Great teacher! Highly Recommend him for Law 122 especially if you don't undrstand much about law he will make it very easy to learn. By far the most FAIR prof at Ryerson and he is there to help you.
Law in the market place, Webb makes it easy to learn, book is big but lots of fluff. Read the key points and you're going to get a B or better! Great Teacher!
Webb is a pretty good professor. If he doesn't have an answer for you he'll do his best to get it. He tends to ramble sometimes. PowerPoint Slides highlight the important material from the book. Couple that with attending class and paying attention and you'll have no trouble getting a good grade.
Great Law prof. Highly recommended! Answers every question and explains the material the best he can. 5% participation/2 MC midterms/MC final.
What an awesome Prof. We need more like him. He genuinely cares for the students and wants them to do well. VERY WELL ORGANIZED. His classes are fun and enjoyable. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND HIM. He makes difficult concepts easier to understand through examples and discussions and class participation. A very rare Prof - he is humble and caring.
okay prof. just reads of pp, class not interesting. juts stay home and read the book unless you want 5% particpation which is good to have trust me. over all a very hard class, know the material and concepts READ THE BOOK and understand.. tests were fair but FINAL WAS HARDDD for ever1
Professor Webb is a very reasonable prof, and is very intelligent. Don't be afraid of the huge textbook for the course his exams are based on understanding and not fine detail
Really good prof. Highly recommended. Fair midterm tests but the final was a killer =(
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS WITH THIS PROF!!!
I adore him! Very professional and super hot! But I didn't get 5% participation mark...
has some strict class room rules. other than that he is a perfect prof. did not find the course hard at all, the material was not that boring, the cases were like mini stories to me. if you pay attention in class and take notes you will get an A. His tests are easy, straight forward and to the point. there are no surprises.
Exceptional prof! If you're not a Law major this is NOT an easy course BUT he makes it as simple as it can get. Great sense of humour and very professional. If you look at his notes, which are great and very clear you should be fine! I enjoyed his lectures. Great prof!
Has some very strict classroom rules and makes it VERY clear in the first class, other than that a very good prof that clearly explains what he wants on tests/final exam. ALOT of reading from his textbook but if you have an interest in law it's not too bad. Tests & Final are openbook & MC, true/false. Not too difficult if you know where to look!!!
Had him for both Law 122 and 525.Didn't like him for 122 but loved him for 525. He seems to be a different prof in that class. Makes it incredibly interesting and he is crystal clear on what to study for the exam. Pay attention and you will do great. BY FAR, one of the most knowledgeable and accomplished professors at Ryerson
Great prof - well organized, good speaker. You NEED to go to class and make notes on his lectures, his tests are based primarily off lecture material, so print the ppt!! If you do this, you will get 80+
This prof was average. Put on a warm front, but total opposite when you approach him.
ok prof, could be better.
Had him for Law 525 and 533. Really good prof. One of the bests for LAW. Definitely read the book if you expect to do well. Also attend every lecture because his tests are made up from lecture notes and ppt. PPT slides are extremely helpful. Not a fan of his mandatory participation but its an easy 5%.
Prof Webb is a very strict, but good professor. Lectures are clear, course material is challenging at times, and tests are fair. You MUST attend classes. The class didn't attend the last few weeks so he decided to put a significant amount of those week's material on our exam. Keep up and you'll do well.
pretty lame professor...repeats everything the textbook says, right down to the examples.
Really great prof. Love the fact that he uses Lady Gaga, Justin Bieber, and the Simpsons in his examples. Just wish he would get rid of that 5% participation mark, because people just don't want to ask questions in class.
Great proff for this course, he simplifies what the textbook talks about and makes you get the whole picture. Attendance is necessary because his lectures are extremely helpful and sometimes some info is not in the book. His exams are fair and based on lectures and book. Great proff!
Probably the best law professor at Rye-high hands down! If you wanna merk this course read the chapter THEN go to lecture = Ace! (:
He is a good prof, he speaks clearly and helps you understand, but despite all that his tests seem easy when ur writing it but once u get ur mark back ur shocked. i studied so hard for all 2 midterms and final, and i thought i aced every one of them but that was not the case, make sure u know what he wants in his answers hes extremely particular.
