Incredibly rude.
Works hard to make learning fun!
best teacher i've ever had.
Not Ugh. Good teaching. Has changed drastically for the better! Thanks KA!
Best professor of my undergrad! made learning and lectures enjoyable. Thanks KA!
Awesome prof. Works really hard to make learning fun and her class is worth going to
awesome prof
3 weeks in and she is soooooo cool!!1
awsome prof, but suggestible to read the notes, attend her class and pray she would not give a cross word for test
Hogan's descriptive, encourages questions, and is pretty clear in terms of what she's looking for regarding midterms. She has a bit of a superiority complex but is willing to help you out if you ask. She actively attempts to learn names and recognizes faces. Go to her class, ask questions and study. Not a hard course if you prepare. Go for candy!
She is amazing, my favourite prof so far. Her teaching is so refreshing! She encourages participation (by giving out candy), her midterms are fair and she is very open to helping students. A little intimidating at first, but you soon get to learn about her experience as a nurse and researcher. She really know her stuff! Highly recommended!!
The prof is very fair. Her assignments/midterm reflected what was taught. No trick questions. She is nice and tried to engage people in discussion by giving out candy. One thing I don't like is that if she asks a question and no one knows the answer, she doesn't address it and just moves on!
There is no one more condensing than Hogan; very difficult to talk to. Found her lectures extremely painful to sit through as she expects students to participate at all times, and when we don't she skips over the information she was asking us about as some sort of punishment. Gives us incomplete slides, doesn't even know what's in the textbook..
EXTREMELY condescending. States she is fair but is incredibly rude. I would avoid.
Two words...God complex. This is probably the worst professor I have ever had. Every time the class doesn't understand a concept, she skips it and threatens to put it on the test. One girl was not done writing the assignment question and asked to go back a slide and Hogan just said "No" and kept going. Very condescending and moody.
Very rude; says she's fair & sends out emails that she will be deleting all emails regarding last midterm. Thinks she's a god. Approach her with a question she'll treat you like garbage. Said once in class that poor people do not appreciate education and how people from the Bahamas are crazy and lack of laws.. Does not even know what's in the book
She doesn't use the textbook, at all. If you use the textbook to study, you will legitimately get a worse mark than if you study her slides. Unclear on what will be on midterms, but final exam was very easy. Wouldn't recommend.
She tells you what is going to be tested and is clear with her expectation. It is not a hard class, but if you want to know what is on the quizzes, go to class. She's amazing!
She is really awesome and committed to making the class as great a resource as possible for all the future nursing students she teaches. You ABSOLUTELY want her for Determinants of Health. All other profs were unspecialized and boring. She was funny, sweet and taught lasting information. Thank you KA!
Never skip a class, she puts hints in her slides for quizzesmidterms! She doesn't put up with any nonsense, be mature and pay attention to her lecture. She will call you out on talking during lectures. One girl rolled her eyes at her and Kerry-Ann put her in her place. HSS1101 is a breeze to ace the course if you show up and do the readings.
Take Det of Health with her if you can, do yourself a huge favour! An easy AA+ for sure, she gives helpful hints on her slides if you go to lectures, sends out mini study guides for the quizzes etc. Likes to interacts with students and have class discussions, besides she is an RN herself and tells many relevant "real life" stories.
My experience with her was awful. I found her lectures to be a incredible waste of my time. She did include occasional hints in lectures about the content of the midterms however every lecture was plagued by useless time consuming and irrelevant YouTube videos. I found her to be rude and inconsiderate.
Misunderstood. She likes her students and is very passionate about what she teaches, but she makes things way too complicated, and you need to really tolerate her all through the semester. Not the best option for a profclass.
Dr Hogan is a great professor. She has clear expectations, she tells you exactly what to study for and that is what is on her tests. The course is not a bird course, but go to class, participate (the more the class participates the more hints she gives), do your readings and you will do well.
She isn't the nicest. Attend her lectures, the textbook is useless. The midterms don't relate too much to the slides, in depth. It's mainly 80% easy questions and 20% are meant to trick you to lower the class average. Read her questions carefully as there are often tricks in them. Will help you, but you need to email her and see her outside of clas
Is the least approchable teacher with a condescending and snobby attitude! Worst teaching abilities. she talks and spends a great amount of time speaking about herself, youtube videos, and her personal life with no relation to the course. Then rushes through slides. AVOID! and most importantly very rude
Given it was her first time teaching this stats class she did a pretty good job. The material is hard no matter who is teaching it but she does a decent job of breaking it down. Read the chapters for examples and more detailed explanations. Most of the time her slides are cut down and she gives lots of details and examples in class.
