Really nice and laid back - goes over info on quiz right before quiz so easy 10/10 - helpful and clear in class! Really wants students to do well - definitely take her if you can!
The BEST lab teacher I have ever had. I'm not the smartest when it comes to labs, but she took extra time to explain things to me. I really felt I learned a lot in the class, and that's all because of her. TAKE HER!
She's cute and knows what she's talking about. She just talks VERY fast and covers A LOT of material in one class period. So you have to keep up and constantly study, which is a pain.
She is really sweet, but tends to not know exactly everything she talks about. She is very helpful. The tests are okay if you study, and you hardly use the book, or bring it to class. She's always willing to help!
extremely cute women. she gives powerpoints out at the beginning of each class which help for the test. She rambles and sometime goes off in a different direction then the lecture but overall is a really good professor.
I absolutely loved this class!!!! she is a very good teacher and so nice and helpful!!! her test are hard...if you dont study but if you go to class and listen the tests come straight from her notes! its a good class and i love her!!! :)
Dr. C is amazing! she was a great lab teacher & really wanted you to learn the material. she's very helpful and wants you to get a good grade.. for any section of 214L KNOW the goals of the recombinant DNA lab..will appear on lab quiz/test MANY times!
She is awesome, and so laid back in class. Her tests are completely reasonable and everything comes from key points on the power points, which she prints out and gives you every class.
Very enjoyable class. Cresawn really cares about her students and takes suggestions to heart. Tests are a bit hard, but all of the information is on the powerpoints she hands out.
Dr. Cresawn was a great professor and extremely helpful. Attend her office hours if you have any problems with the postlabs/writeups and she will be more than willing to help.
Dr. C is one of my favorite professors. She really cares about her students, and goes out her way to help. Her tests are right from the study guides and lecture slides but you really need to be able to apply the information, not just learn useless facts. I actually LEARNED alot in her class. TAKE THIS CLASS!! and go to office hours!
Mrs. Cresawn is a really good teacher. She even prints out the powerpoints for you before every class. Just study for the tests and this class is cake. + she is a super cool person
I'm a bio major and she is definitely one of the best prof I have had. Very clear with both the material and what she expects from you. Really cool person. She obviously enjoys what she does and is extremely knowledgeable. TAKE HER!
She's the man.. She made the most boring stuff totally do-able and her tests are from powerpoints. But don't think it's an easy A b/c she really wants you to LEARN something not just memorize. Def. take her- so down to Earth and so chill.. go to office hours to get to know her because she's such a nice person
Dr. C is the best! I would highly recommend taking her class. She wants you to do well and learn the material so she is there to help and do whatever she can. Her test are very straight forward. I would say to go to class, do the study guides, and attend her tests reviews if possible. It really should be easy to get an A/B no problem.
If you have an opportunity to take her by all means do! She does an amazing job about explaining things & she makes sure everyone understand the material. She also works really well with her students & keeps class interesting! I would take her for every class if possible.
I am so glad I took AP Bio in college, because otherwise I would have no idea what she is talking about.
Her class is all lecture, just show up and pay attention. I missed so many days and I should have tried harder. I still got a passing grade. She post all the lectures online as well if you miss class. Highly recommend getting her if possible. If you have a problem with anything, just email her she's very understanding. Kinda ditsy but I liked her!
She's super nice, super helpful, super good at explaining things. I really enjoyed this class. We didn't use the textbook at all, which was brilliant, and she's very fair with tests. I entirely recommend taking a class with her.
Cresawn is the BEST professor I've had so far! She makes the material so interesting, and very easy to understand. I love how she makes it fun and easy, and I can definitely use what she's taught me in the future! TAKE HER, YOU WON'T REGRET IT!
she's the best!!!
Great teacher. Very fair and material is not difficult to follow if you pay attention and do some studying. Tests are a reasonable and require some effort. She is always willing to help.
Dr. C is seriously the best!!! If you can take DO IT!!!! the class is so much fun for student and teacher and you learn so many fun activities that can be taken into the classroom. Tests are group and only ten questions(so easy) and other than that there are just activities! There is also a super fun field trip to a preschool!
A good class. My best advice is to go to classes and listen to the lectures... read over the power points and ask questions... do all three and you'll get an A in lecture. don't forget about lab. too many people underestimate it and it hurts them. Cresawn is great and helpful, everything is straight forward.
I loved Dr. C! She is so down to earth, and actually HUMAN! She brought food for us in the early morning and made an effort to keep class interesting ! Tests are in groups. Would highly recommend
Dr. C is awesome. So cool. Very nice and extremely willing to help. Really cares about helping her students on an individual level and helping her students get the most out of the class. Stays on task and teaches with clarity. Creates interesting lectures and assignments. Great instructor all around.
