Love this teacher. Shes great at what she teaches. Taking Sociology for the firt time, really wants me to learn more about it! Her quizes are simple just alot of in class notes, but VERY helpful! I really recomend this class!
She is a great professor. She really does care whether you pass the class or not. Plus she's got an incredible sense of style. GREAT TEACHER!
Prof. Francis is way too cool! She should be a tenured prof. at UNLV. Very helpful, and she is also hot! She makes this class really easy. There is no reason why you can't get an A in thios class. All of your notes are in the textbook if you read it. all answers to test also lie inside the boook. i LOVE THE FILMS THAT SHE SHOWED IN CLASS.
Her class was the best. We are suppose to read the ch. in advance, but her lectures are staight from the book. You don't have homework and the films we watch are extra okay. She is so compassionate and cares about her students & the course. She is the best. I really loved her teaching ability and I HIGHLY recommend her class. You won't be sorry.
great teacher. very easy class. just notes and class discussions after the in class movies. only 2 quizzes, midterm and final. she really cared about you as an individual and knew a lot about what she was teaching. i would recommend her! fun class! :)
Greatest teacher ever! very helpful and cares about the students. She has a way of making complicated concepts easy to grasp.
Professor Francis was really helpful and it was easy to understand everything she was trying to teach. She gave us time for class discussions. The class was always interesting. She brought up ideas that i have never thought up before. She is a really good professor as long as you show up and do the in class assignments, watch the movies and study!
Awesome Teacher Take her! She teaches very well
This teacher is great. I really enjoyes this class. There is 2 quizes and 2 tests which she gives you clear study guides for. We also watch interesting movies alot. I would definetly recommend taking this teacher!
GREAT TEACHER!! It is clear that she loves what she does and it is mirrored in the way she teaches this class. She takes the time to make sure the students understand all concepts and is extremely patient with any questions or whatever is needed. Take this class!
Awesome professor. Really fun class.. We watched movies that I thought would make me sleep, but it just got me more interested.
SHE IS AMAZING! this class was so interesting, and she REALLY cares about her students and she is passionate about what she teaches. I loved this class because of her.. take her, she is awesome!
She is a great teacher and i would take any class she taught!
Another great teacher! It's rare to find a teacher that helps their students pass. I had a great class and a great teacher. Take her, she is great!
Loved this class!! Great PROF!!She made boring things interesting!! Always willing to help anyone!! Overall a GREAT person and teacher!!
OMG ! she was the greatest teacher. she will help you out no matter if it was about sociology or not. She cares about her students each individually. by far my favorite class. i was pregnant and it was the only class i went to.
This teacher was absolutely amazing. She is passionate and knowledgable about Sociology. She is open to student questions/discussions and is willing to explain as much as she can. She is friendly, a great speaker, knowledgable, helpful and committed to helping her students learn and understand the material. Best instructor I've ever had!
She is absolutely amazing, she is very passionate about this subject and there is never a dull moment in class. There are always class discussions and she tries to get everyone involved. I highly recommend taking her class, you'll actually learn a lot and be able to apply it to the real world.
One of the best teachers I have had at UNLV. Her class is very fun and something that you will look forward to each week.
She is easy to look at and knows her stuff. Don't need the book if you always attend class and take notes. She covers test information in class and the test is online. I really liked this class and learned a lot.
She is the best teacher at UNLV. There was not a day when she was mad. She helps every student pass her class. Her tests are online. There was about 6 students who forgot to take their midterm exams online, but she still gave them an opportunity to take it. Her Class discussions are always very interesting. Her video clips always make you think.
AMMMMMMMAAAAAZINGGGGGGGG!!! great class! Kerie is a very passionate teacher and it definately shows in her teaching style! she is very very helpful and understanding! A MUST TAKE CLASS!
She is a great teacher. Her 101 class is clear and gets straight to the point. She makes the material interesting, and the films she shows in class are great. Easy assignments and tests.
If your going to school to be in the medical field, I would recommend taking her class. Her class will enlighten you to how society view doctors and medicine in general. Not to mention she is very professional, nice, crystal clear teaching, very passionate about her class and very understanding
Definitely recommend Kerie Francis. She is thorough and gets straight to the point. Lectures are interesting and does her best to relate to the students. Films are extremely interesting as well as the class discussions. Students have the option to either participate in class or online. Used book for midterm and final. Easiest A ever! Take her!
This is the best sociology class ever. Attendance is mandatory, but it wouldn't matter after you realize how fun this class is. The midterm and final are posted online for a couple of days, therefore you can use your notes and books. All notes are shown in class by a powerpoint so it makes it easier to follow. The movies shown are very interesting.