It's a pretty basic course if you pay attention and read the textbook, but don't expect to learn anything from her. She is confusing, and super patronizing to students. And has a SERIOUS issue with cell phones. She tries to convince you every class how great everyone thinks she is, which she isn't. I taught myself.
Good lecturer, tries to make it bearable for a 7pm-10pm. I usually would skip a night class, but she made it worth it to go imo. Slides are clear. She offers exam hints during class. She claimed the assignment was "similar to Master's", and we had no guidance from her. Exam grades were in the 80s, project grades were around 55.
I'm gunna keep this review as objective as possible. Although she can be condescending, KerryAnn cares about her students. The midterm and labs were easy, but the final was ridiculously, disproportionally hard. I studied the same as I did for the midterm, went into the final with 95% and I'm pretty sure I left with an 8. Take another prof.
I've seen condescending mentioned before but I gotta repeat it! While the 20 mark for the lab are almost grantee, the midterm out of 30 is pretty decent. For the final I guess she decided we want see her again and ask her questions about how a certain question is related to anything in the course, she decided to play free! (avoid her)
-No syllabus for the first class, but expected us to have readings complete -Midterm grades were marked incorrectly due to scantron mistakes -Labs were posted too late to prepare for, and were on material we had not learned yet (But overall, an easy 20%) -Added questions to the final exam that she had not taught/stated wouldn't be testable
The textbook was a better resource than KA and that's saying a lot. She was not able to effectively convey the course material, nor was she able to answer questions posed by the class. Not to mention she has a ridiculous God complex and is a condescending passive agressive individual in general. AVOID. The good side is she gives many hints to exams
The key to success in her class is to teach yourself the course via textbook. She's a nice enough prof and definitely cares about her students. She holds comprehensive review sessions before exams which are helpful. She's great to students she likes, so get on get good side.
I personally found her condescending and aggressive. When asking for clarification, I received no clear answers. She also talks about how awesome she thinks she is a lot. Don't mention if you want to be a doctor, she doesn't respect that decision.
Kerry-Anne seems nice at first, but BEWARE. She is very condescending and loves to talk about herself and her PhD. The paper is brutally graded - my partner and I got a 65 and that was a high grade (average was 55) - and she gives zero guidance regarding what she wants for it. However, exams are easy! Study and you can get a good grade.
She spends most of the class talking about herself and then rushes through slides at the end. Not approachable at all and is very rude when you try to ask her a question. Her exam questions are written poorly.
Great prof! I agree she likes to talk about herself, but who wouldn't, she's got great stories! I regret buying the textbook, I maybe opened it once. The assignment wasn't that bad, she just didn't give any instructions on it. Did it the night before and got an 80, whereas some people did it weeks in advance and got a 60! Her midterms are so easy!
If you can avoid her, do so. She is the most condescending prof I have ever encountered. Not pleasant to talk to, and is just rambles on about herself and her life for most of the lectures. She also grades really harshly for someone who provides zero guidance. AVOID.
Attendance doesn't count for anything, but she gives so many answers in her powerpoints to exams but doesn't post the same ones on BB! She does ramble, but was very helpful for tricky content. No textbook, just online readings or PDF. Beware group projects!
I really wanted to like her, exams were fair, plenty of time for assignments and tonnes of examples in class on key concepts -- only drawback is that she's intimidating and not very approachable when it comes to asking questions.
KA was the least helpful/worst prof I've ever had in my 4yrs. She didn't respond to emails, had no compassion for her students if they expressed they were struggling, and thought her comms class were "just arts students who party" (her exact words). She refused to clarify slides or concepts. If you have to take this class, DO NOT take it with her.
Worst professor I've ever had. Usually If I don't like a prof I understand that his/her teaching style does not match my learning style. But this prof is by far the worst at the university. She's rude, is no help, does not answer emails, makes fun of her students, and singles people out who question her. Do not take her class.
Her assignments and midterms are fair, and her lectures are stimulating even when discussing difficult or dull subject matter. If you participate she'll give you lot's of extra information and answers, and she gets to know a lot of her students well.
Really engaging speaker. Midterms were a joke, so easy. Project was kind of unguided, but got a great grade with minimal effort. Easiest A I ever got in HSS. Just make sure to go to class, she gives loads of hints on exam material.
easy to pass if you come to class every time. She is disorganized, but she makes it easy to get good mark.
midterm was alright, final was ridiculous, no words to describe it. No matter how much you study for it, you will not do well. questions poorly phrased, many times had nothing to do with what we learned and focused on obscure details. Prof was nice to the class, had stories but was very scary and I would not approach. Makes students feel stupid.
