He is really easy!! The class may be difficult for some but there's a lot of extra credit (attending labs)!!! Every week have quiz or test...but still they aren't too bad...
Awesome teacher. If you want to pass Math this is the guy.
He's a really nice guy and he makes math really easy to understand. :) Definitely a good professor!
wow really easy class, nice guy too! have a quiz every week but can use your book, notes, and can work with other people. the final is questions from tests before. very easy take it!
Oh man! Great teacher. Great style. Looks like he shops at Goodwill, but he still rules. He wants you to do well in the class. Loved it!

Easy class, even though he is a boring teacher.

Easy teacher, but can get to be slow.
Class was SOOO EASY. All quizes are done with the whole class and homework is graded easily. Lowest test grade is replaced with attendance, which is a good incentive. Def good teacher to take!! =)
He is the man!!!!! I failed all four tests this semester and also failed the final with a 20% and i still got a solid C in the class. Thank God i had him as a math teacher.
Very fair teacher. Gave plenty of help and grades super easy. he tries to be funny, even though he's not, but it's kind of endearing
Easy class
Pretty easy assigments and tests. Sometimes confusing to follow during lecture. Otherwise, not bad at all.
the guy is awesome. easy class, great teacher. show up and youll get an A.
He's really boring, but he drops a lot of grades and helps get your points up. Try to pay attention in class even though he's boring as hell.
This guy is a tool he doesn't follow the book, but all in all still an easy class because he drops grades.
This class wasn't normally taught in a lecture hall, but this year it was, and to be honest it went kind of quick, but he was a really good teacher. He offers plenty of ways to raise your grade through replacing your lowest test score with attendance score and dropped some quizzes and some homework assignments. i recommend him!
This class was really frustrating. He talked quietly, often skimped over things in class, and taught a different method than the book. The solution manual had a LOT of errors. "42 + 1 = 46" Not even kidding. We had new material on a Thursday and were tested on it the following day. But he curves the grade and helps you make up points.
PROS: Teaches well, helpful, has ways to raise your grade by dropping your lowest grades. Funny in his own way. CONS: Occasionally snaps on people; Lord help you if you need to leave class early. You cant sit where you want, he made everyone move to the front of the class on the first day. Homework is graded. Seemed more like high school...
He is very good at explaining, but teaching in a large lecture hall is not for him. Drops your lowest test score for your attendance score and only takes your highest 8 quiz grades. Overall, I would recommend this teacher.
Okay, he is probably the worst teacher i've had for math...but if you get tutored and understand the material, you can easily get an A. GO TO CLASS EVERYDAY. He takes your attendance grade, and replaces it with your lowest test score. Only positive thing. Quizes are taken w/ whole class. Go to class...play tetris, get help when test time comes.
DOES NOT EXPLAIN ANYTHING....just runs through examples with out teaching...only good thing is that the quiz are taken by the whole class and you get to replace your lowest test score with you attendance grade....DONT TAKE HIM IF YOU DONT HAVE TO
pretty easy class, tests are hard, but you get to drop your lowest grade. attend class, but you don't really need to pay attention. He is willing to be very helpful if you ask. I've had worse math classes/teachers than this...
This guy is awesome! Class is extremely simple, and we go over all the homework on the board before each lesson. He's hilarious if you can get him talking, and he is very good at showing exactly how to do each problem.
He is a very good teacher. sometimes people are rude are disrepect him, but he gives out extra credit to those who ARE respectful. quizzes are easy and everyone exchanges answers. always willing to go over problems and help out.
i tested high on the math placement test so i went for this class, i didnt understand anything but he does try to make you pass, he gives alot of extra credit if you take advantage. one time i had to run outside to throwup after a night of drinking during a test and he gave me extra time because i was sick. good fair guy.
Good guy. Cant go through problems detailed cause classes are too big but that is what you expect in college.
all quizzes are partner quizzes. gives alot of extra credit
basically, i got 55's on every test, got 155/220 on the final, and got a B. that is why you need to take him, you may hate him at first, but you learn to love him because no where else can you suck and still get a B or an A
Spent more time trying to get the class under control than he did teaching. Went through overheads too quickly and frequently embarrassed himself by working problems incorrectly and getting called out by his students, or forgetting his mic and having to yell over the huge lecture hall class. Easy course if you can tolerate complete chaos.
