he's a great guy, really knows his stuff, and loves it. He's a great teacher
hard tests
Excellent teacher...knows his stuff...take notes and u will be fine
Clear, Concise, and incredibly knowledgable. Strongly recommend.
He explains exactly what he wants and if you do exactly what he explains, you'll be fine. He makes history as interesting as possible... I had his 8am class and I always stayed awake, even though I'm definitely NOT a morning person.
Had him for 101 and 102. Makes history interesting. Very knowledgable and funny. Tests are hard but he helps you out on the essays but letting you list what you know in outline form if you run out of time.
real easy - his tests are multiple choice and mapping (real easy). only hard part was easy, but if you can really just bull**** that. makes lecture interesting. i had him during the winter term (3 hrs everyday) and i was never bored
He's so into what he does and he's really sincere.
Loves what he teaches and really knows his ****. Great guy though, I'd recommend him.
easy ... powerpoint notes and term lists on the internet .. .not sure about his attendance policy though
He made me feel like crap, likes to embarrass his students
The BEST! Just take notes on his lecture and skim the book and you will do fine. His tests aren't as hard as he makes them out to be, and you don't have to finish the essay. If you have a question, just ask him and he will do anything he can to help.
Awesome, I have never understood notes any better then I understand his. All you have to do is listen to his lectures, he knows his ****, and if you take notes you are guaranteed a good grade on tests. highly reccomended!
He is so funny and cool too. His class can be a bit boring at times but he explains things very thoroughly.
Can't get a better college professor. HIGHLY recommended. Tests are easier than he tells you they are, his class isnt very boring, gives great lectures, keeps you interested. A++
Went into the class hating history, came out thinking it was my best class. He is awesome, best teacher I could possibly imagine. I will be attending his 102 class for sure. HIGHLY RECOMMEND! I must iterate that to convey it properly.. HIGHLY RECOMMEND.
my favorite teacher ever! i used to hate history and now i plan to minor in it. class is fairly easy but u still learn a lot. get him for history definately!
Very organized, upbeat - I usually can't stand history but this class was excellent
One of the best teachers at SU. Makes history actually sound interesting. The term list he puts on the web is exactly what's on the test...very helpful. GREAT teacher, very chearful, highly recomended
Mr. Birch is a great instructor. He is well-organized, offers a clear presentation of the material, and has a high level of enthusiasm for both the subject matter and the act of teaching it.
He's an amazing professor who really loves to teach.
He is honestly the best professor ever. He is nice and very straight forward. He really knows what he is talking about and makes his classes intresting.
Great teacher, very easy to take notes from his lectures. Tests are easy as long as you come to class and pay attention
He is a good lecturer and puts up power point for you to read. There is one essay project that isn't too bad. Tests however are 60 mult. choice and an essay in 50min classtime, this is hard to do and a lot of info is covered on test. Wont fall asleep
Birch is a great teacher. He keeps you on the edge of your seat while teaching. This was a great class to go to at 8 and begin your day. History now is one of my favorite subjects. I enjoyed his teaching style and his goofy jokes!
It's refreshing to have a professor as passionate as he is about the course material. Tests are easy if you know the term list. Essay assignment is a little hard though. Definitely one of my best history teachers ever.
Mr. Birch is the best! He loves history, loves to teach, is helpful and has a great sense of humor. You have to study for the tests but they aren't too bad, and if you follow the directions his essay assignment isn't too hard either.

He's so into history he'll make you love it.
men, he is one of the best teachers i have ever took. i hate histroy to death but he made it so intersting, his test are easy. take him.
Hard to tell weather he is joking or not and seems to in to weird subject. Definately will break you into school. Ok if you get him.
Though I feel that he is passionate about the subject he teaches, he has a tendancy to call out students, making himself look superior. I don't think he considers how he has the ability to make his students feel like they are inferior.
i really liked him and he was very helpful
I really liked this class... very cool teacher!
He is a great teacher! The tests may be a little hard but of course if you study for them you should do fine! Nice guy, tries to get you to laugh. Willing to take rough drafts of the project to grade to help you out. Overall great professor. You should take this class with him.
i did not like him, but the class was ok
Awesome teacher his test are right from class, you just study the terms and you'll get an "A" on every test
You have three tests, the final being the easiest of all. He really does want you to succeed. Good teacher, clear and concise.
