I am a very shy person in nature.I was very skeptic at the beginning to take this class.I took his class last fall in the Sunday morning. At the beginning,I was very nervous.After giving the first presentation,I gain more confident.I did really good in all my presentations and exams.If you follow his requirements,he is an easy A.I got A.He is good.

I love this professor. He's knowledgeable in his craft. We did exercises to boost our confidence- and wow did they work. May be a little scary for the shy but its only a matter of time before you break out of your shell. Great for getting out into the real world! Take his class!

one of the best professors I've ever had in my LIFE. he knows what he is doing in the class. you just need to pay attention, come to class, do all homeworks and assigments and you will get an A, but if you find excuses all the time for being unprepared don't expect a mirracle. he doesn't like people who make joke of this class. strongly recomended!

I took this class in summer 2007, Mr Ruff is passionate about his class. If you are shy you will find it hard, he tries hard to get people out of their shells and become great communicators. If you are shy it will be hard, but this class will help you with your communication skills

his class was hard if you go to his class and do what you have to do you will pass but if you slack off and not go you will end up with a bad grade like how i did

He is one of the best professors you'll find at BMCC. He listens to you and gives you every opportunity to succeed in his class. Do the work, come to class on time and listen to what he says. He wants you to get the A you just have to show him you deserve it.

Mr.Ruff is not easy prefosser if you dont like to speak like me it will be very hard to copmlete all assignments you need full attendence and fallow instructions how ever you will gain ability of public speaking and connection ,networking skill he is good professor ,and i know he is trying something good for you however yoou must do everything

Kerry Ruff is not an easy professor and speech is not as simple as I thought it would be. With that said, this was one of the best courses I have taken and I credit that to professor Ruff. These aren't skills to get you through school; these are skills for life. Get the book and read it; you'll need it for the midterm and final. Great job, Kerry.

Professor Ruff is a good guy. Great teacher and is willing to help you out. his assignments are not lame and if he sees that your working hard he'll give you the best grade possible. doesnt like lazy people, so work hard. teachers should take lessons from him!

OPEN YOUR FACE! Mr. Ruff is a funny teacher. There was quite a bit of work but it's really easy if you follow the instructions. Just a friendly reminder, you'll be moving in this class. Also, you'll hardly use the text but you'll somewhat "need" it for the midterms and finals. "Need" because most of the answers are in both of these exams are "True"

Prof Ruff is a great professor he makes the class fun and understands that a lot of people are afraid of public speaking and really gives useful techniques to use to get over your fear. You will not use the textbook a lot onli on your midterm and final. I highly recomended!!!!

As long as you put effort, go to class and read the text for exams you should do good in the class. Ruff was intimidating on the 1st day of class, but as the class went on, he became less intimidating. He really cares about you learning to communicated better, he gives you personal comments and encourages you, I liked that a lot. He is a good prof.

if u dont do your speech presentation l suggest you. dont take class from prof. ruff because u dont have a chance to pass the course. At the class he is very funny and helpfull. also he respect every student in his class.

Professor Ruff seems like a hard professor at first, but he is very helpful, and cares about his students. He gives a ton of extra credit so grab it!!! He is very smart and out spoken. He's a great speech professor. I really recommend him. At first I wasn't really sure if I can do presentations in his class. But he helped me learn many things about self confidence and being passionate. It's okay to make mistakes while presenting, even I stutter while presenting, also you can make jokes once in a while to loosen up the tense.

I took his class 5 years ago and was curious to read what others said about him. Im honestly shocked there are bad reviews. Until this very day I use one of his techniques I learned in the "power circle". What i learned in his class is simply invaluable. Take the class seriously, and you won't regret it!

I really enjoy professor Ruff. He's fair in everything he does. Bad comments on here are from people who don't take their work seriously... He's willing to gel pass everyone so the negative comments have to deal with people not showing up to class , not erasing the book , and not doing the speeches. He's amazing , take the class seriously.

The lessons learnt here stretches beyond the context of a normal speech lesson. He conduct the daily routine of exercise before he begins teaching that he labels as a "power circle". His exams are fairly easy and overall grades are not only based on texts but also how you choose to carry yourself up in times of difficulties when giving a speech.

He can seem intimidating at times, specially at the first time. He has a strong personality but if you want to change your life, the way this class did, then please take him, he is really helpful and he will motivate you and advice you on any topic. Of course his class routines like running around might seem corny but your confidence grows.

He's ok. Participation in classroom activities is part of your grade, so do them! Builds your confidence and you are sure to pass as long as you read.

GET HIM FOR SPEEECH! He is by far the best speech professor. WHy? well he breaks you out of your bubble. and encourages you to push the limits! Though his tasks are intimidating. it is definetly worth it!

I took Speech 100 in the summer and Prof. Ruff made it so easy to understand the work. He gave 4 presentations assignment and one exam. he basically gives you exactly what is going to be on the exam. most of the class time was just conversations. easy A

Prof. Ruff is by far the best speech professor anyone can have. His methods are extremely effective. So long as you take his class seriously, you will learn something more valuable than receiving the 'A' grade. He truly is a person that wants to teach, rather than just dictate. The class is very easy and you get to present topics that interest you.

Professor Ruff was the best college professor I've had so far! He makes you step out of your comfort zone to prepare you for the real world and the exercises really help. There is a lot of reading involved but the tests are simple. There were only 4 presentations in the entire semester and he gives great feedback.

