve it. Homework is time consuming but counts as extra credit and will boost your grade. The only bad side of this, is that he doesn't put the homework grade in until the last week or so of the semester.

The other rates are right, he does ramble doesn't exactly teach. I would stay up until 4 am to teach myself and would get 74s. There is extra credit on the homework, so I would buy chegg and use that to complete it so you can gain as much ec as possible. He is a nice person and I think he wants his to succeed, but he is not great at teaching.
All this guy talks about is disneyworld and Starbucks. Only explains the definitions of things in class, then on the test he puts a bunch of word problems where you have to read between the lines and use the topic in a way he didn't teach. Every single test has been that way which is why no one does well. He's funny but not a good professor.
The tests can kill your grade. The guy will ramble for 20 minutes about national parks and his hometown on google maps and plays random youtube videos. Just use the study guides and handouts on blackboard and study at home you will be better off. Extra credit is also built into the homework which helps.

Zirlotts class really was not bad, if you GO TO CLASS AND STUDY WELL you will do more than fine in his class. Although it is a test heavy course, he offers SO MUCH extra credit through the homework assignments. His lecures can be a bit drawn out and can go super off topic but if you can get through it he is actually a good teacher.
Professor Zirlott was not a bad professor. Microeconomics is a hard class, and he found ways to make it amusing. He gives you all the tools you need to succeed, so be sure pay attention in lecture and study with the videos and study guides on Blackboard. You get extra credit for the homework so go to the homework sessions.
I loved Dr. Zirlott. Attendance not mandatory, but you really do have to go to succeed! Homework due at the end of each month, but do it before the test (it helps). 80% of grade is tests and 20% is HW. He grades HW out of 100 but you can get up to 140 points. I ended with 38 bonus points. It's not hard to pass this class if you put in any effort.
Not too much homework, but the test are very hard compared to lectures. I went to office hours for the TA and it helped a lot. I would recommend to start studying 4-5 days before the exam. For me my grades on the exam really just reflected the amount of work I put in. If you put in the effort the concepts should be understandable for everyone.
The people who write bad reviews just don't try or go to class. Dr. Zirlott isn't UA's best professor, but he keeps class engaging. Class usually got out early, and he sometimes did homework help. He gives out a lot of extra credit from homework so definitely do it. Exams aren't easy, but if you use material on Blackboard you'll do fine.

A lot of people really don't like Zirlott but if you're willing to study a little bit and actually do your homework he's not bad at all. Definitely a yapper but I almost never attended class and ended with an A due to some last minute studying and the extra credit offered from completing all the homework.
His EC 110 class isn't too hard as long as you do the MINDTAP assignments and study the PowerPoints he posts on Blackboard for the tests.
Dr. Kent was an okay professor. The exams are multiple-choice, with a study guide for all of them. I would say that it was a very hard class :(( Do the homework, do the study guide, and do the practice assignment he puts on Blackboard, and you will do fine! Extra credit is just the hw-- it is out of 146 pts. The hw pts helped me pass the class!!
He was the worst teacher I have ever experienced. He talked about Disney World and billionaires the entire time. I did not learn anything. he was not helpful whatsoever. He relied on his T.A's the entire time. The extra credit helped but he did not specify what to do to gain this credit. Tests had nothing to do with study guide.

Everything I learned in this class was because I had to teach it to myself through the textbook, which is the only way I was able to JUST barely pass the class. He told us ever since the first day how hard the class was going to be and yet doesn't do all that much to help us out.
Honestly thought I was going to fail the class halfway through the semester. I consistently got high c's on the tests but got an A on the final. The homework was my saving grace, and the answers are online. His lectures were not very helpful, but his blackboard resources were. He's not as bad as everyone makes him seem, but he's not great.
You'll want to drop this class day 1. Don't. Professor Zirlott is the best professor I think you can get for a class as hard as Econ. He relates the concepts to your life. He gives you the tools to succeed. Use them. Go to class, do your homework, focus on UNDERSTANDING the material as opposed to memorization, and watch the lecture videos to study.

