Do professors not get audited by faculty.. or by literally anyone? The TAs/IC tutors AND OTHER OCHEM PROFS all have said that the material is too advanced for our level and prof is VERY unreasonable. To be successful you have to sacrifice your mental health and all your free time (I'm being serious). Hardest/worst class taken at UW as a stem maj).

This man literally does not get it. He rambles on for the whole lecture time and reads off his slides. An absurd amount of hw. The first test WAS 13 PAGES, and he sent an email a few hours before to say what was on it. I have never disliked a professor so quickly and everyone is confused.

You will loss your confidence and enthusiasm in Chemistry by taking his exams. He wrote extremely long and hard exams, lots of homework, and assign reading quiz at every single lecture. 90% of the questions on exams are uncovered in lecture, you will have to learn every thing on your own. The content he teaches are heavier than other chem professor

So many words. Wrote an 8 page paper explaining why the exam averages are between 30-40 percent instead of listening to critiques. A perfect score is unobtainable on exams and we are not given the same sheet of key IR numbers the rest of the organic chemistry department gives students for exams. Overall not the vibe you will cry probably.

Prof. Bartlett speeds through content heavy lectures, gives more detail than is tested on, and loves to ramble. That being said, he makes himself incredibly accessible: responds to emails, holds office hours until there are no remaining questions, offers a generous exam curve, and provides ample resources for practicing content application.

insane standards. he doesn't accept criticism, instead he insists that exams aren't that difficult bc he could do them. so much time, energy, and money spent on this class for nothing. don't do it to yourself. just wait for a qtr where someone else is teaching.

He has taken people's feedback and his exam are more reasonable in length now. You get tested only on what you see on his worksheets, he can get creative and twist some exercises but must of the time if you do his worksheets at least 2 times and are organized keeping up with all the reactions you will do well. He is very helpful and supportive.

Exams are extremely difficult and long, with averages of around 40%. To get an A or even a good grade, you need to put a lot of work into knowing all the content, which is already too much, and knowing how to solve problems super fast. While he is passionate about teaching, this class is stressful and requires too much work for a 4-credit course.

While Prof. Bartlett is enthusiastic about chemistry and is really nice, his exams are quite difficult and very long, with really low exam averages and most students having to leave multiple questions blank. To succeed in his classes, you must understand what he wants you to know, which is basically memorizing everything on the lecture slides.

This class is hard no matter who your professor is. He gave extra credit questions on quizzes that are super easy to get (up to 3% of your grade) that's added after the curve. Very generous with exam regrades. Lots of freebie points for effort. Explains things in an understandable and memorable way. Very high standards and very kind.

Lectures are just basically him reading slides that are copied from the textbook. He goes very fast and still does not cover the material he has planned because there is just so much of it. Homework is graded on effort which is nice, but it is not very helpful for learning the material. Most of the lectures get finished in office hours.

Worst professor I've had at UW. Went through material way too fast for anyone to grasp, did not explain major ideas in the course, never worked through examples in class. Have to work really hard to pass the class. The final had material that he said would not be on it. I know it's a hard class but he made it so much worse.

Kevin Bartlett is a GEM of a professor. Org chem is just a hard curriculum. He is by far the most intelligent and caring professor I have ever had, and I'm a junior at UW. He offered office hours after every lecture, regrades ALL exam regrades himself, and curved both the exams and final gpa of the class. You just HAVE to put in time and effort.
