He understands what college life is like and is often willing to give a day or two extra on assignments. Burger was good at bringing in real-world examples from his work experience in addition to creating assignments and tests that were relevant and gave a sense of accomplishment upon completion. Highly recommended.

The first 2/3 of the class is quite easy (learning assembly language programing), but the last 1/3 of the class comes very fast and covers hard material (the inner workings of different types of CPUs and memories) too quickly in my opinion. I got a horrible grade because I missed some assignments (which he didn't remind us were due). Check syllabus

Burger was a very straightforward and clear teacher. I feel like I learned a lot in this class, but I can't help but wonder how much more we could have learned with less repition and more focused lectures. Anyways, this class was very easy and it's not particularly important to attend... Exam study guides all but tell you the questions.. etc.

Incidentally, Mr. Burger is a pretty good programming teacher. The lectures are a little repetitive but that is probably a good thing for people completely new to programming. He doesn't take attendance which is great if you already know a good bit about the class but just need it for your major or whatever. I strongly recommend him.

He is very dry and the lectures are really boring. The tests can be pretty tricky as well. However, he is extremely helpful if you go to his office hours, he has a great sense of humor, and his labs are really easy and are worth a lot of points, which easily offset poor exam grades. The final is basically a free A. Great guy, just a tad boring.

Not a very difficult class. Labs are free points. Pre-Labs can be somewhat difficult. Exams are worth a lot. but two hours of studying can easily get you an A for each exam. If you miss class, it can all be learned from the book, which is surprisingly clear and helpful. Lectures are very boring though, and I fell asleep even after 9 hours of sleep.

Burger is a decent professor, but his lectures can get confusing fast if you're not interested in Assembly and processors. At times he's hard to understand and makes a couple of mistakes, so his lectures get boring and hard to follow after a while. 20% extra credit given for each lab turned in 2 days earlier than deadline. Gives some online HW that requires online textbook. 2 midterms & 1 final, BUT you can skip the final if you did well enough on midterms (drops the lowest test grade). I did that and still got an A+. CSE230 with Kevin Burger was an easy class. He gives two options for your final grade: one with your tests making up the grade, and the other where homework is 40% and the tests are 60%. Pros: You are able to get help from your peers on the ed discussion page. Cons: You cannot see your grade until grades are due. Lectures are outdated(2014), dull and very lengthy. Little to no responses on discussion page from teacher and assistants. Assignments were not useful. Missed some office hours. Tests are reused, so you can't go over it.

Hard to imagine a worse professor, also we didn't learn anything because the few assignments were overly complicated so were mostly just filling out pseudocode. The only 'good' thing is grades are curved -- 2/3rd of the class failed the final yet somehow over half the class got an A for the course. None of us are prepared for future classes.

Burger shows that maybe not everyone is able to be a teacher, let alone a professor at a university. Burger doesn't teach any of the topics but leaves it to the TAs who are obviously worse at teaching. Assignments are dumped on you at the last second after he barely teaches the topic required to do the assignment. Take Calc 3 instead.

CSE 259 is definitely a cake walk compare to Calc 3. The cut of for an A is 87.5, and Prof Burger gives out A LOT of extra credits. He is very nice and understanding but he can also be very unorganized. Only take this class if you did good in MAT 243, I never went to class and still have a high A, while many people are struggling.

The good news is, any time he is disorganized, he won't take it out on students and will extend a deadline. The bad news is, he is disorganized all the time. Frequently missed class times, and extended every assignment's deadline like 3 times. Super easy class, but if you want to actually learn someting, take someone else.

He is a bad professor who is not worth taking. He is confusing and disorganised. He was been sick for a large number of the lectures this semester, he talks softly, cannot operate his microphone has no idea how to use any of the technology in his class. He doesn't have timely grading or a sense of how much work is appropriate to give in a week.

Everything you've read about him in these reviews is accurate: his lectures are as dry as the Sonoran Desert, deadlines constant change, and his instructions for homework, quizzes, and exams are unnecessarily complicated. However, his notes are solid gold for aspiring Java developers. To me, they're worth the headache of dealing with this class.

He is a shining example of the fact that not everybody should be a teacher. His lectures are uninteresting and slow, they don't cover any material he leaves that up to his TAs who mean well but are not fit to teach an entire course and and his class is performing so badly 30% of people failed his midterm. The only reason to take him is he curves.

worst ASU Professor, he will not grade your course even after due date is passed, we waited for very long and he still went to the abyss of silence, he is so bad that I regret ever going to class, I should have slept in my bed all day, because he can't even copy paste exams and often times copied the solution in the exam.

The class itself is a pretty easy A, not a lot of homework or quizzes/tests. However, the deadlines kept getting pushed back and half of the class was mostly confused. The lectures came straight from the book so it was also confusing and a bit boring. The TAs were very helpful and nice- recitation was probably the only time I learned.

Discrete math is great preparation for this course! Burger does little to no teaching and most of the class showed up for the surprise-pop extra credit he would give out - recitation is where most of the studying is done. Take Calc. III if you truly want to progress in CS. As most have stated, Burger frequently pushes back due dates - not a fan.

Can explain concepts but the most confusing part is turning in assignments/programs(its another science). Assignments are done in half week intervals. Asks you to go back weeks and look for things in cluttered modules. No feedback on HW just says wrong. Curriculum is very old.

Professor Burger is all-in-all a great professor. You will probably hear many people complain about him, but ignore them. He always has lectures to supplement Zybooks, which is a decent learning space. His lectures may be dry, but they have great information! He also will extend deadlines if he notices the class is struggling. Good overall!

The class uses an online interactive Zybook. I am completely new to programming, and this class made it so easy. Professor Burger gives a TON of extra credit, extensions, and flexible due dates and is super caring. He lets you use notes on the midterm and final! It is a lot of material that is to be expected from online courses.

Burger is a really nice person, but not a good professor. We didn't write a line of assembly until the middle of the semester, and only covered 2 chapters so far. His lectures very often went into unrelated tangents, and the class was also incredibly disorganized. If you came here to learn assembly, I wouldn't really recommend this class.

Kevin Burger is a good guy for sure. But unfortunately I can't say the same about his lectures. One reason to go with him for CSE 230 is for his easy grades and assignments (only a month left before the sem ends and we got no assignments!). CSE 230 is a really conceptual class, so if knowledge matters to you, then nah. If easy A... hell yeah

Not sure about this one. Lectures are pretty dull and he reads pretty closely to the notes he posts. Please read them. 4 quizzes, 4 EC quizzes, ONE assignment of 8 questions that accounts for the midterm, final, and assignments category of the class. That's my main issue with this course, but professor is pretty chill.

Burger is incredibly knowledgeable but his lectures are very slowly paced so he does not get to a lot of information. We were given an assignment that took upwards of 6 hours during finals week and was worth our entire grade. He was sick most of the year and was kind but beware of last minute assignments and him not responding outside of class.

You do and learn absolutely nothing for the entire semester, his lectures (half of which got cancelled) are both difficult to stay awake to and mostly off-topic. 1 hw assignment at the end of the sem decided 80% of the grade, which were 8 questions on concepts you had to teach yourself. Besides that, class is a breeze you just won't learn a thing.

Burger is a knowledgeable professor, but he was very absent this semester and we did not learn as much as we should have. Final paper determined our entire grade and I would've been okay with it if we were just given more time to work on it (ie not during finals week). Unnecessarily stressful for a subject that could've been fun and engaging.