Apparently the kid who rated him harshly was either retarded, didn't pay attention in class, or was one of those kids who come to class to further their social lives. While I can agree that the counting rule he has is stupid & childish, he in no way lost control of his class nor was the class chaotic. I learned a lot and he's a good professor.
This guy is funny as hell.. He looks like the coach in the Mighty Ducks...Gordan Bombay. quack..Quack...Quack!...QUacK!..QUACK!!...QUACK!!!!
I can only guess that the people giving him negative comments are freshman that are actually surprised that college level courses can sometimes be challenging. I don't know what people are talking about when they say he has trouble with detailed problems, because this guy can freehand math like crazy. He gives plenty of chances to boost a grade.
I really enjoy this class, I'm doing well in a class I dropped out of last year. The difference has to be the professor right?
The class is pretty easy. You should definitely go to class and do the homework. The quizzes are always open so you can work with anyone you want. The tests are multiple choice so it's not too bad.
He's a great guy. I hated math before this but he made is easy and doable. Go to class, do homwork and the rest will come easy...GROUP quizes every friday between tests.
Loosened up closer to the end of the year, but he is a great teacher and really goes slow during class which is good if you dont understand math. i would totally reccomend him as a teacher.
He is a great teacher. You need to attend class to see how the work is done and he takes attention points. He moves quickly and doesn't really EXPLAIN. Not TOO hard to get an A but be willing to reteach the lessons to yourself. DO THE HOMEWORK!!
he's an okay guy. but he has a hard time with his temper. he is super self contentious and hates any sort of conversation when he is talking.
Good guy. Decent teacher. Group quizzes on Fridays.
This professor can grow a great beard and his temper is sexy.. i'll be stopping by his office hours. Overall though he was a good teacher.
I hate math and never really payed attention in class but he makes it so easy for people who just want to slide. He answers all the HW questions you didnt get done before you have to turn it in and has group quizzes on Friday. I did pretty poorly on all the tests but still got a B in the class because of perfect attendance.
i absolutely stink at math. this professor made math so easy and passable. i had to drop a math class last year because the professor was impossible... this semester i received an A with boyer. he makes math super easy not to mention he's like a human calculator; it's entertaining. he's awesome... you can't go wrong with him!
makes everything very easy, no busy work. makes the class as painless as possible for you to get it, understand it and move on
Get a big boost in EC if you go to class everyday which helps a lot. The whole class takes a quiz every friday and you can talk to whoever u want during it to get the answers. All HW problems are in back of the book
YOU NEED TO GO TO CLASS! You get a bunch of extra credit if you don't miss a single day of lecture. Class is based on homework and in-lab worksheets, quizzes, and tests. Quizzes are given every Friday, but you can work with anyone in the lecture hall. Final was very tough!
This class is very easy at the beginning, but gets much harder as the semester goes on. Attendance is very important. He does not respond to emails at all so if you want to get in contact with him the only way is to really talk to him in class.
One of the worst teachers I have ever had. He doesn't explain concepts very well and then gets frustrated when students get confused and ask him questions. His office hours are inflexible and the way he does his tests are unreasonable. He does multiple choice math tests! Do not take his MTH 119 especially if it takes some time for you to get math.
He was a little hard at first but got more and more helpful throughout the semester
Makes class virtually impossible to fail. Tons of extra credit and quiz improvements for not missing a single class and grades hw for completion. I am awful at math and managed to get a B in this class.
If you go to every lecture, you'll get 3 quiz grades bumped to 100%s and 10 points of extra credit. I suck at math and some how I'm doing well. His tests are hard and his quizzes are group quizzes (you can work with other people).
Boyer is a great teacher, I would definetly recommend taking his class. If you go to class you can get quizzes dropped and extra credit. Homework is graded only on completion and if you do all the homework he is lenient with your final overall grade. Tests and final are very hard be prepared.
He is a very nice teacher and offers you the chance to do well. Attendence means extra credit on quizes and total points. You get to work on quizes as a class and test are similar to the quizes. So if you study and show up to class it is almost imposible to do bad in the class.
I have taken Math130 twice already with 2 different teachers, and with Mr. Boyer I will pass with a B in the class. He is by far the best teacher for the most failed math class at ISU. You will definitely pass the class if you take it with him! He gives a lot of extra credit opportunities and group quizzes every Friday. I recommend him for math130
After 2 times of failing Math 130, I finally passed with a B! He expects the class to work together on learning material, but he always makes sure that everyone knows the material well before a test. 1 easy hw assignment due a week, group quizzes every friday, and only 3 test which all are easy if you prepared well with homework and quizzes.
