it is pretty bad when you know that your teacher hates his career. He does not want you to learn accounting...just wants you to pass. Homework is confusing.
For a night class it was a little tough to bear since the proff would show an endless amount of overheads to get through the chapter. His handwriting is a mess and some of his explinations are really unclear. His tests are tricky and although he curves his class is not so great overall!
This teacher is wonderful. Ignore the other comments. Doesn't grade h.w.-just makes sure u attempted. curves. financial statements are easy. h.w. is easy. Review terms for test and its a easy A. U don't even have to do h.w. he goes over it in class. Makes accnt. easy.
yeah an easy A, but you really won't learn anything. Nice guy, but not a good accounting teacher.
may not be for acct majors, but for the rest of us he's great! he is very accessible and the curve is generous. i got a b, just study the book and you'll do fine.
I agree, this man hates his profession and it shows. Boring class, especially night class. He's hard to understand and his writing and lectures are the worst. If you are an accounting major stay away, but I taught myself out of the book and got an A.
Class is easy but I have not learned much at all. Very easy going and friendly. Show up and copy down the homework and you will do fine. Definitely not for accounting majors.
If you are trying to fill a business core, this is an easy class to take. although, it is extremely boring. If you are an acct major avoid this class because you won't learn anything.
The class is very boring and dry. I wouldn't recommend him for Acct majors. He goes over all hw probles in class which helps, but lectures don't. You're better off reading the book. Grades fairly easy. Doesn't seem to like his profession!
this class is for independent studiers, if you can do well just by reading the book and doing hoemwork prob's its for you. attendance counts, which is a bore.
This man hates his job. Attendence counts. Definately for independent learners and NOT for ACCT majors. He says he likes to make tests hard and then curve the class-curve revealed at the end.
He was a great professor, and he loves his job. I would take him again in a heart beat. We went over every single homework problem in class, and tests were generously curved. Show up an you are good to go.
He was a GREAT teached and he likes his job alot. Format is two 75 point tests and three 25 point cases. The two tests get combined with the first 2 cases, so your test end up being worth a total of 100 points, so it helps if you do well on your cases. He does take attendance. Great teacher and I would recommend taking him for accounting
Acct 201. Same grading system as described below. Very helpful and loves his job. I would highly recommend doing the mc in the end of the chapters because the mc on the tests are very similar. Also he will give great hints to what the work problems on the test. Lastly, he does every homework problem on the board so copy them down.
Great guy. First year teaching tax. Made it simple and straightforward. Study the slides and repeat homework problems and you should be fine. He gives a pretty sexy curve, too.
He really likes his job, and it shows. He knows his stuff and really wants all his students succeed. Does every single problem on the board and explains them fully. Even gave his personal cell phone number for you to call if you had any doubts. Just make sure you do the homework before hand and just not copy them off the board = not enough practice
Great guy, very dry but hilarious sense of humor too. He is very helpful, and he goes over everything you need to know concisely and with clarity. You will learn a lot, and if you show up and do the homework you can't get less than a B.
Great Professor. Extremely helpful, thorough, and wants everyone to do well. He doesn't hand out A's but if you do the homework and attend class you will do very well.
He is funny, but in an odd way..ha. He is very helpful, and offers a great curve. Although, getting an A isn't that easy. Show up to class and do your HW and you should get a B. Wish he could teach other accounting classes...
Actually really like this guy. He goes over every homework problem in class, this is how he teaches. So if you don't like that, don't take him! He doesn't surprise you on the tests. He gives you points for attending class. Has a good sense of humor. You'll learn; take him.
THE best accounting teacher Loyola has to offer. Was a major accountant at some firm back in the day and knows accounting situations. 3 Tests, HW assignments which he goes over in class, EASY case studies, Final Exam. VERY STRAIGHT FORWARD CLASS AND GRADING. MUST TAKE ACCT TEACHER!
Great teacher. Really cares about his student and genuinely wants them to learn. Very helpful and his lectures are straightforward. Do the homework and pay attention when he goes over it in class. Attendence is important. He will remember if you don't show. Wish he was teaching acct 202, but I guess I will have to wait for tax accounting
Foutty is your guy if you like seeing a man's back for an entire class. He explains problems faster than an old west auctioneer and his handwriting rivals a third graders. Other than that and the fact you lose points for missing class, he's great! P.S. the accounting research project takes you 20 hours.