An excellent, intelligent prof. He clearly explains even the most difficult concepts. He is more than willing to make time to help you out. His tests are very fair. If you read the material, attend lectures, and participate you will get at least an A-.
You need to attend his classes because everything comes from his slides and hints in class. Best Law Professor @ Ryerson.
Amazing Law professor. If you're interested in learning a lot about law do take him. If you want an easy A, please take another law course so that seats are still available for those who truly want to learn.
Amazing professor, students who actually want to learn will love him, students who want an easy A will hate him. Very passionate and very professional. However I suggest you do ALL the readings and attend ALL the classes.
Great prof -:-)
Professor Webb is a great prof who gives you all the tools you need to do well in class. Attend all the lectures and read through the material. Midterm and Final were much easier than the assignments. He responds to emails very quickly and is always looking to help!
Great professor. Interesting course. Attend his lectures and listen - his tests should seem easy if you do. Wasn't a fan of the mandatory participation though. Otherwise, I enjoyed the class overall. :)
Webb made the course very interesting and the textbook is also pretty interesting in itself so it wasn't a struggle to read the material. BE CAREFUL when writing his midterm and final because he likes to throw in a multitude of trick questions, i.e. what appears to be an easy question is actually not. Take good notes during class and you'll be fine
Interesting course. To do well, you have to attend lectures and take notes. He does try to make class more fun and interesting. My only gripe is that the exams are tricky, and the 'textbook'. its simply a compilation of articles that are ALL available online for free, which he strings together and profits. The requirement to participate sucks too.
He is not easy, but if you work hard, go to class, know your text book and listen to every word that comes out of his mouth and write it down, you should do great. It's very important to absorb everything he says. I don't think he is the most helpful prof at Ryerson, as he is hard to talk to and expects students to understand, even if confused.
best prof I had at ryerson so far. Great lectures, great tutorials. Very humble and helpful guy.
Great Prof, make the course material very clear and interesting. It's not an easy course, but if you spend time going through the course material and attend every lecture, you will be fine. The first midterm is easy, the second midterm is hard, and the final is OK.
Good lectures, and gives great examples that will help with the exams. You need to attend lecture, take detailed notes and participate in the lecture. That active engagement in lectures really matters for your grade since he doesn't give marks only for attending lectures (annoying!)
Can we please get Dr. Webb back to teach LAW 533? He was an amazing instructor for LAW 525
One of the most intelligent human beings on earth to be precise! He is an amazing professor. He does make you work for your grade though. Assignments are tedious and long but he marks fair. My only advise is to go to class and take notes!
LAW533 is his baby, he developed the course and teaches it really well. Not the easiest prof by any means, but makes you work for your grade, very possible to get an A. He is very professional, and very knowledgeable. His subtle humor adds to the lecture, makes the course a little less scary.
One of the best law professors I've had at Ryerson. He is very knowledgeable, and he displays this in class. He treats his classes not as lectures, but rather discussions and engages the class this way. To do well, reading the casebook and participation is essential.
Great professor!
make sure to go to class and do good on the exams. TALK in class. beware of switching companies on assignments.
Very intelligent man. He holds his students up to a high standard and has very specific expectations. You will not pass this course if you do not attend every lecture & diligently study the material consistently. He will call you out for not understanding and you are forced to participate every class to get full marks. Very tricky exams, not a bird
Good Prof. Knows his material and is passionate. I just wish he would let you finish your statement before he jumps in and interrupts...
Very boring lecture, seems like a nice person. If you dont pay 100% attention the entire class plus reading every page he has in the cours pack you will find the tests extremely hard. Would not take again
This is my second course with him. He is not the worst professor I've had, but I likely will not take him again. Lectures are not mandatory to attend, but I recommend going as he provides A LOT of information. However, you do still need to read the course pack in order to do decent in this class. He is a tough grader, but he is fair.