Great class! He is very nice and offers a ton of extra credit. I feel like his grading scale is much more forgiving than most. Homework is easy and gives good practice for the tests. Also provides test reviews that are great study tools. Tests are in person with lockdown browser. I loved the class!
Lectures were pointless. He just rambled on about random things the entire time. Tests were nothing like the homework and everyone I know who took the class failed the tests. would not recommend.
His lectures were not very helpful. If you do not go to class, read the textbook. Homework is what saves everyones grade so do your homework.
In my opinion, he was a great teacher, just not the easiest. Zirlott's lectures were usually pretty entertaining and relatable, and he offered a lot of tools to succeed. Attendance is important, though not required. Homework assignments provide built-in extra credit, allowing you to earn a lot of extra points toward your grade. I'd take him again.
Quirky and funny, although he routinely goes off-topic on tangents (I think the class spent more time looking at Google Maps archives as a whole more than the actual lecture slides). The lectures aren't very helpful, but he does offer homework help at the end and goes over what will be on the next exam. 4 MC exams make up 90% of your grade.
He is a solid professor and I would definitely take him again. This class is more on the difficult side but he offered SO MUCH extra credit and the homework counted as a SUBSTANTIAL part of your final grade. He wasn't the best lecturer but again you don't have to do amazing on exams to get a good grade in the class due to how much HW and EC counts.
He has no curve and tests are very hard. Get any other teacher for this class if I were you
Not mandatory, but go to class. He gives you good insight about what is/not important. In lectures, he gives homework help, and tips on test. Has a bad rep, but strictly wants you to learn and understand the material. There is a good amount of homework, but gives you a whole month to do it, and suggests doing it before the test as study material.
Zirlott definitely knows what he's talking about. But at least for me and many others I've spoke to the way he teaches can be hard to understand. He just reads off of powerpoints. Also likes to talk about roller coasters, amusement parks, gatorade vs. powerade, birdhouses, and looking at the old sorority houses on google maps.
It is not an EASY course but he gives homework help in class, tells you if you need to know something for the exam, notes are exactly whats on the slides, and puts so many materials on blackboard for you to study. I have an A right now and you def need to study and go to class but it's not as bad as people make it! I truly don't understand the hate
I would not recommend him at all. His teaching method isn't even teaching he babbles on about anything but economics for the whole class. All he does is read off the PowerPoint slides and act like you should know the information already. His homework is difficult and his tests look nothing like what he is teaching if you want to even call it that.
Very unprofessional guy. Tests are very hard if you are not a fan of Econ. Just avoid him if you can. you have to do well on the tests to pass. he flies through the lectures and gives you a ridiculous amount of math and formals on the tests rather economic concepts and terminology. I would've taken a math class if I wanted to.
Had to drop the class and am usually an A-B student. Took tons of notes and studied but just couldn't pass. Lectures are long and boring and he easily gets off topic. Tests are very hard. Would not recommend and have heard others say the same.