Foutty in an amazing professor. He goes over every single HW assignment and is clear on what to expect on the exams. If you believe his class is too difficult or time consuming, it is not b/c he is not a good professor, but rather you don't belong at LUC. & you wont find an acct 202 professor that only grades the annual report proj for COMPLETION!
LOVE THIS GUY. Obviously accounting is a bit of a dry subject. He tries to make it interesting. More importantly he is straightforward, knowledgeable, and cares about students success. I took Foutty for 201 and waited to take him for 202. P.S. Accounting project is required for all 202 accounting classes. Foutty grades for COMPLETION not accuracy.
Go to class, do your homework, and this class is an easy A. Of course that should be the formula for every class, but he explains things well, is very clear on what is expected, and isn't looking to trick you on tests. If you do your homework before class (about 2 hours of time per week) you will have no problem getting an A.
Great Accounting teacher, easily one of the best at Loyola. He's clear about what's on the three test and assigns 3 EASY briefs. Points for homework that he does in class and points for going to class. Save yourself some trouble and take this class.
Must take if interested in ACCT. 3 exams which were hw questions with numbers changed. He was a accountant, so he provides real life stories to what he is teaching. HW is graded on completion. Taking him for 202 because I enjoyed him for 201. Allows a couple missed classes.
Guy is extremely clear on what the class is going to be like. Do the homework (that he does for you) and study for the tests and you'll do great! The accounting project is an easy A. Overall great class and highly recommended to get your business core accounting done with!
Good teacher, doesn't mind if you don't do the homework it's okay because he goes over it the next day and you get to correct answers, but he does collect it during test days so make sure you end up doing it. Good teacher. Grade consisted of 3 tests, a final, attendance, 3 worksheets, and attempting the homework.
Foutty is a great teacher. He is very friendly and encourages questions and office hours. He responds to emails very quickly too and is able to put things in simple terms. I'm not good at accounting or math, but he made sure to explain it to me.
He goes over every homework problem and gives you all of the correct answers in class so you know exactly how to do the short answer problems on tests. You need to do the homework for practice though because he is picky about some test answers. Over all he is very helpful.
Foutty is a very straight forward professor that genuinely wants you to learn. He goes over every hw problem then has you turn them in, exams are fair and directly from the hw and lecture, lots of points to cushion your grade. One of the best classes I have taken at Loyola
He assigns you homework problems, then goes over each and every one of them in class. Whatever he asked you to do on the hw, he asks on the exam. No surprises. Very clear on the explaining, too.
Great guy. Goes through all homework problems. Tests are kinda hard but he gives out lots of other points for cases, homework, attendance, ect. I had to study a lot and thought I was legitimately going to fail the course. No clue how I pulled through with a B. But I'm taking him for ACCT 202 so he's not that bad.
Nice, professional guy, TERRIBLE LECTURER. Does not teach during class, just copies problems from the book onto the board. It's tough especially since this is an introductory accounting class and most people have no background in it whatsoever. Also, he gives really long and tedious online homework assignments. Expects too much. Avoid if possible.
Attendance isn't graded but is very beneficial. Goes over all homework problems. Either do the hw before class or go over tough problems after. There are two homework assignments for every chapter but they don't take very long. Look over PowerPoints for multiple choice questions.
This is an entry level accounting course, I had no accounting background. Foutty at the end of the day was a boring teacher, his lectures were him reading off the power points and copying book problems onto the board. If you do the online homework honestly, and take notes in class you will not have a problem getting an A. I got an A
Foutty's intro class is very straightforward. He works through all the problems you need to know on the board and offers many chances to meet with him outside of class. You can tell he respects his students. All-around great guy and a great professor. I plan to take his 202 class.
He is a really good professor! He gives out homework, but won't collect it. He goes over the homework and that really helps when its time for the test. Online homework that are worth the same as the test, so if you do good on that perfect. Really nice and responds to emails super fast!
Makes a big effort to be clear in a subject that is confusing to many students. Very helpful, checks his email often for student questions, and is available for help even outside of his office hours. Would definitely recommend.
He is a really great professor and would recommend him to anyone ! He is very clear and will answer any questions. Also, he makes accounting very interesting! Highly recommend!
Kent is the best! Very accessible for help- even on weekends. Usually is clear, but if you don't get something he is more than willing to clarify or walk you through a problem-even if he needs to explain it more than once. He wants students to succeed&truly cares. Accounting can be difficult but Kent makes it easy. He's also a great person overall.
Great professor! Really cares about his students. The structure of this course assists those that do not grasp accounting easily. He has three tests, a take home final, a corporate annual report project, a final, homework is 30% but it really helps and its super easy! Attendance helps you if you are on the fence with a grade. Take him!