This woman is wonderful! So smart and intelligent I can only hope to be like her in the future. Class is easy. Don't really have to read the text book. Test online and is multiple choice.
Awesome teacher, extremely passionate about the subject. Makes the class interesting and fun! Movies are really eye-opening. You will remember what you learned in this class. Love her!
Awesome teacher, extremely passionate about the subject. Makes the class interesting everytime. I took her for 101, and also for Medical Sociology. It's a dense subject, but she makes it very easy to understand. No textbook, but LOTS of internet reading. (Lots of readings for discussions.) No tests! Just a paper.
I absolutely loved this class! Professor Francis is THE most amazing professor at UNLV. She is extremely friendly, helpful, and passionate about sociology. I learned so much from this class and I highly recommend taking any of her classes as well as this one.
Very easy class. Professor Francis was very helpful and always motivated coming to class. She rarely had homework and the only two exams were online. There were assigned readings but I never bought the book and ended up getting A's on both of the tests. I would highly recommend taking her
She is really an amazing teacher! The way she teaches makes learning about sociology very interesting. She basically reads the book to you in her lectures. I didn't buy the book and still did fine on my exams :) I would really recommend her!
This class was definitely one of the coolest classes that I've taken in college so far. At the time, I wanted to be a doctor, so I took this class. However, during the middle of the semester, I figured out that the medical profession wasn't for me. The topics discussed in class are super interesting and there are a lot of discussions.
I've took classes in Japan as well as Europe, but no professor has topped Mrs. Kerie! She's an amazing professor, I love her energetic teaching style. She's very patient and helpful. If I could take all my college courses with her I would. This professor loves her job and I admire her dedication. I learned so much from her!
What an amazing teacher. She has such a great out look on the world. She has videos throughout the semester and I would advise you go because questions will be on the test. During lectures she will tell you pretty much what is on the test and what is not.She is teaching SOC 102 Fall and im sure that will be a really good class. Only Midterm & final
Great teacher! Enthusiastic. Easy workload. No quizzes. Midterm and Final were both online. Only downside is she does not put up powerpoints, so you have to take a lot of notes.
Love her teaching method, personality, and voice. Talks with confidence and humor. Midterm and final are online. Lectures are powerpoints that are words from the book. Tells you what you need to know for the test. Shows interesting films for awareness. Attendance is mandatory. Wish she was my mom.
SUCH a good professor! Interesting, easy class. No homework aside from video worksheets that you can complete in class. Honestly considering switching my major to SOC because I took this class...
She is amazing! Super easy class. I found myself talking about the things I learned outside the class, especially from the movies we watched. We had discussions in class and questions for homework about the films. Midterm and final were online. She also gave exact study guides for them. One paper. Very easy A.
great class
One of my favorite professors by far! Dry humor, and is super funny. Very interesting lectures, and videos. Not too many assignments. Overall great course and professor.
If you're taking Soc 101 you need to take her!! She's so passionate about the class and makes the time go by quickly. Take notes of everything on her powerpoint because her midterm and final (both online) are exactly from it. Never need to read the textbook. I got a 96% on the midterm and never read anything; just took notes on my laptop.
Her class is extremely easy. Most of This class is spent watching films about sociology, but she is knowledgable about the subject. Also There are two exams both taken online. Take her class!!!
GREAT CLASS! I would definitely take again
Prof. Francis was great. I would recommend reading out of the textbook because it makes the tests so much easier, but they're also online so it was pretty easy. We watched a lot of videos in the class and they're all interesting, I wouldn't want to skip those.
Easiest class I've taken. Lectures go by really fast and her tests are super easy. She only gives a midterm and a final and they're both online. Didn't have a textbook and got A's on both exams. As long as you take notes from her powerpoint and attend class regularly, you'll get an A
Really a fantastic teacher. I took SOC 101. I have never been bored in this class and was surprised by how much I learned in one semester. She wants you to buy the textbook but I only touched it once. Her lectures are extremely informative and provide you with everything you need in order to pass the class. I definitely recommend this class.
Great teacher, goes over material wonderfully, and actually cares about the students. She is a great person who want to make class interesting. Would take again.
Social science classes always interest me, but she was so clear at explaining everything. There is almost no way you could fail if you showed up to class, which seemed long, but at least class was interesting. THERE WERE MOVIES. You do have to do assignments on them which were no more than 10 questions on your opinion and making sure you showed up.
Kerie's just a wonderful professor. She's smart and witty and makes class fun and interesting. As long as you stay on top of the notes from the powerpoints and turn in the film question sheets the class should be a breeze.