Great teacher. Makes a very uninteresting subject a little better, especially early in the morning. He adds humor to keep you awake and keeps the lights off. Expects a lot, but grades very fair. Would take him again given the chance.
He's a great/funny teacher. If you like History you'll love him. His tests are so easy, i remembered on one of his test one of the answer choices was spongebob lol.
I liked him enough in 101 to take him again for 102...He makes history interesting and he's very understanding. I overslept by 3 hrs. the day the term paper was due, and he still let me hand it in.
He's a great teacher n he really knows his stuff. It's not an extremely easy class but definately take him if you can, you will learn a lot.
He rules man. Get him; he is the coolest most laid back teacher ever. Just don't fall asleep in his class. The paper is pretty big, and the tests are usually M/C,T/F, and a big essay. Know yur @#$%.
the period we were talking about COULD have been interesting, but he'd go on tangents like no other. and the time period wasn't layed out for us, we kinda muddled through it, without a really clear understanding on it. He grades papers based on grammer rather than content, in the big paper he took off two points for smudged ink. don't take him.
Lots of work, but it is an honors class, grades hard but again its an honors class, interesting discussion if you prepare, learned alot
Most enthusiastic teacher at Salisbury and super hott! His tests are some of the hardest things I've ever taken, but there are definitely A's for effort. His class is almost like the telling of a very long and awesome story over a semester period. He's awe
very enthusiastic...and very good looking.
hes the most interesting history teacher ive ever had!!! hes soo helpfull, stays on topic but in a fun way! i would take more classes with him !

Delightful! Lots of info that you can learn if you want, but you can also slack and do O.K.
Very easy to get along with and willing to help you succeed. Pushes you to be your best, lectures are very interesting and attention holding.
This class was hard, but fun. If it wasn't at 8 am, I would really really like it. He's excited about what he's teaching, and he really knows his stuff!! tough essays, take lots of notes/do a lot of reading...and it's worth it.
The best history teacher ever. He is a very intelligent man who is interested in what he is teaching. He gets the best out of his students and wants you to succeed. The paper is challenging but not impossible. I would take more clasess with him.
One of the best teachers on campus. I've had him for other upper level classes and I can't get enough! I'm graduating and wanted to cry when I walked out of his class for the last time. Watch out though...his cats can be mischievous.
One of the best teachers I have ever had. Very enthusiastic and knows his stuff. tests are straight from the notes, if you go to class they are not bad. Trys to make history bearable for everyone.
This class was a lot of fun to go to. Birch is a really good lecturer. Tests are beasty and attendance is manditory but you only have three grades in the whole class. Really nice guy, energetic and fun to listen to.
The BEST history teacher! He tries to psych you out by telling you how hard it's going to be, but it's really easy. You have four grades - three tests and a paper - besides the final (which is sooo easy!) Take him!
Awesome teacher. If you hate history, like me, he is probably the best person to take. He is excited about what he teaches and knows the material very well. Great teacher, tests are easy! Paper is the only hard part of the class.
It's not like your average history class, he expects you to know visuals that he uses during his power points, what is this archeology? Tests are all ID's + essay, you usually won't finish in time so just speed through the ID's.
Roman History was really great; even if you're not into history, Birch makes the lectures fun.
he is a GREAT professor, I would recommend him to anyone tests are fairly easy but you do have to write an essay. I took him for 102 and made sure I had him for 101 also. makes silly jokes but really knows what hes talking about
great professor! keeps your interest and is very passionate about what he's teaching! his tests were a bit tricky but if you study the terms and the maps you'll do fine! don't blow the paper off until the last minute. if you give him a rough draft he'll look over it for you and tell you things to add, take out, and just make your paper better.
Easy Class! I hate history and I'm lazy and got an A for 101 and 102! The tests are cake, he lets out early and cancels class often.
Professor Birch is by far one of the best professors SU has to offer and he's definitely my favorite. His exams are difficult but not impossible and his lectures are truly captivating.
I personally do not enjoy history, however I really enjoyed Birch's class. He was very enthusiastic about the material, and made it very clear to understand. He is a Roman historian and just from taking this class I can see that any of his Roman History classes would be awesome to go to. Made all expectations very clear.
He was a good teacher but the material is hard. I hate history but I didn't really mind going to his classes. His powerpoints are very detailed and help alot. His tests are hard and he has one big paper that is pretty hard too. His class held my attention though so it wasn't bad to go to.
Mr. Birch is one of the most intelligent and interesting professors SU has to offer. He makes history fun! I like !