Very energetic and pleasant. Tests aren't too difficult if you do the homework and pay attention to example problems. Lectures can be super dry and cover a lot of material. Online homework can be annoying but is manageable. Final is cummulative and is mostly working problems from scratch so if you don't know the concepts you will struggle.
Mr. Foutty is very knowledgeable about the subject he teaches. The class is clearly organized and if you follow the syllabus you'll be fine. He offers help whenever is needed, even if it's outside of his office hours. I would definitely take him again.
I took the writing intensive 328. Professor Foutty is very knowledgeable about the tax code and accounting methods given his experience in those fields. He provides great powerpoint slides on Sakai that serve as notes on the book. His tests are generally easier than the textbook problems. He's also a pretty fair grader.
His lectures are very helpful, connect homework is super easy and doable, there are 3 cases/"projects" which are also easy, 3 exams and cumulative final. Responds to email super fast and is more than willing to meet past his office hours if you need help. Deff would take him again if I could!
Great professor. Shortened the material so it wasn't overwhelming for a intro. to tax class but to an extent that it will be very useful to any accounting major hoping to work in tax in the real world. Easy exams if you do the optional homework problems.
Professor Foutty is a great professor that explains topics thoroughly. He assigns problems to do outside of class (not graded) and then he goes over them in class. Material on exams is nothing unexpected. Homework is online (graded) and you get unlimited tries. Three exams, one final exam, and three case studies. Overall great class.
Foutty is great because his lectures are very clear and easy to follow. Assigns in class homework that isn't graded and goes over them in class. Online homework and you can submit unlimited times to get 100%. Tests aren't too hard, he tells you what to study for the most part. Super friendly and always willing to help.
Foutty gives the typical connect homework which can be difficult only because its a little different from what he teaches. 3 case studies make a nice little boost along with attendance grade. He tells you exactly what will be on each exam and with a good amount of prep are fairly easy. Would take again
One of the best profs out there. Truly an Easy A in this class if you show up and do your homework when it's due. Highly recommend !!!
Same structure as 201 plus an Annual Report project that he grades for completion. Easy lectures, and the tests are easy as long as you study. Very clear about what he'll be testing you on. Take home portion of the final.
Take him!! The class isn't hard but he will make sure he helps you if you need it. Such a good professor. Tries to make the topic as interesting as posssible (it is accounting). There's connect HW due throughout the semester, 3 case studies and then tests.
I took him for 201, loved him so much I took him again for 202. Nicest guy ever. He really cares like a father does and helps you with what ever you need. His finals are hard and he is a little hard to follow sometimes but if you ask him in office hours it clears it right up. 3 exams and a final, connect homework, and a case study.
3 Exams, accounting project, and homework for credit. Project isn't hard just takes a while, exams are not tough as long as you practice the in class problems and homework. Multiple choice parts of exams can be challenging, attendance isn't taken but does factor in if he decides to round up. Lectures can get dry but that's the topic, recommend
Professor Foutty's class makes me want to become an accounting major. His class is pretty straight forward. The book homework is exactly what is going to be on the test. He has office hours a lot and is really approachable. He takes attendance everyday, and there is online homework. He also gives out little projects, but with controlf they are easy
I loved professor foutty. he really cares about how his students do in his class. he's super straight forward, and the homework is basically his exams
BEST choice for intro counting. Is always available outside of class. Really specific about grading and tests are very clear on what he expects
Literally the post teacher I've ever had. He really cares if you do well and you can email him with any questions and he answers pretty quick. He explains everything super well. His dad jokes are amazing. Definitely take him if you can.
Foutty is the man! He is so nice and really wants his students to learn. Tests can be pretty challenging, but if you read the book and go to his office hours you'll do fine! I will say the final was extremely difficult, but cushion your grade from the beginning to avoid backlash from the final.
If you are looking for an easy A class, do not take it. Although I love Professor Foutty, I do believe that he goes really fast when teaching new material. I had to study a lot to fully comprehend what we were studying. Very accessible outside of class for assistance. Tests are challenging, so you need to study really hard.
Foutty is a great teacher thats super helpful and will work with any student. Great guy, better teacher. You will really know accounting by the end of it.
I went from an A to a B because of the final.
Prof Foutty is a decent teacher, but if you're not good with numbers and memorization, you will not be happy with your grade. His final is on. all 10 accounting ch, making it extremely difficult to get a good grade. wouldn't recommend him if accounting isn't your major.
