very nice guy, very helpful and seems to care about how you do in the class. but he goes into way too much detail (thus making it harder) for it to be just a principles class
The best teacher in the Finance department. Finance is not easy, you are going to have to study ALOT. But he explained everything very well and at a good pace and is always willing to help. Tests are not impossible, you just have to study. Don't miss a class.
He has a dry sense of humor and makes the class way to hard for a principles class. I feel bad for those students taking it that aren't finance majors. You MUST study all the time to do well. I have an A but I studied hard. Take another teacher if possible.
His class is really hard. He is a nice guy and explains things very well, but his class is ridiculously hard for a principles class. I would not suggest taking him, if you must take finance, and are not a fin. major, then take it elsewhere.
get out while you can he is terriable
The class itself presents very interesting materail; however, after the first exam, it is all down hill. If you go to him-he assist you some, but not much. He has an arrogant attitude about things & expects the students to be on his PHD level. Don't let this class turn you away from FINC-but Good Luc
His class is like a 1 year, $1000.00 zero coupon bond, being offered to you for $1.00!!!!
Best teacher at AU. Takes a very difficult subject and makes it easy. YOU HAVE TO GO TO CLASS OR YOU WILL BE LOST! The people on here complaining probably didnt go to class. If you have to take finance you better take Yost or you will regret it. I tried to take another teacher and had to drop.
If you are not a finance major do not take him. He gives good notes but they are not helpful when it comes to his tests. His tests are way to hard for a principles class. He isn't very helpful either. Don't take him.
Difficult teacher. Tests are hard, and he does not give them during the class time. Half of formulas we use he expects you to know, doesnt go over them in the notes. It is a very hard class.
MISERABLE!!!
I agree with everyone else that in his own little way he is trying to make things easy..but only for Finance majors. I found his nice demeanor very antagonizing when it came to asking for help...drop his class if you care about your grades and GPA!!!
Stop complaining. Jesus. Y'all probably didn't try very hard. Yes, his tests are kinda hard but if you study, you should be okay. Really you should get an A though cuz he gives about 10 extra credit points added to your final grade by the time the semester is over. Just don't fall behind.
Ignore the bad comments on here. Finance is a hard class, but it is not his fault the material is hard. Very helpful when students need it. Only problem is he makes his test harder than the practice problems.
If you are in his class get out of it. There is no way for a normal human to get anything out of that class. Don't listen to lies about him scaling at the end because he doesn't. Going to class won't help nor will going to his office.
He sucks....if you have him drop now!!!!!!! test and hw impossible. Not nice and dricks out of a sippy cup in class.
Ignore all the good comments because this guy is terrible!! He has his favorites!! The only way you can possible get an "A" in this class is to kiss his ass!!! He is a jerk! He will not help you.... and don't even think about getting help with your homework because he will accuse you of cheating and give you a zero!! HE SUCKS!!!
HORRIBLE TEACHER! Unless you kiss major ass YOU WILL FAIL THIS CLASS!!! Take Bertus...he's awesome!
He sucks at life... Do not take him... Never made below a B in college, he gave me a F
Dr. Yost is very helpful. Yes he is very boring but that is just the material. He is very helpful with homework if he sees you are trying and not just pumping him for answers the day before it is due. He gave plenty of extra credit.
He is a very helpful teacher. Don't listen to all the negative comments from the people who didn't even work the homework, and waited till the last minute to learn all of the material on this web site. He is a very good teacher and will put all the information in a undersandable form. JUST WORK ALL THE HOMEWORK!
You people are morons, that class was a joke, I missed a total of 3 questions between tests, HW, and the final, and with the extra credit easily ended up with over a 100 average in the class
Tough but very fair
Awesome teacher but the class is really hard
Easiest class. DO what he says and you will get an A. His examples are ones that you will see on the test. Be sure to complete all the suggested problems and read over your slides for the test. You get a formula sheet and a cheat sheet for the final. Easy A if you put forth the effort.