She is an amazing professor. Her lectures have really changed the way I see the world. You know, that is what a professor is suppose to do, impact you and she did. Her class is easy taking notes is a must. Watch like 5 movies that have assignments to each one. Final and midterm are open book and online. If you don' take her class your missing out.
EASY A. Two online tests. That's it
Professor Francis is awesome! Really easy class. Lectures are long but straightforward. Multiple in-class films with free response questions due the next class. Just provide some depth on your answers. Drops lowest 2 of these. 2 online tests. Both really straightforward, and she gives study guides. One short, easy reflection paper.
Honestly, she's the best professor that I've had. I loved this class. Lecture was interesting and you actually learn. Tests were not difficult if you used your textbook and PowerPoints. Looking for another class to take with her!
Classical social theory is tough to read but Dr. Francis makes it interesting. Her lectures make the material easier to understand and she's funny. Great in-class discussions of the text. Homework other than reading the text is 4 short essays, 350 word limit. Only 2 essay exams that aren't very difficult. I definitely recommend her class for 421!
Prof. Francis was an amazing professor! Fairly broad material (survey class) but she explains in great and clear detail! Big into real world examples, applications and discussions after the six films! No powerpoints posted but going to class to take notes was always enjoyable. Don't miss the online exams, participate and have fun! Take her!
Watch a few movies, fill out a couple reaction assignments, and take two exams online. Easiest class in the world. She is amazing (and beautiful). I would recommend taking this class in person because you will get so much more out of it. I would take her again, she is really nice and extremely well spoken. Be open minded :)
Dr. Francis is a great teacher. Her lectures are clear, and the conversations in her classroom are immensely helpful. She will explain and discuss an idea 30 different ways until shes sure everyone grasps the material. She is available to help outside of class, and really makes what had the potential to be a dry subject REALLY interesting.
Prof. Francis is awesome! Really easy class. 6 Films with discussion questions due next class. 1 Essay at the end of the year (easy!) She has a few surprise attendance assignments (cant make them up). She drops your lowest film questions. I would take her again. You do need the book, but she doesn't care what edition. Great class!
Dr. Francis is hands down one of the best professors I've had at UNLV. She makes the material (even the boring stuff) very interesting. Great class discussions, 6 films with discussion questions due next class, an easy essay and two tests that are online! Seriously can't get any better than Dr. Francis. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
Dr. Francis is amazing! She is passionate about what she teaches and makes it interesting! The documentaries we watched were amazing. The midterm and final are online so you can use your notes. You DON'T need to read the textbook,so do not get it because her lectures are based on it unless you don't plan attending class. She takes random attendance
This course was amazing. She is very passionate instructor and tries to make the material interesting. The class was overall pretty easy, you watch a couple of films and answer questions on them. The exams are online and she gives you a study guide on them, so it makes your life a lot easier. Would take this course again!!
Absolutely loved her class. Her lectures are never boring, she's so passionate about everything she teaches which makes her class so interesting. Only 2 exams throughout the semester, which were both online and very straight forward. Would definitely recommend!
Dr. Francis is easily one of my favorite professors at UNLV! Her class is very informative and fun, with film discussions being my favorite parts. She's very down-to-earth and passionate about what she teaches. Dr. Francis treats her students more like colleagues than subordinates, which is refreshing! I would take this class again in a heartbeat!
No textbook, lots of online reading. Watched and reviewed 4 documentaries. 13 or so discussion posts but she drops 6 lowest grades. A few guest speakers. Also had to do a project on tumblr. Overall, great, fairly easy class. Dr. Francis is a fantastic prof. Lectures are interesting and she encourages students to participate in class discussions.
Great Class!!! She is seriously the best Sociology professor at UNLV!
The content is what makes this course difficult (it's boring), not the professor. She tries her best. This course is really facilitated by discussion, so make sure to participate otherwise it can get really zzz-worthy fast. Fair grader, but watch out because midterm x final is 80% of your total grade.
Overall an easy A. She's really funny and her TA is cool too. Material is interesting and easy to comprehend. Film questions, two exams, an easy two page guided essay, and random simple in class writing assignments. After this is decided to minor in sociology. Dr. Francis is cool, I'm already in one of her other classes.
I think her class is easy if you are not very busy. I couldnt have the time to really study the material to do better but there were only four assignments based on textbooks questions and two exams (essay-questions only). Out of 6 questions, I like that you get to choose 2 out of 5 to answer and only 1 you must answer.
Dr. Francis is great! Take good notes and you won't need the textbook. If you ever need to read something on your own, just get the copy that's on reserve at the library. Apart from the lectures, there are films with corresponding questions which are pretty easy. Random in-class writing assignments and 2 exams online. Overall, 10/10 would recommend
Great teacher! If you show up to class, take notes, and study class should be an easy A!
