i hated speech and don't like presenting in front of the class. this teacher is so hilarious and can sometimes make herself look like a dork so i feel less like a dork. she's awesome and very helpful. you'll have a blast in her class. i recommended professor ford!

She is the only teacher I have ever had that actually wakes you up. After a long day at work, I'm usually a little tired in class. Nope. Not hers. Her ability to work the class, and teach at the same time is amazing. I would recommend this teacher to any student who needs to take COM 101, or COM 102. And even if you don't need to. Just take it.

I'm in her class right now. I'm DEATHLY afraid of public speaking, however, Kerry somehow managed to make everyone feel comfortable in front of class. Of course, she criticizes you, but its CONSTRUCTIVE criticism. She also knows how to grab the students attention and keep it for that 3 hour long class! Awesome.

She is amazing. One of the best teachers I have ever had. She is extremely smart but at the same time one of her fav. movies is Wedding Crashers... so her jokes are amazing. Just overall shes been teaching long enough to know what shes talking about and she is so helpful! :)

She makes her class (on campus) very entertaining and she makes you feel better about speaking in front of people. She does like international students, but only the hot ones! I am not :( But overall, she is great instructor and loves magazines to keep her up to date.

Amazing teacher. I took her for 101 and 102! There wasn't one time I went to class and didnt laugh. The class itself (102) is pretty easy. She gives you the notes, you discuss things, have two easy papers about yourself, and some tests which if you study your notes are easy. Class relates to everyday life! Couldnt of been happier :]]

Fantastic instructor. Never really seemed like a class because she was such a good instructor. Wasn't looking forward to communications, but I am really glad I took it- especially with Kerry as the instructor. Get her if you can, her classes fill up quick.

One the best instructors ever. Stays on task and is funny! You will know how to give speeches by the end of the semester. Go to class, read the syallbus and do the speeches, that's all she asks. Amazing how many students continued to blow off class and speeches and were shocked that they were failing! Doesn't take any crap but she's fair.

She's animated, fun, and informational.Overheads are a bit outdated, but she is never late or unorganized. There are 5 speeches and 3 impromptu ones. Everything is in the syllabus and she goes by it. One midterm and one final, but they aren't speeches. Useful critiques are given after your speech. Extra credit if you never miss a day. A fun class!

Kerry is a stand-up comedian. She is funny and an excellent teacher. Her remarks are helpful to all students. If you attend class, you don't need the book. I ended up buying the former edition of the book and did fine with it. she made the semester fun.

I loved Kerry's class! She's really funny and it wasn't a drag taking her class at all. She will make you work but she makes you understand things and doesn't jerk you around like you have no other classes or life. Fun teacher. No-nonsense w/ a sharp yet goofy sense of humor. Goes off on her own tangents quite a bit but kept things interesting. Material was fairly easy esp if you attend class & take notes. She covered everything that was on the tests &, while I always did the reading, you could probably get away without. 2 easy papers are big part of grade.

This class is practically like going to a free comedy show, she'll have you laughing the whole hour, very helpful and straight to the point. Caution: she may be snippidy on her grumpy days but dont take it personal. i love this teacher!! Do take her class she is the best.

Kerry's hilarious and always there to help. She hates when students DONT ask questions because she feels they aren't listening. During speaches she'll do the sound of a buzzer if youre doing isnt correct. I got an A in her class, but a lot of people said they couldn't get an A to save their life. If you don't try.. you won't get an A. But take her!

Wow this is for all you haters, I guess you got a failing grade. FYI 3 people dropped out of the Summerlin Spring Class. If you are serious about school, she's a great teacher, if you're not stay home, she's not for you. Attendance is required should this even be considered @ the college level. Entertaining, very funny at times. She helps you understand what you are doing wrong and creates an environment that puts the class at ease. If you follow her guidlines for your speech, you should be able to get an A. Looking forward to taking her for COM102.

I found her to be quite entertaining. Very respectful of other peoples views and provides direct and honest feedback. The truth hurts if you suck, and if you suck she will let you know. I can appreciate that kind of honesty in a TEACHER. (They're not there to be your best friend like your mommy was)

I was ALWAYS looking forward to her classes. She is an exceptional teacher. Prof. Kerry has a distinguishing /gripping persona. She will find your weakness and help you to overcome it! You must be prepared though; she does not like any nonsense. I highly recommend her for international students as well 

I really REALLY hate public speaking and I still do, but I could not see myself taking the class and being successful without someone with the personality. Only negative is that she can ramble on off topic. On big deal. She appears to grade on your improvement over time.

Ford is a cool lady. She tells funny remarks and jokes alot and does not require a book. The only downside to her class is that she shows favoritism and if your not one of those "favorite" students, your grade will be lower. You also have to speak infront of the class every class of th esemester except for about 3 or 4.