Start college with this class if you are majoring in business. Do one of your presentations on a business topic. Pair business 101 and marketing, you can probably re-use one of your speech presentations for business class. Pick easy teachers for Business and marketing if you plan to pair them w/this class - Mr. Ruff will have you too busy.

If you have the opportunity to take his class, do it! He makes you work for your grade, thats for sure, but its work that benefits you in the long run. He really makes you think about what you want in your career and you have to make the effort. Sometimes he talks too much but it kills class time.

Amazing professor who brings the best out of you.

He was my professor for the first semester when I attended Bmcc. Had an A in his class but I really worked hard for it. Late night studying and researching.. Geeesh but at the end of the semester I learned something meaningful and aware of my passion. (be prepared to work and study for quiz)

Was a real wonderful class don't regret it at all. He can be a little tough, but you can do anything once you put your mind to it. Do exactly what he said and you sure will pass. He encourages you come closer to what your really passionate about and no other professor will encourage to feel better about yourself like he does.

I loved this class. Professor Ruff is very respectful of his students and wants his students to be respectful of themselves and those around them. He has expectations that one will find in the "real world", and his teaching style is preparation for once a student graduates to the working world. He believes in his students who believe in themselves.

The class isn't hard as long as you engage, study, and know what you want to do with your life, which is pretty much all he wants to help you with. Ruff is a professor that wants the best for his students, he makes the students get closer to their goal; and he pushes you to become a better person. There is no such thing as "no" or "I dont know" in this class, he will get a answer out of you lol. Just pay attention and do the readings along with all presentations.

He's a amazing professor, in the beginning quite intimidating. However, as he introduces himself you will learn so much about him, and supports all students when presenting. I still today take his advice when speaking in public, and techniques to present with confidence. Although its frightening presenting, you would not regret taking this class.

He's great and fantastic loved his speech class when I had him my first semester we started out on a bad start because i was always scared to speak up and speak in front of the class but he helped me conquer my fear and to let myself be heard. I love him he is the best teacher i've had so far this college experience.

He makes you work but it is not as hard that people make him out to be. I use to write my speeches the night before and still got praised at the end of my speeches. He likes it if you carry some notes in your hand to look prepared. Easy A if you are confident, have a paper in your hand, maintain eye-contact, and smile!

Great Professor

Hes the best professor I have ever had in BMCC,English is my second language and to be honest I always was so shy ,to present or to express myself in public and with professor RUFF ! Im not scared anymore. Dont be late ,attendance is everything. When its your turn to present do it ! He dont give second chances.

Best professor Ive had since Ive been a student in college. He honestly changed my whole mindset not only towards school, but life in general. He shows tough love which some students may not understand, but he truly cares about what he does and it shows. Just do what you have to do and youll easily pass. Youll become a better public speaker.

He makes us meditate everyday before class. Refers to himself as our Coach, rather than instructors, and class his students CEOs. Encourages students to chase there dreams and do what they love, also helps with stress and anxiety/fear management. Can be intimidating at first, but actually a cool guy.

Took him for the summer course. At first, he was a bit intimidating but he was alright. He makes you do the power circle every morning, which I found annoying. As long as you follow the outline and do your presentations with a good 'work' outfit he wont complain.

Great professor!!! Can change your life! You'll do what you love to do, create presentations based on your passion. If you don't know your passions yet it would your chance to find them and study you interesting in. If you don't like to improve yourself and just want to live as all others do, it would be difficult to succeed in this class.

Prof. Ruff may come off as intimidating at first. However, I suggest sticking around until the end of the semester as he will push you to become a better speaker and help you achieve your goals.

Professor Ruff comes off every strong but his work is clear as day you just have to be attentive. If you get intimidated easily dont take him. Be sure to practice all of your presentations beforehand and do the exercises he teaches you and you'll be set.

He starts off with a power circle which is physical movement, affirmations, and meditation. It feels a little awkward and weird at first. He's tough, but a nice guy as long as you do the assignments and present when asked. If you're extremely shy, I wouldn't recommend this class unless you really want to learn how to present.

Profesor K is not bad at all, his clases are that bad. There's worst out there, he's a professor and life coach. His assingments, are based on following direction and being yourself, meaning creative. I've learned how to be able to talk infront of millions, and life changing qualities in all stages of life. Professor K in speech 100, was a great experience. His class is pretty easy, watch video, discussion, midterm, and final. They are all related to speech, and the work is easy. He's available for Zoom calls if you don't understand something. He's there for you in email, to be able to respond too. Just do your work, and you will be fine.

Prof. Ruff is an amazing professor. Work load consists of weekly discussion boards accompanied by 4 oral speech projects. Very inspirational and activates your creativity. I always enjoyed his lectures. I will say, his words/questions are not for the weak-willed, he challenges his students to get them to THINK about their passion. Good mentor :)

Good Course. Good Professor. The key is reading all of his instructions carefully because it can be very easy to overlook some key points. Other than that the most difficult part of the course was the many takes I had to do when recording my videos because of my mistakes(bloopers). I would definitely recommend taking this course with Professor Ruff

Fun fact: you learn social media marketing and branding. And most speech classes don't have this in their syllabus. Read the instructions carefully and do the work, easy A. The videos that I did were about my career passion so it was easy.

He's kind of wild and old with the old methods, but at least the work is about your career passion, which is easy. I gained a good amount of confidence from his teachings and that's all he's asking for. Be proud of the things you're doing currently, so you can show that to him for a good grade.