Easy A class. Just show up & take the notes & you should be okay. She emphasizes the book is important, but you don't need it. Gives study guides for exams which are done online & you have a week to do it. She's a little into herself at times, but lectures can be boring yet interesting. The films she shows are awesome. But easy A, take her.
She is easily one of the best professors on campus. She is kind, caring, and understanding. I take all of her courses. It's an easy A but, you also learn and retain so much interesting information. Weekly discussion posts, 5 movie reviews, 3 critical reviews, and a Tumblr final. She is passionate about this course, which makes it all the better.
Dr. Francis is by far one of my favorite professors! The class isn't hard to pass. The attendance wasn't mandatory but she does take attendance & can boost your grade up if you're on the fence with your grade. Our hw was easy & there was no midterm or final exams. She's funny & is like that one friend's mom that's really cool. LOL. Take her class!
Gives out a study guide for exams. Puts up PowerPoints in class and does random attendance. 4 films with questions, and 2 exams
Dr. Francis became one of my favorite professors this semester! She made an 8AM class so exciting! We watched a few films based on the topics discussed in lecture accompanied with film questions (she drops lowest grade). Random in-class writing assignments she uses for attendance. Don't even bother buying the book, just come to class and take notes
You do NOT need the book! Attendance is important because she does random in class writing assignments. Lots of in class movies. Dry tone.
She is one of the best professors I've had at UNLV. She cares for her students in class and is always willing to help. There is only a mid-term and a final and both of them are online. Her lectures are always interesting and all assignments are easy. She has a good sense of humor and I definitely recommend her.
I loved taking this class with her. She may seem intimidating at first but is totally likable. Only one midterm and one final exam online which was super easy. Attendance is mandatory because there are random writing assignments. SOC 101 is a pretty interesting class. Do not buy the textbook!! You will pass if you show up and take notes!!
Dr. Francis is a genius when it comes to sociology. Her lectures are very interesting and give a good perspective on social issues. Make sure to hop on her class because all her classes usually get full pretty quickly.
Kerie Francis is BY FAR the best professor I have ever had. Her lectures are interesting and easy to follow. Her class is well organized/straight forward. She asks open ended questions so read before class! You watch documentaries every other week. She is very intimidating at first. Attendance is not mandatory, but you won't pass if you skip.
This class and teacher was easier than I thought it would be. 4 very short papers and 2 tests- Midterm and Final (no cumulative). She provided a study guide and study guide review a class session before the test. She states the textbook is mandatory but her lectures cover all the material on the exam.
Prof. Francis is a great professor! Her class is pretty easy but you have to show up to class because she does not post lectures online. There are two test, the midterm and final, all written responses and memorization from lecture notes. She also gives four writing assignments throughout the semester. You do not have to read but she prefers you do
Dr. Francis is one of a kind. She truly cares about her students and her subject. She radiates light inside and out. This class is participation heavy but I promise you'll get a lot out of this class if you allow yourself to. TAKE THIS CLASS! Only a midterm and a final exam, film questions every few weeks, and participation assignments.
She is seriously the best professor I've ever had. I wish I could take her again. She's EXTREMELY understanding and this class is an easy A. The only reason why I said textbook mandatory is because I didn't really attend class. If you attend class then no need to buy her textbook. She tells you whats on the exams.
Dr. Francis is an amazing professor that I would highly recommend for an entry level Sociology class. She breaks all of the lessons and concepts down to make it understandable. Hilarious, understanding, and very knowledgeable in her field. You will learn a lot in this class and I enjoyed her lectures and overall, attending the class.
She is a great professor and keeps her students entertained. However, the material itself is very boring and puts me straight to sleep. She really wants all her students to succeed. She does not give extra credit nor does she accept any late work. If you don't show up to class, you would miss any assignments that are being handed out.
Genuinely cares about her students. If you do whats expected (I.e. the reading assignments, which arent that much) youll do just fine. If you try and participate in class every once in a while youll be just fine. I wouldnt say its an easy A but its nothing too intense. She is definitely one of the best professors on campus!
There are 4 reflection papers about 1-2 pages long. Take notes on all her ppts as they are going to help a LOT on the exams. 2 Exams that are essay based and you need to answer 3 questions as detailed as possible. There are study guides. If you take all the notes during lecture, then the study guides are easy to complete.
Shes nice, but wants you to think and participate! Not a super hard class, but a lot of reading! Read the assignment she gives out (no textbook), write one to two paragraphs about it online, then prepare to talk about it in class. That's really all there is, except for the Tumblr project which you need to begin ahead of time to do it well.
