Mr. Laird makes learning fun! Be prepared to study, read, and write. He has a great sense of humor and loves his work. His class is what you make of it. If you make an effort to study, do your homework, and use the resourse available such as himself and the writing center and you will pass!!!

Prior to taking Comp. 2 with Mr. Laird, I hated English, now I somewhat enjoy it. He is very helpful and really makes learning fun. He has a great sense of humor and always tries to get his students involved in class discussions. I highly recommend taking Prof. Laird!!

Laird is very into explaining the stories and poems that he interprets. English is not a good topic for me but he made it interesting.

I don't particularly like Literature, and have struggled with this subject. Professor Laird has a passion for Literature and makes learning the works of different writers a little easier. He does let everyone have their own opinion about what they thought they got out of the selection and that is appreciated.

I thought that he keep the lectures unbiased and he opens the topics for discussion and lets the students express their interpreations of the readings. Do the assigned readings so you can be involved in the discussions.

He?s an excellent teacher with a full command of the subject. He knows what works for students, he understands the mind set of his students and the capability of the class, so he makes the effort to map out whatever technique is necessary to help the class understand the material. He?s a fair professor. I enjoyed his instruction.

I learned tons and had alot of fun in the class. Overall the class was not too hard but you still had work for your grade

He's a good teacher all around. He's clear and not monotonous, and friendly which is always good. One bad thing about the class I'm in is that various students often get on long tangents...and it can be hard to get a word in, for discussion. But that may be more a problem with the students than the teacher. Overall I recommend him.

Mr. Laird is very relatable and provides quality interpretations with textual evidence that allows you to refer back to and grasp the concept. He is genuinely passsionate about his job, and I have a great deal of respect for him. He is also fun and doesn't keep a leash on his students although sometimes they need a muzzle. :)

Mr. Laird was a really interesting teacher. We had fun but we also learned a lot. He had an open forum class where we would talk about the material and discuss our different viewpoints on the topic. Sometimes it would get a little out of hand and he would have to intervene. All in all it was a great class and I really enjoyed it.

This professor was extreme laid back while maintaining the class on focus. He had a professional yet fun approach to the subject and although not overbearing, did make sure you got your work done to get a decent grade. His dates for assignments were almost all listed and with only the occasional quiz. It's your own fault if you miss though.

He assigns a lot of homework. Despite this, the student will come away that much smarter as a result of the greater challenge he presents.

Salacious, prurient, libidinous, & toothsome are much more accurate in describing his appeal. His tests are difficult, because of the specificity of the questions. If you are attempting to improve your writing, he will help. He is talented enough to challenge even the best writers. Expects the student to be somewhat autodidactic. Be motivated.

A lot of tedious work, but learn a lot. He is very thorough with each text. He assumes you already know stuff from Comp. I and II. Make sure to keep up with your reading; it makes the class easier. An overall great professor, interacts well with the class during lectures, he made the class enjoyable and easy but at the same time made sure we understood what he was teaching us.

Magister Laird (lol) is a great teacher. Normally English is pull-your-hair-out boring, but he adds his sense of humor and interaction to make it bearable, even enjoyable. If you don't read the text you will not pass. If you can't understand something he will see you in his office, after class, call or email. This class was hard, but I am a better writer for it. His jokes weren't for the pious children but made the adults of the class feel included.

I'm an English major and I have never learned more in an English class than I have in Mr. Laird's. Read the texts and work your a** off! It's worth it!

Normally I am fulltime student at UMHB, and I will admit that on the first day of this class I was overwhelmed. I actually considered dropping the course because it was a lot of hard work. However, I stayed because Magister Laird made the class fun and worthwhile. As long as the student is willing to work, Magister Laird will work with you.

The assignment had me digging deep inside for material. Lots of late nights and early mornings, but well worth the effort. He was very understanding and helpful as well as consistent with the level of work he expected. Fun class with lots of interaction.