Not the worst prof I've ever had but not the greatest either. She is undoubtedly a caring and knowledgeable lady (with some interesting and often funny stories/anecdotes). However, she tends to be condescending and unapproachable as well. Her midterm was fair, but the final was tricky and contained concepts that were not widely covered in class.
Course only has 1 midterm, a final, and a lab component. The midterm was fair, the lab portion is a good grade booster, but the final was a mind game. Questions are poorly worded, and exam questions have mistakes. Hogan is a pretty poor prof, and makes it clear she doesn't want to be there. Condescending, rude, and belittles students. Study hard.
She is super obsessed with herself and although she is a good lecturer, she likes to make a class more difficult than it really is. Her exams and midterms are fair and not so bad. But she tells you what she expects for a paper and you do it, then she screws you over and grades you badly. Prof Hogan if you're reading this, why you do dis to me?
Her exam questions were so subjective. "T/F, nursing today is a women's profession, T/F: a pandemic could happen today" and double negatives all over the MCQs. She also interrupted our midterm to tell a story about her daughter sneezing. Hard to reach by email. I recommend avoiding her.
Says you'll need the textbook but it really isn't necessary (she's a co-author which is why she loves the book). Mostly reads off the slides, so don't worry too much if you miss a lecture. Exams are pretty easy but she does have questions about random small facts. LOVES to talk about her daughter as if she's the most amazing nurse ever.
The two midterms were very straight forward however the final had a lot of content which was not covered in class and very subjective. I really enjoyed the class however I felt that the final really did not represent the content taught. Mostly reads off the slides and hard to get a hold of outside of the classroom.
She is a decent lecturer but and the material was really easy, however her questions on midterms and final were very subjective. Nice lady but final was littered with content not covered in class. Not very fair in that regard.
Best Instructor To Class Health, she was horrible, very rude, condescending, pompous. Glad its over. Also, she makes a lot of jokes that are sad. If you don't have to take this course then don't, she doesn't care about her students. Sad.
She's a really disorganized lecturer and most of the time the entire class was confused. She only kept us for around 40 minutes each week for a class that was supposed to be 2.5 hours. Rude to students and very condescending. She did make the class easier than other profs but you basically have to teach everything to yourself.
gives great lectures. she does read off her slides but then goes onto elaborate and give very interesting examples to further your understanding (all examples could be on exams so good to go to class). I would say the textbook isn't mandatory but I definitely would've done better had I used it. occasionally plays funny videos at the end of lectures
Love her! My favourite prof, she's super chill and funny! Makes going to class enjoyable. She tells you what she's putting on the midterms. Lectures are always shorter than what is scheduled (which I don't mind). You do need to show up to class though, she gives out her slides but a less detailed version and you'll miss out on good explanations
makes lectures really interesting, gives hints for what's gonna be on exams! go to class because she gives good examples of situations that happen as a nurse and help you remember concepts better. no textbook and she plays funny videos in class!! love her
Hogan was amazing! She really cares for her students and LOVES the nurses. Her slides in lectures are informative and she gives hints as to whats going to be on midterms/finals so, as long as you go to class it should be an easy A. I would definitely take one of her classes again, really great prof:)
Kerry-Anne made it worth it to wake up at 5:30 for my 8am. As a nurse herself, she is incredibly inspiring and you can tell that she loves her job. Wasn't a difficult class, as long as you show up and listen because she gives great midterm/exam hints, although some test questions are hard because they seem like they could be several answers.
She was my best prof this semester, she wants you to do well and gives good exam hints, cares about her students, and gives good examples especially for nursing students.
I absolutely loved her class. She's so passionate about what she teaches, so her lectures were very interesting. She really cares about her students and enjoys sharing nursing stories and advice. Midterms and exams were very fair and easy, sometimes she will give some questions that are on the exams. Overall an easy class!
Great class, lectures were never the full 3 hours which is nice and her midterms/exams were pretty fair
Exams rarely test you on what is taught in class or in textbook (doesn't cover material you are tested on)
Horrible! Never take stats! You basically do not learn anything in class and it is all over the place. Midterm was ok but the final was so bad. Did not expose us to the types of questions, it was just horrible and long. Do not take this will ruin your GPA.
If you're lazy you won't like her- she'll call you out. But, I didn't do any of the readings and studied very little and still got an A- because her lectures are so clear you could repeat them in your sleep. SHOW UP -she will set you up for success. No surprises on the exams and the labs are easy, make sure to take notes on how to do things on SPSS
Overall, not a bad prof as she makes her requirements incredibly clear. However, she spends a lot of time defending her reputation to the class and when she's upset it shows in her quality of teaching. Has the capacity to be a great prof, she gives practice midterms and takes them up but she needs to regulate her emotions.