I had a lot of trouble understanding concepts with Boyer explaining them, he was not very clear. I had to teach myself most of the material. Although it is hard to learn from him he gives so much extra credit it is impossible to fail the class, make sure to go to class to get the extra credit!
People go into this class thinking they are going to fail. Professor Boyer Proved everyone the exact opposite. Always willing to help, lots of extra credit, weekly GROUP quizes, and always in a great attitude!
I heard this was one of the hardest classes to take at ISU. Prof. Boyer was a great teacher and explained everything very well. His tests were straight forward and he gave extra credit.
He is goes through material way too quickly and rushes through all of his problems, practically not explaining half of them! The homework he assigned had little to nothing to do with what he just taught us! Never responded to emails, tests were hard, the only good thing was that you could work with people on quizzes. Find a different professor!
Great teacher. He was very clear on what he expected and there was a lot of extra credit available and easy homework points. I would definitely recommend him for any math class at ISU.
TAKE BOYER FOR MATH 130! He is a GREAT teacher and is very clear in what he wants in your test answers. He provides lots of worksheets and homework assignments that are extremely similar to the tests. He also gives extra credit and group quizzes. Compared to the other Math 130 teachers, Boyer is a god. TAKE HIM.
Math 130 is one of the hardest classes at ISU and Mr. Boyer made it easy, except he completely screwed us over for the final and did not teach us half of the stuff on it. I would recommend him over any other teacher but just make sure he goes over what will be on the final, because I had an A but I ended with a B after the final.
Lectures are very unhelpful & he fly's through material. Fortunately all the quizzes & exams are multiple choice which makes the class pretty easy. Focus on quiz material before exams & you'll do pretty well on the tests. The final was a lot tougher than any of the exams, but was still multiple choice. Should be an easy class to pass.
He's a little different but otherwise I can't complain. I did really good although i saw people quickly fall in class. Make sure to read his syllabus it explains his grading scale which can be used for your advantage.
Had him in MAT 130 and loved him so took him for 131. Easy and gives extra credit. Quizzes are group and then tests are by yourself. Homework doesn't really coordinate with his examples but he gives you the answers before you turn it in. Most everyone in the class had a 95 or higher. TAKE HIM!
This class is just a pain and hard in general. Mr. Boyer makes it as simple as possible. Quizzes are as a table and tests are by yourself. Extra credit is given. Easiest of all the 130 teachers. Take him you wont regret it. Has his own worksheets so he teaches things differently than all the other teachers. would recommend him.
Best math teacher I've ever had. Not the easiest course, but he teaches the material well and clear. He doesn't teach right out of the book and uses an outline for every lecture that you print out. Kind of a strange dude, but he is a fantastic teacher.. and math is my worst subject. I came out with an A in the class. Highly recommend taking him.
I have Boyer for Math 119. He goes way to fast through the lectures that it is hard to keep up. Sometimes we get homework(out the book) that has nothing to do with what we are learning in class. Sometimes the book isnt no help. To stay up in this class I have to go to tutoring and find online help.
Best math teacher by far! If you even remotely pay attention you will understand everything! He moves through lecture at a perfect pace, he actual makes math fun to learn. Tells jokes and is always willing to help you if you are not understanding something. If you follow the rules he hands to you the first day of class you will be golden.
Kevin's an extremely intelligent instructor. His teaching style is easy and if you do the work you will do well. Finite Math, unlike other Maths, has practical use in the real world so he always taught how to do the arithmetic on paper -- long and drawn out -- and THEN would show you how to do it on the calculator. You will appreciate that.
We usually got out of our hour and a half class after about 30 minutes max. He is super clear on what he wants, and he definitely does not want anyone failing. He drops a bunch of grades, lets you take quizzes in groups and as anyone in the class for help, and then bases tests off of the quizzes. TAKE HIM OVER ANYONE ELSE.
Aside from his lame jokes, professor Boyer was amazing. He can get a little boring so not for those with short attention spans. By the end of the semester, I was even struggling to pay attention. I got an A, the kid next to me missed a lot and was getting F's on his tests. So show up.
He is good explaining the concepts. He has a really good grade dropping system but you have to have good attendance to get hem dropped. All the homework and labs are for completion so as long as you do it, you'll be fine. I didn't miss a single class and ended up with an 88.9 at the end of the semester which he rounded up to an A
Very animated teacher which makes for interesting lectures.. Cares about his students which I respect.