Going in to history was just mandatory but Birch actually makes the class VERY interesting. I really loved going to listen to him, very in to what he is teaching and uses inflections to keep you involved and awake. Three tests with somewhat difficult essays that you won't finish but other than that very to the point. pwrpts and notes are crucial.
AWESOME TEACHER. BECAME A HISTORY MAJOR BECAUSE OF HIM! HAVE LAW DEGREE AND NOW PLAN ON GETTING MA IN ANCIENT HISTORY.
EXCELLENT professor! He made history interesting and memorable! Really cool paper assignment, its not hard at all, and his tests are very straightforward and easy. Would def. recommend him!
def a great teacher with lots of enthusiasm! i took him over winter and i did very well. Mr. Birch explains what he wants and tells you what you have to do to succeed. History isnt my subject but he makes it easy to learn!!
Great teacher. Took for Greek and Roman history. Knows his stuff. Makes class fun and time does not drag on. Tests are hard if you do not study extensively and a few days before hand. Uses visuals on test, as long as you go to class and know the who, what, where, when, and significance for them you ate golden. Loves to have you write about sources.
Mr. Birch is the S. He was my favorite history teacher, and outdoor club chaperon. His class was always fun, even on hungover Friday mornings. Definitely the reason i got a minor in History. Sharks rule!
Amazing teacher! He's really into what he's teaching especially Ancient Greek history. You have to read the book and go to class to get all the information, especially visuals. If you don't prepare for the tests a few days before hand, you're not going to do well. If you're willing to put the work in, he's totally worth it!
I hate history, esp. at 9am.. but he kept me awake! He was very clear with his expectations.. a few tests, and a paper! Study, and you will be fine. He is a good teacher and really into what he teaches.
He's a good teacher you can learn a lot from if you want to learn, but at the same time not hard to do well in his class even if you aren't interested in the subject
He's a good guy. I miss class at least once a week and somehow still have a B. Not hard at all. Only thing is that yyou need to read the text a little and that you need to have someone give you the notes you missed.
I liked this guy. Atfirst I thought his class was going to be hard because I saw on the syllabus that there were 3 exams and 4 6 page papers to do, but as the time past and I did his work. It's not too bad. He's not a hard grader on papers. His tests are easy if you just study the term lists and make sure you pay attention in class its fun and easy
Mr. Birch is a cool guy. He's funny and is a good teacher. He expects a lot, but teaches you well so you should know most of what's on the exams and papers from what he tells in his powerpoints.
Great professor, works great with the students, very interactive during with lectures, keeps the class interest in the material. While leaving his class, you want to stay to listen for more because he really gets into it and as the student, you get into it too. however, he does challeng you, but you'll walk out getting you moneys worth.
Very nice guy. Loves history, extremely enthusiastic. 6 grades in the class, 3 multiple choice tests and 3 essays. Tests are easy if you use flash cards like recommended. Essays can be difficult based on the material. No bad experience while taking him.
OMG. I ABSOLUTELY HATE HISTORY, HE MADE THE 8:00 AM CLASS BEARABLE. IF YOU KNOW THE TERMS ON THE EXAM LIST YOU'LL DO FINE ON THE TEST. TAKE HIM IF YOU CAN.
Mr. Birch really brings this class to life, He lectures as if he were gossiping about the people he is talking about. He is really good at lecturing and everything shows up on the test. The tests are easy, and there are 3 papers based on the three mandatory books. He is really clear on what he wants. I recommend him if you are willing to work.
Love!! Please take him! Even if you hate history, you'll enjoy this class because of Birch. One of the best history teachers I've ever had. 2 papers, 3 exams - he gives you a study guide of terms so you know what will be on it. Lot's of memorization, though.
Mr. Birch made History bearable for me. I personally had no interest in the subject and on top of that the class was at 8am but with Birch as a teacher I couldn't complain. He tells stories as if they're soap operas and tries to make little jokes. Tests are easy, multiple choice. He is a little picky with the writing assignmeent but TAKE HIM!
Best history teacher at Salisbury! He honestly makes an effort to make the class interesting and doesn't disappoint.