I loved her class. She has 4 major speeches and a few little in class exercises where she gives you a topic and a little bit to come up with a speech. She doesn't use a book and she jokes a lot. Great professor! Been teaching a long time, so she knows her stuff. As long as you show up for lectures, your speeches will be great! =D

Prof. Ford is very entertaining. Great humor, and basically, "just the facts" kind of style. I would recommend her class; especially if you don't want to be video recorded or read a lot of material from an assigned book. 101 class is a good balance of material covered and time required for a requisite class many of us would rather not have to take!

This class took up A LOT of time. Not an easy A if that's what you're looking for. She's funny, entertaining, and honest. Fun class to go to if there weren't so many speeches, but I guess that's what COM101 is. Kerry is by far the most entertaining professor at CSN. The COM 102 class is 3 exams and 2 papers to write, she is a difficult grader on the papers so ask questions if your not sure on what she is looking for but overall she is awsome! I had Kerry last semester and she is by far one of the best instructor I've had. She's very funny and she knows what she's talking about. I hate public speaking but she made 3 hours of class very tolerable. No textbook is required for her class either. Her finals are easy too.

I must say that Kerry is very entertaining and the reason why I have thought twice about not missing class. She is VERY knowledgeable, but you wouldn't think that because of her kooky personality. This was the one class I was scared about but Kerry made it so much easier and fun. I enjoyed her class so much. If she isn't happy, no one is happy, so just pay attention. She is very clear with what she expects. No book needed at all. Attend class.

Kerry is great! I took her class nervous like crazy because I don't do public speaking. But it was a good experience. She always told you how to improve and of course doesn't hold back but she isn't super aggressive about it. Don't miss class! The tests are of the notes. Extra credit if you are there everyday and not late. Practice those speeches!

Kerry grades for content not on speaking ability, excellent for bad speakers. She has a specific outline format, but she'll help you with the first few. If you are easily insulted or sensitive, stay away. She makes joking jabs and uses your mistakes speaking to teach. She keeps up on current events and has interesting and informed political views.

Kerry is best at breaking habits. Reality check, public speaking is scary. Kerry will make you more comfortable and will tell you what she wants and if you follow the guidelines and her method you should be able to get a A. Now given you have to put effort in your speeches, this is college, but if you practice, stay within the time, you'll pass.

This teacher has been teaching for 20+ years. She knows how she wants her speeches, and what she expects from her students, so that means no book! She has a great, funny personality that makes public speaking feel fun. Just take notes and pay attention to what she says in lectures, PRACTICE your speeches, do EVERYTHING she says easy A.

Very fun class! Only two exam that consist of your mid term and final. Four speeches as well as two impromptu speeches. If you're looking for a class you can have a personality in this is a must take. Remember "college is hard" in the words of Kerry Ford.

If you want to take a Com class that is not only informative, fun, requires no textbook and you'll spent the vast majority of the time laughing this is it. I wish all my professors were as outgoing and gregarious as Kerry. It's one of those classes that you actually look forward to going to and a bit sadden when the semester ends.

Professor Ford is an amazing person. She brutally honest so if you are sensitive don't take her. It was one phenomenal experience this semester in her class. She wants things done her way.

Kerry is a wonderful human being. I was extremely nervous for a communications class, but took my friend's advice to take her. She is hilarious, and will joke with you to make you more comfortable in front of a classroom. I have improved immensely in my public speaking skills all thanks to her unusual, blunt method in class.

Kerry is a great professor. However when it comes to speeches she is very specific on how to do them and will mark you off when you do something incorrect. But before you do your speeches she tells you what she wants, so make sure you show up to class. Also take notes because the midterm and final exam are on the notes. Good luck!

Kerry Ford is the BEST college professor I've had so far. Not only is she entertaining and hilarious (even during lectures), but she also gives really good feedback when it comes to speeches. She helps shy students feel comfortable during their speeches and will definitely improve your public speaking skills.

Professor Ford is simply AWESOME! Her lectures are always entertaining, and she makes it relatively easy to get an A, and really easy to get a B. You may not always agree with her grading since COM is subjective, but at the same time - an A is an A. Super quick grader. You receive your grade the day of your speech. TAKE PROFESSOR FORD!!!!!

Professor Ford was one of my FAVORITE teachers. She always made me laugh in every lecture. She is real caring and when you would do speeches she'd give AMAZING feedback. If she would teach com 102 I would most definitely take her but she doesn't

No book necessary. Professor Ford is so inspirational, and of the big reasons I switched my major. She is very honest, some may say brutally, but if you apply her feedback it will pay off. Received grades the same day and she truly cares about her job, as well as students. Take her class, you won't regret it! Easy A if you follow instructions.