Dr. Yost is a very capable yet boring professor. I do not recommend taking this class during the summer. I did not do well because I did not put forth the required effort. This class made me change my major. If you go to class, study hard, and ask questions you should do well, unfortunately I lost interest.
He is a very nice guy. Do his suggested problems and go to him for help when needed. It is semi-tough, but he wants you to do good. Go to class, it helps alot and go over material thoroughly and you can do well.
Do the Homework and Suggested problems and extra credit. All three Extra Credits added together equal about 15 extra points on your grade. I would have made an A if i would have just done them. Make sure you go to class becuase it helps and it might help you get the couple more points at the end of the semeseter
I thought he was an awesome teacher. He was very helpful. Yes his class and tests are hard, but if you study and go to class you should be fine.
His tests are ridiculously too hard. I advise staying away. Nice guy...bad teacher.
If you value your GPA, you will steer clear of this guy! It doesn't matter if you go to class every day. His test are still very very hard!!! I went to class everyday and made an "F". Save yourself the trouble and skip this one. I can't believe I forced myself to laugh at all his lame jokes... Two thumbs wayyy down!
Super hard. Never put so much effort in a class and still managed to make my first D in college. I know a lot of people did well in the class but it just wouldnt work for me. Tests are very picky. The review problems he gives right before the tests will be on the test, know them like the back of your hand.
Very had tests, hardly any multiple choice. Lots of extra credit. Material is difficult, so definitely come to class. Great teacher, but a lot of work outside class is needed to get an A/B.
An amazing teacher! very fair! If you go to class and put in effort you will get a good grade. Very helpful and funny. Makes you actually want to understand finance and I changed my major because I liked his class so much!!
I am still recovering from this guys lame class. Test were way too hard, class was boring. I went everyday and still failed. I had another FINC teacher this semester. He was 100x better than this guy. Cliffs:Test are unfair. Class is lame. Teacher is lamer. He should think about early retirement!
Excellent teacher! He provides you with a ton of useful materials and explains things very clearly. The tests are kinda hard so make sure you study. Offers extra credit opportunities at the end of the semester.
Dr. Yost is the best teacher I've had at Auburn. He is difficult if you don't come to class, and study for the tests. However he does expalin the material very well and offers tons of extra credit. His old tests are similar to his new tests, so if you can find his old tests youll be good to go!
Great teacher. I would highly recommend this teacher. Go to class and it is much easier. Grading scale is very fair.
Best teacher ive had at Auburn! His class is challenging, but so is the course. He is always avail for help and encouraging! tests are hard, but go to class and you should be fine. He gives fair amount of extra credit, so if you screw up once theres still hope. DO THE EXCEL ASSIGNMENTS! I hope I have him again!
I was shocked at how easy Advanced Finance was this summer! I took this after Investments, Intermediate Acct and Statement Analysis and breezed through with an easy A. He is really easy to listen to and explains things very well. I would take this class again in a heartbeat!
hard teacher, test are very hard. You need to go to class. His podcasts are unbearable to listen to
Attendance isn't mandatory, but it can help you with extra credit. He is a good teacher and helps you in a lot of ways such as lots of EC opportunities, online podcast of the class, and fill in the blank notes with examples. Class is tough but with a good amount of effort it's not too bad. I bombed the first test and still got a B.
Relatively difficult exams. Extremely boring class; I struggled to stay awake. Essentially you just play with a calculator all class and all exam. Final was very difficult. Class is lame...do practice problems as they closely resemble exam material. Teacher is alright, material is lame. A lot of people failed I got an A good luck to u guys.
Great Professor. Yost is a challenging task master to be sure, but you will learn a great deal more in his classes than others. Yost is very well organized and very prepared for class each day. I learned a ton in this course.
Adv Finc was a tough class with Yost. He is a pretty difficult teacher. I learned a lot. Watch out for his tests. Most thorough tests I have ever seen. He does go over all the material needed for them, but they are really really thorough.
Good teacher, keeps things interesting. STUDY the practice problems.