Quizes every week and tests like once a month. This class was basically review for me so I had no problems at all. Overall a good teacher and a pretty interesting guy.
great teacher, finishing up the semester in a few weeks and he really taught me a lot. as long as you pay attention and study a bit you should be fine. SHOW UP TO CLASS, he gives extra points for showing up
TAKE BOYER! He gives group quizzes worth 20 pts each & gives extra credit points for perfect attendance & for attending class before break starts. He also rewards good attendance with replacing low quizzes and the homework & labs max out at 50 pts so once you have those you're basically done going to lab. Also, your final can replace lowest test!
BEST MATH TEACHER! TAKE HIM! You won't regret it because he gives so many chances to raise your grade. But you gotta show up to lecture and do the homework. It's not hard, get a group of friends to do the homework so its no so bad. Enjoy
If you're going to take a math course, take it with Boyer. SOOOO many opportunities to raise your grade and receive extra credit. If you don't understand something, ASK!! He will help! His TA's were awesome and he can be strict but he truly does care about his students advancements in education. Wish he could be my math teacher all 4 years!
Good teacher. Group Quizzes. Home-works are harder than the quizzes, quizzes are harder than the tests. Homework grade is completion. Walks around and puts points.
It's an alright class. The better your attendance is, the more incentives you receive. There are quizzes every Friday that you can work with people. He teaches very FAST. If you are a slow learner, beware. God forbid you leave class early because he'll probably cut your head off. The final exam is nothing like the review.
Kevin was very clear on what he expected but was very scatter brained. If it's too hot in lecture, he'll let you leave early because he can't concentrate. The TA's are your lifeline to passing the class.
great class he makes things easy to understand. can get a little crazy but hes pretty straight forward.
Gives you the opportunity to get 3 quiz grades and 10 points of extra credit if you have perfect attendance for the lecture days(in my case was Mondays and Wednesdays). Goes really quick, often lets you out 10-15 minutes early. Great guy, go to class and you'll get a good grade.
Kevin Boyer is what you would call 'fiery'. He rushes through his lectures, leaving those who do not have math as a strong suit often confused and left in the dust; studying his online notes is essential if you are not a math whiz. Attending his lectures will result in extra credit, as well as turning in all homework assignments.
Boyer sets up his classes so well. He gives so many opportunities for points. If you have perfect attendance, you get extra credit. Quizzes almost every Friday, but you get to use notes and talk to neighbors. Tests are every so often and straight forward. Some of the homework doesn't reflect what you learn in class, but it's graded on completion.
He offers tons of extra credit and gives you credit for just showing up to class. I never missed a class and as a result he changed my lowest 3 quiz scored to 20/20 and gave me an additional 10 extra credit points. The material can be difficult at times, but he does tell you what material to study for the test. All quizzes are open notes.
runs through lectures too fast and makes mistakes more than any teacher ive had in the past. gives a good option to make up points through attendence. needs to slow down and do less problems and go more in depth. also very messy hand writing
I learned literally nothing in his semester long class. He went really fast through lectures and did a poor job of explaining. He had literal freak outs where he gets mad at the class for no apparent reason then yells at us. I wish he spent more time trying to actually teach us step by step, yelled less and spoke less aggressively.
He doesn't care about you or your problems, leave class early for emergency it counts as two days that you weren't there. Goes from start to finish on a problem with no explanation, gets irrationally angry and screams all the time. Want to see the board? Too bad, he won't dim the lights or zoom in without constantly asking.
I went to Boyer's office hours for help since my first two exam grades tarnished my overall grade. I explained I had diabetes, so he gave me accommodations for every test. He sat down with me and we went over the schedule, forming a plan to get an A in the class. Great teacher that cares and is organized! Pay attention in class and go to labs.
Boyer is an excellent teacher for Math 130. Not only does he actually take the time to make sure everyone and I mean everyone knows the topic being discussed but he is a professor he genuinely cares about his students and creating good teachers. Gives great feedback on tests and even from questions. You can get an A with hard work( a lot of work)
Kevin goes too fast in lectures and does not explain why he is doing the steps he is. Get ready to teach yourself everything on your own because he is 100% not going to explain it to you. Do not take math 119 with him!
good teacher
honestly,i didn't learn much from him. he definitely seems kind and wanting to help if a student asks and he offers quite a bit of extra credit and will bump you up if you have good attendance so i recommend that. he moves through material fast he goes off on tangents so that's funny but i recommend getting chegg study to help with problems in book
Attendance is not mandatory but he does give out extra credit at the end of the semester for coming to class everyday. All the notes/ lectures are online. He gives out group quizzes every Friday expect the days there are test. this is a pretty easy course if you go to class and take notes. He gives out lots of extra credit.