He really is a great teacher and will help you if you don't understand the subject matter. He tries to liven things up and a bit and usually succeeds. The tests are tough but just study the notes he gives you and you'll be fine
Prof. Birch is a fantastic teacher, his lectures are straight from his powerpoints but he makes the class interesting and is really passionate about what he's teaching, he's incredibly nice as well. If you go and pay attention you will be fine. If you give him a draft of your paper and correct it to his specifications you get an A. Reccomend him
Highly recommend this teacher. He is very passionate about the material that he teaches and is very clear in his lectures. Just come to class ready to focus and pay attention. TAKE GOOD NOTES AND READ THE TEXTBOOK!! His grading style is somewhat challenging but it's only because he wants you to do well. I don't like history and I stil got an A.
He is the BEST... and he makes the class fun at times when he talks about his cat "Bob." He loves what he does and is extremely clear in his objective. I TRIPLE RECOMMEND HIM.
He will definitely keep you wide awake. His lectures are fascinating, even for a history class. Very approachable. Picky about attendance. You will need to study for tests. He has a term list for each test that has well over 100 words to know, so use flash cards and you'll be fine. Some questions come from the book and notes, so study those too
Probably the best you're going to get for HIST 101. I wasn't predisposed towards liking the subject matter, but he made it fun and made me not hate coming to class. There's a lot to know and the papers are hard if you don't know how to write scholarly papers (easy if you do know), but I recommend taking him for an easy gen ed.
I love coming to his class, he keeps it fun and interesting. We only have five grades each worth 100 points so if you do well on those you do well in the class. Best history professor I have ever had! Would recommend him to anyone taking history 101!
Great teacher! He really loves history and makes his lectures pretty interesting. 3 tests and 2 papers but if you turn in your paper he will read it and your guarenteed an A. Pretty easy if you study the notes. DEFINITELY recomend him!
He is such an awesome teacher! You have to work hard but his lectures are really entertaining and fun.
Professor Birch was awesome! Go to class, study your notes, and start your papers early and you'll be golden. Take him if you need an easy history to satisfy your gen eds!
He's a really good professor! Sometimes he isn't very helpful with in class questions because he expects you to "be a college student". I kinda respect that. Definitely enthusiastic!
Very easy class. Only two papers and as long as you turn in a rough draft and the paper is decent you'll get an A. Test are easy just study the notes and he says he takes attendence but never does. Take him for an easy A in history.
He is very specific in what he wants, but overall a great professor. He knows what he's talking about and is very helpful throughout. He sais he uses the textbook, but honestly don't buy it.
Pretty easy. Two 5 page papers. Some visual tests. Funny guy. Try to be on time and actually pay attention.
I am a history major and I hated this class.I took Intro Into Classical Mythology and half of his test was just memorizing pictures. He barley taught about actual mythology and the other half of his test is remembering terms. Who, What, When, Where, and Significance is all he cares about. I hated this class.
Love, love, love Mr. Birch. This is my third class with him because he's that great. Tests are tough and two five page papers, but he's helpful when needed. Didn't bother to buy the book. His lectures are interesting and his enthusiasm for the subject keeps your attention. Very understanding and approachable. Definitely recommend!
Very friendly and approachable. Two five page papers that were sort of difficult but give him a draft and you'll get a 100 on the final draft. Hated the tests and this class made me hate Greek History. But he was a very good teacher. Would cautiously recommend because the tests were so hard.
Mr. Birch is the best professor I have ever had. He explains everything in great detail and seems like he would like to nowhere else than teaching you, he has great charisma. However the test are very hard
There are 2 papers which are on readings that are extremely difficult to understand. three test and no final, if you study a week in advance you will pass the tests just a lot of vocabulary. I did not like his personality, he comes off as thinking he better than everyone.
Two papers that are really extensive and he grades them like a senior thesis. Three tests final is not cumulative. Nice guy, means well
Professor Birch is a great guy, he comes off a little tough but he really is helpful. His lectures are fairly interesting given the topic of the material. There are 3 tests and 2 papers. The papers are not easy, you need to start them early. If you go see him with your drafts you are guaranteed a decent grade. DO study for tests.
Tests weren't bad, but papers were extremely difficult unless you start them extra early and turn the in to be looked over. I was never interested in history but able to sit through his class. soooo many terms to learn that its like a new language
Favorite professor I've had at SU. He definitely knows his stuff and makes the lectures interesting. Cracks corny dad jokes, but I think it adds to his teaching style. Graded on 2 papers and 3 exams including the final. You will pass if you study. Very helpful w/ the papers, allows you to turn in a draft and he will fix it for you! TAKE HIM
Mr. Birch is an awesome teacher. His lectures are exactly what's on the tests; if you pay attention in class & take good notes, you'll get an easy A. He lectures the entire class, but gives time for students to ask questions; the lectures aren't boring at all. He's understanding and works with you to be successful.