Kerry Cresawn is wonderful! She is extremely laid back, helpful, and funny. Attendance is taken via clicker questions. As long as you put forth effort and go to class, you should have no problem passing the class with a decent grade. I strongly recommend her!
Professor Cresawn is awesome! She is actually quite helpful. She is there to boost people's grades. She won't let anyone fail. She brings food to class sometimes and has great powerpoints. Just go to class you will pass. She even has group tests which are really helpful in case you bomb by yourself. Take this class!
By far the BEST professor I have ever had at JMU! She really knows what she is teaching and wants her students to succeed! She is so friendly and approachable. Give group test after you take the test alone which helps boost your individual grade! Class is fun and she makes you want to be there! ABSOLUTELY TAKE HER!!
Has been my FAVORITE teacher so far at JMU!She is a great lecturer, funny and engaging. She really makes the topic interesting. People say her tests are hard but they are fair because she prepares you for them. I liked her so much I made sure I got her for 214 lab as well. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!
Creswan is a great teacher! She is charismatic, sweet, and funny. She obviously loves to teach. Her tests are really super hard. She uses critical thinking and you can always narrow it down to two answers on a test. She does curve and gives extra credit sometimes.
Absolutely love her! She is one of the most helpful lab professors ever, and you'll definitely need it for cell and molec. Our group messed up almost every lab and she doesn't take off points and does her best to make the best of it. She's also great in office hours!
Picked Cresawn based on Ratemyprofessor comments that said she was easy. Bio was my lowest grade this semester. Her powerpoints are unorganized and distracting, and she never managed to make a single one without spelling errors or other errors. Most people scored around a 75 on her exams. Only good thing is that she curves the final grade
Dr. C is a cool professor. A bit unorganized at times and tests are challenging....READ POWERPOINTS and have good critical thinking skills and you will do well. Curves questions if less than 20% of the class gets it correct. Did terribly on her first exam, but worked hard the next 3 and ended up with a solid B in the course.
She is a great teacher and really doesn't care about grades she wants you to truly understand the material. She wants her students to be able to apply biology not just memorize deffinitions.
This teacher is terrible, I don't even care that I miss class because it is a waste of time. The only reason you should show up to class is to get points for in class assignments which boost your grade some, although they are convoluted and you will almost never know the answers. I've dedicated this semester to raising my grade, and this killed it.
Dr. Cresawn's class is the best BIO114 class I could've chosen. She's extremely helpful and understanding; her tests are a little challenging, but are going to be extremely helpful in upper level classes. If you study, it's definitely possible to get an A. She's fun to talk to and she's extremely funny. Definitely take this class!
A lot of kids complained that Dr. C was unorganized and had tricky questions bc it seemed like they expected to have their hand held thru this course. if you do the reading, take notes, and go to pass sessions, its not hard! no attendance policy but frequent clicker questions. Dr. C's bio 114 is MUCH more simple than any other bio 114. TAKE HER!!!
She won't hold your hand thru this course and if you're a Type A person, she could annoy you. Her class will be MUCH simpler than other bio 114's. reading w/ note taking is necessary. LOTS of group work. attendance isn't taken but group work & clicker ?s will reflect your attendance. I loved her, take her and get to know her outside of class!
She is so helpful and has you do activities which really help reinforce the concepts. I took AP Biology and did well, but didn't really feel that I learned much, so it's nice to actually learn the material and like the subject now. She is so helpful and amazing!
I LOVE Dr. Cresawn! She is so helpful, so nice, and she genuinely cares about her students. She does group testing and group final, which is 50% of each test grade and helps a ton. Tests can be tricky sometimes but if you study a lot and come to class you should be fine. She is by far my favorite professor!
Dr.C is great.I would take her again.Go to her during office hours! She's not intimidating at all.Lab inherently requires work-Dr.C doesn't pile you w/ unexpected busy work. Your workload is what you'd expect from a 200level lab course. (post labs,1full lab report, weekly quizzes-most are group & can use notes, etc)
Lovely lady. This class is kinda hard, but if you just read over her powerpoints, do the group work, and pay attention, you can do well. Got a 100 on the final just by typing up her powerpoints and studying them. I would totally take the class again.
Dr. Cresawn is probably the best teacher I have ever had. She really understands how students learn. At first I was annoyed at the concept of group work and group tests but by the end I realized what an amazing learning tool they are. Learned so much from her, take this professor! She will make bio fun! Go Dr.Cresawn!!