Professor Ford is the perfect communications instructor, sweetly critical and blunt. BEST professor you will have for COM. If you are a soft one and can't take real feedback do no take her but she means nothing but good. She is the realest you will have and the most fun. There are about 6 speeches. AS long as you do what she wants you will be perfect for this class. Seriously this is your best option for a professor.

I was taken her class in fall terms. During this terms, she gave us the best feedback and sometimes tell a joke with demonstrate during the studying time. I recommend to you should take this class. She will help you how could you be the great. I like her teaching style.

Kerry never failed to keep the class engaged and laughing. Overall an amazing class. Attendance is not mandatory but you get extra credit if you come to all. Midterm and final are based on notes and quite easy. Kerry is very clear on what she wants and gives phenomenal feedback. As long as you prepare and practice your speeches you will succeed!

I am naturally good at communicating, Mrs. Ford helped me to become better. She is "The" professor to take. No matter what your skill level she defiantly either teach you or help you improve. She is funny and the lectures are very informative, I surely enjoyed this course; I think you will too so take the course. Also there is no book!

Take this class if you are not comfortable talking in front of people, I was terrified but it was not bad at all!! One of the best professors Ive had. She gives great feedback. Very clear on rubrics and what she expects. Best COM professor.

She is such a blast to have has a teacher. The way she teaches you to outline you speeches is amazing! Attendance isn't mandatory but if you skip, you miss lectures and in class impromptu speeches that she grades.

Ms. Ford is a great Professor and people should take her. She keeps it real and loves helping her students. Please attend every class because at the end, she will give you 15 points and that helps a lot when it comes to grading. She is a tough grader but will tell you what you are lacking.

Kerry is a hilariously straight forward professor, so don't take her if you can't handle some blunt criticism. She's one of the few professors that legitimately cares about improving your skills and as long as you take her feedback into consideration, you'll be fine. There are four speeches and two impromptu, she's good at telling if you BS them.

One of the funniest professors I have ever taken. No textbook is required, she provides everything in lecture and outline guidelines. She make you comfortable in class and provides great feedback on your speeches. Two test (midterm and final) which were super easy and four speeches (demo, two informative, and a research).

Kerry Ford have to be one of the best professor I had. I enjoyed her class so much. She is straight up to the point on what she wants on the speeches. She makes you go out of your comfort zone WHICH IS A GOOD THING. She gives great feedback for you to improve. If you need to take COM101, you need to choose her and you'll never regret it.

4 major speeches with outlines, 2 impromptu speeches, 1 midterm, and 1 final. I took the 4 week summer class and although it was condensed, it was easy. I like public speaking and this class helped me improve my ability overall. Kerry was a tough grader, but she definitely knows her stuff and pushes you to be the best speaker you can.

She is one tough grader, but you sure will walk out of that class as an improved public speaker. All questions must be asked in class and she answers every single one of them without fail. You won't pass with half-baked work because Kerry won't take any of it. Students are really supportive of one another, so don't be scared to show your colors.

Kerry Ford was by far the funniest and greatest teacher. I was very nervous about this class because i wasn't the best public speaker but i felt very comfotable around her and the class easy grader and very specific highly reccommend.

Best professor. She doesn't hold back on any part you did not do so well on so if you're easily offended find a different professor but everything she tells you is extremely beneficial and it helps with your public speaking capabilities as well as your overall confidence. No textbooks required, attendance not mandatory but extra credit for perfect.

You'll either love her or hate her, but she will make you a better speaker. Don't take her if you want to float through comm, but she's reasonable.

I am not a public speaker until she became my professor, she is hillarious and a fair grader, listen carefully when she gives you advices and when she corrects you, you will be okay for the rest of your speeches!

What a queen. Kerry is a sarcastic, funny, & amazing professor. I took her 4wk class. There were 4 prepared & 2 impromptus speeches. The course load was very manageable & her lectures won't put you to sleep. She gives great feedback & makes you feel comfortable if you're a nervous speaker. She's been doing this for 38 yrs so she knows her stuff

I took her 4wk class, she said "nice" is not the word to describe her but she's a really nice professor I actually learn how to organize the speech.

She's good but if you missed a class you won't pass especially if it's speech day

Kerry is a very fair and a very funny teacher. She is a real person, and its very easy to talk to her. Her class, however, is not for the sensitive snowflakes. And dont take her class if you wanna talk about Seattle, Kanye West, or Disneyland. I dont know why shes called mean. She aint nice, but shes still cool, like that one grandma we got.

Definetly a harsher teacher. But she's genuine and funny. You have to be there on your speech date or you will fail. In general, put an average amount of work in, memorize your speeches, and you'll likely get at a B. There are easier com teachers, but you probably will get a more sugarcoated experience.

I had previously taken Com online and i just couldn't get myself to do the video presentations. I took her class and it was so much better. She eases the nerves in class. Make sure you attend class she has lectures. She gives good feedback during presentations.