Dr. Francis is one of the best professors I've had at UNLV so far. She really cares about her subject and class participation. It's an easy class, but make sure you read. Literally everything she goes over is in the textbook. She has a few pet peeves, but just be respectful and you'll get along great with her.
Prof Francis is everything a good prof. should be. Minimal quizzes helped me actually understand the material. She is humorous, often getting her class involved in discussion and in general cracking jokes and the material you learn is applied beyond the classroom. Textbook not required cause of powerpoints. Would love to take her again!
Dr. Francis was wonderful! She was funny and entertaining and managed to keep your attention on the lectures. She asked that you use the textbook but most of the material is covered in the slides. Most work we would do was watch films and turn in answer sheets. 10/10 would recommend taking her class!
Her personality is pretty intense but her dry humor is pretty funny. Doesn't post powerpoints online so you have to go to class for notes, no attendance. Reiterates numerous times that you MUST read to pass the exams, or else you WILL fail. Not a super hard class to follow, but I simply took on too much this semester and had to withdraw.
She is a great professor. Very fair, and. you can tell she is passionate about teaching and actually cares that you learn the material. I would try to attend class because if you take good notes, you will pass the class,
She's honestly one of the best professors I've had. She bases her lectures off the reading material but the reading material has a shortened summary to read so you don't have to read a lot in the class. Her lectures are fun and there are movies as well. Assignments are simple and there are only the midterm and final exams and they're both open note
Four 250-350 word peer-reviewed papers, a few exams (she provides you the questions beforehand), and 6 discussions. I took her M/W 10am Remote Class but attendance was optional. I liked this class, if you did all the assignments correctly it was a guaranteed A. One of my favorite classes of the semester, it was really relaxed.
This class could be boring, but she makes it interesting. Due to COVID, this class was online. She put her lectures online will narration that really helps. I honestly didn't even use the book. There are 4 essays due throughout (250-350) words, and a few discussion posts (no min) with 1 reply. Exams are essay based. Take her and you won't regret it
It wasn't that difficult to understand the topics of her class because the book she bases her content on is fairly straightforward. If anything, be wary of the vocab from the books because there's a lot and she tests a lot on that. The textbook and online quizzes are essentially your best friend. Other than that, her class is fairly easy to follow.
I really enjoyed my class with Dr. Francis. Very straightforward expectations and understandable assignments. Gives clear feedback. While my class was online and we never met in person, it was clear she cares about teaching and her students by the effort she puts back towards you.
Dr. Francis is great! (took her for 421) & she explains the criteria very well. The readings are not that bad & I definitely suggest for you to attend the lectures bc it's a add on to what you read the night before. What I like most about Dr. Francis is that she puts in effort to make sure her students pass. She's very honorable, take her! :)
Such an amazing professor who cares about her students and their understanding of the material. She's very passionate about sociology and wants to see her students succeed, but make sure you show up to the lectures. There were 4 small papers on the material, multiple discussion posts, and two written exams.
Great professor. Collegiate teacher and also one that you can tell cares and understands their students. Lectures every class but they were always entertaining, I would suggest going to all of them to get the most out of the material. Reading outside of class is not necessary unless you aren't grasping the content well. Hope to take her again!
Amazing professor! Attendance isn't mandatory, but that's the only way you can get the notes for class, so I'd recommend going. The lectures are very interesting and definitely not boring. Few discussions, 4 reading responses (like mini papers), and 2 exams that accurately represent the lectures. Overall, a very fun and easy class!
Dr. Francis is great. She provides good feedback, and conversations and is overall a great professor. I could have gotten an A, but didn't read/study as much. I suggest going to class if you don't want to read everything.I suggest taking any class that she teaches!
A couple of writing assignments, but you get to do a draft, peer review, then submit a final. Recommend reading the textbook to get an understanding of the information. Midterm and final are written, but she goes over the study guide to help. Study and be familiar with material and you'll be fine. Makes information relevant to modern society.
was better than some in-person classes i had. such a well organized course, and professional, smart and caring professor. applaud her for being able to make an online course feel like a real classroom. light and easy workload, assignments have a slightly heavier weight... don't miss them or ur grade will hurt
Take great notes and ask questions about material if you don't understand. Dr Francis is perhaps one of the best professors at UNLV
Attending her lectures will make your time understanding concepts easier, especially if you don't want to do the readings. Easy to digest explainations of loaded concepts. Values student participation. Graded on papers, exams, and discussion posts, all of which are easy if you know what you're talking about.