Kind of normal, maybe bipolar. Attendance is not mandatory but you should show up to get the bonus points at the end of the semester. He knows his math, but can't teach it. He rushes through all the content, and is always worried about time. He never helps on questions, and the only way to learn it is on review days. Quizzes are harder than test.
Boyer was awful. I barely paid any attention and i still passed (well, only by the skin of my teeth but that's beside the point). When there's only a few minutes left of class, don't start packing up. If he even so much as thinks he hears a bookbag zipper, he will literally scream at the whole class. He sucks at teaching. Avoid him at all costs.
Everyone rating him poorly is probably unemployed lol go to his office hours he bumped me from a 78 to an 80, respect him and he will respect you disrespect him he will get mad, he's human. Would love to see everyone criticizing him teach a class of 100 plus students... He is extremely competent in math
Take Professor Boyer over the summer! He's super chill and easy going. Very helpful. If you never miss a class, you get 10 extra credit points!
He makes sure students understand lectures and gives extra credit for perfect attendance. Lots of notes but he posts them after class.
Kevin is great! This was his first year teaching MAT 130, and he did so well having the class engage in the different lessons that he was teaching. He let us take quizzes as a group, and he dropped the lowest one! He also gave extra credit if you shared your work. He is a math professor so nothing is going to be easy, but Boyer is so understanding.
He was great at teaching this course. He told us exactly what he expected and how he would set up the test questions. Easy A. I'm hoping to get him for math 152 also!
Since this is a math class it is necessary to go to learn the material. Boyer is a good teacher and is willing to help if you ask for it. He has a strict attendance policy, but if you go to class he gives extra credit at the end of the semester. As long as you communicate with him he is a super easy guy to get along with.
Boyer is my least favorite professor at ISU. He is very intimidating to talk to and is always worried about time. In class, he screamed at a kid for sitting up. I would not reccomend taking this professor at ISU!
Very good teacher. As long as you do homework you will do good in the class. Great teacher who will help you pass and does a great job explaining notes. Would take him again!
I 100% respect Professor Boyer. Even though we had over 100 students in my math 119 class, he was very consistent with uploading grades and material to reggienet. He lets you work with students around you and use notes in quizzes. Outside of class, I had trouble contacting him. He never answered my emails and wasn't there during his office hours.
He's loud and to the point and great to get help from outside of class.
The tests that he gives are the hardest test I have ever had to take. Make sure to look at the syllabus and follow it. He does give extra credit so that helps a little. Make sure to study otherwise you won't pass if math is even a little hard for you.
Kevin Boyer is one of the best math teachers I have ever had. Math 130 is a very difficult class with any professor but Kevin makes it manageable. He is clear with what he expect and gives you an idea what is on the test and quizzes. I would highly recommend anyone taking math 130 to take him as a professor.
Good class, especially if you're bad at math. Weekly quizzes are open note, device, and we work with the class. Tests are written just like the quizzes, and he tells us which questions from the quizzes to study. He may seem intimidating, but he is very nice.3 of your quizzes are 100% if you go to every class, EC, you don't have to do each HW.
Very lecture heavy. He gets upset if the class isnt on a certain page of notes at a certain time. He writes his notes very fast and sloppy so sitting in the back row is almost impossible considering theres assigned seating. The tests are only 16 questions and are worth 125 points each. Not alot of graded things so you have to start/end strong.
All tests are 125 points and each question is 8 points each and tests are multiple choice so if you miss one you're screwed. This man just lectures but doesn't explain anything. He only cares about time and making sure he isn't going over his time limit and not actually making sure his students understand it. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS.
Really good attendance policy, not mandatory but extra credit and Improved test grades when you go. Only 10/18 homework and lab worksheets needed for perfect homework/lab scores.
Would not take Professor Boyer again. Currently in his online class, and he's always worried about time, even with recorded lectures. Doesn't offer any extra credit. Bit rude & blunt- so he doesn't make it easy to reach out to. And his TA's take a while for grading. If I could I go back and drop the class, I would. So save yourself the trouble.