Birch is an amazing professor for HIST101. His documents for papers are long, so read them ahead of time. He offers you to submit rough drafts, so take advantage of it! There are plenty of extra credit opportunities. Do not waste your money on the book. I read over my notes a few times and always got A's on exams. Show up and you will pass.
he's alright
Birch is a very kind professor, and is passionate about the subject, but if you are taking him for a Gen Ed, DO NOT take him. His papers have very specific rules to follow, which makes the essays so much more complicated. Also, his tests are tough. He does give out a lot of extra credit though, which helps with your grade tremendously.
Professor Birch is of the highest ilk. He's quite funny - and lame at the same time, which he fully embraces - and extremely bright. Once you understand what he expects from you, his papers are simple. Visit him in his office, as he will likely offer you tea or coffee. His ID Exams can be challenging at first. TAKE HIM AND VISIT HIS OFFICE.
Mr. Birch is your guy if you are taking history at Salisbury University!! You write 2 papers (which are long), but you can go see him as many times as you want and he will revise it. The more you go see him, the better chance you have at getting a 99 on it. The Tests are write off lecture material and extra credit was given periodically. Great Guy!
I had Professor Birch for History 101 and his class was one of my favorite classes. If you go to every class you will do great on his tests! He made 8ams not as horrible because he was energetic and happy! You have to make sure you study outside of class and GET STARTED ON HIS PAPERS EARLY!!! His papers are not that hard just start them early!!!
This is my second time taking Professor Birch. This is the guy you want if you are taking 102, or 101. The two classes are identical. 3 Tests, 2 Papers, and some Extra Credit. The paper's will require time, but are not hard to complete. If you study a few days before the test on lecture material you will be fine. Highly Recommend Birch!
Great Professor. He gives amazing lectures and totally knows his stuff. His tests are easy if you study and the papers aren't bad if you let him read your rough draft. He rocks!
He is a terrible professor who thinks he is better than everyone in the class just because he knows history. HIs tests are super long and have information that he doesn't even go over. His lectures are super boring and he just reads off the slides. His essays are pointless and he grades them extremely hard. Office hours do not help at all.
There's 3 tests and 2 papers. The tests aren't too bad if you study, but there are a few things that he'll put on them that weren't gone over. The papers are difficult, and he's very strict with instructions. Definitely turn in a rough draft for them.
Funny professor. Good guy over all but the grading is rough. Be ready for intensive memorization and some outside work. Start your essays early!
Had him in my LLC class. Very kind, go to his office hours and he is a different person. Easy class, just show up, do the essays (only 2), do flashcards for the terms list. He says some very weird things but they are hilarious. Also, go to class before breaks, easy extra credit opportunities. Pretty sure I am going to get an A.
Very harsh grader. He does not give you much information to write an essay. Definitely doesnt care if you pass the class. Some extra credit is given, maybe 5 points extra.
Professor Birch is a great professor for history majors, and anyone who enjoyed high school history or takes good notes. As a history major, I've had him for three classes (101, Hellenistic Med, & Greek Mythology), all of which were enjoyable. However, if you go into any of his classes expecting not to work or do the minimum, you'll regret it.
He's really nice and understanding, and it helps to build a relationship with him as a class at the beginning of the semester because he will listen if you ask for more time, reviews, or extensions. His lectures are very interesting and it's easy to take notes from not just his presentations, but on the fun facts and little details he gives you.
Professor Birch is very kind and genuine. He really cares about the curriculum. There are 3 tests and 2 papers. The tests are not too hard and he also puts extra credit on these tests over the semester. The papers are difficult, but turn in your rough draft, that way you can get a better grade! Lectures can either be long and boring or short & fun.
This professor does not care as much about history as he does grammar when it comes to his papers. He is more anal than an English professor. I never got below a 90 on an English essay and got a D on the first essay in this class. He does offer help for essays and you will not get higher than a D on the essay unless you get his help.
This is the worst professor I have ever had. I am a straight As student and did not pass this class
This man has a packet of "don'ts" for his papers. I followed that thing like a bible for writing my first paper which I spent all of spring break writing in hopes of getting a 100 or 95 because his class is point wise and I wanted an A, I got an 86. He deducted points for things that weren't mentioned in that packet. Take someone else for HIS 101
I like writing papers but man has he made me dread writing. I have never felt so stuck witing papers before. He tells you to read A STORY yet tells you not to write about the story or the characters. His papers would take me FOREVER to write and he graded very harshly.