Fantastic professor, went into class with 0 interest in Finance, came out with 1 of my double majors being finance. explains crystal clear, very helpful, and if you put forth the effort class is not hard. you have to do your homework, but guess what, welcome to college. Buy the book, go to class, do homework, and go to him for help. A+++
Great teacher he goes really fast but will do whatever he can to help you. He created a Facebook group to help us study. I really enjoyed the class even as a non finance major.
Great professor and very passionate about finance and helping students. Explains material very well, but you have to put the time into the class - it's not easy! Attendance not mandatory, but he takes it into consideration at end of year. He reminds me a lot of a cartoon character but he's such a good teacher and really cares!
Yost really knows what he's teaching, and loves both teaching, and finance. He works so hard to ensure all students have the ability to make an A. You get what you put into this course. Study and do practice problems. PAY ATTENTION in class. Watch podcasts if you happen to miss class... :)
It was a hard class but by going to class and doing (and understanding!!) the problems, it is easy to understand. He lets you have an entire page cheat sheet! If you are a finance major you should take him!
Dr. Yost is a great teacher. He explains all of the material very clearly and thoroughly. He allows you to have a "cheat sheet" for each test. His test are about 50% conceptual/50% computational. I would recommend taking Dr. Yost.
Take Dr. Yost. Yes, it's a hard class. It's Advanced Business Finance, of course it's gonna be a bit difficult. Dr. Yost is the bomb though. Everything on the tests you learn in class, so the book is optional (though it has problems in the back). If you miss class or don't pay attention, all classes are recorded in podcasts. Dr. Yost rocks, take it
The class should be titled: How to teach a class in 2012. Dr. Yost podcasts every lecture so even if you miss a day, the entire lecture is available to you on his website. Its even screen captured so you see everything he writes. He's also very willing to help and easy to talk to. Oh and the textbook is optional. I HIGHLY recommend him for 3630
One of the best professors I have had at Auburn! This is a difficult class, but Yost makes the material easy to understand and makes the classes engaging, even at 9:00 am. I highly recommend buying the Course Packet ($8 at the bookstore), because it has all of his notes/reviews. Study hard, use the podcasts for reference, and go to class!
Love Mr. Yost! Took him at 8am, so it was a struggle being there early in the morning, but he made the material SO much easier. I was scared going into finance because I heard the bad stories about it, but Yost made it so much easier. I actually enjoyed the class. GO TO CLASS, and do the suggested problems, and you'll do well!
Professor Yost is fantastic. The material is hard, and there is a lot to learn, but he is enthusiastic and covers everything very well. It wasn't easy, and took a lot of studying, but is totally manageable. Go out of your way to take his classes.
Just do everything he says that will be on the test, and you'll have no problem
Overall, he's a good teacher and would take him again. His lectures last the entire class period, which I think is overkill if it's everyday. He's interesting to listen to and gives all his notes in a packet you can buy at the bookstore. Show up to class or be good about watching the podcasts, otherwise you will miss too much info.
This class was hard! Exams are short answer. His grading is the biggest issue. He grades very subjectively and he will deduct an insane amount of points for small mistakes and errors. Id avoid this class
Exam's which he calls party's are tough, but he will prepare you and gives several opportunities to ask questions and go to office hours if you have further questions.
He complicates and unfairly scores tests. Definitely way more difficult than the class should be. Stay away at all costs! He teaches the class like it's a graduate level class, not a basic 3000 level.
A little bit tough, but extremely fair. Do the homework problems, they were very reflective of the test. Ask questions, he's very happy to help. He goes out of his way to NOT use the most current edition of texts because he knows that books are a scam, which is nice. I'd definitely take him again.
I was very excited to take his mergers and acquisitions class. TOTAL DISAPPOINTMENT! Insanely boring take on a very exciting subject. He went through very little effort preparing this course. Its like he copy and pasted the headings in the book to PowerPoint and has no other insight into the world of M&A. I did enjoy the guest speakers immensely.
Teach like graduate level... Don't give extra credit and you are 3 exams very tough. Don't waste your time with him because He will down your GPA.