Hogan is amazing. As a nurse herself, she has a lot of stories to share and is very knowledgeable of the course content. You have to show up to her lectures because she doesn't upload all of her slides. She also gives exam hints in class. Easy A class if you attend class and study the slides. No textbook. She also plays JFL-gags every class.
Kerry-Anne is extremely unprofessional, disorganized, and confused by basic principles, "wait, do I have that right?" (KAH, 2019) She will manipulate stats to explain why she has a terrible rate-my-prof score -- this was explained in her first lecture. Way to admit you're terrible. "Oh, it's all the outliers." (KAH, 2019) Avoid if possible.
Very rude to students, and does not like to help you learn. 10/10 DO NOT recommend. Very condescending. Basically teaching yourself the content.
In my experience, this professor is rude and unprofessional. I had a lot of respect for her at first but she has quickly dropped to one of my least favorite professors I've ever had. Besides personal reasons... test questions are subjective, and she doesn't post the lecture till 24h before the quiz is due, so clear your schedule to cram study
KA doesn't really teach the material for this course in an efficient manner, and her expectations do not match when you compare what we are taught and what our exam questions / project requirements are. Super unclear so be ready to just pass on a wing and a prayer.
Med/Surg. She is never really prepares for lectures. It seems as though she just comes and says what comes to mind at that moment Her lack of organization made this class unbearable :( Slides were also really unorganized and not engaging at all.
I wish I had the chance to take one of her classes in person - I would love to know how her online school persona translates to real life. She isn't a good prof. Clearly doesn't care about the class or the students, and posts years-old slides with irrelevant and confusing information. Cares more about her nursing job and her personal life.
By far the worst prof I've ever had at uOttawa. Very inconsiderate towards students and inconsistent with expectations. Puts her 'regular nursing job' above her teaching position.
Kerry-Anne makes learning online so difficult when she fails to cover important lecture content yet still includes it on the tests, meaning we need to learn it ourselves. Most of the time this happens because she goes off on a tangent talking about her personal nursing career for 90% of the slide. Quite rude and condescending in person and online.
I'll keep this short n simple. She seems like a pretty nice lady but she's not a great prof. This class is gonna be a grind with her since she kinda overcomplicates material and talks about her nursing career half the time. COURSE SPLIT: 2 sets of quizzes (15 each) Midterm + Final (15 each) 2 Papers (15 each) Peer review & a certificate (5 each)
Unprofessional, rude and condescending. She puts her other jobs above her teaching job. She is never prepared for teaching and she will leave you in the dark when it comes to expectations. She ignores emails if she wants to. She barely communicated with students and she taught lessons in her Live Q and A that was supposed to be for questions only.
Her exams do not match what she teaches. The midterm and final was all over the place since students did not know what to expect. She does not really tell you if there will be questions from the textbook or the slides which makes it hard to study since the textbook contradicts her sides a lot of the times. Overall not the best professor.
She implied in her syllabus that she will post recordings which she never did and when I asked her about the recordings, she criticized me for her own mistake. This class was unbearable and quite difficult to follow. She also posted labs without any announcement so students were unaware there was a lab to do on bright space.
It amazes me how ignorant this professor is from not answering emails to ignoring questions asked in class. I do not know what she is like In person, but she made learning online very difficult and stressful. It is clear she does not care about her students at all. She also did not follow her own syllabus AT ALL which is very inconvenient.
Not sure if it was because the class was online but I definitely did not enjoy it. Labs were super easy but her midterm and exam had questions that were not covered in the class. She does not teach the material well and purely reads off the powerpoint.
Dr. Hogan takes weeks to respond to emails, months to return grades, her essay marking is unfairly tough, and marks are often docked for no reason. It's not a hard class, but the headache from this professor was way too much. On top of all this, she is disrespectful and rude to her students.
She does not care about her students, she either takes weeks to respond to your emails or does not respond at all. She is an unfair grader who takes marks off for no apparent reason. Her lectures lack direction as she talks about her personal life more than the course content at times. Avoid this prof if you can.
Professor Hogan is one of the worst profs I have encountered! She does does not communicate with her students, very unorganized, grades unfairly and is extremely unclear about tests and assignments. She simply does not care about her students at all, and puts her other job above this one. Avoid her at all costs!!
A literal nightmare. She does not know how to communicate with her students, and when she does it's often condescending and patronizing. Talks way more about her own experience than actual course content. Petty as hell. Do your best to avoid her.