He was completely useless
This class wasn't an easy transition to online. He lets you work with other students on the quizzes just not the tests. The tests are all open note and after them, we'd check in with each other and most of us had C's on all of our tests. There's 16 questions so not much room for mistakes. You basically teach yourself in this class and its hard.
His connect math would sometimes take me up to 2 hours. The test were very difficult. Specially online, I wasnt able to learn anything. His lectures were pre-recorded but would have Zoom for office hours.
Overall, the class was fine, it's a typical math class. I actually loved my grad student, but as far as Professor Boyer goes, he wasn't the nicest and was hard to learn from. There is connect math lesson, 2-3 hw worksheets, and a quiz every week. Tests are every other week. It's intense, but on the plus side, you get 3 attempts on quizzes :)
He's pretty harsh and struggled a bit. Although, No proctored exams and gave extra credit. Exams are very material heavy, so if you don't understand the content then you won't do well on exams. Quiz every Friday on lecture content. HW and lab worksheets due every Friday @noon.
I had to take this class online during the fall semester due to covid. He was awful. The material wasn't bad, I got good grades on the quizzes & understood the homework but he made the tests very difficult & they held a lot of weight to them. I had to get THREE different tutors to help me & that still didn't work. He might be better in-person, idk
Very difficult math class especially if you are bad at math like me. He goes extremely fast and isnt good at explaining. Gives out a lot of extra credit which is nice, but I would try to find a different professor.
Fast talker and lecturer, but thorough and is willing to answer any and all questions. Gives extra credit for pretty much being a good student, so put in the effort and you'll succeed.
Absolutely awful professor. had him last semester and only cared about time and when asked questions, he would just say something quick and barely explained everything. If you want to pass MAT119, or at least do it easier, take literally any other professor there.
Professor Boyer was very lenient with certain situations affecting my academics, despite his syllabus. It was a little difficult to be in contact with him. This class was asynchronous and he wasn't the best at responding to my emails. Overall, he explains the material very well. I had no problem completing work for his class.
Boyer was impossible to get in touch with if I needed help. He took months to get my grades in and they weren’t even accurate. Never had a C in my life until this class. HW is online and very picky about formatting. Lecture is fine but the online HW has nothing to do with what we learned. Also multiple paper HW due per week. Quiz every week
I am currently taking MAT119 for my major and am so close to withdrawing and taking it over the summer through Heartland. The worksheets, quizzes, and aleks is pretty easy, but his tests are awful. 125 points, 16 multiple choice questions worth 8 points a piece. Very few extra credit opportunities to raise your grade.
I withdrew from MAT119 because Boyer's exams were a nightmare. 16 questions, 8 points a piece. I withdrew after the third exam because I literally did not pass a single exam no matter how much I reviewed the material. His lectures are all over the place and he's hard to follow because he expects you to already know everything. Would not recommend.
Professor Boyer is very unorganized and this puts a lot of stress on his students. His directions and expectations are very unclear. The homework and class content were not even related. I could definitely tell that he did not prepare for class because it showed. All he cared about were giving us quizzes and tests.
I am not the best at math but prof Boyer made this class manageable. There are weekly quizzes and homework assignments due. Tests are worth most of your grade but are set up just like quizzes. I am a bad test taker but had an A average on them. Tells you what will be on tests. Boyer is the sweetest man. Offers extra credit. I recommend!
Professor Boyer was great attendance was not mandatory but greatly encouraged. Never felt unprepared for a test and made very clear what was going to be on each test. The homework definitely sucked because it differed from how we learned in lecture though it was good reinforcement. He was really nice and very understanding. Also drops lowest test.
Great teacher, he will give you EXACTLY what you need to pass. His class is not easy but he will prepare you and tell you everything that is going to be on the test.
Great professor, which means very fast but there is a lot of material available to students to study. Very realistic allows calculators and tests were difficult so study. But do all homework + all attendance and he will raise your grade if you ask depending on hw + attendance. Final wasn't hard either, just be sure to study
This professor just go go goes and thinks we should know everything already which is really frustrating. Many of my classmates have the same problem learning the work since he goes so fast. Every lesson we learn at least 5 different materials in the span of 50 minutes which is just ridiculous.