To the person who said he doesn't give extra credit... Um yeah he does... He gives an extra credit question in each test and he gave us a 10 point extra credit quiz with each point adding to our final grade. Difficult class, but not impossible with effort. I feel like I really understand the course and material. Podcasts for when you miss class too
He seems like nice guy and he is willing to help students. However, he does not have any business world experience. I think his teaching style shows it. Grades are based on tests with picky definitions and endless meaningless calculations - no projects. You have to rely on his power point slides (not the book)Its problem if you learn by reading.
3 tests are the only grades. Fail one, good luck bud. Offers 10 pt bonus quiz toward end of semester, where every pt earned is added onto final grade. GO TO CLASS or have someone sign you in. He'll bump you up at the end if he sees you had good attendance. Do the practice problems he assigns. Know how to use calc. Make a GOOD cheat sheet!!
He's a great guy - super nice and extremely helpful when needed. He's a tough grader though and tests can be hard. Explain yourself on the test! Sometimes he will take that into account.
Avoid. Lacks the communication skills to effectively help students learn and succeed. To do well in this class you must put in an incredible amount of time working monotonous problems that are not relevant to actual real life situations. He merely reads of powerpoints in class and works problems at a pace that is not conducive to learning.
Dr. Yost is a good speaker; he is loud, speaks clearly, and is very to the point. Class is not the easiest, but he will make sure and emphasize what is important and what will be on the test. Go to class/Follow lectures and you will do well and learn a lot. He is also very devoted to his students and willing to put in extra time to help .
Dr. Yost is an incredible teacher. The classes he teaches are tough and there is a lot of material, but I've learned more in his classes than anyone else. DONT SKIP. And go to his office hours of you need help, he appreciates it.
Awesome Professor!
Dr. Yost was one of the best professors that I have had. He is very organized, which makes everything easy to follow. All test material is from lectures and powerpoints. Do not need the book. I read the chapters for the first test and didn't pick up the book for the rest of semester. Flexible grader and fair.
Love Dr. Yost! posts all his lectures online with video so I never went to class. He lets you have a full page cheat sheet on all tests and a two pages cheat sheet on final. I never opened the textbook though suggested problems are from textbook. I never did any. His lecture and notes are very thorough. I would take him again if I needed to.
Only reads off slides and mundanely works through problems in class. Rather lackluster. Unfair grader in my experience; would often say that there would be a curve, or that partial credit would be given and then would not follow through. Does put videos of class online which is very helpful.
After having Dr. Yost for Principles of Finance, I changed my major to Finance. I really loved this class and Yost! He is pretty funny and he teaches the material well. Print or buy (from bookstore) his packet of class notes for the semester, go to class, take GOOD notes on the notes packet. Really understand the concepts and you'll be fine.
Dr. Yost takes a very difficult topic and breaks it down into simple steps for his students. He really cares about his students' success. Go to his office hours if you need help! Do the assigned practice problems in the textbooks! His tests are difficult. He makes sure you really know how to use the material you learned. Would recommend him.
By far the hardest finance teacher. You have three test and they are all very difficult. He will never let you out more than 30 seconds early. Do no take this class save your self now!!
Dr. Yost was my welcome to the MBA program at Auburn. He is a incredibly adept teacher who is great to learn. This is one of the harder courses in the program, but he will make it enjoyable and interesting.
Dr. Yost is one of the best professors I've ever had. If you're a finance major, TAKE HIM. It will help you in the future. Any poor report about him on here is just because the material is difficult and some students don't want to work for it, but he teaches it better than anyone else could.
Dr. Yost isn't the easiest professor, but he certainly provides the resources to easily get an A. He covers a lot in class, but is very thorough in each step. If you get lower than a B in this class it is your fault for not trying.
Great professor but makes test way to hard and the only grades are his test. Only extra credit are quizzes and they are hard too.
Yost cares about his students and makes very difficult material easier to understand. I think Yost is one of the best professors in the College of Business! Highly recommend.
This was my 2nd time to take Finance here at Auburn and my 1st time with Yost. Yost is the best finance professor at Auburn in my opinion. He really cares about his students and their performance. There is no easy professor for this class but Yost is the best choice. Buy the Course Packet, Work the PP's, & GO TO CLASS! If you do, you'll pass.