This prof was so bad. Would not give clear instructions for discussion posts even when we asked. Didn't grade discussion posts for months so we had no idea if we were doing them right. Her lectures were just personal stories, not helpful. Had to read the entire textbook. Exam had so many spelling mistakes & mostly textbook based questions.
in my opinion not emotionally stable enough to be teaching. she clearly can't handle another job outside of being an RN. takes months to mark simple discussion post, unorganized, never responds to emails, is rude to students. lack of communication - changed exam time limit the day of. needs some time away from teaching or maybe professional help
She doesn't reply to any emails. Does not communicate with students efficiently and accurately. Grading criteria is messy and not accurate. She says one thing in class and then grades papers by doing something completely different. AVOID AVOID AVOID AT ALL COSTS. YOU BASICALLY HAVE TO TEACH THE COURSE TO YOURSELF. Save yourself and don't take her.
Do not take her classes.
At 4am the day of our exam she shortened the time limit (violating academic regulations) and did not respond to a single email seeking clarification or an explanation. This made for an extremely stressful lead up to the exam (full of grammar mistakes, weird online layout). Overall rude, disrespectful, unprofessional - would not recommend.
DO NOT take her classes. Worst prof I have ever encountered. Told us one thing about the final during the sem, but made it completely different than what she told us the day BEFORE the final. She sucks at communication, and won't email back until weeks later. Violated university rules by not giving us enough time during the final. Just don't do it.
The sad thing about this is that the course entails really interesting content concerning social roles in health care but instead it was taught by a women who made light of blm and talked to minority students in condescending ways. Assignments not clear, exam full of errors and missing answers, promises one thing does the exact opposite. AVOID!!!
She gives very vague explanations of assignments and assessments but then grades it very toughly. It's annoying when professors are vague about their expectations, but it's worse when they are vague and then grade on very specific things and expect you to read their mind. Says that she's a fair prof, but this is not true. Avoid her at all costs.
She's all over the place lacks communication skills and is a boring lecturer. But her class is DEAD EASY she asks the most basic questions on her exam and is such an easy marker for the paper. She definitely cares that students do well.
PLEASE AVOID at all costs. Had her 3 semesters in a row (unwillingly) and is the worst prof ever. Easy class, but she is all over the place and will give you contradicting and extremely vague instructions. Also makes a lot of subtle racist remarks so beware. Don't know how she's still a prof as she's gotten many complaints. uOttawa do better.
OK... idk why a lot of students dislike her, i mean yes she says things that can be misinterpreted or taken the wrong way, but as a prof she's actually not bad. Her tests are really fair and mostly common sense, she doesn't ask specific questions. For papers, she offers a lot of help on her live zoom sessions, and she's really flexible w/ due dates
Depending on class she can be easy, avoid if possible. She is all over the place. Posts lectures with simple voice overs once a week, tests minimal textbook content so midterms are a guessing game even if you study the material. Instructions for projects are vague and you spend more time figuring out what she is asking than doing the project.
Long winded and boring explanations on slides with a lot of 6 min tangents not relevant to the course on all asynchronous slides. Very disorganized and boring. Ive also had friends in her other classes and she doesnt post submission links or groups on time and doesnt respond to emails. AVOID!!!
This prof is the most disorganized one I've had. She isn't clear about due dates, doesn't follow deadlines, takes months to hand back assignments, and can be rude answering questions. She told us 30 mins before the midterm that we could use zoom instead of respondus. It's hard to know what she expects of you as she posts rubrics late. Easy A though
Gives the submission links for assignments after they are due on multiple occasions. Her lectures are very basic voice recordings over the slides, where she basically just reads the slide material. One of the previous classes I had her in, her exam was riddled with spelling and grammatical errors. STAY AWAY
she is extremely disorganized and very unclear regarding her intentions. Never follows the syllabus and is always late posting information and lectures. Questions on her exams make zero sense. AVOID
Her slides/material taught is simple but is not reflective of midterms and exams, which makes her intentions very unclear. Communication with students is extremely poor as she rarely responds to emails. Don't expect things to be finalized until the day of the exam.
If there was a trophy for the worst professor of the year/existence it would be this one. Replies late, your better off teaching yourself. Secondly, we had a group project to do, and the instructions were so unclear it took us longer to understand what she wanted rather than doing the work itself. AVOID AT ALL COST, SAVE YOURSELVES!!!!!!
Prof Hogan is very flexible and her exams clearly reflect what is posted in her lectures. Attendance is not mandatory but she gives hints at what to expect in her exams. Extra credit is given as an option for a grade boost so take advantage of that. Group projects can be done individually and is a way to boost your mark.
This was a summer course and it really wasn't that bad. I actually enjoyed the content and the "group project" we were assigned (which you could also do individually) was pretty interesting. I'll admit her lectures aren't super content-heavy and her exams can be a little vague, but most of the course is "common sense" once you learn the basics.