Hands on a great com professor. You need to participate to earn points. She is a tough grader but she wont dock you points for freezing. Test are not hard and no textbook. Super funny and only lectures heavy a few times. Show up to class on time, she hates when people come in late especially during speeches. 10/10 LOVE HER

There is an introduction speech, a demonstration speech, 2 impromptu speeches, an informative speech, a persuasive speech, a multiple choice midterm, and multiple choice final. For each speech, you can use 3 notecards with max 150 words total. You must do an outline for every speech. Notecards and outline are turned in after speech is given.

She's an honest person with a funny personality. As a sensitive person, I still enjoyed the class. There are 4 major speeches and 2 exams. The exams (super easy) don't weigh as much as the speeches, so showing up to your speech date is important. There's no textbook, the only thing you have to do is write your outlines and practice your speeches.

Even if her assignments are easy, your speeches heavily influence your final grade. Therefore, practice all of your speeches! I have nothing to complain. She is a real gem of a college professor. I did NOT find Professor Ford offensive or judgemental. She's hilarious & caring. I wonder if any of you can handle the real world if you find her mean.

She's judgmental and harsh, but fair. Its a hard class but if you pay attention and improve your speeches over time you will get better grades and grow. I liked hearing her stories and opinions, and if you follow the speech guidelines and practice you will do well.

Prof. Ford was very awesome this semester! She prerecorded lectures on PowerPoint and thoroughly explained how to prepare for speeches. All speeches (4) will be uploaded onto YT. It was very easy to communicate w/ her through email & she is very helpful. Prof Ford is a tough grader but all will be good as long as you follow the rubric she provides

Prof. Ford is amazing! Of all my online professors in the fall, she put in the most effort to make it accessible for us even though I think she wasn't that comfortable with the format. She gives amazing feedback and her blunt and direct style of communication is awesome as long as you're not a new college student who might be intimidated by it!

Professor Ford is a tough grader but she is very clear on what she wants to see from her students. She puts up PowerPoint presentations in the modules which is also what the mid-term and final are based on. She is understanding and very easy to reach if needed.

she's not mean or overly criticizing. the feedback I've gotten from her means so much because I've been taking note on how I deliver myself when speaking. however, she is very strict on how she wants your speech outlines completed & she has a bit of spelling & grammatical errors in the midterm which was hard to understand.

I took her for Com 101 last semester online course. Shes not mean and shes not strict but she does explain what she wants. She gives out daily reminders on when the videos are due, but she is strict on late work (no late work accepted) and HATES EXCUSES. She makes it clear on how she wants you to do the assignments.

Professor Ford was an amazing professor. Although she is a tough grader, she tells you how she expects the assignment or speech to be done. Her feedback in terms of her rubric is very helpful and you can definitely improve based off her feedback. Not many assignments or tests and this class was really laid back.

I took COM101 with this Professor over fall of 2022 at CSN. The class itself was not super difficult, and it was informative. She will give you her straight-forward input on your speeches (all speeches are uploaded to YouTube to be submitted) and she grades based on a rubric. She is not a tough grader, but an honest one. I valued that very much.

I took this class as an online course and there was four speeches throughout the entire semester. She gave good feedback to your speeches and stuff that she recommends you to do for the next speech. You have to upload your speeches to YouTube which takes forever so I recommend to do your assignment two to three days before it is due.

At first, I was intimidated by her grading, but then I learned this class isn't hard it's just very nitpicky and particular. Not a bad teacher, however, her grading method is a little lazy to me. Yes, she has a syllabus but she seems to be bothered by actually doing her job and answering relevant questions her students have for her.

Very strait forward class with step-by-step explanations for each speech, just do exactly what the outlines and lectures tell you to and you will pass. Also, all feedback is direct, and if you apply it to the next speech, you will do better.

I don't have too much to say, she was cool and didn't grade too hard and was pretty funny when giving feedback, easy class, would take her again.

She can be a tough grader. If you believe that she graded your work wrong, talk to her about it and she will go back review it, and will change it if she agrees with you. Generally only have one week to do the rough draft and submit the video of your speech. There is an audience requirement only for two speeches. Don't be afraid to talk to her!

Overall easy to understand coursework, you will have to be willing to follow the professors rubric in order to receive a positive result

Prof Ford is great! I took the online spring class. The lectures are PowerPoints you can download from canvas. There was a mid term & final based off the lectures. We did 4 speeches that we recorded and uploaded. Her lectures were funny and helpful. I do feel like I'm a better speech giver now! Lots of examples of speeches & outlines to help you.

I do not know why I saw a lot of negative ratings on this teacher - she is amazing! I struggle with public-speaking, but her lectures helped me so much, and they were pretty funny. Only thing I warn is I spent a lot of time doing work outside of class, but I also did a month course so go figure. All in all, I highly recommend her as a professor!