I took mat 119, and I had to withdraw from the class because Kevin just moves way too quick with little to almost no explanation. He would always be moving through his examples and lectures very fast, and was worried that he was going to run out of time. If you are really good at algebra, you may be alright. Otherwise, be prepared to teach yourself
This professor is literally the GOAT. I SUCK at math, but when I was actually trying, I managed to get a hang of Professor Boyer's material (until I goofed off, oops). He is pretty speedy, so pay attention, ask questions, and make routine. UTILIZE TUTORING, and be engaged in lectures and labs. DUDE IS ALSO HILARIOUS, understanding, and organized!
Boyer is very knowledgeable about the subject, but that is where the class gets difficult as he speeds through lectures. I would highly recommend studying a lot for the tests but he is very clear about what will be on the exams and tells you exactly where to find examples of test questions in the quizzes. If you aren't ready to study do not take.
There was a quiz every friday and two or three assignments a week. Provides extra credit for attendance which boosted my grade up 5%
The testing was terrible. Had a hard time understanding his teaching.
Hes a pretty good teacher and really does try to help you understand. If you just show up every day you'll do well. Also the final isn't that hard
He's a good professor but moves pretty fast. He's always willing to help and will accommodate you if you miss an exam. You do have to work outside the class, but getting a good grade is not extremely hard.
He was a decent teacher. Just a lot of work. The only good thing is that quizzes are done as a group and tests are mostly all open notes (when he wants).
LOTS OF EXTRA CREDIT. If you go to class you are rewarded at the end of the semester with extra credit. He moves very fast with his lectures which is at times challenging, but he is always willing to answer questions. Overall he is great and helpful!
This class is very fast paced and if you miss a single lecture you will be behind. Boyer is decent, he offers a lot of extra credit which really boosted my grade (and prevented me from failing the class).
Such a good professor. Show up to class, and do the homework and you will get a good grade. He moves fast in class but if you take notes and pay attention you will do well on tests and quizzes. He makes the class as easy as possible and will give extra credit and round grades. The more you show up to class, the more extra credit you will get.
Probably the best Math professor I've ever had. If you show up to class you'll be just fine. There is a quiz/test ever week. You can work with the class on quizzes, and it's open note. The final is pretty easy, and tests are relatively difficult. A lot of extra credit is offered, and it boosted my grade by 5%.
Overall I think he is a decent professor but hes not very good at teaching! U get the work but no explanation and sloppy work I do think he is a good guy but definitely hard to learn if u dont have an understanding of the topic
He is a good Professor. The problem is the length of the lectures isnt long enough for him to break everything down. You are expected to know fundamentals before taking this class. He gives lots of extra credit, the exams are short as well, dont get tripped up.
Quiz every week but can be taken with peers/notes. Notecard given for every test along with some formulas. People say he moves too fast but if you are decent in anyway at math he will be extremely easy. Most annoying thing was mandatory attendance cause he makes you submit a photo for it. Homework every week online textbook & lab worksheets.
Prof. Boyer speaks meaningfully yet respectfully. He reminds you of due dates, extra credit opportunities and allows a 3x5 notecard on each test. There's a Quiz every Friday which is open note and can be done with others. Lectures can be fast paced, so go to lab if needed. Genuine guy who cares to prep. his students for their future endeavors!
This guy is so goated, every quiz we took in that class was 1.) open note, and 2.) available to be taken with the help of classmates as well. Although most lectures he struggled to teach us within the 45 minutes, he let us use notes on the final so he's forgiven.
Boyer spoke on topics too fast for me sometimes and moved on to the next topic right away. He does, however, make it very clear what material you will need to know for the quizzes and tests. Doing the homework will help you for the quizzes and tests in this class. You have to purchase an online textbook and access.
If you want to be talked at instead of taught then this is the class for you. On top of speeding through lectures, we were given a quiz every Friday, sometimes about things we didn't go over during the week. Try to avoid this class if you can and if you can't I recommend getting a really good tutor first week.
The lectures were straightforward and easy to understand. Does go a little fast sometimes but posts all of the notes. Also lets you have a note card for all the tests and a whole page of paper for the final. Sometimes has a bad temper but other than that I would take this prof again.
Quizzes are open note. Test and finals you can have flashcards. Gives extra credit just for handing out test packets. Lectures are super easy to follow and the labs help give a better practice on new topics. Plus he posts all the notes online and you can take the quizzes online as well. Attendance isn't mandatory, but gives a point for showing up.