Really unorganized prof, u should've seen the discord chat. Posts the lectures 20 minutes before class expecting us to have listened to everything. Doesn't reply to our questions and gets made when we ask stuff about her vague instructions. Takes forever to do her labs simply because you just would'nt know what it was she was asking
Gave no practice questions; gave very little and vague instructions for labs; gave almost no information ahead of exams; disorganized; could not explain any course-related concept
Labs were so unorganized she really doesn't know what's going on but the midterm was pretty straightforward. Make sure to learn how to do the math on your own time cause she won't go through examples in class. Focus on slides, I haven't touched the textbook once tbh.
Most unorganized professor I have ever had. Her labs are incredibly vague, with little to no guidance on what is expected. Her explanations of the material are ambiguous and she often can't explain the material in an understandable manner. Her unorganized and chaotic nature makes this class one of the hardest to get through. Avoid.
Love/hate opinion on her. If you're a nursing student too, HSS2381 is low priority so kinda nice that she's disorganized bcuz she dropped all lab due dates, gave us all the lab printouts and asked us to just get them done before the lab exam. Gives minimal info on what ur supposed to do/know so that sucked, moved midterm online and it was fair.
This professor is so disorganized. Does not convey the information well, her slides are all over the place. She dropped the due date for labs and moved both the midterm and lab exam online. The labs are easy and quickly finished. The midterm was straightforward.
Worst professor I have ever had. Very disorganized and hard to understand with her explanations. Labs were not understandable to the point where she had to provide lab printouts because of all the complaints. She often does not clearly answer questions or will avoid them. When asked about labs she was extremely rude and yelled at students.
SUPER rude to students and always seemed unprepared/unprofessional. Her exams were completely "out there", worded horribly, not indicative of class material, and genuinely did not make any sense. Students received ZERO meaningful feedback on labs as to what to improve on/what was incorrect. Super defensive when students ask for clarification.
Such a horrible prof. Rude, literally singled people out in class and yelled at people. Class material was random and based on her whims, and tests were not even based on the class material. Doesn't record/post ANYTHING and you're basically stuck trying to catch what she says and guess how best to study. DO NOT TAKE if you can avoid.
Can't teach. Doesn't know what's going on in her class and does not care. Labs were a mess. 80% of her long, dragging classes and voiceover slides are explaining comics and stuff that aren't relevant to the course/out of scope. Gets confused by her own slides. The course content itself isn't even hard, she just makes the course confusing. Avoid.
Avoid if you can! Genuinely feel like I have learned/know nothing from this class. No feedback of value on labs, unorganized, rude, & cannot answer students question (made students feel awful for trying to ask a question/clarification). This class was a complete mess. Exams made absolutely no sense.
TERRIBLE! So much to say but they dont give you more than 350 characters. Her exams are unfair and almost impossible solely because her grammar is so bad you dont know what she is asking. She needs to chilI, too much to be a nurse prof & farmer! Material we were told we would NEVER be tested on was on the final. RUDE and unprofessional. UNORGANIZED
Do not recommend. Expectations are unclear and even though the material seems simple, the exam questions are tricky (need to look out for small words - all, only, just etc.).
She takes FOREVER to mark labs and answer emails. Her class is quite hard as well, and on her final exam there were some very weirdly worded questions and things that were not taught in class. Do attend her lectures since she will often give hints and highlight important information that will be on labs + exams.
Stats is an inherently tough course, but Prof. Hogan makes it even more difficult. She was consistently unorganized and created an intimidating environment to ask questions about course material. Lectures are confusing and exam questions were like riddles. I hope she finds a better work-life balance to benefit both her and her students.
She isn't the best teacher but her midterms and exams were fairly easy. I stopped going to class halfway through. The labs may have been disorganized but they were VERY easy. I didn't do any of the readings and it didn't seem to affect my grade. She doesn't actually make you do math like the other profs it's all theory. Overall, the class was easy.
Overall she is not a bad prof, you have online quizzes and a paper. During her live lectures she gives sample exam questions (very helpful). Study the slides and read the textbook, you will do just fine. She helps with the essay if you need help with ideas. You can find the textbook online for free.
Not sure why she has so many bad reviews, her classes seem easy and straight forwards. Labs are a little confusing but overall they aren't too hard if you followed lectured. Haven't done any midterms yet, but practice midterm seems very reasonable. She will also stay a bit longer after class to answer any student questions.
The midterm had a lot of common sense questions and it is easy to achieve a B with little to no studying. However, she responds to emails weeks later. She is always willing to host office hours but she has so many meetings because she doesn't explain what she is looking for in assignments. Still an easy grader but definitely vague with expecations.