Dr Yost is the best. He's funny and makes the material much easier to understand. I took the class in a mini-mester and got a 104 in the class. Work all the recommended homework problems, rework the class practice problems, and study every day. His exams are identical to his material. Study for the daily quizzes because you get lots of extra credit
I took this class online and it was tough.
Dr. Yost is a fantastic professor. Test heavy, but nothing on the tests are unreasonable/unexpected. Great lectures. Very concise with great explanations. His transitions between topics are buffered by entertaining survey questions, which is ingenious. Go to class; lectures are pertinent for success. Wish I could take him for every class.
This professor is on some sort of power surge. He makes his test absolutely impossible for an online class and the review does absolutely nothing for you. Stay away from this guy because he will only tank your grade.
Daily quizzes are counted as an entire grade level of extra credit. Go to class!!!
Took him for an online class this summer and 90% of the class grade was based on 3 tests. Assignments were easy and straightforward, tests were hard, but not impossible. Just have to watch lecture videos (go to class) and study a few hours the two or three days leading up to each test.
Fantastic professor. Class is extremely organized and straightforward. He records his lectures so you can rewatch. He gives daily quiz questions as extra credit. He goes out of his way to help his students and is always available for help. The class is tough, but not impossible. Yost gives you daily opportunities to boost your grade, so go to class
I am not a math person and was terrified of finance, but surprisingly did great in this class. I missed class a lot and it would have been easier if I went but I did manage! He is so caring and great at explaining. The extra credit he offers for going to class is so worth it it bumped my overall grade 6 points!
He is a great professor. Cares greatly for his students and wants to be fair on all his tests. He provides tons of resources to study and gives SO much bonus! Tests are harder, but if you go to class and study you will be fine. 10/10 recommend- he is a great guy!
Personally, he's a favorite. However, his tests are very difficult and you have to put a lot of work/studying into this class to pass. Always answers your questions and replies back quickly. Is very specific on what to study for exam.
Dr. Yost is really a great professor and he cares for his students. You have to put in time to study but his tests are very doable and you will learn a lot. This class has concepts which are applicable and Dr Yost knows his stuff and can make it easier to understand. Also he gives a ton of extra credit and puts a lot of effort into his lectures.
Give extra quizzes but test are heavy. No full notes but give records
Dr. Yost is absolutely the best professor at auburn for FINC 3610! He really cares about his students, and if you go to class and do the extra credit quizzes (worth a whole letter grade at the end of the year) his class is so easy.
Professor Yost makes hard material make sense. With that being said, if you take in FINC 3630 class also, do not expect the level of extra credit you received in 3610. I still recommend him for both classes, but for 3630, there is little extra credit and be prepared to know what you're doing, because very few test questions are multiple choice.
Prof. Yost sells a packet of all of his notes and this is VITAL to pass. Just write down examples about each topic and you'll be fine. You get 1 sided cheat sheets for normal exams and 2-sided for the final, so there's no reason not to pass. He also does daily quizzes that can add up to 10 points on your final grade.
Great professor. Second time taking FINC 3610 and I took him in the summer minimester and he was great. Most people prefer Tracy Richard for this class but I'd say Yost explained everything a lot better. Just go to class and do the homework and you should get a B fairly easily.
Dr. Yost is the best Finance Professor you can take. The class is fairly difficult subject material, however he makes it easy to understand and do well in, If you take the time to go to his office hours and study in between tests. Plus, the daily quizzes are worth 10 points on your final grade, which helps a lot. Easy to get over 100% in the class.