Dr. Cresawn is an awesome teacher. I took both BIO 114 and BIO 124L with Dr. Cresawn. She is extremely helpful and very clear. I definitely recommend her. She's awesome
If you enjoy biology and want to still enjoy it after this class, don't take her. She confuses herself while lecturing and rarely actually teaches. She splits you up into groups in the beginning and you're stuck with them for group exams and relies upon the group teaching each other. It's a terrible, ineffective system. She is a poor teacher.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. Powerpoints are so scatterbrained and confusing. You work with groups the whole time and teach yourself. Her tests are the most difficult things I have ever taken in my life... I took her because she got great ratings on here, but I completely regret it. RUN AWAAYYYY NOW
Dr. Cresawn is AMAZING! I loved her and loved her class. By no means is it easy, you have to work for your grade. However, she will go out of her way to help you! Literally anything! She is even my professional reference! Make sure you buy the textbook and go to class. Sometimes they are a tad scattered, but if you follow the book, you'll be fine!
Professor Cresawn is a great professor. It seems like she has thought a lot about how to best teach us so it sticks in our mind. Unfortunately, the tests are impossible. You will know a subject, but because of the wording you get it wrong. The tests are 11-15 questions and then you take it as a group which improves your grade. Read carefully.
You have to work in groups and participate. Attendance is by clicker questions and her tests are fair to gauge understanding of the material so they are not easy but if you read and study they are simple but read the WHOLE question they are also taken in groups to help you. She really wants to help you so don't hesitate to speak with her.
If you struggle in this class then Bio is not for you. She does a great job connecting the processes you learn about in high school to the big picture. I feel like I came away with a much more comprehensive understanding of how the natural world works. Her tests require a deeper understanding, do NOT expect just to regurgitate the material.
Lectures are hella confusing, always so scattered and sometimes even wrong. A lot of online quizzes that she curves heavily to boost your grade but the tests are almost impossible. 3 tests and the final, give you 30 mins to do a 12-15 question test and 20 minutes to do it with yourr group since she uses IF-AT scantrons. Be careful.
This is not an easy class, but her tests aren't terrible, they're partially group based so even if you fail you'll probably do okay because of the group. Lots of in class group stuff. Go to class, study a little and you'll do fine.
She is very nice and smart, but tests are really hard. Do group work almost every day.
She was a good lab professor but didnt explain labs very well. You had to ask questions throughout the lab to not mess up and start over. Overall good professor i guess though
Dr. Cresawn is a great teacher. This was my favorite class I have taken so far at JMU. The way she teaches makes it easy to remember. There is a lot of group work, and a group section of tests, so make sure you pick a smart group or you will be screwed. She is very funny and you can tell she puts a lot of time and thought into how she teaches.
This professor talks really fast but gives very in depth material to help students pass. She gives "case studies" as group work and helps a lot when you need it. The quizzes are graded on a curve and she is very approachable. There are 2 parts to the tests, 60% of the grade is individual and 40% of the grade is done with the IFAT in your group.
I really enjoy her class. She really tries to help your grade.
Be prepared for a lot of group work - not only are you in a group with the five people you sit with on the second day of classes, but you take tests with them(take multiple choice set alone and with group, average your scores - unless you scored higher). Reads straight from power points, cancels class a fair amount and moves tests back.
Dr. Cresawn is really great; I like her enthusiasm and the way she teaches. She gives you all of her PowerPoint notes which are pretty much what you should study along with group work activities for tests. That being said, there is A LOT of group work, but I really liked my group so I can't complain. Clicker questions count for points; go to class!
Tests are not fair. Her questions are too wordy and make you confuse yourself. Even if you studied for hours and know the material well you could still do poorly. Would take Ludwig if I could go back.
She has poorly worded questions on every exam. You need to understand the way the communicates ideas in order to do well on exams. Doesn't put classwork or homework grades in Canvas in a timely manner. However if you have a question or feel as though you were treated unfairly, she is easy to approach and will always listen.
She's a super nice lady and wants you to succeed! One time when the test average was super low she helped us out and curved it. Go to PASS sessions they help so much! Lots of group work, and the tests are partly group! You only use the textbook a handful of times to take like 4 online quizzes throughout the year. Overall a minimum amount of work!
Her lectures are typically short and the homework is easy. If you took AP Bio in high school with a good teacher then this class is a breeze.
Dr. Cresawn is a likable teacher. Her lectures are very informative and easy to remember. She uses alternative lecturing techniques. The homework and clicker questions are easy. The tests are also very easy. The tests are half individual and half group, so make sure you sit near some reliable people. One of the easiest classes I've taken at JMU.
Cresson is actually a very good professor. She takes the time to make sure her students understand what she is teaching, but that's if you reach out to her individually. She can often make lectures long and vague so it seems pretty confusing at times. Her notes don't help much so it's best to read the textbook and do the online quizzes.
Really nice professor. You don't have to take notes because she prints off the slides. Class is group based with case studies as part of your grade (they are annoying, but not hard). Tests are pretty easy, but sometimes there are dumb questions which she ends up throwing out, so you end up with a decent grade.