Professor Foutty is so sweet! He really cares about his students and makes himself available outside of class for any questions. Highly recommend him!
Great guy and easy class. Do the homework, learn the homework, and you'll do fine on the exams. One project but it takes forever. However, if you do the project you will get an A. TAKE HIM
Professor Foutty is caring and understanding. Although the material can feel fast at times, if you keep up with homework and pay attention in class, it should be very manageable. Goes out of his way to make himself available for students' needs in and out of the classroom.
Lecture heavy but the class is straight forward. Grade consists of 3 tests, a final, online homework with unlimited attempts, and participation grade which is just attendance. Will answer all questions you have and tests problems are basically the problems he does in class. He also has a ton of experience so I would recommend for accounting majors.
Took him for 201 and loved him so much that I'm taking him for 202 as well. Foutty really is a great professor but the material is really hard to understand as he goes through it fast. Do all of the homework and you'll do well. Attendance is taken every day. Overall grade consists of 3 exams, homework, a case study, attendance and final.
He's very experienced in accounting but that being said, he can't quite make it interesting. I find myself wanting to sleep, lectures are long and he just goes over basic powerpoints. You need to read since he just skims the material at best. Be prepared to sit there and just stare off into the distance.
Clear about every assignment since day 1. Online homework is easy because you have unlimited attempts. Test are exactly what he teaches. Very clear and open to questions. Definitely recommend
He goes way to fast with the material, i was lost af. Does not explain how it all fits together. He just did homework problems for class. Do not take i'm traumatized by accounting now.
Foutty is good for someone that really uses their time outside of class to dig deeper into the material on their own. if you rely on lectures and professors to teach you everything then he is not the guy for you. Exams are hard but do able. Final is impossible so don't even bother to study.
There are better Accounting professors at Loyola. Do not take him unless you want A LOT of homework and hard exams. Save your GPA and take someone else.
I could not recommend him enough! Hes such an easy going guy and the expectations for the class are really clear. The people who are giving him bad scores are the ones who probably didnt put any effort in the class. Seriously, take him!
He talks super fast and his handwriting is super bad so sometimes it's hard to understand what's going on. The homework isn't bad because you have so many tries and each homework comes along with extra credit as well. He's a cool dude but his class is pretty boring.
Pretty decent teacher. Did send a good deal of HW but it mostly just requires you to spend time working on it. Appreciate that he sometimes gives partial credit for problems you don´t get quite right.
Loved him! Super nice and makes time to help outside of class and through emails. Goes through things quickly so studying is a must but the homework helps a lot with that and there's always extra credit on it too. Exams are easy but only if you know what you're doing. One of my favorite professors so far! Taking him again for 202.
This is one of the best professors at Loyola! He is really caring and wants his students to do well! He explains homework perfectly and the exams are basically laid out for you a few days before! Take him, you won't regret it!
Foutty is a fine teacher if you know what you're doing. He expects a lot of you so get ready for that. During lectures, he goes very fast and his handwriting is horrible but if you have questions, he's happy to answer them. He doesn't like students taking notes on his slides and the tests are pretty hard even if you study. 3 exams, 1 cumu. final.
I took Foutty because of his good scores on here. However, I was not impressed. His fast talking and HORRIBLE handwriting made it really difficult to follow along in class. He was by no means a horrible professor, and in general he was a nice guy, but I felt like he expected a lot out of us.
Professor Foutty understands that accounting can be difficult and makes himself accessible to those who need help, along with providing other alternatives. He would lecture one class and we would go over problem sets in the other class. The class was scheduled from 4-5:15 but we almost always got out before 5. Definitely would take him again!
I took Foutty for 201 and 202 and I love the way he organizes his classes. It is clear from the beginning what you have to do to do well. The lectures are boring and some of the class is self-taught but if you put in the time and effort, the class is not that difficult. Like most accounting classes, 3 exams, connect homework, annual report, final
I took Professor Foutty for 201 and 202 as he is really such a great guy. He teaches because he loves accounting and it shows in class. It took me awhile to get used to the class structure as there is online Preclass and homework. He gives lots of room for extra credit and as long as you stay on top of the work you will do well.
Professor Foutty is okay. He has very high expectations for his students and usually expresses that multiple times throughout the semester. His tests can be difficult and too long for the amount of time given for them. If youre okay with working a bit for your grade take him.