He knows what he's doing and gives a lot of extra credit. Show up to class (it's not mandatory) and you will do fine. You get a note card cheat sheet for every test and a whole sheet of paper for the final. Pay attention and do your work, and you will get out what you put in.
Manageable course if you stay engaged. Quizzes are open-note, and there's extra credit available. Lectures cover a lot quickly, so supplementary resources like unstuck ai can be helpful. The professor cares about student success.
Really good professor! Lecture isn't long enough for him to teach everything so, he dose speech through a lot but if you use the notes he puts on canvas you should be fine. He honestly gives you all the materials you need in order to be successful. He also gives you extra credit for showing up to class and during exams. He's honestly super sweet.
There is an opportunity for extra credit at least every week just for showing up to class. All quizzes are open note and you can work with the class. All tests you get a notecard for. For the review he tells you exactly what will be on the test. If you show up to his class you will do great. He is my favorite teacher. He is amazing.
I had Boyer this semester and I think he was a pretty good professor. Every week there are quizzes on fridays (online and in person options). If you come in person to take the quiz you get 1 extra point. Lectures you must attend, because he moves pretty quickly through topics, 2 Hw assignments per week. i suck at algebra so im happy i have a C+.
terrible class
For some reason Boyer thinks he makes this class hard, but it is actually the opposite. Attendance is 1 point per lecture, and every Friday is an extra credit point for showing up. Every exam has a possibility of getting above a 100%. He goes pretty fast, but is clear on what the students need to know. Great guy.
Kevin was an absolutely amazing teacher! As someone who went from not being in a math class for almost 2 years, to jumping into college algebra, Kevin made it incredibly easy to follow along and understand all the material. He is very good at making sure you know what you need to study and review, and posts all the work covered in class on canvas.
Overall good professor!
Boyer was great this semester aside from the few rage lectures. He does everything he can to prepare us for success by giving extra credit for attending lectures and quizzes (you can work with classmates). The coursework wasn't challenging for me.
This class, for it being a fairly beginner math class, was quite difficult for me. I took it once before and passed the second time, but if you actually go to every class and really study for every test you should be fine.
Kevin Boyer was a very fair professor who was very direct and clear with teaching the material. This is a relatively easy course if you just show up to the lectures. There are many opportunities for extra credit as long as you show up to class.
Just do the homework and lab work and you"ll be fine. He maps out the quiz and test question so you know what to actually study. He also gives extra credit from time to time.
nothing I hate more than math. He isn't exactly a saint but he does good enough. It literally just comes down to you not falling behind. Dear anyone taking this class, please, for the love of everything, DO NOT slack off in this class because it will hand you an envelope of pure depression if you do. Just 1 semester. Go to class and learn.
Professor Boyer's lectures are fast-paced, and he gets over his head sometimes. But other than that, he is a great guy and a great teacher. He lays out the semester perfectly, and tells exactly what's on the test and where. For Quizzes, you can work together, and attendance gives you Extra Credit. You will pass!
Professor Boyer was great; he provided the material in lectures needed to succeed in this class and made it very, very clear on what content to expect on tests and quizzes. However, I can see how someone who doesn't go to class frequently could easily struggle in this class. Just don't miss class.
Boyer is a good dude! He makes sure his students are prepared for the weekly assignments and quizzes. He's very understanding and reasonable. Just be prepared for him to speed through notes. Make sure to attend class since attendance gives you bonus points to the overall grade!
He is so nice and is very accommodating and understanding when you can't make it to class. He posts all notes and is very thorough with what will be on quizzes and tests. All quizzes are open note and tests are very straightforward. If you get the chance to take a class with him I would.
He bump my grade from a 79.1 to a B at the end of the semester.
Prof. Boyer is extremely nice and understanding. Honestly anyone can pass this course. There is a quiz every Friday you can take online or go in person to get EC, also with that there is book homework and a LWS due as well. The exam's are in person but you do get a 3X5 note card so easy to pass. Overall, he is great I highly suggest taking him!!
Was very difficult and I had to drop it because the exams were hard and it was difficult for me to study but he isnt a bad teacher just not a teacher that I ended up wanting to be with
Great professor! I hadn't taken a math class in years and he was a great reintroduction. Tons of extra credit opportunities if you show up to Friday classes for the quizzes, plus you get to work together with classmates. You get to use notecards for exams and all of these things together made this class a lot easier than I thought it would be.