Dr. Cresawn is a great lab professor. She is helpful in lab and willing to clear up things if they don't click right away. Most of the stuff is group lab reports and that is helpful. She is easy to get ahold of outside of class, and even gives you her cell number! Very sweet lady and I would also recommend checking into her education research! :)
The biology department just implemented a new course causing her to be very unorganized. It is a flip style teaching and the power points are confusing/out of order. You will learn more from the textbook. Overall, nice person but teaching skills are not great. Office hours are not constant. Group exams are a bonus.
Her questions are always poorly worded and difficult to understand. Often times she can't even explain them and resorts to giving up. The power points are overly complicated for concepts that should be fairly simple. She often becomes flustered when asked questions and her teacher skills are lacking. She's nice but the class sucks.
Was one of the hardest classes and I'm a Chem major. Tests were way more detailed and difficult than need be. Dr. Cresawn is a nice person, but she is not good at lecturing. I would not recommend this class especially to people who actually like Bio, because you might not after this.
So unorganized. Her lectures don't make sense. We all had to teach ourselves everything and then the tests were so hard. Her test questions are worded so that even if you know the information, you can still get it wrong just from being confused by the wording.
Since this semester was the first time Bio 140 was taught, Dr. Cresawn was very unorganized. However, I learned at the end of the semester that she was dealing with significant events in her personal life so that made me ease up on her. She does care for her students and was generous with grades at the end of the semester. Overall, she is alright.
When I took Bio 140 with Dr. Cresawn it was her time teaching the class. The class was confusing, filled with odd group assignments that appeared to be thought up during class. I felt like I got nothing out of the lectures. Most everything I learned I read in the text book for the tests. The test questions are HARD, but she is lenient on the grades
Dr. Cr taught with Ludwig for 140's trial run. Both are good friends & make class entertaining, but can become confusing sometimes with new material. Overall, great professor with lots of experience (helped develop research a cure for a very rare genetic disorder) and knowledge of the bio & a genuine person who cares about her students' success.
Confusing test questions. Her poor way of explaining things takes simple biology and makes it hard to understand. She is nice, but teaching is not for her. Avoid if possible.
She really tries to be a good teacher but it's just not her thing. She messes up often and is disliked by many students as a professor. Test questions are difficult because she can't explain things well in lecture, but definitely go because she prints out useful notes for you. Group tests are dank grade savers. This prof is a win-lose
Unless you're a biology whiz, avoid this class at all costs. I have no background in Biology since high school and this class wrecked me, although it is supposed to be a 100 level.I am a 2nd semester senior and this is the worst class I've taken here. She jumps around and goes 100mph through lectures, I never understand what she's talking about.
DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER! professor creswan is very nice but a terrible teacher. She can't teach so she reads off her powerpoint but can barely do that. She jumps around topics not really discussing anything and gets flustered during her lectures. Her exams are okay but she always makes some sort of mistake on them.
Cresawn means well, but makes concepts very hard. There is a very obvious disconnect between her lectures and the exam questions she gives. The subject material is in the exam (which is fair), but the wording is unnecessarily hard to the point that she can't even properly answer questions about it or understand it herself. Wouldn't recommend
She's really nice, but not a particularly good professor. Doesn't convey the ideas well. Almost as if she's too smart to teach the class.
This class was the most confusing basic Bio class of my life. I took extensive Bio classes in high school and it was the only thing that saved me. I had to really work to understand the information and was still befuddled. She is ridiculously wordy and she doesn't understand the basic principals of teaching. If you're not super smart with Bio avoid
For a GenEd, this class is hard. If you're a senior trying to meet the science requirement, I do not recommend this class unless you took AP or DE Biology in high school and understood it. If you are a bio major, I highly recommend this class because she's the easiest professor for 140. - 3 in-class exams - Cumulative Final - all group assignments
All of her tests are taken individually for about 40 minutes and then taken within your group for the last 30 minutes which is really helpful if you're stuck on a certain question. Recommend going to class and writing on her handouts, she also has amazing pass sessions by her pass leader!
You get to take group exams, so your grade is boosted every time by that. Her exams reflect what you learn in class and she's really easy to talk to, super nice and accessible outside of class and will always answer questions and explain things in the most clear simple way. BEST BIO 140 PROFESSOR HERE TAKE HER!!!!
First of all, she hands out slides and doesnt explain them she just goes "um so yeah" like im sorry? almost as if she doesnt know what shes teaching, tests are extra hard for no reason
BIO140 is hard. She does an overall good job at explaining the material. Hands out the slides in class, to take notes on. Is accessible outside class for help GO TO HER EARLY ON! The wording she uses on her tests are VERY confusing because she wants you to ask questions, ask and she'll help you out. Best choice for BIO140 overall
Dr. Cresawn was an okay professor. She wasn't very organized and was kind of all over the place. She didn't really explain anything during lectures, instead just read off the ppt slides. Made lots of mistakes on her tests and didn't give any points back. but there is a group portion to the exams. However, she was very laid back and super nice.