I don't know why Professor Yost doesn't have a higher rating. He outlines his lectures and notes well so you know exactly what is going to be on the tests. He provides pop quizzes every day that can bring you up a whole letter grade. It's a difficult subject, but he teaches at a considerate pace & takes multiple surveys during semester for feedback
I would not recommend taking this class unless you are an amazing student. I am not a good test taker and the only grades you receive in here are based off of 3 tests. you get extra credit from questions based on last lecture but if you dont understand the last lecture because he goes so fast and doesnt explain everything you wont get the points
Yost is incredibly caring and wants every student to do well in his class. That being said, the entire class is based on 3 test grades. If you don't test well or aren't great at finance, your grade suffers because there are no other opportunities to pull your grade up from mediocre test scores. Requires a lot of outside work beyond the lectures.
I have mixed feelings. He does provide you with up to 10 full points of EC (so you could go from a B to an A just by that. it'll save you) however it's only tests, no other assignments. You HAVE TO attend class or you will be lost by even missing one day. He also doesn't give his classes a full formula sheet or cheat sheet as other professors do.
You are literally graded on 3 tests that are 30ish questions and that is it. The final is worth 40% of your grade and is cumulative. He gives extra credit quizzes every class, but he gives you 2 minutes per problem and the math problems take way longer than that and the conceptual questions are impossible. You are set up for failure
Dr. Yost class is not easy as the material can be difficult, however, he is a great lecturer and he holds review sessions every week in case you have trouble in the class. Great professor, I would sign up for any class he teaches.
Class is only 100 total points. 3 exams, first two are 30 points and the final is 40 points. You can earn 10 extra points, so a whole letter grade through extra credit quizzes, but they're very tough with little time. Would look elsewhere for a FINC3610 prof.
Difficult subject but Dr Yost is awesome. Any poor reviews are most likely by people who did not want to put in the time. Only 3 tests to make up the grade so make sure you work the homework and attend the review sessions.
Principles of Finance is a very hard class in general and motivated students who can teach themselves or put 20 hours/week of studying in can easily pass his class. If that is not you, i would recommend someone else because Yost does not explain things the best and he will only walk through the simplest problems in class while tests are very hard.
Professor Yost is very passionate about finance but it's an unnecessarily difficult class for non finance majors. He tries to trick you on ec quizzes & tests when the material is hard enough as is. I've done every problem & attended every class but still can't make above an 80% on the tests which make up your entire grade. Could find an easier prof
One of the best professors I've ever had! Cares about his students and their success. Provides ample opportunity to improve whether it's meeting during office hours, attending weekly review, or end of semester reviews for finals. Highly recommend (especially without a Finance background)!
One of my favorite teachers I have taken at Auburn. Makes the material clear cut and make sense, and tells you what is needed on each test. Go to class, do well on the quizzes at start of class and it helps alot with bonus. Only 3 grades for the whole semester, test 1, test 2, and exam. So don't fail one like I did....
The entire class in 100 points spread over 3 tests. So you have to go to class if you want a high grade because he gives about 10 extra credit points from answering quiz questions at the start. It is challenging but if you study and do the suggested problems it is not impossible. Just go to class!
This is the toughest class I've taken at Auburn in my 3 years so far. Your grade consists of 3 tests. The lectures cover the material as well as 1 or 2 easy examples that will give you a false sense of confidence on the material so beware. The tests are pretty unreasonable and require you to put in many hours of studying and practice problems.
As a person, Yost is a nice and caring guy. He is always willing to help, so take advantage of office hours. This class is easily the hardest of all the other finance teachers offered, so beware. Don't just try and understand the course packet problems, do the ones in the text book as well because they are harder and the tests are hard like those
Dr. Yost is one of the best professors I have had in my academic career. He really cares about the material and is incredibly knowledgable. He has high expectations of graduate students working outside of the classroom and is right to do so. You will have to listen to lectures multiple times and continuously work the homework, but wonderful teacher
Extremely difficult exams which are the only grades in the class. He's shown no compassion towards students when it comes to tests. He's even joked about purposefully confusing us on the exams and certainly does. He seems to enjoy making the exams as difficult as possible. Definitely would not take again.
Dr. Yost is very knowledgeable and if you ask for help, he will clarify things. However, his class is based off 3 exams that he is ACTIVELY trying to trick you on, he even says this! He gives you practice problems to practice on that make you feel like you know what you're doing, then his tests are nothing like what was taught. Avoid his class.