Professor Foutty is awesome. He is passionate about accounting which definitely makes him credible. He is well organized and clear with grades. His lectures are PowerPoint based and he does example problems in class. His exams can be a bit difficult, but if you go to him for an explanation he is willing to help. I recommend!!!!
If you are an accounting major, or have excellent memory ,then you will do absolutely fine in the class. If you are not an accounting major, this class will preoccupy so much of your time it is ridiculous. I truly felt I missed out learning from my other classes (classes I had interests in) bc of this class.
Kenton is honestly a great professor that genuinely wants you to succeed. He does give a lot of homework, so be prepared to dedicate a lot of time to his class. His handwriting is close to illegible, and he talks very fast, but overall a great first-year class.
Foutty is a great teacher and if you understand his class layout style you should have no problems. no graded homework but you need to do it to understand and pass. Each chapter has a lecture class and a class where he does the homework problems. Asks questions or else he won't go in depth. Every class ends 10 minutes early which is awesome.
Foutty is an amazing person and really makes accounting less boring. His class is a lot of work, but he is very accessible and he truly cares about his students. Connect homework for each chapter and online tests that you can do multiple times for a higher grade.
I personally love Professor Foutty. He is an awesome guy. I will say his classes are hard. You will have to really study before exams and make sure you understand the material fully. He is really accessible though. If you put no effort in, you simply will not pass.
Prof. Foutty is a great professor, but his lectures are really long and boring.
Prof. Foutty is an ok choice for 202. His lectures can be boring, all he does is go through practice problems. It's up to you to learn the rest of the material. He gives lots of HW but its worth doing because the exams can be hard. I had him for 201 and this class was way easier. Overall, not too bad.
Professor Foutty is amazing. I took him for 201 as well and he explains the material very clearly. He goes over problems in class so that you will know how to do the homework, and know what to expect on the tests.
this dude heavy heavy fr and he got them havy havy
Nice guy, terrible prof! His handwriting is awful- you can't read anything and he talks to the board the whole time. He talks really fast and doesn't really give time to ask questions. His exams are insanely difficult and confusing. HW is on Connect (multiple attempts, takes highest score, worth 40%), project is also easy if you just do the work.
Not an easy class if you didn't understand Acct 201, but would take again. He's funny and is clear about what will be on the test. He does lots of problems in class, which are helpful when studying for tests.
I have never felt so lost in a class made to be easy, Everything is straightforward if he can teach. He practically comes into the class talks at the board/wall and expects us to understand everything without explination. It is a rare for him to actually answer a question properly. And MY GOD his hand writing is worse than a 3 year old.
He's a decent professor. Lectures are mainly just him going over exercises and practice problems on the board. His handwriting is dreadful so it's easy to get confused. He also goes through the problems kinda fast so PAY ATTENTION.
For ACCT 303 - No EC, Three Exams - Beware if you do poorly on the first two - drop. No study guides (unless you count one or two problems) Banned Tech, poor handwriting on board, boring. In my personal opinion, I would never take him again unless forced. Its easy if you actually do all the work and can sit through his boring lectures. + Book $$$$$
Treats the class as if everyone is an accounting major. Tons of work but way more points from hw so you can afford to do average on exams and still pass with a good grade. Great professor if you are an accounting major but if not look for a better option. No tech whatsoever in class, tons of problems and a lot of hw.
For 303: Nice guy, but did not like his lecture style at all. He reads directly from the slides and has a no-laptop policy. Lectures are not engaging and difficult to learn from. Course is still fairly easy, but didn't learn as much as I hoped to. Spent a lot of time on the course outside of class due to lacking lectures.
Lectures were boring and he moved through the example problems fast. He is dry but wants to help you so don't be afraid to ask him questions. Attempt to do the homework BEFORE EXAMPLE DAY and it is not that bad. Listen to what he tells you to do in order to do well in the class, and you will be fine.
(303) Although this was an online class, he was very accessible and helpful. I emailed him and also zoomed with him for extra homework help. Lectures can be long and boring, but nothing terrible. As long as you pay attention and ask questions you will do will
Class was easy I had an issue with submitting the second part of the project and I emailed him when I realized the mistake (last couple days of the semester) I sent him the project a screenshot the timestamp [creation and last modification] he still refused to change it dropped me from an A to a B- although there was proof that it was a Sakai issue
Prof Foutty does not really dedicate his time to actually teach students, his online class might be better, but in person it is not. The exams are very difficult, gives no guidance at all on what could possible be on the exam, you are expected to know everything which is understandable but at the same time this is already a hard course.