What an amazing professor. Lectures are so interesting and he is really such a down to earth guy. No homework, No weekly quizzes or assignments of any kind. 2 (easy) Exams and a final which is not cumulative. 2 writing assignments. Just pay attention and take notes and this class will be not only an easy A, but super interesting!!
Hes a cool guy but his exams are kinda hard because you have to take good notes to get a good grade. If youre a good writer & by that I mean, great w grammar and punctuation, you will get As on his papers. His papers are long and kinda dreadful but if you push through it , youll do fine...
professor birch is a very good professor. gave 3 tests and 2 papers, but lets you turn in a draft that he will give feedback on before its due. he actively tries to make history as entertaining as he can and gives extra credit after every test. overall a great professor and I will definitely take again for my next history class.
Birch was an ok teacher. He only had 3 exams and 2 writing assignments. You don't need the book at all. FOLLOW THE RUBRIC on the writing assignments. He lets you turn in the writing assignments early for a rough draft. Study and pay attention in class. He can be pretty boring but willing to help. He gives long stories but they never are needed.
If you study his vocabulary lists before tests and turn in rough drafts for all papers it is an easy A. Many students struggle with how picky he is on essays, but if you turn in a rough draft he will tell you what to fix to ensure that you receive an A.
You should to start the papers early when assigns them because he's a tough grader for writing. He allows you to give him rough drafts and gives you valuable feedback. I suggest you do this. He gives you a term list before each exam. If you are a good writer this class is easy. The exams are mc, matching, and a short essay. He never used the text.
Do not take this class unless you are an excellent writer. The exams are just essays and the papers are like nothing you have ever seen. The grading criteria is extremely specific and if you don't follow it to the T you will get points taken off. Highly recommend another professor unless you have no other option.
Dr. Birch is the worst prof I've ever had. His papers serve no purpose other than to satisfy his strict grading criteria. He's also extremely condescending. If you're a HIST major, I'm sure you'll find the class riveting (as I'm sure Dr. Birch finds himself to be), but for a gen ed, I'd rather drop out of college than take another class with him.
He gives 2 writing assignments and splits the first one up but not the second one. The reading he gives for the papers are worthless and give you know information for the actual class. Our exam was just like the essays given but actually from our weekly readings. The writing instructions are so strict and he grades extremely hard!! Do not take this
Maybe this class was better in person, but do NOT take this class if it is online. He has not adapted the content well for the switch. Most of this class is you reading yourself and taking very quickly timed quizzes. There is no teaching, he simply gives assignments. The essays will have weird specific criteria. Overall, I would avoid this class.
As an online class this class is CRAZY!! Every week he gives 30-50 pages in the textbook to read and then gives a quiz at the end of the week on it and gives us less than a minute for each question. He's good at responding to emails but is not open-minded or flexible with grading at all. I'm an A student & have cried several times over this class.
DO NOT take this for an online course. Gives about 70-80 pages in the textbook to read and a PowerPoint presentation sometimes even an hour-long video. His quizzes are ridiculous. He gives you 45-60 seconds per question and the questions are so specific. Out of 80 pages, he doesn't quiz on concepts but rather one word out of 80 pages. Got A though
Who assigns papers and doesn't let you quote, refer, or use examples from the reading? Him I guess. I feel like those were the dumbest papers I have written in my entire life. It's not a hard class, just super frustrating and I would advise everyone to stay away.
He does not provide a rubric for his assignments, just a packet of instructions and gets mad when you ask for clarification. If you do not do well on any of the only 5 assignments in the class you will not receive an A in the class. Offers no redos, little extra credit, and if you fail... he does not care.
One of my favorite professors. There are two papers and three exams, but as long as you study for the exams and start the papers early you'll almost definitely receive a good grade. He gives you over a month for each paper and his lectures are very interesting and thought out. Doesn't give extra credit but is willing to help if you're struggling.
His essays are pretty difficult. They have absolutely nothing to do with the material learned in class and are completely random. When taking notes you can't just copy down the slide, you HAVE to write down what he is saying out loud or you'll fail the exam. Exams aren't too difficult if you really study hard. He is very passionate which is good.