Unorganized, cancels lectures last minute, rambles on about personal experiences that are irrelevant to class. By the end of the 2nd class was empty (I also stopped attending) because it added no value to the class. Group project instructions are very vague and was graded hard. The class was mostly common sense but her wording was not. Hopeless :(
Content of course wasn't difficult, however her wording on midterms/exams were. It was clear that the final exam was not proofread whatsoever, and for somebody paying this much in tuition you would think the quality of professor work would be better. Her wording, coupled with grammatical errors, completely changed the meaning of the questions.
A very careless professor who often makes common mistakes.
I have never written any rating on any prof, but I am at my wits-end with this prof. It is truly a talent to make an easy course hard. It is truly a talent to make so many of the same mistakes EVERY SINGLE SEMESTER. It is truly a talent to get every student you teach to absolutely despise taking classes with you. Avoid her at all costs!
She is honestly the worst professor I've ever had. The fact that a rude professor like her could teach at uOttawa shows uOttawa has very low standards. I've heard countless stories of rude emails from her (and have experienced them myself). Additionally, her exams, instructions, and teaching are unclear, disorganized, and full of grammar mistakes.
she is the worst professor ever, if you wanna save your GPA. Don't take her class
very hard headed, beware.
AWFUL: passive agressive, assumes things while you speak and becomes very rude, blames the whole class for not understanding and not her own poor teaching, so many typos in exams, slides are so confusing, disorganized and repetitive, says she will post lab times and never did, the SPSS software didn't work for half the class, but blames us... AVOID
Genuinely the most incompetent prof ive had. MCQs could not be any more unclear which will ultimately result on poor performance for her exams which thee content for is super simple. She makes this class a lot harder then it needs to be, and takes long to return grades even tho the exam was full mcq on brightspace, no proctor
Prof Hogan was unaccessible entire term, giving "instructions" for assignment, not found on the course website at all. Her class was labeled as on Zoom and in person, however she decided 30 mins before class started. She often cancelled class and asked us to attend her other section which had class conflicts, and didn't record lectures.
Professor Hogan's class can be a mixed bag. While the material is challenging, using unstuckstudy for practice tests and studying helped me stay on top of things. Attend lectures, as she highlights key info for exams.
AVOID!! super unorganized, never came to class and impossible to contact (wants you to text her and never responds). Research proposal had absolutely not guideline to follow and was graded hard. Exam questions do not reflect what was taught in class. For your own sake, avoid at all costs.
I do not understand how this person is still employed at uottawa. Tested questions are taken from an exam written a decade ago, does not apply to the current course and uses terms not taught in class OR in textbook. No useful info is conveyed in lectures. Professor thinks it's hilarious how disorganized she is while she wastes every student's time.
if you have literally any other option, take that one instead
Dr. Kerry-Anne Hogan's questions on her exams sometimes are counter-intuitive and oppose what she teaches in class. Her slides contain voice notes that are irrelevant to the slide itself, such as stories from her personal life. For the solo/group research proposal project, she provided no assignment outline. She is unreachable by email alltogether.
Doesn't give any feedback on exams nor post exam answers for us to review how we did. Is completely unreachable via email. Feedback on group project does not make sense (deducted grades for something not even specified on the rubric). Avoid taking her if you want to perform well.
This should have been an easy course, but the midterm and exam questions were so vague and unclear. It made it difficult to get a good grade, even after studying. The assignment isn't too hard, but she will take off grades for small things which makes getting an A+ very difficult. I would take this course with another prof.
do not take ANY course with her. drop it. im telling u. drop. it. now. she constantly contradicts herself and can't form proper sentences. slow talker, takes up the entire 3 hour lecture, opens quizzes unannounced, rants about her personal life more than lecturing. absolutely horrible. the amount of confusion in every single class is.. just wow.
Tests are very tricky and hard. Must show up to lectures.
I was really trying to make excuses for her but she lacks basic principles to be a prof. Her explanations and manner of teaching is like that of a student trying to explain the concepts; vague and full of contradictions. She always goes back on her words which makes the class even more confusing. P/1
Exams and midterms were easy and fair IF you have studied lecture slides and read all the research papers she gives (which is a lot!). Often was rude and passive aggressive when talking to students.
This prof is all over the map, she is incredibly disorganized and bordering rude when students ask simple questions. Her tone of voice is very passive aggressive. She also thinks it quirky to not answer her emails. Overall simple course made extremely hard and confusing. Talks way too much about her personal life too. avoid her if possible.
This prof is extremely unorganized. Expectations are unclear and her lectures are all over the place. She will jump between topics and struggles to find the point she is trying to make. She is unfriendly when people ask questions and openly does not respond to emails. She tends to make mistakes and is often corrected by her students. Avoid!