Similar to others,Yost thrives on tricking you on tests. Used recycled lecture videos with outdated material. Never relates content back to real life material or companies. An example is the recent unprecedented interest rate hikes and he sent 1 article and never discussed. No impact on how it may affect Capital Structure.disappointing and lazy
Currently writing this in my FINC 3630 class. Dr. Yost is extremely difficult but if you put in the work (show up to class, do the homework, and go to office hours) you will do well. He is tough but a great teacher. The way he teaches formulas and how to use the calculator are much easier than what will be taught in 3630. All in all he is great!
The grade for the class is completely based upon three tests. The professor continually talks about doing practice problems, but the amount of practice problems is limited to not many problems. His tests are designed to be very tricky and the problems are designed to present the material in a manner not covered in class.
As other students have said, he actively tries to trick you on tests. Doesn't allow notes into the test, which as a professional with 10 years experience, seems like a silly way to run things. In your professional life you will always have access to reference materials. Nothing in the real world is a closed note test. AVOID.
Dr. Yost presented the material very well. However, he gives students a false sense of confidence when it comes to understanding the material because when you open up the exams - the questions are presented in a way that seems very different and unlike any of the practice problems in the book or the examples that he's worked through in class.
Study Abroad Finance with Yost is not an easy class. 3 weeks to learn all the material and he does not shorten this at all or accommodate for the shorten schedule, however, he actually does try his best to teach you during class and wants you to learn the material. You will feel like you earned a good grade because he makes you work for it.
Took this abroad so we had 3 weeks to learn entire material. Honestly Dr Yost is super clear about what he expects. A lot of these reviews are from angry freshman that went out to the clubs and got mad that this class wasn't an easy A. organized and makes great use of his iPad/computer. Exams are tough but nothing you haven't seen in lecture
Very passionate about the material, and knows how to go in-depth in the right way. Made the class very educational. He let us use cheat sheets that we created on the tests which helped a lot. Took the class while studying abroad and he did a great job letting us balance class and our adventures. Does take focus and time to study. 10/10 professor.
Dr. Yost has become my favorite professor ever. Stay on top of the course work and always, always do the problems at the end of each module. Take good notes, as he allows any notes to be used in the exams. 3 exams make up the score for online students. You will have to put a good amount of effort to pass this class, but if I can pass, so can you!
Dr. Yost was a great professor. His class was only three test grades. The tests were somewhat difficult but very fair. There are no questions that you can't do based off what he goes over in class. As long as you pay attention and do the end of notes problems, you should be fine.
Dr. Yost is a great professor. The course was difficult for me, but Dr. Yost kept himself available for more than 4 individual sessions throughout the semester. Despite getting a C, I would 100% recommend Dr. Yost to anyone who has a decision to make between him and another professor.
Very difficult class but Dr. Yost was an excellent professor who was well-organized and presented information clearly. Buy the course printout from the bookstore, work practice problems, and you should be okay.
Dr Yost and Professor MacIntosh were both amazing! The class was fairly challenging and I do not think I would recommend taking another class along with this class if you can. The tests were open note but, you do not have time to flip through all of your notes while taking the exams. Overall, I am so appreciative of Dr Yost and Dr MacIntosh
Taking on study abroad and is SO easy!!! Definitely take!!
do not take this class he's so boring literally impossible to listen to for more than a half hour all he does is stand there and listen to himself talk
Dr. Yost is a good teacher and he does want his students to do well. Finance can be hard for some people to grasp but I would say he does a decent job of explaining it and making it understandable. Do all the practice problems that he recommends and you should be fine for the math portion of the exams. Beware of the conceptual questions though.
This is the base finance class for the graduate program. Dr. Yost lectures on a tough class. Prepare to work. The tests require you be prepared to perform the calculations. The tests are open note, but you likely will not have enough time to flip through them. Do the practice problems, then do them again.
Amazing at teaching the math behind finance, but doesn't have much real world experience since he went straight to teaching right after college, so there's a little bit of disconnect there. Overall very passionate teacher.