Literally the most miserable class I have ever taken. Micro is NOT a hard class but he makes it impossible. Exam questions make no sense, even if you understand the concepts, you can't understand the problems. Lectures are unbearable bc he is constantly talking down on the class. Extra cred tho... Do not take him if you know what's good for you.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS! The only grades really are tests and barely anyone passes them. Homework helps a little but only if you get 100 and not many do. He talked about anything but Econ and would only hold class for 30 mins out of the hour & 15 mins. He doesn't care how you do in the class and sends the syllabus if you reach out about grades
The concepts are not very difficult, the math is easy but Zirlott makes the MC exams difficult with trick questions. He often goes off topic for too long during lectures, the homework offered a lot of extra credit but a lot of the problems are really tricky and if you screw up on the first submission (you have 3) you can't get full points.
I've never written a RMP review before, but I feel obligated to now. Zirlott always veers way off topic in lectures to tell random stories about his childhood or places he's been or whatever. Exams are difficult, and he's extremely unhelpful. He once let a TA walk around the room with a literal fencing sword during an exam. Don't take Zirlott.
I am currently taking him and I would not recommend. The tests are very hard! He basically uses a tricky method that makes it hard to really know what the questions are saying. He rambles a lot in lectures. I studied at least a week for all tests but still couldn't score above a D. The homework is extra credit which is what's saving me from failing
Everyone talks about how terrible he is, but if you actually go to class and do the mindtap assignments, it's a very easy class. And he gives you the exact things to study for before the exams.
Not as bad as everyone says, if you go to class consistently and do ALL the homework, you should do just fine.
Don't take Zirlott, spends half of the lectures yapping about random stuff instead of making sure class understands his presentations, Walsh is great, take him in Micro.
The coursework/homework was just horrible. The homework was only part of your grade and if you messed up it would ruin your overall score. It's mostly based off of only 3 tests (not including final) and if you don't do well on those you're done. He rambles too much and has tricky questions on the test. Isn't passionate about helping students learn.
Took his class last semester, and it is not nearly as bad as people make it out to be. His lectures were a bit dull, but he very much provided all the information you needed in a clear manner. Go to class, do the homework, and if you're stuck, go to office hours or actually read the textbook?
Honestly, don't take Zirlott. The homework is hard and will take you a long time, and if you get an answer wrong it will count against your grade. The only grades are the homework and tests, and the homework doesn't prepare you for his test. Also the other professors of this course offer a curve for the tests and he is the only that does not.
Unfortunately, he's the best option for econ 110. He wastes so much time in his lectures talking about personal stories or trying to show off his random knowledge. His personality is pretty insufferable but the class isn't too bad if you DO YOUR HOMEWORK and study for the tests.
I HATE ZIRLOTT if u have never taken econ before do not take him. His lectures do absoulety nothing, they teach you nothing. Half the time he talks about nonsense. the homework doesnt help with the test because the questions are not similar at all. there is alot of extra credit which is the only reason i passed this class
try to get any other professor then him, he's nice and funny but goes extremely off topics in lectures and just is not a good teacher, his tests are also extremely hard, I didn't miss a single class and studied extremely hard for all the tests and barely am passing by, if your good at econ you may be fine but if not your screwed if he's ur teacher

This class was tough, but if you go to class and take notes, you will pass. Most of the people who say that it is impossible likely didn't go to class because he covered the material well and gave many hints. If you take this class, do the A+ test prep in MINDTAP; it's great test prep.
He barely makes sense when he teaches. Just do the home work and look at the slides on his blackboard page . Terrible teacher. One of those professors who thinks he's funny when in reality he's extremely boring and corny.
Zirlott isnt horrible his test can be brutal for people who struggle with reading questions word for word. I averaged like 15 hours studying for each exam and came out with like a 76 average on them. Always got the math right but the others screwed me. He gives extra credit so do your HW saved my ass and he rounded my grade from a 86.5 to an 87.
If you are going to take Ec110(Microeconomics), Do not take this teacher! His test are very challenging. The lectures are somewhat structured towards the test but a lot of it is application and less definition. The only grades you will get from his class are 4 test and homework points at the end. I will say the homework is a HUGE help.

Go to class even without attendance mandatory bc he will give you test questions and answers to prepare you. He goes through the slides and tells you what is needed and what is not. Gives study guides that have the exact topics of the test. I studied night before tests and made A+ in the entire class. If you focus from the start you will be good.
Zirlott hate is so forced. If you go are someone who goes to class regularly, TAKE HIM. He remembers faces which will help you out. Very fair grading that is the same as his micro class. That being said, his macro is a lot harder than his micro class, but he definitely compensates throughout the semester. Mid Bs on tests & 127/100 on hw ended w A+
He is a terrible, boring teacher. He just reads through the lecture notes and doesn't actually teach anything. He goes off topic and loves to hear himself talk. We once spent 15 minutes talking about amusement parks for no apparent reason. The exam material is not reflective of the lecture notes. Don't waste your time with him. Take anyone else.