Just follow the instructions for the writing assignments and work on studying early! Super easy
Great class! It takes a little bit to get used to his essays but once you have it, you can easily get an A. Make sure you go to class and know the term lists, as that's a majority of his exams. Fair grader and a good teacher.
He is not for everyone and can be a little tough. Every one of his exams are what you write from the board in class, nothing from the textbook so don't bother too much with reading it unless you want to skim it over. He is very picky about grading your papers which are 5 pages long but he gives you a lot of time to get it done.
This professor is a heavy lecturer, if you ask him simple questions like how to spell something he will tell you no and will tell you to figure it out on your own. He has four actual assignments all year, and they are FIVE PAGE PAPERS!!! You cannot use anything just paraphrasing and the other two assignments are exams no not recommend this class!!!
Great prof. He is very passionate about his teachings, and you can earn an easy A. Class can be dull, but it's easy to show up and listen. Essays will be given, however, they're straightforward; follow the prompt and you'll be fine. I honestly didn't touch my textbook once and was fine on exams, as long as you study the given vocab and maps.
Dr. Birch is a wonderful professor, he comes across as a teacher who actually cares about his students and is extremely passionate. Lectures can be a bit monotonous and drawn out, but the topics are always interesting and he explains things very well. If you are respectful and pay attention, you shouldn't have a complaint about him.
Dr. Birch is one of the best history professors I've had salisbury. He was very clear with his expectation and delivered information in an easy to understand way. He was always very open with students and seemed like he really cared. Class and tests are not hard as long as you take notes.
Lectures are long and boring. Tests are really easy, know terms and maps and you'll be fine. Attendance is graded and there isn't much other grades other than exams and 4 essays.
He's an amazing professor, you can tell he loves teaching which is why being late gets him really upset. Doesn't technically affect you butttt you miss a lecture and you're BEHIND. I wouldn't risk it. You write short essays in class like every 4 weeks or so, he says 4 pages but they're tiny pages. You''ll take a lot of notes and read them.
Dr. Birch has a specific teaching style, but engaging with it can be worthwhile. Attend lectures, read the textbook, and use study tools like Unstuck AI to prepare for the exams and papers - they can be quite challenging. Overall, the class is manageable with the right approach.
The course is lecture-heavy, with exams based entirely on the lectures and discussions. As long as you take notes and study before the exams, you'll do fine. The lectures are engaging, and the professor is always willing to answer questions. I'd definitely take this course again.
His lectures are very boring, nobody participates its just him talking for an hour and 15 minutes. The grades are just exams and essays. No study guides or anything just 100 multiple choice questions for the exams. Very boring class. Hes got very weird rules too that if you dont follow youre screwed.
Dr. Birch was very passionate about what he was teaching and really seemed like he knew what he was talking about. Writing assignments were easy if you put in effort and follow the guidelines CAREFULLY, since they were strict. He made lectures engaging, especially if u sat near the front. This class and Dr. Birch made me super interested in history
Great teacher helps you when needed just study the power points the day before and you should get an A
Dr. Birch is very kind and passionate! His class is very easy to get an A in. If you show up to lecture and pay attention, you will find the exams very easy. There's 3 mc exams (including the non-cumulative final) and 2 timed writings. You will get a 100 on the timed writings as long as you follow instructions.
Very smart and straightforward with his material. Does not post anything but as long as you show up and pay attention you will do fine. He speaks slowly and clearly, loves questions and participation. He has his rules but just respect him and you're fine.
Without a doubt one of my favorite proffesors. Very straight forward class, 3 exams, 2 in class timed essays that are SIMPLE, and 3-4 online quizzes that. He cares about his students, and makes that very clear with the way he lectures making them as engaging as possible. Need more people like Proffesor Birch here at Salisbury. Thank you Birch
Dr. Birch is an awesome professor. I needed to reschedule an exam once due to illness this semester and he replied to me right away did not need any doctors note and told me we could reschedule once I was ready. This class is ultimately very easy and he gives you almost every opportunity to get an A in it. If you do not get an A you are the problem
Birch is very sweet and tries to make class interesting but there isn't much he can do. Exams are very specific questions that could be from the smallest thing he mentioned once in class. Though he is lenient with a missed exam.
U have to make ur own map & have no idea if its accurate. The exams have small details that are easy to miss so taking notes is kind of a challenge when u dont know what is and isnt important. in class writings are pretty easy absolutely do the readings it will be on the exams.