AVOID. AVOID. I have gotten A's in every Law course I have taken at Ry, except in Webb's courses. The marking of tests/midterms/exams is a joke. You can get every aspect of a question right except for a single letter and it will count for 0. This isn't how education works. This isn't how "things are in the real world," it's completely ridiculous.
You definitely need to pay attention in class and participate to get your 5% and do well. He's very particular with his answers. Sometimes can be very degrading when he talks
Professor Webb may at first come off as condescending, but he is actually very approachable and caring. He explains things very thoroughly and concisely - he won't beat around the bush. However, you must pay attention in class and attend all lectures to understand the content.
This is my second course with professor Webb and I think he's a smart guy whom genuinely wants you to learn. However, his method of grading for class participation is terrible as sometimes many people want to participate and they keep asking questions (sometimes repeated) which wastes time and we only end up going though a couple slides.
Prof Webb does not trick students during midterms or the final exam. The key is to READ the questions CAREFULLY. If you focus on his powerpoints, read the relevant textbook material and pay attention to what he says in the lectures, you are guaranteed a good grade. That 5% participation matters; can be the difference between an A- & B.
Great prof. He's very intelligent and very kind/understanding to students. Only issue is: participation marks drive students to ask the dumbest questions which puts the entire class behind schedule for weeks... Other than that, he's a solid choice. Just participate MEANINGFULLY and do your readings! Webb wants his students to succeed
Not a good prof in my opinion, seems like he goes out of his way to make the class more difficult, will literally interrupt students to attack anything they say in class if he doesn't agree with it, powerpoints are not particularly informative, he's very knowledgeable but doesn't realize that that's not enough to be a well-rounded, good prof
Kernaghan is a good prof. One thing you need to know, write down EVERY SINGLE THING that comes out of his mouth (Im not kidding). Even if hes making a joke, WRITE IT DOWN. It will be on the midterm/exam. Everything he says in class you will be tested on. You have to participate and read the book! He also loves to put trick questions on the exams
He might seem intimidating at first b/c of his teaching style but he is one of the best profs and he really knows what he is talking about. You can tell he cares about his students and he enjoys teaching the material. You really need to show up to class because a lot of the information you won't find in the book or on the slides.
Dr. Webb is hands down the best Prof you will have at Ryerson. Had him for Law 525 & 533. Neither course was easy, but if you attend class, take notes on EVERYTHING he says, participate, and read the course book you will do well. He does not trick students, and genuinely wants you to learn and succeed
Don't take his class if you seriously have the option from any other professor. He has no favourites but he does like to pick on people with uncomfortable remarks because he thinks its evidently funny and will disrupt the entire class to do so.
His class might be intimidating but it is very straightforward and the exams are not difficult. You need to read the chapter every week in order to do well but they are not difficult reads and he goes through it well in class to make sure every student understands.
Professor Webb is one of the best professors in the Law department. He leads engaging discussions and truly makes the lectures interesting. I looked forward to his class every week and use the topics I learned in other classes. He is extremely knowledgeable and passionate about CSR. As well, he cares about his students' success. Great professor.
The way he marks his tests are terrible. You have to answer everything correctly in a question or it is marked wrong. He probably does that for an easy way out but a lot of people would be doing better if he actually gave us points for what parts are right instead of completely marking the question wrong. He shouldnt mark students participation.
good prof, but it was a hard course. you need to say word for word what he does.
This is not an easy class and you must pay attention and read the textbook for sure! He likes his answers for tests to be VERY specific, so tests are HARD. Interesting course but it is not easy at all. He likes well prepared answers and will make you feel incompetent if you're not prepared. Don't bother showing up late either!
Heres the thing, Professor Webb is incredibly knowledgable in his craft (law) and is good at teaching, but he REALLY makes you work for a good grade. DO YOUR READINGS AND GO TO CLASS OR ELSE IT WILL NOT END WELL. Review alot, because his tests are quite heavy, and he has ALOT OF TRICK QUESTIONS, so read the questions carefully. PUT IN THE WORK!!