I feel like you can pass zirlott's class if you can do like a C on every test. Even though I failed the class, I would rather take him again than anyone else because you can actually get bonus points from the homework. He does yaps and just tells you to take certain notes during class and his homework doesn't help either so don't stay after class.
I cannot express how much I advise against taking his class. You can think you understand the topics and then you get to the exam and the questions are completely different. His lectures are useless since he constantly gets side tracked and talks about himself excessively.
110 was WAY too hard for an intro level class.
His class is actually awful and so many students had to drop and take it at a community college. He just rambles all class and his homework is completely opposite from his class.

I personally did not enjoy his class. The homework, while good for bonus points, is pretty different from the material he lectures in class. The tests are the same way. They're harder than they need to be. He puts in a lot of trick questions or questions from irrelevant material. He brags about people failing his tests, which is a bit concerning.
His lectures are so different from what is on the test. He gives a very strange vibe as if he is talking down to students, and often goes on tangents during class. Really the only plus is that he does not take attendance, but the only grades are your 4 exams and one big homework grade so it is easy to fall behind or tank your grade.

Yelled at class for getting too many A's, test questions are confusing. MINDTAP is hard and what you learn is rarely if ever on the tests. The lectures are't mandatory however most of the class he teaches about stuff thats not tested on, and goes on tangents often. You are graded on four things, do bad on one exam and your grade will not recover.
Dr. Zirlott is an excellent professor. He explains everything clearly, is super patient with questions, and genuinely wants students to succeed. You can tell he cares about the material and the students, and his classes always feel well organized. One of the best professors I've had at UA.

You're better off taking EC online. He goes on random tangents throughout class. The mindtap is difficult and most of the material you learn is not even on the test. The exams are worded weirdly.
There is too much information per exam, and the notes/study guides are not very helpful. The professor himself is very funny though, and genuinely cares. This is absolutely a class where you need to reach out to him often for help, as he will provide it. He does go on tangents a lot, be prepared to hear about his hometown.
To start, the material itself is not super difficult but the exam questions are worded weird and tend to make the exams pretty difficult. I did not struggle too bad with the exams though because I used DrAzevedoEcon on youtube who explains things in great detail and these videos always helped me before exams. DO THE PRACTICE that Dr Zirlott gives.
This class is tough, but it is very passable. I have never studied for a class as much as this one, but it paid off thankfully. 3 tests and a final exam, all of which are in class and 50 MC questions. Homework is unnecessarily difficult and time consuming, but you can learn from it. DO THE A+ TEST PREP ON CENGAGE. It helped me so much.
Honestly he gets way to much bad rep. As long as you go to class and do your homework you are guaranteed a 70 and above. He gives soooo much extra credit, and when you think the examples he's using in class are stupid beware they will show up on the test!!! Utilize his TA's they will be your best friend.
This professor is not as bad as everyone makes it seem. There is plenty of extra credit if you actually complete the homework, which is harder than the tests but can raise your grade a full letter. The A+ Test Prep is also really helpful on MindTap to prepare for exams. Use the TAs, go to class, and study consistently bc econ is a tough subject.
The only people who do not like Zirlott are the Greek life kids who don't bother showing up to class ever. He gives out so much extra credit that if you do all of that and the homework and at least partially are competent you will do just fine. Also he doesn't really go on tangents, just uses real life examples to explain course concepts.

Constantly mentions that the tests are so challenging then the week after a test he rants at us about how many students failed during lectures. He has constant personal conversations with his TA mid lectures. He is very condescending and brags about how easy it is for him to fail students. He gave 10 bonus points to only one class. Do not take him.