Horrible. I don't know why she even teaches classes if she's a full time nurse. She misses her own classes for her other job, she doesn't make sense, etc. Her exams are average but honestly it is like talking to a wall. You never get responses to your emails, even after months. There is so much more but not enough space to complain on this :(
I don't know who she thinks she is, because she acts like everyone owes her something. She tries to lecture me on indigenous matter when I AM LITERALLY ALGONQUIN. She claims she lived on a reservation, almost like a flex; it's weird and discriminatory. She just throws it out there at random moments. I never cringed so hard at a prof.
I will NEVER EVER take her course again.
Every lecture was a comedy special I didn't sign up for. She ignores emails, drops assignments whenever the spirit moves her, panics through slides she hasn't reviewed, and somehow manages to block every diagram on the board. Entertaining? Yes. Educational? No. At some point, I genuinely considered throwing my notebook and quitting.
If a student has a question, she either doesn't have an answer for them or comes across as rude and condescending. The course was extremely disorganized and a constant challenge to try and keep up with what was required each week with work and the content. You should attend the lectures, she does give a lot of questions that are on upcoming exams.
I've taken this prof 2 times now and nothing has improved. An online class and an in person class. The online class was the worst class I've ever taken. Content was constantly posted weeks late, and emails often went unanswered. The midterm review for the online class was posted day of the midterm. I would avoid this prof at all costs necessary.
dont like her. avoid her at all costs. she is a mess. doenst answer emails and says to text her phone number instead, and she still ignores you!! she should definitely give up teaching, her slides are also all over the place. her exam and midterm questions werent so bad tho but she just makes the whole learning process so stressful and disorganized
Her slideshows + Brightspace are very informative!
most unorganized and disrespectful prof. at first, she seems super kind until you get into the course and she gives no direction with studying and has no clue about anything thats going on. she is rude to students who have questions and doesn't reply to emails (even since the start of the semester!!) wont tell you what's on the final either.
AVOID HER AT ALL COSTS!!!! DO NOT TAKE HER IF POSSIBLE.
Please do not take any classes with this prof. She is really inconsiderate if you have a medical note. Most of the homework doesn't make sense or that it is poorly explained. Doesn't answer her emails. Her availability or what is considered her “office hours” is right after class or during class. After that, everything is up to you to find out.
Save your self from unnecessary stress. this professor is horrible. supperrrrr horible. what ever you do NOT take her. This class is suppose to be a simple A but she made it super hard. her slide shows are awful. over 100 slides just to explain a simple concept. She is also really rude when you reach out to her for help. Exam was a guessing game.
Don't take her if you have any other choice. She is mean, unorganized, arrogant, and completely unprofessional. I learned NOTHING from her. I had to teach myself the entire course. I seriously don't know why UO hired her. This class was a complete waste of time and money.
Please do not take this class with this prof. The reviews are very much true and sums up the type of prof they are. horrible horrible and horrible!
Definitely not the best, but manageable
DO NOT TAKE HER. She is rude, unorganized, and unwilling to help students. Only answers text messages, then gets mad, so unprofessional. it is diabolical that we are expected to pay for a class with her teaching. She didn't know how to upload an exam & cried in class, reciting the lyrics to bad day, scheduled a zoom and then didn't even show up...
Definitely the WORST prof at UO!!!
Literally what the heck is this class. Worst prof I've ever had. Bright space was very unorganized and midterm/final was a guessing game. Basically didn't know what to take notes on because the slides were so bad. Group project is vague and graded harshly. Almost missed the final on zoom because she only mentioned it once on a random announcement.
Escape before it's too late! For sure the worst prof I've ever hard. She thinks it's a flex to not respond to her email. Her lectures are not good, she explains in a way where she's acting like we already learnt this content. Everything needs to be self taught. She can be very rude and condescending.
I would rather get hit by a car then take this class again..... The content was very straightforward but Kerry Anne made it so confusing. Her slides are so unclear/disorganized and she refuses to respond to emails. Her heart is in the right place but she has a chaotic teaching style.
She treats class like a side hustle, adds audio to slides and sounds half asleep. Unclear instructions for assignment, and dont count on TAs for help cuz they dk whats going on either. Exams are a joke with ambiguous qs, making it impossible to do well. I will be retaking this class with another prof. JUST DROP HER, save ur GPA
joke of a professor, content would have been much more straightforward if taught by literally anyone else. dont expect her to answer your emails or questions ever (i asked a question and she shrugged and walked away from me.) spare yourself
Y'all r buggin. Easy class with an easy-going professor. This is the GPA booster if you treat it like one.