Honestly I cannot stress this enough - GO TO CLASS. If you skip one class you will not be able to catch up on your own as the textbook is mostly statutes and cases - there's no content that will explain what you missed. Course is an easy A if you simply go to class and write down verbatim what he says. Test questions are exactly what he teaches !
I remember looking at this prof's ratings in September thinking "it can't be THAT bad, I'm sure I'll do great!"...I was wrong. If you do take this course, my words of advice for success is to write down literally EVERYTHING that this prof says in lecture, do the readings, and think of every possible trick question that you can think of.
Great professor and knows his material. However, you need to attend class and do the readings to do well in the course.
Relies heavily on small things said in class. Textbook is needed in order to do well. Marks very harsh. Has very difficult questions on exams where there are multiple answers that need to be written for one question and if you miss one part you receive no marks for that section.
Professor Webb is incredibly knowledgable. That said, he does come off condescending and rude to his students at times and seems to expect everyone to immediately understand difficult concepts. He is always available to his students and will even call you to discuss exams/answer questions which is great, but the content of the class is dry.
I found this class really hard. The midterm and exam had very specific questions and required very specific answers. There were no part marks given for short answers, which made it so much harder to be successful in this class. However, the professor is very knowledge and is always available for help outside of class.
Honestly Professor Webb is a great professor and really takes time to assist his students. In order to do well in the class you have to read the textbook with the readings assigned each week, go to every single lecture and make sure you write down every single thing said, review the notes before exams and youre sure to get a good mark!
Professor Webb is such an amazing prof at Ryerson and he's always there to help. The readings are heavy (didn't even do them) but he summarizes them during the lecture and reiterates important points, that's why it's so important to attend class. The assignment is a lot of work but his instructions are very clear and he's an easy grader.
Professor Webb genuinely wants his students to succeed. During COVID he pre-recorded his lectures discussing the material in the book and made it very easy to understand. Listen to his recordings and take notes because he will test on things discussed. Overall, Professor Webb made this class very enjoyable.
AVIOD AT ALL COSTS!! It is near impossible to do well in his class as he marks incredibly tough on all tests. Gives no part marks no matter what and most questions have 4 parts to them and you must get all 4 perfect in order to get just 1 mark! Extremely unfair marker and most who take this class will agree to stay away!
very hard class, but so important to know. everything I've learned in that class has been very useful for everyday life, and provides new perspectives on the legality of things. I would suggest only taking if you have to, or at least not in your first year like I did. Very hard material and super dense legislation required to know. Hard marker too.
Interesting course. Great prof, very knowledgeable and helpful! Most of the stuff he will test you is emphasized in the lecture videos and in-class discussions, but reading the textbook is important as well.
The best law professor in all of ryerson. Attend class, read the textbook (textbook isn't expensive and he creates it himself), and participate for an easy A. Explains concepts so well and knows exactly what he is doing. would take again 100%
Absolute c$nt. Held me back from an A+ because of a mandatory participation grade in a massive class. Clearly one of those people that gets off on that type of thing - what a sad life.
Intelligent person, fair class and great lecturer
Very difficult tests and a very tough grader.
If you're planning on reading the textbook for this class, buy a magnifying glass because the whole thing is copy pasted articles from the net compressed to fit the pages Lectures are outstandingly boring there are two midterms, second one tests you on the all the course material to date. Redundant and unnecessary.
Although he's very involved in this industry, his lectures could not be drier. He walks around staring at the ground the whole lecture, not warranting class participation. He requires an expensive textbook complied by himself of articles from 15 years ago that includes such uninteresting perspectives of CSR and the law and his TA grades everything.
I will be very honest, I did not read this textbook for this course but I attended every lecture. That's the key to doing well. The textbook for this course was created by him and it's comprised of articles all put together into separate chapters. Lectures are dry but he goes over all articles in detail so make really good notes from his lectures.
The key to success is going to his lectures. WRITE DOWN WHAT HE SAYS!!! I can not stress that enough. Lectures are not mandatory but are key to passing this class. I did not prep or studying I just went to lectures and received an 80 and 90 on both midterms. The final exam was hard but if you do good on the midterms you will easily pass this class.
I personally did not read the textbook because I found that the lectures contained everything that you needed to be successful. Did not need to study much for this class as the exams were all open-book so like others have said if you write down everything that he says you should be fine
Had this guy for an MBA at TMU, he is terrible. Mandatory course so you have no choice but to take him. Forewarning he is brutal to talk to and flexible is not in his vocabulary. Online class and made us go to TRSM on the weekends for exams. Absolute joke, Goodluck to anyone having to deal with this clown!
Had him for a mandatory class that included 8hr days on Friday and Saturday, once a month. Ran a final on Saturday at 9am. 90% of the grade (3 30% exams/projects) were due in the last 3 weeks of class - leaving no knowledge of where you stand before your final. Brutal class. Avoid if possible.
Amazing prof! If you attend the classes and listen to his lectures, you will learn everything fundamentally. I got 95% on both midterms and now waiting for my final grade. He teaches in a way that goes through your brain and will stick with you forever.
Webb is not a bad prof. He teaches his courses well and reading the textbook is important. But he talks in a very soft voice, so if you wanna hear what he says, sit up front. He goes over exams way too quickly. He also waits till the last minute to release marks...LITERALLY! He's a real legal minded prof but not in the good way. AVOID THIS COURSE!
533 is much harder than 525 & requires much more care & work. His tests are fs challenging but he marks em rly easy so everyone ended up with a decent grade. Readings are SO long & hard to decipher so 100% go to class cuz he goes thru em. 533 lectures are dull compared to 525 but doable. Overall good group-2 to take if u don't want group work
Very easy course. Finished with a 99. As long as you go to class & do minor prepping before each, you'll do well. I barely touched the book. His lectures are interactive & informative, & the course is acc useful in everyday life. His tests are also very fair and easy. He's also super kind & caring. Overall, would recommend both him and the course!!
Textbook is mandatory but A LOT of reading involved. Attendance is taken but it does not affect your grade. Very kind prof, he's soft spoken so hard to hear unless sitting up close. I do not go to class but I heavily read the textbook and annotate, even so I cannot obtain a good mark. You NEED to take very good IN class notes. DO NOT SKIP HIS CLASS
He is one of the best profs at TMU. He does not talk unnecessarily and is very helpful. We had to buy a textbook that was for like 50 dollars.TAKE THE TEXTBOOK, because his lectures are a part of him going through the textbook .Overall AN AWESOME TEACHER, he is kind, cares about you and you will pass as long as you attend his lectures.
Show up for class, listen, and read the textbook; you will do well. Most stuff he talks about is on the test and he is somewhat precise with what he is looking for. He throws some trick questions in tests but its pretty straightforward
Tests were all very fair. You'll have to show up to class, reading the textbook isn't enough. You don't need to read all the dense legislation/case law in the textbook, only what he focuses on in class and skim through the rest. Can be a bit sassy but nice prof overall.
Kernaghan's LAW525 class is informative and engaging. Attending lectures is key - take detailed notes as his teachings really stick. While tests can be challenging, using resources like Unstuck study alongside the textbook can make a big difference. Overall, a worthwhile course if you put in the effort.
I've had him for three classes and all three classes have been great! He is passionate and an expert on the topics, he ensures everyone understands and remembers the topics by repeating the topics. You have to go to the lectures to make sure you understand the material and also study the textbooks carefully. He is a fair and reasonable marker.
Pay close attention on how he explains definitions/court decisions. You for sure need the textbook as his slides are not too detailed. Did well in the first test, and he is very precise on language. Make in class notes as if youre transcribing. it's a full 3 hr lecture so it can get dreading, but overall i recommend this course for group 1
you have to attend his class if you want to understand the material. his exam are fair, but he has tricky questions so beware of that. i sat in the back of the class the whole sem and didn't find it hard to hear him. fast marker, but he takes so long to go through the slides
You learn exciting things in class. Attendance is taken, but it does not contribute to a grade. He is a very funny professor, tests have trick questions, just read carefully!! BUY THE textbook, it has all the important codes and information needed for the test. Pay close attention in class if I can get an A+ so can you!!!
